Top Wildlife & Jungle Lodges
15 Top Wildlife and Jungle Lodges in India
There are some superb jungle lodges in India that provide unforgettable wildlife experiences. Many are dedicated to eco-tourism and conservation. If you're planning on going on safari, the choice of lodge becomes important as the quality of naturalists and transport varies. These lodges are all outstanding in terms of location, services, and activities. Some are well known, while others are off-the-beaten-track.
Jawai Leopard Camp, Pali District, Rajasthan
Jawai Leopard Camp offers the ultimate glamping experience in the untamed Rajasthan desert where leopards roam. This very exclusive and opulent experiential jungle lodge is surrounded by the Aravalli hills, halfway between Jodhpur and Udaipur. What makes it really unique is that the area is not part of a national park, so there are no restrictions. The property has just nine luxury tents in the wilderness. Although, calling them tents doesn't do them justice at all! If you really want to pamper yourself, stay in the royal suite with its own private heated swimming pool. Leopards aren't the only wildlife around. There are more than 170 species of birds and crocodiles. Jeep safaris, cycling, and treks offer the opportunity to see them. Other activities include village excursions, yoga and meditation, and day trips to Kumbhalgarh Fort and Ranakpur Jain Temple. Outdoor dining is also a highlight. Imagine eating dinner under the stars in a private granite kopje (outcrop). It's possible!
- Rates: From 58,000 rupees per night, plus tax. All meals are included.
Evolve Back, Kabini, Karnataka
Evolve Back (formerly the award-winning Orange County) sits on the edge of Nagahole National Park , surrounded by Karnataka's Kabini River. The philosophy is simple: provide an exquisite vacation and wildlife experience while preserving the nature and culture of the land. Guests are accommodated in 37 spacious huts, with the design inspired by tribal villages. Subtle on the outside but sublime on the inside, they either have their private swimming pool or open-to-the-sky Jacuzzi.
Facilities include reading lounge, Ayurvedic center, family swimming pool, and two gourmet restaurants. Guests can also dine by the riverside or on a candlelit cruise. Experiences offered include boat safaris and jeep safaris in the national park, coracle rides on the Kabini River, guided nature walks and night trails, and Kuruba tribal dances around the campfire. Spice Village, Thekkady, Kerala
An eco-friendly CGH Earth property, Spice Village is also themed on a tribal village. Its thatch-roof cottages are set amid 14 acres of spice trees close to Periyar National Park . Singinawa Jungle Lodge, Kanha, Madhya Pradesh
Named Most Inspirational Eco Lodge of the Year in the 2016 TOFTigers Wildlife Tourism Awards, stunning Singinawa Jungle Lodge showcases the region's unique tribal and arts culture. The lodge is unique because it has its own Museum of Life and Art, dedicated to tribal Gond and Baiga artisans, on the property. It's located on 110 acres of jungle and also undertakes many conservation initiatives. One of the special things about the lodge is that it offers a range of village experiences in addition to jungle safaris so that guests can connect with the local tribes and learn about their lifestyles. It's fascinating to be able to visit tribes in their village during the day and see them dressed up and performing their tribal dance at night. Gond tribal art lessons are also available.
Accommodations are provided in 12 rustic stone and slate cottages, plus a four-bedroom jungle bungalow, and a 2 bedroom jungle bungalow. Facilities include The Meadow spa with Indian and Oriental treatments and The Wallow swimming pool surrounded by nature.
- Rates : From around 16,000 rupees per night, plus tax. All meals are included.
Chitvan Jungle Lodge, Kanha, Madhya Pradesh
Chitvan Jungle Lodge is one of the top places to stay near Kanha National Park , and it's situated super close -- almost within walking distance of Mukki Gate. This secluded lodge is spread over 14 acres and does a wonderful job of blending in with its environment. The owners have converted farmland into a mini-forest with over 100 species of birds and butterflies. Their motto is "Conservation through Tourism" and the focus is on making tourism an alternate economy for the local community.
The idea behind Chitvan is to provide a retreat from worldy life -- with "chitt" being a product of the mind and ego, and "van" meaning forest. Guests can tame their minds among nature. The luxurious cottage accommodations have been named after various elements: Agni (fire), Prithvi (earth), Jal (water), and Akash (ether). All have magnificent views of the forest or farmland. Highlights are open showers, and private sit-outs and terraces. Meals are prepared using organic ingredients grown at the resort. Activities offered include jeep safaris in the national park, birding and butterfly spotting at the lodge, nature walks, tribal dances, bullock cart rides, and market visits.
- Rates: From around 6,500 rupees per night, plus tax. All meals are included.

