Majestic Alaska (10 Days) Tour

Majestic Alaska (10 Days)

In general things went very well. However, At the Denali location there was a shortage of staff which prevented full service at the Park, Ie. not all dinning venues were normal and our room service such as daily service was missing. We were told, staff shortage due to Canadian employees may have left due to concern of border being closed into Canada. Hotel dysfunction on a limited basis due to that concern. On our last day at the Anchorage Hilton room service was missing also. Not sure why. Most other activities were well supplied/performed. We were pleased.with our Tour Director Tyler, Bus Driver Les and Health coordinator Carol., Some other venues were a bit restricted due to COVID-19 concerns which appear to be out of control of Tourradar. We loved Valdez,, Fairbanks, Anchorage and Kanai Fjords National Park, as well as the Athabascan Village and flat boat ride and other amenities such as the Husky Dog Farm. Overall pleased, except as noted above. The weather cooperated 100%.

Nature's Best: Alaska

Our Tour guide, Wayne, was fantastic! He went above and beyond; to make sure we were comfortable on the bus and on the tours! He also got us as close as he could when there were animal sightings! Lane, our driver, was also an excellent driver; and he kept us safe on the narrow and winding Mountain roads! Hats off to these two!

Spectacular Alaska! Tour

Spectacular Alaska!

The tour was fantastic. Alaska is big, and there was a lot of driving required. However, the tour included stops and videos to help pass the time. Great mix of activities.

Reviews of luxury tours in alaska.

It was an awesome tour. Saw and did so much. I would recommend Trafalgar to tour with. We are booked next year for The Colorful Trails of the SW in September. I want to say our tour director,Tyler Browning, is one of the best guides we have had. He is personable, friendly, caring, very knowledgeable and on top of everything. He is GREAT!
Our spectacular Alaska trip was very good. The tour guide, Nick, did a good job of making sure everything went well and that our bus rides were not too long. Meals and included excursions were good. Our bus driver, Tamah, did a great job. We were able to visit some wonderful parts of Alaska in a short time and had fun doing so.

Whale Sense

Alaska Luxury Tours is proud to participate in Whale SENSE.

Whale SENSE is a voluntary education and recognition program offered to commercial whale watching companies in the U.S. Atlantic and Alaska regions. The program is sponsored by NOAA Fisheries and Whale and Dolphin Conservation. Developed in collaboration with the whale watching industry, Whale SENSE recognizes whale watching companies committed to responsible practices.

Participating companies agree to:

  • Stick to the regional whale watching guidelines.
  • Educate naturalists, captains, and passengers to have SENSE while watching whales.
  • Notify appropriate networks of whales in distress.
  • Set an example for other boaters.
  • Encourage ocean stewardship.

Upon successful completion of training and evaluation, Whale SENSE businesses receive materials identifying them as active Whale SENSE participants featuring the Whale SENSE logo and current calendar year.

*All of our vessels follow Whale SENSE Guidelines. We never approach whales closer than Federal law allows (100 yards). All marketing images represent responsible and ethical interactions with marine wildlife. Wildlife images can be misrepresented due to camera lens lengths or varying perspectives. The Alaska Luxury Tours team does our best to share amazing experiences with you, while maintaining the utmost safety and respect for our wildlife.

Don’t Just Take Our Word For It…

40-foot boat with all modern conveniences and knowledgeable staff made whale watching a great experience.

The team at ALT was fabulous! We had a great time! Would book a tour with them again any time I am in Alaska!

Best cruise I have ever been on. From the ship to the staff and the food. Clean, friendly, professionals and most of all, very attentive to the needs of all aboard.

This was an amazing tour. The naturalist was very attentive and answered all our questions. They all were so friendly and knowledgeable. It was the best part of our entire trip.

This tour was the highlight of our trip. Truly enjoyed seeing the awesome humpback whales and learned so much from our knowledgeable crew. The hospitality on the yacht was great!!!

Excellent trip with a knowledgeable guide and skipper. Nice having only 8 people on the boat. Got real close to the whales and did not have to fight for viewing space. Will definitely do again on my next trip to Alaska.

Beautiful yacht, amazing informative and funny staff. Private luxury experience! They will pick you up in a private Mercedes van, and take you to the yacht. Along the way the guides will inform you of the surrounding sights and give you a taste of the local life.

What Our Visitors Have Said

What an amazing experience we had aboard the Sea Mist. It was truly a once in a lifetime trip! From the moment we stepped on board Jeff and Kate were warm and inviting hosts. The boat is clean and spacious while offering great spaces to get comfortable while aboard. We anchored in a cove where we saw tons of wildlife including a brown bear which was amazing. The food was outstanding and we regret not staying longer. This is a TRUE Alaska experience and we will be back to do it again.

THANK YOU!!!

Once in a lifetime and a one of a kind experience! Everything was absolutely incredible.

Words can’t describe and pictures hardly do justice. Everything was perfect from the moment we were met at the dock. Chef Suzette wowed us at every meal with her fresh culinary creations. Dining while watching glaciers calving and waterfowl dancing in the waterfalls were breathtaking. Captain Jeff is a fabulous host. Very in tune with his guests and what will provide their best Alaskan adventure. Whether you are looking to unwind and reflect on the wonder that is Alaska or seeking a more active itinerary, Captain Jeff and Alaskan Luxury Cruises delivers!

