Everything you need to know about Miley Cyrus’ Bangerz tour

Profile picture of Noelle Faulkner

A month into her Bangerz tour, Miley Cyrus continues to shock and awe audiences all over North America, riding flying hot dogs, climbing on cars, makin’ it rain, and twerking alongside twisted fluffy animals.

Love her or hate her, Cyrus is the very definition of an icon in the making – she’s daring, creative, fearless, artistic, and, as proven so far, a trendmaker. Plus, she’s actually an incredibly talented singer. While not everyone may get her vision, which is fine, it’s engaging to say the least. And what’s pop music if there’s no entertainment factor?

So while we look on via our Instagram feeds and pray for an Australian tour announcement, here’s everything you need to know about the crotch grabbing, money throwing, sexed-up show that brings all her best qualities to a head. #BANGERZ

She has some pretty swag costume designers on board Not only did Miley Cyrus buy up some Bob Mackie (the king of sparkles, most famous for his designs worn by Liberace and Cher) but she also enlisted Roberto Cavalli, Marc Jacobs, Jeremy Scott and The Blondes for her costumes.

Miley collaborated with Ren & Stimpy creator John K In an actual genius collaboration idea, Miley entered 90s nostalgia-brilliance and called on iconic madcap animator, purveyor of grotesque toilet humour and the man behind Ren and Stimpy, John K, to create a series of crass animated caricatures for the visuals on her Bangerz tour. Check out more John K x Miley here.

Official merch included plush 24-karat cigarette papers Aside from nail transfers, underwear and a “Marry Me Miley” t-shirt, the tour merch stand also offered official BANGERZ packets of bling 24-karat gold cigarette papers that cost a neat $40 a pop. Interestingly, the fine print on the rollies states “Not for use with tobacco, only legal smoking herbs.” Which leads us to our next point…

Miley flaunts her herbal vices. At one point in the night Miley, er, thrusted, against a dancer dressed as a giant joint while her other dancers pranced around dressed as cigarette lighters. She also wasn’t very subtle when she spanked herself atop a gold car, rolled in cash and wore a cannabis leaf print leotard and dollar sign diamante boots.

There was a tongue slide Poking fun at herself (and making a clear brand statement) Miley made her entrance through a giant tongue slide.

And celebrity appearances. Sort of. At one point Miley performed a “tribute” to Monica Lewinsky with a dancer dressed as a bobbleheaded Bill Clinton and another time dancers rocked Britney Spears masks. In LA Wayne Coyne from the Flaming Lips jumped up to do a duet and Katy Perry was front row, so that counts.

Arguably the biggest star of the show: Amazon Ashley Amazon Ashley is a 6-foot 7-inch burlesque star from Los Angeles who claims she taught Miley how to twerk. Ashley made a cameo in that VMA performance and also her We Can’t Stop video. She makes several appearances on stage, one of which involves butt slapping, natch.

She sings all her own songs. Live. So. There.

Miley Cyrus' 'Bangerz' Tour: 8 Things to Expect

After Miley Cyrus dominated 2013’s headlines with shocking awards show moments on international stages — twerking with teddy bears in Brooklyn, smoking a joint in Amsterdam and singing with space kittens in Los Angeles — the possibilities are unlimited for what the singer will do on her upcoming Bangerz tour.

Here are 8 things to expect from Cyrus’ North American Bangerz tour, which  kicks off Feb. 14 in Vancouver, BC:

Trending on Billboard

1. Feast your eyes on a massive screen.  “That’s something I’ve actually had to fight for a little bit,” she said, most inspired by the visuals on Madonna’stours. “It isn’t the easiest thing to travel with in the space that we’re using, and in some of the cities, my screen is actually too large… each city is going to be the biggest that it can be, and the best that their arena will allow us to have. Everything will always feel big… some of the stuff we’re doing is so dope.” And rather than wowing with onstage stunts, Cyrus will only enter and exit on a spectacular prop, focusing on singing entirely live in between.

2. Look out for more of her four-legged friends.  “Our whole tour is literally based on animals!” she said, noting that much of the content is especially sketched by Ren &Stimpy creator John Kricfalusi, including “imaginative animals he’s made on his own.” She recalled that the two recently became close over dinner, when he sketched the starstruck singer for two hours.

3. Expect more than confetti to fall from the sky.  “I’m giving lots of junk away,” she teased, rather than offering a wide selection of tour merchandise. “This is my mom’s worst nightmare, because I always hoard things from when I go to concerts… all the kids always want to keep the confetti, but I want to give them real things to collect.”

4. Self-parodies will make appearances.  “I don’t have a hard time making fun of myself, so the whole thing is making the way people perceive me and doing that even more, be the character myself,” she said of the 2013 throwbacks present in the set list. “That’swhat I think I’ve been representing, more than anything, in the past year. Being fun and carefree, and that’s really what the show represents.” She did confirm, “we’re definitely bringing some kitties.”

