Allianz Arena, situated in Munich, Bavaria, Germany, is truly a remarkable piece of modern architecture and an important landmark for football enthusiasts worldwide. Opened in 2005, it has a seating capacity of 70,000 for international matches and 75,000 for domestic matches. The unique design and state-of-the-art facilities make it one of Europe’s most iconic football stadiums.

The stadium is home to FC Bayern Munich, one of the most successful clubs in the history of German football. After leaving their previous venues, Grünwald Stadium and Olympic Stadium, Bayern established the Allianz Arena as their third and undoubtedly most spectacular home ground. Fulfilling their fans’ dreams, the arena offers an unparalleled viewing experience, continuing to contribute to the club’s illustrious legacy.

Visiting the Allianz Arena is not only a thrilling experience for avid football fans, but it also attracts architecture and design lovers alike. Construction

The Allianz Arena, home of FC Bayern Munich, is a football stadium in Munich, Germany. Construction on the stadium began in 2002, with the design by renowned architecture firm Herzog & de Meuron. The stadium was completed in 2005 and has since been a popular venue for football matches and other events.

The arena was designed with the fans in mind, as expressed by Franz Beckenbauer: “Watching football should be fun and a great experience for everyone.” This led to the creation of a football-specific stadium with a unique design featuring a diamond-shaped exterior.

Since its opening in 2005, the Allianz Arena has hosted numerous significant events, including:

  • FC Bayern Munich’s home games in both domestic and international competitions, such as the Bundesliga and the UEFA Champions League.
  • TSV 1860 Munich’s participation in the UEFA Cup.
  • The 2006 FIFA World Cup matches that took place in Germany, with the Allianz Arena hosting several matches including group stage games and a semifinal.

In 2014, Allianz SE became shareholders of FC Bayern München AG, securing the naming rights for the Arena until 2041, representing a long-term partnership between the club and the insurance company.

Additionally, in November 2014, it was announced that the Allianz Arena was “completely paid off,” as stated by Karl-Heinz Rummenigge. Initially, the financial plan was set up for 25 years, however, the stadium’s debt was cleared in only nine.

The Allianz Arena, located in Munich, Germany, is the home stadium of Bayern Munich and an architectural marvel. Designed by renowned Swiss architects Herzog & de Meuron, the stadium opened its doors in May 2005, replacing Munich’s old Olympic Stadium as the new home for both Bayern Munich (1 Bundesliga) and TSV 1860 Munich (2 Bundesliga).

The design of the Allianz Arena focuses on creating a unique and futuristic interpretation of the basic football stadium concept. Boasting a seating capacity of 69,901, the stadium features a magnificent façade made up of a membrane shell. This 66,500sqm shell comprises 2,784 air cushions that emit an ethereal glow during matches and events, setting a new precedent in stadium design.

In addition to its striking exterior, the Allianz Arena has been meticulously designed to enhance the overall experience for both spectators and athletes. It boasts state-of-the-art facilities, such as large video screens and comfortable seating arrangements, which ensure a matchless view for spectators. Additionally, the stadium includes multiple restaurants, bars, and shops, providing an all-inclusive and enjoyable atmosphere for visitors.

Functionality is also central to the design of the Allianz Arena. The stadium was built with the flexibility to accommodate various sporting events and concerts, being able to transform from a football stadium to a unique event space. Moreover, the design intricately considers the needs of disabled visitors, offering enhanced accessibility and provisions for a comfortable experience.

Collaboratively, Herzog & de Meuron, along with contractors Alpine Bau Deutschland GmbH, Arup, and Sailer Stepan and Partners, Munich, have succeeded in creating a groundbreaking and iconic structure that stands as a testament to sports architecture and innovation in stadium design.

Moreover, Bayern Munich is carrying out reconstruction work in their dressing room. The renovations are expected to last from May 22 until likely August 11, 2023. This endeavor aims to provide the team with improved facilities, ensuring they have the best environment to prepare for matches.

Bayern Munich announce summer 2024 tour of South Korea

Bayern Munich are heading back to Asia, when they will visit South Korea as part of their Audi Summer Tour.

Bayern will take part in the “Coupang Play Series 2024”, with matches taking place at the World Cup Stadium. Their opponents and the dates of their fixtures will be announced at a later date.

It is the second time in as many years that the record champions have touched down on the Asian continent, following last summer's trip to Japan and Singapore . They also stopped off in China and Singapore in 2017, but this will be the club's first visit to South Korea.

