Use Safari extensions on your Mac

Safari extensions enhance and customize the browsing experience on your Mac. Here's how to install them, uninstall them, or share them across devices.

Safari extensions add functionality to Safari, so you can explore the web the way you want. Extensions can show helpful information about a webpage, display news headlines, help you use your favorite services, change the appearance of webpages, and much more. Extensions are a great way to personalize your browsing experience.

Install extensions

Turn on extensions, turn off extensions, uninstall extensions, share extensions across devices.

Use the App Store to conveniently download and install Safari extensions. All extensions in the App Store are reviewed, signed, and hosted by Apple for your security, and they're automatically kept up to date.

Start by installing the latest macOS updates to make sure that Safari is up to date. You need Safari 12 or later to get Safari extensions from the App Store.

Open Safari and choose Safari > Safari Extensions from the menu bar.

The App Store opens to the Safari Extensions page. To download and install an extension, click Get or click the price. You might be asked to sign in with your Apple ID.

Click Install.

After the extension is installed, click Open and follow the onscreen instructions provided by the extension.

After installing an extension, follow these steps to turn it on.

Choose Safari > Settings (or Preferences).

Click Extensions.

Select the checkbox next to the extension's name. Learn what to do if you can't turn on extensions .

If you're browsing privately, or using a profile or web app

When browsing in a private window in macOS Sonoma or later, all extensions that require website access are turned off by default. To use an extension when browsing privately:

Choose Safari > Settings.

Select the extension in the sidebar, then select “Allow in Private Browsing” on the right.

Whether or not you're browsing privately, you can also restrict the extension's access to certain websites. Click the Edit Websites button to view the extension in Websites settings. From there you can allow access, deny access, or require that websites ask you for access.

When using Safari profiles , extensions for the default profile are managed in the main Extensions tab of Safari settings. Extensions for other profiles are managed in the Profiles tab, which has its own Extensions tab for each profile. By default, extensions are turned off for each new profile.

Share button

Choose Safari > Settings (or Preferences), then click Extensions.

To turn off an extension, deselect its checkbox.

If you can't determine what an extension does, or you don't expect to use it again, you should uninstall it.

To uninstall an extension, select the extension and click the Uninstall button.

Starting with macOS Ventura, iOS 16, and iPadOS 16, you can share extensions across your Mac, iPhone, and iPad:

On your Mac, open Safari and choose Safari > Settings, then click Extensions. Select “Share across devices” at the bottom of the window.

On your iPhone or iPad, go to Settings > Safari > Extensions, then turn on Share Across Devices.

No alt supplied for Image

To uninstall an extension from all devices, you must uninstall it on each device.

Safari no longer supports most web plug-ins. To load webpages more quickly, save energy, and strengthen security, Safari is optimized for content that uses the HTML5 web standard, which doesn't require a plug-in. To enhance and customize your browsing experience, use Safari extensions instead of web plug-ins.

One of the handiest types of software in anyone’s quiver is the browser extension: those cool little applets that let your browser do what you want it to do. And one of the nicest things about iOS 15 and iPadOS 15 is that you can now add extensions to the Safari browser. Even though this is a new feature that launched with the latest iOS version, there are already a number of useful extensions available for you to add.

What follows is a rundown on how to add extensions to your Safari app — while we’ve illustrated the process using an iPhone, you can follow the same basic directions with an iPad. We’ve also included a sampling of some extensions you can try.

How to add extensions

  • Tap on the Settings app.
  • Scroll down to and select Safari > Extensions.
  • Any extensions that you’ve already installed will be listed here. Tap on “More Extensions” if you’d like to see what’s available in the App Store. (You can also simply go to the App Store and search on “Safari Extensions.”)

In your settings, go to Safari > Extensions to see your current extensions and get new ones.

  • Once you’ve installed your first extension, you’ll see a little “puzzle piece” icon on the left side of Safari’s address bar. Tap that, and the menu that pops up will include your current extensions plus a “Manage Extensions” selection, which lets you toggle your extensions on and off.

It’s simple to install a new extension from the App Store.

Some extensions to try

This is a small sampling of some of the extensions that you can now access via the App Store. While there are not many extensions yet available (compared to the number of extensions for, say, Chrome), it’s a pretty safe bet that there will be lots more to come over the next few months.

Amplosion ($2.99)

AMP, which is short for “Accelerated Mobile Pages,” is a web format created by Google to optimize search results for mobile browsers. However, if you’d rather not have Google tweaking the webpages you upload, you can use Amplosion to redirect the AMP links that show up in search results into normal mobile links.

Noir ($2.99)

When you’re browsing at night and you’ve set your iPhone or iPad to dark mode, you will often hit a website that is bright enough to make your eyes water. Noir allows you to set a dark mode for all the websites you visit.

1Password (subscription needed)

1Password is a well-known and respected password manager . If you’re a 1Password user, there’s no question that you’re going to want to add this one to your mobile Safari app.

Super Agent for Safari (free)

This handy extension automatically fills out a website’s cookie consent forms based on your preferences, which can save you a lot of time and irritation.

Web Inspector (free)

Something for developers: an app that lets you inspect the HTML coding of a website, modify it, debug it, and perform other essential tasks.

How to use Safari Extensions in 2022 — and five of our favorites

Darryl Boxberger's Avatar

Safari Extensions are small utilities added on top of the Safari browser on your Apple device. Through these utilities, they dynamically change the browsing experience. Safari Extensions offer tools to change up your browsing experience just the way you want.

Here are five of our favorites.

Dark Reader

Compatible with: iPhone, iPad , and Mac

Price: $4.99

safari facebook extension

Many devices have adopted a Dark Mode for a more comfortable viewing experience at night. However, many websites still lagged behind, and continue to only offer light-colored backgrounds. Dark Reader is a powerful way to make these websites just as comfortable to look at at night.

Turn the extension on, and Dark Reader automatically turns every site into a white-on-black version.

It intelligently works around photos and links, and simple controls make it easy to turn off when need be if a site is better served in its regular appearance.

Yet, its more granular options give users a lot of control — from the exact color of the background to precise sliders to adjust brightness and contrast.

Among dark mode extensions available as extensions, Dark Reader stands out as the perfect balance of ease-of-use and detailed control. It works across all Apple devices that support Safari Extensions.

Compatible with: iPhone/iPad and Mac

The popular coupon-finding extension is available for the iPhone, iPad, and Mac.

When the user goes online shopping on their device, Honey automatically fills the coupon field with valid codes to save money at checkout.

Its lightweight package means it will not affect browsing when the user is not shopping, yet it's efficient when a code comes in handy. It'll automatically appear when a code is found when on iPhone.

Honey is famous for its comprehensive database of coupon codes and is the most extensive extension of its kind on the Internet.

OverPicture

Compatible with: Mac

Price: $2.99

safari facebook extension

While Picture-in-Picture is slowly rolling out for certain YouTube users on iPhone and iPad , it has yet to arrive on the Mac.

OverPicture implements a simple interface on top of YouTube in Safari to allow users to take YouTube videos in Picture-in-Picture. In addition, users can watch a smaller version of the video as it floats over their work by clicking an integrated toggle in the video player.

The Apple-like interface means that it is instantly familiar to those who have already sued the feature on iPhone and iPad.

