My Flight Forecast

Giving you a clear mind, even if it's not clear skies.

Created by pilots, for passengers.

FEAR OF FLYING? LEARN MORE

flyhome

WELCOME TO MYFLIGHT FORECAST™

MyFlight Forecast™ gives you, the passenger, and access to Flying Weather Forecast data that pilots will review prior to every flight. While a pilot will review much more data, data that they've spent years learning to interpret, this site breaks down the most relevant data for the passenger to determine flight conditions, potential flight and airport delays, and most importantly, flight turbulence forecast.

Weather Radar

Reference Weather Radar to determine the location of precipitation (Snow, Rain) and where it is located relative to your flight path. Pilot Tip - Just because you see areas of precipitation, does not mean that you will necesarily be flying through it! You might be miles above it!

Satellite Imagery

Reference the Satellite page to locate clouds, or areas of decreased visibility. While clouds can generally increase the likelihood of turbulence while flying through them, keep in mind, clouds are just moisture, or water. Water is generally not that scary. Not all clouds that appear on the satellite imagery can guarantee areas of turbulence, it greatly depends on the stability of the atmosphere.

Turbulence Forecast

Get your Flying Weather Forecast before and during your flight - receive real time turbulence reports and discover where turbulence has been reported by aircraft currently in-flight

Airport Delays

Type in the three letter identifier (ex. JFK, LAX, ORD) of the airports that you are travelling to and from, and get real time information on any potential airport delays due to; Wind, Visibility, Weather or delays due to volume.

Top 5 airlines flying to the United States

Great experience overall. Check in at Austin was congested as they only have about 6 check in kiosks, one was broken, and there was a lot of Spring Break travelers.

The main person that was coordinating everything was a short white/light skin Spanish man and he was very rude. It honestly made me feel like it was everyone’s First day at work. His announcements were very not reasonable and they did not make sense. The stewardess on the flight that made the announcements she didn’t even know what she was talking about she sounded inebriated. There were no snacks or drinks on our flight there wasn’t even much turbulence. This flight was not enjoyable nor was it what a Delta flight should be and just this past week I flew with Delta 3 times.

The landing was bad and the hostess came two times and i was sleeping but when she served the person that nexts to me I woke up and she didn’t even asked me if I need any drink or snacks two times!!!!

The helpful attitude of the staff, and being a wheelchair passenger everyone was helpful and understanding. The trip was made comfortable by the upgraded seat which was given without my request, that was a great surprise. Thank you Delta.

Mario was great. Made a night flight on a small aircraft pleasant and memorable.

It was great I love flying Delta and have never had a bad experience with them

They were 2 hours late departing with no explanation. I missed my connection, was rebooked not in correct seating that I paid for. Over all of was horrible. I now know why I've not flown Delta since 2018

I love the free wifi and headrest screens. I would consider Delta even more because of this but the seats aren't so great. The snacks aren't very good in my opinion. I bought a Bloody Mary and that was great! So just be comfortable with better snacks and the airline world will be yours.

Crew was not helpful. Other passengers in first class were over served blatantly over intoxicated.

We just spent $6000 on our first trip since pre COVID and we were stranded on the runway of our departing airport for 2 hours and 15 minutes while our layover was only an hour and a half. We were told by the pilot we were next for de-icing and then got bumped by 3 other planes. Pilot went on to say they only had one guy working the de-icing where they usually have at least 2. In Rochester. In the heart of winter. Someone missed a step and should be fired. I'm not done.

Everything was very good. Boarding and takeoff were on time and organized. Had a good flight

Wouldn’t let me check in said couldn’t find a ticket had to wait very long Time

Awful…flight was delayed more than 12hrs, missed all connections to Fort Wayne, IN, had to get flight to another city 2 hours from my destination, flight was again delayed by 40 mins because they did not have enough fuel, again missed a connection, finally arrived in Indiana at 11pm…but before my 2 hour drive home, ay, no Five That Our Luggage Never Made On The plane and Still In Chicago

Other than the two hour delay, it was fine. Of course they were very professional and kept us informed throughout the whole delay..

Wheelchair assistance was not complete. The person left me at the departure gate without informing the groundstaff of my requirements. I had to walk to the departure counter to ask for help to reach the plane door. The crew informed me that in future they were not allowed to help passengers like me, senior citizen and Wheelchair passenger with placing their carry on bags in the overhead compartments!

Crew is way too many times on the intercom re explaining the same thing

Airline did not explain reasons why flight was delayed two hours. Explanations were badly needed and rarely provided. Problem seemed to clearly be the airline’s fault and not the fault of the weather or airport.

The seats were uncomfortable. The flight was almost 9 hours and they didn’t serve lunch

Very uncomfortable seats and seat backs, and I am only 5’9”. Delayed due to crew issues, spent a long time with no ventilation. Teeny overhead bins. Wifi worked well. Arrived safely.

Boarding was friendly and quick. While the plane model was older with no live tv, the entertainment was full of movies and tv shows. All food was available. Pilots were very communicative with status of the flight. Flight landed on time.

My previous flight was late and did not connect properly. The gate was closed and I missed this flight.

This flight was late and did not meet the connecting flight.

5 hour flight - full flight - not enough room to use my computer - slightly delayed - Admirals club was excellent quality food, drink made up for flight seating. No food offerred on flight, you ahd to prebook.

Apart from the delay due to unforeseen circumstances. The leg from sjc to dfw was fine. It was the leg from dfw to orf that we encountered issues mainly due to the flight attendant crew not being friendly. We had two small children and we needed some assistance to warm up milk so the baby would sleep. The crew just didn’t get it and made things very difficult. One made a remark that the baby’s dirty diaper smell was a “gift” to the plane in a rude way. Normally I’d brush that off as a funny comment if the rest of the trip the attendants were helpful or understanding of the difficulty we faced. But that wasn’t the case. We were met with rudeness on the second leg. Whereas on the first leg the crew were so nice and helpful.

Terrible. I hate flying with AA. There is always a high level of stress felt when I fly with them.

Flight From PHX to CVG was on time, very professional staff

The flight was 6 hr late and then they blamed it on the weather. All of the other planes were coming and going fine.

I had the exit seat with all the leg room I could ask for. Great!

Our second leg to Jackson WY was unable to land due to weather. We were flown back to Dallas after stopping in SLC. We were given hotel rooms and vouchers. We were told that we would be back on the same plane in the morning. Instead we were given a different flight with different seats. Not a good experience. No one knew what was going on.

