RAF Sergeant turned travel agent plans to launch adventure tour operator

chris pratt not just travel

A travel agent who trained alongside Prince William in the RAF wants to start his own tour operator business, offering off-the-beaten track adventures.

Hertfordshire-based Chris Pratt launched his travel agency business with Not Just Travel in August 2021 after leaving the RAF, but now plans to open a new company called Travel Antares.

He will launch the tour operator at the end of June or in July as soon as he has received his ATOL and built the travelantares.co.uk website.

Chris said Travel Antares will offer trips to ‘pretty much anywhere’ but added the main destinations will be Africa, Caribbean, Mauritius, Europe and French Polynesia.

“I have worldwide travel experience, so I am not going to pigeon-hole myself,” he said, adding that Travel Antares will offer honeymoons and weddings overseas.

“One of the big destinations that caught me by surprise is French Polynesia,” he said. “People think it is out of their reach in terms of cost, but I know where to look and book.

“I’ve booked a lot of French Polynesia trips for around half the price the customers expect.”

He believes he has got some clients that will follow him across to Travel Antares.  “At the moment, I’ve got 10 to 20 honeymoon enquiries in the pipeline,” he added.

“But I am not going to stop them booking so they book with Travel Antares. It all depends on when they want to book.”

Chris started to think about launching a tour operator when ‘two or three’ suppliers refused to book a trip for him due to poor flight connectivity.

At the time, he was trying to book flights from Tanzania to the Maldives for a couple who wanted a twin-centre trip for their honeymoon.

Chris said: “I want to become a tour operator that focuses on adventure and weddings. It will be about inspiring people to get away from the normal experience.

“The best trip that I’ve put together was for a couple but the suppliers who I approached turned me down. The couple wanted to go on safari and then go to the Maldives but there were no direct flights.

“The suppliers kept saying ‘no one does that [journey]’, but you could say that about a lot of trips.

“Being turned away was really frustrating.”

Finally, Chris approached Classic Collection which booked the couple on a flight to the Maldives from Tanzania via Doha, Qatar. The booking was worth around £19,000.

“[That experience] encouraged me to start my own tour operator business,” he added.

Chris left the RAF in 2020, bringing the curtain down on a 12-year career, which saw him spend 10 years on the frontline.

He completed seven tours in Afghanistan, Iraq and Mali before he was diagnosed with Post-traumatic stress disorder.

“The diagnosis came too late,” he said. “I just wanted to get out of the RAF by then.”

Chris met the future king when he trained to be a crew man in Shawbury, Shropshire, in 2009.

“He was on the course ahead of me, training to be helicopter pilot,” said Chris. “He would join our course from time to time because he needed to catch up after various royal engagements.”

Chris remembers being ‘in charge’ of the now-Prince of Wales for half an hour during the course.

“We had to talk about what defined us,” he said. “I remember William drawing a picture of him on the throne. We all thought that was a bit presumptuous.

“But he had also drawn some water underneath with a Sea King helicopter that he was going to fly.”

Photos, supplied by Chris, show him in action in Norway.

Chris Pratt Shares His Best Camping Tips — and Mistakes to Learn From

"Just because you're 'roughing it' in the great outdoors, doesn't mean you have to leave all of your creature comforts at home," he said.

chris pratt not just travel

Whether he's venturing into the Andromeda Galaxy in 'Guardians of the Galaxy' or to the dinosaur-filled "Isla Nublar" in 'Jurassic World,' actor Chris Pratt 's true sense of adventure comes from off-screen in the time he's spent outdoors.

And even though there weren't times without mishaps or a learning experience, he started regularly hiking and camping at a young age near his home in Lake Stevens, Wash., in close vicinity to the Cascade Mountains with his family.

"My earliest memory of spending time in the great outdoors is when I was 3," Pratt recalled to Travel + Leisure. "My dad was working at a gold mine in Alaska. He and my mom brought the three kids out into the wilds of Alaska for the entire summer. We slept in makeshift cabins, explored, fished, sat around the campfire and ate, and laughed. It was incredible."

And although he has fond memories of campfires and being under the stars, some times are admittedly not so positive, like the time the 42-year-old drained his car battery unexpectedly while powering a much-needed space heater.

"I had to hitchhike back to town, which is difficult when you're dirty and you have a hatchet hanging off your belt," he told T+L. "Nobody wants to pick up that guy!"

Describing himself as an "ultra outdoorsy person," Pratt, has definitely got some tips and tricks for a successful time outdoors. And if the aforementioned experience has taught him anything, it's to be prepared — which is why he's teamed up with solar generator Jackery on its new portable Solar Generator 2000 Pro .

"I know green energy is always accessible without compromise, wherever I want to go, and all I need is the sun," he said of the device that powers up in 2.5 hours with sunlight to store 2,160 watt-hours and generate 2,200 watts AC power with eight power outlets.

"That's a lot. I can literally power up all of my devices at the same time," he added, calling the device "a game-changer."

With conveniences like this, he hopes to inspire others to immerse themselves in nature.

"Just because you're 'roughing it' in the great outdoors, doesn't mean you have to leave all of your creature comforts at home," he explained. "A durable and portable solar generator is great because you can power up gear and lighting, charge devices, cook with an electric stove, stream your favorite show — even if it's a tutorial about how to set up your tent — without having to compromise or deal with the noise and fumes of a gas-powered generator."