It's around 30 minutes from the park's main entry gate (Khatia Gate). The lodge successfully blends eco-sensitivity and local village cooperation with a fantastic wilderness experience.
There are 12 independent luxury cottages for guests. Their design has been influenced by traditional Gond tribal architecture and locally available material has been used to build them. What's particularly notable about Kanha Earth Lodge is that it's managed by Pugdundee Safaris . The safaris conducted by this very reputable company really stand out in terms of knowledge and enthusiasm of naturalists, and maintenance and comfort of vehicles.

Samode Safari Lodge, Bandhavgarh, Madhya Pradesh
Samode Safari Lodge at Bandhavgarh National Park is part of the Samode Hotels portfolio -- a renowned luxury heritage hotel group from Rajasthan that's in the process of expanding. The group is best known for its magnificent flagship property, the 500-year-old Samode Palace near Jaipur , which opened as a hotel in 1987. A trip to Africa prompted the owners, who are descendants of the royal family of Samode, to create the lodge. Its architecture has been inspired by the colorful villages around it. There are 12 eco-friendly, gorgeously furnished cottages, as well as a dining room, library, recreation room, a fully equipped spa, and swimming pool.
Food is a big focus at Samode properties. At the Samode Safari Lodge, guests are treated to different dishes daily for lunch and dinner so that they can experience a range of cuisines. The dining locations change as well. The lodge's safaris are also highly rated. The lodge has its own jeeps and expert naturalists, which are possibly the best in the area. Wildlife conservation is taken seriously, and guests are shown a thought-provoking documentary about tigers and the problems they face in India.
- Rates: From around 66,000 rupees per night, plus tax. All meals are included.
Mahua Kothi, Bandhavgarh, Madhya Pradesh
A Taj property, also at Bandhavgarh National Park, Mahua Kothi derives its name from the Mahua or butter tree. The substantially sized lodge occupies 40 acres of land around 20 minutes from the park entrance. Best defined as rustic luxury, it has two parts: the original kothi (homestead) that's been beautifully renovated and serves as the common space for guests, and newly constructed guest accommodations. The 12 guest huts have been built in central Indian village style, and are accessed through private courtyards with traditional mud floors. The recreated village experience also includes an open kitchen, breakfast displayed on a bullock cart, traditional Indian games, kettles of boiling water on charcoal burners, and bicycles for guest use.
In addition to morning and afternoon jeep safaris, conducted using the lodge's own naturalists and vehicles, guests can also go on guided nature walks, village and school visits, and learn star gazing. Special mahua martinis, made from the tree's flowers, are served in the evenings.
- Rates: From around 35,000 rupees per night, plus tax. Breakfast is included.