5. Less is still more for tour costumes.  Each designer was given a different section to outfit Cyrus for, so look out for looks from Marc Jacobs, The Blonds, and Jeremy Scott as well as archive pieces from Bob Mackie. “Clothes for me, or lack thereof, say a lot,” she joked of her traveling costume closet.

6. The concert has no time limit.  Though the show, directed by Diane Martel, has a set list that spans 90-minutes, Cyrus made sure to preserve the acoustic section of her previous tours. This part of the concert will be comprised of acoustic renditions of her hits as well as covers, and “can go for as long as I want,” depending on the city and the audience’s energy. Still she noted that most of her set list will root from her most recent album, with her previous hits only barely sprinkled in.

7. Special guests are guaranteed.  “I have friends that worked on my album in all of these cities, so anytime I’m in the same city, I’m definitely gonna drag everybody out,” she said of Future, Mike Wills Made It and other Bangerz collaborators.

8. Get ready for girl power.  Opening acts  Sky Ferrera and Icona Pop were strategically chosen, says Cyrus. “I think it’s hard for friends that are in their 20s to be friends with other girls, there’s a lot of competition, and what I love about her is we’ve never felt that way,” she said of Ferrera, adding that “Icona, they had a really good year, and I think they’re a band that people can look out to be rising even more.” She noted that she sees herself as a feminist and likes to fill her work environments with as many women as possible.

Miley cyrus previews 'bangerz' tour merchandise on instagram [photos].

Miley Cyrus' long-anticipated Bangerz  Tour is only 12 days away, and the "Adore You" singer is in hardcore preparation mode. Not only is she in studios, rehearsing her dance moves and vocals for the tour, but Cyrus is also getting her Smilers psyched for a big money maker... tour merchandise. Today (Feb. 2), she showed off two of what are sure to be many items on her official Instagram page.

So, what can fans expect from the Bangerz  Tour? Some pretty scandalous items, but of course! The first Instagram pic revealed some Bangerz  tighty whities, high waited underwear with a Rolling Stones-esque mouth on the rump and "Bangerz" on the tongue.

The second tour merch item is for only the most dedicated Miley fans... a "Marry Me Miley" shirt, featuring some of Cyrus' favorite things in crudely drawn cartoons: an "MC" smiley face, pot leaf and that infamous VMA foam finger.

(It's also nice to note that even a multi-millionare seems to use store brand mustard.)

Prices for the Miley merch have yet to be revealed, but fans may not have to pay for everything they get at the Bangerz  Tour. According to an interview from last month, Cyrus said, "I'll have things falling out of the sky that most people would sell at the merch table." So, seems like those $100 tickets may not be that bad of a deal.

Cyrus' Bangerz  Tour will kick off on Feb. 14 in Vancouver, BC.

Miley Cyrus plans to give away merchandise on ‘Bangerz’ tour

Singer adds cartoons of 'Ren & Stimpy' are her main inspiration for the tour

bangerz tour merch

Miley Cyrus is planning to give fans free merchandise on her forthcoming ‘Bangerz’ tour, adding that she wants to drop items on the heads of the audience.

She added she’s not driven by profit, and is more focused on her fans’ enjoyment. She said: “My thing has never been about me making money. “I did that when I was a kid. I made the money I needed to make and now it’s about putting money into the tour and making sure my fans get the best show, making it worth going to see.”

Each ‘Bangerz’ gig will run for at least 90 minutes with an added acoustic set that “can go on as long as I want”. Cyrus also says there will be “lots of animal costumes and crazy props”, with her main inspiration being the work of John K, creator of ‘Ren & Stimpy’, whose cartoons are “driving a lot of the tour”. The 21-year-old will also be wearing costumes designed by Marc Jacobs, Jeremy Scott and Bob Mackie.

“Everything that I do, it’s not to be different to prove a point,” Cyrus added. “It’s just being truly who you are, and what makes you feel good and feel right.” Miley Cyrus’s 38-city Bangerz tour kicks off in Vancouver on February 14, reaching London’s O2 Arena on May 6, before playing Glasgow, Manchester, Birmingham and Belfast.

8 Most Outrageous Moments of Miley Cyrus’ ‘Bangerz’ Show

By Denise Sheppard

Denise Sheppard

Last night in Vancouver, Canada, Miley Cyrus kicked off her much-hyped Bangerz world tour with both her immense talent and self-deprecation intact. In fact, if you approached the night as a drinking game centered around “famous Miley-isms” – extended tongues, strange singing cat animations, frottage and the like – well, you probably passed out long ago, never to remember the show. Cyrus delivered on the campy, the vampy and an assortment of other cheeky behaviors with a clear aim to distance herself ever further from the land of Hannah Montana. That said, looking past the “shock and awe,” Cyrus delivered fantastic vocals all evening long.