By far, this has been one of my favorite vacations. When planning our trip, I had no idea of the level of exceptional customer service we were going to receive. Captain Jeff, Kate and Chef Zach went OVER AND ABOVE WHAT WE EXPECTED. They did a wonderful job of making us feel at home. Five stars isn’t enough to give the crew of The Sea Mist.

The Sea Mist brings a new level of luxury to vacation. This trip is not your average trip, this experience will fill a spot in your soul that will linger with you for the rest of your days. That is rare to find in any vacation and rare to find in life.

Jen, Ogden, Utah

From the moment we stepped foot on the boat on a gloriously sunny day in Whittier until we stepped off a few days later, we were treated to amazing views, food, and activities. Captain Jeff has been on Prince William Sound for many years and put together an excellent itinerary for the interests of our groups, from hiking to kayaking to glacier viewing, everything was perfect for us

The beauty of the Sea Mist perfectly complemented the beauty surrounding us. She’s a beautiful custom yacht full of wide open spaces that are unexpected for a boat. Every detail is immaculate. There wasn’t enough time to truly enjoy all the comfortable seating areas around the boat. While the Sea Mist could likely comfortably carry 20+ people, the small, private group made us feel like royalty. In addition, the smoothness of the ride aboard the Sea Mist is unparalleled. We never felt like we were out on the water. This would be the perfect trip for anyone who otherwise struggles with seasickness.

I cannot rave enough about Alaskan Luxury Cruises. For this being my first time visiting Alaska, the experience was more amazing than I imagined. The whole crew on the Sea Mist were so hospitable and warm and welcoming. Kate did a fantastic job of making sure we were taken care of. And chef Dave made every meal with so much thought. I highly recommend booking the Sea Mist for a luxury Alaskan adventure.

5 best luxury Alaska cruises for 2024

Janice Wald Henderson

Luxury Alaska cruises have a different vibe than posh sailings in balmy climes. Lounging poolside plays second fiddle to shore excursions showcasing the state's spectacular natural wonders. Onboard experiences are uniquely Alaskan; viewing glaciers and wildlife from your ship's spacious decks and listening to fascinating lectures from passionate expert guests overshadow trivia games and wine tastings.

The best Alaska luxury cruises also deliver the pampering luxe-lovers crave. Smiling servers will pass you mugs of hot chocolate while you gape at calving icebergs. Cashmere blankets await you in your suite, so you can stay warm and cozy on your private veranda while taking tail-flipping whale pics.

For cruise news, reviews and tips, sign up for TPG's cruise newsletter .

On luxury lines, many excursions are complimentary. These riveting outings transport you far from crowded ports and touristy shops to pristine forests and lakes or to bucket-list adventures like dog-mushing, glacier-trekking and bear-viewing. Such outings would cost big bucks on premium or contemporary ships. Of course, the cost is folded into a luxury cruise's higher prices, but you'll likely see and experience far more when the activities are included in your fare.

If you're seeking unabashed luxury and thrills galore, try one of these five best luxury Alaska cruises for 2024.

Silversea Cruises

alaska luxury trip

Silversea Cruises ' newest ship, the 728-passenger Silver Nova , brings the outdoors in with abundant floor-to-ceiling windows, making the ship an idyllic ride for Inside Passage cruising.

Its seven-night Vancouver-to-Seward voyage visits every must-see port — including Ketchikan, Juneau and Skagway — and also sails to the astonishing Hubbard Glacier. Silversea fares include most shore excursions, so you don't have to pay extra to immerse yourself in the best Alaska has to offer.

For instance, in Ketchikan, Silver Nova offers a whopping 12 complimentary shore excursions, such as a Hovercraft cruise with possible wildlife glimpses of eagles and whales, followed by a beach landing in the Tongass National Forest, or a ride on a fully enclosed adventure boat to a marine park for a scrumptious seafood boil with crab, shrimp, clams and mussels at Silverking Lodge. In Sitka, 11 included excursions run the gamut from a mountain hike to an alpine lake with a Champagne toast to a three-hour kayak paddle to a floating base camp.

On board, relish all-suite accommodations, butler service, complimentary sustainable caviar and alcohol. Among 10 notable dining opportunities, seven are complimentary. All gratuities are included. Best of all, this ship's asymmetrical design — new to Silversea — delivers phenomenal views from pretty much everywhere — even in glass elevators.

Silver Nova is offering weeklong cruises, sailing between Vancouver and Seward from May through mid-September 2024. Fares for the June 20 departure start at $4,950 per person.

Regent Seven Seas Cruises

alaska luxury trip

One of the best luxury Alaska cruise ships is the 746-passenger all-suite Seven Seas Explorer. It's one of Regent Seven Seas Cruises ' most glam ships, and you can pamper yourself on board for a week as you sail from Seward, Alaska to Vancouver, British Columbia. If you love opulence — think exquisite marble and crystal lavished everywhere — and a magnificent multimillion-dollar art collection, look no further than Seven Seas Explorer for your vacation home-suite-home.

Your cruise fare includes so many amenities, like round-trip air, most shore excursions, all specialty dining (don't miss Chartreuse and Pacific Rim), 24-hour in-suite dining, alcohol, airport transfers, gratuities and, my personal favorite, valet laundry service. The biggest suites come with even more perks, such as a one-night pre-cruise hotel and butler service.

