The 22 Best Travel Toiletry Bag Options in 2022 Bagsmart Away Dagne Dover Calpak Beis Paravel

A few years ago, while packing for a vacation, I unknowingly set myself up to write this article. You see, I didn’t have the best travel toiletry bag, but I thought it was at least good enough to handle some turbulence-induced jostling, aggressive rifling via the hands of the TSA, and my generally careless luggage shlepping methods. I was wrong. As soon as we arrived at our hotel, I unzipped my travel bag in search of my brand new dress. I found it…covered in…**sniffs**… body wash ? Or was that shampoo ? Or my…you’ve got to be kidding me…$150 vitamin C serum ? I’m still not sure, because my toiletry bag zipper broke at some point during my travels, leaving all of my prized 1.5-oz tinctures, creams, essences, and potions to spill.

This toiletry bag and I were acquainted since my middle school days. If I had listened to my better judgment and invested in a high-quality option, I wouldn’t have run into this vicious conundrum. On the bright side, I made the mistake so that you don’t have to.

What should you look for when buying a toiletry bag or Dopp kit?

First of all, let’s clear something up: Dopp kits and toiletry bags are the same things. You might see “Dopp kit” used for “men’s” bags and “toiletry bags” used for “women’s” bags. We don’t need to gender bags. You can buy whichever toiletry bag-slash-Dopp kit your heart desires.

When shopping for the best travel toiletry bag for you, you’ll want to look at construction. A few questions to ponder: Is the design intuitive and functional for your needs? Are the zippers sturdy? Is the fabric easy to clean? We’ve done the work of finding excellent options, now all you need to do is figure out what kind will suit your travel hygiene needs.

Below, see 23 of the best toiletry bags and Dopp kits that will keep your stuff organized and leak-free through all kinds of travel, from brands like Calpak, Bagsmart, Herschel, REI, Paravel, and more. We included hanging toiletry bags that save space in your carry-on, as well as bags that sit on the bathroom counter. You’ll find minimalist toiletry cases with no separate interior pockets, which is ideal if you’re traveling with a few easy-to-recognize items. We also added larger bags that have different zippered compartments and mesh pockets so that you can separate shower products from skin-care items and makeup. And we threw in a few luxe hard shell cases that will look so good on your counter that you’ll want to use them when you’re not traveling.

After you've organized your suitcase or weekender, the next and possibly biggest challenge is to pack your toiletry bag. While this might seem an afterthought, it's a pretty important step, especially if you don't want to arrive at your destination and realize you forgot to pack your sunscreen or open your bag to spilled body wash. Whether you're more of a minimalist or carry your entire 10-step beauty routine with you, there's something for everyone.

To help you find the right one, we tested 27 toiletry bags, rating them for capacity, design, portability, and value.

Best overall, sea to summit hanging toiletry bag.

Sea to Summit's Travelling Light Hanging Toiletry Bag impressed our testers, earning top marks across all categories. The Australian outdoor gear brand has been on a mission to build the lightest, most durable gear for more than three decades. Our testers loved how much space this lightweight toiletry bag has and its numerous pockets. "This is a great hanging bag because you can store different-size products inside without feeling like you're weighing the bag down," one tester noted.

The Travelling Light Bag, which weighs less than 5 ounces, is made from Cordura nylon. This material helps keep the weight down and offers stretch, allowing room for all the toiletries. Our testers liked the bag's convenient features, including a carrying handle and hanging hook. "There are tons of pockets, a mirror, hooks to hang the bag, and other unique features that are perfect for every trip," a tester concluded.

Best Budget

Wandf toiletry bag.

  • Design 4 /5
  • Portability 4 /5

Generous amount of space

Very lightweight

Not very compact

The first thing to know about WANDF's Toiletry Bag is that it has a ton of capacity, so much so that our testers joked that it could double as an overnight bag. Jests aside, this was a popular bag because of how much it holds and how little it weighs (just 3.6 ounces). "This is a great buy for someone who wants to bring a lot of skincare or other products along with normal toiletries," one tester said.

The bag's water-resistant nylon is thin but durable. It has three pockets for good organization and a handle for easier transportation. Our testers did say that it might be hard to fit in a smaller bag, especially if you take advantage of the size and pack it to maximum capacity. If you're looking for a larger-capacity toiletry bag or simply a budget bag, this was our testers' top pick.

Customer reviews complain about the color

This classic-looking toiletry bag impressed our testers with its durable materials, organization potential, and smart features including a waterproof pocket. The large-capacity toiletry bag is made from water-resistant polyurethane leather, features double zippers in the main compartment, and has mesh holders to keep items like toothbrushes in place.

"The material is classic, zippers are easy to zip, and the compartment with the waterproof coating is very handy and will be easy to clean," one tester noted. "It's structured enough to keep organized but still flexible enough to fit easily in a weekender bag." Our testers said they'd pay more for this than the minimal list price. "It's a great price for something that feels durable and will last for a long time," one tester concluded.

Size: 10.25 x 6.25 x 5 inches | Weight: 0.62 pounds | Material: Polyurethane leather

Best Hanging

Not the easiest to clean

Once you arrive at your hotel or vacation rental, finding a place to stash your toiletry bag can be tricky, especially if counter space is limited. Luckily, this bag's hook makes the most of limited or nonexistent space. This is a great way to keep items visible but still out of your way as you get dressed. The interior mesh pockets also help with visibility. There's even a smaller, removable compartment you can hang up.

"This bag fit all of the toiletries and still had room to spare, but only for travel-sized products," one tester said about the bag's capacity. "The design of this hanging bag was pleasantly sturdy." Our testers also liked the spacious organizational components and how the bag folds, which gives it a slim briefcase look. They also loved how easily the slender profile fits into a weekender bag.

Size: 12.6 x 9.1 x 4.3 inches | Weight: 15.8 ounces | Material: Polyester

Best Splurge

For fans of the iconic suitcase brand, the toiletry bag is another worthy addition to your Away collection. Like many of Away's bags, this thoughtfully designed bag keeps your toiletries organized and separated. The clamshell opening displays items perfectly through the mesh and clear plastic interior pockets. The nylon material is easy to clean, should you ever have a spill. Bonus: The bag can even be monogrammed on the front or back.

Thanks to some unique features, our testers loved how roomy this bag was. "I packed mostly large items, such as makeup brushes, foundation, and a compact mirror, and there was still tons of room to insert more," one tester reported. "There are different types of pockets inside the bag—one for makeup brushes, one clear pocket for makeup products, and others for whatever you'd like to put in."

The bag helped with organization, and our testers liked the top handle. "The fact that it can fit so many items and still not take up so much space says a lot about the bag. It can also carry a lot of weight," a tester noted. Our testers weren't the biggest fans of the nylon material but noted that it is water-resistant. And while they said bags with similar features could be found at a lower cost, they would still recommend this one. "I'd love to purchase it if it wasn't so pricey for a toiletry bag, but if you need organization and travel often, then this bag is a must," a tester concluded.

Best Organization

Peak design wash pouch.

A bit on the pricey side

The first key to good organization is having plenty of room for all your toiletries. Peak Design's Wash Pouch offers exactly that, with our testers noting that they had plenty of room to fit all of their toiletries and then some. "I'd be able to put my skincare products in here along with several travel-sized toiletry bottles ," our tester said, noting that they loved the product's design. It also opens wide for easy packing and accessibility. "There were plenty of pockets and even a shallow zipper pocket to hold a toothbrush," our tester reported, also praising how it sits open upright on the counter on its own. Bonus: Despite the large size and roominess, it still packs down to a small size.

Size: 10.6 x 6 x 4.4 inches | Weight: 8.7 ounces | Material: Recycled, DWR-treated nylon

Best for Extended Trips

Dare to roam steward dopp kit.

Dare to Roam

Impressive capacity

Eco-friendly

Less likely to harbor microbes

Bulkier than other options

There's much to like about the Dare to Roam Steward Dopp Kit. It features responsibly sourced materials and ethically made construction. It uses antimicrobial and water-resistant materials—features we'd like to see in many more toiletry bags, considering the amount of liquid and moisture these containers are exposed to.

What our testers loved most about this particular toiletry bag was the amount of space available, making it ideal for extended trips. The main compartment has a ton of room and a two-way zipper entry. It also features side clips and adjustable webbing straps, making the bag expandable on both sides. Our testers had no problem fitting all their toiletries into the bag and then some. "This bag is designed well and is built to really hold up," a tester reported. "The handles and lightweight feel of the bag make it perfectly portable."

While this bag did take up a lot of space when packed in another bag, it's best used for extended trips on which travelers are likely to use larger luggage anyway.

Size: 4.5 x 8.7 x 4.7 inches | Weight: Not listed | Material: Polyester, nylon

Best for Camping

Matador flatpak zipper toiletry case.

Back Country

  • Capacity 4 /5

Stripped-down but serviceable

Built to last

One large pocket

May be too simplistic for some

Toiletry bags aren't only handy for traveling. They're also helpful when backpacking and camping. For that usage, we love Matador's FlatPak Toiletry Case. The FlatPak checks off three key boxes when looking for a camping- or backpacking-focused toiletry bag. It's super lightweight (1.1 ounces), it's fully waterproof, and it has one main compartment for easy access to all items. Simply put: It's a no-frills yet incredibly practical bag.

Our testers were impressed with the bag's capacity—it fits all toiletries without getting overly bulky. They also loved its durability, waterproof material, and how the bottom of the bag expands. "For someone who goes on lots of camping or rugged outdoor trips, this bag is a great value," one tester concluded.

Size: 9.5 x 6.75 x 3.5 inches | Weight: 1.1 ounces | Material: 30-denier Cordura nylon

Best Eco-Friendly

Cotopaxi nido accessory bag.

  • Portability 4.5 /5
  • Value 4.5 /5

Nice internal organization

Not ideal for extended trips

Cotopaxi's marketing slogan is "Gear for Good." This dopp kit, which features 100 percent recycled materials, definitely falls into that category, but besides being a responsibly created toiletry bag, it's simply a good toiletry bag. The bag has three compartments to separate different items, fits a reasonable amount of toiletries, and has a convenient side carry handle. Another huge step toward planet friendliness is the longevity and durability of the product. We love that this toiletry bag is constructed to last many years and maybe decades.

Size: 9 x 6 x 5 inches | Weight: 6.5 ounces | Material: Recycled nylon with a TPU coating

Hitting it out of the park and claiming a perfect score on all our tests for capacity, design, portability, and value, the Sea to Summit Travelling Light Hanging Toiletry Bag is hard to beat. Another favorite of our testers for its generous capacity and reasonable price tag, the WANDF Toiletry Bag is light and comes in a range of bright and neutral colors.

To determine the products to include in this test, we researched the top-rated products on the market from multiple retailers, considered popular and traveler-loved brands, and relied on the knowledge of our travel editors and their experience with a variety of toiletry bags. We also aimed to include a variety of sizes, price points, and intended uses.

We tested all 27 toiletry bags in our New York City lab space. Bags were rated on a five-point scale and evaluated for capacity, design, portability, and overall value. We averaged scores across individual categories to give an overall score. Testers packed each bag with the types and quantities of toiletries that would last for a long weekend trip. Once the toiletry bags were packed, our testers took notes on how full the bags were and any unique organizational or structural features. Lastly, they placed the toiletry bags in weekender bags and carried them around to get a sense of how heavy the toiletry bags felt and how easily they could be packed into other pieces of luggage.

What to Look For in a Toiletry Bag

Whether you want something you can quickly toss products into or a hyper-organized toiletry bag with ample pocket space is up to you, but it’s important to think about how organized you usually are. Our advice? Look at how your purse or backpack is organized (i.e., is it a massive tote you throw everything into, or is everything organized in its own little pocket or bag?) to figure out how you naturally travel.

TSA Requirements

If you're carrying your luggage on a flight with you, be sure your items meet TSA requirements —one quart-sized bag of containers holding liquids in quantities of no more than 3.4 ounces. However, rather than putting all your products into a flimsy plastic bag, you can opt to throw your liquids in a reusable zippered bag instead.

Hanging Capability

Sometimes, the hotel you're staying at won't have enough counter space for a toiletry bag, especially if you're traveling with others. If you want to ensure that things don’t get too cluttered, consider a bag that can hang from the towel hooks on the back of the bathroom door. Bonus: You can use it to free up space at home, too.

Many toiletry bags are pretty easy to clean. Simply wipe down the interior, usually made of nylon with a water-resistant coating. Toiletry bags that are made of faux or genuine leather or polyester can be spot-cleaned.

If you plan to fly and take your liquids onboard with you, make sure to follow the TSA requirements, which allow one quart-sized bag of containers up to 3.4 ounces each. While it's not required to have a clear toiletry bag , if your bag is pulled for further inspection, it might speed up the process if the security agent can easily see what you've packed.

To recommend the best toiletry bags out there, we tested 27 items across various brands and price points in our New York City lab space, scoring each on its capacity, durability, portability, and value.

The author of this article,  Nathan Allen , is TripSavvy's Outdoor Gear Editor. He regularly takes toiletry bags on flights, road trips, and backpacking and camping trips. His go-to toiletry bag is the  Cotopaxi Nido  for its functionality, size, durability, and planet-friendliness.

How long I’ve been using it: Since 2019; I use this one when I'm traveling with just a carry-on.

Why I like it : The Peak Design bag is water-resistant, making it easy to clean up any spills, and I like that there is a specific compartment for my toothbrush and another for my razor. Inside, there are a ton of small pouches to keep items organized. It’s my go-to for a long weekend trip.

3 products you’ll always find inside :  Cadence Capsules , my  Quip toothbrush , and  contact solution .

How long I’ve been using it: Nine months; it is the one I use when I'm checking a bag.

