Planning a summer trip?  Vail offers waterfall hikes, bicycling through the friendly streets of Vail, and is home to the annual, week long Go Pro Mountain Games festival in June. ! With a well-earned reputation as a resort for the rich and famous, Vail is a place everyone else will love and can afford—with a little help from us. The resort area has everything you can imagine for skiers and snowboarders. The village offers opera, a symphony, a dance theater, and a slew of gourmet restaurants, featuring cuisines from all around the world. Think music concerts, ice-skating rinks, climbing walls.

Most Well-Known Ski Resort for a Reason

After 50 years of operation, this resort has perfected winter vacations. The largest mountain resort in North America, the area incorporates more than one ski resort with four additional resorts just down the road. Vail Mountain is so large it is separated at the base with three areas: Lionshead, Vail Village, and Golden Peak. Whether you’re an expert skier or just learning, you’ll find suitable quality instruction from these world-class ski instructors. SCOUT REVIEW

When Vail Mountain opened in December 1962 with just one gondola, two chairlifts, eight ski instructors and a $5 lift ticket, the US Forest Service stipulated that there must be at least one lodge with a minimum of 30 sleeping rooms. That place was The Lodge at Vail – and thus began the development of one of the world’s most popular ski villages.

Sadly lift tickets are no longer $5, but The Lodge at Vail has endured as one of the area’s most popular places to stay. Despite being completely modern in terms of its amenities and service, especially after a few makeovers, The Lodge at Vail has thankfully retained a sense of rustic charm that has all but disappeared from many of the larger hotels now dominating the village. It escapes much of the superfluous glitz and glamour associated with some of these other hotels too, giving The Lodge a more laid-back feel.

The hotel rooms at the Lodge at Vail are cosy, not alot of extra room to spread out, but you are in Vail so you're most likely be spending the majority of your time on the slopes or at apres (or shopping!). The majority of the rooms have either King beds or two Queen beds, and an extra Sofa Sleeper can be arranged. All the condos are 2 bedroom, making it a perfect option for families, and they can be joined to hotel rooms, creating even more space for the larger family units.

The service, however, is far from laid-back – guests are made to feel very pampered. It’s not surprising therefore that The Lodge has many repeat customers, some of whom stay for months at a time.

Meanwhile, the facilities are 5 star, and with a great pool area, including two hot tubs and a small bar area this hotel is the perfect place to relax. Come winter, this area is likely to be a popular place for après – giving you the chance to enjoy a drink or two while soaking your muscles in the hot tub.

Despite the fact that this hotel is one of the closest to the slopes, it still offers a slope-side valet service, enabling you to pop out of your skis at the end of the day so you don’t have to carry them a step further. The hotel does offer a complimentary on-demand shuttle service throughout Vail, so getting around couldn't get any easier. The Lodge at Vail also features an Elway’s Restaurant – started by the famous Denver Broncos quarterback John Elway – who must have had a taste for big steaks and fine wines. Not that we’re complaining!

Who should stay here

The Lodge at Vail is great for those seeking charm with a side of glitz and glamour, and who command a ski-in ski-out hotel in Vail.

The Lodge at Vail is in a fantastic central location, right in the heart of Vail Village and on the edge of the ski slopes. It’s only a few steps to Gondola One, so access to the slopes each morning is easy. The Lodge at Vail is close to local restaurants, shops and bars.

  • Ski-in Ski-out or slopeside

If Aspen is Hollywood then Vail is Wall St - popular with the money-never-sleeps-but-it-does-wear-Bogner set. Attracting tens of thousands of visitors a year, it’s quite the place to be seen, and to ski! Luxury is standard at Vail, the pedestrian-friendly village weaves around the buildings and has a wonderful European-style feel to it. The mountain terrain (one of the largest in the world) boasts perfectly groomed corduroy, powder stashes galore, and pristine tree skiing. Team this up with endless accommodation options, easy access from Denver, and one of the best après scenes in North America, it's no surprise Vail is a favourite among local and international ski enthusiasts.

