Nordic Visitor as a Workplace

reykjavik excursions jobs

As the travel industry is very fast paced, we're always striving not just to keep up, but to stay ahead. So we encourage our staff to continually develop their talents with a professional training program.

Work Processes and Organisation We've been steadily working towards streamlining our operations and improving our work processes.

Nordic Visitor has a clear strategic vision, which staff help shape through regular company-wide workshops. Employees are also kept up to date on major initiatives and regular operations with our monthly internal newsletter.

In order to track all of our major projects, we have implemented work processes and use collaborative systems to enable teamwork. Throughout the years we have also developed and adapted front- and back-office software that communicates with both our external website and accounting system. This system maintains a detailed record of all our tours, as well as income and expenses.

Work Facilities Nordic Visitor’s head office is located in Iceland. Since 2016, the home of our Iceland office has been Bíldshöfði 20, 110 Reykjavik. This location gives us room to grow, while ensuring a spacious, bright and comfortable work environment for everyone. It also benefits from ample parking and is in close proximity to Strætó city bus stops. The facilities also include a large, inviting cafeteria where lunch is served daily and complimentary snacks, tea and coffee are available during working hours.

The Stockholm office is located in a renovated office space at Alsnögatan 11, on lower Södermalm. The space is bright and airy and offers comfortable working facilities. There is also a beautiful outdoor spaceas the office has access to a large shared terrace overlooking the canal. The Stockholm office space also includes a large conference/lunch room, complimentary snacks, tea and coffee available during working hours, and a shared, in-house restaurant serving lunch, drinks and “fika”.

The Edinburgh office is located at 139/2 George Street in the New Town and at the heart of the city centre. The space is bright and airy and offers comfortable working conditions and a stimulating work environment. Located close to shops, restaurants and the beautiful Princes Street Gardens, the office has views of Edinburgh Castle and Firth of Forth. There’s a meeting room, breakout space and kitchen facilities. Employees have access to complimentary snacks, tea and coffee during working hours.

reykjavik excursions jobs

We also encourage open communication throughout the company. Therefore, we regularly conduct opinion surveys, in association with trade union VR, to check on our employees' well-being at work. Time and again, results show that employee attitudes regarding Nordic Visitor, both as an employer and as a company, are very positive.

Employee pride and satisfaction also rank consistently high, so our employee turnover has remained low. In our most recent VR survey, Nordic Visitor scored among the highest of all tourism companies in Iceland in terms of employee attitudes toward their workplace.

Nordic Visitor has been honoured as “Company of the Year” at the Iceland labour union’s annual awards ceremony for four consecutive years, from 2017 to 2020. This is thanks to the positive perception of the company among staff members and the high rate of staff participation in the annual VR survey.

The aim of the survey is to examine the working conditions and well-being of employees, their attitudes towards managers, and the quality of communication in the workplace, to name but a few. Therefore, this VR recognition is extremely valuable to us. It is a confirmation from the people behind Nordic Visitor that we are on the right track when it comes to our focus and Human Resources policies.

The atmosphere outside of the workplace is just as dynamic. Nordic Visitor has a very active employee association, with regular social events organised by both the company and our in-house social committees.

Iceland tours

Reykjavik Outventure

The reason why you travel, is because you want to experience magic. You want to experience the feeling which you get from watching all the videos & pictures you see online about a destination. So why should you settle for anything but the best?

What Jóhann – the founder of Reykjavik Outventure – has been doing while building up the leading travel company in Iceland and beyond, is to raise the standard of the quality of the tours by levels.

Reykjavik Outventure was founded in 2018, and did what everyone else did: offering average service but selling it as a premium service. However, that module was miles away from being what Johann wanted.

Why should travellers be unhappy when they are on their dream vacation? Or why should they be “just satisfied“ when they want to experience magic? When they have high expectations but only to leave Iceland with a feeling of; it was ok, and not exceptional!

We decided we wanted to everything differently and offer absolutely first class service throughout. That’s why Reykjavik Outventure has been the most exciting travel company in Iceland lately and has the fastest growing 5 star ratings since Reykjavik Outventure took off again after COVID.

Reykjavik Outventure stands out from everyone else when it comes to quality and is in a league of its own. Our team consists of many of the best guides in the business that make a great experience, exceptional! You as a travellers should never settle for anything less than the best. This is when magic happens.

Everyone who has had the pleasure of touring Iceland with Reykjavik Outventure has lovely stories to tell, translating into a reliable reputation in the tourism industry. As members of the European Tourism Association (ETOA), we are committed to enabling a sustainable environment in ways that make Iceland appealing for all visitors. We are also a fully licensed company working as members of the Icelandic Travel Industry Association (SAF) to actively promote their slogan of “Professionalism in Travel and Tourism.”