Related: The 2 types of Regent Seven Seas Cruises ships, explained

In Alaska, count on many notable included excursions, like driving the uber-scenic Klondike Highway, feasting on freshly caught salmon at Liarsville Gold Rush Camp or visiting a sled dog camp (petting allowed). In Juneau, search for humpbacks and orcas on wildlife quests at sea or photograph the mighty Mendenhall Glacier from advantageous viewing points.

Ketchikan is totem territory; here, you can meet a Native American artist demonstrating not only how carvings are done, but the significance to their culture. Or visit a raptor rehab center where you can stare down a bald eagle eye to eye.

Seven Seas Explorer is offering seven-night cruises, sailing between Vancouver and Seward from May through mid-September 2024. Fares for a July 17, 2024, "Summer on the Frontier" cruise start at $6,799 per person.

alaska luxury trip

Is a week not enough time in Alaska? For more pampered vacation days and more time spent exploring the 49th state, choose the yacht-like, 458-passenger all-suite Seabourn Odyssey and its 11-night round-trip Vancouver voyage for your Alaska luxury cruise.

Although this is the ship's last summer with Seabourn (Seabourn Quest assumes this route in 2025), no shortcuts are taken for the final season fling. Service consistently excels. Count alcohol, Regiis Ova Caviar (a company co-founded by superstar chef Thomas Keller) and gratuities among inclusions. The crew pulls out all the stops for Seabourn's Caviar on the Ice, a complimentary deck party with — you guessed it — loads of caviar to eat and bubbly to sip. It's a riff on Seabourn's iconic Caviar in the Surf party offered in tropical climes and just as scrumptious.

Seabourn Odyssey's timeless design suits the country-club-ish ambience and makes for a cushy onboard experience. All suites but entry level provide private verandas. The ship offers eight complimentary dining venues plus 24-hour in-suite dining. If you like, enjoy the latter for dinner after a day of adventurous excursions; dishes will be served course-by-course. Passengers love the Club, the hangout for afternoon tea and nighttime dancing. Its outdoor terrace lures with two whirlpools and a plunge pool.

While not an expedition vessel, Seabourn Odyssey hosts about 14 experts on Alaska sailings, including academics, scientists and other wildlife experts. They guide the optional (extra fee) Ventures by Seabourn excursions, such as Zodiac, kayaking, hiking and catamaran tours. Highlights include a four- to six-mile hike through a rainforest past a glacial lake to Mendenhall Valley and kayaking to Hubbard Glacier. A professional photographer lectures and offers small-group workshops on how to capture perfect wildlife pics.

Note that this itinerary is longer than most (and Seabourn also offers weeklong sailings), delivering a far deeper immersion into the state's pristine and less-visited allures. For instance, visiting the Inland Islands, Endicott or Tracy Arm and Wrangell are unbeatable. The same goes for scenic cruising in Misty Fjords, with nearly incomparable beauty.

Seabourn Odyssey is offering seven, 10, 11 and 14-night cruises from May through August 2024. Fares for this June 17, 2024, 11-night round-trip Vancouver "Inside Passage and Alaska Fjords" cruise start at $7,799 per person.

Oceania Cruises

alaska luxury trip

While considered an upper-premium line, Oceania Cruises recently unveiled a novel program called simply MORE, adding many inclusions to standard fares, such as round-trip airfare, airport transfers, most alcohol and a $600 shore excursion credit per passenger. This program ups the cruise ante to luxury-level standards.

Not to mention, Oceania Cruises' ships are stunning, even an older one like the 670-passenger Regatta. Built in 1999, it underwent a major refurbishment in 2019. Expect public spaces in sky and sea hues and an abundance of timeless teak, stone and custom tile work.

Related: The 5 best destinations you can visit on an Oceania Cruises ship

Dining on board is major; all five restaurants excel and are included in the fare (even the fanciest dishes, like prime dry-aged Angus steak and Maine lobster). A complimentary afternoon tea is served daily, with four-tiered pastry carts, artisanal brews and a live string quartet performing.

To complete the luxury experience, book at least a concierge-level veranda (to add free laundry service, cashmere lap blankets, priority boarding and more to your list of perks). Book a suite for 24-hour butler service.

This 10-night round-trip Seattle voyage hits not just the usual stops of Sitka, Ketchikan, Juneau and Skagway. You'll also visit Victoria, British Columbia, for whale-watching, a city walking tour or outings to cider farms and wineries. Stroll the iconic Butchart Gardens, its winding paths ablaze with colorful blooms.

Explore beyond Icy Strait Point, where wildlife outnumbers the primarily Tlingit Indian population. Look out for grizzlies and bald eagles, learn about the Tlingit culture or combine a grizzly bear viewing opportunity with a humpback whale cruise.

If your questions about Alaska aren't answered ashore, onboard guest speakers, such as naturalists, passionately share knowledge about the region's history, culture and environment.

Regatta is offering six-, nine-, 10- and 11-night cruises from May through September 2024. Fares for this July 9, 2024, round-trip Seattle 10-night "Radiant Alaska" cruise start at $3,399 per person.

alaska luxury trip

While Viking falls in the (self-declared) upper premium category, most cruisers see the line's ships as luxury. Sailing in Alaska, the 930-passenger adults-only Viking Orion offers an elegant and spacious modern Nordic design.