Overall it was good. The plane was small and the flight attendants on the Clt to gso route were not that friendly

I like strict carry on policy. Quick to board, quick to leave. Less time at gate and get there quicker

We booked a direct flight. Spirit changed the flight to have a 9 hour overnight layover. Not pleased.

My flight was cancelled and I am stranded in another state

The crew was great but it felt gross how spirit charges you for every little thing. Picking your seat should be free (first come first served). Beverages and food I get. But picking where I sit? Gross.

Cancelled my flight , currently stuck in Houston and will likely miss my cruise

Had to board plan 2x due to lack of security check after 1st boarding

Desk staff at gate were helpful. Didn't have a plane until after scheduled departure time - no explanation offered while we waited. Seats are uncomfortable - arm rests are metal and uncomfortable in a narrow seat. No food, drinks or entertainment unless purchased. They charge a huge price for carryon luggage. Flight was good.

The flight attendants were very personable, extremely friendly, and had a very good feeling of the energy around them not to mention they’re very funny and engaging. What made up for the discomfort of the seats and the fact that the plane sat for a long time on the Turmac. Not sure if the pilot was new, but the landing was very rough sort of like I was at a magic mountain theme park ride that was built in 1959

Bad weather is one thing but repeatedly changing gates AND terminals after several hours of delays was horrible. Additionally after the long delays, gate agents were delaying us evening further by being overly picky with personal item bag sizes. Get a grip.

Unfortunately not great, my flight was canceled with no notice given. I attempted to reach out to spirit airlines and have yet to receive any correspondence. I then had to book a new flight at two times the cost of the original.

Everything was good, 20/30 minutes late waiting on a crew member. It’s hard to keep employees. Or serious employees I know. I remember one flight from Houston of Frontiers was almost 18 hours late. And another 4 hours late very poor. But I would rather be late and safe than the on the news. Thank you.

Well, I didn’t have food! So NA wasn’t an option. I’ll be back!

Bought seats on the flight and they were supposed to be 2 and a jumpseat. Plane clearly changed and it was a regular 3 seat row. Asked for a refund and was denied. If I wanted to sit next to someone else I wouldn't have bought the seats..

I dunno. Depressing, uncomfortable (I’m poor), but on time and efficient.

Everything was good, and most importantly on time. They have been extremely tardy in some of my flights

First time flying with Frontier . From buying tickets ,getting boarding pass and boarding plane was super easy. Definitely would fly again with Frontier .

The check in at the airport was awful. Told I need to pay for a bag. The item was taken at screening. I went back to get my $ back and they gave me a coupon with a QR code that doesn’t work. Worst costumer service ever!!!!!

Our flight was on time and unremarkable which I'm grateful for, as it is not the norm traveling these days. Frontier is a low-cost carrier and it really shows when compared to other "normal" carriers. They don't even give you water during the flight. The coach seats are decent, however it was not as clean as it should be. We had crumbs all over the floor by our seats.

Flying frontier reminded me of flying with my family in the 80’s in all of the worst ways possible. From poor customer service to little to no technology. The plane was dirty old and also stuck in the 80’s. From their seatbelts to not having anywhere to charge our phones the seats and the equipment I wasn’t sure if I was being punked or thrown back in time. Needless to say I don’t see myself flying frontier ever again.

4 hour delay because they used our aircraft to fly a different segment (per the captain)

Air travelers face flight delays, cancellations this holiday weekend

Holiday travel

Delta Airlines will allow travelers to reschedule flights free of charge this weekend — anticipating “operational problems” during the Fourth of July holiday.

If cancellations are in store, the airline will have company. According to Thrifty Traveler, since yesterday, American Airlines has canceled more than 500 flights, and United Airlines more than 200.

To make sense of the mess, host Cathy Wurzer spoke with Gunnar Olson — a flight deal analyst and travel reporter at Thrifty Traveler.

Below is a transcript of their conversation that has been edited for length and clarity. Use the audio player above to listen to the full conversation.

Are the cancelations and Delta’s free rescheduling offer a sign of trouble ahead?

We definitely think so. And I think Delta's waiver that they announced yesterday is them kind of admitting that there's going to be logistical challenges at our airports all across the country this weekend.

Delta has been complaining of staffing shortages. It said it would cut 100 flights a day. Is that still a factor here?

Definitely. I think what has happened in the last month is they have not been able to staff up to pre-pandemic levels. That means that their routes, their network around the country is going to be disrupted because travel demand is as high as it was before the pandemic.

So everyone is taking back to the skies. But there's not enough people above and below the wing to staff those routes right now. So I think that's going to lead to some of this pain that they're expecting this weekend, and that we've been seeing over the last couple of weekends.

What are airlines doing to find workers?

The airlines are doing whatever they can to find workers within their own ranks and from other airlines. The smaller regional carriers, some of which fly under the Delta flag, for instance, are having some of their staff taken up to the main Delta carrier. So some of those smaller routes are having issues with their staffing, and it's kind of as those people trickle up.

But I know, all the airlines have made a big point of making sure that they're hiring pilots quickly. There are some hurdles as far as training hours, the amount of time that pilots need in order to safely fly all of these airlines. But right now they're staffing up as quickly as they can.

So airlines are cutting flights to balance staffing, and as they say, they hope to increase reliability, but that doesn't seem to be happening.

Right. The free change waiver that Delta has just issued for this weekend — they typically reserved these things for storms, weather events, whether it be thunderstorms or snowstorms, other inclement weather that's impacting flights. This is a very different kind of storm for them and one that they're not going to be able to ride out very easily. So they're bracing for this. They're hiring as fast as they can. But I think for this summer, we can expect there to be at least some disruptions.

What's this doing to Delta's brand, and really to trust for the industry as a whole?

For Delta in particular, they've prided themselves for a long time on being the on-time carrier, reliability has been so big for them and a huge part of their brand. And they've been able to do that because they build slack into their system. There are pilots, flight attendants, there are people waiting at their major hubs to fill in on canceled flights. Without that slack, Delta has become pretty much just like every other airline.

You know, we're seeing Delta lead the way and cancellations last weekend. They also had a big meltdown over Memorial Day weekend. I know people, especially in the Twin Cities area and in Minnesota, still love Delta because of the connectivity here out of the MSP hub. But it's definitely something to look at. Their reputation has taken a little bit of a hit. But obviously they're not alone here. So many airlines are dealing with the same issues, Delta because of their reputation as a reliable carrier, probably just a little more so.