For Pratt, the extra power has even helped him upgrade his camping routine to include sound machines and waffle makers, he noted, encouraging others to also find the touches that make them feel at ease.

"A lot of people think camping needs to be something totally remote and uncomfortable unless you're a hardcore outdoors person — but in reality, anyone can live life to their outdoorsiest," the former 'Everwood' star said. "Especially in the last few years as people ventured outside when so many indoor spaces were closed, camping took on a new, more modern meaning, that's more about connecting with nature without sacrificing the things that make you comfortable and happy."

He advises first-time campers to start small, maybe just by setting up a tent next to a car, or perhaps by choosing an untraditional location, like his favorite — a farm.

"It's a wonderful, private experience," he said. "There's a lake there for fishing, and it's always nice to be around animals."

Pratt just welcomed his second child with wife Katherine Schwarzenegger, and although it may be too soon to tell if their new addition will also love the outdoors, the actor has passed down the tradition of getting outside to his 9-year-old son, Jack.

"Teaching him how to fish has been one of the great joys of my life," Pratt said. "He's getting good!"

The Tomorrow War Ending Explained: What Happens And What It Means

The following contains spoilers for The Tomorrow War *_ . *_

Perhaps considering that The Tomorrow War is a movie about time travel, it's not that weird that a movie that takes place largely at Christmas time opened in the middle of the summer. Of course, the film was delayed from its original holiday release in 2020, to become one of the big summer 2021 movies while also releasing on Amazon Prime Video rather than in theaters. However, while the screen may be smaller than intended, the action is not. The movie is as big a science fiction action blockbuster as we've seen recently, and everything about the film is just as big, and that includes The Tomorrow War ending.

Since Chris Pratt 's The Tomorrow War is a time travel movie, in which humans from the future come back in time to recruit people to fight in a last ditch effort to save the entire world from an alien threat, it wouldn't be too surprising if things got a little confusing. Time travel tends to do that. And so, let's break down the ending of The Tomorrow War and what it all means to the future of humanity.

yvonne strahovski the tomorrow war amazon

How The Tomorrow War Ends

The Tomorrow War follows Dan Forester ( Chris Pratt ) as he gets drafted into the future war against vicious aliens. While there, he meets his own daughter Muri, now all grown up ( Yvonne Stahovski ) and a colonel in the military, and he tries to help her find a way to destroy the aliens by discovering a toxin capable of killing them.

They are successful in finding a solution to the alien threat, and Dan is going to take the toxin back home so that it can be mass produced before the aliens actually arrive on earth, potentially preventing the entire war from ever happening. Unfortunately, the stakes are raised when Dan watches Muri die at the hands of the alien creatures before being sent home.

When Dan returns, the link to the future has closed, causing humanity to have a bit of a freak out. Nobody is quite sure what to do and concerns are focused on the here and now and not the future, so Dan tries to figure out where the aliens came from so humanity can be waiting with its killer toxin when they do. However, in trying to figure out exactly when the aliens arrive on earth, and thanks to a very helpful suggestion from his wife, Dan and his friends eventually discover that the aliens have been on earth all along.

CINEMABLEND NEWSLETTER

Your Daily Blend of Entertainment News

Evidence is discovered that the alien threat landed on earth in the planet's distant past, and somehow became frozen in a glacier in Russia. Eventually, global warming will cause glacial melt to the point that the creatures will thaw out, and then the war will begin. Nobody in a position of authority is willing to support his plan so Dan enlists his estranged father ( J.K. Simmons ), because he has a plane, to help get them to Russia and check it out.

Eventually Dan and a small squad he met on his future deployment discover the alien spaceship. It crash landed on earth and was frozen over. More interestingly, it's discovered that the viscous aliens, the "white spikes" as they're called, are actually a biological weapon. They were bred by another alien race, apparently with the specific purpose of destroying life on other planets.

In the end, Dan's team blows up the alien ship, with many sacrificing themselves in the blast, but there are simply too many of the creatures to take out with the toxin they have. One female escapes the blast, and eventually Dan and his father are able to track it down and destroy it. The future appears to be saved and the aliens have been defeated.

What The Ending Means For Chris Pratt's Character And His Family

While the more immediate stakes of The Tomorrow War surround saving the human race from extinction, for Chris Pratt's character, it's ultimately about his family. His ultimate goal is to save his daughter's future, and if the rest of the world gets saved along with it, so be it.

Of course, things get a little interesting in that regard, when Dan Forester learns about his own future from his grown up daughter. The way time travel works in The Tomorrow War is that, despite having traveled to the future from his daughter's past, his adult daughter's memories are of an original timeline, what would have happened if the time travel had never occurred. In that timeline, we learn that Dan eventually divorced his wife and left his family, and ultimately died young in a car accident.

While we never learn the exact causes of Dan's decisions, the implication is that Dan feels he never accomplished the great things he felt he should have been able to do, that perhaps he saw himself as a failure. This idea is especially difficult for Dan to accept, because he cut ties with his own father after he also walked away from his family. His dad explains that at one point he was suffering from PTSD following the Vietnam War, and felt that leaving was preferable to staying and possibly doing something terrible.

Dan's victory against the aliens, something that did not happen in his daughter's original timeline, combined with his own knowledge of what he did in that timeline, have seemingly led him to a different place. Dan has reconciled with his own father, and he promises he will not leave his family. And, if Dan truly felt he needed to accomplish something great to have value, he's literally saved the world.

chris pratt the tomorrow war amazon

How Does The Tomorrow War Really End?

