ATLANTA – The 2022-23 PGA TOUR season culminates this week at East Lake Golf Club with the TOUR Championship. Defending FedExCup champion Rory McIlroy, FedExCup points leader Scottie Scheffler and the 28 next highest points-getters in the FedExCup standings are all competing for the FedExCup trophy and their share of $75 million prize pool.

The total payout for all 30 players in the field is as follows:

The 2023 FedEx Cup Playoffs conclude this week at the Tour Championship, where the winner will take home $18 million (before taxes) in bonus money.

This year marks the 17th season of the playoffs. PGA Tour players battled through 46 events to get to the finale.

The top 70 in the FedEx Cup points made the postseason with the top 50 advancing to Week 2 and then just the top 30 reaching East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta.

Tour Championship : Thursday tee times, TV info | Odds, best bets

Rory McIlroy became the first three-time winner of the FedEx Cup when he rallied from six shots back a year ago to track down Scottie Scheffler.

The winner of the Tour Championship is declared the FedEx Cup champion and takes home the first-place prize of $18 million in bonus money. The runner-up gets $6.5 million, with third place earning $5 million, all the way down to 30th place, which is good for $500,000.

Bonus money payouts

There is a total of $75 million in bonus money up for grabs at East Lake.

The PGA Tour will continue to utilize the FedEx Cup Starting Strokes, which was introduced for the first time in 2019. It’s a staggered system whereby the golfer in the top position will start the Tour Championship at 10 under.

Starting strokes

This system was established to give players at the top of the points list the reward of a starting advantage in the Tour Championship.

Only two multiple winners

The first 16 seasons of the playoff produced 13 different winners with McIlroy (2016, 2019, 2022) and Tiger Woods (2007, 2009) the only golfers to win it more than once.

The PGA Tour season draws to a close with the top 30 players in the FedEx Cup standings competing at East Lake in Georgia.

As well as a far smaller field than other events on the PGA Tour, the Tour Championship also has a unique scoring system based on each player's FedEx Cup standings before the tournament.

Sitting at the top of the list is World No.1 Scottie Scheffler . Thanks to that achievement, he starts with a two-shot advantage over his nearest competitor on 10-under.

The player closest to him is Viktor Hovland, thanks largely to his win in second FedEx Cup Playoff tournament, the BMW Championship at Olympia Fields. The Norwegian claimed victory in some style, too. In the final round, he carded a 61, the lowest in FedEx Cup Playoff history. Meanwhile, it was also the lowest of his career and a course record.

Given he's heading into this week's tournament on the back of such an impressive performance, it's unlikely Scheffler will feel comfortable at the top despite his two-shot head start.

Viktor Hovland begins two shots off the lead

One shot behind Hovland is Rory McIlroy , who starts at seven under. The 34-year-old is aiming for a record fourth FedEx Cup title as he attempts to replicate his win at East Lake last season, when he edged out Sungae Im and Scheffler in a thrilling final round . Given McIlroy's form of late, which has included top-10 finishes in each of his last nine starts, few would bet against him winning.

While each of the top three have good reason to believe they can lift the trophy on Sunday evening, there are several other realistic candidates. One is Masters champion Jon Rahm , who starts four shots off the lead. The Spaniard began 2023 in scintillating form, and if he can return to his best this week, he'll be in with an excellent chance of securing his first FedEx Cup title.

Lucas Glover, at five under, will also be hoping to continue a hot streak that has brought two wins in the last month, including the opening FedEx Cup PlayOff tournament, the FedEx St. Jude Championship . There is added incentive for the American to perform well as he still has a chance of persuading Ryder Cup captain Zach Johnson he is worthy of a wildcard for the match.

Beyond those players, others looking to eat into Scheffler's lead will be 2021 FedEx Cup winner Patrick Cantlay , who starts at four under, along with Max Homa , who ranks seventh in the world, Open champion Brian Harman . US Open winner Wyndham Clark and the player who won the Major in 2022, Matt Fitzpatrick, also begin six off the lead.

Other big names in the field include Tommy Fleetwood , Rickie Fowler and Xander Schauffele , who each begin at three under, while 2015 FedEx Cup winner Jordan Spieth begins 10 off the lead.

The tournament boasts a purse of $75m, with the winner taking home a huge $18m, while the runner-up will win $6.5m.

Below is the prize money, field and starting positions for the Tour Championship at East Lake.

  • -10 Scottie Scheffler
  • -8 Viktor Hovland
  • -7 Rory McIlroy
  • -6 Jon Rahm
  • -5 Lucas Glover
  • -4 Max Homa, Patrick Cantlay, Brian Harman, Wyndham Clark, Matt Fitzpatrick
  • -3 Tommy Fleetwood, Russell Henley, Keegan Bradley, Rickie Fowler, Xander Schauffele
  • -2 Tom Kim, Sungjae Im, Tony Finau, Corey Conners, Si Woo Kim
  • -1 Taylor Moore, Nick Taylor, Adam Schenk, Collin Morikawa, Jason Day
  • E Sam Burns, Emiliano Grillo, Tyrrell Hatton, Jordan Spieth, Sepp Straka

Who Won The 2022 Tour Championship?