And as all this is happening, ticket prices have increased more than 45 percent since January. And the flying experience seems as though it's bad as it's ever been. How do the ticket prices fold into all of this?

We are seeing on average ticket prices are much higher than they used to be. The demand is back for travel, people are ready to fly. And this summer, people are proving that they're willing to pay just about anything to fly. That's not to say that there aren’t really good deals out there. You know, airfare is ultimately a competitive business. And on the routes, where there's lots of competition between airlines, we're still finding some really good low airfare.

But it's definitely expensive. If you're going to your cousin's wedding for a weekend this summer, it's probably going to cost you. But as we look out into fall, things are a little bit more normal than we're seeing. So if you can stomach saving your trip until September, October, November, there's plenty of good deals out there. We're finding them every day. But there's no doubt there's a little bit of pain as far as your wallet when we're flying this summer.

What deals are you're seeing this summer?

We've seen a lot of value on flights internationally. I think the best value is going to be to Lisbon, Portugal and not to Los Angeles. The domestic airfare is sky high right now. There's so much demand for people to get around the country. But if you look overseas, you're actually gonna find some really good value.

All throughout the summer we found great flight deals to Europe flying. So think about Ireland's Aer Lingus, Portugal's TAP, Scandinavia SAS, Icelandair which flies in and out of Minneapolis too. There's a lot of value on those carriers. And they have some nonstop flights to which people are obviously interested in right now, you don't want to make a connection if you can avoid it at this point so you don't get delayed or canceled.

We've seen some eye popping stuff, I mean, down to Cape Town, South Africa, from Minneapolis for less than $600 round trip. And that's a record low from Minneapolis. So there's lots of stuff out there, if you're willing to leave the country. And without the return testing requirement, it's a little bit easier to do so than it was before.

For folks hoping to travel this weekend, how do you prepare for something like this?

There are some quick and easy tips, we actually have some on our website at thriftytraveler.com , you can read all of them. But the best thing to do, especially if you're flying Delta, is take advantage of this waiver and go change your flight and pick the very first flight of the day.

The early flight is much less prone to cancellations and delays as the day goes on. There's a ripple effect of cancellations and delays where the crews that need to be in Minneapolis for your next flight might not be able to get there because of their cancellation, and so on and so forth.

So go book that early flight with this travel waiver, you won't have to pay for the change fee. There's no fare difference applied to either. Like I mentioned before, fly nonstop, if you can. I know that's easier said than done in some cases but the more flights you take, the better your chances are for getting disrupted. And then otherwise, just some simple things we usually recommend: Don't check a bag. This is especially so right now, the bag drop line at the airport, especially at MSP right now. That's the worst pinch point in your travel experience. We've seen people waiting up to an hour just to get their bag on the conveyor belt and that's before they even get to the security line. Plus, airlines are losing bags at record levels, partially due to these staffing concerns. So don't chance it if you can avoid it, control your own destiny.

And then finally, get to the airport early. I love the memes of people making fun of dads who are a little overzealous and getting the airport early, but I think dad's gonna be vindicated this weekend. It's just good advice to take your time get there early.

Biden Administration Warns That Government Shutdown Could Disrupt Air Travel

If the government shuts down, air traffic controllers and Transportation Security Administration officers will continue to work, but they will not be paid until the shutdown is over.

Reporting from Washington

Follow our live updates for a potential government shutdown .

The Biden administration offered new warnings on Wednesday that a government shutdown could disrupt the nation’s air travel system, part of an effort to lay blame at the feet of House Republicans ahead of a possible funding lapse this weekend.

Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg said that a shutdown would jeopardize the work the administration has done to address a shortage in air traffic controllers, modernize aviation technology and reduce flight delays and cancellations that have plagued travelers.

“There is no good time for a government shutdown, but this is a particularly bad time for a government shutdown, especially when it comes to transportation,” Mr. Buttigieg said at a news conference at the Transportation Department’s headquarters. “The consequences would be disruptive and dangerous.”

Government funding will expire at midnight on Saturday if Congress does not agree on a stopgap spending measure by then. House Republicans have been unable to resolve a standoff with far-right lawmakers in their ranks, and Mr. Buttigieg assailed those lawmakers for bringing the government within days of a shutdown.

If funding lapses, federal workers will be furloughed or forced to work without pay . Air traffic controllers and Transportation Security Administration officers would continue to work, but they would not be paid until the shutdown ends.

Hours before Mr. Buttigieg spoke, the White House issued a news release with a state-by-state breakdown of the roughly 13,000 air traffic controllers and 50,000 T.S.A. officers who would have to work without pay. The news release warned that an “extreme Republican shutdown,” as the White House has taken to describing it, risked causing delays for travelers.

A shutdown could also disrupt the government’s efforts to address an existing shortage of air traffic controllers, which has already resulted in cutbacks to flight schedules at airports in the New York City area. The coronavirus pandemic forced a pause in training for new controllers at the Federal Aviation Administration’s academy in Oklahoma City, drying up the pipeline of new workers, and a shutdown would put a halt to training once again.

Separate from the potential funding lapse, the F.A.A. could face further disruption because Congress also faces a deadline on Saturday to pass legislation reauthorizing the agency, and lawmakers could miss that deadline, too.

Air traffic controllers and T.S.A. agents were forced to work without pay during the 35-day partial government shutdown in late 2018 and early 2019, and the effects on the nation’s air travel system drew significant attention as the weeks passed.

The T.S.A. saw an increase in unscheduled absences , resulting in longer wait times at security checkpoints at some airports. And on what ended up being the last day of the shutdown, staffing shortages at two air traffic control facilities caused significant flight delays in the Northeast. President Donald J. Trump agreed to reopen the government later that day.

Rich Santa, the president of the National Air Traffic Controllers Association, a union, said on Wednesday that controllers would continue coming to work during a shutdown. He said controllers were committed to doing everything they could to keep the nation’s airspace safe and limit disruptions for travelers.

Still, he said that stressors brought on by a shutdown, such as working without pay, could take a toll. “Being delayed out of your airport is a real possibility,” he said.