It looks like everything is about as close to "happily ever after" as they can get for Chris Pratt's character in The Tomorrow War . The war will never happen in the future. Muri Forester will, therefore, not die at the hands of the aliens. And, because the future will no longer progress as it did "originally," it's implied that Dan Forester will not leave his family in the future, so he will not die while his daughter is still a teenager.

Except we can't really know that for sure. Since we never really understand the circumstances of Dan leaving, we can't be sure that they still won't happen. What's more, the earth is still going to have to deal with having been involved in the future war, and all the lives that were lost, even though it won't be happening in the future. There's certainly no guarantee that Dan won't be dealing with his own PTSD after what he went through, which could make things difficult for his family.

In the end, not knowing what the future holds is perhaps all anybody can hope for. The worst possible future will not happen, and for the rest, maybe simply being aware of the possibilities will help prevent them from taking place.

Chris Pratt’s travel essentials and his killer combo for beating jetlag

It’s been a busy 12 months for Chris Pratt. Late last year, he got engaged to author Katherine Schwarzenegger. (Yes, she’s the 29-year old daughter of Maria Shriver and former California Governor “Ah-nold” Schwarzenegger.) The couple are in the midst of preparing for the nuptials, which is set for some time in the last quarter of 2019. Of course, Pratt also figured in the mega blockbuster Avengers: Endgame two months ago. (If you haven’t seen it by now, that’s on you.) And the 39-year-old is set to reprise his role as Star-Lord in the next installment of Guardians of the Galaxy , which is part of phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. (Good luck figuring out when that actually is.)

Pixar also recently announced that he will star in their next big film Onward alongside fellow MCU actor Tom Holland. “I’m going to go shoot a cool new sci-fi movie called Ghost Draft later this year,” he adds. “I’m not sure where exactly we will be filming but I’m excited for you all to see it when it’s finished!”

Tumi also recently got Pratt to be the face of their latest campaign for Asia Pacific and the Middle East. Featuring the brand’s Alpha 3 and Alpha Bravo collections, the campaign includes a journey film that documented his first-ever trip to Hong Kong for the launch. During the party, he also debuted his virtual avatar on the new Tumi Club App, which helps users track their luggage.

“I’m blessed to have a job that allows me to travel so much,” Pratt shares. “Because I travel so frequently and for long periods of time if I’m off to shoot a film on location, I need luggage that can take a beating without falling apart.” The actor shared more about his travel preferences in the Q&A below:

Where in Asia have you been to?

I’ve been to China , Japan , Korea , and now Hong Kong for the first time. The people are so kind here. I had a chance to see the cherry blossoms in bloom in Japan. That was a bucket list thing for me to get to see them. And we had such good sushi—we went to Sukiyabashi Jiro which was incredible. We also had fun singing karaoke. The last time I was in Shanghai we got to take a private boat ride on the Huangpu River which was amazing.

What’s your favorite destination?

I love visiting Hawaii . There is something very special about the islands—it feels almost spiritual for me. Plus, it’s where I got discovered. I was living out of a van, working at Bubba Gump Shrimp in Maui when an actress walked in (Rae Dawn Chong), and she put me in a movie. The rest is history—I bought a one-way ticket to Los Angeles and never looked back. I’ve recently had the opportunity to spend more time in Hawaii again because we shot the Jurassic World films there. That said—I’m loving my trip to Hong Kong.

What do you do as soon as you land at a destination?

I usually try to work out as soon as I arrive. It helps me to get my blood circulating to help fight jet lag.

Favorite traveling companion?

My son, Jack.

What do you like to do to relieve stress when you’re shooting overseas?

I try to go fishing or golfing whenever I can. That helps me to decompress. I love the outdoors. It’s my happy place to be out in nature.

What five things you can’t travel without?

My Rubik’s Cube, my laptop, a note, drawing, or toy from my son, exercise resistance bands to workout, my necklace, and my Alpha 3 brief pack.

What’s the best—and worst—thing about traveling?

Best thing about traveling is getting to see so many amazing places around the world. I would not say there is a “worst” thing about traveling since it truly is such a privilege to have the opportunity to do so—but I definitely get a bit annoyed if my flight is delayed and I’m stuck at the airport for hours.

What’s your favorite in-flight drink?

Tequila on the rocks with lime.

What’s your preferred entertainment on a long flight, or would you rather just sleep?

Usually both. I’ll try to use the time on a long flight to catch up on reading scripts or watching movies. I’ll also sleep too especially if it’s an overnight flight so that I can try to land and have an easier time adjusting to the different time zone.

Chris Pratt’s travel essentials and his killer combo for beating jetlag 4

What do you wear on trips?

Usually a baseball cap with athletic wear and sneakers so that I can be comfortable on the plane.

Do you have a secret to beating jetlag?

Working out and lots of coffee!

When was the last time you travelled for fun—and where?

I have a farm up in the San Juan Islands off the coast of Washington State in the US. It’s so beautiful. I love going up there when I have time off to unplug and enjoy nature.

Tips for staying healthy when travelling?

Trying to steer clear of too much sugar and bread. Of course it’s so fun to taste all the local cuisines of where you are visiting, but moderation is really key.