Entry-level cabins offer a generous minimum of 270 square feet, including a private veranda. These cushy digs include a king bed, spacious bath with heated floor and anti-fog mirror, plush robes, turndown service and complimentary soft drink, water and snack minibar. Bigger, costlier accommodations come with complimentary welcome Champagne, a coffee maker and priority booking for shore excursions and restaurants.

The Spa offers complimentary access to its Thermal Suite, where guests can rejuvenate by alternating between a steamy sauna and a frigid Snow Grotto. Daily afternoon tea service is a treat in the gorgeous Wintergarden. It's complimentary, as are the ship's primo specialty restaurants.

Related: The ultimate guide to Viking cruise ships and itineraries

Viking Orion's 10-night cruise between Vancouver and Seward includes scenic sailing of the Inside Passage and Yakutat Bay and a stop at rarely visited Valdez. There, enticing shore excursions include kayaking by Valdez Glacier; flying over glaciers, searching for wildlife in a helicopter; and a UTV (utility terrain vehicle, larger than an ATV) adventure through the Chugach Mountains to the Mineral Creek Canyon. One shore excursion is complimentary in every port.

Viking Orion is offering 10-night 2024 Alaskan voyages between Vancouver and Seward from May until early September 2024. Fares for this July 3, 2024, Vancouver to Seward 10-night sail start at $6,999 per person.

Alaska Luxury Tours and Vacations

If there’s one place in the world where you can still hear the call of the wild loud and clear, it’s Alaska. A vacation in Alaska is an escape into a vast world of untouched natural beauty. The largely subarctic climate of this state awakens your sense of adventure: imagine yourself a gold prospector, a musher, an intrepid explorer of a primeval landscape. Take a trip with us across a dizzying array of lakes, mountains and glaciers, within the cozy comfort of a well-guided and secure tour.

Denali National Park is perhaps one of the most intense ways to experience the variability of this region. Serene taiga forests give way to sparse shrubs, and eventually open out into a white world of glaciers, snow and jagged peaks. Denali, the highest mountain in North America, towers over the park. A part of Denali is still held within an icy grip of permafrost, which makes for wonderful oddities like the Drunken Forest, where teetering trees weave their roots between frozen and thawed ground.

If the moving landscape of glaciers gives you goosebumps, then you’ll definitely feel the pull of Prince William Sound, where 150 glaciers form part of a unique ecosystem. Black bears and grizzlies stalk the Chugach National Forest, but it’s the marine life that will capture your heart. Seals, sea lions, transient whale pods – the most lively, playful swimmers visit these waters, and seeing them in the wild is an experience you’ll never forget.

If you’re looking for adventure, you can take a mad dash across the snow on a dog-sled, pan for gold in a rushing creek, get a closer look at remote peaks on a flight tour, or go fishing in bountiful waters. Learn about the Athabascans, Aleuts and other indigenous groups at the Alaska Native Heritage Center in Anchorage, where almost half the population of the state is clustered.

The connection to the land is strong in Alaskan cuisine, where big game meats including caribou, moose, elk, and even reindeer are commonly served. Whether eaten as sashimi or grilled to perfection, you can also try some of the freshest salmon you’ll ever have on a holiday. Don’t forget to add the famous Alaskan Ale as a a very friendly companion at the end of a long day.

Are you feeling the call? Pack your bags and your best pair of boots and join us for a trip into the wild!

Glacier Bay alaska

Glacier Bay National Park

Glacier Bay National Park, located in Southeast Alaska, is a captivating and pristine wilderness known for its breathtaking glaciers, towering mountains, and diverse marine ecosystems. Encompassing over 3.3 million acres, the park is renowned for its glaciers, with more than a dozen tidewater glaciers actively calving into the sea.

In addition to glaciers, the park boasts a rich marine ecosystem. Its nutrient-rich waters support an abundance of marine life, including humpback whales, orcas, sea lions, seals, porpoises, and seabirds. Visitors can embark on boat tours or kayak excursions to explore the park’s pristine fjords, witness marine mammals in their natural habitat, and marvel at the diversity of wildlife.

Glacier Bay National Park is also home to much more than just icy glaciers. It includes dense forests, alpine meadows, and rugged mountains. The park is teeming with wildlife, such as brown bears, mountain goats, moose, wolves, and a variety of bird species.

Glacier Bay can be accessed by boat or plane, although most of its visitors will be aboard the many large cruise ships that cruise its waters on an Inside Passage cruise. Some of the small cruise ships listed above also visit Glacier Bay. These small ships are also able to explore smaller fjords and allow for visitors to disembark on zodiac boats, kayaks or paddleboards to see more of this incredible landscape from up close.

Glacier Bay Lodge

The Glacier Bay Lodge offers the only accommodations in Glacier Bay National Park and Preserve. This lodge provides stunning views of the Fairweather Mountain range and Glacier Bay. Dine on fresh Alaskan seafood, watch the glaciers calve, learn something new from the National Park Rangers, or take a hike in the temperate rainforest. Glacier Bay Lodge is a longtime favorite of Alaskans and visitors alike.

Prince William Sound

Prince William Sound is a breathtaking marine region in South Central Alaska renowned for its stunning fjords, glaciers, rugged coastline, and abundant marine life.