Rory McIlroy claimed his third FedEx Cup trophy in 2022 following a thrilling final day. That was despite getting the tournament off to the worst possible start with a triple-bogey. In the end, McIlroy edged out Sungae Im and Scottie Scheffler to claim the $18m first prize.

Tour Championship 2023: How $75 Million in Prize Money Breaks Down at the FedEx Cup Finale

the tour championship prize money

A massive pool of FedEx Cup prize money will be divvied up this weekend — let’s discuss what the PGA Tour’s biggest stars stand to earn at the Tour Championship.

Remember when the PGA Tour and LIV Golf were involved in a world-historical feud, sued each other approximately 42,690 times (don’t look that up, it’s just science), and then agreed to merge like some kind of bizarro will-they-or-won’t-they sitcom plot resolution? Like, when the writers’ room is really, really out of ideas?

Well, from a US regulatory perspective, the chances that Saudi Arabia’s sovereign Public Investment Fund becomes the only major investor in the proposed venture are basically zero, but as it relates to dollar signs, the PGA Tour nonetheless got the memo — in today’s golf environment, you gotta pony up big-time.

The Tour Championship , which begins Thursday, Aug. 24 at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta, marks the finale of the FedEx Cup Playoffs , the PGA Tour’s trendy competition format that seeks to recognize the year’s best players overall. Is it The Masters? No. But you don’t get $18 million for winning The Masters.

Yes, $18 million.

There’s a lot to parse here, so let’s explain how the full $75 million load of FedEx Cup prize money really breaks down! With 2022 Masters champion Scottie Scheffler entering as the favorite to take the top prize as Viktor Hovland and Rory McIlroy nip at his heels, welcome to Boardroom’s 2023 Tour Championship payout party.

An important final note — these figures are not actually Tour Championship prize money per se. Rather, they represent FedEx Cup payouts for the entire season of the competition; the Tour Championship simply represents the final event on the calendar. As a result, though just the top 30 golfers in the standings are competing this week at East Lake, 150 players will receive some share of the $75 million FedEx Cup prize money pool , with no bag smaller than $85,000.

All told, 125 competitors are guaranteed a six-figure check, but in one strict sense, the “official” Tour Championship payout is still zero. All that work for nothing, Scottie Scheffler! What a racket.

The LPGA has moved to its fourth event of the year and the second event of the three-event swing in Asia. Following the Honda LPGA Thailand, the tour is in action this week at the HSBC Women’s World Championship at Sentosa Golf Club in Singapore.

The overall purse at Sentosa’s Tanjong Course is $1.8 million with the winner taking home $270,000 for her victory.

The 66-player field features eight of the top 10 players in the world, including No. 1 Lilia Vu. Jin Young Ko, ranked No. 6 in the Rolex Rankings, is looking to win this event for the third consecutive year after shooting identical 17-under-par scores to win the last two years. Ko topped Nelly Korda by two shots last year and Minjee Lee and In Gee Chun by two shots in 2022.

“So this course is pretty demanding off the tee, and I think with how the green has been playing, it's a little bit on the firmer side,” Vu said earlier in the week. “So for me, you can't really attack the pins. You kind of just have to aim for the front of the green and just kind of have a plan after that. So just playing smart golf, not being too greedy and I think I'm just going to stick to that game plan.”

Next week the LPGA is at the Blue Bay LPGA in China, before heading back to California for three consecutive events out west.

Here is the prize money breakdown for all players this week in Singapore. Check back here Sunday after the tournament is over for more updates.

2024 Mexico Open money: Purse, payout breakdown, winner’s share

Tour rookie Jake Knapp is playing with the Sunday lead for the first time in his pro career.

Getty Images

On the strength of a course-record setting front-nine 28, PGA Tour rookie Jake Knapp fired a seven-under 63 on Saturday to seize a four-shot lead heading into the final round of the Mexico Open . Knapp, 29, has been around the development-tour block, but this is his first time playing as a front-runner on Sunday.

His closest pursuer — and playing partner — is another rookie, Finland’s Sami Valimaki, who, like Knapp, is seeking his first Tour win.

The event, at Vidanta, in Puerto Vallarta, does not feature the season’s most sparkling field, but there’s plenty to play for, including a Masters invite , a two-year Tour exemption and a slot in the remaining five $20 million signature events as well as the PGA Championship.