This lodge is set on 44 acres of reclaimed jungle at the edge of the park. It has 12 independent guest cottages constructed out of cob in an arc around the lodge building, giving them unique vantage points into the landscape The lodge is made out of rammed earth and holds dining areas, a well-appointed library devoted to Indian wildlife, a lounge, several fireplaces, and a bar. Satpura National Park is an inspiring example of a park that doesn't just focus on the usual jeep safaris, although the lodge does offer them both during the day and at night. Other possible activities inside the national park include elephant safaris, canoe safaris, and walking safaris led by the lodge's naturalists. Notably, Satpura is one of two protected forests in India that visitors are allowed to walk through. The forest and hill cottages are built with local material and have private viewing decks and bay windows. The 30 acres of forest that the lodge occupies is blessed with thick trees, a wide meadow, seasonal stream, and watering holes that attract several species of birds and animals. It's pure delight for nature lovers! Bird watching, anthropology expeditions, jeep safaris, elephant safaris, boat safaris, canoeing and nature walks are all offered.
- From around 16,000 rupees per night, plus tax. All meals are included.
Sherbagh, Ranthambhore, Rajasthan
Sherbagh is a pioneering luxury tented camp situated on a family estate bordering Ranthambore National Park , one of India's top destinations for seeing a tiger . It was founded by a local family who's played an active part in wildlife conservation in the area for more than 40 years. When they bought the estate in the 1980s, it was barren, degraded and devoid of vegetation. With much care and attention, they've grown a healthy forest on it, filled with trees, grasses and other indigenous flora, birds, and animals.
The 12 luxury tents nestled on the property have been designed along the lines of the 1920s safari accommodations popular during the British Raj. Inside, they're decorated with classic colonial furniture. The lodge provides guests with a detailed introduction to Ranthambore, its wildlife, and conservation efforts. It has its own exclusive safari vehicles and teams of wildlife trackers, so you can be assured of the best safari experience. There's also a jungle spa, under the canopy of a holy peepal tree, that offers a range of treatments.
- Rates: From around 46,000 rupees per night, plus tax. All meals are included.
The Blackbuck Lodge, Velavadar National Park, Gujarat
Off the beaten track, The Blackbuck Lodge has a fabulously secluded position along the Velavadar Blackbuck National Park, near the Gulf of Cambay on Gujarat's west coast. This park was formerly the private grassland and hunting ground of the Maharaja of Bhavnagar. Now, it's protected area for blackbucks (spiral-horned antelopes) to inhabit. And, you can watch them from the privacy of the veranda at the back of your room.
The Blackbuck Lodge occupies 70 acres of untamed land. It has 14 luxury villas for guests, with chic interiors and stylish architecture. The lodge offers safaris into the park and excursions to surrounding tourist destinations.
- Rates: From around 12,000 rupees per night, plus tax. Breakfast included.
Asiatic Lion Lodge, Gir, Gujarat
Asiatic Lion Lodge opened in 2014 and offers eco-friendly accommodations near Gir National Park , where these lions roam. The lodge is a venture of Terra EcoTourism and the owners (who are keen wildlife photographers) have been in the hospitality industry for the past 20 years. It has a serene location, amongst nature near the village of Haripur, in the western part of the Gir jungle around six kilometers from Sasan Gir village (the entry point to the national park). Apparently, the lodge is the first eco-tourism property in the area.
There are 16 guest cottages, constructed in an environmentally friendly manner. The lodge's Flavors of Forest restaurant serves north Indian and regional Kathiawadi delicacies of Gujarat, cooked with organic ingredients where available. There's also the Forest Cafe, situated adjacent to a seasonal natural water pond. It's got a library with a wide variety of books on wildlife and is a great place to relax. In terms of activities, films on wildlife are shown every evening. Nearly 35 species of rare birds are often sighted in the area next to the lodge, and its naturalist takes guests on guided nature walks and bird watching walks. Other activities such as bicycle riding and visits to a nearby tribal village are possible, along with safaris into the national park.
- Rates: From around 4,000 rupees per night, plus tax. Breakfast is included.
Pench Jungle Camp, Pench, Madhya Pradesh
Pench Jungle Camp offers luxury tented and cottage accommodations on 12 acres of forest close to the entrance of Pench National Park. What's particularly notable is that it has its own 38 acre ecological park, bordering the buffer zone of the national park, that's home to a diverse range of wildlife and birds. Guest can explore it on foot or horseback, or by bicycle. The camp has its own naturalists who also conduct birdwatching trips, along with jungle safaris inside the national park. Facilities include lounge and library, swimming pool, and Ayurvedic spa.
- Rates: From around 6,000 rupees per night, plus tax. Breakfast is included.
KTDC Lake Palace, Thekkady, Kerala
The Lake Palace is not your usual government owned and operated property -- it's surprisingly special in a number of ways. First, the location. It's on Lake Periyar in the midst of Periyar National Park and is only accessible by a 20 minute boat ride. Second, it was the summer retreat of the kings of Travancore. It's an intimate property with only six guest rooms, built in 1927. The old-world ambiance has been retained. A drawback of this is that the rooms and bathrooms are quite old fashioned, but some may say it's part of the charm! All the rooms offer fantastic views of the lake and jungle, and it's not uncommon to see deer, elephants, and wild buffaloes from them!
Since it's situated inside the park, the Lake Palace has an advantage of offering exclusive nature-based activities from its premises. These include wildlife boat cruises, nature walks, and trekking, bamboo rafting, border hiking, elephant rides, and jungle patrols. Outside the property, additional activities are bullock cart rides, plantation tours, visits to tea factories, and shopping for spices at the local market.
- Rates: From 10,000 rupees per night, plus tax. All meals are included.

By Emma Specter
If it’s good enough for the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, it’s good enough for us. Perched on the fringe of Kaziranga National Park, Diphlu River Lodge offers 12 semi-detached cottages . Inspired by the architecture of local Mishing tribal homes, the cottages are raised on stilts and made of bamboo and wood, topped with thatched roofs. Head out on a jeep safari to spot the one-horned rhinoceros or hop on board a specially designed country boat that cruises down the Brahmaputra where you might catch a glimpse of the endangered Gangetic dolphins.
Evolve Back Kuruba Safari Lodge, Kabini
Inspired in design by the Hadis (hamlets) or tribal villages, the picturesque Evolve Back Kuruba Safari Lodge is bordered on two sides by the Kabini River. Splurge on the Pool Reserve Hut, which comes with lavish living areas, an indulgent bathroom, a temperature-controlled pool and a unique Star Bed (an open-air berth that’s perfect for stargazing). The resort offers jeep safaris in Nagarhole National Park, boat safaris on the Kabini River and even a ride down the river on a traditional round boat called a coracle.
Jim’s Jungle Retreat, Corbett
Soak in the forest experience at Jim’s Jungle Retreat located on the periphery of Jim Corbett National Park. 18 independent cottages channel the architectural style of the local pastoral Van Gujjar tribe with a generous sprinkling of British Raj flair. We recommend the Jungle Lodge, which offers spectacular views at a 15-foot elevation. Experiences include jeep safaris, cycling expeditions, heritage walks and even an overnight stay in the forest. After a long safari, lounge by the pool, relax in the library or rejuvenate yourself in the jungle spa.
Pench Tree Lodge, Pench
Pench in Madhya Pradesh is quintessential Jungle Book territory where, like Mowgli, you can run into Shere Khan (the tiger) and Baloo (the sloth bear). And Pugdundee Safaris’ Pench Tree Lodge with six treehouses and luxury cottages is the ideal base for your adventures. Perched at 18 feet above the ground, the spacious treehouses are made of local sal wood and come with a private sit-out deck and bay window lounger. Pench National Park is only 20 minutes away; apart from jungle safaris, there’s a host of activities to choose from like cycling, night trails , village walks and more.