As well as stepping up preparations for the 2024/25 season in friendly action, Bayern's players will be involved in various fan-centred activities. South Korea international Minjae Kim can expect a particularly warm reception, though the Bayern squad is brimming with international stars, including Alphonso Davies , Harry Kane , Jamal Musiala and Manuel Neuer .

In June 2022, Bayern opened an office in Bangkok, Thailand, designed to better reach fans in Southeast Asia, India and Oceania. It is the club's third base outside of Germany, with New York (USA) and Shanghai (China) offices in operation since 2014 and 2017 respectively.

GREEN BAY, WISCONSIN - JULY 23: A general view of play during the pre-season friendly match between ... [+] Bayern Munich and Manchester City at Lambeau Field on July 23, 2022 in Green Bay, Wisconsin. (Photo by Jamie Squire/Getty Images)

When FC Bayern Munich opened its United States office 10 years ago, the club had eight fan clubs in America. Today, the German soccer champion has more like 200. And it believes there is more growth to come.

“There are many people (in the U.S.) who are playing football. It’s a big sport. But it is not as well marketed as American football and basketball and hockey and baseball,” Stefan Mennerich, media director of FC Bayern and CEO of FC Bayern Digital and Media Lab, tells me in an exclusive interview.

“If you see the huge amount of people who are playing football and who like football, there’s a very good market for the future.

“We’re in close connection with Real Madrid and Barcelona and Manchester United and Manchester City, and all of these clubs have the same opinion, more or less.”

OneFootball, a soccer platform with shareholders including FC Bayern, Real Madrid and Manchester City, today (Wednesday, March 27) announced a partnership with Yahoo Sports to establish a hub for soccer coverage.

Available in the U.S. and Canada on the Yahoo Sports website and app, the co-branded Yahoo Sports-OneFootball hub will feature coverage from OneFootball’s library of original and partner content. It will also feature Yahoo Sports reporting, as well as video content the companies collaborate on.

In one massive attack ukrainian missiles hit four russian ships including three landing vessels, a mel gibson thriller never released in us theaters is trending on netflix.

Soccer fans will have access to news and analysis from leagues and competitions around the world. OneFootball has a newsroom that operates in six languages and a network of more than 200 content partners and publishers.

The partnership arrives as the U.S. prepares to host the Copa América in June and July and, in the summer of 2025, the first edition of an expanded, 32-team Club World Cup . In 2026, the U.S. will co-host the World Cup with Canada and Mexico.

Patrick Fischer, CEO at OneFootball, tells me the MENA (Middle East and North Africa) region, and in particular Saudi Arabia, and the U.S. have emerged as “relevant” soccer markets.

As well as the upcoming tournaments in America, he cites Apple entering soccer with its MLS broadcast deal and Lionel Messi joining Inter Miami.

“The potential in the U.S. market specifically is enormous with Copa América and with the FIFA Club World Cup, which is from my understanding completely underestimated how huge that will be — a four-week tournament with 32 clubs coming to the U.S. next summer,” Fischer says.

“Plus, of course, the FIFA World Cup in 2026. So we have a fully packed agenda and calendar for the next 24 months. With Yahoo's unprecedented reach, and with our content library, I think that's a natural fit to bring soccer to the U.S. audience much faster and better than anyone else.”

Yahoo Sports and OneFootball also say the content hub will offer new advertising and sponsorship opportunities for brands.

“We think we're opening up a really big new category that has an opportunity to distinguish itself to the U.S. market. And therefore, that will attract a lot of users if we do a good job,” says Ryan Spoon, president of Yahoo Sports.

“We have the data that suggests with each passing day, growth (in soccer interest) is happening in the U.S. There are multiple times in a given month where MLS coverage, Messi in particular, and NWSL news, has led Yahoo.com, the third most trafficked page in the U.S.

“That will be heightened by these major global events and hopefully also heightened by some of the work we do together. But that ascension is happening.”

European clubs have been trying for a while to crack America. But soccer still has a way to go to compete with the most popular U.S. sports.

A Gallup poll earlier this year found 41% of Americans named (American) football as their favourite sport to watch , followed by baseball (10%) and basketball (9%). Soccer was next with 5%. But this jumped to 8% among 18-29-year-olds.

For the biggest European soccer clubs though, America remains an appealing market. And now seems like the right moment to build their brands and reach new supporters stateside.

Last year, FC Bayern moved into a new U.S. office in the Rockefeller Center in New York City. Mennerich believes the coming years will help the club grow its U.S. presence further.