Why I like it : If I’m traveling for a week or more, I’ll bring Calpak’s clear cosmetic case in the large size. I’ll admit, I was overwhelmed by the size when it first arrived, but it does fit absolutely everything—toiletries, skincare, make-up, even my hairbrush, vitamins, and full-size contact solutions—and it’s nice to have everything in one place. Plus, the clear design means I can double-check that everything’s there at a glance.

How long I’ve been using it: Eight months

Why I like it : This floral toiletry bag is so functional and versatile: it works just as well to organize makeup products and tech accessories as it does toiletry essentials. I recently brought it with me on a weekend trip and I was so impressed with how much I could fit inside this seemingly small bag. I was able to keep my travel-size face wash and moisturizer laying flat inside, along with other must-haves like sunscreen and deodorant. I used the two elastic slip pockets to keep Q-tips and my contact lenses separate from everything else. I also utilized the thin slip pockets on the top of the bag for my go-to lip balm and lip liner. The bag is compact enough that it didn’t take up much room in my weekender bag, but still tall enough that some products can stand up straight inside, like my contact solution and small Vaseline tub. Bonus: It’s made of water-resistant fabric and features a top handle to easily carry it around.

3 products you’ll always find inside : I never travel without my  Supergoop! Unseen sunscreen ,  Vaseline , and a  travel-size CeraVe hydrating face wash .

travel toilet bag kit

How long I’ve been using it:  A year and a half

Why I like it:  There’s something about Ceremonia 's colorful "market" pouch that puts me in instant vacation mode. It’s more of a makeup bag than a traditional Dopp kit, with a single main zippered compartment and no internal pockets, but that’s why I love it. Well, that and the fact that it’s also very cute and handmade from upcycled materials. It has a spill-proof lining—ideal for throwing greasy sunscreen bottles and my smudgy Marvis toothpaste in—and can fit about a weekend’s worth of product, which is really all I need and tend to use anyway (even on longer trips). Did I mention it’s also a great beach bag companion?

3 products you’ll always find inside: Victoria Beckham's Future Lash , which gives the prettiest natural lift and rinses off with warm water; the  fragrance oil I wear every day; and extra  slip silk scrunchies , because you never know when one will vanish into the void.

How long I’ve been using it: 10 months

Why I like it:  The space inside surprised me the most. I travel very light, and that applies not only to my carry-on but my toiletries as well. I take only the necessities. The toiletry case comes with five individual pockets that line the interior which is surprisingly roomy; if that’s not enough, then I can always stack my toiletries on top of one another in the center. I’ll often worry about my toiletry bottles becoming loose and leaking onto my clothes, but the one time I did have a mishap my anxiety was quelled once I saw the bag kept it contained.

3 products you’ll always find inside:   Sol de Janiero Brazilian Bum Bum Cream ,  La Roche-Posay Toleriane Double Repair UV SPF Moisturizer, and the  Viktor & Rolf Flowerbomb Parfum in the travel-size bottle.

“I don’t own this bag yet, but I think I need to. I spotted it on Instagram, and it’s the exact type of Dopp kit I’ve been looking for. With toothbrush and razor holders, an interior mesh pocket, a side pocket, and even elastic straps to stick in Chapstick, mascara, or whatever, it feels like a super smart organizing system (especially in contrast to my current method of throwing everything haphazardly into a roomy  Baggu pouch ). I love that it’s water-resistant, and the squared-off shape makes so much sense among my packing cubes. I also think the Terra collection this bag is a part of, which includes earth-toned, rugged-ready bags with tons of straps and compartments, is what might finally get me into  Calpak luggage —this Dopp kit feels like  Patagonia and  Baboon to the Moon  got together and decided to make a toiletry set for women who like a “gear” look but also want to organize their skin care products.”  — Megan Spurrell , senior editor

Dagne Dover's Mila toiletry organizer takes the Dopp kit to another level with a vertical design that gives you a bird's-eye view of your essentials. The clever design of this recycled polyester zip case makes it easy to see everything at once, so there’s no digging around for what you need. These roomy recycled nylon pouches fit much more than you'd expect, creating an easy way to organize toiletries (or electronics, or accessories) while traveling. Fat Felt Dopp Kit

A toiletry kit acts as a portable bathroom cabinet for your essential toiletries – shampoo, soap, deodorant, dental care, etc.

In many cases, these are just the basics, and you may also need to carry and organize your sunscreen, repellent, medication, and more.

We’ve likely all been there: the moment after you realize your travel toiletries have exploded in your suitcase… Well, a toiletry kit is your solution. A travel toiletry bag will help you organize all of your liquids and minimize exploding suitcase scenarios.

Organization is absolutely essential when you are living out of a suitcase. From compact to large toiletry bags to hanging travel bags, you’ll soon find the one that works best for you.

Not all toiletry bags are considered equal. We’ve done the work for you by compiling our favorite travel toiletry bags for this list, but there are different bags for different travel styles and uses. Consider the following before you buy one.

Materials and Durability

Your travel bathroom bag should be the right balance between durable and flexible. You want it to be able to fold into your backpack or suitcase while still withstanding any travel abuse. If you’re looking for the best camping toiletry bag for example, you’ll want something super rugged.

Many travel kits are made from nylon and synthetic materials, and some from leather. I suggest looking for a toiletry bag with water-resistant or waterproof materials. Also, look at the sturdiness of zippers and internal/external pockets. You should always ask yourself, how long will this bag last? The same is true for travel bags , sleeping bags , and beyond!

We checked all of these bags’ materials, the quality of the seams, and zippers too. Not all of the zippers were up to perfect standards – all reviews have noted if that is the case – but they were either more affordable or lightweight because of it.

Size and Capacity

Size is a matter of preference, but I suggest traveling as compact as possible. You should also keep your travel toiletries to a minimum; they can be heavy and take up a lot of space.

That said, you want a bag that can carry all that you need: travel-sized toiletries, a toothbrush, toothpaste, a razor, shampoo, conditioner, tissues, feminine hygiene products, condoms, cotton swabs, a hairbrush, hairpins and ties, sunscreen, etc. It definitely adds up quick! Try looking for a lightweight toiletry bag if you want to keep weight to a minimum.

Pockets and Organization

Getting a toiletry bag with organizational dividers and internal pockets will help you keep your things organized. Generally though, the more bells and whistles, the more expensive the bag. If you don’t need anything super high tech, then there is no need to fork out the extra money, but having at least a couple of pockets will make your life easier.

Ability to Hang

This is the main feature I would look for in a toiletry bag. Hanging toiletry bags are especially useful in hostels and pubic bathrooms, where you can keep your products hung neatly from your bunk bed or shower.

Easy to Clean

Since you are storing liquids, the occasional spill or leak is inevitable. You want a toiletry bag that can be easily wiped down or washed.

Below are my top picks for toiletry bags. Each one has a short review that explains its pros, cons, and best features.

travel toilet bag kit

REI is one of America’s biggest and most-loved outdoor gear retailers.

Now, for just $30, get a lifetime membership that entitles you to 10% OFF on most items, access to their trade-in scheme and discount rentals .

travel toilet bag kit

Lets’ get the bad news out of the way, this bag not available in Europe so if you are reading this in Europe, scroll on.

Not all toiletry bags were created equal. This clean and durable offering from Nomatic sets the high standard, being made from a water and stain resistant fibre which gives it years of extra life and usability when compared to inferior products.

The bag is beautifully compartmentalised so there is a place for everything and you can keep your paracetamol separate for your shampoo. The external toothbrush pocket is also a great innovation which allows quick access and also keeps it separate meaning it won’t drip onto everything else when wet.

You can easily find toiletry bags on Amazon for a fraction of the price of this but believe me, if you buy cheap you buy twice (or more). We wholly recommend investing in the Nomatic Toiletry Bag 2.0 which will last you for and miles years of travel.

  • Water and stain resistant
  • Lovely compartments
  • The toothbrush pocket is a huge win
  • Not available in Europe
  • Not exactly cheap
  • Doesn’t roll up

Is the Nomatic Toiletry Bag 2.00 For Me?

There isn’t much wrong with this bag, to be honest. The only drawbacks are that it’s perhaps not as stylish as the RER one (below) and of course, if you are reading this in Europe no the Nomatic is not for you!

Our team really loved this toiletry bag and feel it offers pretty much everything you could want from this kind of gear and more. They loved the different sized pockets on each side of the bag and how well it kept their gear organised and separated when needed. The addition of the water-resistant zippers and material also was a standout feature for keeping their wet stuff away from the rest of their gear.

REI Co-op Shower Roll

travel toilet bag kit

REI has been coming out with awesome products over the last few years, often at a lower cost than many of the famous brands they carry in-store. If you are just looking for an overall great travel toiletry bag, then their Shower Roll is an EXCELLENT choice!

This toiletry kit has a large mesh pocket and small stash pocket to organize your toiletries as well as a removable pocket at the bottom with a clear window. Having a detachable clear pouch is perfect for TSA checks or any of those moments where you don’t want to take your entire toiletry kit into the bathroom.

The webbing strap that wraps around the bag doubles as a hanging strap too. I am also a fan of the detachable mirror as were the rest of the team. They loved that the bag had a simple design that could easily just be rolled out for easy access to their gear whilst being pretty compact when needed. They also loved all the different pockets and sections each designed to carry different bits of gear which kept everything easily organised.

  • Made of light, durable ripstop nylon
  • Detachable clear pouch
  • Detachable mirror
  • Comes in both small and large sizes
  • Not cheap, though not overly expensive
  • Marked as small, but not that small

Is the REI CO-OP Shower Roll for me?

Overall, this is a smartly designed and functional product that helps you organize your items. We give REI an A for material quality, sturdiness, and convenience and yet simplicity.

TropicFeel Hanging Toiletry Bag.

The Tropicfeel FidLock Toiletry bag is designed to attach to the front of their awesome, pioneering Shell Backpack saving space inside the pack.

However, if you don’t have the Shell Backpack then the FidLock still works as a standalone toiletry bag which will of course fit inside any backpack you want to chuck it into. And a perfectly worthy toiletry bag it is too, with dimensions coming in at 16cm x 21cm x5.2cm it is designed to be the optimal size for your toiletries. It offers Easy open access with a double zipper. Includes a mesh zippered top compartment and open mesh compartment.

It’s both water and leak proof and the hanging hook feels pretty strong and sturdy to us.

  • Perfect size
  • Ideal for using with the Shell backpack
  • Very well made
  • Not big enough for sum
  • Not as durable as some

Kodiak Leather Toiletry Bag

Kodiak Toiletry Bag

In case you need a toiletry bag that is a little bit special, then go for this handsome leather toiletry bag by Kodiak. The single biggest problem you face with most toiletry bags is that after a while, the daily exposure to shower steam, water splashes and stray toothpaste splodges take their toll and wear the bag to bits. Not with this one though, its made from robust, single grade water proof leather which will last pretty much forever.

Most toiletry bags on this list are functional but this one, is seriously stylish and rather masculine. Its a very simply design, using 1 main compartment with one zip pocket on interior side wall made from heavy duty nylon liner.

Its available in both walnut brown and light brown and makes a great gift to yourself.

The team loved this for those wanting something a bit fancier and higher-end than your standard bag. They felt it was especially useful for people who might need to carry their kit in a professional setting. They also loved the feel of the material and how durable it was, especially as it ages.

  • Made of quality leather that will last forever
  • Simple design
  • A thing of beauty
  • Does not hang

best wash bag peak design

This is one of my favorite travel toiletry bags due to its organization and water-resistant material and also the fact it comes from one of my favourite tra vel brands, Peak Design .

It has a ton of pockets and thoughtfully designed dividers. The main internal compartment is divided into two, and it’s big enough to hold a 12-ounce bottle or electric razor.

There is a magnetically-closed toothbrush pocket in the middle of the bag, so your toothbrush doesn’t have to mingle with your other liquids. On the outside, there’s a razor pocket where I keep my blade, tweezers, and other small tools.

I also like this Dopp kit because it’s made out of tough, recycled 200-denier nylon. It’s light, flexible, and durable. The main drawback is that this bag does NOT hang, however.

The internal mesh pockets are coated in silicone, so they are easier to wipe clean than traditional mesh pockets. As a bonus, all pockets turn inside out for cleaning.

While not specifically a ladies toiletry bag, it is one of the most thoughtfully designed bags in terms of organization, so it works well for make-up and other items.

Our team really loved how well thought out the organisational features of this bag were and especially loved how easy it was to separate different items from each other whilst keeping them all accessible. They felt it also offered an impressive amount of storage for such a compact bag and on top of that they felt the outer material and burly zip were great for long-term use.

Check out our full review of  Peak Design’s travel backpack , which this wash bag was designed to accompany!

  • Made of light, durable, water-resistant material
  • Great for organization
  • Thoughtful design

Is the Peak Design Wash Bag for me?

Get this if you want a water-resistant toiletry case with lots of pockets and thoughtful ways to organize your things. It doesn’t hang, so buy this if you don’t usually need or want to hang your bag.

Gravel Explorer PLUS Toiletry Bag

The Explorer PLUS from Gravel is a toiletry bag with a difference. Made from high quality, waterproof, washable nylon and coming with a lifetime guarantee, once you invest in the Gravel Explorer PLUS you may never need to buy another toiletry bag again.

The Explorer PLUS is designed forensically well and internally has 8 different pockets so everything has its place from razors to, shampoo to condoms. Perhaps best of all, as its pocket is sealed and water proof you don’t need to worry too much about those unwelcome mid-air shaving foam explosions ruining the whole bag.

Finally, this highly organised, wipeable and washable travel toiletry bag also comes with an adjustable strap so you can hang it up wherever you go. Oh, and it even comes with a couple of re-usable, travel sized plastic bottles for putting your liquids into PLUS a bamboo toothbrush!!!