It is the simplest way to get the functionality for the Mac, and it fits in with the design of the software.

Compatible with: iPhone, iPad, Mac

Price: Free to install, requires subscription for full functionality

The password utility 1Password helps users organize passwords and strengthen their security by generating hard-to-crack passwords.

The extension will automatically fill these passwords in for the user, freeing the user from memorizing tricky passwords themselves.

Featured in numerous "best password manager lists," the utility is simple to invoke when needed and does not interrupt when the user is browsing.

Compatible with: iPhone/iPad, Mac

Price: Free for basic functionality, paid tiers for more features

The recipient of many software design awards, Grammarly is an extension that aims to improve users' writing.

The extension automatically suggests better word choices, corrects spelling and gives fixes to sentences in a compact window to the side.

It also intelligently adapts to different writing scenarios. So whether it's a formal business email or a casual text chat between friends, Grammarly promises to optimize the writing for the user in a simple, easy-to-use extension.

However, before you can use Safari Extensions, you'll need to turn them on. The steps are a little different for iPhone, iPad, and Mac.

How to turn on Safari Extensions on iPhone and iPad

  • Launch Settings on your device.
  • Tap Safari .
  • Under General, tap Extensions .
  • Select the extension you want enabled and turn it on.

Return to Safari on your iPhone or iPad, and tap the puzzle icon in your address bar. You can see the Safari Extension has been enabled.

The 10 Best Extensions to Transform Your Facebook Experience

From finding out who unfriended you to keeping to removing those annoying boxes in the sidebar, here are the 15 best extensions for a better Facebook.

If you access Facebook from a computer rather than your mobile device, then it's easy to make the desktop Facebook experience better using extensions.

Browsers like Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox offer many extensions that can change how you interact with Facebook, whether it's by adding features or removing unwanted elements.

Keep reading to learn about the best Facebook extensions that you can install today...

1. Social Fixer

Available on: Chrome, User Script

Of all the Facebook extensions, Social Fixer is the most popular and most comprehensive solution. It offers an exhaustive list of features that help make Facebook a more enjoyable experience.

Some of the extension's top tools include ways to turn off sponsored posts or force your news feed to show the newest posts first. It also has a news feed filter and a friend manager that will let you know when someone unfriends you.

You can even use Social Fixer to roll back the 2020 Facebook redesign so that the site displays the old layout instead.

Download: Social Fixer (Free)

2. F.B. Purity

Available on: Firefox, Chrome, Edge, Safari, Opera

Like Social Fixer, F.B. Purity is an all-in-one tool that can overhaul many aspects of the native Facebook home page when viewed in a browser.

Some of the best features include hiding ads, hiding related posts, hiding upcoming events, and hiding recommended games. You can also revert to the old Facebook layout and turn off auto-playing videos.

3. Facebook Demetricator

Available on: Firefox, Chrome, Safari, Edge, Opera

Research suggests that Facebook is making us sad, and a part of the reason is that we tend to quantify our self-worth with the number of likes or shares our posts get.

Facebook Demetricator is a Facebook add-on that hides these numbers from your Facebook home page. For example, instead of seeing a fixed number, such as "15 people like this," you'll just see a "People like this" message.

4. Privacy Badger

Available on: Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Opera

It's no secret that Facebook stores a massive amount of data about its users (and, perhaps more worryingly, its non-users). In fact, there are lots of ways Facebook invades your privacy , and many people are becoming increasingly uncomfortable with the level of intrusion.

If you want a way to stop Facebook from doing all that tracking, check out Privacy Badger. It's an official extension from the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) that will prevent third-party advertisers from collecting information as you browse the web—Facebook included.

Download: Privacy Badger (Free)

5. Seen Blocker for Facebook

Available on: Firefox

We're all familiar with the concept—when you read a message that someone has sent you on Facebook, the sender will know you have opened and read it thanks to a notification icon in their own chat window.

To prevent that from happening, check out Seen Blocker. It will let you read Facebook messages without activating the "message read" notification for the other person.

Sadly, this Facebook extension is only available on Firefox.

Download: Seen Blocker for Facebook (Free)

6. Photo Zoom for Facebook

Available on: Chrome, Firefox, Safari

Whenever you scroll through a Facebook feed, you'll be acutely aware that all the photos are shrunk down on-screen. This is not unique to Facebook; all social networks deploy the approach, partly to help save data and partly because of the practicalities of using a computer screen.

However, if you want to see a photo in its full-size glory on Facebook, you need to physically click on it. If you enjoy studying a lot of friends' pictures, that quickly becomes tedious.

Photo Zoom for Facebook removes the need to click. Once you have installed the extension, merely hovering over a photo on your news feed will show its full size.

7. Friends Feed

Available on: Chrome, Safari

If you're old enough to remember the first few years of Facebook, you will know that the news feed used to be a much more fun place to hang out. Unfortunately, that's no longer the case.

You feed gets clogged up with posts that you have no interest in—either because other friends liked it or because a company has paid to get its content in front of your eyes.

The Friends Feed extension gets rid of these posts. The only updates you'll see will either originate from your friends or from pages and people you actively follow.

Download: Friends Feed (Free)

8. Friend Convert

Available on: Chrome

If you are the manager of a large Facebook group, you might want to check out the Friend Convert Facebook Chrome extension. It lets you add friends to a group en mass, but also allows you to bulk-remove people from a group.

This is especially useful if the group operates on the premise of a membership, wherein the list of people with an active membership is continuously in a state of flux.

Download: Friend Convert (Free)

9. Multiple Tools for Facebook

Managing your Facebook profile, page, or group can be a labor-intensive task. Indeed, most businesses now have to employ an entire social media team just to keep on top of the never-ending slew of messages and contact requests.

Multiple Tools is a Facebook extension that specializes in automation. It has a dashboard that will display all your analytics, as well as ways to automate privacy settings for posts, message downloading, and incoming and outgoing friend and group requests.

You can also use the extension to block seen messages, block the message delivery mark, and even find out which groups your friends have joined.

NB: Remember, it is possible to  use Messenger without Facebook if you don't want a full account.

Download: Multiple Tools for Facebook (Free)

10. Image Cleaner

Facebook doesn't really want you to delete your photos. Consequently, there is no way to delete your old images in bulk.

Sure, you can delete pictures on an individual basis, and that's fine for getting rid of an embarrassing snap from a night out. However, if you want to go on a photo purge, Facebook makes it near-impossible without entirely deleting your account.

Image Cleaner solves the problem. You can delete photos, albums, and videos with a single click (no confirmation screen). It also adds a checkbox to media items so you can select and delete multiple files at the same time.

Download: Image Cleaner (Free)

Should Facebook Natively Include These Features?

It's somewhat sad that we have to turn to third-party Facebook extensions to access some of this functionality. If anything, their absence is an indictment of Facebook's true guiding principles. As has been the case for several years, it is a case of profit over user experience.

Hopefully, Facebook changes its stance and makes the site more user-friendly, but we don't have high hopes. For now, these extensions will have to suffice.

How-To Geek

7 iphone and ipad safari extensions worth installing.

Safari Extensions arrived in iOS 15, so we made a list of our favorites.