Private Tours and Trip Planning

At Reykjavik Outventure, a lot of thoughts and planning goes into every tour as we believe in giving only the best experiences. We pride ourselves on our premium services that reflect our personal touch. With our expert knowledge and personalized services, we can share the love of all things Iceland while giving you exactly what you need. So, if you need a fully personalized private trip itinerary, Reykjavik Outventure will be only too happy to make that happen. With our numerous private tour options and small group tours, we are also willing to advise you on which would be perfect for your touring needs. We also have family-friendly trips that can be planned many days in advance, with details to make your tour a spectacular one. Feel free to check out our tours to decide which works best for you.

To give you the full experience, we design all our private trips in partnership with guest houses and selected hotels with impressive ratings. At Reykjavik Outventure, we pay attention to their level of comfort, locations, and affordability to ensure that your budget still gives you the best quality. Our local guides are the best at what they do. They will ensure your safety during different activities, including snowmobiling and ice caving. If there is anything we can assure you of, it is that booking with Reykjavik Outventure gives you an automatic ticket to an experience of a lifetime in a friendly and safe environment.

About-Reykjavikout

Reykjavik Outventure’s Team

family tours Iceland

Elsa the queen

queen, queen, queen and queen [email protected]

Elsa is the heart of Reykjavik Outventure.

This company could not operate without her. Although she is not involved with day to day business, she takes care of the children, house, she runs to buy cinnamon buns, hot chocolate and what is needed when no one else can do it.

She has saved Reykjavik Outventure´s face multiple times 🙂

And no decision is made without she having the last word. Because she is the real BOSS.

What To Do In Iceland

Jóhann THE Viking

Director of operation & owner [email protected]

Jóhann or Jói is a funny guy who speaks a lot (in a good way) and loves telling stories. He’s very open, although he thinks of himself as being shy. His hair has started to fall out but he doesn’t mind, so it’s alright to stare. A good guy who enjoys swimming in the – 2°C ocean in all weather conditions and plays football (real football: soccer). He eats red meat for every meal (even breakfast) and is always up for an adventure! Jóhann used to be a fisherman from the age of 11. He went to the Navigation School in Iceland and learned to become a captain on ships. He is a father to two children and takes care of all the marketing and sales at Reykjavik Outventure along with entertaining on the Northern Lights tours.

Jóhann has taken 3 courses studying weather in Iceland. So you can say he’s a weather specialist 🙂

There are not many that study Northern Lights like he does. He absolutely loves to study how they appear.

children friendly tours

The KINg baltasar

Decision maker & CEO I [email protected]

Baltasar is the son of Jóhann. He is the Decision maker at Reykjavik Outventure and all ideas and decisions have to go through him. If he smiles, that means yes. If he starts to cry, that also means yes. Luckily, he always smiles. At Reykjavik Outventure’s office, he is called the King. That’s because he always wants to let us hold him. You could get lucky while in Iceland and meet “the King”. It is hard not to smile when around this ol’ toothless guy 🙂 Baltasar has a degree from the University of Iceland in being the most adorable baby in the world. He can be adorable in so many ways.

team member

Ása is old but gold

Managing director

Oh Ása oh Ása.

Thank God for her!

She took Reykjavik Outventure to a different level.

Jóhann the owner and Ása general manager are absolute polars.

Ása is a vegan while Jóhann is a carnivore.

But they are the perfect match and Reykjavik Outventure could not have found a more suitable person.

She is super organised and thinks about every little detail on everything.

Not only does she have red hair, but she also also speaks 9 languages.

Yes! She speaks 9 of them. Danish, Swedish, Norwegian, English, Icelandic, French, German, Spanish & little bit of Finnish.

She has 2 super powers! Red hair and 9 languages.

You wont meet her on a tour though. But you might meet her at one of our Exhibitions 🙂

Jóhann Guðni Jóhansson

Sales manager

Sæmi is one of the kindest person you can meet. He is our sales manager and takes care of all incoming inquiries and make sure you will have the time of your life here in Iceland.

He has never been addicted to coffee or tee. So he only drinks water here at the office.

There are worse habits to have than that 🙂

female visitor

queen Eseandre

our blogger

Eseandre is the oldest employee of Reykjavik Outventure.

Starting in 2019 when we first needed a blogger.

Not only is she a fantastic writer, but she also has great humour and one would think she is a model.

She’s a graduate from university of Bradford where she learned her writing and fantastic English.

iceland tour guide

bence alt mulig mand

Operation assistant manager

Bence used to be the chocolate master at Reykjavik Outventure.

All the great Trip Advisor reviews you’ve read about the delicious hot chocolate, is because of him! But then he resigned from that job and is now our “alt mulig mand” or operation assistant manager to put it into some fancy words . That means he does a little bit of everything here at Reykjavik Outventure. But mainly helping to keep the operation running smoothly and being Gosi’s right hand.

Tour guide iceland

Gosi the first

operation manager

Gosi is one of a kind. He’s probably the most reliable person that you could ever find.

That’s why he fits perfectly for the most difficult job at the company.

He always has a smile on his face and loves to have a good beer and a cigar.