Prince William Sound is home to numerous glaciers, including the magnificent Columbia Glacier, the largest tidewater glacier in the Sound. Some of the notable glaciers that are often included in these cruises include Meares Glacier. This tidewater glacier is in Unakwik Inlet, and boat cruises allows passengers to get relatively close to the glacier, providing excellent photo opportunities and a chance to witness the dynamic nature of glacial activity. Surprise Glacier, located in Harriman Fjord, showcases towering ice walls and intricate formations. Another potential stop on a Prince William Sound cruise is Harvard Glacier, located in College Fjord. This glacier is known for its mesmerizing blue hues and grandeur.

Beside the incredible glaciers, Prince William Sound is teeming with a diverse array of marine wildlife, such as humpback whales, orcas, sea otters, and harbor seals. The region is also a haven for seabirds, including puffins, bald eagles, and cormorants. Along the shoreline, you may spot brown bears, moose, and various bird species.

8 Best Alaska Wilderness Lodges

These Alaska lodges offer a deeper connection to nature along with a sense of adventure — and a touch of luxury.

alaska luxury trip

The wilderness of Alaska has long captured the imagination of adventurers — and for good reason. With over 650,000 square miles of land and roughly 700,000 residents, there are great swaths of the state that few humans have explored.

One of the best ways to really experience the Alaska of your dreams is to stay at a backcountry lodge. These far-flung locales offer a deeper connection to nature and give travelers a glimpse into an increasingly rarefied Alaska. And, despite usually being out of cell phone reception, you won't exactly be roughing it — these destinations marry one-of-a-kind experiences with some serious personal pampering. Here are some of our favorite Alaska wilderness lodges.

Salmon Falls Resort

Sitting in the midst of Tongass National Forest in Alaska's famed Inside Passage, adventure is literally at the doorstep of Salmon Falls Resort . Originally built in 1986, the resort opened with the intention of inviting newbie and expert anglers in for fishing experiences, but has since expanded to include flightseeing, kayaking tours, shrimping, hiking trips, and excursions to downtown Ketchikan. Guests can also arrange salmon roe and wine pairings, wildlife-watching excursions (think humpback and orca whales, seals, eagles, and sea lions), cruises via zodiac, and bear-watching expeditions.

Ultima Thule

It's fitting that Ultima Thula means "a distant or unknown region" considering it's located in the heart of Wrangell-St. Elias National Park and Reserve . Clocking in at 13.2 million acres (roughly the same size as the five smallest states combined), the park is the largest in the U.S. and an unparalleled playground for those looking to get into the outdoors. Ultima Thule makes it easy to explore the park far and wide by providing guests with a pilot and a bush plane to get the most out of the experience. You might spend one day picnicking on the largest non-polar glacier in the world and packrafting in an alpine lake and the next exploring abandoned gold mines and hiking across nameless mountains. While the cabins are separate, meals are served in the main lodge and often include locally harvested salmon and wild game, as well as vegetables from the lodge's greenhouse.

Eleven Winterlake Lodge

If you're craving a meaningful immersion into some of Alaska's most remote lands, this is the way to go. This wilderness outpost, over 100 miles from the closest road, was once a simple trapper's cabin located on the famed Iditarod National Historic Trail . Today, Eleven Winterlake Lodge is a lush retreat where each guest's itinerary is personalized every day, with activities ranging from helicopter rides to glacier treks to river rafting adventures. Guests bunk down in Winterlake's six hand-crafted cabins and nosh on incredible meals made with locally sourced ingredients.

Tordrillo Mountain Lodge

Sure, Tordrillo has an epic winter program, with heli-skiing and snowboarding in deep, perfect powder on completely untracked mountains, but you'd be remiss to think it's just a cold weather destination. The spacious main lodge and the two private cabins make for a luxurious year-round basecamp that's just a 40-minute flight from Anchorage. In the summer, some of the activities adventurers can opt for include whitewater rafting, alpine hikes, Via Ferrata climbing, and heli-biking. At the end of the day, the 500-bottle wine cellar, lakeside dining room, and copper hot tub don't disappoint.

Talon Lodge

In much of Alaska, fishers have a choice to make: saltwater or freshwater fish? Not at Talon Lodge near Sitka, though. Here anglers can zip out into the open ocean to hunt for king or silver salmon and halibut or venture down quieter streams in search of rainbow trout, sockeye salmon, and more. But if fishing isn't your idea of a good time, the 13-room lodge also offers ATV trips, kayaking, hiking, and whale watching. After your day of adventuring, enjoy chatting with your fellow travelers over meals produced by their visiting chefs and locally crafted beers at their highly-rated beachfront bar.

Tutka Bay Lodge

For travelers looking for a lodge at the intersection of adventure and leisure, Tutka Bay is the spot. Intrepid guests can spend the day going halibut fishing, bear viewing, or glacier trekking, while those looking for a more low-key experience can tootle around tide pools, do yoga on the expansive deck overlooking the water, join daily wine and beer tastings, or take a three-course cooking class (using all locally grown or harvested ingredients) in a retired crabbing boat with celebrated Alaskan chefs Kirsten and Mandy Dixon.

