Kwik trip and culver's are recruiting j.j. watt back to wisconsin, share this article.
Hey @jjwatt here's 17 reasons to sign with the Packers pic.twitter.com/MGecLkuVAB — Kwik Trip (@KwikTrip) February 12, 2021
Can you imagine being back in a state with 142 of them? https://t.co/kGhkW3w9xH — Culver's Restaurants (@culvers) February 13, 2021
The Green Bay Packers might not need to court J.J. Watt back to Wisconsin if both the No. 1 convenience store chain and No. 1 fast food franchise are going to do most of the work for them.
Kwik Trip and Culver’s, two Wisconsin-based companies, both took to Twitter to help convince Watt to come back to his home state and sign with the Packers.
Kwik Trip noted the 17 locations in and around the Green Bay area. Culver’s pointed out that the state of Wisconsin has 142 restaurant locations.
The Houston Texans released Watt, a native of Pewaukee who starred for the Wisconsin Badgers. While with the Texans, Watt was an eight-time All-Pro and three-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year. The two sides parted ways on Friday.
Speculation about Watt returning home to play for the Packers has dominated the weekend.
The fit is almost perfect. Watt is dying to play in a Super Bowl, while the Packers have a need along the defensive front.
Watt will have many suitors. But could he really pass up the chance to play for the Packers and live near so many Kwik Trip and Culver’s locations? When courting Watt, Green Bay might have a couple of aces up their sleeve.

WIXX's Wisconsin version of 'We Didn't Start the Fire' name-drops AJ Dillon, Spotted Cow, Kwik Trip, Charlie Berens
GREEN BAY – Wisconsin never knew it needed its own version of “We Didn’t Start the Fire,” because it never had one.
Thank WIXX-FM ’s Corey Carter and Huggie for coming up with one that’ll have you singing along to lyrics that name-drop everyone from Screech, Bart Starr and Ryan Braun to Guy Zima, Matt LaFleur and Tom Zalaski — sometimes in the same line.
Fall Out Boy’s current remake of the 1989 Billy Joel classic filled with rapid-fire references to notable events through the decades got Carter, the station’s brand manager, thinking the Badger State was worthy of the same treatment, so he and on-air personality Huggie sat down one day last week and knocked it out.
“Wisconsin Started the Fire” dropped Monday on the longtime Green Bay Top 40 station’s social media platforms with a green and gold lyrics video created by Andrew Haze. It hit the airwaves Tuesday, where it’s in rotation about every four hours.
“Aaron’s gone/Love is in/Kwik Trip be free samplin,’” it begins. “Charlie Berens crackin’ jokes/Kenosha fire full of smoke.”
The list of references covers the state from the Door County peninsula to Rib Mountain to the House on the Rock and a lot of territory in between. It even briefly careens across state lines to take a swipe at the Chicago Bears. Food and drink did not go underrepresented: Spotted Cow, Sun Drop, cheese and cream puffs all get their dues.
A good share of the material came from Carter, because if there’s “a dirty secret of the song,” it’s that the lyrics all make mention of things from the last 13 years — the same amount of time Carter, a Minnesota native, has lived in Wisconsin.
So you’re not going to get the Peshtigo fire of 1871, but remember the time Green Bay Packers linebacker Clay Matthews took a line drive to the face and busted his nose during the 2018 Green & Gold Charity Softball Game? That’s in there.
Don’t tell anybody, but Huggie isn’t from Wisconsin, either. Born and raised in Illinois, he moved to Green Bay in 2022 after Otis Day left the station and now does the midday show from 2 to 6 p.m.
Local headlines like how a section of Leo Frigo Bridge sagged in 2013 and caused Green Bay traffic headaches for months or the mystery of booms in Clintonville in 2012 quickly popped into Carter’s head. What Huggie lacked in historical perspective, he made up for elsewhere.
“I think one of the most brilliant lines in the song was Huggie’s idea,” Carter said. “That was (Packers running back) ‘AJ Dillon’s quadriceps.’”
One of Carter’s favorite things about the song is some of the indirect references that might have people outside of the state scratching their heads.
“But for us in Wisconsin, it almost feels like you’re in this clique, because you know about the giant horse at Mt. Olympus (Water & Theme Park Resort) and you know about goats on roofs (at Al Johnson’s Swedish Restaurant),” Carter said. “There’s all these little things that wouldn’t make sense unless you lived in Wisconsin, and to me that’s really what kind of makes it special.”
‘I think that’s why people are digging it and sharing it and posting it, because they feel a part of it,” Huggie said.