Woman smiling

Customer support

Sylwia has been the person every team should have!

Well organised, disciplined, always smiling, always happy and a great person to be around.

She is on the level of quality that Reykjavik Outventure wants to be at and wants to maintain being at.

Our Driver Guides

iceland tour guide

Magnús the viking

driver guide & weird but fun

Magnús is a super lovely person. But super weird as well. But also SUPER fund!

He actually owns the house where Reykjavik Outventure keeps all of its buses.

So if he doesn’t get his pay-check, then Reykjavik Outventure doesn’t have any home anymore.

Magnús drives Týr. Týr was the funny God which made all the jokes. Just kidding. But welcome on board on Týr.

He gets on with everybody and there is always fun on his tours.

He knows how to keep up positive and great energy on the tours.

Ps. He sold his Porsche to buy a dog.

iceland tour guide

Daniel the r9

the driver guide we finally got

Reykjavik Outventure had been trying for months to get Daniel on the team.

Getting Daniel was like getting Ronaldo the Brazil one finally on our team.

Daniel drives Thor! That’s because if there is the slightest chance of seeing Northern Lights, Daniel will find them! Because he is the weather God Thor.

Not only is Daniel a workaholic but he also runs a vegan fast food place in Iceland.

He eats carrots for breakfast and tomatoes for dinner.

Then he goes out to entertain tourists.

Going out with Daniel once? You will ask to do it again! He’s addictive.

Or at least it looks like it when travellers come from his tours.

Travellers

experienced driver guide

Palli is one of the most experienced driver guides in Iceland.

It is difficult to get old dogs like him that are great entertainers, but he truly is good at what he does!

Palli can do literally anything there is to do in Iceland, except flying a Helicopter or an airplane. At least not that we know of.

He is also a red head cutie like Bjartmar.

I am not sure if he was ever in the model business like Michael. But he could have a career there.

Icelandic Festivals

our photographer & driver guide

André is our Portuguese speaking guide! He is one of the sweetest persons we have ever met.

If you get on a tour with him, you will be lucky since he is a great entertainer and also a complete gentleman.

André also has a hidden quality that is not hidden at all! He is a photographer and a videographer.

So if you get on a private tour with us and want a photographer, then ask for André 🙂

Traveler

Joanna the smiley one

driver guide

Joanna fits perfectly into our team of guides.

We pride ourselves of having many of the best guides in the business and the best team of guides.

Joanna fits into that category.

It’s impossible not to smile on a day with her. She just lights up every room she walks into 🙂

iceland tour guide

Michael model

driver guide & a model

The minute I saw this photo of Michael, I had to put it online. This photo does not reflect him at all 🙂

He is not the type of person who sits top naked for modelling. But he is a comedian though.

Michael is one of the most experienced guides in Iceland and has done it all.

He is sweet, patience, relaxed and has a great serious humor.

He is truly an elite guide like the rest of our team are.

Team member travel guide

Árni the viking

Driver & glacier guide

Árni is one of the most experienced guides in this country.

He has truly done it all and seen it all!

He owns a huge monster truck which he loves to show off on.

He’s one of the sweetest guides and person you will ever find. You can count on him and he’s always 200% committed to his work.

Lava tours iceland

Northern lights guide

Bjarni is our big bear.

He is one of the main Northern Lights guide in our team and drives a moderated Sprinter on bigger tires.

He has few stories and jokes in his pockets and is a fantastic person to be around.

His only flaw is he supports Liverpool.

But we can live with that.

Competitors Got The Job Done

We had booked the northern lights tour with Reykjavík Excursions for the first night we were in Iceland. We were there for 5 nights and every night it was cancelled. We used a competing company called EastWest the last night and they did not cancel the excursion, and we were able to see the lights that night in brilliant fashion. Our guide even took pictures and gave us hot chocolate and blankets! Same price as RE by the way. I recommend using a different company for this trip.

We appreciate you taking the time to share your feedback with us. We value all our customers' experiences, and we're sorry to hear that about your experience. We continuously strive to improve, and your comments will help us in that process. Please feel free to email us at [email protected] and kindly provide us with your booking reference, so we can investigate the matter thoroughly. Thank you again, and we wish you all the best.

Unfortunately the northern lights trip was cancelled due to the weather. It was very disappointing as we were only able to go on that specific night. Reykjavik excursions did provide me with a refund within 4 days.

We're truly sorry that the bad weather prevented us from enjoying the northern lights tour together. Your satisfaction is important to us, and we thank you for your understanding. We'll strive to make your experience better next time.

It was great it was so fun and amazing we all had a wonderful time everywhere we went was so fun and funny i ate snow it was tasty it was great nothing was boring except the bus ride ofc but it was overall fun and a nice experience

Went on the south shore tour at the start of the week. The weather was not on our side, but we did get some great views along the way. The tour was the highlight of the holiday. The glacier was stunning!!