Tikchik Narrows Lodge

Few travelers to the 49th state make it this far north — quite honestly, there are likely few lifelong Alaskans who know where this spot is. Tikchik is found in one of the most rugged regions of the state, only accessible by seaplane from the tiny city of Dillingham in southwestern Alaska. Its position is prime for sportfishing, boasting all five of Alaska's species of salmon, as well as seven species of freshwater fish. The lodge has a large communal area with a natural stone fireplace and a circular dining room that is suspended above the lake, so the views are jaw-dropping (and in the summer, the sunsets are endless).

Sheldon Chalet

Sheldon Chalet is arguably one of the hardest-to-reach lodges in the world. Located just 10 miles from the summit of Denali (the tallest peak in North America), the only way to get here is by bush plane or helicopter. Founded by the children of the adventurer and pilot who famously mapped the mountain, the opulent, all-inclusive five-bedroom lodge sits in stark contrast to the wild, frozen land it sits on. Each room is filled with all the coziness of faux-fur blankets, crackling fireplaces, and comfy slippers. But you're not expected to just enjoy the scenery from the picture windows — outdoor activities include spelunking in snow caverns, snowshoe glacier trekking, and gourmet picnics. In the winter, cross your fingers for an ethereal northern lights show, as you're guaranteed to have front-row seats.

How much does an alaska cruise cost in 2024.

Compare the prices of these eight voyages before booking your Alaska cruise.

Alaska Cruise Cost

The Holland American Line Noordam ship in Skagway, Alaska.

Courtesy of Holland America Line

If you're planning a cruise to Alaska this year, you may be enticed by low prices (in the hundreds) for a weeklong cruise. However, it's important to know that those fares are just the beginning of the cost for the entire trip.

Typically, the lowest advertised prices with mainstream cruise lines don't include taxes and port fees, specialty dining costs, alcoholic or nonalcoholic drinks, shore excursions , Wi-Fi access, gratuities and other expenses. On top of that, bargain fares usually refer to inside cabins with no windows. In a picturesque, bucket list destination like Alaska, you will realistically want a room with a private balcony so you can take in the spectacular scenery from the comfort of your room.

When to cruise to Alaska depends on what you're interested in seeing and doing during your vacation , but summer is typically the best time to visit The Great Land. Between mid-May and mid-July, you can experience 24 hours of daylight. This period is also an optimal time for wildlife viewing; you can see bears feasting on salmon, humpback whales and orcas, furry baby moose and thousands of nesting bald eagles. Cruise lines often reserve their lowest prices for sailings early or late in the Alaska cruising season , but it's still possible to find deals in the middle of the summer.

With all of this in mind, we've listed both the lowest interior cabin fares and the average total costs for a balcony stateroom across eight popular cruise lines for weeklong itineraries in June 2024. (Note: All fares quoted are per person, double occupancy, unless otherwise noted. Prices were accurate at the time of writing.)

Find your perfect cruise

Holland America Line

The Holland America Line Noordam in Yakutat Bay.

Holland America Line's 2024 Alaska season extends from April to September; in 2024, there are more than 60 cruise-only voyages and cruisetours (combined land and sea packages). With the exception of one 28-day journey, itineraries range from seven to 18 days.

Average starting price (per person)

This June, Holland America 's lowest-priced itinerary is the 7-Day Glacier Discovery Southbound voyage departing from Whittier, Alaska, on June 23, 2024, aboard Nieuw Amsterdam . The voyage features scenic cruising in Hubbard Glacier, Glacier Bay National Park & Preserve and the Inside Passage. You'll also stop in the Alaska towns of Skagway, Juneau and Ketchikan, before disembarking in Vancouver, British Columbia . The starting price is $409 per person for an inside cabin, and veranda staterooms start at $2,114 per person (cruise-only fare).

Starting price (per person)

For this sailing, there is a $291 charge per person for taxes, fees and port expenses. Specialty dining, alcoholic drinks (and many nonalcoholic beverages, such as bottled water and specialty coffees), excursions, Wi-Fi access, gratuities and some other amenities cost extra.

Instead of paying for these extras individually, you can book Holland America's "Have It All" package. It covers one dinner at a specialty restaurant; one shore excursion (up to $100 per guest); a signature beverage package (for drinks up to $11 each) and a Wi-Fi package. For a limited time, you can also receive a $200 onboard credit per stateroom. A veranda stateroom plus the package starts at $2,569 per person.

If you purchase the "Have It All" package with the veranda stateroom, select the location of your cabin yourself (an additional $90), add in the port taxes and fees ($291) and include crew gratuities at $17 per guest, per day for non-suite staterooms ($119), the total cost is about $3,000 per person. You'll still need to budget for drinks that cost more than $11 each; bottles of wine with dinner; additional evenings of specialty dining; other shore excursions and miscellaneous expenses.

Total cost: From $3,069 per person

Princess Cruises

The Crown Princess in Haines, Alaska.

Courtesy of Princess Cruises

Princess is offering 14 unique itineraries and 68 cruisetours during the 2024 Alaska season, which runs from May to September. Itineraries range from a seven-day cruise to a 17-day escorted cruisetour.

Princess's lowest-priced cruise in June is the 7-Day Voyage of the Glaciers with Glacier Bay (Northbound) from Vancouver, British Columbia, to Anchorage (Whittier), Alaska , on Grand Princess. Embarking on June 5, 2024, the sailing includes scenic cruising in College Fjord and Glacier Bay National Park & Preserve, a day at sea and stops in the coastal towns of Ketchikan, Juneau and Skagway in Alaska. Interior cabins start at $448 per person, while staterooms with a balcony start at $1,698 per person. If you select your own balcony stateroom (instead of letting the cruise line place you), the cost is $1,791 per person.