If you could go on holiday to any of the places portrayed in your movies, where would you go?

So many to choose from! Maybe Isla Nublar from Jurassic World . I would love to go fishing there on that island.

What’s on your travel playlist?

Mostly country music. I love Chris Stapleton, George Strait, Garth Brooks and so many more.

The Tomorrow War

Amazon has released the first official trailer for sci-fi blockbuster “ The Tomorrow War ,” debuting on July 2 and starring Chris Pratt as Dan Forester, a high school teacher (and military vet) who is recruited by a group of time travelers to fight a war 30 years in the future.

“I was trying to save my daughter,” a war-hardened Pratt says in the trailer. “If I’ve gotta save the world to save her, then I’m gonna do it.”

In the movie, an alien species threatens life on Earth, and the only hope for survival is for soldiers and civilians from the present to travel to the year 2051 and help save the planet. Dan teams up with his estranged father, played by J.K. Simmons , and a brilliant scientist, portrayed by Yvonne Strahovski , to rewrite the fate of mankind.

In the trailer, soldiers from the future interrupt a televised soccer match to recruit present-day fighters.

“In 11 months’ time, all human beings in the future will be wiped from the face of the Earth, unless you help us,” a lieutenant, played by Jasmine Mathews, pleads.

Amazon reportedly spent $200 million for distribution rights for the movie, developed and produced by Skydance Media.

Written by Zach Dean and directed by Chris McKay, the film also features Edwin Hodge, Sam Richardson, Betty Gilpin, Mary Lynn Rajskub and Ryan Kiera Armstrong.

Pratt, Rob Cowan, Bradley J. Fischer and Brian Oliver executive produce, with Jules Daly, David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, David S. Goyer, Don Granger and Adam Kolbrenner producing alongside co-producer Samantha Nisenboim.

Leeds Bradford Airport Expands to 80 Destinations in 2023–2024

The terminals at Leeds Bradford Airport (LBA) are being renovated as the airport gets ready to handle flights to a record number of locations in 2023–2024.

For the first time, the West Yorkshire airport will offer 80 destinations on year-round and regular seasonal charter flights throughout the program.

Porto, Perpignan, and Bergen are among the new locations. Recent additions of Katowice in Poland, Bucharest and Cluj in Romania are being maintained.

Favorites like Tenerife, Faro, and Palma continue to be staples of the vacation schedule, and demand has led to the introduction of expanded capacity.

The airport has made “major investments” in its terminal, reworking Hall A facilities in great detail.

With the exception of Jet2, all airlines use the check-in hall, which is set up to maximize space and feature self-service kiosks.

As part of the development, Hall A will receive a new design with modern lighting and timber screening that is inspired by Scandinavia.

Multiple shops and food and drink outlets are being updated together with lounges.

To ensure “ample capacity” to satisfy demand during busy peak periods, a recruiting drive is now under progress.

John Cunliffe, director of commercial and strategy, said: “With the broadest range of destinations ever, we know that the coming years will be fantastic for LBA passengers.

“We’re incredibly proud of the work being done to make travelling through LBA the best experience possible, and we look forward to welcoming passengers old and new in 2023 and beyond.”

HR director Lindsay Beresford added: “As we head into a peak summer period with more destinations than we have ever seen before we are looking for strong local talent to join our team that supports our ambitions to be a leading airport, connecting Yorkshire to the world.”

