The weeknd announces australian tour with vodafone exclusive ticket presale.

Brett Wadelton

Canadian music superstar The Weeknd is officially coming to Australia in November 2023.

After breaking attendance records in London, Paris and Milan with over 1.6 million people attending during the European summer, The Weeknd will perform in Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney in November and December.

The After Hours Til Dawn Tour with special guests Mike Dean and Chxrry22 will kick off Monday, November 20 in Brisbane at Suncorp Stadium before heading to Sydney on November 24 and December 1 in Melbourne .

Abel Tesfaye, adopting the moniker The Weeknd, embarked on his musical journey with the release of his mixtape House Of Balloons in 2011. This marked the beginning of a series of artistic endeavours, including the subsequent EPs Thursday and Echoes Of Silence, all of which came together to form the comprehensive compilation album known as the Trilogy.

In 2013, Tesfaye unveiled his inaugural album, titled Kiss Land, followed by his 2015 offering Beauty Behind The Madness. This release turned out to be a turning point in his career, propelling him to international fame based on chart-toppers like Can’t Feel My Face and The Hills.

The Weeknd’s subsequent album, Starboy, graced the music scene in 2016. This release featured a notable collaboration with Daft Punk and secured the prestigious Grammy Award for Best Urban Contemporary Album. The anticipation of fans was rewarded with Tesfaye’s fourth album, After Hours, which finally arrived in 2020. The album was marked by the ubiquitous presence of tracks such as Blinding Lights and Save Your Tears.

His fifth studio album came in 2022 when Dawn FM was released, marking what is likely to be his penultimate album.

“The album I’m working on now is probably my last hurrah as The Weeknd.

“This is something that I have to do. As The Weeknd, I’ve said everything I can say,” he told W Magazine in May 2023.

The After Hours Til Dawn Tour , if you guessed it, celebrates The Weeknd’s latest two albums, 2020’s After Hours and his January 2022 release, Dawn FM . So far on this tour, The Weeknd has broken attendance records in London and Milan, selling hundreds of thousands of tickets all across Europe.

The tour announcement arrives three months after Tesfaye revealed that he’d no longer make music as The Weeknd . “The visuals are vital to my career,” he told W Magazine in May before admitting, “The album I’m working on now is probably my last hurrah as The Weeknd.

“This is something that I have to do. As The Weeknd, I’ve said everything I can say.” You can read the full interview  here .

In January, The Weeknd’s Blinding Lights was named as Spotify’s most-streamed song of all time , overtaking Ed Sheeran ’s Shape Of You .

Upon his last visit to Australia in December 2017, The Music reviewer Madelyn Tait commented that “The Weeknd proved himself as a phenomenal live act with an extensive discography of hits” at his Qudos Bank Arena show. It’s been too long since The Weeknd touched down on our shores, but now we have even more hits to witness.

The Weeknd Announces 2023 Australian Tour

By Music Feeds

The Weeknd is bringing his ‘After Hours Til Dawn’ tour to Australia in late November and early December 2023. The Canadian musician will perform at stadium venues in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne on his first visit to Australia in six years.

The tour gets its name from The Weeknd’s two most recent albums, 2020’s After Hours and 2022’s Dawn FM . The former included the single ‘Blinding Lights’, which US publication Billboard deemed the “top Billboard Hot 100 song of all time”.

The Weeknd – ‘Blinding Lights’

Earlier this year, The Weeknd’s Abel Tesfaye suggested he’s ready to abandon his professional alias . “The album I’m working on now is probably my last hurrah as The Weeknd,” he told  W Magazine . “This is something that I have to do. As The Weeknd, I’ve said everything I can say.”

“I’ll still make music, maybe as Abel, maybe as The Weeknd,” he added. “But I still want to kill The Weeknd. And I will. Eventually. I’m definitely trying to shed that skin and be reborn.”

Tesfaye recently starred as Tedros in the HBO series The Idol , alongside Lily-Rose Depp and Troye Sivan. He also co-created the show with Euphoria ‘s Sam Levinson and producer Reza Fahim. According to Forbes , the five-episode series was “by far” the “worst reviewed show” in HBO history.