We went on the Golden Circle tour on Monday 29th January 2024. Our host was Kris who was very informative and helpful. Our driver Anna? Was very good and handled the coach well in difficult driving conditions. We alsobooked for the Northern lights tour but it was cancelled every night (4 nights running) due to bad weather

Thank you for the fantastic review! We greatly appreciate your kind words about our guide and how they made your journey memorable. It's unfortunate that the Northern Lights tour didn't proceed as planned, but we would be delighted to welcome you back for another attempt next time you visit. Why Should You Work in Iceland?

The extremely beautiful country embraces great natural surroundings and warm people. Iceland is not among the most preferred destination for work due to its small population, extreme weather conditions , and limited urban areas. But it has some of the most unexpected reasons that can persuade you to find a job right away.

  • People who crave a simpler and richer life should think about moving to Iceland. It is a place that embraces a natural vibe, away from hectic urban lifestyle, traffic, and chaos. You would find peace and happiness as you work in Iceland.
  • You will live among friendly, warm, cozy, and hospitable people. Icelanders are known for their welcoming behavior, meaning you will find a home away from home with great people around you.
  • Icelandic people are family-orientated, which means they are great at managing and maintaining a work-life balance. Companies respect your family time and understand your commitments when needed.
  • You will experience equality in the workplace; it has been a gender equality leader for a long time. Women are expected to get the same pay/salary as men for any role in the company. All companies have provisions to allow paternal leaves for men expecting kid(s).
  • Most Iceland companies do not follow a hierarchal culture; they provide equal opportunity to share ideas, give opinions, and extend their suggestions. Your feedback will be welcomed with open arms towards achieving the organization’s goal.
  • Iceland is an isolated island with limited companies and population, which means it embraces a healthy competition and allows every employee to think creatively about improving the existing plan. You will be participating in your organization’s innovation and development as every employee is considered a family.

Above all, the greatest treat for you in Iceland is the mesmerizing nature and breath-taking attractions. The natural hot springs , mountains covered under a snow blanket, lustrous green forest, thrilling hiking trails, and eye-captivating glacier lagoons offer you enough compelling reason to move to this incredible country.

Know Your Eligibility

You need to be a citizen or should have a legal work permit to work in Iceland. You need to follow legal guideless and regulations to find work in a European country. If you’re a citizen of member countries, the European Economic Area (EEA) and The European Free Trade Association (EFTA), you can work and live in Iceland for about three months. You don’t need a work permit and visa to live and work in Iceland if you belong to any of these member countries. After this, you have to register to Iceland’s legal domicile, apply for a Kennitala, a unique national security number, and a tax card. If you’re a member of Schengen countries, you can also enjoy free movement as European Union citizens.  Some of the Schengen countries are Denmark, Greece, Spain, Belgium, Finland, Malta, Netherlands, Sweden, Portugal, Estonia, Poland, and Norway.

As a non-EU and Schengen member, you can apply for three types of work permits. These permits are given to people based on their educational background and experience.

  • Athletes: If you’re a coach or an athlete, the chances of getting an Icelandic work visa are higher, especially if you belong to National Olympic teams and clubs registered under the Sporting Association of Iceland.
  • Qualified Professionals: Iceland is a place that always requires skilled professionals, including researchers, computer engineers, doctors, and professors. You can apply online for these positions to work as an Au-Pair, which means working on a contract for a specific period and a particular company. But remember, you have to prove your worth against an Icelandic or EEA citizen.
  • General Laborers: These are temporary work permits given to applicants for field lacking the required number of general laborers to fill the temporary shortage. The Icelandic, EEA, or Schengen country members are given priority for this work, but you can try your luck to grab this opportunity.

Try Your Luck at The Largest Employment Sectors

Like any other country, Iceland has different employment sectors to meet the demands of its citizen and tourists. Some of the booming sectors/industries are business management, creative arts and designs, media, energy, and utilities, finance, and law. Applicants can apply for jobs in different sectors based on their educational qualifications and experience. Other than the mentioned sectors, three larger employment sectors of Iceland employ a major workforce – Fishing, Manufacturing, and Tourism. Due to strong connections with the sea, fishing and fisheries are among the most popular occupations in Iceland. Iceland is one of the most sustainable seafood industries globally, home to some unique waterbodies. The sector alone employs over 9,000 people in fishing and fish processing units, which means most Icelanders work in this sector. You can try your luck by working in this industry after meeting the requirements; remember, it is a promising industry that can help you earn rewards while in Iceland. Aluminum smelting makes most of the manufacturing sector in Iceland. It is a process that involves energy intensively to produce high-level fluoride waste. There are three sites in Iceland, Grundartangi, Straumsvik, and Reyðarfjorður, that make aluminum majorly for export purposes. The abundance of geothermal energy provides the reason for the existence of this industry/sector. If you have expertise in any of these fields, you can apply to work in the aluminum extraction companies/sites as it is one of the most demanding industries in Iceland.