Frequently asked questions

  • Wherever you’re traveling, flying can be a relaxing experience if you’re properly prepared. Firstly, pack your passport, travel documents and medications. Next, toss in some extra in-flight entertainment to help the time fly by. A juicy novel and a tablet filled with the latest movies are some fantastic options. If you want to get some shut-eye, a quality neck pillow and noise-canceling headphones are also worth bringing along.
  • It also pays to check with your airline regarding what you can’t take on board your flight. Swords, batons, box cutters, razor blades and knives are among the prohibited items. Anything flammable, sharp or explosive is generally not allowed in your carry-on bag. Be sure to pack any sports equipment like baseball bats or tennis rackets in your checked luggage.
  • Whether traveling short or long-haul, layering up is key to a comfy flight. Choose loose, breathable fabrics that will keep you cool and bring a sweater to cope with any in-flight temperature changes. Your feet will be happy in a pair of sneakers or flat shoes.
  • Lessen your risk of developing deep vein thrombosis (DVT), a blood clotting condition which can be caused by sitting for lengthy periods, by regularly walking around the cabin. Alternatively, do some gentle lower limb exercises in your seat. If you’re at higher risk of developing DVT, think about wearing compression socks.

Flight cancellations to trend upward throughout the weekend

Aug. 4, 2023 8:07 AM PDT

flight travel this weekend

Thunderstorms can ignite across portions of the central Plains Saturday. Some of these storms can turn severe and can cause flight cancellations at airports such as Kansas City. Thunderstorm activity can also stretch farther north across portions of the northern Plains. A few thunderstorms can also occur across portions of the Southeast, although these are likely to be subsevere.

The thunderstorm threat will shift to the Mississippi and Ohio valleys Sunday, with Chicago the most likely to be impacted with cancellations from thunderstorms. Thunderstorms will try to move into the Detroit region by the end of the day. St. Louis is also likely to receive some late-afternoon and evening thunderstorms that could lead to some cancellations. Storms are also likely to erupt in much of the Southeast Sunday, impacting places like Orlando, Miami and Atlanta.

Flight cancellations are forecast to increase Monday, as there will be the potential for strong to severe thunderstorms to move from the Ohio Valley to the I-95 corridor. These storms can impact major airports such as Detroit, Philadelphia and the New York City area airports. The timing of these storms will be very important. If the storms trend slightly slower, then most of the major airports could potentially avoid significant delays during the busy portions of the day.

Thunderstorms will be on the prowl across much of the East Coast Friday and could impact the airports along the I-95 corridor from Boston to Washington, D.C. At this time, it looks like these storms could move in just after the evening commute as the number of flights start to decrease for the day. Farther south, while thunderstorms will be around in the Southeast, it appears they will stay away from airports in Atlanta, Charlotte, Orlando and Miami.

As we move into the weekend, flight cancellations are likely to occur around the Denver region Saturday afternoon. While much of the thunderstorm activity will take place outside of the other major airport hubs, any storm that does happen to make it into Chicago in the late afternoon and early evening hours could lead to an uptick in cancellations. Other areas to watch Saturday will be in Florida, especially Orlando and Miami if any thunderstorms that do occur in the afternoon get close to the airports. The thunderstorm threat will shift to the Mississippi and Ohio valleys Sunday, with Chicago the most likely to be impacted with cancellations from thunderstorms. Thunderstorms will try to move into the Detroit region by the end of the day. St. Louis is likely to also receive some late-afternoon and evening thunderstorms that could lead to some cancellations. Afternoon and evening thunderstorms around Denver will be monitored as well for possible cancellations through this weekend and into early next week.

Thunderstorms can lead to flight cancellations across the Northeast today, including in Boston, Albany and New York City. Soaking thunderstorms across Florida could lead to impacts in Miami and Orlando. Minneapolis could see cancellations during the afternoon and evening as strong thunderstorms roll through.

A corridor from Omaha to Chicago and Detroit could have thunderstorms leading to canceled flights Friday. This area of concern can shift south and east for Saturday, bringing the threat for canceled flights from the Ohio Valley into the Northeast, including in Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, New York City and Boston. Thunderstorms could lead to flight cancellations and delays across the Florida Peninsula through the weekend. Denver could also be a concern with late-afternoon and evening storms on a daily basis into early next week.

Flight cancellations likely in major Midwest, Northeast hubs

By Brandon Buckingham, AccuWeather meteorologist

Jul. 26, 2023 9:12 AM PDT

Top airport hubs at risk for flight cancellations Wednesday include Detroit , Chicago and Miami . Severe thunderstorms in Detroit can cancel late-afternoon flights.

The thunderstorms that can cancel flights in the Midwest on Wednesday will shift into the Northeast Thursday. Airport hubs along the Interstate-95 corridor, including Boston and New York City , can face cancellations in the afternoon due to thunderstorms.

Thunderstorms in South Florida will also pose a risk for cancellations.

Late in the day on Thursday, thunderstorms can fire up in the Midwest, increasing the risk for cancellations in places like Minneapolis. During the day on Friday, thunderstorms will pose a risk for cancellations in Chicago, Minneapolis , Detroit and in Miami . Saturday’s flight cancellation risk will focus across the Northeast as rain and thunderstorms move through the region.

Major travel delays to mount at New York City airports over coming hours

Jul. 25, 2023 3:18 PM PDT

As AccuWeather meteorologists had accurately forecast, severe thunderstorms have developed across parts of the northeastern United States . As these thunderstorms slowly move to the east over the coming hours, delays and cancellations can quickly increase at major airports, including Newark Liberty International Airport, John F. Kennedy International Airport and LaGuardia Airport.

“Pack your patience!” AccuWeather Chief Meteorologist Jon Porter warned. “People with flights scheduled at these airports into the evening should anticipate a challenging situation at the airports.”

“Additionally, delays and cancellations at these major hubs can quickly cascade to other parts of the county as airplanes and crews may be substantially delayed and not be in the correct place for later planned flights,” Porter added.

In addition to the risk of major delays at the airports, ground travel can be delayed and can even be dangerous in some areas, as thunderstorms can produce damaging wind, hail and flash flooding. AccuWeather forecasters urge motorists to avoid driving on roads covered by water as the depth of water can be deceiving and the speed with which it moves can add to the dangers. Even 6 inches of fast-flowing water is enough to move a car.

Storms in the Northeast, mid-Atlantic to cause some cancellations

Jul. 25, 2023 8:19 AM PDT

Another active day of thunderstorms Tuesday from Washington, D.C. northward to the New York City area can cause flight cancellations throughout the day. Although the Northeast will dry out Wednesday, some cancellations can occur around O’Hare due to thunderstorms. As parts of the Midwest and Northeast turn more active again Friday into Saturday, there could be another uptick in cancellations before they drop off heading into the end of the weekend.