The technology is full proof and has never failed before. On one such journey something strange happens that will change the future of the passengers. What happens? What causes it? Will they survive? — Apar Singh
  • During its lonely, 120-year journey to the extrasolar planet Homestead II, the state-of-the-art spaceship Avalon encounters an unusual malfunction. As a result, the calamitous anomaly wakes an unfortunate mechanic ninety years before reaching the final destination. Now, the future of 5,000 cryogenically frozen passengers is hanging by a thread. Before long, insufferable isolation, dreadful loneliness, and profound despair set in, giving voice to uncomfortable thoughts. And the question remains. Will the intergalactic traveller and the doomed companions ever set foot on the promised land? — Nick Riganas
  • The star-ship Avalon (From the Homestead company) is transporting over 5,000 colonists (and 238 crew members) to the planet Homestead II, a journey that takes 120 years. This is being done as part of a mass exodus of Earth's population due to Ecocide and the collapse of the biosphere. The colonists and the entire crew are in hibernation pods, but as the ship passes through a large asteroid field, the ship's energy shield (which is automatically directed in the direction of the asteroid barrage) is heavily strained against an oncoming stream of space debris, causing a malfunction (one of large pieces of debris penetrates the energy shield and collides with an unknown part of the ship) that awakens one passenger, mechanical engineer Jim Preston (Chris Pratt), 90 years early his scheduled awakening time. The passengers were supposed to awaken during final approach to the planet, just 4 months before reaching their destination. After a day, Jim realizes that he is the only one awake on the whole ship and that he woke up too soon. All of the ship's functions are governed by ID badges. And Jim's ID badge is of a low-level worker, giving him access to very few areas of the ship. Even his daily food is decided by his seniority. He cannot access the bridge as it requires special authorization. Any messages to Earth will take 19 years reach and earliest response is expected in 55 years. Jim is not able to go back to hibernation either. Jim finds the engineering manual for the hibernation pod and tries to fix it. He then tries to break into the bridge, but the entry door is heavily fortified. After a year of isolation (he spends time playing video games, dance off, basketball, spending time in a luxury suite of the ship), with no company except Arthur (Michael Sheen), an android bartender, Jim contemplates suicide by opening the space dock air-lock without having his space suit on, but cannot bring himself to do it. One day he notices beautiful Aurora Lane (Jennifer Lawrence) in her pod. Her video profile reveals she is a writer with a humorous personality. After struggling with the morality of manually reviving Aurora for companionship (which Jim discusses with Arthur), he awakens her, claiming her pod malfunctioned like his. Aurora realizes that Jim has been awake for over a year as he explains all the things he has done to rectify his situation. Aurora, devastated she may grow old and die before the ship reaches Homestead II, attempts a fruitless effort at re-entering hibernation, just as Jim had tried. Eventually, she accepts her situation and begins writing a book about her experiences. Jim and Aurora grow closer (Jim does everything with her that he used to do alone like video games, dance offs, basketball, dinner dates, movies etc), becoming lovers. Jim and Aurora enjoy their time together on the ship and even take space excursions together. Aurora is a gold class passenger and has access to many amenities (and far better menu options in the cafeteria), that Jim never had access to, like better coffee and the swimming pool. Aurora says that colony planets are big business and Homestead company made 8 quadrillion dollars from its first colony planet. Homestead gets 20% of everything a colonist makes in their lifetime on the new planet. Over the next year, the two fall in love. Just as Jim intends to propose to Aurora, he inadvertently allows Arthur to reveal the truth to Aurora. She is distraught, alternately berating, shunning, and physically attacking Jim. All this while, the malfunctions on the ship keep growing gradually. At first, they are barely noticeable, but one day Aurora gets trapped in the water in the swimming pool (due to loss of gravity) barely escaping death when gravity is restored just in time. Soon after, however, another pod failure awakens Gus (Laurence Fishburne), a Chief Deck Officer. Using Gus' personnel code, the group accesses the ship's bridge (which Jim unsuccessfully tried to breach). They discover multiple cascading failures throughout the ship's systems, but the computer does not reveal the cause. If left unattended, the ship will inevitably fail, causing the passengers and crew to perish. Gus realizes that Jim awakened Aurora when he checks all 3 pods to see why they malfunctioned; Aurora still blames Jim for stealing her life, claiming it is tantamount to murder. Gus does not condone Jim's actions but understands and tells Aurora that a "drowning man" (meaning the suicidal Jim) will grab onto any lifeline. When Gus falls critically ill, the ship's automated medical suite, the Autodoc, diagnoses Pansystemic Necrosis (Progressive Organ Failure) and gives him hours to live. Gus attributes it to his hibernation pod's multiple failures. Before dying, Gus gives Jim and Aurora his ID badge and employee code to access crew-only areas, so he and Aurora can try to repair the ship. Jim and Aurora find hull breaches from the asteroid collision two years earlier. They find a hole in the ship near the fusion reactor. The computer module administering the ship's fusion reactor power plant has been critically damaged due to the asteroid strike, causing the cascading malfunctions as the other systems' computing power was diverted in an attempt to maintain it. They replace the damaged module, but when the computer attempts to vent the reactor to extinguish a runaway plasma reaction, the exterior vent fails. Jim is forced to spacewalk and vent the plasma from outside, using the manual controls in the vent tube. Jim discovers that he must remain in the tube to keep the vent open while Aurora initiates venting from inside the ship. Revealing her enduring feelings for him, she admits she is terrified of losing him and being left alone. Jim improvises a heat shield and survives the venting but is blasted out into space as his tether snaps, and his damaged spacesuit begins losing oxygen. Aurora retrieves a clinically dead Jim from space and resuscitates him in the Autodoc. The Avalon, its reactor repaired, returns to normal operations. After burying Gus in space, Jim learns the Autodoc can function as a hibernation pod for one person, and Jim insists that Aurora use it for the remainder of the voyage. Realizing she would never see Jim again; she chooses to remain awake with him. He presents her with the makeshift engagement ring he made earlier, which she accepts. Eighty-eight years later, the ship's passengers and crew awaken on schedule, shortly before arrival at Homestead II. In the ship's grand concourse, they discover a huge tree with trailing vines, lush vegetation, flying birds, and a small cabin. A recording of Aurora's story describes the wonderful life she and Jim shared on the Avalon.

The Tomorrow War: Why Chris Pratt’s Character Doesn’t Get Time Travel

For those viewers who, like Chris Pratt’s Dan Forester, need a time travel primer for The Tomorrow War, here’s our breakdown of the rules.

The Tomorrow War Time Travel

This The Tomorrow War article contains major spoilers.

The key to a good time travel tale is that it must define its arbitrary rules and then stick to them. The Tomorrow War on Prime Video skillfully keeps it simple. However, there is a moment in the film where viewers might be tempted to shout at their screens when Dan Forester, the ex-military biology teacher played by Chris Pratt , appears to temporarily misunderstand how time travel works, even though elsewhere he’s got it figured out. Luckily, covering the basics should provide an explanation for Dan’s misguided actions.

Before watching The Tomorrow War , potential audience members may have asked themselves upon hearing the premise, “If you pull people from the past to fight your war, aren’t you depleting from the same stock that would fight it in the future?” Luckily, Dan and his fellow recruit Charlie figure this out early on: only those already dead before the war began can be drafted. Ignoring that they might have erased a few children born in the interim, it neatly eliminates the potential messiness of duplicate selves as well.