“We will shape our summer tour around the 2025 Club World Cup and we will have a big presence there,” he says.

“I hope for four weeks until the final of the Club World Cup. And before and after what we have as activations in the U.S. market is huge for us.”

Manuel Neuer suffers injury scare ahead of Bayern Munich’s Champions League clash with Arsenal

neuer-bayern

Bayern Munich captain Manuel Neuer has withdrawn from the Germany international squad after sustaining a left adductor injury in training.

The 37-year-old goalkeeper will miss his side’s games against France on March 23 and the Netherlands on March 26.

Bayern face Arsenal at Emirates Stadium in the quarter-final of the Champions League on April 9. Before that, they host Borussia Dortmund and then travel to Heidenheim in their bid to chase down Bundesliga leaders Bayer Leverkusen.

Germany confirmed the injury in a statement which read: “Manuel Neuer left early due to a torn muscle fibre in his left adductor and is out of the two upcoming international matches.

“He sustained the injury in training that morning. Get well soon, Manu.”

Neuer’s injury leaves Barcelona ’s Marc-Andre ter Stegen , Fulham ’s Bernd Leno and Hoffenheim’s Oliver Baumann as goalkeeping options in Julian Nagelsmann’s Germany squad.

Neuer previously sustained a leg fracture during a skiing tour in December 2022 , returning to action in October 2023.  In an interview with The Athletic , the veteran said that he told his Bayern team-mates about his skiing injury in their WhatsApp group and apologised for the incident.

Sven Ulreich, the 35-year-old former Stuttgart goalkeeper, stood in for Neuer while he was injured but has returned to a No 2 role since last autumn. Israel international Daniel Peretz is Bayern’s other senior goalkeeper but the 23-year-old has only played once for Bayern since joining from Maccabi Tel Aviv last summer and has spent most of 2024 out with a knee injury.

Bayern defender Sascha Boey, meanwhile, will also miss the next “few weeks” due to an injury to his left hamstring.

The 23-year-old, w ho joined the German club from Galatasaray in January , sustained the injury in training with the diagnosis being confirmed by Bayern’s medical unit earlier on Wednesday.

Boey has been limited to making just two appearances for Bayern having previously sustained a muscle injury in February.

SV Darmstadt 98 v FC Bayern München - Bundesliga

It’s only March, but Tottenham Hotspur ’s 2024-25 preseason plans are already taking shape. Spurs had already announced a postseason trip to Melbourne, Ange Postecoglou’s home town, and there are strong indications that the club will make a return trip to Asia (and specifically Seoul) after last summer’s successful tour to the region.

Now, Tottenham will play another friendly — and it might get a little awkward. Spurs formally announced that they will host Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on August 10, as part of the totally real and not at all made up for sponsorship purposes VisitMalta Cup.

We will face six-time European champions @FCBayern in the @VisitMalta Cup at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday 10th August, 17:30 kick-off. Find out more ⤵️ — Tottenham Hotspur (@SpursOfficial) March 27, 2024

This will, of course, be Harry Kane’s first return to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium since he was sold to Bayern Munich this past summer. And unless Bayern significantly turn things around in the league and/or win the Champions League , Kane will return to the Lane with exactly as many trophies won as he had when he left.

The venue is a little interesting — when we first heard rumors about a Bayern friendly last month, it was in the context of both teams planning preseason tours to Asia, meaning it was likely that match was going to take place in Seoul. I didn’t anticipate it’d be a home friendly, but I probably should have — now that I see it online, I’m almost certain that a home friendly between Spurs and Bayern, with all proceeds going to Tottenham, was part of the transfer negotiations between the clubs for Kane’s sale.

This will also likely be the last preseason warm up for Tottenham, with the new Premier League season kicking off the following Saturday, August 17.

I’m sure Kane get a warm welcome from the Tottenham crowd, or at least he should. After all, he is still Tottenham’s all-time leading goal scorer and arguably the best player in club history, even though he did leave us to spend time with his German “special friend” and their new family a few blocks north. Not that we’re still bitter about that.

Oh, and Eric Dier’s there too. That won’t be awkward either.

Man City 2024 USA tour fixtures confirmed with four glamour opponents including Barcelona

P ep Guardiola will be reunited with Barcelona in the summer, with four pre-season fixtures announced as part of Manchester City's 2024/25 summer tour.

City will potentially play in front of around 250,000 fans across four fixtures in July and August, taking place in North Carolina, New York, Orlando and Ohio. Last month, MEN Sport revealed City's plans to tour America for the second time in three years, with the club now confirming four fixtures across 12 days.