That’s him doing the vocals on the song, all roughly 100 tracks and 27 edits in his home studio. While the songwriting came together in about two hours, the vocals were trickier.
“I had so many edits because Corey kept saying, ‘This is great, this is great, but can you say the name properly?’” Huggie said. “I’m dyslexic, and I don’t really know any of these references, because I’ve only been here a year. I know a handful but whooee, I had to get down! It took me about five hours.”
There was a learning curve on the pronunciation of words like Neshotah Beach and the Polish pastry paczki , but Huggie's talents as a singer give the song a level of credibility it would have lacked if they just had WIXX’s “Murphy in the Morning” crew take a crack at singing it in the studio, Carter said. (No offense to “Murphy in the Morning.” Of course, it’s in the song.)
“I feel like if we wouldn’t have had that element to it, we would’ve come across as a stupid radio station trying too hard to be funny,” Carter said.
But Huggie, who went to college for audio production and engineering, is a legit musician. Before he got into radio, he lived in Los Angeles and wrote some songs with Macy Gray, Ludacris and others. He once played rhythm guitar in a band called the Banjo Boys under the name "Pigpen."
“I’ve been in bands forever. I have so many records nobody is ever going to hear,” Huggie said. “This is how I’m going to get a song on the radio.”

His dad has already given it the stamp of approval.
“He was like, ‘I have no idea what you’re talking about but it sounded really good,'" Huggie said. "He said it was badass.”
For as many references packed into it, Carter knows there would be easily enough to do another song. He wishes, for example, he had squeezed Uncle Mike’s Bake Shoppe kringle in there. But the whole idea of “Wisconsin Started the Fire” was to give people something fun about the state to bounce along with, and that’s already happening.
“I would bet in the next week, everybody in Wisconsin will have heard this,” Carter said.
Next thing you know, Huggie joked, the Packers might be asking him to sing it at Lambeau Field during halftime. Carter said he is just waiting for that first call from a fourth-grade teacher somewhere saying they’re going to use it to teach Wisconsin history in the classroom.

A deep dive into all that's Kwik Trip. Plus Packers in London, the best cheese curds
Insert Onion-style joke headline here: "Kwik Trip unveils plans to build a store in the parking lot of a Kwik Trip."
If you ask someone from outside of Wisconsin what they think of first when they think of Wisconsin, they'll likely respond, Packers, beer and cheese. Ask someone from Wisconsin, and they'll likely think: Packers, beer, cheese and Kwik Trip.
Maybe that's an exaggeration, but it can't be too far off the mark. I mean, Kwik Trips are everywhere in Wisco.

On the subject of Ukraine, Golda Meir, who was born in Kyiv, spent a large portion of her childhood in Wisconsin. Her family fled the anti-Semitic violence and pogroms of eastern Europe in 1906, settling in Milwaukee with the help of the Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society. She attended school and taught at a Yiddish-speaking school in Milwaukee. She moved to a kibbutz in what is now Israel in 1921, became influential in the Zionist movement and signed the Israeli Declaration of Independence in 1948. She was 71 years old in when she became prime minister of Isreal in 1969.

Community members express their concerns about a new Green Bay Kwik Trip
G REEN BAY, Wis. (WBAY) - Violence, traffic, and property values. All concerns from people in a Green Bay neighborhood over a proposed new Kwik Trip.
Construction on the gas station and car wash on West Mason Street could begin next year, taking the place of three buildings. Neighbors expressed mixed feelings about the project.
“Mostly just safety for people who live in the neighborhood concerned about what is going to do to the price of my house,” said Amanda Jones, who lives near the planned site.
“Stop lights, traffic, storm sewer runoff, rats,” said Jim Ridderbush, the president of the Marquette Neighborhood Association.
People who live near West Mason in Green Bay discussed the potential pros and cons of a proposed new Kwik Trip.
“I think it’s a good thing for the neighborhood,” said local resident Marion Olson. “I have a lot of respect for Kwik Trip.”
“My main concern really is the traffic,” Nick Jones, a nearby resident, told us. “I’m just more concerned about the traffic than anything.”
Several dozen people and city leaders met in the site of the former Badger Liquor store Wednesday night to hear from Kwik Trip representatives. The existing buildings on the site would be torn down, making room for a gas station and car wash totaling 11,000 square feet.
“Probably 35 to 45 folks working at the store plus obviously the construction job and the timeline,” said Troy Mleziva, the director of real estate for Kwik Trip. “We plan to be open sometime next year.”
People at the meeting asked questions about the project, saying their worries include the potential for crime, noise, bright lights, pests like rats, and the safety of their children.
