When you're a Cana Wine Tours guest, you can look forward to an extraordinary itinerary consisting of wine tastings at two or three vineyards, a relaxing lunch, and comfortable transportation. Groups of eight or more enjoy free residential pickup in the surrounding Atlanta area.

Once your group is on board, your driver will leave the suburbs behind to follow the curves of the captivating and scenic mountains of North Georgia until you arrive in the rolling hills of Georgia's wine country. What is the cancellation policy?

Cancellations must be made the Monday before your tour. There is a 5% credit card service charge that will be deducted from any monies you have paid if a refund/cancellation is requested. To be eligible for cancellation, you must contact us by telephone.

What types of vehicles do you have?

We use comfortable and spacious shuttles suitable for group tours.

What is the largest group size you can accommodate?

Our tours can accommodate various group sizes; contact us for specific details.

Can non-drinkers join a wine tour?

Absolutely! Non-drinkers are welcome to join and can often enjoy alternative beverages at the wineries. We offer a discounted price for our non-drinking guests.

Can I bring my kids?

Our Private Tours allow children onboard and we will visit the Family Friendly Vineyards. Children cannot make the total number of guests to incur another vehicle, unless your Private Tour already has more than 1 vehicle. And, children must never be left on vehicles alone, or with the drivers.

Can I bring my pet?

Unfortunately, we are not able to accommodate pets at this time.

Do we tour if it's raining?

Tours usually proceed rain or shine, so come prepared for the weather.

Can I adjust tour times?

Schedule adjustments may be possible; contact us for any specific requests.

Do you accept solo travelers?

Yes, solo travelers are welcome to join our group tours!

This is a very informative article, like an all-you-need-to-know guide about tour choices. I have heard that Georgia is one of the oldest wine-producing regions in the world. My wife and I love to travel, but she especially loves the countryside views. I know Georgia is definitely full of natural views where the grapes are grown. Hello! Believe it or not, most of these areas of North Georgia (USA) are relatively newer producers of wine. Many of the wineries are less than ten years old, and almost all are less than 20 years old. There are plenty of wines with an “old world” taste, though, so it’s easy to understand how the area’s wine history might seem longer than it is!

There are lots of fantastic wineries in North GA, which makes it hard to choose a favorite getaway, but easy to find a bunch of great options! For viewpoints of long-range mountain views, consider visiting any of these destinations on a North Georgia Wine Tour: Terra Incognita, Kaya, Wolf Mountain, Living Water Winery, Ott Farms Winery, Creekstone Winery, Crane Creek Winery, and Fainting Goat.

My partner and I spent the day with A Grape View Tours and it was a truly magical experience. Our guide was just an all-around great person to spend time with and really knew the area inside and out. The van was clean and comfortable, the scenery was out of this world, and every destination was a treasure. One of our stops was Roo winery (named after a ROOster :D), which I understand had recently opened and was beautiful inside and out. We also stopped at a dairy farm for ice cream and a roadside farmers market. One of my favorite stops was a gentle hike to a waterfall - stunning!! This was not our first wine tour but I have to say it was one of the nicest. It just felt so personal, like we were visiting an old friend who was treating us to all the local flavors and colors. We are a husband and wife team, lovers of good wine, enjoy entertaining, and ran Wine Tasting Tours in California for 11 years. After moving to Georgia one item on our ‘East Coast To-Do List’ was to seek out local wineries. And lo and behold . . . we found several wineries in a beautiful countryside setting with stunning views, a good varietal of wines and of course, ‘Southern Charm’ in North Georgia. And all of this is only a little over an hour from the Metropolitan Atlanta area!

Our first experience was the annual ‘Georgia Wine Highway’ that provided a ‘peek’ into the many wineries in the area. So, for the next year we did our homework touring the wineries, meeting the wonderful owners (and enjoying wine tasting along the way), and decided to share this wonderful experience with others. From there ‘Pop the Cork Wine Tours’ was born! We are here to bring a ‘new vibe’ with our wine tasting tours!

So Many Wineries – Qvevri & Steel, Old & New.

There are so many options they are impossible to talk about at length here, but below we cover an outline example program for one or two nights away from Tbilisi just to show you what is possible:

Our Kakheti wine tours start by heading out of Tbilisi for around two hours or so until we reach the heart of Kakheti. Our first visit will be Shumi winery which is a well oiled, visitor-friendly setup and the perfect introduction to quality Qvevri wine. A tour of the factory will be made, followed by a tasting.

After our time at Shumi we will head further into the countryside for 30 minutes or so to visit the boutique Qvevri winery, Chubini . We will be having lunch here with the owners Tornike and Lika. This newly married couple is a delight to spend time with and they will proudly show you what they do, and we will try their wines during lunch relaxing in the garden.

You probably will not want to leave Chubini, but we have to as there is more to see and taste. We will drive 15 minutes more to the historic Chateau Eniseli winery which will also be our home for the night. This place is fascinating and exudes historical importance and Soviet influence. The story behind this winery is too long to recount here, suffice to say you will find it very interesting during a tour of this very unusual facility.