It also explains why Lieutenant Hart and her personnel from 2051 are so young: no one already born in our time can come back to train new soldiers. It’s admirably simple! Along those same lines, new recruit Norah should be applauded for asking why they can’t just be sent to a point earlier in the war to avoid impending human extinction. Describing the tethered rafts moving forward along a stream thirty years apart is an elegant illustration of time’s inexorable progression, and Dan seems to track with this as easily as most The Tomorrow War viewers do.

So why is Dan so intent on saving the future version of his daughter even after she explains what she wants to do with the toxin designed to kill the White Spike queens? Muri tells her father, “You need to make sure this never happens,” but he still says he’ll come back for her after he delivers the means to defeat the enemy before they even start to fight. Granted, it can’t be easy to see one’s offspring die in an alternate 2051, even if you know the 9-year-old Muri is waiting in 2021, but still, Dan understood the rules up until then and then hesitated needlessly.

Perhaps that’s the point the veteran Dorian was trying to make about Dan trying to save those already lost. But even so, Dan must surely want to erase the man who left Muri when she was 12 , divorced her mom when she was 14, and died when she was 16. The travelers from the future pretty much took care of that simply by showing up, since obviously no one in elder Muri’s world remembers hearing about strange visitors appearing in the middle of a soccer match, even if it happened before they were born.

The Tomorrow War Review

The Tomorrow War Review: Don’t Expect an Amazon Streaming Classic

In fact, the rescued planet may have other things to worry about now. The world was in chaos, thinking that humanity’s fate was sealed, and that damage doesn’t heal overnight. Like the children of the pandemic, the kids in Dan’s class lost not just a year of school where there didn’t seem to be much point in learning, they also lost family members to a war that will now no longer happen. Those deaths can’t be undone even though they technically happened in a pruned branch of the future.

But even if Dorian would have died from cancer had he not made his sacrifice, Dan will almost certainly avoid dying in a car crash that very well may have been self-inflicted. We never heard how Charlie died young, but perhaps his newfound courage will prevent him from falling off a cliff or whatever. The Tomorrow War gives us hope! Dan may have not saved Colonel Forester of Romeo Command, but who knows what Muri’s brilliant scientific mind will come up with instead?

At the end of The Tomorrow War , Lieutenant Hart tells Dan that she thought kindly of his 2051 daughter saying, “It was an honor to have known her.” But had Hart survived the encounter in northern Russia, she could have met Muri all over again, even if she never joins the military. Something tells me Muri will have her hands full keeping the polar ice caps from melting even further and posing a much more domestic danger.

Chris Pratt's Netflix Movie The Electric State: Cast, Story & Everything We Know

  • "The Electric State" is a Netflix movie directed by the Russo Brothers and based on a 2018 graphic novel.
  • The cast includes Millie Bobby Brown, Chris Pratt, and other talented actors.
  • Brown and Pratt had a great working relationship on set, and the film's anticipated release year is 2024.

Chris Pratt is set to star in a new Netflix movie, The Electric State , and information regarding the cast, story, and more has been trickling out. The Electric State is directed by MCU veterans the Russo Brothers , marking their tenth feature film together and second original movie for Netflix. The film is based on the 2018 science fiction dystopian graphic novel of the same name by Simon Stålenhag.

Rights for the film were acquired back in 2017, and there has been a long pre-production phase, with the Russos releasing Citadel , The Gray Man , and Cherry in the intervening years. News about The Electric State has been slow to arrive, probably a symptom of how long it's been gestating, but now that filming has wrapped, more and more news has been released regarding possible release dates, the cast, the story, along with some interesting conversations between the stars of the film.

15 MCU Actors Who Have Worked With The Russo Brothers Outside Of Marvel

The electric state's latest news.

The latest news for The Electric State concerns Millie Bobbie Brown and Chris Pratt's experience working on the set together. Far from being a contentious shoot, the two actors, who have often been unfairly scrutinized either for Chris Pratt's choice of films or a perception that Brown has been too opinionated in interviews, had an excellent time making the film (via Glamour ). Before this interview came out in October 2023, the only other news was that The Electric State wrapped filming in February 2023.

The Electric State Is Confirmed

The Electric State 's path from idea to confirmed film has been a winding one. The Russo Brothers first announced they had the rights to the graphic novel in 2017 (via Deadline ). Universal Pictures landed the rights to distribution with Anthony and Joe set to direct and Millie Bobby Brown on board to star , with production beginning after the Russos finished The Gray Man and Brown wrapped Stranger Things season 4.

However, the rights shuffle was not done just yet, and in 2022, it was announced that Netflix had acquired the distribution rights from Universal Pictures after the studio saw the high price tag for production, $200 million (via THR ). Then in February 2023, filming on The Electric State wrapped. There is no official release date, but the Russo Brothers told Variety that 2024 is the expected release year.

The Electric State's Cast

Millie Bobbie Brown was the first cast member announced for The Electric State . She is set to star as the protagonist of the film, Michelle, an orphaned teenager, alongside Chris Pratt as a mysterious smuggler. Michelle Yeoh, Stanley Tucci, Jason Alexander, Brian Cox, and Jenny Slate were announced as cast members in August 2022. Cox and Slate are rumored to be voicing characters. Woody Norman from C'mon C'mon was added to the cast in October 2022 (via Deadline ).