Quick Links

Managing extensions for safari on iphone and ipad, dark mode everywhere: turn off the lights or nitefall, manage your tab problem: startpage.ai, dismiss cookie permissions pop-ups: super agent, liberate your videos: pipifier, manage your passwords: 1password, disable amp and much more: hyperweb, a welcome enhancement for safari.

With the arrival of iOS 15, Safari for iPhone and iPad gained proper extensions. Apple has taken the same curated App Store approach as it did with Safari for Mac, vastly improving Safari's web browsing capabilities.

Here are some of the highlights, and a brief overview of how extensions work on iOS and iPadOS.

Extensions for the Safari browser on iPhone and iPad are managed using the App Store. You can search for new extensions as you would any other app, and updates are managed by the App Store and can be applied automatically too.

You'll even find a dedicated Safari Extensions category in the App Store app by tapping the Apps tab then scrolling down to "Top Categories" and tapping See All > Safari Extensions.

When you have enabled one or more extensions you will see a small icon in the address bar that looks like a puzzle piece. Tapping on this will show active extensions and a "Manage Extensions" option where you can enable and disable extensions quickly.

Due to Apple's careful approach to privacy in iOS , expect to be asked to grant permission to certain websites or services. Some apps require "Access" to every website they are designed to work with, while others may ask to filter your traffic if they are designed to block certain types of content.

You can go to Settings > Safari > Extensions to see a list of currently installed extensions, what each has access to, and any privacy disclosures. You can also give an extension full access to all websites here, which gets rid of the frequent permissions pop-ups.

You should make sure you fully understand the risks of allowing an app developer to access this information. A similar comparison can be made to third party keyboards , which may require "Full Access" and thus be able to store or transmit anything that is typed.

Many websites now support dark themes either with a toggle or by detecting your device's current settings. Many still don't, and that's a problem when you're trying to browse at night. Turn Off the Lights is one such free extension that attempts to remedy this.

On Safari, the app works by adding a semi-transparent dark overlay. This has the effect of dimming page content without inverting colors, so things appear much dimmer. The benefit of this approach is that it leaves page styles alone which means you're less likely to run into problems with page styles or readability.

It's not foolproof and some websites resist the extension, while the overlay can be a little temperamental at times. It also lacks the customization that you'll find on the desktop version.

Nitefall is a good alternative if Turn Off the Lights falls short. It's also free but can only be used on a limited number (25) of websites. It has three dark themes, support for maps, and site-specific settings but if you want to use it on more websites you'll need to upgrade for a one-off fee of $3.99.

Related: How to Enable Dark Mode on your iPhone and iPad

Do you have a nasty tab habit? Culling hundreds of tabs using Safari's tiled view is tedious even on the latest devices. It's not possible to read the full website name or URL, and many older tab previews will be purged. Startpage.ai makes this process much easier.

Once you've set new tabs to open with Startpage.ai you'll see a neat list of all current tabs, with the most recently used at the top. Each tab title is listed with its URL, and you can even filter tabs using the search bar at the top. You can then close each tab with a tap of the red "Close" button.

Related: How to Use Tab Groups in Safari on iPhone and iPad

There's even a dark mode toggle at the top of the screen for managing your tab addiction after dark. An essential extension for anyone who never closes tabs, and something Apple should probably copy to make managing tabs in future versions of Safari less of a mess.

Cookie warnings are one of the most annoying things on the modern internet. It's not necessarily a bad thing that websites now have to ask you before tracking you or gathering information, but cookie warnings introduce additional steps to reading almost any article on the web.

Super Agent is one extension that can help. Install the extension then set your cookie preferences in the app and let Super Agent take care of the rest. The extension will action your preferences on a large number of websites (though not all websites are supported).

Cookies are split into three sections: advertising, functional, and performance. Any that don't fit these categories are automatically blocked. There's no subscription, and the accompanying app makes it easy to manage your preferences.

Related: What Is a Browser Cookie?

Previously a plug-in for the desktop version of Safari, PiPifier does one thing and it does it well: restoring picture-in-picture functionality to videos across the web. Apple added this handy feature to Safari in iOS 14, but it hasn't always worked everywhere. The feature allows you to watch a video in a frame while using other apps, and it has a transformative effect on iPhone and iPad multitasking.

Notably, YouTube blocks picture-in-picture mode on Safari for iPhone and iPad in a bid to get you to use the YouTube app. The YouTube app currently sells this feature back to you as part of a YouTube Red subscription. PiPifier restores picture-in-picture mode to the web version of YouTube, allowing you to use the full functionality of Safari with YouTube once more.

Related: How to Use Picture-in-Picture on iPhone

If you use 1Password then the app's accompanying Safari extension provides a "desktop-class" experience. Of course, the extension isn't going to be of much use to you if you use another service like LastPass or Apple's iCloud Keychain (which already integrates nicely with Safari ).

You can use the extension to autofill details like passwords , credit card details , two-factor authentication codes , and more. You can also quickly access any favorite credentials or notes, and add new items to your 1Password account.

If you want one extension that includes most of the separate enhancements listed above, Hyperweb is what you're looking for. It's the Swiss army knife of mobile Safari extensions, providing features like dark mode (by inverting colors), cookie pop-up management, picture-in-picture plus content blocking, and search engine personalization too.

Related: What Is Google AMP, and Why Is It In My Search Results?

Hyperweb also allows you to apply custom styles and run custom user scripts from websites like Stylish and Greasy Fork which can change the look and feel of some of your favorite websites. It also blocks Google's AMP (Accelerated Mobile Project) pages when visiting from a search engine, and it's currently the only free extension to do so.

If you use third-party apps for services like Twitter, Reddit, or YouTube you can force content to open in apps like Tweetbot, Apollo, or Syndromi. You can also direct Apple Maps to Google Maps, open streams in apps like VLC, or send PDFs to PDF Expert.

Hyperweb's most powerful feature allows you to create your own rules known as local enhancements. You can set "If" and "Then" parameters that target specific URLs, domains, pages, and search engines that go well beyond the included enhancements. You can only create one of these rules in the free version, or you can pay $2.99/month to unlock the extension's functionality.

Safari Extensions were added to iOS and iPadOS 15, Apple's smartphone and tablet operating systems. Check out what else is new in the update , and take full advantage of the great new iOS 15 privacy features .

iOS 15: How to Download and Install Safari Web Extensions

In iOS 15, Safari now supports third-party web extensions, which can be downloaded and installed through the App Store . Extensions can change how Apple's Safari browser works in useful ways, or even add extra functionality to it.

App Store

In addition, developers can now create universal extensions that will work on Mac, iPhone , and iPad , thanks to WebExtension APIs that employ a cross-platform technology and can also support other browsers, like Chrome, Firefox, and Edge.

The following steps show you how to get extensions to enhance your browsing experience in Safari on iOS 15.

  • Launch the Settings app on your ‌iPhone‌ or ‌iPad‌.
  • Scroll down and tap Safari .
  • Under "General," tap Extensions .
  • Tap More Extensions .

settings

This last step will take you to a section of the ‌App Store‌ dedicated to Safari extensions, which you can browse and optionally download and install. Note that some extensions are free, whereas others include features that require in-app purchases to unlock them.

Once you install an extension, you'll see it listed in the "Extensions" screen in Settings, where you'll be able to control any extension-related options.

