This Is Not A Drill“-Tour geben.

Setlist: Welche Songs spielt Roger Waters in Hamburg?

Is This the Life We Really Want?“. Der Schwerpunkt liegt aber dennoch auf Material aus seiner Zeit mit Pink Floyd . Zu hören sind Songs wie „Us & Them“, „Comfortably Numb“ und „Wish You Were Here“.

In mehreren Ländern, in denen Roger Waters mit seiner „This Is Not A Drill“-Tour auftrat, gab es Proteste gegen den Sänger.

27th February 2023 – The city of Frankfurt on Friday announced that it was canceling the forthcoming concert of former Pink Floyd vocalist Roger Waters scheduled for May 28th 2023

A statement from the Central Council of German further urged venues in Hamburg, Berlin, Munich and Cologne hosting Waters’ “This is Not A Drill 2023” tour to reconsider however at the moment of writing no further German dates have been cancelled.

25th September 2022 – R oger Waters’ concerts in Poland have been canceled after he commented on the war in Ukraine. Krakow City Council has said it will discuss declaring the Pink Floyd musician “persona non grata.”

Concerts by Pink Floyd co-founder Roger Waters have been canceled by a venue in the Polish city of Krakow, organizers said on Sunday after the artist’s comments on the war in Ukraine sparked a storm of criticism.

“Live Nation Polska and Tauron Arena Krakow have canceled Roger Waters’ concert,” organizers said in a statement on the venue’s website. However, they did not elaborate on the reason for the cancellation.

On Saturday, state news agency PAP reported that a spokesman for Tauron Arena said Waters’ management had canceled the concert without giving a reason.

Waters was due to perform in Krakow in April 2023, but Polish media reports of an open letter he wrote earlier this month to Ukrainian first lady Olena Zelenska sparked backlash.

In the letter, Waters said the West should stop providing arms to Ukraine, accusing President Volodymyr Zelenskyy of allowing “extreme nationalism” in Ukraine and urging him to “put an end to this deadly war.”

Poland counts itself among Kyiv’s most loyal allies, and public support for the Ukrainian cause is very high.

The Krakow city council is scheduled to debate a motion on Wednesday that would declare Waters “persona non grata.” One of the councillors, Lukasz Wantuch, had urged city residents to boycott the Waters concerts.

“Roger Waters, an open supporter of Putin, wants to play in Krakow … It would be shameful for our city,” Wantuch said earlier on social media. “Let him sing in Moscow.”

In a social media post, Waters denied that he or his management had canceled the concerts and criticized Wantuch, accusing him of “draconian censoring of my work.”

“Lukasz Wantuch seems to know nothing of my history of working, all my life, at some personal cost, in the service of human rights,” Waters said.

Paraphrasing the words of his hit single “Another Brick in the Wall”, Waters also wrote: “Hey! Lukasz Wantuch! ‘Leave them Kids Alone!'”.

He said he had only wanted to urge the countries involved “to work towards a negotiated peace rather than escalate matters towards a bitter end.”

Wantuch said in a Facebook post on Sunday morning that he was in Ukraine and would respond to Waters’ statement in the evening.

Roger Waters announces 2023 European Tour

This Is Not a Drill Tour

Pink Floyd legend Roger Waters is bringing his This Is Not a Drill Tour to Europe in March, April and May 2023.

Currently in the middle of his extensive North American trek, which was delayed two years due to the pandemic, the politically charged rocker has announced 13 European dates so far in seven different countries.

Taking in multiple nights in Madrid, Milan and Bologna, Roger Waters’ This Is Not a Drill Tour also visits Lisbon, Barcelona, Krakow, Zurich and Prague. Tickets are on sale now.

When Roger Waters first announced the This Is Not a Drill Tour, the 79-year-old hinted that it could be his swansong trek.

"This Is Not A Drill is a groundbreaking new rock and roll, cinematic extravaganza, performed in the round,” Waters wrote.

“It is a stunning indictment of the corporate dystopia in which we all struggle to survive, and a call to action to love, protect, and share our precious and precarious planet home.

“The show includes a dozen great songs from Pink Floyd's Golden Era alongside several new ones — words and music, same writer, same heart, same soul, same man. Could be his last hurrah. Wow! My first farewell tour! Don’t miss it. Love, R."

Roger Waters last toured the UK in June and July 2018 when he played five UK arenas and BST Hyde Park as part of the Us + Them Tour.

In other Pink Floyd news, the band's long-delayed remixed ‘Animals’ album is finally released today (16th September).

‘Animals 2018 Remix’ is available to buy on CD, LP (with gatefold artwork), Blu-ray, SACD and Deluxe Gatefold formats.