Thunderstorms with gusty winds and downpours will once again develop along the I-95 corridor on Monday and Tuesday, causing delays and cancellations for Washington, D.C., Philadelphia and the New York City area airports . The number of cancellations should wane on Wednesday as much of the nation turns hot but less active in terms of thunderstorms. There could be another spike in cancellations late in the week as more storms are possible in the Northeast and Midwest.

Heavy and locally gusty thunderstorms can lead to cancellations across the Southeast on Saturday. Air travelers in Atlanta and Jacksonville could encounter delays. In the Midwest, spotty storms during the afternoon could lead to impacts in Minneapolis .

Thunderstorms across the Southeast could cause disruptions in places such as Jacksonville, Orlando and Miami through the weekend , and potentially into early next week as well. Meanwhile, relatively quiet weather conditions should allow for limited impacts across the Northeast over the weekend. However, the return of storms could produce cancellations early next week.

Florida airports recover after hectic weekend of delays, cancellations

A irports across Florida were clogged with weary passengers this weekend, when thunderstorms to the north caused widespread delays during the state’s busiest travel season.

By 6 p.m. Saturday, roughly half of the 650 arriving or departing flights at Tampa International Airport had been delayed. About 7,000 passengers had flights pushed or rescheduled for Sunday, when there were another 19 cancellations and 350 delays.

With the overflow passengers from the prior day, a total of 97,000 passengers passed through Tampa International on Sunday — the highest number in the airport’s history.

“We expected a record weekend and we did have a record weekend, but it was obviously marred by all the delays and cancellations due to the weather that we had north of us,” said Emily Nipps, a spokesperson for the Hillsborough County Aviation Authority.

Tampa International had anticipated an especially busy spring break, Nipps said. During this time in a typical year, the airport sees between 80,000 and 90,000 passengers pass through each day. But after seeing more than 90,000 passengers one day in late February, Nipps said it was clear traffic would be even higher in 2024.

Then the storms hit. Severe thunderstorms moved across southeast Georgia and northeast Florida over the weekend, blocking the passage of many flights heading in or out of the state.

“It makes for a very busy weekend for everyone involved,” Nipps said. “There are more bags, more people buying coffee, more people using the restrooms, more people at the airport for longer periods of time.”

The Federal Aviation Administration has also implemented “flow control programs,” Nipps said, to limit congestion in the sky. She noted such measures would have been taken anyway, with the number of spring breakers flying into the state.

The pinch was felt by airports across Florida. Over the weekend, FlightAware — which tracks flight information — logged more than 1,400 delays for flights going in or out of Orlando International Airport, and more than 150 cancellations. There were more than 1,200 delays and 121 cancellations for flights going in or out of Miami International for the same time period.

Angela Starke, a spokesperson for Orlando International Airport, said the facility hasn’t had additional delays since the weekend, and passengers are working with their individual airlines.

“Based on conversations with our airline partners, all passengers who were impacted by the weather delays and cancellations have been rebooked,” she said in a statement. “We are fully staffed and have been for several days now in anticipation of Spring Break travel.”

At TPA, passengers on canceled flights from Saturday and Sunday continued to be rebooked Monday. While delays were still elevated — about 13% of all flights going in or out of TPA — Nipps said operations were starting to return to normal.

WEATHER ALERT

A rip current statement in effect for Coastal Volusia Region

Orlando’s airport back on track after weekend mess, but what about the rest of spring break, travel hacks to get you through spring break.

Erik von Ancken , Anchor/Reporter

ORLANDO, Fla. – Spring break crowds, bad weather and crowded skies all combined this past weekend to produce a major travel mess at the Orlando International Airport.

From Saturday night to Sunday night, 351 flights were delayed, most of them Southwest Airlines planes and 133 flights were canceled, according to MCO’s website.

By Monday morning, delays and cancellations had vastly improved with airlines getting back on track. But this is just the beginning. Three of the top 10 busiest spring break travel days fall on this upcoming weekend, according to MCO.

Southwest Airlines spokesperson Chris Perry said Southwest has the “largest percent of market share at Orlando with nearly 160 scheduled departures on Sundays in March and 180 scheduled departures on Saturdays in March.”

“Those figures represent our peak schedule at MCO to boost service for spring break travelers,” Perry said. “Over the past weekend, weather and air traffic flow programs affected the national airspace system, with specific attention on Florida, resulting in service disruptions for all air carriers. To protect our entire network of travelers – by far the largest domestic network in the airline industry – on the first weekend of spring break, we made some schedule adjustments to our Orlando operation. Our operations are normal today across our network with minimal disruption at this time. We thank our customers for their patience over the weekend and our employees continue to work tirelessly to connect them to what’s important in their lives.”

Angela Starke, MCO Senior Vice President of Public Affairs and Community Relations, said a “strong line of storms across the Gulf affected departures and arrivals.”

“Passengers who were impacted by the weather are working with their individual airlines,” Starke said. “Based on conversations with our airline partners, all passengers who were impacted by the weather delays and cancellations have been rebooked. We are fully staffed and have been for several days now in anticipation of spring break travel.”

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has been notoriously short-staffed, especially in Air Traffic Control towers, often leading to limiting airspace traffic and adding to delays.

What is the FAA doing about the cascading delays?

News 6 asked FAA Public Affairs Specialist Crystal Essiaw three questions:

  • What does the FAA see as the problem this weekend?
  • For the traveling public planning to fly over Spring Break, does the FAA anticipate this will persist or improve over the next few weeks?
  • And what can the traveling public do about it, if anything?

Essaiw responded with a single sentence:

“For real-time air traffic updates please see: https://nasstatus.faa.gov/ .” Essaiw did not respond to a follow-up email from News 6.

So what can you do?

Experts at Going.com , a travel site dedicated to helping people save on airfare, offered these travel hacks:

Before traveling if you can:

  • Look to take a morning flight as morning flights have a 25 percentage point higher on-time arrival than afternoon or evening flights since things like weather and late planes can affect your trip as the day goes on.
  • Try to fly direct when possible since dealing with delayed direct flights is far easier -- you just get to your destination later. If you get delayed on a connection, there may not be tons of options left for you to reposition yourself.