The 11 best Safari extensions for improving your productivity

  • Safari extensions add a wide range of new features and capabilities to the browser.
  • You can find Safari extensions in the Apple App Store.
  • Here are 11 of the best extensions for Safari that can improve the way the browser works and enhance your productivity.

While there aren't nearly as many extensions for Safari as there are for other browsers like Chrome and Firefox , you can still add a variety of features and capabilities to your browser through the App Store's extension library. To get there, start Safari, click the Safari menu and choose Safari Extensions… To help you narrow down your choices, here are the best Safari extensions focused on productivity.

Awesome Screenshot

Awesome Screenshot can take screenshots with a click of the extension icon. You can capture after a countdown, just a part of the screen, or — and this is really the best reason to install it — an entire webpage, including the parts that extend well past the bottom of the screen.

Day One is an elegant take on journaling. The app lets you record your daily thoughts, respond to prompts, add photos and graphics as well as and work in free-form text or add structure and formatting. The Day One extension lets you insert the current webpage into the journal as well.

You might think that this kind of privacy should be built into every browser, but DuckDuckGo adds it to Safari. This extension automatically blocks third-party trackers on most websites and also gives you a dashboard to see each site's privacy grade on an A to F scale.

Evernote Web Clipper

Evernote Web Clipper lets you save any webpage to your Evernote account for future reference.

Evernote, of course, is an online note-taking tool that lets you collect images, text, and webpages, and you can use this extension to grab any webpage you're looking at with a single click.

It should go without saying that you should be using a password manager to keep the hundreds of logins you need to contend with strong, unique, and secure. 1Password puts all your save passwords a click away, making logging into any website a fast (but safe) affair.

Blue Canoe Dictionary

Not sure exactly how to pronounce "ensconced?" Wonder no longer because Blue Canoe Dictionary opens a dictionary entry for any word you select on a webpage and displays the definition. Click Listen to hear it read aloud, along with some examples of exactly how to sound out the vowel — ideal if English isn't your first language.

Using a password manager is great, but these days you should also have two-step verification turned on for all websites that support it. Step Two is a great authentication app that automatically backs up to iCloud, preserving those codes even as you change phones or computers. The Step Two extension helps you log into websites fast without manually entering those six-digit codes.

Want to watch a YouTube video while you work? Piper lets you multitask by enabling many popular video platforms to run in picture-in-picture mode. The extension adds a button to many video players that pops the video out onto the desktop, so you can watch the video while you get work done with other apps at the same time. It works with apps like YouTube, Netflix, Twitch, Prime Video, and more.

Save to Pocket

Save to Pocket is a convenient tool for saving websites to a library you can read later on. And while it's owned by Mozilla and is built into Firefox, you can use Save to Pocket in Safari in exactly the same way. Once you click the Save to Pocket extension icon, the current webpage is synced to the cloud and you can read it in any browser on any computer or in an app on your mobile device.

Everyone needs some help with spelling and grammar. Grammarly delivers free spelling and grammar suggestions in much the same way as the spell checker in Microsoft Word — just click the words with the underline to see suggestions. It works pretty much everywhere.

Replace Safari's new tab page with Momentum to get a scenic, highly customizable start page. Front and center, it greets you by name with the time and whatever tasks you've set as your daily priority. You can also add quick links to commonly used websites and widgets like countdown timers and productivity metrics (though some features require upgrading to the premium version). Use the Pomodoro Technique ? You can even kick off timers to guide your productivity.

9 Best Safari Extensions of 2024

Add more functionality to Safari

safari facebook extension

Like Chrome , Safari isn't just a stagnant web browser, it also has additional functionality via its Safari Extension plugins which take seconds to install . A form of add-on, Safari extensions now come bundled with relevant Mac apps, as well as via the App Store.

Whether you're looking for productivity hacks, easy ways of saving money on your shopping, or ways to make your browsing experience more pleasant, there's a Safari extension for you.

Looking for great Chrome extensions? There are plenty out there.

Grammar Checker: Grammarly

Simple and clear writing suggestions.

You need a subscription to get the most from it.

Grammarly is there for those times when you're not quite sure if your spelling or grammar is up to scratch. It highlights issues via a red line underneath a word and allows you to easily correct them, whether you happen to be typing a Facebook status or a blog post. It's a useful service that's like a little nudge in the right direction when trying to improve your writing ability.

Cinema Style Lighting Effect: Turn Off the Lights

Neat atmospheric lighting effect.

Need to load the separate app to change settings.

One of the most effective things at the cinema is how the lights go down and you can focus solely on the cinema screen. Turn Off the Lights offers that same kind of effect on your laptop or desktop.

When on YouTube or another video based site, click the lightbulb icon on Safari, and the lights around the video playing are immediately dimmed. You can focus on the screen itself rather than everything going on around it. To get the full effect, you need to tweak some settings, but it's a neat way of adding some atmosphere when watching a video.

Price Comparer: PriceBlink

Easy to compare prices.

Only works in the U.S. and U.K.

PriceBlink keeps an eye on prices so you don't have to. Go to somewhere like Amazon or eBay, and the moment you load an item, PriceBlink pops up with its price elsewhere. You can instantly see if Amazon really is offering the best price or if there's somewhere cheaper you could switch to. If a better alternative is listed, click the site, and PriceBlink loads the alternate option in a separate tab. This simple extension could save you a lot of money over time.

Password Management: LastPass

Extra layer of protection for passwords.

Little convoluted to setup.

Safari has built-in password management, but LastPass is much better at the job. It works across multiple devices and also gives you somewhere to store files and notes securely.

A lot of the time, you'll need to delve into the separate app to use it fully, but the Safari extension gives you the ability to generate secure passwords, quickly fill in forms, or add notes, all directly from your browser. It's a real game changer for security and privacy concerns.

Easy Coupon Codes: Honey

Easy to browse.

Most coupons are for the U.S. only.

Online, you can find thousands of coupon codes and offers, but it's likely that you forget to look them up until you've already ordered something. At the touch of a button, you can open Honey to the side of Safari, and check out the coupons available to you.

The extension offers up plenty of popular retailers such as Macy's, Bloomingdale's, eBay, and Sears. Just tap on the name of the retailer, and you can look up coupons, as well as details on how long ago they worked correctly. Honey also has a reward scheme for extra bonuses.

Link Saving: Pocket

Great for storing links for later reference.

You need to sign up first.

How often do you find yourself looking at a great long-form article and realizing you don't have the time to read it right now? With Pocket, you just need to click the "Save to Pocket" button, and the link saves to your account so you can easily consult it later on. It works across multiple devices and you can tag and label articles so that everything is neatly organized.

Ad blocker: Adblock Plus

Easy to set up.

Settings can be a little tricky.

No one likes obtrusive ads when trying to read an interesting article online. Adblock Plus makes it simple to block ads and tracking ads that bug you, while "safelisting" websites that you want to see all the ads for. Adblock Plus takes a responsible approach to ads with an option allowing for "acceptable ads," appreciating that website owners still need to generate revenue, while saving you the hassle of the worst kind of adverts.

Picture in Picture: PiPer

Supports many different video sites.

Liable to dent your productivity.

Being able to multitask is always a valuable skill. While you can switch between windows and tabs, it hasn't been possible to have YouTube or Netflix running alongside what you're working on in Safari.