Tourism is an industry that defines Iceland ; most of its economy is based on its flourishing natural attractions, which eventually adds to the growing tourism. Iceland is a heaven on earth that most people love to explore and consume; that makes it one of the most favorable tourist spots among people from around the world. You can work as a certified guide in Iceland if you know the place better and help people explore the country. You can apply at any tourism company of renting cars, selling souvenirs,  planning trips for customers, or even going on these trips and activities. The sector is always booming despite different weather and climatic conditions, which means your profit will not be compromised if you work diligently. All these industries have carved their importance in the growing and stable economy of Iceland. These are safe but competitive employment sectors that can help build a fruitful career for yourself in stunning Iceland. You need to contact employment agencies or reliable employers to get a job opportunity, which would require certain tests, exams, or interviews. Getting a legal work permit to work in Iceland requires going back and forth with many formalities, but the hassle is worth it once you get to live in god’s own country amid clear blue sky, gigantic mountain peaks, luscious green forests, and adventurous hiking trails.

Job Hunting – The Tricky Part

Iceland is a relatively smaller country making it easier for you to find a company that matches your skillset and expertise. You should start with a basic search on Google and LinkedIn to get in touch with potential employers. You need to build a convincing curriculum vitae (CV) and a cover letter to look professional and match industry standards. Look for local websites to align things according to Icelandic job format. List your experience and educational background as needed, with clear descriptions of your work and expertise. Having a recommendation from an employee of the same company or someone from a senior position can make a huge difference in your profile. The other thing that can help you land a job in your court would be building a connection online using social media. Don’t forget to follow the company and employers on social media to better know the company while applying for a job. Networking is a key to your new career in Iceland; if you succeed in making a presence, your chances of getting a job become higher. You can also look for different locations that are best to match your skills, e.g. if you’re an artist looking for a platform to showcase your creations, you should visit places in Iceland that display the best artwork from different artists.

There are several online resources and employment agencies that can help you find a job in Iceland. As working in Iceland also includes summer jobs, internships, and co-op, you should look for every opportunity for increased employment chances in this stunning northern country. Some of the leading job search websites are Alfred , Job.is , Northstack , and Starfatorg . These websites or apps can help find jobs related to a particular sector or industry. You can opt for Starfatorg or Reykjavik City if you’re looking for jobs as a caretaker, teacher, or would love to work with people with disabilities. Besides this, you can also contact native employment agencies for a job opportunity by signing up for them, and based on your skill set, they can help you find a job. Most of these agencies present big companies that do not advertise their hiring events. Most people interested in general labor work or warehouse jobs contact these employment agencies as their direct contacts prove beneficial for getting the job. Some of the most popular employment agencies in Iceland are Radum , Intellecta , Hagvangur , and RR Radgjof . Getting an appointment by signing up with these agencies becomes easier as they directly connect with the employers. The recruitment agencies can also help you search for the job opportunity that best suits your work experience and educational background. Another significant way to find a job is by subscribing to the local Icelandic newspaper. As you may be in another country while looking for a job in Iceland, the best way is to subscribe to these employment newspapers online. These newspapers cover major areas of employment and industries which suits your expertise the best. Be more flexible with the available options and pick the best that matches your requirements.

Rude Staff and No Customer Care

We booked an excursion to the Sky Lagoon with a bus transfer through Reykjavik Excursions which was to pick us up at 12:30 for a 13:00 start at the Lagoon. We waited at bus stop 13 from 12:15 and by 12:45 it had not turned up. Our hotel receptionist kindly phoned the company to be told we might as well get a taxi as it’s only a 10-15 minute journey. We paid £20 for a taxi and got a receipt. After our return to the UK we emailed RE to request a partial refund as we had used their bus to return to the hotel however they refused a refund and said the bus did arrive but as we weren’t there we were marked down as “no shows”. That it a complete lie as there was also another couple at the same stop who also had to get taxi. I would not advise using this company for any excursion as their staff are rude and couldn’t care less about their customers. If you want to go to the Sky Lagoon book direct on their website and arrange your own transport to the Lagoon.

Review This tour was very disorganised. We arrived at the bus stop 13 at the designated time. After 10 minutes the bus had not arrived so we called the company. She notified me that the bus was at the stop however, it was down the road 3 blocks away. It was not clear where the bus was supposed to be. They should have said it would be outside the hotel not at the bus stop 13. We then had to wait 25 minutes in the cold as the bus was full and they had not compensated for extra people due to people not seeing the northern lights the night before. Us and 5 others were put on a bus and driven to the Reykjavík excursions terminal while the bus driver was speeding through the streets. We had paid to be collected from our designated bus stop at a designated time and it was not honoured at all. When arriving at the bus terminal we were told we had to wait in a long line and collect a paper ticket as they couldn’t do any QR codes on our mobile tickets. This was not specified on the booking as if this was the case we would have printed our tickets out. We left an hour later than the booked time. Very disappointed at how disorganised this tour was and how they had no compensated for the extra people which they should be aware of due to the Northern lights being a 50/50 chance of seeing.