Yeoh was supposed to play a doctor character in the film but had to depart the movie due to scheduling conflicts ( via Variety ). Ke Huy Quan ( Everything Everywhere All at Once ) was selected to replace her. Anthony Mackie ( The Falcon and the Winter Soldier ) and Billy Bob Thornton ( The Gray Man , Fargo ) are set to voice Pratt's robotic sidekick and a key figure from the Civil War, respectively, in The Electric State . Giancarlo Esposito rounds out the cast as the antagonist, Marshall, a robotic drone that hunts Michelle.

This is Chris Pratt's third film with the Russo Brothers after playing Starlord in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame .

What Chris Pratt & Millie Bobby Brown Said About Working With Each Other

In October 2023, Glamour ran an interview with Brown that detailed her career as a young star in Stranger Things to growing up while facing a seemingly endless amount of criticism from both audiences and the media. Brown is mature in the way she talks about dealing with the press and people's opinions of her online. She also has real respect for her costar Pratt , saying,

"He’s such a great man, but also a great actor and a great costar. And you rarely get that in this business, to work with men that really support you and understand you and let you shine."

Brown has worked with a lot of actors over her young career and even admits that not all the older men she's worked with have given her the same respect Pratt clearly did.

For his part, Pratt had great things to say about his young co-star as well,

"In a way it’s hard to believe she’s so young. There’s a rawness to her performances. She’s present, capable, talented, and her process is like shooting from the hip—it takes real confidence. The people who can do it are especially electric."

Both Pratt and Brown have been criticized over their careers for rather insignificant parts of their work. Brown for her tendency to speak up when it's expected she stays quiet, and Pratt for his many appearances in what some critics consider bad blockbuster fare, including the Jurassic World franchise. Whatever the case is, there's no denying they are both talented actors and appear to have found like minds on the set of The Electric State .

The Electric State's Story

The story, based on the Simon Stålenhag novel, follows Michelle (Brown), a teenage girl who has been left all alone after her parents die and her younger brother disappears. Set in an alternate United States in the mid-1990s, The Electric State depicts the world after a civil war was fought between humans and robots. In this post-apocalyptic American West, robots still traverse, some friendly and others dangerous. Michelle sets off through the dangerous land to find her brother at the behest of a robot she meets.

On her journey, Michelle meets a mysterious smuggler (Pratt) and his sidekick robot (Mackie), as well as another strange robot whom she invites on her journey when she learns her brother is the one who sent it. Michelle and the smuggler meet many more robots on their quest and one in particular, Marshall (Esposito), seems to be personally driven to stop Michelle and kill her robot companion. Michelle is sure to meet many more characters along the way, including a doctor played by Quan.

Being the youngest actor announced, it's likely that Woody Norman will play Michelle's younger brother in The Electric State . Images from the comics can also help to paint a picture of what the movie will entail and, from the wide open vistas, decaying robots, and few characters, The Electric State looks to be more of a quiet character study than an action-packed thriller in the vein of the Russo Brothers's previous projects. No doubt there will be some thrills with Pratt signed on, but this could prove to be a more internal performance than he usually gives.

Chris Pratt Reveals He Prefers to Go by 'CP' or Just 'Pratt': 'No One Calls Me Chris'

"It feels weird. It's not my name. Don't call me Chris," he said he told a friend

Chris Pratt is a man of several names.

The 43-year-old Jurassic World Dominion actor said on SiriusXM's Pop Culture Spotlight with Jessica Shaw earlier this week that those closest to him call him "CP" or simply "Pratt."

"Yep. Pratt. CP. You know, CP. 'Hey, CP.' But no one calls me Chris," he said, per Entertainment Weekly . "I went golfing with my friend Chad, my pastor, the other day and he was like, 'No one calls you Chris? I'm gonna call you Chris. Alright, Chris. You're up.' And I was like, 'No, it feels weird. It's not my name. Don't call me Chris.' "

Speaking of names, the actor, who stars in the new series The Terminal List , joked earlier this month that he only recently mastered how to spell his wife Katherine Schwarzenegger 's family name.

While he appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live! , host Kimmel, 54, congratulated Pratt on welcoming his second daughter with wife Katherine last month, baby Eloise Christina Schwarzenegger Pratt. (They also share daughter Lyla Maria , 22 months, and Pratt is also dad to son Jack , 9½, with ex-wife Anna Faris .)

For more on Chris Pratt, listen below to our daily podcast PEOPLE Every Day.

"Can I ask you a question? Please be honest," Kimmel said. "Do you ever have trouble spelling Schwarzenegger?"

After a laugh, Pratt answered, "I've learned now. Yeah, I've learned now."

Never miss a story — sign up for PEOPLE 's free daily newsletter to stay up-to-date on the best of what PEOPLE has to offer, from juicy celebrity news to compelling human interest stories.

Kimmel recalled about Katherine's famous dad Arnold Schwarzenegger, "I have to tell you, when he was governor and I used to have to write it a lot when we were doing the monologue, and every time I have to really think about it."

"Yeah," said Pratt, "it's a long name. There are a lot of letters in these children's names. Schwarzenegger is the second middle name. We didn't hyphenate the names, it's a middle name, but I guess maybe that's semantics."