“I am for Kwik Trip,” said Jones. “I’m OK with it I think if they address some of the things like a retaining wall to block the housing but other than that, I am just hoping to alleviate some of the traffic issue.”
“It is a nice store to be able to walk to, and I think Kwik Trip will do what they need to do to make it successful,” said Olson.
” Having been here for 50 years, this property has been in the neighborhood for a long time. Change is always different, but hearing their concerns obviously, we want to fit in the neighborhood as well,” said Mleziva.
Neighborhood association leaders want people to keep asking questions.
“This is the first step of the process, there will be several other meetings,” said Ridderbush.
City leaders say there are still several steps left in the process. For one, Kwik Trip still has to submit a site plan for review. That will then have to reach the planning commission and the city council.
Alderman Brian Johnson explained they want to hear from people with concerns so they can make recommendations.
“We don’t have the ability to say ‘We don’t want it here,’ that’s not something permitted by state law, but what we do have is the ability to set conditions on issues,” said Alderman Johnson. “That means we can say we want certain types of lighting we want a fence those are the things we can talk about.”
Cherry Starr, widow of Green Bay Packers legend Bart Starr, has died
GREEN BAY, Wis. (WBAY) - Cherry Starr, the widow of legendary Green Bay quarterback Bart Starr, has passed away. Her son told us she passed peacefully Tuesday morning. She was 89 years old.
Starr made her final trip to Green Bay in 2022 for a Packers Hall of Fame induction ceremony.
At the time, Alan Loux, the president of Rawhide Youth Services, which was founded in part by Bart and Cherry Starr, said it was due to her age, health issues, and the difficulty of making the trip between Green Bay and her home in Birmingham, Alabama.
Before the induction, she visited Rawhide, where she saw the new Starr Youth Home. She attended the groundbreaking in 2021 .
“It was a very emotional day for all of us, knowing that she was proud of what was going on at Rawhide, for something that she and Bart started 57 years ago. And you could just see she was beaming from ear to ear, and she went through the homes and she went through Starr Academy, our school, and talked and hugged the boys and the staff, and it was just pure joy but also emotional,” Loux described.
Rawhide released Cherry Starr’s obituary Tuesday afternoon (as provided to Action 2 News):
On behalf of the Starr family, Rawhide Youth Services is saddened to announce the news of Cherry Starr’s passing on February 27, 2024. Please find below a statement from the Starr family.
Cherry Morton Starr, 89, passed away peacefully at her Birmingham home with her family and close friends at her side. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bart Starr (2019), and her son Bret (1988). She is succeeded by her son Bart Starr, Jr. (Elaena), grandchildren Shannon (Ryan), Jenny, and Lisa, and her six great-grandchildren (Bryan, Teddy, Violet, Dillon, Skyler, and Caden). She was a figurative mother to many more.
Originally from Ohio, she eventually moved to the South, settling in Montgomery, AL, where she attended Sidney Lanier High School. While there, she met her future husband, Bart. Although their personalities were beautifully distinct, they shared, from the beginning, a love for all of mankind and a deep commitment to treat everyone they met with the highest level of dignity and respect.
After attending Auburn University, Cherry married Bart and resided in Tuscaloosa, where they lived until the most important chapter in her life unfolded. She moved to Green Bay, Wisconsin, where Bart pursued a career in football. Immediately she met a group of citizens throughout the state who, for the rest of her life, brought out the best in her and her husband. Hundreds of times she would cite the thousands of individuals in Wisconsin who demonstrated generosity, compassion, empathy, kindness, and hard work. No trip, anywhere, brought her as much joy as returning to Green Bay.
Her love for the Packers and Green Bay only grew stronger, as did her devotion to Rawhide Youth Services, starting in the 1960s and still thriving today. Words cannot express her appreciation towards everyone at Rawhide who has contributed to improving the lives of teenagers who need unconditional love, trust, and confidence. Later, she devoted several decades to helping raise money for cancer research, following the death of Vince Lombardi. That work continues today through the Starr Children’s Fund, thanks to the enormous dedication of those in Milwaukee to support research and physicians in numerous cities.
Upon transitioning to one of those cities, Birmingham, AL, Cherry was further blessed to meet an extraordinary group of individuals who again inspired her to contribute to her community. Every week of her life was filled with stories regarding the gracious and considerate individuals she encountered throughout Birmingham and Alabama.
While we are deeply saddened to lose her, we are filled with ineffable joy regarding what is now taking place, per the last note we wrote to her: “For 65 years you and Dad fell in love with each other every day. And while you have been able to hold close to your heart your sweet memories of him, soon you will be able to experience something miraculous: You will be reunited with your best friend, allowing both of you the opportunity to fall even deeper in love, each day, for eternity.”