  • High quality materials
  • Shampoo spill proof
  • Ace Organization
  • Too organised for some
  • Quite heavy

travel toilet bag kit

The Portage Toiletry kit is a great choice if you tend to pack a lot of bottles. It sits flat and has a large space in the center section for bottles, with mesh pockets to hold your travel toiletries in place.

The bag opens in a U shape and has a few elastic bands to store your razor and make-up brushes. Zippers and zipper pull work well. Has a removable hanger hook, which is very useful.

The Portage toiletry kit comes in 3 different sizes too. Because this is a large toiletry bag, it’s more appropriate road trips versus flying, when you have to be cognizant of travel-sized toiletries.

Our team loved that there was an option out there for those of them who needed to bring bigger items like specific shampoos or lotions. The fact that the bag also facilitates being stood upright was also a massive bonus alongside the zip that allows the bag to be fully opened up from the front.

  • U Shape Opening
  • Organization
  • Not good for air travel
  • Elastic top mesh pockets are low

Is the EBAGS Portage Toiletry Bag for me?

The interior has plenty of room and has a place for just about all of your toiletries. This is a great bag if you are traveling with a lot of cosmetics or carrying things for your family, but not for air travel.

It includes zippered side pockets for extra storage and a hook and handles to hang it on a towel rack, shower rod, or doorknob.

Our team were super impressed by just how much this thing could fit in it, like, it was a proper Mary Poppin’s type bag! They loved all the different compartments and organisers which meant it was ideal for use by more than one person or a family.

  • Expandable side pockets
  • Not the best quality
  • The hanger is made of flexible plastic

The interior has plenty of room, with one large clear vinyl pocket with a zipper at the top, and a place for just about everything – from make-up brushes to toothpaste. This is a great bag if you are traveling with a lot of cosmetics or carrying things for your family .

This (synthetic) leather, the vintage-styled bag is perfect for storing your travel toiletries! The main compartment works well for shaving accessories and basic bathroom supplies.

The bottom section reveals two mesh compartments for your smaller things and has a waterproof bottom to keep your things protected.

Overall, it’s a nice and stylish bag that’s quite functional as well. It’s not genuine leather, so keep this in mind.

Our team loved the stylish and minimalist exterior of this bag which inside hides a surprising amount of organisational features. In particular, they found the bottom zippered section actually holds a lot more than they first imagined.

  • Nice vintage design
  • Good organization
  • Zippers are not great
  • Synthetic leather

rugged toiletry bag

Not only is this a rugged and durable kit, but it’s also a great travel kit for men (though as a girl I’m also a fan!). This bad boy is bomber built to handle abrasions with a hardy leather handle and heavy-duty waxed canvas, making it a great camping toiletry bag.

They also use 100% natural wool for their felt (no chemicals!) While this is a travel toiletry kit, it’s hardy enough to use for tools, bike repair tools, or an artist field bag. It’s a versatile bag!

  • Excellent Craftmanship and style
  • Doesn’t’ hang
  • Heavier than other bags on this list

Is the Fat Felt Dopp Kit for me?

The quality of this Dopp Kit is amazing. A high-quality canvas, durable and snag-proof design, a hardy zipper, and more will keep your travel toiletries protected!

Our team felt this was their best toiletry bag for camping due to the rugged nature of the materials and construction of the bag. The inside does feature a small zippered pocket but the team kinda loved the simplicity of this burly bag where you just throw in your essentials and off you go!

Nomatic Toiletry Bag

Nomatic makes some of the most FUNCTIONAL bags ever. It’s true for all of their backpacks and luggage, and no different for their travel toiletry bag. They design items for the constant traveler, the nomad, and the people who live on the road.

Check out our full review on Nomatic’s Travel bag. It’s AWESOME!

They created two toiletry bags depending on your personal packing style. Their regular size is ideal for longer trips and the smaller one (Nomatic slim) is best for the minimalist packer.

They’re made with water-resistant materials, can hang, include transparent waterproof pockets, and an exterior toothbrush pocket. The only thing we don’t love about this bag is the price, but it may be worth the investment for you.

  • Great zippers
  • Waterproof and resistant
  • Might not be big enough for some

Is the Nomatic Toiletry Bag for me?

Get this if you want a water-resistant toiletry bag if you are always on the road. You’ll be pressed to find a higher-quality, more functional bag. That said, it might be overkill if you just need a bag to get the job done.

If you’re not a nomad or constant business traveler, consider something a bit more affordable.

Now, you  could spend a fat chunk of $$$ on the WRONG present for someone. Wrong size hiking boots, wrong fit backpack, wrong shape sleeping bag… As any adventurer will tell you, gear is a personal choice.

So give the adventurer in your life the gift of convenience: buy them an REI Co-op gift card!  REI is The Broke Backpacker’s retailer of choice for ALL things outdoors, and an REI gift card is the perfect present you can buy from them. And then you won’t have to keep the receipt. 😉

There is no perfect or exact science when it comes to testing out travel and outdoor gear. That said, the team here at The Broke Backpacker do have a LOT of experience so we’ve gotten pretty good when it comes to judging gear.

Whenever we test a piece of gear, at least one team member takes it out for a spin to put it through its paces. We firstly see how well it fulfils its primary purpose, so when it came to a backpacking toiletry bag, that was things like how compact and light it was, how much it held and what additional features it had. We also were sure to test out how well-made each piece of gear was as well as how packable.

Finally, we also take into account how item costs – so when it came to expensive items, if they performed averagely they lost points, whereas budget items may be given more leeway and minor failures treated more less harshly.

Best TSA-approved Toiletry Bag

Packism Transparent Toiletry Bag: If you want to breeze through airport security without stopping to take all of your liquids out individually, Packism's TSA-approved clear toiletry bags should do the trick. At 7.5 x 5.9 x 2.2 inches, the bags are small. But that's unavoidable, since TSA rules state that liquids need to go through security in a transparent quart-sized bag – smaller than most toiletry bags on the market. The PVC bags are almost totally see-through except for the zipper and edges; they have reinforced seams to help prevent against unexpected leaks. Travelers – including airline employees – praise these bags for being sturdy and firm and holding their shape well, with many noting they've had no trouble getting through security with it. However, some warn that foreign airport security (such as in Canada) may not approve of these bags. The bags come in packs of three, and you can get a wide range of colors (note that only the bags' edges are colored).

Price: $18.99 or less for a pack of three Shop now: Amazon | Packism

Simply undo the top drawstring and your belongings will spread onto the mat. Elastic loops for makeup brushes or a toothbrush plus a zip pocket allow for some organization. Plus, there's a short lip to prevent your personal items from rolling out of the bag when it's flat. Overall, travelers like their bag and say that it fits everything they need. Some note, however, that the drawstring leaves a small opening when cinched shut. Matador flatpak waterproof toiletry case, what to consider.

Buying a toiletry bag is similar to buying a tiny suitcase—you need one that's big or small enough to suit your packing style. If you want to take every product you use in your entire nightly skincare routine and still need to pack a toothbrush and razor, then the classic single-compartment toiletry bag style likely isn't a good fit. If you're a light packer, however, a no-frills, large-pocket design that will hold only the bare minimum may be the right choice.

The materials your toiletry bag is made of will dictate both its durability and style. You'll want one made of quality materials, like durable nylon, leather, or faux leather, that can hold up to the wear and tear of both sporadic travel and daily use. If you typically take your entire bag into the shower on trips, you'll want to opt for a toiletry bag made of waterproof, or at least water-resistant, materials.

Special Features

Many toiletry bags have features that can bolster their functionality and durability: A waterproof coating on a toiletry bag means you can take it straight into the shower with you and an attached hook can make hanging it on the towel bar or soap dish easier. Many of the bags we included also have organizing features so you can separate your stuff into different compartments to keep your belongings neat and easily accessible.

How we selected

To determine the best toiletry bags and dopp kits on the market, we first had to consider the essential needs of travelers and what they're likely to be bringing on trips. We gathered toiletry bags with a wide array of special features, in styles for men and women, made from a variety of materials, and priced from budget-friendly to high-end. All of the toiletry bags we chose have an average customer rating of at least 4 out of 5 stars, so you're sure to find something that'll work for you.

This bag, which is full of well-considered storage features, is big enough for your bottles to stand upright, thus reducing the chance of leaks—and that's why it earned our best overall pick.

Multiple interior pockets keep things organized and the double-sided opening gives you easy access and visibility, thanks to the see-through panels. It's easily storable and can be used for weekend getaways and extended vacations.

Duke Armitage—an airline pilot, frequent traveler, and founder of Aviamonde —says this is a favorite of his because, “It’s large with a double-sided, fully open design and see-through compartment.” Customers agree the see-through panels add functionality and also note the construction and fabric are highly durable.

This nylon dopp kit is perfect for quick trips and overnight stays and still gives you some organization options with interior mesh pockets. Its main compartment has a double zip opening, and the flap has a button closure so you can whip it around a towel bar and snap it in place; an exterior zipper pocket gives you quick access to smaller items like a toothbrush or razor and they're held in place by elastic loops.

Customers like the techy aesthetic of this Thule and say the spill-proof pockets work great. A lot of customers who wanted a smaller option said the size is perfect, but if you tend to pack a lot of toiletries or are going on a longer trip, you may need something bigger.

If you're big on organization, then you'll love this highly functional dopp kit, which boasts ample pockets and space to keep your bathroom essentials tidy. The main compartment has a double-zip opening with six pockets and the front pocket opens flat, exposing a mesh zip pocket and multiple elastic bands to hold makeup brushes, toothbrushes, or razors.

Customers say it works well both as a daily cosmetics bag and a spacious toiletry bag; it's big, sturdy, and can be thrown into carry-on or checked luggage.

The name pretty much says it all with this cosmetics bag from Sephora that easily can double as a large toiletry bag for trips: the large main compartment has removable mesh baskets and the opening flap has elastic loops to hold makeup brushes or toothbrushes in place. Included is a removable clear plastic bag to stuff in smaller items and keep things organized.

Reviewers say this bag is a lot bigger than they expected but the extra space is welcome. They insist it holds up well, with one pleased reviewer saying that “the organization concept is well worth the money.”

The Alpha 3 is highly durable and comes with a variety of organizational features. It's made from ballistic nylon—military-grade material known for its durability—with leather trim for a sleek look.

The U-shaped main zipper compartment has multiple zippered compartments within it and the flap has a hook for convenient hanging. The zipper pockets at the side give easy access to smaller items and the compact design makes it easy to throw into carry-on or checked luggage.

Customers say the quality of this dopp kit makes it well worth the price and were impressed with the materials and durability with many saying it's one of the best toiletry bags they've owned.

If you want a minimalist dopp kit that will store just the bare essentials for your travels, this toiletry bag is waterproofed and easily packed for your next destination.

The coated polyurethane fabric is durable and easy to wipe clean, and the adjustable side buckles can compress the bag down for easier packing. The large main zipper compartment will hold a good amount of toiletries and cosmetics but if you tend to pack more than you should, this may not be your best option. Still, the size and style will work for anyone who needs a nice-looking, well-made dopp kit.

Made to be lightweight, durable, and compact, this dopp kit is great for on-the-go adventurers who don’t want to be weighed down by any extra bulk; the single large compartment has a roll-top closure and buckle to ensure nothing leaks out or gets in, and the hook makes for convenient hanging in the bathroom or shower. It has a flat-base design to stand up on a sink counter or table, making it easy to access your toiletries at a glance.

If you ask us, a good toiletry bag should have room for everything, including your favorite skincare sets , staple hair shampoos and conditioners , and must-have makeup products . A major plus is a pouch equipped with several compartments, especially one large enough to house more oversized items like your makeup brushes and tools, different sections to help you organize your goods, and enough room to fit a seven-step skin routine. Yes, it’s quite a big ask, but they do exist. Once you find the right bag, it’ll be one less thing to worry about on your next vacation.

A review from Wantastic Beauty said the pouch’s tapered design is great because of “how wide the opening of the mouth is and that the zipper extends right down the sides because you can access your stuff much easier and clearly see where everything is.”

elle line break

First and foremost, consider how big your collection is and the types of products you’ll be storing. For instance, if you tend to pack light or your routine is somewhat minimal, a small zippered pouch should suffice. On the other hand, if you’re a professional makeup artist or a beauty enthusiast with a sizable collection, you’ll want a larger case with plenty of compartments to hold all your bottles, palettes, brushes, tubes, tools, and more. Look for options with special compartments that hold bottles upright, and consider styles that can hang, as they’re easily accessible and won’t overcrowd a small bathroom counter.

Remember that the larger the toiletry bag, the more room it will occupy inside your luggage. To find a happy medium, look for styles that can store your skincare and makeup essentials while occupying a reasonable space in your suitcase or duffel.

What fabric is best for a toiletry bag?

elle line break

No matter which style you choose, it’s always a good idea to look for options made with durable, easy-to-clean materials like PVC or polyester, so makeup mishaps are a cinch to fix. Also, consider waterproof fabrics to avoid spills leaking through to the rest of the contents in your suitcase (aka, a traveler’s worst nightmare).

There are certain necessities that can make traveling a little easier: a suitcase , or if you’re packing light, a carry-on , and maybe even packing cubes if you want to maximize your luggage space. And whether you’re planning a spontaneous weekend trip or vacation , you’ll also want a travel toiletry bag to keep your beauty and personal-care items all in one place while preventing the risk of a toiletry explosion when in transit.

What to look for in a travel toiletry bag

Material: When looking for a travel toiletry bag, first think about the material. “A bag that’s easy to clean will last you a long longer,” says New York-based travel journalist Nneya Richards . Richards recommends materials like nylon or neoprene, which are water-resistant. Kim Tate , the Seattle-based travel writer and blogger behind Stuffed Suitcase , prefers options made from vinyl, a material that is durable and more often than not waterproof.