Expensive and uberslow

Expensive, slow and probably the worst shuttle service I have ever experienced. Rent a car instead of throwing your money away on this ultraslow and unstructured “service”. It took two hours from the airport to our hotel, Third-world shuttlebusses do better!

Used the airport transport this…

Used the airport transport this November, easy, reasonable cost & efficient service. Dragana at the BSI bus terminal had excellent customer service skills when helping my aunt re- locate her suitcase after taking the wrong one by mistake. This had nothing to do with BSI, however Dragana went above & behond to help us. Thank you for your help & kindness.

Absolutely disgusted with the customer…

Absolutely disgusted with the customer service we have received following our complaint. We had booked with this company for an airport transfer, told our transfer window was 3am until 3:30am at which time the bus would depart. We were promptly there by 3:15am, my Father has a health condition & urgently had to use the bathroom we explained this & we were told, “Do not worry, we will not leave without you”. But they did! We had to pay a substantial amount of money for a taxi for myself, my sister & our elderly parents. My sister contacted the company regarding compensation just to receive a very rude email stating that they couldn’t do anything, & that it should be noted two others from the hotel successfully boarded the coach!! We were then told our names were not on the list for the coach, despite have a confirmation booking printed by reception. After a reply to this email the company have since said our names were actually on the list, despite initially stating it wasn’t! Avoid this company at all costs!!! Take your money, do not provide the service & then lie again & again!!

We had an absolutely amazing trip doing…

We had an absolutely amazing trip doing south coast tour with snow mobiling. we had been looking forward to this from December 2022. We had Herman as our tour guide for the day, he was so knowledgeable, kind and an absolute amazing guide to spend the day with! Nothing was too much. On our way home Herman even pointed out the northern lights which we were absolutely delighted to see 😍 Thank you so much Herman, if anyone is thinking of booking this trip we can highly recommend it, ask for Herman as the driver.

Excellent Customer Service

Excursions very well organised. Our Blue Lagoon trip was cancelled due to possible volcanic activity. I booked an alternative which was pleasant but sauna and steam rooms weren't working. I wrote to Reykjavík Excursions when we got home and the gave us a satisfactory proportional refund very promptly. Also, tried twice to see Northern Lights but weather didn't oblige, so we have the opportunity to use voucher again within next 2 years.

Golden Circle Classic Tour…6 hours

I went on Golden Circle Classic Tour on November 26th. Pick up at Bus Stop 1. Good visibility and the sites are amazing. The Tectonic plates at Thingvellir National Park, the Geysers and the Waterfall. Unforgettable. And super guidance and care from our guide and driver, BG and Ragga.

Fantastic 😍

Booked the glacier lagoon and diamond beach day trip, no problems, it was amazing as was our guide Albert who took us to extra stops on the tour. The driver was great too although I regret I cannot remember his name. Definitely book this tour and take the boat trip around the lagoon. Also booked horse riding and airport transfers with this company. Both were great.

Informative and Enjoyable Trips

As we had no car and no local knowledge, Reykjavik Excursions enabled us to see more of Iceland than we could have done if we'd travelled around on our own. The guides also provided lots of information about Iceland. Special thanks go to Leifur for his informative commentary. We were delighted to find he was the tour guide on our third trip too. As the weather was not the best on the third tour, Leifur gave us the opportunity of staying at tourist attractions for a shorter time so that we could visit some extra tourist attractions - bonus! Everyone was happy on probably the wettest and windiest day of the week. If you only book one trip - choose the South Shore Adventure : a Black Beach, a glacier and waterfalls (with the perfect opportunity to get even more wet). Being able to walk behind a waterfall and get drenched released the child in most of us: lots of laughing all round. If you want something a bit different and don't mind being in a slightly enclosed space: do the Lava Tunnel.

We booked an excursion Hvammsvik Hot…

We booked an excursion Hvammsvik Hot Springs online, supposing that there is a transfer! But NO! There was no information about transfer on the website. We decided to call the operator and ask for the possibility to book a transfer, but there was no option for that! The company that provide a great variety of excursions has NO transfer! What a disappointment!!! How can we, tourists, book a transport separately from this activity in one or two says! That's impossible! We've lost more than 100 euro !

South Shore Excursion

My partner and I were booked on to the 'South shore Adventure'(Reykjavik Excursions)and sadly due to high winds the tour was cut short. The black sand beach was ommited-The Glaciers too and Vik village. The tour guide made no apology and to be honest she needs to brush up on her personable skills. The tour guide seemed to portray a high degree of lacking in enthusiasm and for me this left the day completely flat.

I have nothing but good things to say…

I have nothing but good things to say about this travel tour company. We used them during are Iceland Northern Lights tour. The tour guides do a great job educating the guests to be ready for a fantastic outing that is up to Mother Nature to cooperate. If plans don't goes as planned you can rebook for a different day if your schedule allows. They also helped with the Fly bus transportation pick up from hotel to airport on departure.