-great light display/props/theatrics

-he sang music from all his albums which was well appreciated!

-he interacted with the crowd

-he sings AMAZING live

-chill atmosphere

-performers/musicians were smoking weed on stage

-Abel took a longgg time to get on stage, we were there for almost two hours before he did

-crowd was very drunk & rude (not his fault)

-merchandise was very expensive (I payed $40 for a t-shirt)

This review might not be completely objective as Abel has been my favourite singer for a few years now. However, I can definitely admit the Starboy tour date in Paris was the best pop concert I've been to this year. Even though some songs could have been put out of the tracklist, he mostly sang his catchiest songs of his career, no matter the era. He has great, or should I say, tremendous energy as he continuously sang twenty-something songs with no pause in between. He has no trouble reaching high notes live, his voice sounding even more heavenly in real life. That night, he invited Travis Scott on stage who pumped up the crowd more than him, which is a shame and showcases very well his lack of success and recognition in France, yet, in a sold out stadium. Most people actually didn't even know his real name or the lyrics of his songs ! I would recommend any "real fan" who has known him for a while or who likes his last album a lot to go to a Starboy tour date. I promise you, you won't regret it.

The concert was absolutely stunning. A starship was used and the lights were coordinated very well. Abel sang amazingly in person and I loved jumping up and down screaming with other members of the audience while he sang. The concert was truly magical and I enjoyed every second Abel stood on stage.

As for the other singers who appeared on stage, I was very satisfied with their singing as well. They did an amazing job and captured the entire audience. In between Abel's music, the other singers such as Lil Uzi and 6lack played their hits on stage and the whole crowd became even more alive. If I the concert played out any other way, I'm sure I wouldn't have enjoyed it as much as this concert.

Fans Reckon They’ve Figured Out The Reason Why The Weeknd Rescheduled His Aus/NZ Tour

the weeknd tour sydney australia

Lachlan Hodson

Rebekah Manibog

When someone huge like The Weeknd flakes on Australia, many fans are quick to conjure up theories as to why their faves couldn’t make it Down Under.

Fans on X (previously Twitter) reckon the Billboard Music Awards — AKA the BBMAs — is the reason why The Weeknd decided to postpone his tour. You see, The Weeknd has been listed as a finalist for 16 awards , which is extremely impressive.

Another thing to note is that the date for the BBMAs — November 19 — seems to clash with The Weeknd’s first stop in Brisbane, which was supposed to be on November 20.

Punters on the social media site reckon the “Starboy” singer decided to reschedule the tour not only to attend the BBMAs but to also perform “Die For You” with Ariana Grande .

“The Weeknd postponed his tour in Australia. this can only mean one thing,” one Xer user began.

“ARIANA AND ABEL ARE GOING TO PERFORM DIE FOR YOU AT THE BILLBOARD MUSIC AWARDS.”

The user linked out to the duo’s 2021 iHeart Radio Music Awards performance, where they sang “Save Your Tears”.

This is not the only user who believes this conspiracy theory. Other folks have jumped on the BBMAs bandwagon, crossing their fingers for another immaculate duet.

As someone who had to buy second-hand tickets for The Weeknd, I would be spewing if this was the real reason. Like, why didn’t you just bring Ariana to Australia and sing that crunchy tune here? Why have you forsaken me and my bank account?

At the end of the day, it’s just rumours and speculation. So please take this theory with a grain of salt.

ICYMI: Fans were rocked last week after The Weeknd canned his tour in Australia and New Zealand weeks before he was set to perform.

In an announcement that was emailed to ticket holders just weeks before they were supposed to see the artist perform the acclaimed tour live, The Weeknd told fans that he regrettably had to reschedule the hyped-up event.

“Due to unforeseen circumstances, we must reschedule the Australia/New Zealand tour,” he said in a statement.