Day of travel:

  • Don’t wait to start seeing what your options are once you hear the flight is significantly delayed or canceled since it is first come first serve for rebooking. When everyone jumps in the customer service line, you do as well, but you also check to see what other flight options are to have handy and even self-change if the option is available through the airline app or website.
  • Call the international phone line for the airlines if available. While everyone is flooding the domestic line, you can often get through to an agent on an alternate international line where those customer service agents will help you just the same.

Starke encouraged passengers “to check with their airline to determine if their flight will depart/arrive on time” and offered these tips:

  • Follow 3-2-1. Arrive at your airline ticket counter at least 3 hours in advance. Head to security processing at least 2 hours prior to departure and arrive at your gate at least 1 hour prior to boarding. Also, always remember to pack your patience and never bring weapons through the security checkpoint.
  • As MCO continues to welcome record numbers of travelers, parking can be at a premium. A portion of the passenger increase is attributed to local residents. Population growth in Central Florida means more residents are using the airport. This increase has emphasized the need for more parking. MCO has three new surface lots to respond to parking needs. The lots are accessible with E-Pass and SunPass Plus. SunPass customers must be enrolled with Easy Pay, and a transponder must be used to enter and exit the lots.
  • Lastly, a new Reserved Parking program works by allowing passengers to log in to Reserved Parking at MCO or use the MCO mobile app in advance of their arrival to the airport, punch in their vehicle information, make a payment and receive a QR code for easy access to Level 4 of Parking Garage C. Currently, the program is only operational in Garage C on Level 4. Space is limited and on a first-come, first-served basis for approximately 715 spots during the rollout of this program. The cost is $32 per day.

MCO said nearly 200,000 passengers will pass through the airport every day from now through Easter. MCO predicted the busiest-ever spring break travel period after a record-setting 2023.

Late last year, the Federal Department of Transportation fined Southwest Airlines a record $140 million, largely to send a message after Southwest’s meltdown in 2022.

The DOT said $90 million of that fine is supposed to go towards reimbursing Southwest passengers for future delays, if the airline is at fault.

Unfortunately weather doesn’t count.

TSA is prepared for a busy spring break travel season, expects travel volumes at nearly 6% above 2023

WASHINGTON – As spring break travelers prepare for their vacation getaways, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is up for the challenge and is offering practical tips to help them plan for a smooth journey as they go through the security checkpoint and take to the skies. The busy peak spring break travel season begins around March 7 and continues through March 25.

“TSA screened a record number of passengers in 2023, and we expect that trend to continue this year,” said TSA Administrator David Pekoske. “So far in 2024, travel volumes are trending at nearly 6% above the same period in 2023. We always work closely with our airline and airport partners to plan for and meet the increasing travel demand while doing our best to maintain our wait times of 30 minutes or less in standard lanes and 10 minutes or less in TSA PreCheck ® lanes.”

TSA knows travelers put a lot of time and effort into planning the perfect spring break getaway, so we are providing the following tips and tricks to help make sure your special trip gets off to a great start:

Pack smart and remember the 3-1-1 rule. Make sure to start with an empty bag to avoid packing any prohibited items. If you’re heading to the beach, you may wonder how to pack your sunscreen. Any liquids, sunscreen containers and alcohol over 3.4 ounces must be packed in a checked bag. Liquids, aerosols, gels, creams and pastes are allowed in carry-on bags as long as each item is 3.4 ounces or less and placed in one quart-sized bag. Each passenger is limited to one quart-size bag of liquids, aerosols, gels, creams and pastes.

Unloaded firearms must be packed in a locked, hard-sided case in checked baggage only and must be declared to the airline. Travelers who bring firearms or other weapons to the security checkpoint face consequences . To avoid delays, passengers should search TSA’s “ What Can I Bring? ” webpage.

Be checkpoint ready and bring a valid ID. Arrive at the checkpoint with a mobile or printed boarding pass and readily available valid ID . Listen closely to and follow instructions from TSA officers for guidance through the screening process. At many checkpoints, you may be asked to insert your physical ID into one of our Credential Authentication Technology (CAT) units, where a boarding pass is not needed. Nearly 30 airports have a second generation of CAT, called CAT-2, which adds a camera with optional facial recognition technology and smartphone reader. This technology better detects fraudulent IDs. Passengers who do not want their photos taken may ask the TSA officer for a manual ID check without losing their place in line. For more information on how TSA is using facial recognition technology, see our TSA Facial Recognition Technology Fact Sheet . Starting May 7, 2025, every air traveler 18 years of age and older must have a REAL ID -compliant driver’s license or another acceptable form of ID to fly within the United States. 2024 is a good time to get your REAL ID. Contact your state DMV for more information.

Enroll in TSA PreCheck ® . Enjoy the benefits of faster checkpoint screening with a TSA PreCheck membership. Traveling with kids? Teenagers aged 17 and under may accompany TSA PreCheck-enrolled parents or guardians through TSA PreCheck screening lanes when traveling on the same reservation and when the TSA PreCheck indicator appears on the teen’s boarding pass. Children 12 and under may still accompany an enrolled parent or guardian through the TSA PreCheck lanes any time, without restriction. Most new enrollees receive a Known Traveler Number (KTN) within five days, and membership lasts for five years. TSA PreCheck starts at $78 for a five-year membership. That’s about $15.60 per year. Online renewals are $70. Don’t delay. Enroll in TSA PreCheck today.

Arrive early and please be patient. Spring break travelers should give themselves plenty of time to account for traffic, parking, rental car returns, airline check-in, security screening and making any airport purchases before boarding a flight. The airport environment can be stressful. Remain patient, and remember everyone around you is also on their own journey. Passengers who engage in unruly behavior at the checkpoint, the gate area or inflight may face substantial penalties and possible prosecution on criminal charges.

Call ahead to request passenger support. Travelers or families of passengers with disabilities and/or medical conditions may call the TSA Cares helpline toll-free at 855-787-2227 with any questions about screening procedures and to find out what to expect at the security checkpoint. If you call at least 72 hours prior to travel, TSA Cares also arranges assistance at the checkpoint for travelers with specific needs. For more information, visit the TSA Cares website .

Ask TSA before you travel. Contact TSA over social media by sending a message to @AskTSA on X or Facebook Messenger. Passengers may also send a text directly to 275-872 (“AskTSA”) on any mobile device. An automated virtual assistant is available 24/7 to answer commonly asked questions, and AskTSA staff are available 365 days a year from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. ET for more complicated questions. Travelers may also reach the TSA Contact Center at 866-289-9673 from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. ET on weekdays and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. ET on weekends/holidays. An automated service is available 24/7.