Scout Booking Terms & Conditions

  • Rate includes:  All associated taxes. Some hotels charge extra fees for parking, cots, rollaways etc. Such fees can be confirmed on request based on your requirements.
  • Deposit:  25% of the full amount is due WITHIN 7 DAYS OF CONFIRMATION to secure the booking.
  • Final Balance:  Invoice will be issued for the remaining balance 80 days prior to departure. PAYMENT IS DUE 70 DAYS PRIOR to departure. Failure to pay by 70 days may result in the auto-cancellation of accommodation by the accommodation provider or late payment fees.
  • Bookings within 70 days: Full payment is required within 7 days to secure the booking.
  • Variations: In some circumstances suppliers may have different payment policies to the above. Additionally some Early Bird deals require full payment by or soon after the book-by date. In these instances Scout will clearly communicate any variances prior to confirmation.
  • All deposits are non-refundable once received.
  • For balance payments made within 70-45 days prior to the trip the deposit amount is non-refundable.
  • No refund for total amount for cancellations 45 days or less prior to arrival and no-shows. In unexpected, unfortunate circumstances (family death etc) Scout will work to negotiate with the supplier for a full or partial refund, however this is not guaranteed. We recommend taking travel insurance to make sure you are covered. Cancelling due to weather, missed travel connections or lack of snow is not considered an unexpected circumstance and is one of the risks you must wear as part of taking a ski trip. Unless the supplier has a snow guarantee or weather cancellation policy, Scout will not refund any part of the package due to these factors.
  • Variations : Please note that some hotels may have stricter policies (such as no refund within 60 days) and we are required to pass on these policies. We will communicate any varations to the above cancellation policy prior to confirmation of booking.
  • Once bookings are confirmed and deposit is paid service fees will apply for every amendment to existing elements, late final payment and travel document re-issue in addition to fees charged by suppliers
  • In a few instances we purchase products through third party providers. If you change part of your package whilst at a destination, the 3rd party provider may have a different refund policy to that of the supplier in the destination. Wherever possible we will work to recover any refunds that come from a change at the destination, however it is not guaranteed.
  • Surcharges:  Scout does not charge any additional fees for the booking. Prices quoted are for cash (bank transfer) payments only. Credit card payments (Amex, Visa or Mastercard only) will be subject to 1.8% surcharge.
  • Booking Currency:  Scout will quote and charge in one currency of your choice from AUD, USD, CAD, JPY, EUR or GBP only.
  • Currency Exchange Policy: If you book an international destination all remaining balances are subject to change (based on currency fluctuations) until the final payment has been processed. This can go either way (if your currency gets stronger you will be invoiced less!). We will confirm at the time of invoice what the final amount is, based on the exchange rate at that time. Should you wish to pay the balance earlier (prior to when it’s actually due) to secure that current exchange rate you are welcome to request the final invoice at any time. Once payments have been made (deposit or final balance), no refunds will be given for changes in the amount of what that payment would be, based on currency changes at any time prior to your trip.
  • Travel Insurance: Once your booking is confirmed, we strongly recommend taking out travel insurance as it will often cover the cost of cancelled reservations.

Vail Resorts' 2024/2025 Epic Pass Is Now on Sale — and It’s at Its Lowest Price

The Epic Pass, which offers unlimited and unrestricted access to more than 40 different mountain resorts and limited access to dozens more, will start at $982.

The weather may be warming up and powder hounds are eking out the last few weeks of ski season, but Vail Resorts wants skiers and riders to start thinking about next season by putting its Epic Pass on sale for 2024 and 2025.

The Epic Pass , which offers unlimited and unrestricted access to more than 40 different mountain resorts and limited access to dozens more, will start at $982, Vail Resorts shared with Travel + Leisure . The pass will include 10 Buddy tickets along with six Ski with a Friend tickets.

Vail noted the launch price for the pass is the lowest of the year and will only go up from here.