“New dates will be announced next year, and current tickets will be valid for the new shows. Refunds will be available for those unable to attend the new dates. Deeply disappointed but can’t wait to be there with you!”

the weeknd tour sydney australia

As mentioned previously, the AHTD tour was supposed to begin in Brisbane this month on November 20 at Suncorp Stadium , before continuing to Sydney, then Melbourne, and finishing in Auckland on December 9.

The AHTD tour had been widely anticipated for months, before The Weeknd announced in August that he would be visiting Australia and New Zealand at the end of the year for four shows. However, due to massive demand they later increased the total number of shows to 11.

Eleven shows which are now going to have to wait until next year to be rescheduled.

Thankfully, they foresaw the disappointment fans would have at hearing the shows were cancelled at such late notice.

“We understand fans will be disappointed, and Live Nation is focused on working with The Weeknd to secure a new tour schedule. We will make a further announcement as soon as possible,” said Ticketmaster’s statement.

the weeknd tour sydney australia

Fans who purchased tickets will be given new tickets for the future tour dates, and will have the option to ask for a refund if they cannot make the rescheduled times.

I only fear what would happen if Taylor Swift made the same announcement… Australia could not recover.

The last time The Weeknd performed in Australia was 2017.

That’s it for this episode of Pedestrian Night Live’s Weeknd Update . Up next our musical act: someone else who didn’t want to come to Australia! RIP.

The Weeknd has abruptly postponed his Australian stadium tour just two weeks out from its start date.

The Canadian singer – real name Abel Tesfaye – was due to kick off his ‘After Hours Til Dawn’ tour in Brisbane on November 20, but has pulled the pin citing “unforeseen circumstances”.

“Due to unforeseen circumstances, we must reschedule the Australia/New Zealand tour,” The Weeknd said in a statement.

Local entertainment company Live Nation, which is looking after The Weeknd for the Australian leg of his tour, added, “We understand fans will be disappointed, and Live Nation is focused on working with The Weeknd to secure a new tour schedule. We will make a further announcement as soon as possible.”

Ticketek has updated The Weeknd’s ticketing page on its website, saying ticket holders would be contacted with new dates “in due course”.

“Patrons unable to attend the new dates can obtain a refund from the point of purchase,” the website added.

He was due to perform at Brisbane’s Suncorp Stadium on November 20 and 21, before hosting back-to-back shows at Sydney’s Accor Stadium on November 24 and 25.

His final shows in Australia were set for Melbourne’s Marvel Stadium on December 1 and 2, before the star was headed to New Zealand for two shows at Auckland’s Eden Park on December 8 and 9.

The tour is in support of his fourth and fifth studio albums, After Hours (2020) and Dawn FM (2022).

The Weeknd wrapped the European leg of the tour in August, before performing shows in Latin America in September and October.

Variety reported the ‘After Hours Til Dawn’ tour made over $US350 million in sales as of July, making it the highest grossing tour by a black artist, surpassing Michael Jackson’s ‘HIStory World Tour’ in the late ‘90s.

That same month, The Weeknd broke London Stadium’s attendance record with 160,000 concertgoers across two nights.

Taylor Swift was seen struggling onstage at her Singapore concert, but the show must go on - despite fans’ concerns.

The Weeknd performs at London Stadium

Live Nation

The Weeknd’s Australian tour just got a lot bigger.

The award-winning Canadian artist announced last week that he was bringing his global stadium tour to Australia and New Zealand this year. Stops in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, and Auckland through November and December were initially confirmed, and now The Weeknd has added another three dates due to overwhelming demand.

He’ll now perform in Brisbane on Tuesday, November 21st, Sydney on Saturday, November 25th, and Melbourne on Saturday, December 2nd, meaning he’ll perform twice in each city. The Weeknd will be supported by special guests Mike Dean and Chxrry22 on the upcoming tour.

Tickets go on sale to the general public on Friday, September 1st at staggered times – Melbourne from 10am, Brisbane from 11am, and Sydney from 12pm.