FedEx Cup earnings: How much each golfer in the 2023 Tour Championship field has made in his career

An $18 million grand prize goes to the winner of the tour championship.

rory-mcilroy-scottie-scheffler-2022-tour-championship-g.jpg

The prize money on the PGA Tour has never been bigger, and the same will ring true this week at the 2023 Tour Championship. The final event of the FedEx Cup is set to reward the top 30 golfers this year, all of whom have qualified for action at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta. Between prize money and FedEx Cup bonuses, a total purse of $75 million will be one the line at the postseason finale.

Lucas Glover and Viktor Hovland each collected $3.6 million for their victories in the first two playoff events, but that is nothing compared to the $18 million awarded to the winner of the FedEx Cup. In fact, all competitors will see at least $500,000 hit their bank accounts following the completion of play with those inside the top 10 cashing in on seven-figure paydays and those in the top five collecting at least $3 million each.

To contextualize the $18 million winner's purse, only one player on the PGA Tour this season (Scottie Scheffler) has surpassed this money total entering the Tour Championship. The seasons of Brian Harman and Keegan Bradley -- who boast a major championship, designated event and another victory to boot between them -- would roughly add up to this figure.

Providing even further context, below we dissect just how much $18 million would mean to each participant in the Tour Championship (as it is surely not the same to Rory McIlroy as it is Adam Schenk, for example). Looking at their career on-course earnings -- excluding past FedEx Cup winnings as they are classified as bonuses -- the prize money becomes even more obscene.

Importance of winning the Tour Championship

Looking at what winning $18 million would mean to each golfer remaining in the FedEx Cup Playoffs chase.

Scheffler just about doubled his on-course earnings this season, and the addition of $18 million to his career earnings would pull him close to his fellow Texan, Jordan Spieth, at $60 million. Spieth ranks behind only McIlroy in this field in career earnings and ahead of the likes of Jason Day, Jon Rahm and Rickie Fowler, all of whom check in inside the top 20 for most money earned on the PGA Tour.

Only six of the 30 players in the field would more than double their career earnings with a victory. Wyndham Clark may be the most surprising of the group as he ranks fifth on the money list for this season at nearly $11 million thanks to wins at the U.S. Open and the Wells Fargo Championship. That means he earned roughly $5 million across his four other seasons on tour.

Valspar Championship winner Taylor Moore would make the biggest splash by more than doubling his earnings. Schenk, Nick Taylor, Tom Kim and Sepp Straka round out this group of six.

Patrick Cantlay, Xander Schauffele, Collin Morikawa, Tyrrell Hatton, Tommy Fleetwood, Sungjae Im and Schenk make up those players to not win this season and qualify for the Tour Championship. Their first trophy and winner's check of the year couldn't come at a better time with so much on the line at East Lake.

Mexico Open at Vidanta payout distribution 2024: Prize money, purse

By cody williams | feb 25, 2024.

Mexico Open at Vidanta - Final Round

Coming into the 2024 Mexico Open at Vidanta, the field was the biggest talking point. Defending champion Tony Finau was by far the best player teeing it up on the PGA Tour this week and the rightful favorite. At the same time, though, it was an opportunity for lesser-known and lower-ranked players to try and make a statement to the golf world.

And indeed, that was the way things had shaped up coming into Sunday's final round. It was Jake Knapp who fired off two great rounds back-to-back on Friday and Saturday to go into the remaining 18 holes with a four-shot lead. His closest challenger, however, was the burly Sami Valimaki, also looking to make headway and try and get his first PGA Tour victory as well.

With Knapp falling back to the field early on Sunday, though, that opened the door for Valimaki and potentially others. But as always, they were playing for a substantial payout on the PGA Tour. So what did the prize money distribution look like from the Mexico Open purse? Let's take a look at the breakdown by finishing position.

Mexico Open purse 2024: Winner's prize money, total purse

The winner of the 2024 Mexico Open at Vidanta will receive $1.458 million in prize money, a hefty share of the total $8.1 million purse this week. As a non-signature event for the 2024 season, this purse and the payouts at the Mexico Open pale in comparison to the likes of last week's Genesis Invitational and even the Arnold Palmer Invitational in a couple of weeks, but it's still a valuable opportunity in the FedEx Cup race and trying to qualify for signature events and major championships.

Mexico Open payout distribution by finishing position in 2024

Normally, we see the purse start to get really split up when it comes to the bottom of the standings. That's not the case this week, however, as only 65 players made the cut at the 2024 Mexico Open, giving us the standard payout distribution that was set out coming into the week.

Even if the prize money isn't going to wow anyone this week at Vidanta, the results are critical for the season-long race on the PGA Tour as guys like Valimaki are vying for entry into bigger events with bigger payouts. The success at the Mexico Open can go a long way to get to that point. And let's be honest, the payday still isn't too bad for a four-day week on the golf course.