“Our Pass options are designed to provide an incredible value to the best mountain resorts, whether you plan to ski and ride one day or every day,” Vail Resorts CEO Kirsten Lynch said in a statement shared with T+L. “Guests can expect to have a better experience at our mountain resorts year after year thanks to our continued investments and innovations, including lift upgrades as well as our new My Epic app that provides interactive trail maps, lift line wait times and new Mobile Pass technology, each designed to enhance your day on [the] mountain.”

In addition to the unlimited Epic Pass, Vail will put its other passes on sale, including the Epic Local Pass, which offers unrestricted access to 29 resorts for $731; and the Northeast Value Pass, which includes access to 21 resorts across the Northeast, mid-Atlantic, and Midwest for $600.

New for next season, the Epic Pass will also include access to another international resort: Switzerland’s Crans-Montana Mountain Resort .

This past year, the Epic Pass got a digital upgrade , allowing holders to store their passes on their phones and scan it on the mountain hands-free using Bluetooth. Next season, the option will also be available for Canada’s Whistler Blackcomb .

As an added bonus, Epic Pass holders receive access to Epic Mountain Rewards, which offers a 20 percent discount on food, lodging, lessons, rentals, and more.

Ski pass prices are increasing. Here's how they compare for the 2024-25 winter season

Prepare to pay more to ski and ride at Colorado resorts next season.

State of play: The price tags for the Epic, Ikon and Indy passes are all going uphill for the 2024-25 winter season.

  • Vail Resorts' Epic Pass will cost $982 with the limited-access Epic Local at $731.
  • The Ikon Pass offered by Alterra Mountain Co. is steeper at $1,249 with the restrictive base pass at $869.
  • The Indy+ pass to more than 200 independent ski areas will be $469 for adults with base pass at $349. It's expected to sell-out quickly.
  • The exclusive Mountain Collective Pass is staying put at $605.

By the numbers: The Epic passes are respectively increasing $73 and $55, or 8%. The Ikon passes jumped the same percentage, by $90 and $40, respectively.

  • The Indy passes are respectively up $50 and $30, or 12% and 10%.

Between the lines: For the 2022-23 season, Vail Resorts made a splash by lowering the cost of its Epic pass. But the new price hikes put it back above the 2020-21 rates.

The big picture: The best pass to buy depends on where you want to ski , so check with friends and do your homework.

  • The best perk of the Epic Pass is unrestricted skiing at Vail, Beaver Creek, Whistler Blackcomb and Park City, Utah, as well as seven days at Telluride.
  • Ikon Pass boasts Steamboat and Copper with seven days each at Aspen Snowmass and Arapahoe Basin, which it recently acquired .

Pro-tip: Buy early to get discounts and perks, such as coupons for skiing with a friend.

Annually ranked as one of the top resorts for families, there’s nothing on earth like Vail for a family ski vacation. Every family’s budget, skiing level, dining tastes and off-mountain interests, will find Vail to their liking.

Vail Family Skiing

The Vail family skiing is top notch, thanks to a plethora of designated “discovery” zones on the resorts vast expanse. Kids can learn about Vail’s wildlife, while having a ball in areas like Porcupine Alley and other meandering tree trails near the Avanti Quad. Chaos Canyon, under Mid-Vail, is a guaranteed kid-pleaser, with fun whoop-di-dos, tree trails and more that will have them squealing with delight. The whole family can ski together on the Back Bowls groomed cruisers. Every on-mountain restaurant has menu items that even the pickiest eaters will enjoy, so parents don’t have to worry that their kids are getting the fuel they need to enjoy the slopes.

Vail Family Lodging

Renowned for its friendly atmosphere and responsive concierge staff, the Antlers at Vail takes the guesswork out of a family ski vacation. The property is located just 150 yards away from the gondola and ski school. It offers 84 condominiums and amenities such as a pool, hot-tubs, fitness center, ski lockers, fully equipped business center and free heated parking. The condominiums are fully furnished with all the comforts of home including free wireless internet access, full size kitchens, a private balcony, fireplace and daily maid service. Vail Cascade , a lift-side lodging option on the Western side of the resort, provides all the conveniences of home, as well as the amenities of a resort. Amenities include full access to Vail Cascade Resort and Spa amenities, Vail’s largest and most complete luxury spa and athletic club, indoor parking, library and gathering room and pool and hot tub.