Additional fees (taxes, gratuities, etc.)

Taxes, fees and port expenses for this cruise will run you $284 per person. At the $1,791 rate, you will be in the Princess Standard fare class, which includes the ships' complimentary dining venues, entertainment and the MedallionClass experience.

You can upgrade to Princess Plus (starting at $2,211 for a balcony room) to add Wi-Fi access (one device per guest); gratuities; a beverage package (covering drinks up to $15 each); two fitness classes per cruise; two premium desserts per day; two casual dining meals and more. For additional amenities, such as Wi-Fi access for up to four devices per guest; a higher-level beverage package (for drinks up to $20 each); two specialty dining meals per guest; unlimited exercise classes and more, opt for the Princess Premier package. Balcony rooms under this category start at $2,351 per guest.

If you purchase the Princess Premier package with the balcony room, the total cost with port taxes and fees is a little more than $2,600 per person – and the pricing is nearly all-inclusive. This package may also include free cruise fare for third and fourth guests traveling in the same stateroom. You will still need to budget for shore excursions; note that over-the-top experiences like flightseeing, helicopter and dog sledding tours, and scenic rides on the historic White Pass and Yukon Route Railway can get pricey.

Total cost: From $2,635 per person

Norwegian Cruise Line

The Norwegian Bliss in Ketchikan, Alaska.

Courtesy of Norwegian Cruise Line

Norwegian Cruise Line offers one of the longest Alaska cruising seasons. In 2024, there are 44 scheduled cruise and cruisetour itineraries between April and October, ranging from seven to 18 days.

The June 3, 2024, sailing on Norwegian Jewel is Norwegian Cruise Line 's least expensive Alaska cruise that month, starting at $449 per person for an inside cabin. In comparison, a balcony cabin starts at $1,879 per person. The itinerary – Alaska: Hubbard Glacier & Skagway – embarks from Seward, Alaska, and includes scenic sea days cruising Hubbard Glacier and the Inside Passage, plus stops in the ports of Icy Strait Point, Juneau, Skagway and Ketchikan (Ward Cove) in Alaska, before disembarking in Vancouver, British Columbia.

The line's ongoing "Free At Sea" deal is included in the price and features an unlimited open bar, free specialty dining (up to $180 for the first two guests in the stateroom), a discount of $50 per excursion and complimentary Wi-Fi access (a savings of up to $200).

Open bar and specialty dining gratuities in the package are approximately $175 per person. Taxes, fees and port expenses are about $302 per person. You'll also need to include the additional $20 per person, per day service charge ($140 for the seven-day voyage).

If you book the balcony stateroom at $1,879 per person, which includes the "Free At Sea" package, and add in the taxes and port fees, dining and beverage gratuities and the daily service charge for the crew, the total cost for the cruise is around $2,500 per person. Remaining costs for shore excursions, specialty dining over $180, additional Wi-Fi usage, gratuities and other miscellaneous costs are not included in the "Free At Sea" package.

Total cost: From $2,496 per person

Royal Caribbean International

Royal Caribbean's Serenade of the Seas in Seattle.

Courtesy of Royal Caribbean International

Royal Caribbean International's 2024 Alaska cruise season extends from April to September; there are 50 scheduled cruise-only and land-and-sea tours. Combined pre- and post-cruise tours last up to 13 nights, and cruise-only itineraries last between six to eight nights.

For the lowest fare in June, sail from Seward, Alaska, to Vancouver, British Columbia, on a seven-night cruise aboard Radiance of the Seas on June 7, 2024. The higher level Value Wi-Fi Plan costs about $20 per person, per day, while the Premium Wi-Fi Plan comes in at around $21 per person, per day.

A nonalcoholic beverage package, Bottomless Bubbles, starts at around $10 per adult and around $7 per child each day. For nonalcoholic beverages and select alcoholic drinks (up to $20 each), purchase the Cheers package. It starts at about $60 per person, per day, but you can save 10% if you purchase the package before you sail. With Cheers, you'll also receive a discount on bottles of wine (plus other perks). Gratuities cost $16 per person, per day, in a regular stateroom. Restaurants like the Mexican-inspired BlueIguana Cantina and Guy's Burger Joint are complimentary.

When you add up the price of the balcony stateroom, port taxes and fees, the Value package for Wi-Fi access, the Cheers beverage package and gratuities, you're looking at around $2,600 per person for this Carnival Cruise Line itinerary. In addition to those expenses, you'll have to budget extra funds for shore excursions, specialty dining and some other amenities.

The intimate 596-guest ship will visit Ketchikan, Icy Strait Point, Skagway and Valdez in Alaska – and complete two days of scenic cruising – before disembarking in Seward.

The all-inclusive port-to-port fare starts at $4,350 per person for a Classic Veranda Suite (the most affordable suite category with a balcony). For a room with a window instead of a balcony, book a Vista Suite starting at $3,350 per person.

Silversea's all-inclusive fares include luxurious suite accommodations, Champagne upon arrival, butler service and other perks. The pricing covers port taxes and fees; complimentary gourmet dining; all beverages, including Champagne, wine, beer and premium spirits; and gratuities. Complimentary excursions in Skagway include a ride on the White Pass Scenic Railway, a visit to a sled dog and musher's camp and the Chilkoot Trail Hike & Float Adventure. Many of the included excursions with Silversea are quite costly on other lines.