{{post.sponsorText}}

Size and weight: You’ll also want a travel toiletry bag with enough room for the toiletries you’re taking with you. A small toiletry bag will save you space, but if you’re packing larger toiletries or for a longer trip, you may want to opt for a larger kit—keeping in mind that it will take up more room in your bag. Size aside, select something lightweight; many of the options on this list are less than half a pound when empty.

Additional features: Finally, consider the additional features that’ll make traveling easier. For example, a toiletry bag with a hook or handle will allow you to hang it up and maximize counter space, while one with transparent panels can offer a clear view of your essentials for easy access. Some also offer organizational options, like compartments, pockets, or even separate pouches to keep your things in order.

Whatever your preference, there’s something for every type of traveler on this list. Scroll on for the eight best toiletry bags, as recommended by well-traveled experts.

Nomatic Toiletry Bag 2.0

Material: Not specified | Size: 10.5” L x 5” W x 1.7” H (Small) and 10.5” L x 5” W x 3.1” H (Standard) | Weight: 9.5 oz. (Small) and 11.3 oz. (Regular)

Nomatic is a favorite brand of Kesi Irvin , travel writer and owner of the online travel blog Kesi To and Fro , and its toiletry bag has the one thing she typically looks for in a kit—a hanging component. “If I’m moving around from place to place, I like having the option to hang my toiletry bag up so I can see all the products I have,” she shares. The bag boasts a convenient hanging strap to help you save counter space while on your trip and several zippered pockets to neatly store your items. Plus, its narrow profile will allow you to squeeze it into your suitcase without compromising packing space. While the manufacturer doesn’t specify the material of the bag, it’s designed to be water-resistant. It comes in two sizes, and, as an added bonus, a lifetime warranty.

Available colors: 1

  • Water-resistant material
  • Internal zip pockets
  • Lifetime warranty
  • Only one color option

eBags Pack-It-Flat Toiletry Kit

Material: Nylon | Size: 14” L x 9.25” W x 2.2” H | Weight: 10 oz.

Tate has long relied on this toiletry bag on her travels. “It has a very slim profile that won’t take up much luggage space,” she explains. While unassuming in size and appearance, it has spacious internal compartments that can hold enough for shorter or longer excursions—something to which Tate can personally attest. “It has a zipper compartment on the left, where I would keep all my skincare products, a larger zipper compartment in the middle for my deodorant and larger items, and then two zipper compartments on the right to hold my toothpaste and eye-care products,” she says. To add to its functionality, it has a hook and removable pocket mirror.

Available colors: 4

  • Slim profile
  • Spacious internal compartments
  • Can’t stand upright on its own

Dagne Dover Hunter Neoprene Toiletry Bag

Material: Neoprene | Size: 7.5” L x 4” W x 4.5” H (Small) and 9” L x 4.75” W x 5.5” H (Large) | Weight: 5 oz. (Small) and 7 oz. (Large)

I use and love this Dagne Dover toiletry bag. While I’m by no means a travel expert, it’s withstood years of long road trips and international journeys. The bag is made from water-resistant neoprene to contain spills, and it has a sturdy structure and multiple compartments to keep my things from jostling around. Plus, it zips open—and stays open—for easy access. I own the large version, which has enough space for all my beauty and personal-care products, with compartments to keep things like my razor and toothbrush from touching. A bonus: The large version comes with two additional pouches, while the smaller version includes one pouch, and both come in several stylish colors.

If anything, the bag neither has a hook nor a handle to hang it with—and if this is important to you, you might prefer the Seoul Dopp Kit , which has the stamp of approval from Richards. This particular product is made from water-resistant nylon, and it features a swivel hook and multiple storage compartments. You can shop it in two sizes and four colors, including black, gray, green, and pink.

Available colors: 9

  • Multiple interior compartments
  • Comes with additional pouches for storage
  • No hanging component

Queboom Travel Makeup Bag

Material: Not specified | Size: 9” L x 6” W x 3.1”H (Standard) and 9.4” L x 7” W x 5.5” H (Large) | Weight: 5.3 oz.

If you’re looking for something more affordable, this travel-friendly toiletry bag offers some of the convenient features of pricier options at a lower cost. It also comes recommended by Abigail A. of the blog The Lady Who Travels . It’s made from a waterproof material, and it offers a considerable space for your beauty products and a separate compartment for makeup brushes. The kit comes in two sizes: a smaller, more travel-friendly design and a larger model with more storage space, or for a few more dollars, you can purchase it as a set of two. With 12 colors, you’re sure to find an option to match your personal style. The bag folds flat when not in use to conserve space, but it also lacks the structure and compartments of most options on this list—a tradeoff for the price.

Available colors: 12

  • Separate compartment for makeup brushes
  • Folds flat when not in use
  • Minimal organizational compartments

Bagsmart Toiletry Bag

Material: Not specified | Size: 10.2” L x 4.3” W x 6.3” H (Basic), 11.8” L x 7” W x 7” H (Standard), 11.8” L x ” 5.9 x 7” H (Large) | Weight: 5.6 oz. (Basic), 10.2 (Standard), 11.7 oz. (Large)

Another recommendation from A. is this toiletry bag from Bagsmart. It’s made from a water-resistant material, and it comes in three sizes, with the standard- and large-size options boasting a separate compartment with elastic loops to hold smaller or more slender items, such as a toothbrush, razor, or makeup brushes. Each of the three options have interior mesh pockets, along with a large exterior zippered pocket lined with a waterproof layer that is great for breakable and spill-prone products. The bag is well-structured too, with a wide base that keeps it upright and prevents it from tipping over even when full. Shop it in four solid colors, including black, navy blue, pink, and gray.

  • Waterproof exterior pocket
  • Multiple organizational compartments
  • Limited colors

The Daily Edit Black Clear Travel Case

Originally $99, now $50

Material: PVC (with leather trim) | Size: 8.4” L x 3.3” W” x 3.3” H | Weight: Not specified

Travel journalist and TV host Sarah Greaves-Gabbadon of JetSetSarah recommends and uses this pick from The Daily Edit, which meets all her requirements of a good travel toiletry bag: it is transparent to offer a clear view of packed items; it has a zipper that runs all around the three sides of the bag for easy access; and it is durable to withstand repeated usage. “As an added bonus, you can personalize it,” she says, and you can have the letters of your choosing stamped onto the bag. The bag, constructed from PVC, opens up to two roomy compartments, one of which has an elastic strap to secure smaller items in place. The bag is finished with a black leather trim and gold hardware, and though it only comes in one size, Greaves-Gabbadon says is ideal for carry-on travel.

  • Water-resistant construction
  • Offers a clear view of contents
  • Personalizable
  • Only one size and color

Truffle Clarity Jetset Case

Material: PVC (with leather or nylon trim) | Size: 2.5” L x 7.5” W x 2” H (Mini), 5.2” L x 7.5” W x 2” H (Standard), 6” L x 9” W x 2” H (Large), and 6” L x 9” W x 3.” 3.75” H (Jumbo) | Weight: Not specified

Truffle Co.’s toiletry bags come in four sizes, the most of our picks of the list—and they are recommended by Greaves-Gabbadon. Like the previous recommendation, the bag features transparent windows so you can instantly see what’s inside and a zipper that runs around three sides. Plus, the standard option is just the right size for liquids and gels that comply with the TSA 3-1-1 rules . Size aside, you can choose between a leather and nylon trim and several eye-catching colors for each of the available options. The biggest downside to this bag is the lack of compartments to keep items separate and in place, but if you typically pack light, it shouldn’t be much of an issue for you.

Available colors: 8

  • TSA-friendly design
  • Available in four sizes
  • No internal organization

Anya Hindmarch In-Flight Case

Material: Plastic | Size: 3.1” L x 8.4” W x 4.5” H | Weight: Not specified

Anya Hindmarch is known for creating stylish, albeit pricey, storage systems. If money is no object and you’re looking to organize the contents of your carry-on, consider the In-Flight Case, which started Greaves-Gabbadon’s “lust” for travel toiletry bags. The water-resistant bag, made specifically for carry-on use, is fully transparent for easy visibility and features two roomy compartments with zippers that run along the three sides of the bag. According to Greaves-Gabbadon, each section is equivalent in size to a quart-size Ziploc bag to carry 3.4-ounce liquids and gels on board an airplane without risking confiscation by TSA. If you visit the brand’s website, you can also personalize the bag with a phrase or your name—it’ll just cost you a bit extra.

Available colors: 5

  • Water-proof material with waterproof fabric lining
  • Roomy interior

The Best Toiletry Bags

Seven toiletry bags of different models and styles lined up on a vacuum counter.

After nine years of testing, we know that no one toiletry bag works for all travelers.

To find the best solutions for carrying what is, essentially, a bathroom in a bag, we stuffed, shook, dunked, and examined toiletry bags meant for all sorts of travel scenarios.

After researching 69 and testing 23, we chose five bags that we liked for their style, packability, and quality of construction.

We looked at a variety of zippered sacks, hanging bags, and structured, standing toiletry cases that open from above (what we’re calling “dopp kits”).

We selected picks for a variety of travelers and those using it in their bathroom: a versatile bag for most travel situations , a dopp kit with loads of organizational compartments , an open-style dopp kit with plenty of space for larger toiletries , a compact hanging bag for light packers , and a hanging bag big enough for a family to share .

The research

The most versatile toiletry bag: state bags bensen toiletry kit, best dopp kit for organization: peak design wash pouch, best dopp kit if you need more space: topo designs dopp kit, the lightest toiletry bag: sea to summit hanging toiletry bag (small), the best bag for couples and families: l.l.bean personal organizer toiletry bag (medium), how we picked and tested, what to look forward to, the competition.

Our pick for most versatile toiletry bag, the State Bags Bensen Dopp Kit, shown upright on a bathroom countertop near a sink.

State Bags Bensen Toiletry Kit

The most versatile toiletry bag.

This bag is not, by our definition, a dopp kit, since it opens flat, like a book. Yet it offers organizational options (including a detachable pouch, handy for quick trips) that should work for light and heavy packers alike.

Buying Options

Get this if: You want a bag for both long and short trips.

Why it’s great: Though it’s not the best bag for every type of trip, the State Bags Bensen Toiletry Kit is a good option for more scenarios than any other bag we tested. It’s also a great choice for travelers who need a versatile kit that can hold enough for longer excursions as well as keep smaller, travel-size items organized.

The bag (which is made of nylon, polyster, or cotton, depending on what color you pick) unzips flat like a textbook (7 by 9 by 3 inches) instead of opening at the top, like a traditional brick-shaped dopp kit. So it offers more flexibility to stash larger and wider items, like a full-size shampoo bottle, shaving cream canister, or large makeup palette. It also has a hook, so you can hang it from a towel rack. To keep your gear organized, one side of the toiletry bag has two open pockets, and the other has a mesh zip pocket. When we stuffed the main compartment full of toiletries, the seams didn’t pucker, and it was still easy to zip closed.

There’s also a removable plastic pouch that holds up to four 2.7-ounce travel bottles. When we first tested this bag, in 2019, the plastic pouch was translucent; we loved that you could easily unsnap it for airport security checks without unloading the entire bag. In later versions of the bag, the plastic was too opaque to serve that purpose. But as of 2023, only one of the dozen or so color options (the nylon black/floral) incorporates that opaque plastic. The other options all now come with a translucent pouch.

Our pick for most versatile toiletry bag, the State Bags Bensen Dopp Kit, shown opened and hanging on a bathroom wall.

Flaws but not dealbreakers: This bag is the most expensive of our picks. The Bensen’s plastic hook didn’t break in our tests, but it’s still thinner (by a millimeter or two) than those on most of the hanging bags we reviewed. Under pressure, it bends more easily than most of the other hooks, so we’ll be watching how it holds up during long-term testing.

The detachable plastic pouch isn’t as waterproof as it appears. The pouch’s edges are lined in fabric, which sops up liquids like a sponge before leaking the contents everywhere.

Capacity: State Bags couldn’t tell us the capacity; we estimate it to be 3.5 liters.

Dimensions: 9 by 7 by 3 inches

Colors: about 20 frequently changing options—some solid, some mulit-colored, and some printed with patterns

A teal grey Peak Design Wash Pouch sitting on a tile bathroom counter.

Peak Design Wash Pouch

Countertop organization.

Minimalist-looking on the outside, this water-resistant dopp kit has lots of specialized pockets inside to hold—and keep safely separate—your essentials. Although it has a hook, it works best sitting on a bathroom counter.

Get this if: You want a water-resistant toiletry case with lots of pockets and you don’t usually need or want to hang your bag.

Why it’s great: The Peak Design Wash Pouch has several organizational pockets for your sundries; it was the most thoughtfully designed dopp-style bag we tested. Most dopp kits have at most one small pocket in addition to their main compartment, but this bag kept our items separated, so that our toothbrush didn’t have to mingle in the same pocket as our razor.

The toiletry bag opens like an accordion, and its wide base keeps it upright even when it’s full. There’s an open compartment on one side of the bag that’s big enough to hold a 12-ounce shampoo bottle or an electric razor. The other side has three mesh pockets great for keeping travel toiletries in their place, as well as a large zip pocket for stashing cotton swabs and facial tissues. Testers were pleasantly surprised to learn the bag is divided in half by a magnetically closed toothbrush pocket; it doesn’t seal completely, though, so moisture can evaporate. On the outside, there’s a pocket for a small beard trimmer or body razor, so you won’t cut yourself on a blade when digging through the main compartment for tweezers. “I love it. The compartments seem thoughtfully conceived,” said Wirecutter’s Winnie Yang. “It could hold enough for all three of us in my family times two.”