You will enjoy a tasting of Eniseli wines, brandy, and chacha and be free to relax for the evening in this very tranquil place.

Telavi & Signagi on our Georgia wine tours

For our two night Georgia wine tours we would have you stay in the Telavi area first night, then in Signagi for the second. Several wineries around Signagi will be added into the schedule according to your tastes, white, red, semi-sweet, Qvevri, oaked…the area has them all.

Before we get to Signagi for the night there is much to do, see and taste.

After breakfast, we will visit the spectacular Gremi Fortress and enjoy a quick look at the museum inside the structure. The video below should give you the idea, lovely place indeed.

After visiting Gremi we will head 15 minutes to the Shilda winery. This is a total contrast to what you have at Eniseli, this winery was built in 2015.

We will have a look at the production area where modern stainless steel is being used to produce great quality wine from Kakheti grapes. The company does also use Qvevri for some of its wines and we will taste both styles.

While we are here at Shilda we will learn about, and try, making traditional Georgian Shoti bread in the ubiquitous circular ovens, plus Georgian Khinkali dumplings and also Churchkhela sweets. This is a great hands-on experience and a lot of fun.

Leaving Shilda, we have a number of variations on Georgia wine tours en-route to Signagi if you are enjoying a two-night package. A one night package will mean we visit one more winery in Telavi before heading back to Tbilisi, this will one of many but a great option is Schuchmann Winery .

Schuchmann is also a great option for an overnight stay, this will all depend on the route you choose and your budget. In any case, we will visit the winery, enjoy a tasting and the superb views that the place affords.

If you have a three-day trip then we will head through some classic terroir such as Tsinandale and Mukuzani on our way to the winery which will also be our lunch spot today, Numisi Cellar and museum.

This is a very quirky place, and while the wine may be the standard of Shumi or Shilda, the experience is an interesting one. If the owner is around then we can meet him and hear, through the guide, a little about the place. We will enjoy a tour of the Qvevri cellar and the many museum pieces that are on show, then have a tasting during a lunch of traditional Georgian BBQ.

After this visit, you will be ready to head to your hotel, so we drive up the hill to the lovely town of Signagi, check you in and leave you free till after breakfast in the morning.

Keep going – Keep tasting!

The Pheasant´s Tears winery has a lovely tasting room in this quaint hill-top town, and we will have a tour and tasting here after giving you time to wander a little in the town after breakfast.

We will then leave Signagi and drive 45 minutes or so to reach the small village of Badiauri. Here we will visit one of the traditional bakeries producing bread the way you have seen so far.

After the bakeries, we will head to the tiny rural village of Kakabeti to visit the fantastic Vellino boutique winery. The Qvevri wines here are superb quality and delicious. We will enjoy being educated on the local terroir by the young owner and then have a premium tasting.

After Vellino there may be one more winery visit in the Khashmi area before heading back to Tbilisi, but this will depend on how we are going for time.

Being a private tour it gives us the chance to adapt to local opportunities and for your guide to suggest a place en route. We will go with the flow (of wine)!

Wine Tour in Georgia

Wine is the most diverse product in the world. Many types of wine can be tasted in different countries, but if we go deeper into the beginning of this noble liquid, we will definitely come to Georgia. It is scientifically proven that Georgia is the homeland of wine with eight thousand years of wine history and about five hundred local vine varieties. Viticulture is a fundamental basis for the unity and identity of the Georgian nation. The Georgian word “wine” is the basis of the name of this drink in different languages. In Georgia, the vine is a symbol of life and fertility, its sacral significance can be seen on the facades of ancient temples.

The ancient tradition of putting wine in a clay pot determines the uniqueness of Georgian wine. Wine fermentation in clay pots is the world’s oldest cultural achievement. That is why the Georgian traditional method of making wine was awarded the status of a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage Monument in 2013.

In different parts of the world, famous for wine, we will visit the ancient cellars decorated with various winery inventory and taste the unique, natural wines. A heartfelt attitude and history is felt in each cellar.

Great elements of this tour

Cradle of Wine Kakheti – really is the homeland of wine. Here we will visit local wineries and taste the most distinctive, natural wines, made from the rarest and highest quality Kakhetian grapes.

Qvevri Making Master Class Attending Qvevri making master class is another great experience. To get acquainted with the process of making a pitcher (“Qvevri”), we will visit a local family, where modern masters of many millennia of crafts will host us.

Wine of Western Georgia It is true that Kakheti region is called the Cradle of wine, but, the wine produced in western Georgia is no less popular, as it has already cleared the way to the American and European markets.

Day 1: Arrival

Arrive in Tbilisi and transfer to the hotel.

Day 2: Tbilisi

We start the journey to the homeland of wine with a tour of Tbilisi. The main tourist route of Tbilisi includes a walking tour of the historical part of the capital.

Whilst walking through the narrow streets of the city you will see various religious buildings: churches, synagogues, mosques, wooden houses built in the 19th century with colorful balconies, Sulphur Baths, the Narikala Fortress.