Five Star Customer Service

Second Tour of our 4 day trip and we cannot say nicer things about this tour operator. For some reason our second trip date was wrong (for a day we weren't in the country!) at the customer service desk at BSI Bus Terminal the three ladies working could not be more helpful. They asked no questions and kindly changed the booking for the correct day meaning that we could go on our trip. We cannot thank them enough! Will definitely use them again next time in the country.

Tour ruined by the driver

I should have looked at their reviews before travelling. i am not complaining about the tour but the whole experience was ruined by the driver. we were travelling with our child who sometimes doesnt want to go out as adults do. we thought we would be ok to stay in the bus and requested the driver if we could stay inside the bus. but the driver was simply rude, would refuse to communicate, and completely ignored our request. i felt so helpless being in foreign country and no one we could talk to. so honestly i would never recommend this Reykjavik Excursion tour company to anyone.

Don't book with this disrespectful…

Don't book with this disrespectful company!!! We booked a tour to hunt northern lights from 22:00 hs. Pick up was a designated bus stop at 21:30. We've been there waiting while freezing for 30 minutes, until a bus from this company stopped to drop off passengers from another tour and told us our tour had been cancelled due to weather conditions. NOBODY had the kindness to let us know in advance given that it was something that they knew at least from 9pm. I will update on how easy or hard is the refund process.

I booked 5 tours with them

I booked 5 tours with them. The guides were great, genuine locals eager to share the traditions of their country. The tours are fast paced , which I liked, no wasting time in cafes, packed with gorgeous Icelandic must-see spots. There is a bit of a culture difference and I get that sometimes they might seem rude in their cultural coldness- plus the online booking on website doesn’t work hence you lose discounts and that is a big no for me. It’s the only no though. The rest was great. I will recommend them to everyone that visits Iceland. You guys please improve the online booking.

Date of experience : December 09, 2022

I waited by the BSI Terminal - which was stated in the booking, that was the only information that I got - apparently I was on the wrong side of the terminal and the bus left without me. When I called them they said I was on the wrong side - but it did not say in the booking which side I was supposed to stay on so how should i know?! I asked why they did not call since I was there on time and I've could have just walked around the building and they just said that they don't do it.. Really sad - not offering money back..

I cannot even begin to say how amazing these guys are. i am currently in contact with Sophie and have been a nightmare customer with regards to changing my bookings etc, she has been fast at responding and nothing but helpful! i cant wait to get there now and begin my tours, if they are anything like the customer service i am in for a treat! thank you!!

The buses are not clearly marked

The buses are not clearly marked, and when they are, the bus may be marked incorrectly. I missed a bus because there was a flyer in the window with one destination, but it was not the only destination. RE refused to refund. This company has no competition at all for tourists and needs to be accountable for their errors. I was blamed for not asking the driver. Completely ruined my day.

But because nature can be a huge pain in the ass, you might miss the lights altogether. What’s nice about this tour is that if you do miss the lights, you can book another tour for free.

Here’s another southern tour for your itinerary. This one is full of glaciers and boats. You should definitely choose the optional boat trip part of the tour that will take you up close and personal to the icebergs you’ve only previously seen on TV.

langjokull glacier iceland tour

In addition, you’ll walk behind a waterfall, visit a black sand beach, and stop at the southernmost point of Iceland, the village Vik, for dinner. A Reykjavik day trip you won’t want to miss.

Put on all your clothes (for warmth) and board an old wooden boat! Then take an hour-long tour off the Old Harbor Bay from Reykjavik to bird watch.

Puffins on cliff on day tours from Reykjavik

Your captain will navigate these icy waters to get you out to two different islands, turn off his engine, and let you take it all in. Witness the North Atlantic puffin in its natural habitat.

This all day trip from Reykjavik is all about taking your time. You will spend the entirety of your day, from sun up to sun down traversing across this small region of Iceland.

Hellnar

The villages you visit will give you a taste of Icelandic life, the dormant volcano and gorges will be a shock to your sense, and the seal watching is just adorable.

Take a few hours on the Andrea, the largest whale watching ship in Iceland, and head out into the Atlantic.

Whale watching day tours from Reykjavik

Be sure you take this Iceland tour from Reykjavik during the summer months, April to September, so you can actually catch sight of whales, dolphins, and porpoises breaking through the surface of the ocean alongside your ship.

There are no guarantees you’ll see any of these sea giants during off season.

Be sure to wear some warm clothes and comfy walking shoes on this adventurous day trip from Reykjavik, which allows you to get up close and personal with some of the best landscapes in the south of Iceland.

Katla Ice Cave day trips from Reykjavik

You’ll be driven by a Super Jeep through magical scenery before arriving at Myrdalsjokull Glacier. After strapping on the provided crampons, you’ll be hiking right across the countryside to the next stop—Kötlujökull Glacier.