PiPer changes all that. Via its extension, you can easily place a video in the corner of your screen, allowing you to continue working while the video plays to the side. It's a great tool for juggling multiple things together.

Translation: Translate

Translates from dozens of languages.

You need to poke around in settings to gain full benefits.

One of the best things about Chrome is its ability to translate websites for you. Translate brings that functionality to Safari. Simply go to a website, tap the translate button, and Translate converts everything to English via Google Translate or Bing Translate. It takes a moment or two but you can see it being converted before your eyes which is neat. Translations are reasonably accurate too.

Here are the best new Safari extensions to download for iOS 15 and iPadOS 15 (Updated)

Avatar for Parker Ortolani

One of the flagship new features in iOS 15 and iPadOS 15 is the redesigned Safari web browser. While the highlight of the new Safari is its user interface, it also gains compatibility with more powerful, Mac-like browser extensions. Now that iOS 15 is available to download, there are plenty of extensions hitting the App Store, and we’ve put together a list of some to try out.

Users of 1Password will love the new Safari extension in the latest update. The 1Password extension gives you the ability to see any password right in Safari and fill in password fields with saved ones. The extension can automatically fill in two-factor authentication codes as well. If you’re using an iPad, you will get the entire desktop 1Password experience. The extension will appear in the toolbar for you to access at any time.

The developer behind Apollo for Reddit, Christian Selig, has created a new Safari extension called Amplosion. Amplosion redirects you to the original webpage when you open an AMP link in Safari. The app also lets you keep track of how many times you’ve visited an AMP link and how many times you’ve used Amplosion to avoid one. Amplosion is priced at just $1.99 and if you hate AMP as much as I do it’s well worth it.

Christian has also created an extension that adds an HTML web inspector to Safari. The app is priced at $0.99 and is well worth it – since Apple still hasn’t added its own inspector.

CardPointers

The new CardPointers Safari extension knows what deals you may be able to take advantage of on different shopping websites. CardPointers says that it’s compatible with thousands of websites. While shopping in Safari with the extension enabled, you’ll get a notice telling you which card to use for the best deal as well as any special offers.

Cheep is an app that helps you find deals on Flights. With its latest update, it adds a Safari extension for use with Google Flights. The extension helps determine the cost per mile, distance in miles, and recommends whether or not you should book the flight. Cheep is free.

Web Inspector

This app is a simple web inspector that appears to be designed to look familiar to those who frequently use one in Chrome on the Mac. This extension lets you inspect webpages and edit their elements, enter JavaScript commands, view network requests, and more. It’s also entirely free.

I just released Web Inspector for iOS and iPadOS. It's a Safari extension for web developers to edit web pages on the fly, debug JavaScript, and more. It's free with no in-app purchases: https://t.co/u5mBSkMKnV pic.twitter.com/U1PdXv9VjK — Zhenyi Tan (@zhenyitan) September 20, 2021

HyperWeb is a new extension that adds the ability to customize just about anything you want to in Safari while browsing the web. The app lets you create blockers, personalize search, and customize the design of webpages. The app can also recommend enhancements to enable to make the extension more powerful.

Language Translator by Mate

Safari already has some translation features built-in but a new app from Gikken called Language Translator can help you take things to the next level. The app’s new Safari extension can automatically translate sites in 40 languages without any work required by the user. You can also select text and get a pop-up window if you want to translate it to another language. The app is pricey though at $29.99 but if you frequently need to translate different sites in a multitude of languages it might be worth the buy.

Vidimote is a new Safari extension that allows you to control video playback from the toolbar. The extension lets you change the speed of videos, jump ahead, switch between PiP and fullscreen, and more. Vidimote is $4.99 and available now.

StopTheMadness

StopTheMadness is a Safari extension that helps you take control of websites you frequently visit. The extensions lets you enable native iOS features like contextual menus, text editing, drag and drop, and autofill. The extension also improves privacy on the web by stopping clickjacking for different services among other things. StopTheMadness is priced at $7.99 on the App Store.

3. TranslateMe for Safari – Translate Web Pages on the Fly

The built-in Safari Translation is one of the highlights of macOS Big Sur along with the iOS-style control center , iMessage effects , and the smart battery settings that allow you to keep track of the battery consumption. While I have found the built-in translation quite efficient, it is nowhere near as versatile as that of Google Translation. That aside, it is currently available only in a few countries and supports just a handful of languages.

Everything considering, it’s among the top Safari extensions for blocking trackers.

  • Use the Safari extensions on your other Apple devices, as long as you’ve signed in with the same Apple ID on your other devices. In addition, you must have Safari turned on in iCloud, enabled two-factor authentication, and selected Share across devices .
  • Change an extension’s settings.
  • Remove an extension by selecting it, then clicking Uninstall . You may also delete the app that contains the extension.

Relatedly, iPhone or iPad users can check out our separate guide on how to manage Safari extensions on those devices.

How to Remove Unwanted Extensions

In case you’re asking yourself, “How do I remove unwanted extensions in Safari?” This only takes a few simple steps.

  • In the Safari app on your Mac, Click Settings .

  • If you don’t want to remove the app, you can just disable its extension.
  • If you want to remove the app as well, simply click the Show in Finder button.

  • Click Move to Trash .

How to Edit Safari Extensions

Another question that you might ask yourself is, “How do I edit Safari extensions?” For that matter, can you edit Safari extensions? The answer to the second question is yes. Unfortunately, however, editing Safari extensions requires you you to be knowledgeable about the Safari Extension builder.

You will also need to execute a Terminal command that extracts all the files contained in the extensions you’ve downloaded. Then, you have to edit it with the Safari Extension Builder. This is something I hope a general user won’t need to do, but if you like to tinker and customize the add-ons for your browser … more power to you.

Final Words: Remove Unused and Unsupported Safari Extensions

Safari will regularly inform you when there are extensions that slow down browsing or when they are no longer supported by Safari. Be sure to remove or delete these extensions.

There may also be instances when extensions can slow down browsing if they are installed but not enabled. So, be sure to enable Safari extensions after installing them.

Like several bazillion other users, I like using Facebook to keep tabs on what my friends are up to. What I don't like is the endless stream of "so-and-so took this quiz" and "Joe became friends with Jane" messages and "What Kind of Jedi Are You?" come-ons. That's why I just became a fan of Facebook Purity, a browser add-on that removes those annoying quiz and application notifications from your Facebook home page. Personally, I'm loving this add-on. Anything that cuts down Facebook clutter is a winner in my book.
To customize which stories show up, click on the "F.B. Purity" link and select what you want hidden; the interface is extremely intuitive. Apart from having the option to hide a multitude of stories including profile updates and tagged photos, you can hide the suggestions box, sponsored box, and the "get connected" box in the right-hand panel of the screen. Facebook has the ability to hide unwanted applications for you, but having all these options clearly marked in one place is very practical. Facebook does not have the ability to hide the side-panel boxes. The ability to hide different aspects of Facebook, while still having the option to display them, is extremely useful. This add-on is great for people who miss the olden days of Facebook, where cow pictures did not show up in every other post.

If your browser has a Greasemonkey compatbile extension available, you can try installing that and then install the GM Script version of F.B. Purity .