TSA encourages all passengers to remain vigilant. If You See Something. Say Something ® . Those traveling abroad for spring break should check the U.S. Customs and Border Protection Know Before You Go page to learn about required documentation.

Travel + Leisure / Tyler Roeland

Travel expertise is something that can only be gained over time, and seeing as flight attendants quite literally spend their days in the sky, it’s safe to say that they’ve developed the know-how to navigate air travel with ease. So, it only makes sense that when they recommend products, we’re going to listen — and they have no shortage of suggestions .

Thankfully, Amazon is a treasure trove of affordable travel gear, with many products earning a backing from air travel savants. Whether you’re seeking a high-quality carry-on for avoiding checked bag fees, or sneaky ways to make your next long-haul flight more comfortable , these 10 flight attendant-loved products start at $9 and will fill those gaps in your travel arsenal. Take it from the pros: you can never be too prepared.

Eagle Creek Pack-It Original Compression Packing Cubes

Traveling with packing cubes is the best way to make the most of the limited space available in your suitcase, and nobody knows this to be true better than flight attendants. So, when we saw that one airline worker raved that these “compact and expandable” cubes have proven to be “perfect for making your luggage go farther,” we took note.

These compression packing cubes are made from a durable yet lightweight material, complete with breathable mesh paneling to ensure that your clothes never get stuffy while tucked away, and they even flatten out to an impressive degree to optimize the room in your luggage. Top carrying handles make these bags easy to remove from your suitcase or backpack without tugging, and a two-way zipper creates an all-around smooth packing experience. Plus, if you’re searching for a set with more than two cubes, flight attendants have also thrown their recommendation behind this expansive set of eight cubes from Veken .

Travelpro Maxlite 5 Softside Expandable Carry-On

If there’s one person to take luggage recommendations from, it’s a flight attendant. And while this expandable carry-on suitcase from Travelpro has earned an impressive 9,000-plus five-star ratings at Amazon, it’s also earned a stamp of approval from airline workers as well. Case in point, one flight attendant dubbed this the “best lightweight suitcase” for travel, explaining that the compact design “can fit on any sized plane” with ease. And as a longtime fan of the brand, they even noted that you can trust that this model will “last you a long time.”

This softside suitcase expands up to an additional 2 inches to maximize space, and four smooth, multi-directional spinner wheels ensure that you’ll have an easy time carrying this bag along airport floors and cobblestone streets. Plus, it’s so lightweight that you won’t have to worry about luggage restrictions while traveling with this carry-on.

Apple AirTag 4-Pack

If you’re worried about your checked bag getting lost while traveling (who isn’t?), flight attendants confirm that shoppers should stock up on a set of Apple AirTags to reclaim their peace of mind while on the go. These small yet mighty trackers have earned more than a staggering 94,500 five-star ratings at Amazon, with one flight attendant sharing that they tuck one into their bag whenever they need to check it, and have found them to be “super easy to use and definitely worth the money.” The best part is, when you’re not traveling, you can simply transfer the AirTag to your favorite purse or wallet to keep an eye on your everyday belongings.

Charmking Unisex Compression Socks

Swelling and discomfort while flying is unfortunately fairly common thanks to the change of cabin pressure once your plane takes to the sky, which is exactly why flight attendants swear by a good pair of compression socks for maintaining healthy circulation during long-haul flights. This set of socks is a best-seller at Amazon for a reason, as each pair is made from a thick and comfy nylon and spandex blend to promote blood flow and reduce fatigue to allow for an overall more comfortable flight. And with more than 49,000 five-star ratings to back them up (as well as a handful from flight attendants ), we’re sold.

Accmor Luggage Travel Cup Holder

Any good traveler knows that keeping your hands free is the easiest way to alleviate stress while hustling to your gate. Therefore, it only stands to reason that this packable cup holder will be a fan-favorite of flight attendants — especially since it simply slides over your luggage handle for quick access to your phone, beverages, travel documents, and more. Two spacious compartments are the ideal places to store your coffee and water bottle while heading to your flight, so you’ll never have to juggle your travel necessities again. Not to mention that one airline worker called it “flight attendant-approved,” explaining that they “travel almost every day with a hot tea or coffee,” and this product effectively keeps their hands free “in the terminal and at the gates.”

Jisulife Handheld Mini Fan

Multi-functional products are practically made for streamlining your travels, and this three-in-one fan from Jisulife will prove to be just that as the weather grows warmer and you begin to look forward to your spring adventures. Not only is this pocket-sized device a flight attendant-loved fan, but it even works as both a portable charger and a flashlight, securing its spot in your travel arsenal moving forward.

It will especially come in handy if your plane cabin is airing on the warmer side, with one flight attendant explaining that this fan has “saved me so many times.” They noted that “in the summer, the back of the aircraft can get extra hot,” and this fan helped keep them “cool” despite it all. In fact, they even went as far as to say that they “don’t leave home without it.”

Vigoport Luggage Hook Straps

Traveling with more than one piece of luggage may feel like a hassle, but those days are over thanks to these flight attendant-approved luggage strap hooks from Vigoport that allow you to attach your personal item to your rolling bag with ease. The sturdy design of these straps complete with a metal J hook means that you won’t have to worry about your luggage falling off while you're trekking through the airport, and the adjustable buckle fits a wide range of suitcase sizes for your convenience.

Just take it from this flight attendant , who dubbed the straps “invaluable” to their travels because they are “sturdy and hold my bags together securely.” Not to mention that another shopper called them “flight attendant-approved” and a “must-have item,” seeing as they “make life so much easier” and are made of a “great quality and even better price.”

SwissGear 1900 Scansmart TSA Backpack

A reliable backpack is one of the best travel companions, and with more than 19,900 five-star ratings, it’s safe to say that this TSA-friendly bag from SwissGear is fit for the job. The comfy and impressively spacious backpack features one large, primary pocket for storing your essentials, while a padded laptop pocket makes commuting with electronics (and going through TSA security) safer and easier than ever. Plus, one shopper noted that they have a friend who is a flight attendant and swears by this bag. In fact, speaking to its durability, they added that they have even “been using it for the last three years.”

Eachy Travel Makeup Bag

Keeping your toiletries and makeup organized while on the go will make it so much easier to settle into your destination once you’ve arrived. Thankfully, this best-selling bag from Eachy is currently on sale for just $24, and is loved by flight attendants and travelers alike for its roomy and incredibly efficient design. The interior of the bag features two primary compartments with a zippered divider down the middle, and when completely unfurled, it lays flat so you won’t have to make a mess to find exactly what you’re looking for. Just take it from this flight attendant, who explained that “everything fits inside” and they have “no loose things” in their suitcase while on the job. And to top it all off, it’s cute.