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choosing, or to the Bart and Cherry Starr Foundation (2647 Rocky Ridge Lane, Birmingham, AL 35216) which supports the causes noted herein.
A statement from the Green Bay Packers on the passing of Cherry Starr. pic.twitter.com/6w2VcKam8U — Green Bay Packers (@packers) February 27, 2024
Her husband, Bart Starr, passed away on May 26, 2019, at the age of 85.
According to a profile piece in their hometown newspaper in 2016, Bryan Bartlett Starr and Cherry Louise Morton attended Sidney Lanier High School together in Montgomery, Ala., and eloped in 1954 when they were both 20 years old. They kept their marriage a secret for months.
She attended Auburn University but dropped out to follow Bart, who was a quarterback for the University of Alabama. Despite the Crimson Tide’s record at the time, Bart turned down an offer from “Bear” Bryant to play at Kentucky so he could stay close to Cherry.
While speaking at the dedication of the Bart Starr Memorial Bridge in 2021, Cherry recalled a phone call in 1956 that changed their lives forever.
“It was my sweet Bart calling from Stevens Point, Wisconsin, where the Packers were training in those years because they didn’t have a proper training camp here. He said, ‘Honey, pack your bags and get to Green Bay. I have made the team and signed a contract for a whopping $6,500,’” Cherry recalled.
“Things have changed a little since then. It was the beginning of a love affair - not the love affair between Bart and me, although that one lasted 68 years. It was the love he had for the Packers, you fans, this community, and the entire state. If Bart were here today for this beautiful tribute, he would thank you all for your support, especially for Rawhide [Youth Services]. You’ve been so generous. We could not know the success we had today if you hadn’t supported us in such a generous way. And he would express his gratitude for all his teammates.”
Bart Starr became a Packers legend, leading the franchise to an astonishing five NFL titles. The most famous of those games was the 1967 Ice Bowl at Lambeau Field. Starr’s quarterback sneak won the game for the Packers and cemented him in the history of the NFL, Green Bay, and all of sports.
The Starr family has also been a big part of the Rawhide organization from the very beginning. During her visit in 2021, longtime Starr family friend and founder of Rawhide Youth Services John Gillespie remembered the generosity of the Starr family.
Gillespie remembered how he met the Starrs. Gillespie was looking to start Rawhide but needed help. Someone recommended Bart and Cherry Starr. Gillespie called for information and to his surprise was given the home phone number for the Starrs. He called them up and was invited over to the Starr home to pitch what would become the ranch for boys. The Starrs asked him to stay for supper.
“Bart says, ‘What do you need from us?’
“Bart, everything. You gotta help me set up a board, you gotta help me do a nonprofit thing, you gotta help raise money. He turned and he looked at Cherry and I peeked. She didn’t say anything. She did this, ‘Did you see my nod?’ That’s all it was. That was the start of 50 years of their partnering with us,” Gillespie recalls. “Bart turned back and said, ‘I guess we’re on board. Let’s go eat and figure out what we got to do.’
“And the rest is history,” Gillespie said.

WGS 84 coordinate reference system is the latest revision of the World Geodetic System, which is used in mapping and navigation, including GPS satellite navigation system (the Global Positioning System).
Geographic coordinates (latitude and longitude) define a position on the Earth’s surface. Coordinates are angular units. The canonical form of latitude and longitude representation uses degrees (°), minutes (′), and seconds (″). GPS systems widely use coordinates in degrees and decimal minutes, or in decimal degrees.
Latitude varies from −90° to 90°. The latitude of the Equator is 0°; the latitude of the South Pole is −90°; the latitude of the North Pole is 90°. Positive latitude values correspond to the geographic locations north of the Equator (abbrev. N). Negative latitude values correspond to the geographic locations south of the Equator (abbrev. S).
Longitude is counted from the prime meridian ( IERS Reference Meridian for WGS 84) and varies from −180° to 180°. Positive longitude values correspond to the geographic locations east of the prime meridian (abbrev. E). Negative longitude values correspond to the geographic locations west of the prime meridian (abbrev. W).
UTM or Universal Transverse Mercator coordinate system divides the Earth’s surface into 60 longitudinal zones. The coordinates of a location within each zone are defined as a planar coordinate pair related to the intersection of the equator and the zone’s central meridian, and measured in meters.
Elevation above sea level is a measure of a geographic location’s height. We are using the global digital elevation model GTOPO30 .