If none of those suggestions work, why not try installing one of the previously mentioned, supported browsers, you might just like it :) If you don't have installation rights to install software on your computer, you could try using a " portable " version of one of the supported browsers that you can run directly from a USB stick drive. The advantage of having it on a USB drive, is your favourite browser and custom FBP settings will go with you wherever you go.

Maybe it’s just me, but it looks like there is no way to search for a Safari extension on an iPad by typing in a string. All I’ve managed to find are simple lists of “top free” extensions, etc. No search field anywhere. Thanks again Apple!

Taxes Are Due in 3 Weeks. How to File a Tax Extension in 2024

Tax Day is coming up quick, which means it's time to decide whether you'll file your taxes or request a tax extension.

safari facebook extension

Tax Day is April 15, which is just three weeks away. If you're not sure you'll be able to get your tax return submitted on time, you may need to consider filing a tax extension. However, doing so may delay any money that's owed to you by the IRS. (Note that if you live in one of these states , you have a later tax filing deadline.)

Along with completing your tax return, tax software  can also help you file a tax extension, but you can also submit IRS Form 4868 by mail -- as long as you get it postmarked by the deadline.

Tax Tips logo

We'll tell you how to file a tax extension, as well as any money you could be delaying if you do. For more, here's how to file your taxes for free and  track your IRS tax refund  after you file.

How to file a tax extension

If you're planning to file a tax extension this year, you'll need to submit  Form 4868  (PDF) to the IRS either by paper or electronically using e-file before the April 15 deadline. As long as your electronic extension is submitted by midnight, or your letter is postmarked by that date, your extension should be good.

@cnetdotcom The April 18 #tax deadline is almost here and you need more time? File a tax extension to give yourself another 6 months. #taxtips #taxdeadline #taxextension #april18 #irs #4868 #taxseason #2022taxes #taxes #2023taxseason #taxday #taxtok #howtofiletaxes ♬ original sound - CNET

However, if you think that you owe taxes, you'll need to pay your  estimated income tax due using  Direct Pay , the  Electronic Federal Tax Payment System  or using a debit or  credit card . If you don't pay your estimated taxes with your extension and owe money, you'll have to pay interest on that money as well as a potential penalty when you do file.

Some taxpayers are automatically granted more time to file. This includes military personnel who are serving in a combat zone or persons in federally declared disaster areas . US citizens who live outside the country have until June 17  to file.

Will an extension delay any taxes you owe to the IRS?

No. Extending your filing deadline doesn't delay when you have to pay taxes that you may owe. According to the IRS, you need to estimate and pay at least 90% of your tax liability by the deadline to  avoid late fees . Otherwise, you will have accrued interest on what you owe, which you'll eventually have to pay -- plus possible penalties -- on top of your income taxes.

The late-payment penalty is usually 0.5% per month of the outstanding tax not paid by the filing deadline, maxing out at 25%. The IRS can also issue a late-filing penalty of 5% of the amount due for every month or partial month your tax return is late. If your return is filed more than 60 days after the due date, the minimum late-filing penalty is either $450 or 100% of the unpaid tax (whichever is less) .

For individual taxpayers, penalties and interest will stop accruing only when your balance is paid in full. For more on penalties or to work out a payment plan with the IRS, check out its web page .

child-tax-credit-stimulus-payment-cash-300-a-month-per-kid-2021-cnet-how-to-claim-005

Between the child tax credit and child care expenses, you could get a lot of money back this year.

How is child tax credit money related to 2023 tax returns?

If you had a new baby or gained a dependent any time in 2023 that the IRS didn't know about, you could get even more money back. Or if your income changed and you didn't update those details in the IRS Update Portal, you may be eligible to receive more money.

By not filing your taxes by the deadline, you could be missing out on up to $2,000 per child.

Are child care expenses included with tax refunds this year?

The child care tax credit continues to stay the same as its 2019 levels. The amount of money you can get back for expenses you paid for child care or dependent care has decreased significantly from the pre-pandemic amount. But a refund is still a refund! You could receive up to $1,050 for one child or up to $2,100 for two or more kids, according to TurboTax .

Here's what counts as an expense: day care, babysitters, transportation to and from care providers, day camp, and before- and after-school programs. The amount of money you're eligible to get reimbursed for will be sent with your tax refund.

Will your tax refund be late if you file an extension?

Yes. The timeline for getting your income tax refund depends on when you file. And although you have until Oct. 15 to submit your return if you file an extension, it doesn't mean you have to wait that long to file.

Some refunds, especially for more complicated returns or those that need corrections, could take months to arrive.

The IRS is asking taxpayers to file electronically this year and to carefully review their details before submitting to avoid any errors that could potentially delay their refund. The agency also asks that you sign up for direct deposit to get your money faster.

Ways to file your 2023 tax return

The IRS says that taxpayers can file and schedule their federal tax payments online, by phone or with the mobile IRS2Go app .

If you need to find a tax software service to use, and you make $79,000 or less, you can find an  IRS-approved free filing service  easily. You'll need to gather the following information: income statements (W2s or 1099s); any adjustments to your income; your current filing status (single, married, filing jointly); and dependent information. If you make more than $79,000, you can use the  Free File Fillable Form .

If you haven't already made a tax payment, the IRS prefers that payments be made electronically, and offers a variety of ways to do so, including  IRS Direct Pay , which is directly linked to a checking or savings account. Another option is by credit card using the mobile  IRS2Go app , or through the  Electronic Federal Tax Payment System .

How to review your IRS tax account online

An easy way to review all your tax-related details, including your address and payment plan details, is to access your IRS account online . According to the IRS, taxpayers can use the information from their account if they need to access their adjusted gross income, find their stimulus payment and child tax credit amounts, or review their estimated tax payments or credits. Accessing your tax transcript will give you all the records necessary if you have a tax problem or a missing payment.

If you have any additional questions you can go visit the IRS' Interactive Tax Assistant to get help.

For more tax information, here's why you might want to  sign up for direct deposit  when you file your taxes.

  • Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) identified in Texas and Kansas dairy cattle

Cattle from  Texas and Kansas have tested positive for Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI).

HPAI historically infects birds but has been documented to infect mammals. Based on the findings from Texas, the virus appears to have been introduced by wild birds. Federal and state agencies are moving quickly to conduct additional testing for HPAI, as well as viral genome sequencing, so that they can better understand the situation, including characterization of the HPAI strain or strains associated with these detections.

At this time, information from USDA, FDA, and CDC indicates the risk to the public is considered low and there is no concern about the safety of the commercial milk supply and no concern that this issue poses a risk to consumer health. Pasteurization has continually proven to inactivate bacteria and viruses, like influenza, in milk.

People should avoid consuming raw milk or raw milk products. Dairies are required to send only milk from healthy animals for human consumption. Milk from impacted animals does not enter the food supply.

Additional locations with similar case profiles have been identified and are waiting for test results. Farmers and veterinarians are encouraged to report cattle illnesses quickly so that USDA APHIS can monitor potential additional cases and minimize the impact to farmers, consumers and animals.

Veterinarians working with potentially impacted farms should consult with state health officials and their diagnostic laboratories to ensure they follow established diagnostic sampling guidelines.