Apart from jeep and motorboat excursions, you can also opt for walking, canoeing, cycling and camping safaris.
Sujan Jawai, Jawai Bandh
Dramatic granite rock formations make a spectacular backdrop for Sujan Jawai, a luxury wilderness camp that blends sophistication with ecology. The 10 tented suites have been recently upgraded and the new ensuite bathrooms now include a bathtub and a marble shower. For ultimate privacy, book the new Eden at Jawai, a two double-bedroom suite with a private entrance, jeep and butler, as well as a heated pool and a large deck. Track leopards on wilderness drives, explore the landscape on horseback and immerse yourself in the local culture on a guided walk with the Rabari tribespeople.

Ranthambore National Park is one of the best places in India to spot a tiger and The Oberoi Vanyavilas Wildlife Resort offers a luxurious setting for this experience. Bookmark these 7 safari lodges to experience the best of India's wildlife
By Nivedita Jayaram Pawar
Imagine waking up to the sun rising over the horizon and watching a herd of majestic elephants stroll past your camp; or sitting around an open fire, engulfed by the sounds of the animal kingdom and the clearest night sky overhead. There’s nothing quite like a safari experience—provided you pick the right property.
Here are some of the most luxurious safari lodges across the country, located near some of India’s most popular national parks.
Evolve Back Kuruba Safari Lodge, Kabini
The charming huts with expansive verandas, temperature-controlled private pools and marble bathtubs at the Evolve Back Kuruba Safari Lodge will make stepping out quite difficult. But the abundance of wildlife to spot at Kabini, bordering both Bandipur and Nagarhole National Park in Karnataka, will make it worth your while.
While at the lodge, enjoy your meals outdoors with beautiful views of the setting sun. There are three restaurants to indulge in here, but we’d recommend their boat dining experience. Indoors, find a corner at the scenic reading lounge facing the river, relax at the Ayurveda spa, take a dip in the infinity pool, or enjoy a nightcap at the well-stocked bar. You’re truly spoilt for choice here. If you’re lucky on a safari, you may spot elephants, leopards and even the elusive tiger. Kabini is also a birder’s paradise, thanks to its waterside location.
Pro Tip: Opt for a river safari on a gently bobbing boat on the Kabini river. It’s the best way to spot large herds of elephants and crocodiles. After a safari, unwind in the infinity pool, watching the sunset to the sounds of animals retreating for the night.

Diphlu River Lodge, Kaziranga
The bamboo and wood cottages at Diphlu River Lodge, located along the periphery of Kaziranga National Park in Assam, are raised on stilts and topped with thatched roofs to seamlessly blend in with the surrounding forest. Take your pick from the river-facing or paddy-facing options. There’s also a machan that’s perfect for bird watching, or to scan the opposite bank for wild animals. Laze around with a book and cup of Assam tea at the bamboo sit-out by the pond, or enjoy riverside and hilltop lunches, accompanied by dance performances by local residents.
Pro Tip: Don’t miss the river cruise on the Brahmaputra. A picnic lunch awaits on the other side.

Shergarh Tented Camp, Kanha
The six cozy tents here are outfitted with a large, comfortable bed, soft pillows and locally-crafted furniture. Each tent at the camp in Kanha National Park in Madhya Pradesh has its own veranda, where you can relax, enjoy the birdlife, sunbathe or gaze up at the stars. Meals of fresh salad lunches and delicious Indian dinners are served al fresco in the veranda, under the shade of a large mango tree. At the centre of the camp lies a spring-fed watering hole that attracts cormorants, kingfishers, herons, teal, waterhens and hundreds of breeding egrets. There’s a small raft for children to take out, and the adventurous ones can even enjoy a wild swim.
Pro Tip: When you return from a phenomenally high-octane safari, relax on the sofa by the water’s edge beside a roaring campfire. There’s also a river and an equally enchanting village to explore.