The teal grey peak design toiletry bag hung from a shower shelf.

This dopp kit is also tough. It’s made of recycled, 200-denier nylon and coated with durable water repellent (DWR), so it’s light and flexible, and water-resistant too. (There weren’t any leaks in our tests.) It has large zippers and reinforced pull tabs that didn’t snap off when we tugged hard. The internal mesh pockets are coated in silicone, so it’s easier to wipe them clean than dealing with traditional mesh pockets. As a bonus, all pockets turn inside out for cleaning.

The Peak Design Wash Pouch has a lifetime warranty.

A close up of three toiletry bag hooks on a shower shelf.

Flaws but not dealbreakers: The Peak Design’s hook has a shallower shape than the hooks on our other picks, so it’s more likely to slide off a towel bar when, say, you’re digging for a contacts case at the bottom of the bag. (Peak Design’s arc radius is roughly 200 degrees; the hook on the L.L.Bean Personal Organizer , by contrast, has an arc of 270 degrees.) We preferred to use it like a dopp kit, letting it sit on the counter; that way, it was easy to access all its different compartments without worrying about it slipping and scattering our toiletries.

Capacity: 2.5 liters

Dimensions: 10 by 6 by 4.3 inches

Colors: black, sage green

A brown blue and red Topo Designs Dopp Kit sitting on a bathroom counter.

Topo Designs Dopp Kit

An expansive dopp kit.

This contemporary-looking bag packs down flat but is still roomier when expanded than most of the dopp kits we tested. It does, however, lack pockets and a hook.

Get this if: You’re a heavy packer who doesn’t need a lot of organizational compartments.

Why it’s great: The Topo Designs Dopp Kit is fun to look at. It’s shaped like a prism and comes in solid colors or complementary color combos. It remains upright when full, yet packs completely flat for storage. Its spacious main interior holds oblong toiletries well, including a full-size hair spray canister or electric razor kit. And the structure has some give, so you can stuff the bag into sharp suitcase corners without compromising packing space.

The unzipped topo designs dopp kit showing toiletries and a brush inside.

The dopp kit is covered in an abrasion-resistant 1,000-denier nylon that’s textured like canvas and zips closed with a heavy-duty YKK zipper. The inside of the kit is lined in nylon pack cloth for easy cleaning; it doesn’t trap moisture or leak between layers. There’s also a long strap that makes it easier to grip the bag with one hand. And it has a lifetime warranty against manufacturer defects.

Flaws but not dealbreakers: Although the bag’s nylon lining helped trap small leaks, bigger spills may still seep through the bag’s zipper teeth. Like most dopp kits we’ve seen, this one has no hook. Unlike most dopp kits, though, this one has no pockets at all apart from the main compartment. If you prefer a toiletry bag that isn’t a gaping hole, opt for one of our other picks instead.

Capacity: 3 liters

A lime green Sea to Summit Travelling Light Hanging Toiletry Bag sitting on a bathroom counter.

Sea to Summit Hanging Toiletry Bag (small)

A space-saving hanging bag.

This lightweight, well-organized bag fits a week’s worth of travel-size toiletries into a compact package. It’s meant to be hung, which makes it good for tight spaces, but it doesn’t have much in the way of internal structure.

Get this if: You’re a light packer who wants to hang up your bag for easy access.

Why it’s great: The Sea to Summit Hanging Toiletry Bag (small) is our previous top pick, and we still love it. It’s compact, holds enough gear for a week-long trip, and is durable.

Unassuming in size and appearance, the Sea to Summit is small enough to stash in a backpack or laptop bag, but it holds enough travel-size toiletries to keep us supplied for a week. Once you’ve arrived at your destination, you can open it and hang it from a shower curtain or towel rod to easily see and grab your items. It comes with a shatterproof mirror, two micro-mesh zip pockets and an open pocket for toothbrushes, lip balm, and tweezers, and a large compartment for bulky lotions and hair care products.

The sea to summit bag hanging open from a shower shelf.

This toiletry bag is also tougher than it looks. Its ripstop nylon exterior didn’t tear in our tests. And the seams didn’t give when we stuffed it full of travel toiletry bottles, a toothbrush, toothpaste, facial tissues, and more. This bag comes with a lifetime guarantee.

Long-term test notes: Wirecutter’s Shannon Palus traveled with the Sea to Summit toiletry bag for two months, including a trip to Europe and weekend trips, and said she loved it: “I like how small it is, I can easily throw it in a backpack so I have meds and makeup et cetera on the plane too. There are so many random pockets, it’s easy to stash extra hair ties or a back-up $20 and not have them get lost. One complaint: One of the ties on a zipper broke off almost immediately.”

Flaws but not dealbreakers: The Sea to Summit weighs just under 3 ounces, making it lighter than our most-versatile hanging-bag pick, the State Bags Benson Dopp Kit . Its willowy shape becomes lumpy when packed to the brim with travel toiletries, so some people may prefer a bag with more structure.

And though small spills are no match for this bag’s water-resistant exterior, bigger messes may be a problem because moisture leaks through the zipper.

Dimensions: 9 by 6 by 3 inches

Colors: high rise grey, atoll blue, spicy orange

A blue and white L.L.Bean Personal Organizer Toiletry Bag sitting on a bathroom counter.

L.L.Bean Personal Organizer Toiletry Bag

A big bag to share.

This bag is inexpensive and sturdily constructed, and it holds enough to supply multiple users.

Get this if: You’re packing for a beach getaway for two or a family trip to a theme park.

Why it’s great: We like the L.L.Bean Personal Organizer Toiletry Bag because it’s big enough to hold a family of four’s bathroom essentials and it’s long-lasting.

With 6 liters of capacity, the medium-size L.L.Bean toiletry bag offers more room than the Peak Design and Topo bags combined. Our testers thought the bag was intimidatingly large for solo travel and preferred its roomy size for excursions with partners or a family. There’s plenty of space for packing full-size bathroom essentials to share among the group. We fit one full-size bottle each of shampoo, conditioner, shaving cream, and hair spray into this bag and still had room to add a hairbrush. And it’s loaded with storage features, so everything has its place. It has a wide handle, three external pockets, two interior waterproof zip pockets, a zip mesh pouch, and three small mesh pockets for taller toiletries, like a hairspray canister or sunscreen. There’s also a hook, removable shower caddy, and a removable mirror.

The sea to summit toiletry bag hanging open from a shower shelf.

The bag is heavy when crammed full, but when we suspended the bag (stuffed with shampoo, toothpaste, hair spray, and more ) by its metal hook for an hour, the hook didn’t break or bend. Its YKK zippers skate across the teeth, making it easy to open and close when full. And the bag’s abrasion-resistant cover didn’t scuff in our drop tests. The L.L.Bean toiletry bag has a one-year warranty.

A close up of the removable shower caddy on the l.l. bean toiletry bag.

Flaws but not dealbreakers: This toiletry bag has two external side pockets for stashing smaller items, like lotions or facial tissues. But they’re too stubby for a regular toothbrush, so if that’s where you want to pack your toothbrush, you’ll need a travel-size one instead.

While moisture from a spill did bead up on the surface of this toiletry bag, it’s not completely waterproof. Major spills are still a problem, as liquids leak through the zipper teeth.

After nine years of reviewing toiletry bags, we have a solid foundation in what travelers value in a bag. Still, we approached this guide as first-timers and read dozens of travel blogs, message boards, and bag review guides. We also consulted a panel made up of occasional travelers and frequent fliers to find out what matters to them the most, whether traveling across town or across the continent.

From there, we compiled a list of 69 different toiletry bags and divided them into four categories: plain bags, clear TSA-approved bags, dopp kits, and hanging bags. We reviewed each contender’s design, size, weight, storage capacity, materials, notable features (like a travel shower caddy or extended warranty), availability across retailers, and third-party reviews. We narrowed it down to 23 of the best-reviewed toiletry bags with a mix of features to accommodate different kinds of uses and various tastes in style. Then we called in the bags and tested them using the following criteria:

Overall design and construction: We reviewed each bag’s materials, the quality of the seams, and smoothness of the zippers, as well as the usefulness of each compartment. We also considered the bag’s weight, the sturdiness of its hook (if it had one), and color options, wanting to accommodate a range of tastes.

Bag capacity: We filled each bag with a selection of travel-size or full-size toiletries, depending on the size of the bag. Most bags contained a combination of the following toiletries: a toothbrush, toothpaste, mouthwash, body razor, shaving cream, shampoo, conditioner, hair spray, facial tissues, feminine hygiene products, condoms, cotton swabs, a hairbrush, hairpins and ties, sunscreen, lotion, and a pill bottle.

Shape retention and durability: We closed each bag when stuffed full of gear and noted which bags deformed and if the seams puckered or tore under pressure. If the bag had a hook, we hung it up for at least half a day and checked both the bag and hook for structural integrity.

Contents retention: We shook each bag around and dropped it on the ground to see if the contents spilled out or became rearranged during handling.

Waterproofing: We ran each bag under a kitchen faucet for a few seconds to see how well the exterior repelled water. Then we spilled a tablespoon of water inside each bag, closed it, and shook it to see how easily it would leak a less viscous liquid (like spilled eye-makeup remover or toner).

Community review: We asked a panel of staffers with varying travel needs and family sizes to look at the bags from our list and offer feedback.

We plan to call in and test new toiletry bags from Aer, Eagle Creek, and other companies. We’re also taking a look at a smaller version of one of our picks, Peak Design’s Wash Pouch.

The Matador FlatPak Toiletry Case is the thinnest and lightest bag we tested and folds flat like a sheet of paper when empty. Its roll-top design ensures there’s no wasted space, and it snaps closed with a YKK buckle. But the roll-top unfurled easily during our tests, spilling smaller items, like travel toothpaste, onto the floor.

TSA-approved clear bags

The CableintheBay TSA-Approved Clear Toiletry Bag is made of plastic that’s thinner than other clear bags we tested, so it’s easier to puncture the bag when cramming it into a suitcase. It also leaked during our spill tests.

The Tom Bihn Clear 3D Organizer Cube is made of a ballistic nylon, which is scuff-proof and tear-resistant, and it has YKK zippers, so it’ll outlast most other toiletry bags. But at just 7 by 4 by 2 inches, it’s the smallest bag we tested and barely had enough room for three travel-size toiletries. It’s also twice as expensive as other clear bags.

The Travel Smart by Conair TS78SK Transparent Sundry Bag is the largest bag in this category, at 9.75 by 6.33 by 3.66 inches. A TSA spokesperson recommended that all clear toiletry bags remain under 1 quart (typically 6 by 9 inches), and we don’t want to risk getting detained at the security checkpoint with the wrong-size bag.

The Aer Dopp Kit has narrow dual compartments that were less spacious than our dopp kit pick from Peak Design. Its compartments couldn’t hold bulky pill bottles and shaving cream canisters. And it still leaked despite its water-resistant exterior. (Since our testing, Aer has redesigned the kit—now called the Dopp Kit 2 . We’ll take a look at it soon.)

In previous years, the Eagle Creek Pack-It Specter Quick Trip was our budget pick. It has since been replaced by the Eagle Creek Pack-It Reveal Quick Trip ; we’ll be testing that model soon.

The Herschel Supply Chapter Travel Kit 5L holds more than any other dopp kit we tested, so it’s large enough for a couple to share on an extended getaway. But it isn’t leak-proof, and the bag tips over easily when full of gear.

The KomalC Leather Toiletry Bag is roomy, with enough space for full-size toiletries. But the zippers are clunky, and the bag’s lid is a flap-top design that doesn’t close completely.

The Container Store Toiletry Kit features dual compartments, which aren’t as roomy as other dopp kits we tested. The stitching was poor and unraveled with a quick tug.

The Vetelli Leather Toiletry Bag has wide storage compartments, and it didn’t leak during our tests. But those panelists who would buy a leather bag preferred the real leather of our (now-discontinued) pick from Cuyana over Vetelli’s faux leather bag; those who wanted an easier-to-clean option would have gone with one of our nylon or plastic picks.

Hanging bags

The AmazonBasics Hanging Toiletry Kit doesn’t have as many storage pockets as other bags we tested, and the bag leaked during our moisture tests.

The Freegrace Hanging Toiletry Bag is the largest bag tested, so it holds enough toiletries for a family trip. But its size makes it cumbersome to carry when full. The storage compartments are narrow, so it’s harder to fit bulky or odd-shaped items, like wide-tooth combs or hair gel, inside. The bag also leaked during our tests.

We liked the toughness of the Tom Bihn Deluxe Spiff Kit , with its YKK zippers, ripstop fabric, and reinforced carry handles. There’s also a fold-out shelf covered in Velcro that keeps four 1-ounce jars from falling to the floor. Our testers thought the jars were too small, though, and not worth the additional cost. The bag also leaked during our tests.

Best Toiletry Bag for Any Trip | Dopp Kit for Travel

Whether you like a lot of pockets or prefer to toss everything together, we’ve got the best toiletry bag for you.

REI Logo

When heading out on a trip, whether for a few days or weeks, you’ll need somewhere to store your shampoo and soap. And while your travel backpack might come with a plethora of pockets where you can stash every comb, toothbrush, and lip balm, you may want to reach for a separate pouch to carry it all, whether you call it a Dopp kit or a toiletry bag.

What's the difference between the two? Not really anything but a trademark. Leatherworker Charles Doppelt patented the term in 1919 and began marketing his leather toiletry bags as such before landing a contract with the U.S. Army during World War II to provide every soldier with a Dopp Kit. The name stuck when the G.I. Joes came home since it was more appealing than “toilet bag,” though the terms can be used interchangeably.