In 2025, City will be back in the USA for the newly-revamped Club World Cup, qualifying for that tournament having won the Champions League last season. The club enjoyed a lucrative tour to Houston and Green Bay in 2022 as Erling Haaland made his first appearance for the club, before earning around £15m from their tour of Japan and South Korea last summer.

Who will City play?

Kicking off this summer's tour in Chapel Hill, North Carolina on July 23, City will take on Scottish giants Celtic at the 50,000-capacity Kenan Stadium. After that, the Blues travel to New York, where they will face AC Milan at the iconic Yankee Stadium on July 27.

Sister club New York City FC have played fixtures there since 2015, as they wait for a bespoke stadium to be built, and the MLS side will play a game the following day at the same venue. City played at the Yankee Stadium 10 years ago against Liverpool .

Three days later on July 30, the Blues fly down to Orlando, Florida, to take on Guardiola's old side Barcelona. While they could still meet in the Champions League final, the summer contest could be the first meeting between the sides since a mid-season friendly in August 2022 at the Nou Camp. The fixture will see Guardiola reunited with his old side, and City players facing former captain Ilkay Gundogan.

Joao Cancelo is currently on loan at Barcelona and has expressed a desire to remain there next season. Last summer, he played for City against Bayern Munich in Tokyo having spent the second half of the 2022/23 season on loan at Bayern. He is under contract at the Etihad until 2027.

Finally, City will travel to Columbus, Ohio to take on Chelsea at the 100,000-capacity Ohio Stadium. That clash with this season's FA Cup semi-final opponents will be played on August 3, before the Blues return to the UK. They will hope to play in the Community Shield, which is likely to take place a week later on August 10, before the Premier League season begins on the weekend of August 17.

Why are City going back to the USA?

Peter Laundy, Senior Vice President Partnerships at City Football Group, said: “We are pleased to announce the details of our 2024/25 preseason tour today as we prepare to return to America with an exciting four-match series delivered in collaboration with FC Series this summer.

“Our 2022 pre-season visit to the United States was hugely successful, including our sell-out fixture at Lambeau Field, Green Bay and the Club’s presence, fan base and status continues to grow significantly within the region. We can’t wait to play more matches, deliver more unique experiences and opportunities for our fans across the country to enjoy with Manchester City when we return later this year.”

What about the Club World Cup next year?

City qualified for the new-look 2025 Club World Cup in the USA by winning the 2023 Champions League. The new-look tournament will be a 32-team edition mirroring the FIFA World Cup.

They will be in the states for that tournament, which takes place between June 15 and July 13. No venues or schedules have been announced yet, although City know they could face Real Madrid, Chelsea, Bayern Munich, PSG, Inter Milan, Juventus or Borussia Dortmund among others. Urawa Red Diamonds and Fluminense, who City beat to win the 2023 Club World Cup, are also among the 22 sides already qualified.

How to watch the US tour games and how to get tickets?

City will show all the games on City+, subject to certain restrictions, as well as live coverage of press conferences and training sessions. They will also produce their regular Matchday Live shows on the tours. Tickets for the games will be announced in due course.

Manchester City will return to the Yankee Stadium in the summer, and will also face Barcelona in a four-game pre-season tour.

1) Borussia Dortmund-Atletico Madrid (16 avril) : 147,43 €

2) Atlético de Madrid-Borussia Dortmund (10 avril) : 177,86 €

3) FC Barcelone-PSG (16 avril) : 258,59 €

3) PSG-FC Barcelone (10 avril) : 258,59 €

5) Real Madrid-Manchester City (9 avril) : 279,66 €

6) Manchester City-Real Madrid (17 avril) : 284,34 €

7) Bayern Munich-Arsenal (17 avril) : 349,86 €

8) Arsenal-Bayern Munich (9 avril) 438,79 €

Prix moyens des billets pour les quarts de finale de la Ligue des champions

Données récoltées par la plateforme Seatpick au 26 mars 2024.

1) Real Madrid-Manchester City : 1 089,37 €

2) Bayern Munich-Arsenal : 951,89 €

3) PSG-FC Barcelone : 843,53 €

4) Arsenal-Bayern Munich : 800,42 €

5) Borussia Dortmund-Atlético de Madrid : 638,47 €

6) Manchester City-Real Madrid : 589,54 €

7) FC Barcelone-PSG : 488,18 €
