Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal will on Monday visit Ayodhya along with his family members, and his Punjab counterpart Bhagwant Mann to pay obeisance at the Ram temple.

Earlier, CM Kejriwal had said that he would go to the Ram temple in Ayodhya with his family after the consecration ceremony held on January 22, and that he did not get a formal invitation back then.

“They had sent a letter, after which we called them. They said someone would come to invite (me) personally. That did not happen, but it is ok… I want to go to the temple with my wife and children. My parents are also very keen on Ram Lalla’s darshan. So I will go with my family later… after the ceremony,” Kejriwal had said.

Sources said that Kejriwal who arrived in Kurukshetra on Sunday, will address a party convention in Mohali along with Punjab CM Bhagwant Singh Mann today. The two leaders will highlight the party's achievements in the state in the last two years including the 'farmer-friendly' schemes, zero power bill, door-to-door employment campaign, Aam Aadmi Clinic, 'Har Khet' canal water and anti-corruption campaign.

Chandigarh: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) National Convener and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal along with Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann will address a party convention in Mohali on Monday March 11 to sound poll bugle for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, sources said.

It is learnt that Kejriwal reached Chandigarh from Kurukshetra on Sunday evening and will reach Mohali on Monday. The AAP supremo is scheduled to address a party convention in Mohali where he will highlight the developmental works undertaken by the party in the last two years in Punjab under the leadership of CM Bhagwant Mann.

The Aam Aadmi Party will contest the Lok Sabha elections in all 13 seats of Punjab. Sources said that the AAP is likely to highlight major achievements in Punjab ahead of the Lok Sabha elections. These include zero power bill, door-to-door employment campaign, Aam Aadmi Clinic, 'Har Khet' canal water and anti-corruption campaign. Besides, the AAP will also highlight the issue of funds withheld by the central government to Punjab.

Sources said that the Aam Aadmi Party may announce the first list of candidates for Lok Sabha elections from Punjab this week. The party is surveying the names of possible candidates for all 13 seats in the state.

Kejriwal, during his visit to Kurukshetra on Sunday March 10, targeted the Manohar Lal Khattar led BJP government in Haryana over various issues.

“When farmers were demanding compensation for damaged crops, the Manohar Lal Khattar government did not give compensation to any farmer. Where were these 10 MPs then? When the unemployed youth of the state were asking for jobs and the police were chasing and beating those youth, Where were these 10 MPs then? They were clapping, making fun of your unemployment,” Kejriwal said while addressing a party workers' meeting.

Why Arvind Kejriwal is in Punjab and who will be AAP CM face in the 2022 Assembly election

When asked who will be the CM’s face of the party for the Punjab Assembly polls in 2022, Kejriwal said, ‘discussions are going on in the party regarding this, when time comes, you will be informed’

Why Arvind Kejriwal is in Punjab and who will be AAP CM face in the 2022 Assembly election

In a bid to expand its footprint in Punjab ahead of the 2022 assembly polls, Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) supremo Arvind Kejriwal on Monday announced that the party’s chief minister candidate in the state will be a local from the Sikh community.

Why will AAP project a local from the Sikh community as chief minister?

“It will be someone who the whole of Punjab feels proud of,” said Kejriwal, addressing a press conference in Amritsar. “We feel it’s the Sikh community’s right,” he added.

When asked who will be the CM’s face of the party for the 2022 polls, Kejriwal said, “Discussions are going on in the party regarding this, when the time comes, you will be informed”.

Kejriwal, who is the AAP national convener, asserted that the people of Punjab are fed up with the present leadership ruling the state and added that the state is looking for a new type of leadership.

Who joined AAP in Punjab today?

It was at the same event that former Punjab police officer Kunwar Vijay Pratap, who was part of the SIT probing the 2015 Kotkapura and Behbal Kalan police firing incidents, also joined the party after a day of speculation over the same.

In April, Singh took premature retirement after the Punjab and Haryana High Court quashed a report by the SIT of Punjab Police into the firing incident. Later on, consequent to the orders of the high courts, the Punjab government constituted a new three-member SIT and directed it to complete the investigations within six months.

Kejriwal said that Singh was instrumental in exposing the “masterminds” behind the Bargari sacrilege case and the Kotkapura incident.