You can set off in search of the royal Bengal tiger, enjoy wild picnics, or just revel in the isolated tranquility of the setting, when the sun begins to set over the Chimur Hills. Meals are arranged on the rooftop gazebo or beside the lake.
Pro Tip: A night safari could bring you up close and personal with leopards, golden jackals, foxes, nightjars, owls and many others from the animal kingdom.

Mary Budden Estate, Binsar
The colonial-looking cottages here come with charming fireplaces and a promise of peace and tranquility. Mornings at Mary Budden Estate, a short drive from Binsar Wildlife Sanctuary in Uttarakhand, begin with a walk through dappled sunlight and sky-scraping trees in the dense forest that surrounds the property. A warm and comforting breakfast welcomes you back. Meals here are equally enthralling—lunch is a live grill in the forest, while dinner is served al fresco under a clear bed of bright stars.
Pro Tip: Ask for a picnic basket to feast on at the picturesque Mayolikhan, one of the most beautiful trails in the Binsar forest. Mayolikhan meanders through cedars and oaks, through little waterfalls and rock outcrops, and eventually ends in a well-concealed village.

Don’t be surprised to see wild boar, civets, jungle cats, jackals and spotted deer as you sip your morning tea or enjoy your evening sundowner on the private deck. The rooms at Pench Tree Lodge, at Pench National Park in Madhya Pradesh, are adorned with large French windows that open to a private sit-out deck and a bay window lounger that doubles up as a daybed. There’s also an infinity pool, which provides the ideal spot to lounge after a dusty drive.
Pro Tip: When you manage to peel yourself away from your luxurious, award-winning lodge, enjoy a leisurely walk to the local village and—more likely than not—get invited to visit a villager’s home to share a cup of tea.

What to expect from a trip to India
Harriet was a great source of advice throughout the planning and the trip. We had many changex and she was patient and flexible in adjusting the itinerary. It was the second trip with her as the Specialist and it won’t be the last. Guides were great!! Loved the vibe and the excellent expertise. Thanks again for creating this memorable experience. Hotels were superb, luxurious but in time and with a local touch. Would have loved to stay longer in each of them.
Dealing with NWS is always a very easy and pleasant experience. You get it dead right for us each and every time we travel with you. We wouldn't even dream of using another agent ever again!
Harriet was fantastic to work with in putting together our dream trip. She turned around an incredibly quick and extraordinarily competitive itinerary for us when we had been let down elsewhere and managed all of our queries quickly and calmly. She was a pleasure to deal with and extremely helpful. This trip was a ten out of ten. We felt incredibly well looked after and utterly immersed in everything we saw. Fabulous local guides and naturalists at every turn ensured we took so much knowledge and appreciation home with us along with brilliant memories. The perfect introduction to this beautiful country. Did I mention we saw a tiger? We'd love to travel again with such brilliant destination information and on-the-ground teams combined with a competitively and sensibly priced approach.
Overall experience was magical and your whole team were very attentive and helpful. The guides were excellent and went above and beyond to make our trips and flights as easy and comfortable as possible. We were delighted with our entire experience!
We have always had excellent experiences with Natural World Safaris.