History lesson over, we’ll misquote Shakespeare to point out that a bag to store your toiletries is essential no matter what you call it. We prefer putting a barrier between potentially-leaking liquids and smearing soaps and clothing, so we look for bags that will contain any messes and make it easy for you to find what you need while getting ready for the day’s adventures.

We’ve teamed up with REI to bring you this roundup since it’s a great place to start your search for gear, whether it’s clothing, a new bag, or other travel essentials. You can get even more from the store when you become an REI Co-op member , including an average of 10% back annually on eligible purchases, free shipping, and a generous return policy. Members also get access to the Re/Supply store, where you can choose from returned gear that’s been thoroughly inspected. Or, trade in your used items for other members to enjoy!

So, without further ado, let’s dive in!

Matador FlatPak Zipper Toiletry Case Table

We can’t think of many worse things than rushing to repack on the last morning of vacation and arriving home to find our clothing damp because we didn’t remember to dry out our toiletry bottles after showering. If this has happened to you, avoid it next time with Matador’s FlatPak Zippered Toiletry Case.

If you’re familiar with Matador’s other FlatPak products, the Zippered Toiletry Case has the same dry-through technology that lets water evaporate through the fabric while the exterior stays dry. While the material is waterproof, the bag itself is not since some liquid could still sneak through the hole at the end of the zipper. However, it should contain most spills, and if you prefer a zipperless design, you can check out the rolltop Matador FlatPak Toiletry Case.

The 2.25-liter pouch has no internal organization, but that means you’ll have no problem tossing bottles of nearly any size inside—unless you’re trying to travel with a family-sized bottle of shampoo, that is. We tested this on a road trip, and if you don’t have to worry about 3-1-1 limits, it’s great to dump larger toiletries casually into the pouch—we prefer that there’s no built-in organization for this type of use case. When we need to follow TSA guidelines, we like that there’s plenty of room for every type of gel and lotion we want to bring, and we don’t need a separate bag for solids and other gear. Don’t worry if you don’t need to bring too much on a short trip, though. The toiletry bag’s gusseted design expands and contracts depending on what you’re packing, so you don’t need to switch to a smaller Dopp kit when traveling for a shorter time.

  • You don’t have to worry about tossing your damp bottles back in the bag since they can dry through the material
  • The gusseted design is excellent, allowing the pouch’s size to expand and contract based on the items inside
  • Air escapes through the zipper, so it’s not completely waterproof
  • There’s no internal organization

Nite Ize Runoff Waterproof Toiletry Bag

Many toiletry bags tout water resistance, but not all of them are so waterproof they can float off the side of your boat. The Nite Ize RunOff Waterproof Toiletry Bag can, though, so if you want to wash up in the lake with marine-friendly soap, go for it!

There’s no internal organization in this 3-liter toiletry bag, so it’s got enough space for full-size gear if you don’t have to worry about staying under the 3.4-ounce limit for TSA. The TPU material will keep liquids from escaping onto your other travel gear with help from the waterproof TRU Zip, so you don’t have to worry if your sunscreen bottle splits at the seam. That said, like many waterproof zippers, we find this one a bit stiff to work around the corners and its placement on the front of the bag limits accessibility. The silver lining is that it also stays put if you only undo it partway. There’s a large nylon loop at the end we use to hang the bag up in the hotel bathroom, and since it’s the same end where the zipper begins, it’s easy to open it part of the way to pull out shampoo before heading into the shower.

Oh, and if you want it to float, just blow a little air inside and zip it shut. Just be careful not to get your lips caught in the zipper—not that it’s ever happened to us!

  • You can protect your small toiletries in a waterproof pouch, keeping them dry and containing any spills from getting on your clothing
  • The zipper stays put, so you can access gear while it’s hanging without other items falling out
  • The zipper is slow to get around corners, and smudges show
  • TPU materials are a little noisy

Green Guru Upcycled Sleep Pad Travel Kit Review

If you like adopting shelter pets and feel like you’re saving books from feeling rejected when you pick them up at the secondhand store, this might be the best toiletry bag for you. The note attached to the Upcycled Sleep Pad Travel Kit tells the sweet story of a sleeping pad that can no longer hold air taken in by REI and paired up with its bicycle tube and climbing rope friends to be given new life as your toiletry bag. Aww!

True to its roots, this toiletry bag feels super sturdy, especially on the underside where it rests on salvaged rubber bicycle tube material. We have no worries when we plop this down next to a wet sink, that’s for sure. The handle is the same material, so it’s easy to grab from your travel backpack and hang on a hook in the bathroom. The pre-loved sleeping pad material on the top and inside is bright and cheery, and we’ve never had an issue with it getting mixed up with our travel companion’s gear.

Although there’s no organization inside the Travel Kit, there is a lot of space. We can fit a variety of travel-sized bottles, a hairbrush, toothbrush and paste, makeup, and more in here, and the 10-inch length will even accommodate some full-size bottles when we head out on a camping trip instead of carrying it on an airplane. It’s great that we can pull the salvaged rope zipper pull open partway while it’s hanging to get gear at the top or lie it flat to dive in and find toothpaste tabs. Either way, the colorful liner makes it easy to find what you’re looking for.

  • Made from repurposed sleeping pads, tire tubes, and climbing rope salvaged from REI, you can feel good about the sustainability of this kit
  • It packs down small when not in use
  • Since it’s all repurposed materials, you can’t choose the colorway, so you may want to pass if bright colors aren’t your thing
  • The zipper doesn’t feel as durable as the rest of kit

Gravel Explore MINI Toiletry Bag Review

The best toiletry bag for a short trip isn’t always the biggest, which is why we’re reaching for the Gravel Explorer MINI Toiletry Bag when we want to get away for a day or three. It’s a Pack Hacker Pick , so not only do we recommend this bag to our friends, it’s what we pack, too. The 1-liter capacity is enough space for the small bottles of toiletries you’ll need, and it has two compartments so you can keep your toothbrush separate from bottles that could sit on the counter of a strange bathroom or have soapy residue from the shower. However, we have to mention that the back-to-back layout means only one side can be accessed at a time.

On the toothbrush side, the fabric is a thinner water-resistant shell, both inside and out, which is great for containing the dampness that occurs when you want to brush before catching a morning flight home. Both regular- and travel-sized toothbrushes and toothpaste fit inside, although you’ll have to take the head off an electric toothbrush if that’s how you roll.

Gravel uses its QuarryPoly—a water-repellant, scratch-resistant, easy-to-clean material— for the main compartment, which has enough room for deodorant, lotion, face wash, eye drops, and a travel razer. If you don’t already own refillable toiletry bottles, the Gravel Soft 3 oz Liquid Bottles are compatible with the Explorer MINI, but other containers work well, too.

A silicone strap makes it easy to hang up the pouch at your accommodations, and it’s always nice when you can save space around a small hotel sink. It's easy to pack, too, since its size and shape fit perfectly in the odd spaces left near the top of your travel backpack or in the long space next to telescoping handles inside rolling luggage.

  • You can hang this up in the hotel bathroom, or off the outside of your travel backpack, for easy access to your gear
  • The adjustable strap is easy to loop onto bars and racks
  • If you open both zippers at once, accessing gear on one side can lead to your gear spilling out on the other
  • The compartments eat into each other’s space

Aer Travel Kit 2 Review

We loved the durable materials, internal organization, and hanging hook of the original Aer Travel Kit , and unlike some movie sequels, we think the second iteration is even better. The main compartment layout and the way it can hang from the built-in hook remains, which is great for getting it off of tiny hotel sinks. Aer also kept the kangaroo-style shelf design, elastic loops, zippered mesh pocket, and toothbrush slots. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it, right?

Changes include adding an extra toothbrush pocket on the outside of the kit. We like standing up our toothbrush to dry without sacrificing a towel to protect the head from germs on the countertop, and now our travel companion’s brush is safe, too. When we fly solo, it does the same for your razor—although you won’t want to leave either one there when you fly home. Instead, slide it in a horizontal garage in the main compartment. There’s also a beefier carry handle, but it’s rougher feeling than the seatbelt-like one on the original Travel Kit. We do prefer the softer material of the original, but considering the secondary purpose of the handle, the difference is only minimal.

As for organization, a slim front pocket is great for anything you need to grab while you’re traveling, like tissues or wet wipes, while the rear compartment is roomier for a first-aid kit, makeup compacts, or anything else you want.

The main compartment has a super stretchy mesh pocket in its top half for tiny travel accessories and a slip pocket that hides the hanging hook. On the bottom, you can vertically slide travel-size bottles in elastic loops in one pouch, although they’re not very grippy for smaller bottles. While the elastic loops could seem overkill, they keep everything in place, even when you’re running to catch a train.

  • From a hanging hook to a toothbrush garage, this kit has features that come together for a great user experience
  • It has spacious, shelf-like organization
  • Internal elastic loops struggle to store a range of toiletry bottle sizes
  • It tends to swing around its hinged hook

Best for: Full-time Travelers

Bellroy Dopp Kit In Bathroom

Keep everything organized in a sleek-looking package when you reach for the Bellroy Dopp Kit. The polyester and nylon materials are water-resistant. We’re digging this water-resistance, particularly on the interior, as it helps you keep everything spic and span. And you don’t have to worry about ruining your bag when packing away your wet toiletries post-shower. However, the logo and zipper pull are leather, which looks great but may not be for you if you’re avoiding animal products. The leather has been tanned under Leather Working Group environmental protocols, though, so that’s a good shout, although the rounded edges can make it tricky to pack in some spaces.

But enough about the outside; we like the equally luxurious mesh pockets inside where you can slide a few bottles or your contact lens case to make it easier to find later. It also has a unique magnetic toothbrush sleeve that snaps your dental gear out of the way after you’ve polished your pearly whites. During the day, we like to leave the sleeve open to let the head of our brush dry, and it also works well for a razor if you want to toss your toothbrush elsewhere.

If you have a lot of differently-shaped bottles and tubes, you might think this is the best Dopp kit since the remaining space is open for interpretation. While the minimal organization won’t be enough for those who like everything to have a specific place, we find it pretty perfect.

  • A super sophisticated Dopp kit that has just the right amount of organization without taking up too much space
  • The toothbrush sleeve is a game-changer
  • It has leather accents, so it may not be for you if you avoid animal products
  • Toiletries may get jumbled when you hang it up

Best for: Frugal Travelers

L.L.Bean Personal Organizer Toiletry Bag Review

There are enough pockets and pouches on the L.L.Bean Personal Organizer Toiletry Bag to help you sort all your travel toiletries, plus some of your friend’s. However, you'll have to remember where you put everything (which we find difficult when we’re getting ready for a red-eye flight home!). Each side has a zipper pocket that includes small mesh pockets and elastic loops, which we use for toothbrushes or razors. We find the front pocket better for short and slim gear because taller items make it more challenging to close the main compartment.

When you unzip this toiletry bag, you’ll find a large swivel hook you can use to hang the bag from a towel rack or a hook, and since the nylon packcloth exterior is water-resistant, it doesn’t matter if you splash it accidentally. Two pockets at the top are plasticky to contain liquids, so we use them for shampoo, makeup, and sunscreen. The top one is clear so you can see what’s inside, and we like that there’s a mirror that attaches to it with a hook-and-loop fastener. It comes in handy when we need to get ready outside the bathroom, and since it’s removable, you can use it to check the back of your hair. The one pocket underneath is more barrel-shaped to take advantage of available space when you zip the bag shut.

The main area has space for taller bottles in two mesh pockets and a removable shower caddy to bring the essentials with you. It includes its own hook so we can hang our soap and shampoo in the shower if there are no available shelves in the hostel or Airbnb. The material dries quickly, so you can repack it into the Personal Organizer Toiletry Bag in the evening to be ready for the next day.

  • It has lots of granular organization that takes advantage of all the available space and a removable shower caddy
  • We can fit enough gear for several days
  • It can be hard to zip down the front flap if you pack something tall inside
  • The organizer struggles to stand upright on a countertop

Osprey Ultralight Roll Organizer Review

If you’re looking for a way to keep your gear under wraps, why not opt for a kit with all the benefits of a burrito but better internal organization? While this isn’t the best toiletry bag if you need a dedicated 3-1-1 bag, we like to use it to hold solids, tools, and everything else we need to get ready in the morning on a trip. We think the folding concept is a neat way to stow a ton of gear inside a small package, and the diamond ripstop nylon, YKK buckles, and zippers are really durable. Everything looks just as great as they did the day we got it, even after a few week’s worth of use.

The inside is broken up into three larger sections and one small area, with a hook at the top we use to hang it on the back of the bathroom door. The top mesh pocket includes a mirror, and both it and the middle pocket have gussets to fit more oblong-shaped items like facial or hair care products or a larger razor with a charging cable. Below the middle pocket are two small stretchy mesh pockets that zip closed and are the perfect size for smaller items like travel toothpaste or cotton swabs. The lowest pocket is the largest. It's the same 40D nylon ripstop as the exterior, so it’s more water-resistant and works for more liquid-like toiletries, though it’s not waterproof.

  • The four separate pockets give you a lot of places to store and organize gear
  • The tri-fold is easy to open and close, even when fully packed
  • Hanging hook doesn’t have a clip to hold it in place
  • The materials aren’t waterproof, so liquids can seep through

Aer Dopp Kit 3 Handle

If you’re looking for the best Dopp kit and love Aer’s aesthetic, why not go with one from your favorite brand? We don’t think you’ll be disappointed because this one has a slimmer design that fits nicely into a small daypack or your favorite travel backpack. While the overhead clearance is a little low, forcing you to squeeze taller travel-sized toiletries inside, the capacity feels otherwise the same from the second iteration.