“However, the entire system ganged up against him. When he felt that nothing could be done while staying inside the system, he resigned. He left his job so that he could fight to deliver justice for the people of Punjab. I want to assure that once the AAP forms the government the ‘masterminds’ of Bargari sacrilege case will be punished,” the AAP chief said.

Singh joined the party fold in presence of Kejriwal and other senior leaders including Raghav Chadha and AAP state unit chief and MP, Bhagwant Mann.

To a question on from where Kunwar Vijay Pratap will fight the polls, Kejriwal said it will be decided later.

Why Kejriwal is in Punjab?

The Delhi chief minister had been hinting at making inroads in the state’s politics for a while now. On Sunday, he tweeted, “Punjab wants change. The only hope is the Aam Aadmi Party. See you tomorrow at Amritsar,” without elaborating any further. Punjab AAP leaders also remained tightlipped about the induction of any leaders to the party at Amritsar.

This is Kejriwal’s second visit to the state in nearly three months.

During his last visit in March, Kejriwal hit out at the Amarinder Singh-led Punjab government , accusing it of not keeping its poll promises and deceiving people.

“Captain Sahib had said smartphones will be given. Who got smartphones just raise your hands? Captain Sahib had said farmers’ loan will be waived. Whose loan has been waived just raise your hands,” he had said while addressing a Kisan Maha Sammelan organised by the AAP in Moga.

In the previous election in 2017, AAP was able to secure 20 out of 117 Assembly seats. The next elections are most likely to be held in the state in February or March 2022.

Asked if there have been any talks with Navjot Singh Sidhu, the Congress leader, who has been at loggerheads with Chief Minister Amarinder Singh, the AAP leader said, “Sidhu is a Congress leader, a senior leader. I respect him a lot. So, I think there should be no loose talk regarding any leader.”

To a question if there been any meeting with Sidhu, Kejriwal said, “If anything happens, you will be the first to know.”

Why is Sidhu unhappy with Captain Amarinder Singh?

Meanwhile, the cricketer-turned-politician, who is at the centre of a raging rebellion in the ruling Punjab Congress since his exit from the Cabinet, hit out at Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh over handling of pandemic situation in the state.

Speaking to News18 , Sidhu said, “People know that the state government is making a fool of them. They are selling COVID-19 vaccines worth Rs 400 for Rs 1600, people know everything.”

Kejriwal will be joined by his wife and parents during this trip to the sacred city, as reported by the news agency ANI.

Before the consecration ceremony on January 22, the Aam Aadmi national convener expressed his desire to visit the temple later with his spouse, kids, and parents. He expressed his desire to attend the consecration ceremony of the Ram Temple with his parents and all of his family as he claimed that the government did not send out a formal invitation for him.  He was asked to keep his schedule free on the 22nd, but no invitation was received, he said.

Samajwadi Party Skips UP Legislators' Visit To Ram Temple In Ayodhya

Legislators from Uttar Pradesh, excluding those from the main opposition Samajwadi Party, visited the newly constructed Ram temple in Ayodhya on Sunday. Residents welcomed the legislators with enthusiasm, showering flowers as they arrived in the temple town, according to PTI.

Departing from Lucknow in 10 buses around 9 am, members from both houses of the Uttar Pradesh legislature, including representatives from the BJP, its allies, the Congress, BSP, and SBSP, embarked on a journey for darshan of Ram Lalla in Ayodhya. Speaker of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly Satish Mahana and Chairman of the state Legislative Council Kunwar Manvendra Singh were also part of the delegation.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, along with his cabinet ministers, also visited the temple, where chants of 'Jai Shri Ram' resonated in the temple complex.

Deputy Chief Ministers Keshav Prasad Maurya and Brajesh Pathak attributed the Samajwadi Party's refusal to join the trip to their past actions of ordering firing on 'Ram bhakts', alleging it as part of their minority appeasement politics. Maurya, referring to the Samajwadi Party as the 'Samaaptwaadi Party', stated that all participants were attending as devotees of Lord Ram.

However, Congress MLA Aradhana Mishra defended the SP's decision, emphasising that individuals should visit Ayodhya at their convenience.

The Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD), an ally of the SP, was also part of the Ayodhya trip.

While SP chief Akhilesh Yadav declined the invitation, Assembly speaker Satish Mahana stated that visits to places of worship were a matter of personal faith, and individuals should not be compelled to attend.

Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak also stated, "After the consecration of Lord Ram in the newly-constructed temple in Ayodhya, we (all the legislators) had decided to go for a 'darshan'." "It is a wonderful sight ('adbhut drishya'). The entire world is talking about it. The way in which Prime Minister Narendra Modi has made India's cultural heritage bloom, everybody is very happy and going to the temple," he said.

BSP MLA Umashankar Singh told PTI, "The SP leaders in the meeting of party leaders had urged the speaker to facilitate the visit of the MLAs to the Ram temple . SP MLA Rakesh Singh had given in writing (requesting the Speaker) to take the MLAs to Ayodhya. Shivpal Singh Yadav had also made a similar request. There should not be any type of politics in this." He added, "Ours (BSP) is a secular party. We respect all religions. Today, on the directives of the speaker, we are going (to Ayodhya). Tomorrow, if the best mosque in the world comes up there, we will go there as well. But there should be no politics over this." Minister of State for Transport (Independent Charge) Dayashankar Singh made arrangements for the visit, an official statement said.

Pradeep Kumar Singh, also known as Guddu Chaudhary, a RJD MLA, stated: "We all have faith in Lord Ram. It is a matter of faith." For this reason, we are all traveling to Ayodhya today to receive a darshan from Ram Lalla." The Uttar Pradesh MLAs had originally scheduled a visit to Ayodhya for February 1, the day before the budget session began. However, they decided to postpone the visit in order to minimise disruption to the thousands of people who flocked to the town to honor Lord Ram.

Mamata to Visit Punjab, Meet Kejriwal, Mann Next Week

kejriwal punjab visit

Kolkata: West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee is going to visit Punjab on February 21 to hold a meeting with two AAP leaders, Arvind Kejriwal and Bhagwat Mann, to sharpen her strategy to support the ongoing farmers' protest and discuss the future of the anti-BJP forum, I.N.D.I.A.

The BJP however took potshots at the Trinamul Congress supremo's plan. According to TMC insiders, Ms Banerjee will fly to Punjab from the city in the evening of February 21. She will visit Golden Temple in Amritsar to pay obeisance. Later the TMC chief will meet the CMs of Delhi and Punjab on the farmers' agitation and the fate of I.N.D.I.A, sources said on Wednesday.

Ms Banerjee's proposed tour came to light a day after she backed the fresh protests by the farmers on their way to Delhi and slammed the police action on them. Interestingly, she and Mr Mann have already ruled out any alliance with the Congress in their states for the Lok Sabha Election.

Taking a jibe at the TMC chief, state BJP spokesperson Shameek Bhattacharya claimed, “Their stand on the farmer's movement is understandable. But their alliance has died. It has entered the autopsy room. So it is better not to talk about it. Ms Banerjee leaves the state sometimes to get some relief from huge pressure here. It is her habit. People are not bothered about it. In the coming election TMC will not be able to cross double digit.”

Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann and Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal at the inauguration of new Aam Aadmi clinics in Jalandhar on 2 March | ANI

Chandigarh: In January 2022, with barely a month to go for the assembly elections in Punjab, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) had released a catchy Punjabi song to be played at its meetings and rallies: Ik mauka Kejriwal nu…ik mauka Bhagwant Mann nu… (Give one chance to Kejriwal, one chance to Bhagwant Mann…) The focus of the poll campaign was on AAP national convenor and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, with Mann as his protégé in a subordinate role.

Two years later, ahead of the general election, the AAP in Punjab has made a clear shift in its poll strategy.

On Monday, Kejriwal launched the party’s poll campaign in Punjab with the slogan sansad vich vee Bhagwant Mann, Khushaal Punjab dee vadhegi shaan (Bhagwant Mann for Parliament, too…prosperous Punjab will rise in glory).