We will find the statue of Toastmaster on Sioni Street, which holds the main artefact of the Georgian feast, horn. The Toastmaster monument and many wine shops scattered in old Tbilisi will assure you that you are really traveling to the homeland of hospitality, vines, and wine.

From the old part of the city, we will move to the first specialised sparkling wine production enterprise in Georgia “Bagrationi 1882”. We will visit the factory, get acquainted with the production methods, and taste different types of sparkling wine.

Day 3: Tbilisi - Sighnaghi - Telavi

To get better acquainted with the Georgian wine culture, we will travel to Kakheti region, which is the “Cradle of Wine”.

First, we visit the fortified town – Sighnaghi, which leaves a special impression with its beautiful streets and distinctive natural location.

Later, we visit a small family cellar in the nearby village, famous for its viticulture, where we will taste natural wines made in a clay amphora (Qvevri) by the traditional method. Local winemakers cultivate the vineyard in a natural way.

The uniqueness of Georgian wine is determined by the fermentation in the clay amphora (Qvevri). To get acquainted with the process of making an amphora (“Qvevri”), we move to a nearby village, where modern masters of many millennia-old craft will host us.

We complete the first day of the trip to the homeland of wine in the middle of Kakheti, in the historical city of Telavi.

Day 4: Telavi - Kvareli - Tbilisi

After breakfast, we will visit Telavi Agricultural Market, where various types of local products: Georgian spices, traditional sweets – Churchkhela, local watermelon, walnut, or rose rare jams are sold.

Then, we will see the Alaverdi Cathedral, built in the 11th century, which is one of the largest religious buildings in Georgia.

In the cafe near the temple, we will taste different types of Georgian national lactic acid product – Matsoni (Yoghurt).

A visit to Kakheti can’t be without a local family lunch. The kindness of the hosts, the immediacy, the taste of homemade dishes and wine create special emotions around the feast.

We continue our journey by visiting the winery in the city of Kvareli, where we will learn the best traditions of wine and cheese mixture.

Later we will taste Kakhetian wines in the nearby village. The young winemaker of the cellar successfully continues to produce the highest quality of natural wine.

Wine of the day: “Kindzmarauli”

Day 5: Tbilisi - Mtskheta - Mukhrani - Kutaisi

Today we take the wine route, which leads to the west. On the way, we visit Mtskheta, the ancient capital and religious centre of Georgia.

In Mtskheta, we visit the UNESCO World Heritage Sites: Jvari Monastery built in the 6th century and the beautiful Svetitskhoveli Cathedral.

From Jvari Monastery there is an amazing panoramic view of the city at the confluence of the Mtkvari and Aragvi rivers.

Later we visit Svetitskhoveli Cathedral, which is the largest historical building in Georgia among the survivors and leaves a great impression on the visitor.

We move from Mtskheta to the village of Mukhrani, where a European-type chateau awaits us.

Here we will taste the premium wines made by synthesis of traditional Georgian wine technology and classic method.

We will also have lunch at the Chateau restaurant, which offers top-class service and a varied menu.

After visiting the fabulous chateau we will take the road to historical Kutaisi, where we visit Gelati Monastery.

The Centuries-old Gelati with beautiful paintings is deservedly included in the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

Wine of the day: „ Cabernet Sauvignon”

Day 6: Kutaisi - Prometheus Cave - Martvili - Kutaisi

The next day of travel to western Georgia begins with a visit to the Kutaisi Agricultural Market. Local fruits and vegetables, colourful spices, different types of cheese, or other products arranged neatly on the shelves in different sections are interesting for foreign visitors to see.

We continue towards Tskaltubo and visit the Prometheus Cave, which is a natural beauty monument.

In the afternoon we move from Imereti to Samegrelo. The vine and wine culture is more modest in western Georgia than in eastern Georgia.

Here, everything is different, there are open cellars adapted to the local climate and soil moisture.

We will visit the family cellar in Martvili, where we taste the distinctive wines and the special cuisine of the region.

Loaded with pleasant emotions, we return to ancient Kutaisi.

Wine of the day: „Ojaleshi”

Day 7: Kutaisi - Chiatura - Tbilisi

On the last day of the trip, we return to Tbilisi, on the way we will taste the unique wines of Imereti and Kartli.

Our route passes the industrial city, Chiatura. The journey is made mysterious by the rich nature with narrow valleys and large cliffs, Soviet-era architecture, ropes, mines, and historical monuments.

After tasting the wines of Kakheti and Samegrelo regions, we will visit a family winery in one of the Imeretian villages and taste the rare wines made in the traditional method.

The effects of antiquity are sharply felt here. In the same family, we share refined Imeretian cuisine.

Afterwards, we will visit a family cellar and taste organic-certified wines. The unique wines made in this modest cellar successfully increased the popularity of Georgian wine in the world.

We return to Tbilisi pleasantly drenched with wine.

We enjoy a farewell dinner with the traditional Georgian cuisine and the best combination of premium wines.