The Dopp Kit 3 ditches the front compartment, however, in favor of a clamshell design that keeps most of your toiletries at a glance and within easy reach. The front pocket has a self-locking YKK zipper that we like to use to leave a small opening for a toothbrush to dry out. It’s also great for wet wipes, tweezers, cotton swabs, and hair pins. Inside the main compartment, we use the wide pocket at the back for toiletry bottles, two elastic loops for a comb and razor, and a small zippered (non-mesh) pocket for tiny travel accessories. The zippered mesh pocket at the front is perfect for everything else, from containers of cream to nail clippers and other tools. Overall, we find it a great layout for weekend and week-long trips, depending on how much gear you need to bring.

  • Its balanced capacity feels right for trips lasting from a few days to a week
  • The slim profile is easy to squeeze into tightly-packed bags
  • Some capacity has been cut from the previous version
  • The elastic loops are too big for a standard toothbrush

Tom Bihn 3D Organizer Cube Review

When you’re getting ready to hop on a flight and want to pave the way for a smooth experience at TSA, you’ll want the best toiletry bag to get your gear through security. We like the clear design of the TOM BIHN 3D Organizer Cube for that, and also because it’s easier to find what you need to grab when bleary-eyed in the morning. It has a slim design that’s excellent for minimalist packing, although the relatively small size does mean you’re limited to 1 liter’s worth of travel-sized bottles. You’ll likely have to find another place for longer toothbrushes and standard-size hairbrushes, too. That said, we’ve been able to get all of our toiletries—even non-liquids—into this thing for a long weekend trip, so it ultimately comes down to how many products your routine requires.

On the other hand, the transparent urethane is easy to clean in case of spills and is thicker than a zip-top bag. It’s surrounded by ballistic nylon that you can get in various colors if you prefer to match your travel backpack. And unlike something you get at the grocery store, it has a hook to hang on the towel rod or a hook, which we find super convenient in hotels with tiny bathroom sinks. Plus, there are O-rings on each side, so you can attach a shoulder strap to carry it to the campground or hostel bathroom or to connect it to other TOM BIHN bags.

  • The slim design makes it great for minimalist packing
  • You don’t need a separate 3-1-1 bag to go through TSA
  • Everyone can see all of your gear (and stains) inside
  • It’s not large enough for longer toothbrushes, so you have to use one that’s travel size

Away Small Toiletry Bag Usage 1

Style isn’t always something we prioritize in a toiletry bag, but when renting an Airbnb with friends, it’s nice to have something you don’t mind other people seeing. It’s small and stylish enough to carry around, and the leather carry handle is comfortable enough to do so. But it’s not just a pretty face; the nylon material holds up well against splashes and spills, so it’s OK to set it down on a damp counter.

It has enough space for a weekend trip, and the organization makes it easy to find what you need. An exterior slip pocket is perfect for wipes, tissues, and cotton swabs, and the bag opens up completely clamshell so you can see all your gear at once. On the top half of the Small Toiletry Bag is a see-through zippered compartment that we loaded with travel bottles of liquid soap, shampoo, conditioner, and toothpaste. We can fit four travel bottles inside, and seeing them side by side is rather satisfying. On the bottom half is a mesh-covered compartment where you can dump all make-up tools and tubes of concealers, lotions, sunscreens, and ointments. While there is a fair amount of depth to both halves of the main compartment, travel-sized tubes and canisters still work best if you want to maximize all of the available space, and we’re happy to report that the black interior liner does a good job of hiding stains if a bottle opens en route.

  • The deep pockets are well-suited for storage
  • It’s well-structured with a water-resistant outer shell
  • There’s no option to hang it up to save counter space
  • The slip pocket is only suited for small, thin items

Topo Designs Dopp Kit Tech Pouch

Sometimes, the best Dopp kit is simply the one that won’t tip over on the counter and fall into the sink. When that’s what you’re looking for, we recommend the Topo Designs Dopp Kit because its triangular base helps it to stand upright wherever you set it down. Its spacious interior will fit plenty of stuff, although it lacks interior pockets to keep it organized. It has the rugged vibe we know and love from Topo Designs, with a tough 1000D CORDURA® fabric exterior and a 400D coated nylon Packcloth liner. It’s held closed with a YKK No. 5 zipper, which is beefy enough for peace of mind but not as huge as on some other Topo bags. As always, we like the paracord pull on the end because it makes it easy to zip it closed. Plus, it’s bright red, so it’s easy to spot even if you’re getting ready in the dark.

Inside is a cavernous space lined with bright yellow fabric. We have no trouble spotting bobby pins on the bottom of the bag or finding our favorite lip balm inside the nearly-neon interior. That’s good because, without internal organization, you have to dig through your gear to find what you’re looking for. While we would’ve appreciated a pocket or two, the pouch’s triangular shape, easy access, and overall durability mean it’s still a solid pouch that should serve you well for years while still looking brand new.

  • It stands on its own, so it won’t fall off the sink counter
  • The durable materials still look as great as the day we bought it
  • There’s no interior organization, so you’ll have to dig through your gear
  • It’s larger than other Dopp kits, which is a plus or a minus depending on your perspective

Peak Design Small Wash Pouch Plant

If you’re looking for a hanging Dopp kit with shelf-like organization and a small footprint, the Peak Design Small Wash Pouch is the best toiletry bag for you. It has features similar to its larger sibling, the Wash Pouch, but in a 1-liter design. It has accordion-like, rubbery mesh partitions in an X-shape that help organize our gear into different areas to keep our solid lotion separate from our shampoo and conditioner and slide in a razor where it won't touch our travel toothbrush and paste. The dividers serve as shelving when you use the hook to hang it up, but because the sections are not very deep, you’ll have to be careful not to bump it while it hangs, or your gear can fall out.

It has a triangular side profile, with more room at the bottom than the top, similar to other standing pouches, all wrapped up with 200D nylon coated with a DWR to ward off most stains and splashes. It’s easy to open with the grippy pull on the Zoom zipper, and the hook stows away in a slip pocket until you need it. However, it can slip out if you overpack the bag. When carrying it into the bathroom, a small piece of overhanging fabric acts as a de facto handle. While it takes a little getting used to, we really liked it once we did.

  • The wide access through the gusseted opening makes it easy to find your gear
  • We love the option to hang it up off the counter
  • Be careful not to overstuff it when it's hanging or you’ll find it hard to rezip
  • It wobbles when standing if packed tightly

Dopp kits come in handy for all types of use. Whether you're going home for the weekend or spending time overseas during this festive season, the best men's toiletry bags will hold everything you need to keep your skin, hair, and body in top shape throughout your trip. Not leaving town for the holidays? A Dopp kit is also useful as an everyday hack to help keep your beard products , electric shavers , and moisturizer nice and tidy.

Why Trust Us?

To find the best men's toiletry bags, we enlisted the help of our gear and grooming editor, and talked to five travel experts on which dopp kits they use to pack. After testing and receiving feedback on more than 50 men's toiletry bags, we found that the best men's toiletry bags are made with a waterproof material like canvas or nylon to keep any liquid spills contained (think: face washes , toothpaste , and lotions ), and to make spot cleaning easy. They should also have at least two inside pockets to separate and organize different types of products. For weekend travels, our experts says a dopp kit with a 2 liter capacity should get the job done, but for longer adventures, you'll probably need a men's toiletry bag with a max capacity of at least 5 liters. Also, men's toiletry bags with a hook are especially useful if you want to hang them in your bathroom to keep your products dry, and so you can see them easily.

Ahead, you'll find the best toiletry bags for men that'll help you stay organized. From larger options that'll hold manscaping groomers and products (which will look just as great on the road as they will on your bathroom counter) to smaller styles you can easily throw into your travel backpack, there's something in here for you. Check out all of these excellent bags below.

If you need a compact dopp kit that you can stuff a weekend's worth of grooming products in, Paravel's bag is your guy. Deputy Commerce Editor Christian Gollayan bought this Paravel kit in 2020, and he's been using it on all of his travel.

"It fits easily into my weekender bags and carry-on luggage, but is roomy enough to pack all of my essentials in," he said. Messy travelers will love its nylon fabric, which is stain and liquid resistant, and is easy to clean. Travelers who are packing for longer trips may want a bigger bag, though.

Four of our editors have been using Away's large toiletry bag (alongside the brand's bestselling luggage) because it beats out the competition. It's a reliable kit that prioritizes function as much as it does style.

For the outer, a nylon water-resistant fabric helps repel and contain potential spills. For the inner, a water-resistant fabric (again) and a nifty mesh bag help store your razors and liquids in a uniform manner. Plus, it has a sleek, discreet design that's so aesthetically pleasing.

When it comes to waterproof bags, Rains makes some of the best. Our editors love its heavy polyurethane coating and water-resistant zipper, which makes sure not a single drop gets in (or out) of its compact main compartment. One tester found that his lotion exploded inside the wash bag, and found that it didn't spill over to the rest of his luggage.

Simple, spacious, and tough as nails, this toiletry bag from Everlane is bound to last for years to come. For starters, the zipper sliders and pullers are constructed from both metal and recycled polyester.

For quick and extensive trips, this minimal bag has held up nicely without any scuffs. With five interior pockets, we've always been able to load everything from cologne and hand balm to our skincare essentials with no problem. The cherry on top is the bag can snap down for compact travel or roll back for easy access.

Lululemon’s travel kit was designed for the guy who’s on the move. Complete with water-repellent fabric and a volume of 5L, our testers found that it’ll hold everything you could need, including your electric razor , face moisturizer , and pomade —and there will still be room for more.

As far as we know, it's the only Dopp kit that's been through rigorous military field-testing. Our testers are not in the military, but still put this toiletry bag through the paces, and found that it can handle shaving cream spills and bumpy cross-country flights.

DD D&D Wanderlust Hanging Travel Toiletry Bag

Toiletry bags with hooks let you hang them on bathroom doors so they can stay dry, and allow you to easily see your grooming products. This one from D&D Wanderlust has received tons of five-star reviews for its compact design and easy-to-clean fabric.

"I use it every time I travel," says travel writer Nadia Podrabinek . "The hanging hook makes it easy to use when showering, or just storing my items in the bathroom." Though she did note that the zippers can get stuck sometimes, they're easy to open after a few tries.

Minimalist packers love this small-but-mighty toiletry bag, which has a waterproof nylon case that's hard to tear or rip. Dustin Sitar, CEO of The Groom Club , says this is the best dopp kit he's personally tested, and has been using it since January 2023. "It's great for outdoor excursions, and it's leakproof, so a broken cologne bottle won't affect the rest of your luggage," says Sitar.

Two of our travel experts recommended Vetelli's classic dopp kit, which has a leather build that can take stains and scratches and has a couple of inner mesh pouches for liquid containers. Larry Snider, VP of Operations at Casago CB Rentals, bought this toiletry bag in 2021, and has been using it for his monthly travels.

"It's incredibly functional since it has two large compartments," he says. "I use one for larger items like my shave kit and toothbrush, and I use the other one for smaller items like floss and nail clippers. It keeps everything organized, accessible, and secure." Though he did note that it takes up a good chunk of space in his carry-on luggage, so this may not be ideal if you're trying to travel light.

This small, under-$50 toiletry bag will hold all the essentials—which is great for those who want to travel light. We like this bag (1) for its simple minimalist design and (2) for its eco-friendly construction. There's also a removable pouch, which will make it easier to access the smaller things. Though at 2 L, some testers did not think this might not big enough for guys who like to pack a ton of grooming supplies.

Guys who pack for more rugged adventures, like camping, should go with a durable, affordable toiletry bag that can take a licking. Take this one from Tintao, which is an Amazon bestseller. Travel writer Ethan Williams bought this in 2019, and takes it to all his camping trips, since it can hold most of his grooming tools and larger toiletries without taking up too much room.

"The durable canvas material can withstand rough handling, and is easy to clean," he says. Though he says that the lack of inside pockets make organizing smaller items (like hand sanitizers) challenging.

Briggs & Riley Executive Essentials Toiletry Kit

Executive Essentials Toiletry Kit

Frequent fliers who like to take a bunch of grooming products with them praise this Briggs & Riley bag, which holds up to 5 L of gear. Travel writer Nick Burgess took this toiletry kit on more than 15 trips last year. "It's compact enough to slot into my carry-on, but strong enough to take the smushing when I'm cramming everything in my bag," he says.

"It also has the structure to sit on a self, as well as hook on the bathroom door." Plus, it comes with a lifetime warranty, so you can replace it for free if it breaks down. One downside: it doesn't look great. "But if you don't care too much about the aesthetics, I'd highly recommend this," Burgess says.

Tecovas Leather Travel Kit

Leather Travel Kit

Maybe you’re looking for something a little more timeless. Consider this leather bag from Tecovas, which is perfect for holding things like your electric toothbrush , razor , and other small essentials.

Leather is a go-to material for a lot of dopp kits, but our editors found that Tecovas' Presidio leather patina feels extra premium, and looks even better with age. That's why the kit's higher-than-average price tag is justified.

The 10 Very Best Men’s Dopp Kits

Compact enough to squeeze in a carry-on and durable enough to withstand years of travel..

  • Best extra-large and mini
  • Best stylish
  • Best waterproof
  • Best leather
  • Best flexible

As someone who’s particular about shampoo and skin care (I’m the Strategist’s grooming expert; I understand the importance of the perfect Dopp kit) (or a toiletry bag). To find a truly great Dopp kit or toiletry bag, I have a tick list: It must be waterproof (or at least water-resistant), have a wide opening that means you won’t have to rummage around, and have a handy loop or hook to store it wherever your destination. To find Dopp kits that meet the criteria, I surveyed ten stylish men who are always on the go , from grooming experts to creative directors. I cross-referenced their recommendations, poring over Reddit threads and product specifications, to find the best Dopp kits for every kind of traveler.