Dr Kanwalpreet Kaur, a professor at the Department of Political Science, DAV College, Chandigarh, said, “This is not something new, though it is most prominently visible now after the poll campaign slogan has been announced. Kejriwal has been relegated to backseat driving in Punjab politics for several months now. The prime reason has been the manner in which the Enforcement Directorate is gunning for Kejriwal, making his position within AAP precarious.”

She added: “Also, Bhagwant Mann has managed to successfully project an image of being entirely in control of his state and government. He has led an offensive and dominant attack against the Opposition. He has clearly emerged as a bold and confident leader who doesn’t need to play second fiddle to Kejriwal.”

Launching the campaign in Mohali Monday, Kejriwal said, “In Punjab, we have to win all 13 seats…We do not want these 13 seats for ourselves but for your children…These 13 MPs will be the 13 arms of Bhagwant Mann who will then make sure that the voice of Punjab is heard in Parliament.”

In contrast, ahead of the 2022 assembly elections in Punjab, Kejriwal had started campaigning in the state almost a year before the elections were due. He was not only leading the campaign in public meetings, road shows and rallies, but was also the one rolling out poll promises in the form of ‘ Kejriwal ki guarantee ’. Almost the entire election campaign was run with Kejriwal’s posters everywhere.

Mann accompanied him to gather crowds but was not made the face of the campaign. He was announced as the chief ministerial candidate only in January 2022, a month  before the actual voting was to take place.

Kaur said: “The party’s strategy in the assembly elections was to keep Mann in the background till the very end. Mann, because of his drinking habits, could have become an easy target for opponents and spoiled AAP’s entire campaign. Very little time was given to opponents to attack Mann personally.”

She added: “For the general elections now, it is Kejriwal who is on the back foot and an easy target for the Opposition because of his alleged involvement in the Delhi liquor scam, for which the ED has sent him multiple notices, and the fear of his arrest looms large. The party seems to have decided that Kejriwal should be focusing his attention mainly in Delhi.”

Meanwhile, on Friday, the party launched its Lok Sabha poll campaign from Delhi with the slogan sansad mein bhi Kejriwal, tabhee Dilli hogee aur khushahaal (‘Kejriwal in Parliament too, Delhi will be even more prosperous’).

Political analyst Baljit Balli told ThePrint that the power shift to Mann from Kejriwal was visible in AAP’s public meetings in Punjab. “The minute Mann ends his speech, people in the gathering start leaving, having little interest in hearing Kejriwal,” said Balli.

Arvind Kejriwal, Bhagwant Mann launch AAP's Lok Sabha poll campaign in Delhi

N EW DELHI: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) convener and Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal, along with Punjab chief minister Bhagwant Mann, kickstarted the party's campaign on Friday for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

The campaign was launched at the Aam Aadmi Party headquarters in Delhi, with the slogan ' Sansad mein bhi Kejriwal' , to Dilli hogi aur khush haal ' (If Kejriwal is in Parliament, Delhi will prosper).

Kejriwal expressed his dedication to serving the people of Delhi, stating that his slogan reflects the party's commitment to improving the city's well-being.

Kejriwal highlighted that Delhi and Punjab are the only states in India where electricity is provided free of cost. However, he accused the BJP-led central government, through the Delhi Lt Governor, of obstructing the progress of AAP government. Kejriwal urged the people to support him by electing all seven opposition candidates to Parliament, claiming that the central government has been trying to undermine his administration's initiatives, such as the Mohalla Clinics and ration delivery scheme.

During the election campaign, AAP workers will distribute pamphlets outlining the achievements of the party's governments.

Meanwhile, Mann expressed confidence in AAP's prospects, predicting a 13-0 victory in the Lok Sabha polls. He also criticized the Centre for withholding funds for Punjab and obstructing the work of the Kejriwal government in Delhi. Mann emphasised that having a significant number of AAP MPs in Parliament would prevent any interference with Punjab's development.

AAP has entered into a seat-sharing arrangement with the Congress party under the INDIA bloc partnership. In Delhi, Gujarat, and Haryana, AAP and Congress will jointly contest the elections, while in Punjab, both parties will field their own candidates. In Delhi, AAP will contest four out of the seven Lok Sabha seats, with Congress contesting the remaining three.