Animals do not appear to be dying from this disease in impacted herds. In impacted herds, approximately 10% of cattle are affected, with most cases affecting mid to late-lactation mature cows. Impacted herds are experiencing approximately 10 to 20% reduction in milk production for 14 to 21 days. At this time, dry cows, fresh cows, heifers and calves do not appear to be affected.

Symptoms in affected cattle

  • Sy mptoms last between 10 and 14 days with the worst of the symptoms peaking in the first 3 to 5 days.
  • A sudden drop in milk production, with severe cases producing thicker, more concentrated milk that appears colostrum-like.
  • A drop in feed intake and rumination activity.
  • Most have t acky, dehydrated feces; a small number have loose feces.
  • Can experience secondary infections including pneumonia and mastitis.

Biosecurity measures needed

Based on these cases, cattle (dairy and beef) owners are encouraged to follow recommended biosecurity practices to reduce or eliminate livestock and avian interaction including:

  • Minimize or eliminate (when possible) poultry and livestock species access to ponds, wetlands, and other stagnant water sources frequented by wild waterfowl (ducks, geese, swans).
  • Monitor cattle for signs of illness, this includes decreased milk production, decreased feed intake, fever, dry or tacky feces and depression.
  • Monitor domestic poultry for illness, this includes reduced appetite, reduced water intake and unexplained deaths.
  • Monitor cats, wild waterfowl and wildlife that are frequently found around livestock facilities for illness or unexplained deaths.
  • Consider housing poultry separately from other livestock and minimize poultry access to pasture areas that are grazed by other livestock.
  • Minimize or eliminate (when possible) poultry, waterfowl and wildlife access to potentially shared water sources and feedstuffs (cover and secure feed piles).
  • Many cattle are vaccinated against Parainfluenza-3 (PI-3), a virus that can cause respiratory issues. Parainfluenza viruses are in a different family from influenza viruses and the PI-3 vaccine does not protect against influenza.
  • If you feel your herd’s symptoms are consistent with an Influenza A infection, consult your herd veterinarian or the Minnesota Board of Animal Health immediately.

We will share additional information as we learn more. For updates, please continue to check this website, the USDA APHIS website , and the Minnesota Board of Animal Health website . You can also listen to The Moos Room podcast for updates.

Everything You Need to Know About Getting Tape-In Extensions on Natural Hair

Tapeins For Textured Hair

If there were an Olympic category for hair extensions , Black women would be bringing home the gold. We’ve perfected the art of enhancing our natural curls with a bevy of hair extension methods including sew-ins, wigs , and braids. Textured tape-ins are quickly becoming a popular method for Black women wanting natural-looking extensions, so much so that #tapeinextensions and #curlytapeinextensions have 730.5 million and 8.9 million views on TikTok, respectively. While the buzz is mainly positive, there are a few sentiments of concern about how effective and safe tape-ins are for natural hair. The word “tape” alone makes this sound like the perfect setup for a sticky situation.

Once you secure a salon, your tape-in journey will begin with a consultation where your stylist explains that tape-in extensions are small sections of human hair (about one to two inches wide) that come pre-adhered to a “band with adhesive that holds the hair together,” says Houston-based hair stylist Alexis Underwood. Your stylist will also assess your hair’s texture, type, length, and density to determine what texture tape-ins are best and let you know if you’re even a good candidate for tape-ins ( more on that later ).

To ensure you don't end up with a tangled mess of curls, we tapped a few experts to explain everything you need to know about getting tape-ins on textured hair, including what to expect during an appointment, and how to maintain tape-ins on natural hair at home.

  • Kimberly Joseph-Rawlins is a Houston-based hairstylist specializing in micro-links, tape-ins and K-Tip extensions.
  • Alexis Underwood is a Dallas-based licensed cosmetologist.
  • Okwe Okolie is a natural hair stylist in Houston.
  • Dr. Adeline Kikam is a board-certified dermatologist and the founder of Brown Skin Derm™ and Skinclusive Dermatology.

What to look for in good tape-in extensions for textured hair

  • How to maintain tape-ins on natural hair

How to remove tape-in extensions

Can i get tape-in extensions if i have damaged hair.

Tape-ins are typically sold in bundles that include 20 to 40 pieces of individual extensions in each. Many stylists, like Underwood, will require you to purchase the hair extensions directly from them so that they know exactly what they're working with and can ensure that the hair is top-quality. If your stylist doesn’t provide the extensions, sites like Heat Free Hair and Wow Angel have a wide range of different lengths, colors, and textures. Underwood says that you should expect about four total bundles taped onto your head at the end of the process, so you'll need to purchase multiple.

WowAngel Tape in Hair Extensions Kinky Straight

It’s best to consult with your stylist before purchasing your tape-ins, but if you decide to go rogue, Underwood warns against skimping on quality. "You get what you're paying for," says Underwood. Cheaper options often have weaker adhesive and hold, so they won’t last as long. "The bands are not as thick so when you're taking them down, they can break which means you can’t use them again," says Underwood.

To ensure you love your tape-ins after you leave the salon, experts suggest picking a texture that is closest to your natural hair when blown out or straightened (depending on your preference between the two). "You don't want someone that has a kinky curl pattern with bone straight tape-ins because the textures won't match and it'll be harder to blend at home," says Underwood.

It’s also not a great idea to buy tape-in extensions that match your curly hair in its natural state. Houston-based textured hair specialist Okwe Okolie says this can cause more tangling and subsequent breakage during the maintenance stage.

For anyone with natural hair considering tape-in extensions, the first step is to find a good salon. Tape-ins can be damaging to your hair and the breakage will be far worse if the wefts are not installed by a professional. "TikTok and social media normalize this ‘do it on your own’ mentality, but this is one of those styles you should defer to a hair professional," says Houston-based, board-certified dermatologist Adeline Kikam , MD. "There's just too much potential for tangling and excessive heat.”

Most tape-in installation appointments will include a wash and blow dry service so there is no need to worry about coming with your hair pre-prepped. "I just tell my clients to come detangled and I take care of the rest," says Underwood.

Your stylist will start the actual installation process by sectioning your hair — first by parting it into rows, then segmenting those rows into even smaller sections that are about the width of your tape-in extension pieces. This is where it gets a little sticky. Your stylist will then carefully apply a weft above and below each of these smaller sections of hair. (Think of them as being sandwiched by your tape-ins.) This creates the seamless, ultra-flat blend that tape-ins are known for. The whole process typically takes about two and a half hours — so, you might want to bring a book with you.

Once all the extensions have been installed, the stylist will blow dry and straighten again to ensure your natural hair and the tape-in extensions are fully blended.

The service ranges from $400 to $1500 according to the experts we spoke to, but this does depend on your location and stylist’s experience — with the cost of the extensions ($130-$200 per bundle of which, again, you'll need at least four) you’re looking at about $920 to $2300 for the whole thing.

Tape-ins can last four to ten weeks (experts say 12 weeks is the maximum) on natural hair. "At the 12-week point, you've had some hair growth, and now gravity is pulling and exerting more tension on the scalp," says Dr. Kikam. That continuous pulling can lead to tension alopecia which is hair loss due to tension on the scalp .

After six to eight weeks you’ll need to have a new set of tape-ins installed — this is often referred to as a touch up. A stylist will remove the tape-ins, wash, condition, and blow dry the hair before attaching the tape-ins again. If you work out a lot, like to go for the occasional swim, or live in a very humid climate you may need more frequent touch-ups (every three to four weeks).