Vail Family Dining

Vail’s expansive options for families include dining options, too. For a memorable night out with the whole family head to Bol, Vail’s new bowling alley, located in Solaris. But this isn’t your typical bowling alley; this is “boutique bowling” and includes a cool atmosphere, flat screen TVs, gourmet eats, cocktails and a wine list that parents will love, plus healthy, delicious kid-friendly fare that will put a smile on everyone’s face. The quality of food and experience will make your family want to come back every night during your Vail family ski vacation.

For another great Vail family dining experience, make a reservation at the Swiss Chalet in Vail Village. Everyone can share pots of cheese fondue, and kids will love cooking their own meats, veggies and cheese on a classic raclette. Parents will love the monstrous-sized mugs of European beer or the Swiss Chalet’s acclaimed wine list.

Vail Resorts’ Epic Pass hits highest launch price point yet

Passes for next season went on sale tuesday.

News News | Mar 5, 2024

vail ski trip packages

Vail Resorts started selling 2024-25 season passes on Tuesday, with the full Epic Pass, which offers unlimited access to Vail and Beaver Creek, going for $982.

The $73 jump is an 8% increase over last year’s pass launch price for the current season and is the most expensive price launch point the Epic Pass has yet to reach since launching during the 2008-09 season.

That 2008-09 pass was $579 and gave skiers unlimited access to Vail, Beaver Creek, Keystone, Breckenridge and Heavenly. Today’s Epic Pass offers access to more than 80 resorts across the globe.

The Epic Local Pass — offering 10 days at Vail and/or Beaver Creek — went on sale Tuesday for next season for $731.

Since 2008-09, the Epic Pass saw steady increases through the 2020-21 season, when it reached a launch price of $979. Later that selling cycle, from Nov. 22 to Dec. 6, 2020, the Epic Pass reached $1,099. Following that season, Vail Resorts carried out what it called a price reset, knocking the cost of a season pass back down to 2015-16 prices.

vail ski trip packages

Support Local Journalism

Last year’s jump from $841 to $909 was also an 8% jump, something that contributed to an 11% increase in sales dollars, said Vail Resorts CEO Kirsten Lynch.

“Pass sales dollars benefited from the 8% price increase relative to the 2022-23 season and new pass holders coming into the program in higher priced products relative to the sales results in the prior year period, partially offset by the mix impact from the growth of regional and Epic Day Pass products,” Lynch said in December.

Vail Resorts launched a new Epic Day pass option in 2022-23 which allowed skiers to choose from different levels of resort access. For skiers who only want a few days of access to small ski areas like Seven Springs outside of Pittsburgh, Mount Sunapee in New Hampshire, and Afton Alps in Minnesota, a low-price option is now available for $44 per day.

For larger resorts like Vail and Beaver Creek, the Epic Day Pass is now $93 per day, down from $101 per day last season. Following the company’s 2021-22 price reset, a premium Epic Day Pass was $87 or $172 for a two-day pass. The low-end Epic Day Pass price point at $44 marks a return to 2022-23 prices for the company.

Lynch, in December , said the new Epic Day Pass options “drove significant acquisition of new pass holders late in the selling cycle last year.”

New for the 2024-25 season, the Epic Pass will provide access to Switzerland’s Crans-Montana Mountain Resort. Vail Resorts completed the purchase of an 84-percent ownership stake of Crans-Montana in November, but the 2023-24 Epic Pass did not offer access to that resort.

Vail Resorts’ major competitor, Alterra Mountain Company, has not yet revealed its 2024-25 IKON season pass prices, but last season the IKON pass was $250 more than the Epic Pass at $1,159. The Ikon Pass offers access to resorts that compete with Vail and Beaver Creek like nearby Copper Mountain, Steamboat Ski Resort and Aspen Snowmass.

This story was edited to reflect that the 2024-25 Epic Pass price is the highest pass launch price, not the highest absolute price. The full Epic Pass’ highest price was $1,099 from Nov. 22 to Dec. 6, 2020.