What we’re looking for

Hanger type.

One thing all the best Dopp kits have is either a hook or handle so it can be hung up when you get to your destination. It gives you back some counter space and it ensures your stuff won’t be sitting in water all day. It means you can carry it around easily instead of having to “hold it like a football,” according to photographer Gray Malin . Ones with hooks, called hanging dopp kits, take it a step further and allow you to open up the bag while it’s hanging, which gives you a full view of all your products. “It unfolds like a mini garment bag and has a little hanger so you can keep your stuff out of the sink,” Nick Greene, author of How to Watch Basketball Like a Genius , describes his pick. “It makes you feel grown,” Greene summarizes, “without busting your bank.”

Surprisingly, few of the travelers we spoke to prioritized compartments within the Dopp kit as something they were looking for. While they are a bonus, “you don’t need a lot of zippers, pockets, and compartments,” Peter Hunsinger, the co-founder of sock brand Kane 11 , says. He prefers something easy to open that allows you to see everything. Our experts were above all concerned with the size of the kit. Most of the cases below have about a five-liter capacity, which is plenty of room for your skin-care routine and travel-size toiletries, but there are a few ten-liter Dopp kits that appear on our list, which are large enough to hold a compact blow-dryer or clippers. While the latter may take up more room for those who travel light, the size is ideal for those who can’t travel without taking a chunk of their bathroom. Every bag on this list is made from a fabric flexible enough to squish into an already stuffed suitcase or weekender, so the larger size shouldn’t be a problem.

Speaking of material, that seems to be the most important thing to consider when buying a Dopp kit. Something durable, easy to clean, and water resistant is what you want to look for. You’ll find that many are made from nylon, which is wipeable in case of spills. It won’t be ruined by sitting on a wet countertop. Leather, silicone, and canvas have these qualities as well, the latter of which is another popular option among our experts. The thick material is durable and affordable, and it can look more distinguished than other common Dopp kit materials. Like the other fabrics, they can be wiped or spot-cleaned. The material on the inside is just as important. It should be easy to clean and waterproof or resistant as well. For that, nylon or canvas is the way to go.

The last thing to consider is how easy it is to get to your products, which is easiest with a Dopp kit that unzips all the way around to lie flat. This is guaranteed with hanging bags, while with others it’s a toss-up. Each of the options below either unzips fully or has a wide mouth.

Best toiletry bag overall

Aer Travel Kit

Hanger type: Hook | Size: 2.5 L | Material: Nylon | Access: Wide opening

This hanging toiletry bag comes from travel-accessory company Aer and is recommended by Barron Cuadro, the founding editor of Effortless Gent . You’ll first notice the tough ballistic nylon exterior, which he says is “crazy durable and easy to clean.” Ballistic nylon was created during World War II and used for military jackets to protect them against shrapnel, so it will definitely hold up against frequent travel. It’s water-resistant, which makes it great Dopp kit material. When you open it up, you’ll find it unzips fully so you can see everything inside. It’s lined with water-resistant fabric and has a hidden hook for hanging, which Cuadro likes because “you can save counter space while keeping everything accessible.” This toiletry bag’s capacity is only 2.5 liters, making it one of the smaller options on this list, but it’s certainly not a mini. According to Cuadro, it’s “compact” when all zipped up, but “it still manages to fit all your necessities.” It has plenty of compartments, which helps maximize the space. On the outside, there are front and back pockets as well as an exterior toothbrush holder. Inside, there are two zippered pockets and elastic organizers for your toiletry bottles.

Best (less expensive) hanging toiletry bag

Muji Hanging Case With Detachable Pouch

Hanger type: Hook | Size: | Material: Polyester | Access: Wide opening

For less than half the price of the Aer bag, you can get this one by Muji. As compared to the Aer, it’s significantly smaller and made from a cheaper material, polyester. While it might not be as nice as ballistic nylon, it’s still a very resilient and quick-drying fabric, which makes it a solid option for a Dopp kit. This Muji case is the bag Greene said made him feel “grown,” with its garment-bag-style hanging option. Inside, there are two zippered pockets and a removable pouch that can be used separately, giving you two bags in one. The smaller insert can be taken on shorter trips, or you can use it as a wet bag to take to the pool on your vacation.

Best extra-large toiletry bag

Patagonia Black Hole Cube

Hanger type: Carry loop | Size: 10L | Material: Polyester ripstop | Access: Wide opening

Sometimes you have to think outside the box to find the best solution to your problem. Bags that aren’t technically Dopp kits, such as this Patagonia packing cube , might actually be the best thing for storing your toiletries. Like the rest of the brand’s products, it’s built for the outdoors. Matt Kays, a senior vice-president at PR Consulting, relies on this Patagonia number for its ripstop, practically indestructible exterior. He actually has two: He uses one as a Dopp kit for travel and the other as a wet bag to hold his things when he goes to the beach, so you know the water resistance is serious. This packing cube doesn’t have many compartments, which Hunsinger actually appreciates. It unzips to lie flat and opens like a hard-shell suitcase: Both sides are separated by a mesh zippered partition. One side alone can hold a pair of shoes, so you’d easily be able to stuff all your grooming products as well as clippers or a travel blow-dryer in here if you needed to. This bag has both a top handle and a daisy chain for clipping it to something else or hanging it from a hook.

Best (less expensive) extra-large toiletry bag

Topo Designs 10L Cube Pack Bag, Olive

Hanger type: Carry loop | Size: 10 L | Material: Nylon | Access: Wide opening

This is another packing cube turned Dopp kit. But here, you get the same-size bag for half the cost. Topo Designs makes a specific, triangular-shaped toiletry bag, but barber Mark Miguez, of New York City’s Friend of a Barber , prefers its ten-liter packing cube because it lies flat, adding that he has used “so many Dopp kits for work” and that this is the one he has been happiest with. It’s cheaper than the Topo Designs Dopp kit. It’s made from  400D nylon , which has great abrasion resistance, water resistance, and tear strength. It has a U-shaped opening, so it lies flat, and you can easily toss in and retrieve your products. It has a nice loop handle, which makes it easy to hang in places without counter-height surfaces. There are no compartments inside, so you’ll want to make sure your toiletry caps are screwed on tight and not breakable, as there’s nothing to hold them in place.

Best mini toiletry bag

Mini Kenyatta Want Les Essentials Bag

Hanger type: Two carry loops | Size: 4 L | Material: Organic cotton and nylon | Access: Double zip opening

Photographer Johnathon Daniel Pryce ( @garconjon ) travels for weeks at a time, so he needs a toiletry kit that fit his essentials without being bulky. “I’ve owned this style for about six years now,” he says. “It’s gone around the world with me and it still looks brand new.” With a double zip, there’s easy access to your toiletries, and a removable nylon liner makes wiping clean any spills fuss-free. It’s also pleasing to look at, says Pryce, who also regularly takes the bag to both the beach and the gym.

Best waterproof toiletry bag

Tooletries Koby Bag

Hanger type: No carry loop | Size: 5.9 L | Material: Silicone | Access: Average opening

Tooletries makes waterproof silicone accessories that suction to your shower wall, making your grooming tools accessible and the whole experience more streamlined. It has thought of everything from a soap holder to a beer holder to a shower mirror and has brought its technology outside the shower with this silicone Dopp kit. Its waterproof, leather-looking, antibacterial silicone is what Kyle Bergman, former senior merchant at Birchbox and founder of Swoveralls, loves most about the bag, saying it’s “leakproof and essentially stain-resistant,” as well as “very easy to clean.” It doesn’t have as much of a handle as some others, but based on the product images, the loop seems to have been designed to be big enough to fit a finger through, though using it with a carabiner to hook on to another bag might be more comfortable. It’s a medium-size bag compared to the other Dopp kits on this list, but Bergman was still impressed with the size: “It’s like an old-school Chevy Suburban inside with the amount of room it has for various products.” He didn’t mention the zipper or how easy it was to access products, but the opening is visibly smaller than others on this list. You’ll still be able to access your toiletries, but you might not be able to see them all at once.

Best toiletry bag with a waterproof compartment

Herschel Chapter Dopp Kit

Hanger type: Extra large carry loop | Size: 5 L | Material: Nylon canvas | Access: Wide opening

Dylan Raasch , senior design director at Nike , always travels for work with this toiletry bag from Herschel. “I’ve been on dozens of trips with it and it looks as new as the day I bought it. It’s easy to clean and seems to fit everything I need without having to dig around.” It doubles as a travel and storage item, where Raasch keeps his things organized so his partner can take up shelf space with her toiletries. The bag is also a favorite of Strategist editor Maxine Builder. She says it has just the right amount of pockets — enough that everything has a space, but not so many that she forgets where she’s put something. She’s also a fan of the oversize hook, which has “proved to be really useful when I’m digging through a duffel bag .”

Best leather toiletry bag

Dopp Admiral Travel Kit

Hanger type: Carry Loop | Size: 3.6 L | Material: Leather | Access: Wide opening

For a classic option, here’s the original Dopp model that gave these kits their name. Investment banker Tsz Hin Kwok says he has used his leather Dopp kit “pretty much daily” for the past few years because it’s longer than most other kits (but still portable). We reached out to Dopp, who told us that Kwok’s exact model is no longer in production, but pointed us towards this remarkably similar option. Like Kwok’s, the kit is also made from leather, which means it’s built to last and luxurious. At a length of 10.25, it’s great for oblong items like a hairbrush, or full-size tubes of toothpaste or hair gel if you’re checking a bag. The kit also has a flat bottom and a wide mouth like a vintage doctor’s bag, as well as a convenient carry loop.

Best luxury-leather toiletry bag

Leatherology Double-Zip Toiletry Bag — Cognac

Hanger type: Carry loop | Size: 5.5 L | Material: Leather | Access: Wide opening

For something that will inevitably be smeared with toothpaste, it feels slightly wrong to recommend anything too extravagant, but if you are prepared to make more of an investment, this leather kit is a splurge I can wrap my head around. It’s good-looking but not too precious to get dirty. The outside wipes clean anyway, and the inside lining is water resistant in case of leaks or spills. These double zippered pockets are equal in size, adding to the “structural” design that made Gray attracted to it. (And it looks a lot like the $1,790 Tom Ford bag the Points Guy recommended to us but comes at a fraction of the cost. ) It’s perfect for overpackers, traveling with a partner, or just separating your a.m. and p.m. routines. As Gray says, “It just fits everything.” It has the extra-special touch of being customizable: You can choose between signature and premium leather, and if you purchase it from Leatherology, there is an option to monogram it for an additional $10 to $15. Malin went with a rose-gold monogram, but you can pick from 22-karat gold, silver, or other options.

Best flexible toiletry bag

Topo Designs Men's Travel Kit

Hanger type: Carry loop | Size: 3 L | Material: Coated nylon | Access: Wide opening

Thomas Pardee , brand director at Lupine Creative, likes this flexible toiletry bag that’s easy to squish into tight spaces in his suitcase. That’s not to say the bag is small. “The triangular shape is deceptively roomy,” Pardee says. It sits upright on any surface without tipping over, but in case of spills, its coated-nylon fabric is water resistant and easy to wipe clean. The kit also has a heavy-duty zipper with handy grab tabs to pull on, as well as a sturdy strap to loop over a hook.

Travel + Leisure / Daisy Rodriguez

After a relatively quiet month at home, I’m gearing up for a busy travel season . And with four spring trips on the horizon, I’ve already started mentally packing — only there are a few things I need to purchase before actually filling my suitcase.

Conveniently, Target just discounted 900+ travel essentials, including carry-on spinners , weekender bags , packing cubes , and more. I’ve personally got my eyes on the 40 percent-off self-care kit that shoppers called “perfect” for anyone “who is constantly on the go,” and this cooling sleep mask that quite literally “relieves headaches.” Keep scrolling to check out more travel markdowns to snag at Target before your next trip.

Wander LN Self-Care Kit

Let’s be real: travel can take it out of you, both physically and mentally. Even a quick flight or weekend away has this tendency to irritate my skin, which is why I prioritize self-care a little extra while jetsetting. This 40 percent-off kit just so happens to have everything you need to stay pampered throughout your travels. The set includes a satin hair tie, protective hair wrap, and eye mask so you can get your beauty sleep — even at 40,000 feet in the air. Shoppers raved that the satin is “soft and luxurious.”

Asutra Sleep Mask

I require a sleep mask while traveling if I want any real chance of an in-flight nap, and this weighted Asutra design is just about as good as it gets. It’s made of 100 percent silk with a lavender scent to lull you straight to sleep. It even has a cooling gel to soothe puffy eyes, which are inevitable after a long travel day or early flight. One shopper called it “pain relief in a jar,” while another customer said to “run to the store” for the mask if you “have sleep problems.”

Open Story Hardside Carry-on Spinner Suitcase

There’s a reason shoppers are obsessed with this discounted Open Story spinner . According to one reviewer, it “fits perfectly” in overhead compartments and is “easy to wipe clean [of] any scuff marks.” Another customer called it “a rockstar” and “a super smooth ride.” The design, which can expand by two inches for extra space, features several zippered pockets for your prized possessions and eight wheels that easily glide through the airport. Plus, it comes in seven different vibrant colors to spice up your airport look.

Wndr LN the Overnighter Weekender Bag

Every traveler (yes, even the casual variety) knows the importance of a good weekender bag. It’s a versatile option that can serve as an in-flight carry-on or cover the whole packing job for quick road trips and staycations. This on-sale Wndr LN design ticks all the necessary boxes thanks to a trolley strap, interior laptop bag, and the separate zippered compartment that’s perfect for shoe storage. One shopper called the bag “high quality” and “well designed,” while adding that the “details on the inside and outside” of the style “make it perfect for short and long trips.”