Know Your Host
The famous Jehan Numa group of Hotels in Madhya Pradesh owns this Retreat in the forests of Satpura. Their wildlife offerings as Jeha numa Retreat Bhopal, camping with Satpura Under Canvas, Reni Pani Lodge and Bori Safari Lodge are clubbed under the Jeha Nnuma Wilderness brand. The wildlife experiences are managed by Aly Rashid with his team of young and efficient managers and naturalist. Aly is an experienced naturalist; taking a safari with him into the forests is to learn from his years of travels into the jungle and the Satpura landscape. He also leads some interesting wildlife trips around the world, including the Singalila for red panda and to Ladakh for the snow leopard.
Bori Safari Lodge is designed keeping in mind the modern comforts for a contemporary traveller, and being in sync with the natural surrounds. Very different from other lodges of the same group or elsewhere in the Indian forests, the lodge is a charmingn mix of art and design that celebrates the space it is on.
Even at first glance you can see the elemental quality of the design - the spaces, open to large expanses of farm and nature, sky overhead, a water body and the sense of light everywhere. The eight rooms are in four clusters of two room cottages elevated to accommodate the monsoons, which is known to cause flooding of this region. The luxury is in the simplicity and the gentle colours and, interesting pieces of art that surround you in every room. Add to that the bountiful nature, which is just outside the large high doors that can be stacked to the side, for an uninterrupted view of the farms. Waking up to the dawn chorus from your bed in this beautiful setting is sheer bliss.
Each suite has a generous space with infinite detail. The aesthetics are simple and elegant. I, it is raining, it is heavenly to sit in your room and sip your coffee. Enjoy the serene ambience of the farmlands from the deck of your private dwelling!
The public areas of the lodge allow a seamless sync with the outdoors at all times. Plenty of open spaces, large windows in the dining area and an uncluttered feel is what makes Bori Safari Lodge special. As you ascend the steps into the lodge to a warm welcome, a cold or hot towel and a minty tea is offered. Almost immediately, you are in the large courtyard where a healthy Palash tree holds centre stage. This courtyard that in good weather promises to be a beautiful outdoor dining, is the defining space of the lodge. It sets the tone for everything around it and, also links the key Jehanuma details. The tea cart onto the side is an invitation to 'chai' whenever you want. The lounge and bar on the other side which is also where the naturalist or Lodge Manager will update, regale and share with you their knowledge of the forests of Satpura. The dining is simple and open, almost contrasting to what comes to your table - . different cuisines served as multiple courses, fresh ingredients sourced from their own kitchen gardens and grown around. Decks and courtyards and large open windows spell 'outdoors, under-the-sky' again and again.
On the other side of the courtyard are the bridge-like trails that take you to your cottages. The walk is through thriving farms that are dotted with young trees that will soon add to a healthy canopy of indigenous trees, an invitation for birds, civets, shrews and other creatures of the wild.
Each of the eight rooms at Bori Safari Lodge is 525 sq. ft. and can comfortably accommodate a family of two adults and two children. T, the adjacent room is perfect, if it is a family with older children. The suite is a generous space with fine detailing multiple plug-points ( its absence is quite an irritant for photographers ), a king-sized bed with reading lights, and ante-room with a wardrobe and luggage space, and twin vanities leading to individual shower space and toilet. The tea and coffee station offers the option of freshly brewed coffee and a jar of homemade cookies.
The in-house restaurant is the chic dining hall, which moves into the courtyard when the weather allows it. The lodge offers pre-plated menus with a great variety of fresh greens, salads, local delicacies and a smattering of Asian and continental cuisines. All ingredients used are sourced from local farmers and markets. The very talented chef ensures that they suit different palates. It also allows the lodge to contribute economically to the local communities. The outdoor dinner 'Boma’ "experience is unique to Bori as the naturalists have designed it to make it an interesting wilderness experience.
The in-house spa offers massages which are great to revive you after a long day on a safari. Enjoy time swimming in the pool with nature all around, or just relax on the deck This is the perfect spot to cool off in the summers, when nature trails are best to spot wildlife. Spend time in the wonderfully curated library with books on wildlife, birds and general interest as well.
Activities include a game drive in a 4X4 jeep with a seasoned naturalist, who reads the forest through tracks and signs. Buffer rides around the main wildlife sanctuary can be done any time of the day. It turns out to be more rewarding sometimes in terms of spotting animals.
Nature walks and birding orientation around the property is organised with the help of naturalists and experts.