Kimmel then asked, "Did Arnold insist on that? Was he like, 'My name needs to be in there'?" Responded the Terminal List star, "No, no, that was Katherine. She's got his strength, and what mama says goes."

Speaking with Men's Health recently, Pratt praised his famous father-in-law's gift-giving skills.

"Gift-giving is absolutely one of his love languages. The most thoughtful gifts you could imagine, like quilts with all of the baby's pictures on it," he said of Arnold, 74. "He gave us these— I don't know what you'd call them, like statues carved out of wood. Nativity statues. They're from Oberammergau in [Germany]."

WA Ombudsman Chris Field's travel was not expected or commissioned, says international body he was president of

Chris field in a red flowery shirt smiling and looking at two women holding a doll.

The international organisation the WA ombudsman was leading says it never expected or commissioned expensive overseas travel which has come under the scrutiny of the state's corruption body.

The Corruption and Crime Commission (CCC) has been examining Chris Field's role as the president of the International Ombudsman Institute (IOI), and how WA taxpayer funds were used for overseas trips.

The CCC has heard how Mr Field spent hundreds of dollars on short chauffeur-driven car trips in Rome, and hundreds of thousands on overseas travel.

Mr Field revealed at the commission on Wednesday that he had recently "stood down" as president.

After an inquiry from the ABC, the general secretariat of the IOI confirmed he had stood down.

Chris Field in a blue shirt and pants next to Rebecca Poole, in a white shirt and blue pants outside a temple.

"In the interests of its members, the IOI feels compelled to clarify that Mr Field's travel activities in question were neither initiated, expected, commissioned nor financed by the IOI," the organisation said.

The ombudsman did not wish to comment when contacted by the ABC.

Chris Field's dual roles have been under scrutiny at a series of CCC hearings that have heard evidence of lavish spending.

This included flights and accommodation in countries including Ukraine, Russia, Slovenia, Morocco, Poland, Pakistan, USA and Hungary.

This week it was revealed Mr Field had spent hundreds of dollars on two chauffeur-driven limousine trips in Rome that totalled just over two kilometres.

A mid-shot of WA Ombudsman Chris Field walking into a building wearing spectacles, a dark grey suit, blue tie and white shirt.

The public examination into allegations Mr Field corruptly used his position to obtain a benefit began last month.

Earlier hearings revealed he had spent just 36 days in his Perth office over the course of a year.

The IOI describes itself on its website as a collective of ombudsman institutions across the world who work to "protect the people against violation of rights, abuse of powers, unfair decisions and maladministration".

Roles 'not in conflict'

Speaking at the commission on Wednesday, Mr Field revealed he did not think it was appropriate to be president while he was subject to an investigation and stood down out of respect for the CCC and the "rule of law".

However, he still said he saw the roles of WA ombudsman and IOI president as complementary.

"I saw them as utterly complementary and never saw them in conflict," he said.

Chris Field and Chen Chu holding a glass plaque together.

During this week's hearings, there were indications that Mr Field believed he had a future role with the IOI, referring to an OECD project he had sourced as president as being "on hold" until after the CCC inquiry.

And when Mr Field was asked on Tuesday whether he intended to travel in 2024 for IOI purposes and he responded that he did, it was in the context of questions about his presidency.

As recently as last month Mr Field travelled to Uzbekistan.

Mr Field said nobody in government or parliament had raised concern about the IOI role detracting from his duties as ombudsman until late last year, following some media coverage.

The CCC was shown evidence that ministers and high-ranking public servants knew of and supported Mr Field's IOI role.

Mark McGowan letter

Mr Field's lawyer and former attorney-general Christian Porter presented a letter of congratulations from then-premier Mark McGowan that was sent in March 2020, after he was elected as president.

He told the CCC he was always clear that the presidency would involve travel.

In a hearing on February 14, Mr Field told the CCC he had nominated himself for another term as IOI president in January this year.

He said he expected to be elected unopposed in a process that would be formalised "in the next one or two weeks".

But according to the statement from the IOI secretariat, new president Diane Wellborn, of Dayton-Montgomery County, would serve until a new president could be elected.

Premier 'pleased' by decision

Premier Roger Cook said he was "pleased" Mr Field had stepped down from his role with the IOI, and that he was "now able to focus more on his duties as the Western Australian Ombudsman."

But he echoed concerns from the CCC about the alleged expenditure of taxpayer money on travel the IOI says was not initiated by them.

"One of our concerns is that he has a budget in relation to executing his duties as the West Australian Ombudsman and was using that budget to facilitate his activities as the international president," Mr Cook told reporters on Thursday morning.

"I think he would say that that was part of enhancing his role as the WA Ombudsman. All these things are subject to inquiry about the CCC and I'll allow that inquiry to take its course."

A man with a serious expression.

When asked if he had been given advice about parliament's ability to remove Mr Field from his role, Mr Cook said he had been "advised in all manner of perspectives in relation to the inquiry and the Ombudsman".

"We want to see that role continue to be accentuated in the life of government in Western Australia. So now that he can focus on those things, that's a good thing," Mr Cook said.

Chris Field PSM, and Minister Werner Amon at the opening night of Il Cappelo di paglia di Firenze in the Graz Opera House.

"At the end of the day, the Ombudsman is an independent officer of the Parliament, and so ultimately, he is answerable to the Parliament.

The CCC is set to continue its hearings in April.