Total cost: $6,599 per person (all-inclusive)

Bottom line

The low base fares for Alaska cruises on larger cruise lines may grab your attention, but as you click through to see what's included and make your booking, you'll find additional costs on nearly every page.

Before making a reservation, be sure to read the fine print and find out exactly what's included (and not included) in your cruise fare. You may find that booking an all-inclusive rate with a luxury line offers a better value – an option that you may never have considered unless you compared the total price of each cruise.

A Rejected NASA Prototype Inspired Omega’s White Speedmaster Moonwatch

White Omega Speedmaster MoonWatch

Eagerly awaited by die-hard Omega fans since the watch was spotted on Daniel Craig’s wrist at a New York exhibition in November 2023, Omega has finally unveiled a new version of its famous Speedmaster Moonwatch chronograph. It is the first of the current generation with a white dial, a high-contrast alternative to the classic black aesthetic. Crucially, it also follows in the footsteps of some of Omega’s most experimental vintage Speedmasters.

The 42-mm, $8,100 (£7,600) hand-wound watch joins the core collection of Speedmaster Professional references, making it the first time Omega has offered a white dial option outside of now-discontinued limited editions. Powered by the METAS-certified Master Chronometer calibre 3861—Omega’s flagship manual-winding movement, offering up best-in-class magnetic resistance and a 50-hour power reserve—inside the new Speedmaster is mechanically unchanged, yet the simple change of dial color places it in a tradition of highly desirable rare Speedmasters.

The first Speedmaster debuted in 1957. It was first worn in space by Mercury 7 astronaut Walter Schirra in 1962, but the Speedmaster Moonwatch traces its lineage to 1965, when the watch was officially certified by NASA as “flight-qualified” for all manned space missions.

White Omega Speedmaster MoonWatch

Omega's new Moonwatch chrono dial color places it in a tradition of highly desirable rare Speedmasters.

But the history of white-dialed Speedmasters begins in 1969, as NASA engineer Jim Regan worked with Omega to prototype improvements to the watches worn into orbit and to the moon. The brief was for a more shock-proof and temperature-resistant watch for use on lunar expeditions and EVA (extravehicular activities), or spacewalks—temperatures could reach 120°C (248°F) in the direct glare of the sun.

Omega responded with a prototype known as the Alaska project (nothing to do with the state, it was simply Omega’s in-house codename for all NASA-commissioned watches). Cased in titanium—at the time a rare, exotic, and demanding material to work with—it boasted an additional shielding case of anodized aluminum in bright red. Inside, Omega upgraded the movement with various new components, more durable polymers, and lubricating oils specially chosen for their resistance to heat. The white dial was a purely functional choice, for its ability to reflect more heat.

Rejected by NASA as too expensive, the Alaska stood out for its white dial with checkered inner flange and large, triangular chronograph hands. These resembled the Apollo reentry capsule, but were designed with a purpose: It was supposed to make the watch easier to read under extreme vibration.

The 6 Best Sunrise Alarms to Help You Rise and Shine

Closeup of OMEGA Alaska watch

The first titanium Project Alaska Omega watch had a shielding case of anodized aluminum in bright red.

Omega followed the first Alaska prototype with a second design the following year, cased in the conventional 42-mm Moonwatch case. It retained the oversize red aluminum outer case and white dial, while on this model the steel cases were bead-blasted rather than polished to reduce dazzling reflections. The “capsule” hands also remained, but in black, and the classic Speedmaster’s tachymeter bezel (most useful for tracking speed over a known distance; relatively impossible in space) was replaced by a 60-minute scale.

Despite its more conventional styling and cheaper production costs, NASA decided not to order the watch, preferring to stick with what it knew. The Alaska Project watches did eventually make it into space, however, worn by Soyuz 25 mission cosmonauts between 1977 and 1981.

A white dial would not grace another Speedmaster Moonwatch until 1997, when a commemorative limited edition was produced to mark the 40th anniversary of the Speedmaster, and it was only sold in Italy.

In 2008, a limited-edition Alaska Project homage was released, and others have since followed, including the Silver Snoopy of 2015. In 2021, a white-dial Speedy was released in Omega’s proprietary Canopus white gold.

But this new model in stainless steel (reference 310.30.42.50.04.001) is the most attainable white version so far. Today, Omega says the color scheme is a nod to astronauts’ space suits, which it may be—but for fans of the brand it will always relate back to those Cold War creations.

So important were the Alaska Project watches, they were also immortalized in MoonSwatch form in 2022, as the red-bioceramic-cased Mission to Mars.

There are a number of other touches that cement this new Speedmaster’s place as the spiritual successor to the Alaska Project watches: The red Speedmaster dial text is a subtle nod to the design of both Alaska models; and the glossy lacquer used for the dial (another small first for Omega-kind) is in its own way harking back to the highly reflective capabilities of those top-secret prototypes.

Equipped with a sapphire crystal, water-resistant to 50 meters, and machined to tolerances that engineers of the 1960s could only dream of, this is a thoroughly modern Speedmaster—but like all the best Speedmasters, it has a powerful connection to the past.