Tiger spotting on Indian safari
India Safaris
India is an incredibly diverse country for scenery and wildlife, containing steamy jungles and rain forests, large deserts, wide open plans and vast tracts of remote, unexplored mountains. In terms of safaris, India has a number of destinations that will give the enthusiastic wildlife spotter a lot to get excited about. Whilst India doesn’t have the density of large mammals on display that you can find in parts of Africa, it does have some unique species that you simply can’t see anywhere else in the world. Tourism is fairly well developed in India too, with a number of safari lodges and safari tour companies laying on “traditional” African style safari experiences, albeit with an Indian twist.
With over 360 species of mammals and 1,200 bird species, India has one of the richest biodiversity counts in the world. The signature species of India are tiger, leopard, elephant, rhino , bear, buffalo, monkey and antelope, all of which roam the central and southern plains. These animals are complemented by lions in a couple of Indian national parks in the east, where you can see lions, tigers and leopard coexisting if you’re particularly lucky on your safari! Further a field, if you fancy a mountain safari the Himalayas are home to the enigmatic snow leopard, yaks, blue sheep and the two humped camel. As such it’s no surprise that India as a wildlife spotting destination has really taken off in the past couple of decades, making it a credible alternative to a safari in Africa if you want to try something a bit different.
Despite such riches of wildlife, habitat destruction and conflict with humans is becoming an increasing problem, and one which the government is trying to tackle by creation of more protected areas and national parks. Existing national parks in India tend to be out of the way with poor infrastructure and roads to get there. Pubic transport is often not an option, though you can get to the nearest town and take a taxi or auto-rickshaw from there to the park. Most hotels near national parks will be able to arrange transfers to the park, where you’ll be able to organize a jeep tour (or elephant, boat, walking, camel etc.). Bear in mind that the price of a safari arranged at a national park are one of the few things in India that are non-negotiable, and are generally higher for non-Indian residents.
India Safari Highlights
- Ride an elephant out into the Brahmaputra floodplains to get up close and personal with families of Indian one horned rhino in Kaziranga National Park, Assam.
- Take a tiger safari to try and spot an elusive huge cat in one of India’s premier national parks – Bandhavgarh, Corbett, Ranthambore or Kahna.
- Explore the swamps and wetlands of the Sundarbans National Park, a UNESCO world heritage site that’s home to the world’s largest tidal mangrove forest, a unique culture…and the Bengal tiger.
Best Time To Go On Safari In India
The best time to go on safari in India will vary according to where in the country you’re planning on going. Generally speaking India has three seasons – the hot, the monsoon and the cool, with the time each season starts and ends depending on how far north or south you are. The cool season is the most pleasant time to visit India, and starts once the monsoons finish, running from October to January. From February onward the heat starts to rise across the country, with temperatures in some places reaching 40 degrees by May. June is monsoon month, starting with high humidity and short electrical storms. These storms morph into intense daily rains with short breaks where the sun breaks through and steams the wet conditions into something akin to a turkish bath.
For safaris, the hot season offer the best wildlife viewing as water is scarce and animals congregate around water holes as vegetation dies down. The later in the hot season you can go, the better for wildlife spotting, but this needs to be balanced with the growing heat through the season.
A couple of other things to bear in mind when considering when to go on safari in India are holidays and festivals. Christmas and New Year are extremely busy times for tourism in India, with full national parks and hotels requiring reservations well in advance. And while festivals happen all the time across India, there are some – Diwali and Holi in particular – that can make for travel chaos nationwide, so do your research on which festivals are happening when and where , and plan ahead accordingly.
Safari Lodges in India
In many parts of the country India is heavily focused on tourists – both internal and inbound. Towns and villages around popular national parks tend to have the full host of safari accommodation – from$5 rooms to ulta-chic safari lodges that (occasionally) replicate the real thing in Africa. Most lodges have good restaurants on the premises, though you’ll only find decent standard western food at high-end accommodation, and even then it’s pot luck.
India Safari Tours
India caters to just about every type of tourist imaginable, and there’s a huge selection of safari tour companies that can arrange safaris locally, regionally, nationwide or even internationally (primarily into Nepal). It’s well worth shopping around and doing thorough research before committing to a particular safari tour company in India, as the quality of service varies dramatically. As a general rule you get what you pay for, and most prices can be bartered down at least 20%. Have a read of our reviews of safari tour companies in India .

The resort looks like a natural place with greenery around and very quite and plesent atmosphere.
Staffs are all super friendly and hospitality. Room and the hotel common area are all nice, clean and comfy.
Great location for a leopard safari. Lovely clean room with a balcony and a good bathroom. Nice pancakes at breakfast too.
- good Banana Pancakes for breakfast, though they took a while to prepare - nice balcony with interesting rocking chairs
Perfect getaway for winter with friends and family. The leopard safari is a must. Staff support was excellent. The property manager looked into every request personally. Rooms are spacious and clean. Always go for the rooms with balcony. The room service staff deserve a special mention. Always available to pick up our requests.
We thoroughly enjoyed our short stay at the Ranakpur Safari Resort. It was the perfect location for visiting the Jain temple and for a wonderful jeep safari which was arranged by the hotel. The staff were attentive and very welcoming. We enjoyed an early morning cup of chai and banana before setting out on the safari. The food was good. Our room was charming and comfortable, with a small veranda giving onto the garden.
Great experiance and i wudsay ur stay become more comfortable if ur hosting is good Appreciation for Mr abhishek d resort manager.....for making my stay n trip memorable wd facilities thank u again...keep doing d good work
Prijeten hotel med zelenjem, z bazenom. Hrana super, organizirajo safari. Blizu templja.

How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (i.e. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
Guidelines and Standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

All the hotels were nice with a great variety of breakfast included. For me the trip was fantastic everything was extremely well organised and was the perfect mix of cultural immersion, nature and other activities. Overall very very happy.