How to maintain tape-in extensions on natural hair

You can continue with your regular wash routine while wearing tape-in extensions with one caveat: avoid applying oil-based products to the scalp or base of the tape-in. This can break down the glue and cause your extensions to begin to slide out.

If you want that “just left the salon” look weeks after your appointment, you’ll need to be comfortable putting heat on your hair. Stylists recommend using a flat iron or blow dryer to keep your hair blended with the tape-ins. If you opt for a flat iron, be careful to avoid direct heat on the actual tapes. "If the flat iron touches the tape and heats the glue, it's able to be more pliable, and then they can slide[off]," says Houston-based hairstylist Kimberly Joseph-Rawlins .

To limit the amount of damage, only use heat tools one or two times a week and always use heat protectants. Brushing your extensions at least once a day can help your tape-ins last longer but be sure to avoid paddle brushes that can cause snagging on the tape. "Try to use a more flexible brush, like a tangle-free brush or a wet-dry brush," says Joseph-Rawlins, who recommends the Denman D90L Tangle Tamer and her own Kimistry brand Tangle Free Brush . If you plan on touching up your blowout post-install, this Oribe Large Round Hair Brush , is also a great addition — it’s sturdy boar bristles are great for all hair types.

You got your tape-ins at the salon, so it’s best to get them removed at the salon too. "I don't advise people to do it at home because I've done it myself and even I have pulled out my hair," says Underwood.

Your stylist will either use a plier-like tool to separate the tapes or a special solvent to dissolve the proteins of the glue so the extension can easily slide out with minimal tugging.

Stylists caution against getting tape-in extensions if your hair has been over-processed or has excessive breakage, as this can further the damage. This includes hair that has been relaxed, as “the strands are typically too weak to support the weight of the extensions,” says Underwood.

Beyond having damaged hair, there are many reasons — health, hair length, lifestyle — why tape-in extensions may not be ideal for someone. With certain scalp conditions, getting tape-in extensions can do more harm than good. "If you have psoriasis and require regular scalp treatments, tape-ins make scalp care more difficult, which can lead to more inflammation and possible hair loss," says Dr. Kikam. The derm adds that those with seborrheic dermatitis should also steer clear of tape-ins.

Also, some stylists require your hair to be at least shoulder length when stretched before installing tape-in extensions. “If it is any shorter, you may have to cut your [tape-in extensions] so they can blend," says Underwood.

If you’re looking for a protective and low-maintenance style, tape-ins are not ideal. The entirety of your natural hair has to be left out and manipulated with hot tools so tape-ins aren’t for “those who do not want to or do not know how to properly use heat tools on their natural hair,” says Underwood.

Dallas Cowboys v Seattle Seahawks

Jerry Jones discusses value in CeeDee Lamb amid extension rumors - Nick Harris, Dallascowboys.com

The Dallas Cowboys priority should be extending their star wide receiver.

Jones has often referred to massive extensions being a similar amount to paying multiple players in place from a salary cap standpoint and that the value has to match. In Lamb’s case, finding that exact value could be tough for both sides to come to an agreement on, but Jones knows it’s one he will want to make. “He’s out there and he’s more valuable than anybody else,” Jones said on Tuesday. “But that valuable, to have to give up four or five players to have him, you have to get that reconciled. That’s what I’m trying to say. It’s a lot quicker and easier said than done.” Once the deal is done, the usage comes into play to get the value out of the deal. Coming off a season where Lamb set franchise records for receptions (135) and receiving yards (1,749), that usage is undeniable at the negotiation table. “Whoever has CeeDee, and I hope it’s us, they’re going to use him,” Jones said. “You have to. You just have to get that kind of mileage out of him. What has he shown us? That he’s capable of carrying that load. We’ve gotta have focus.”

Cowboys QB Dak Prescott expected to play on current contract for 2024 season - Kevin Patra, NFL.com

The Cowboys and their franchise quarterback know where things stand entering the season.

The Cowboys and Prescott have a mutual understanding that there will be no adjustment to his contract entering the 2024 season, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported on Tuesday, per sources informed of the plan. It was assumed the Cowboys would need to extend Prescott’s contract this offseason to lower the massive salary cap figure. Ultimately, the club and QB decided it was best to play out the deal and figure things out on the other side of the season. Earlier this month, the Cowboys converted a $5 million roster bonus into a signing bonus, shaving $4 million off Prescott’s salary cap figure. That number still sits at a whopping $55.445 million. The club also added two additional void years through 2028. Prescott signed a four-year, $160 million contract in 2021, which included no-trade and no-tag clauses. With no extension forthcoming, Prescott is on his way toward free agency in 2025. If Dallas doesn’t eventually sign the QB to an extension, he’d still count $40.46 million against the 2025 salary cap. In 2021, Prescott owned all the leverage after Dallas used back-to-back franchise tags on the QB. That leverage allowed him to negotiate a shorter, four-year deal than the five-year pact the club preferred. Given his massive cap number, Prescott still owns a ton of leverage. Instead of bowing to that power, the Cowboys seem to be content to let things play out.

NFL Power Rankings 2024: Which teams improved in free agency? - ESPN

Cowboys barely hang on to a Top 10 spot in power rankings after a disappointing free agency.

9. Dallas Cowboys Way-too-early ranking: 7 Under-the-radar move: Keeping assistant coaches Lunda Wells, Al Harris The Cowboys have not made a splash in free agency, but blocking Wells (tight ends coach) and Harris (secondary coach) from interviewing with other teams this offseason was best for Dallas — if not also for the personal growth of both coaches. Wells has done an excellent job overseeing the tight ends, first with Dalton Schultz putting up career numbers before leaving in 2023 and then with Jake Ferguson . Harris has seen corners Trevon Diggs and DaRon Bland lead the NFL in interceptions in 2021 and 2023 while earning Pro Bowl bids. — Todd Archer

Cowboys draft 2024: LB Edgerrin Cooper scouting report - Mike Poland, Blogging the Boys

If the Cowboys draft a linebacker, “Edge” Cooper is a name to keep an eye on.

History: Coming out of Covington High School, Cooper was a four-star recruit and was ranked the ninth-best linebacker in his class. He would enroll at Texas A&M in 2020. His freshman season was quiet in terms of defensive snaps but he played 140 snaps on special teams. The next year Cooper got more of a role as a rotational linebacker and played 339 snaps on defense. He played primarily at middle linebacker and had seven pressures with one sack as a pass rusher. On run defense, he had 58 tackles and six tackles for loss while in pass coverage he made two pass breakups and one interception. THE GOOD: A consistent playmaker with a long track record of production Elite speed and burst which is seen most when playing Spy or chasing down ball carriers to the outside Very good agility and change-of-direction skills Shows quick reactions and very good play recognition Burst and speed helps him break into the backfield easily to get to the ball carrier or complete for a sack THE BAD: His frame has room to add more bulk but this would reduce his fluid movement skills and speed, taking away what makes him special Will overrun the play due to going at full speed when patience is needed. Smart or agile runners can work around him. Plays quite upright which can cause him to knock back off the ball carrier in a tackle - Lacks strength to stack and shed