You’ll finish by exploring the Katla Ice Cave, a spectacular natural blue and black ice formation.

So… we talked about volcanos, and we talked about hot springs, but this Reykjavik day tour has both! Of all of the day tours from Reykjavik, this one is clearly the winner for adrenaline junkies.

Iceland Landmannalaugar torrent

Get your heart racing as you hike through the southern Highland of Fjallabak, and after witnessing sights you won’t see anywhere else, sights that even pictures cannot accurately capture, you get to rest in a hot spring to relax your tired muscles.

Um, yes please and thank you.

Hiking’s in your blood, huh?

Well strap on your crampons and hike across the ice on this Reykjavik day tour .

Hikers on Vatnajokull Glacier day tours from Reykjavik

For three hours you’ll check out the deep crevices along the surface of the ice. You’ll also get a photo op worthy view of one of Europe’s largest glaciers at Vatnajokull.

Your guide will explain all about the region, what keeps it all together, and what keeps you safe in this arctic ice land.

Once it’s complete, you’ll be sorry this day tour from Reykjavik only lasted 10 hours. You’ll head straight to the Langjokull glacier, where you’ll pick up your snowmobile.

Langjokull glacier ice cave Iceland

Spend the day gliding over the pristine white expanse of the glacier – the second largest in Iceland. Top engineers have figured out a way to bore into this glacier and produce a crystal cavern that allows us to gawk at this mountain of ice from inside crystalline blue walls.

After all that activity, you’ll have the chance to soothe your tired muscles with a trip to Fludir – home to Iceland’s famous Secret Lagoon.

So remember we talked about the wonderful Reykjavik day trip where you get to view the spot where the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates collide? Well if witnessing it is wonderful, what is swimming through it?

Magical? Yes. Yes, it’s magical.

Snorkelers entering water at Silfra Rift day tours from Reykjavik

And this tour will let you do just that: don a snorkel and swim into the fissure between these two tectonic plates. Talk about a bucket list experience.

There are just some places that cannot be explored in a car or even on a bike. For these special places, we have horses.

icelandic horses

You will be picked up from your hotel and driven just 10 minutes outside of Reykjavik to the Ishestar stables where you’ll find beautiful, friendly horses known as tolt , who will take you out to trot through lava fields surrounded by green hills.

This Reykjavik day trip is not only otherworldly; it feels as if you’ve gone back in time as well.

So now that you’ve traveled through lava fields, it’s time to travel under lava fields .

“What?” You ask. Yep, you can drop down into the cracks and crevasses of the Raufarhólshellir tunnel, situated just below the lava fields.

Raufarholshellir Lava Tunnel day tours from Reykjavik

What may at first seem dark and spooky is actually one of the most visually stimulating experiences you can have, not just on a Reykjavik day tour, but in this lifetime.

You’ve been in lava fields, you’ve witnessed a giant volcano by now, and you’re feeling pretty fearless. That means it’s time to send you dropping into a volcano .

The Thrihnukagigur volcano is dormant, which means it is highly unlikely to erupt.

Inside Thrihnukagigur Volcano day tours from Reykjavik

You can spend up to an hour in the volcano, but don’t worry, if it gets too hot, you can always ask to leave early.

But honestly, when else in your life will you be able to say you were inside of a volcano? At the end of the day, you’ll be served a great dinner.

One of the best things about booking an organised day trip is that you can see multiple in attractions in one day, and this day tour takes in the best of the western part of Iceland.

Viewing platform at Deildartunguhver geothermal spring day tours from Reykjavik

You’ll start with a trip to the scenic Glanni waterfall, before heading to the Deildartunguhver Geothermal Area – the highest flow hot springs in Europe!

Waterfalls lovers will be impressed by Hraunfossar, which is not one but a whole series of cascades, spread out over about 900 metres. There’s also another waterfall, Barnafoss right nearby so you’ll definitely get your fix.

Walkway in Viegelmir Lava Tube Cave day trips from Reykjavik

The highlight however is the Vidgelmir lava cave, a long underground stretch filled with colorful and strange rock formations.

As a professional nomad who prefers to avoid the major crowds and obvious tourist attractions, I have to say, the Blue Lagoon is pretty damn worth it.

iceland itinerary blue lagoon

It is stunningly gorgeous with its branching out streams and it’s opalescent opaque waters. This Reykjavik day tour will not only take you to the Blue Lagoon, but you’ll also get a tour of the Golden Circle while you’re out. So this is a great combo choice to make the most of your time.

Are you eventually exploring beyond Reykjavik? Will you want to head to the far east? Or perhaps to the less discovered northwest? One of the best ways to discover Iceland is to road trip it yourself!

Here are all the tips you’ll need to road trip and campervan Iceland and you’ll need to know what to pack as well. If you’re looking for some of the best deals on rental cars or campervans, this is place to look .

I hope this helped you choose which day tours from Reykjavik are the most worth it for your trip!