The Deluxe Gatefold version includes LP, CD, audio Blu-ray, audio DVD and a 32-page book. The Blu-ray and DVD audio include the 2018 remix in Stereo, 5.1 Surround (both by James Guthrie) and the original 1977 Stereo mix.

The 32-page booklet features rarely seen behind the scenes photographs of the album sleeve shoot along with live images and memorabilia.

Alongside the enhanced music, Pink Floyd’s ‘Animals 2018 Remix’ comes with ‘bleak’ new artwork created by Storm Thorgerson’s Hipgnosis partner Aubrey ‘Po’ Powell. Thorgerson made the original iconic ‘Animals’ sleeve of Battersea Power Station in London.

“The show includes a dozen great songs from Pink Floyd’s Golden Era alongside several new ones — words and music, same writer, same heart, same soul, same man. Could be his last hurrah. Wow! My first farewell tour! Don’t miss it. Love, R.”

Roger Waters performing in Birmingham.

Roger Waters review – embattled singer vows ‘I will not be cancelled’

Utilita Arena, Birmingham Ex-Pink Floyd singer jettisons imagery that has led to accusations of antisemitism in Germany – and the result makes for a more powerful show

‘I f you’re one of those ‘I love Pink Floyd but I can’t stand Roger’s politics’ people, then you might do well to fuck off to the bar,” announces the singer via a recorded message before the show. There isn’t a mass stampede, although the “can’t stand Roger’s politics” people have certainly been vocal lately. He’s been called an antisemite and “Putin apologist” by Polly Samson , wife of ex-bandmate David Gilmour, who gave her tweet his approval. Waters has condemned the invasion of Ukraine but been denounced in the country for also saying it “was not unprovoked” , views which led to Polish concerts being cancelled. He won a legal battle to perform in Frankfurt after more accusations of antisemitism (which he denies). Last week it was reported that German police are investigating him over a “Nazi-style” costume worn on stage in Berlin.

Here, Waters tackles all this head-on. A screened statement points out that a satirical “depiction of an unhinged fascist demagogue” has been part of his shows since The Wall in 1980 and that his father was killed fighting the Nazis. Then he launches into a 10-minute tirade in which he decries his “brutal” treatment in Germany and says that the Daily Mail, the Times and the Daily Telegraph are trying to destroy him over his support for human rights in Palestine. “They’re trying to cancel me like they cancelled Jeremy Corbyn and Julian Assange,” he rages. “I will not be cancelled.” By the time he thanks the crowd for their support, the 79-year-old is tearful. “I’m fucking dying here,” he pleads.

Roger Waters on stage in Birmingham.

There’s no sign of the “Nazi-style” leather coat in this performance. Nor, unlike previous tours, is there a star of David on the Pink Floyd-style flying pig or any other antisemitic tropes. When Waters wades into the Palestine/Israel situation, it’s with a sensitivity he hasn’t always demonstrated. There are images of Palestinians living in shacks and the slogan “You can’t have humanitarian rights and an occupation.” Notably, among images of people murdered by authoritarian forces such as Blair Peach and 22-year old Iranian Mahsa Amini, there’s one of Anne Frank, above the words “Her crime? Being Jewish,” though to many, this might seem belated, even insultingly so.

As ever with Waters, much of the show veers between anti-war, anti-imperialist and humanitarian. A funereal version of Pink Floyd’s Comfortably Numb is illustrated by images of bombed out buildings, as if to suggest we’re numbed to warfare. Various US presidents are branded “war criminals”. Screen messages support everything from Black Lives Matter to trans rights. Some of the imagery – dollars for Money – feels a bit hokey, but the faces of children killed in war are haunting. Waters chillingly suggests “we’re closer to a nuclear confrontation than ever before”. However, apart from a screen slogan about “fucking oligarchs” and a fleeting image of Putin, references to Russia or Ukraine are conspicuously absent, which might be an attempt to defuse further controversy but seems an extraordinary omission from a supposed anti-war campaigner.

For all the sloganeering (“Fuck the patriarchy!”, “Free Assange!”, or “Control the narrative!” during Another Brick in the Wall) much of this show is personal. The new piano-led The Bar – composed in lockdown about the virtues of the pub – is lovely and there are touching reminiscences about Syd Barrett when they were kids. There’s lots to thrill the “I love Pink Floyd” people, with swathes of the classic Dark Side of the Moon and Wish You Were Here albums rendered by a stellar band. The latter’s title track, taken up by the entire crowd as a wider anthem of loss, is beautifully moving. The show is a triumph of staging, with remote-controlled flying sheep, cross-shaped screens the length of the arena and almost two and a half hours of music that ends with an ovation. Waters’ politics will continue to anger many, but anyone fleeing for the bar will miss a true spectacular.