Essence of Rajasthan & Tiger - 11 Days
Great planned out program I traveled with my class and class teachers from Denmark. We had some amazing 12 days, with a great planned program, so we got to see different cities in north India. Also had a very nice and helpful tour-guide. Overall a great experience!
Jungle Safari Adventure: Ranthambore & Golden Triangle from Delhi
Outstanding trip but unfortunately Ranthambore park was not open but still we enjoyed the time in India. Our operator already informed me about Ranthambore but as we wouldn't be able to come again in India for a long so decided to go with the tour. We had a great time in India and we would love to come again in 2024
Bandhavgarh Kanha Pench Tour
Our family had a customized tour that included all three national parks for tiger safaris as well as the traditional golden triangle tour. We had 2 different drivers during the tour that picked us up at the airport or drove us to the next location. The drivers were always early, extremely friendly and helpful, and the cars were immaculate. We stayed at six different hotels that were picked out for us. They were all very nice and I would stay at them again. The guides at each location were very knowledgeable and friendly. The company itself stayed in contact with me throughout the trip to make sure I did not need anything. I would highly recommend this company. This tour was much more flexible and convenient than participating in a group tour where everyone has to keep up with a group pace.
Ranthambore Tiger Experience 5D/4N (from Delhi)
Once at the hotel near Rathenbourne the trip was well planned and carried out. The young man who met us at the station, Arbaz, was courteous and on time. The hotel was lovely and the staff could not have been more helpful, even changing the menu for dinner to suit our western tastes. Arbaz was contactable throughout our stay and was always on time. He gave very good service and is a credit to the company. I would have liked a little more information about getting the train at Nizamuddin station, being prepared for such long trains would have been an advantage. Although there was a representative on the station platform he only made himself known to us once we had reached the carriage. On returning to Dehli Arbaz stayed with us on the platform until the train arrived. The other guide had a larger party and stayed with them. On reaching Dehli the taxi driver was waiting for us as arranged. Once in the taxi he was eager to show us the sights of Dehli and despite repeated requests to go to the hotel, he continued to ask about shopping/eating/which monuments we wanted to see and the journey from station to hotel took one hour and fifteen minutes and the traffic was clear. The hotel used for the end of the tour needs some consideration for the future. Although the room was lovely, even though it didn’t have a window, some of the staff were less than courteous. The breakfast offered was not suited to European guests added to which there was no coffee on offer. Most of the equipment was in need of a through clean.
From Delhi: Golden Triangle Private Tour with Ranthambore
I had a great ranthambore tour with golden triangle tour. I had take couple of safari rides and saw the tiger once. Safari w Ride was adventurous. I also explored Taj Mahal which was main attraction and I visited Delhi and Jaipur. I enjoyed everywhere and tour guide was very good in each city.
11 Days of India's popular wildlife Safaris with Romantic Taj Mahal Tour(ALL INCLUSIVE)
No word to say about this tour because when we booked a trip to India with 11 Days of India. I really enjoyed the wildlife safaris that we did. They were very informative and gave us a lot of information about the animals we were seeing. The Taj Mahal tour was also really beautiful. The guide Mr.Hemender was very knowledgeable, and very intellegent he made the tour very interesting. It was great to see the place from such a different perspective. Overall, I had an amazing time on this trip, and I would definitely recommend it to others. Thanks to India and thanks to mytravelcon Team.

Famous 10 Days Golden Triangle Tour with Udaipur and Ranthambore(ALL INCLUSIVE)
-------------------------- We Started our trip from Delhi but our flight was delayed many hours. But our Driver Rizwan waited us a long without losing his patience. We sent a message to the manager of Travelcon,Himendra and he was in touch with our driver.Himender made all the necessary arrangements and provided us a wonderful experience. During the tour, we could able to see many ancient temples, wonderful Palaces and my lovely Taj Mahal. The hero of the trip was our Driver,Rizwan and our guide and friend, Ankik(our Private Guide) who accompanied us through out the tour.We felt that someone from our family member is taking us to the tour.He was a young and a wonderful talker. His knowledge made him different and that made our trip better. We would definitely hire him again and of course Travelcon for our future holidays in In
What people love about Tiger Tours in India
We had a great time in India. The tour manager Mr. Amit was very responsive to all my questions and issues prior to the trip and was waiting for us to greet us at the first hotel. Our driver Mr. Vikram was great too. He was very professional and was always on time waiting for us each day. We absolutely loved our local guide in Jaipur. He was so professional, knowledgeable and quick that we felt we were very well taken care of. Now here’s the reason I can’t give 5 stars to this tour. It was the hotel in Jaipur and the local guide in Delhi. The hotel was not up to the standard of 3 stars at all. The bathroom was disgusting, moldy and gross. They called us around 10pm asking us to order room service both nights we stayed. It was the most horrible service that I have ever experienced at any hotels around the world. Now the local guide in Delhi, he made us decide to say goodbye after 3 hours. We never had a problem tipping people at all until the rickshaw ride (which was included in the tour). It was such a turn off moment for us when the guide asked us to tip them 200 for a 200 ride. He was also on the personal phone calls a lot, which made us feel that he really didn’t want to be there at all for us. We had to call it a day.
Something really neat to do every day with some of the things out of this world...Like elephant ride up elephant ramps to 400 year old Amber Fort in Jaipur, seeing tigers on two different safaris at Ranthambore and daybreak at Taj Mahal that looked like a ghost or hologram floating on the horizon. Car and driver for 7 days, English speaking guides where needed. Good breakfasts and decent accommodations. .I especially liked the one at Ranthambhore. The guide that gave the tour of old Delhi felt like a friend and he made this part surprisingly enjoyable Yay Khushal! I met Sanjeev Paul, The owner of Fragrance of Taj and liked him.