The Live Nation, Binance, ticket agent, and venue pre-sales begin on Thursday, August 31st at staggered times – Melbourne from 10am, Brisbane from 11am, and Sydney from 12pm. And Foxtel Rewards members can also access an exclusive pre-sale on Friday, September 1st at 10am local time.

Before reaching Australia and New Zealand, The Weeknd’s global stadium run has regularly been shattering records. The tour recently broke London Stadium’s attendance record thanks to 160,000 fans attending across two nights.

In France, The Weeknd’s shows in Nice, which sold 70,000 tickets across two shows, became the highest in the city’s history, while he became the first artist to sell out two nights at Milan’s Ippodromo La Maura in Italy.

A United Nations World Food Programme Goodwill Ambassador, The Weeknd – real name Abel Tesfaye – will again contribute funds from this new leg of his tour to the XO Humanitarian Fund, which supports the organisation’s response to the unprecedented global food crisis.

The Weeknd’s tour belatedly celebrates his 2020 album, After Hours , as well as his 2022 album, Dawn FM , both of which topped the albums charts in Australia and New Zealand.

Just In: The Weeknd Has Postponed His 2023 Tour Down Under Just Weeks Out

The singer and 'The Idol' star said he was "deeply disappointed but can't wait to be there with you!”.

Just In: The Weeknd Has Postponed His 2023 Tour Down Under Just Weeks Out

Sorry Australia and New Zealand, you can't feel it coming after all — Abel 'The Weeknd' Tesfaye and his planned 2023 tour of both countries, that is. Just over two weeks out from his first scheduled gig Down Under as part of his visit, and after having to put on more shows to meet demand before tickets even went on sale , the musician has postponed his trip.

"Due to unforeseen circumstances, we must reschedule the Australia/New Zealand tour. New dates will be announced next year and current tickets will be valid for the new shows," advises a statement on the Live Nation website , which is credited as a message from The Weeknd to his fans.

"Refunds will be available for those unable to attend the new dates. Deeply disappointed but can't wait to be there with you!" the statement continues.

"We understand fans will be disappointed, and Live Nation is focused on working with The Weeknd to secure a new tour schedule. We will make a further announcement as soon as possible," added Live Nation Australia and New Zealand.

The Canadian singer-songwriter and The Idol star was due to play two shows at Brisbane's Suncorp Stadium from Monday, November 20–Tuesday, November 21 to kick off the tour, then head to Sydney for three gigs at Accor Stadium from Friday, November 24–Saturday, November 25 and on Monday, November 27.

After that, he had four shows locked in for Marvel Stadium in Melbourne: on Friday, December 1–Saturday, December 2 and Monday, December 4–Tuesday, December 5. Then, it was meant to be Eden Park in Auckland's turn from Friday, December 8–Saturday, December 9.

An  arena spectacular, The Weeknd's global tour has been notching up soldout shows far and wide. In the UK, The Weekend saw 160,000 folks head to London Stadium across two nights, smashing the venue's attendance record. And in Milan, he became the first artist to sell out the Ippodromo La Maura for two nights.

Those feats are just the beginning. In Paris, the 'Starboy', 'I Feel It Coming', 'Can't Feel My Face', 'The Hills' and 'Blinding Lights' artist scored Stade de France's biggest sales this year — and in Nice, the 70,000 tickets sold across his two shows are the most in the city's history.

the weeknd tour sydney australia

The reason for the whole tour, other than just because — and when it does make its rescheduled trip Down Under — is to celebrate The Weeknd's 2020 record After Hours and its 2022 followup Dawn FM . Obviously, he'll be playing tracks from 2013's Kiss Land , 2015's Beauty Behind the Madness and 2016's Starboy as well.

Just like new dates, there's no word yet if Mike Dean and Chxrry22 will still be supporting The Weeknd's Australian and NZ gigs when they do happen.

THE WEEKND'S 'AFTER HOURS TIL DAWN TOUR' 2023 — POSTPONED DATES:

The Weeknd is no longer touring Australia and New Zealand in November and December 2023. The shows will be rescheduled, with new dates yet to be announced — head to the tour website for more information.