AceMining Portable Door Lock

Whether you’re traveling alone or with a group, safety should always be a priority during any adventure. Seeing as flight attendants often end up staying in various destinations around the world alone, it makes sense that they would have some additional tips for staying safe, and this portable door lock is at the top of their list . Simply slide the metal piece in between the door frame and the locking mechanism, and this best-selling device will keep intruders out while remaining easy to remove from the inside in case of emergency. Now you can rest easy knowing that your accommodations are as safe and secure as could be.

Southwest cancels over 100 flights in, out of Orlando International this weekend, citing weather constraints

Many passengers frustrated after mco flight delays, cancellations.

Some passengers have been camping at the airport for over 40 hours due to the cancellations and delays.

ORLANDO, Fla - Over 100 Southwest Airlines flights out of Orlando International Airport were canceled this weekend due to thunderstorms, the company said.

A total of 14 flights were canceled because of "challenges created by widespread pop-up thunderstorms and airspace constraints across Florida on Saturday," Southwest said in a statement to FOX 35.

Around 6 a.m. Sunday, FOX 35 received a viewer email about their flight from Houston to Orlando being delayed four hours. The email said that upon landing at 4:30 a.m., they were stuck on the plane at 6 a.m.

Since then, FOX 35 has received three more emails from Southwest travelers who are stuck at the Orlando airport.

Photos sent by FOX 35 viewers show the crowded terminals, with some people sleeping on the floor after their flights were delayed.

Photos show Southwest passengers in the Orlando International Airport dealing with massive flight delays

One viewer said she and several others had been at the airport for over 24 hours, and her flight had been canceled seven times.

A Southwest spokesperson said:

"Our schedule adjustments in Orlando today are designed to keep the greatest numbers of Customers and their bags moving as we work through lingering challenges created by widespread pop-up thunderstorms and airspace constraints across Florida Saturday. We’re communicating with our Customers, assisting them through any delays in reaching their destinations today, and apologizing for any inconvenience. Our Employees in Orlando are working to serve Customers to quickly move them through dedicated checkin areas for International and Cruise passengers, fast-service bag drop, and full service."

Photos also show Southwest planes parked at the terminal.

50 people injured, 13 sent to hospital after 'technical event' on LATAM Airlines flight

flight travel this weekend

At least 50 people were injured Monday by what officials described as a "strong movement" on a Chilean plane traveling from Sydney to Auckland, New Zealand.

LATAM Airlines said in a statement that there was "a technical event during the flight which caused a strong movement." It did not elaborate on what happened.

Passengers were met by paramedics and more than 10 emergency vehicles when the flight touched down in Auckland.

About 50 people were treated at the scene for mostly mild injuries. Ten passengers and three crew members were taken to the hospital for checks and treatment.

One patient was believed to be in serious condition.

Passengers said a number of people were not wearing seatbelts when flight LA800 suddenly dropped. The Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner landed at Auckland Airport as scheduled and was due to continue on to Santiago, Chile.

"LATAM regrets the inconvenience and injury this situation may have caused its passengers, and reiterates its commitment to safety as a priority within the framework of its operational standards," the airline said.

Incidents of severe turbulence have been increasing in recent years due to climate change, though it's unclear if turbulence was a factor in what happened on this flight.

If it turns out to be an issue with the plane, it would be the latest in the ongoing run of headaches and bad press for Boeing.

Regardless of the cause, LATAM 800 is a reminder for passengers to always wear their seatbelts while flying and obey the seatbelt sign whenever it's on.

Sara Nelson, president of the Association of Flight Attendants, previously told USA TODAY that unbuckled passengers put everyone in danger if the airplane makes an unexpected maneuver.

"The people who are not strapped in now also become projectiles themselves and can harm people when they come back down," she said.

Powerful winds gusting up to 100 mph cause travel delays and power outages in Northeast

A satellite image of the Northeast United States on March 11, 2024.

Around 52 million people remain under wind alerts Monday afternoon across the Northeast, from Maryland to Maine.

Mount Washington, New Hampshire, experienced the highest peak wind gusts of the day at 109 mph.

Philadelphia recorded 63 mph wind gusts, while Newark, New Jersey, saw 59 mph and Providence, Rhode Island, reached 53 mph. Boston winds gusted 46 mph.

Power outages have been reported in parts of Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York and New Hampshire.

The strong winds should relax this evening, and most wind alerts should expire late tonight or overnight.

On Monday, 62 million people woke up under wind advisories and high wind warnings stretching from Maine to the mountains of western North Carolina.

For areas under wind alerts, Monday's winds were forecast to be sustained at 25 to 35 mph with gusts as high as 50 to 60 mph.

These high wind forecasts included the heavily traveled I-95 corridor and large airport hubs in the Washington-Baltimore region, Philadelphia International Airport, the major tri-state airports (Newark, LaGuardia and John F. Kennedy) and Boston Logan.

Travel delays are likely at the airports until the winds subside, which is not expected to occur until winds go below wind advisory criteria overnight Monday into Tuesday morning.

Downed trees and power outages are also expected to be impacts from Monday's high winds across the eastern states.

In addition to the high winds, light to moderate snow was expected to fall across the interior Northeast and New England through Monday night.

Winter storm warnings were up for the northern Adirondacks of upstate New York and parts of Vermont and northern New Hampshire.

Additional snow totals are expected to be generally 4 to 8 inches, with some isolated totals as high as 10 inches or more in spots.

Monday's wind and snow comes in the wake of a storm system that brought soaking rains to the southeast Friday into Saturday and the mid-Atlantic and Northeast Saturday into Sunday.

Following the weekend rainfall, Cape Hatteras, North Carolina; Norfolk, Virginia; Philadelphia; New York City; Bridgeport, Connecticut; and Providence, Rhode Island, are now having their wettest start to March on record.

And m ore than 80 river gauges from the southeast to coastal New England remained in minor to moderate flood stage as of midmorning Monday.

Hampton Beach, New Hampshire, was the area hardest-hit by flooding over the weekend, when strong onshore winds pushed water into the community, cutting off roads and inundating homes. This area is highly vulnerable to coastal flooding, with this being the second time in 2024 that the area has flooded.