Additionally, AAP has received two constituencies in Gujarat (Bharuch and Jamnagar) and one in Haryana (Kurukshetra) under the seat-sharing agreement. The party has also announced its candidates for the Guwahati, Dibrugarh, and Sonitpur Lok Sabha constituencies in Assam.

AAP's campaign launch marks the beginning of a crucial phase in the lead up to the general elections, which are scheduled to take place in April-May. As AAP and its allies gear up for the polls, the focus will now be on garnering public support and highlighting their achievements in order to secure victory in the Lok Sabha.

Punjab BJP chief calls Kejriwal's remark on CAA betrayal with Punjab, Punjabis

Punjab bjp chief sunil jakhar on thursday called delhi chief minister arvind kejriwal's remark on caa as a betrayal with punjab and punjabis..

Punjab BJP chief calls Kejriwal's remark on CAA betrayal with Punjab, Punjabis

Punjab BJP chief Sunil Jakhar on Thursday called Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal's remark on CAA as a betrayal with Punjab and Punjabis. On Wednesday, Kejriwal reiterated his earlier remarks on the CAA stating that more migration will now take place than what happened after independence. He further claimed that law and order will collapse and subsequently lead to a rise in thefts, robberies, and rapes.

Retorting to Kejriwal's comment Jakhar said, "Betrayal is being done with Punjab and Punjabis. Congress is their (AAP's) ally in Delhi and Chandigarh...Arvind Kejriwal said in Delhi yesterday that refugees who will come from outside will commit theft and loot. Today, Arvind Kejriwal can feel a stench from the poor?" Further slamming the AAP chief for calling their party a representative of the poorer Jakhar said, "They call themselves a representative of the poor...Punjabi refugees have made a great contribution towards Delhi...I am not speaking about just the Sikh community but also about Punjabis who migrated from Pakistan and Afghanistan."

Alleging Kejriwal of insulting Punjabis he said, "Today, we have to bring back the holy Guru Granth Sahib from there and Kejriwal says that they will come and loot here. He has insulted Punjabis in Punjab...This is AAP's betrayal of Punjab and they will be taught a lesson in this election." A day ahead of this, responding to Kejriwal's criticism Union Home Minister Amit Shah asserted that the AAP supremo's outburst stemmed from his party's alleged exposure in corruption cases and said if he is concerned about national security he must talk about Bangladeshi infiltrators.

In an interview with ANI, Amit Shah said, "The Delhi Chief Minister has lost his temper after his party's alleged corruption got exposed." "He (Kejriwal) is unaware that all these people have already taken refuge in our country. They are living in India. Those who arrived in our country by 2014 will get citizenship," Shah said.

"And if he is concerned, why does he not talk about Bangladeshi infiltrators? Why does he not protest against Rohingyas? It is because they are doing vote-bank politics. He will face a very tough time during elections in Delhi which is why he is doing vote-bank politics. Are Rohingyas and Bangladeshi infiltrators not taking our jobs? He is just raising his voice against minorities of Jains, Buddhists, and Parsis," the Union Minister said. On March 11, the Union Home Ministry notified rules for the implementation of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), days ahead of the announcement of the Lok Sabha elections scheduled. (ANI)

Mamata Banerjee may visit Punjab on Feb 21, to meet Kejriwal, Mann

Banerjee’s meeting with top aap leaders is considered crucial in the backdrop of forthcoming lok sabha elections and the formation of an opposition coalition..

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee may visit Punjab on February 21 and meet her Delhi and Punjab counterparts, Arvind Kejriwal and Bhagwant Mann respectively, an official source said on Thursday.

The Trinamool Congress supremo is expected to offer prayers at the Golden Temple also, he said.

"The chief minister is likely to visit Punjab on February 21. During her visit, she will offer prayers at the Golden Temple in Amritsar. There is a high possibility of her meeting, Delhi Chief Minister and Punjab Chief Minister during this visit," the senior official, told PTI.

Banerjee’s meeting with the top leaders of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is considered crucial in the backdrop of the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections and the formation of an opposition coalition.

The possible visit of West Bengal chief minister to Punjab comes at a time when farmers are demanding minimum support price for their crops.

Banerjee has already extended her support to the farmers and condemned the attack on protesting farmers when they were trying to march to New Delhi.