As for some of the night’s most memorable moments?

See exclusive outtakes from Miley’s racy RS cover shoot

1. She looooves gooooooollllld Available for sale next to the T-shirts and tour books was quite possibly the world’s most expensive, mass-produced rolling papers. Official Bangerz rollies were $40 a pack, which included two 24 karat sheets; the perfect gift for those who literally have money to burn.

2. Her entrance was self-mockification, magnified   When the house lights dimmed, all eyes were focused at the back of the stage where a massive 50-foot screen projected a pre-made video of Miley’s head, her eyes rolling and her mouth opening and closing, robot-style. Suddenly, out of that video “mouth” fell a massive, inflatable tongue. The actual Miley then emerged from between her own tonsils, and she took a ride to the stage floor via her pink slippery slope, while the audience screams filled the stadium.

3. Although there were multiple fabulous drag queens in the crowd, Queen Miley repeatedly won best-dressed Designers Roberto Cavalli, Jeremy Scott, the Blonds and Marc Jacobs all made outfits specifically for this tour, and Cyrus also purchased vintage Bob Mackie outfits for the occasion. It was a cavalcade of sparkling onesies, the likes of which are only otherwise seen at world championship skating competitions. And speaking of athletics. . .

Editor’s picks

4. She may have invented a new Olympic sport: giant hot dog straddling Cyrus’ last song before the encore was a raucous version of “Someone Else,” which turned the hockey arena into a giant nightclub. As the beat kicked up a notch, the singer climbed aboard a 20-foot long wiener, which was then raised high above the crowd. Her legs gripped that phallic pony as it carried her halfway across the arena and back again to the stage, to the audience’s delight.

Miley ‘Unplugged’: 10 hilarious, twerktastic observations

5. When she says she loves pot, she means it literally One of Miley’s backup dancers was dressed as a joint, which the singer repeatedly leg-humped during “We Can’t Stop,” the first of her encore numbers. And if the joint blew out, the rest of her dancers were dressed as giant lighters, just in case. “Always Do-Be Prepared” as stoner Boy Scouts say!

6. Speaking of Boy Scouts. . . When Miley surprised the crowd by showing up on the opposite side of the venue for the much-anticipated acoustic part of the set, she was dressed solely in a baggy shirt — with her own glittery picture on it – and a backwards ball cap, looking remarkably like Justin Bieber.

Trump’s White House Was ‘Awash in Speed’ — and Xanax

Brit turner, drummer for blackberry smoke, dead at 57, nikki haley reverses pledge to endorse trump if he becomes the gop nominee, oscars 2024 predictions: who will win, who should win.

7. Her taste in other people’s music is quite impressive During a pre-prepared video interlude, Cyrus was the star of a black and white Madonna-esque “Justify My Love”-style montage. It was the night’s most risqué moment; footage showed quick flashes of Miley in various states of undress and bondage while the brilliantly sexy Alt-J track “Fitzpleasure” provided the musical accompaniment. During this aforementioned acoustic set – a section within which she plans to perform a wide variety of cover tunes – Cyrus sang a slowed-down version of Outkast’s “Hey Ya!” as well as an inspired cover of her godmother(!) Dolly Parton’s tune “Jolene.” It was the point in the evening where she appeared to be the most organically inspired and seemed to be having the most fun.

8. Perhaps the evening’s most shocking element of all. . . was the fact that there really wasn’t anything jaw-droppingly shocking about the entire night. Cyrus had said in interviews leading up to this tour that she wanted people to go to the show and take her seriously as a vocalist, and it appears that she meant it. Without question, she proved that talent beyond any doubt: unlike many stadium shows, there was no vocal “doubling” (singing along to a track of oneself), and she was only mildly supported by her background vocalists. In fact, Miley’s music was front and center for much of the night, and from beginning to end – roughly 100 minutes long – she nailed her vocals throughout the entertaining evening. With barely a twerk to be found, the singer’s intended emphasis on her music seems legit; her approach may very well shift some of the attention back on her talents, and away from her infamous tongue.

Miley's "Bangerz" Tour Will Save the Young Women of America

Miley Cyrus' "Bangerz" tour shows young women that it's okay to be brazen and audacious.

If you still believe Miley Cyrus is just a rebel without a cause, then you’re not paying enough attention.

I’m reading this book right now, Please Kill Me: The Uncensored Oral History of Punk . It’s 446 pages of testimony from the people who engineered the movement that redefined rock, and in between the accounts of drug binges and depraved sex, they talk about music. After seeing the Bangerz tour, this quote from Patti Smith won’t leave my brain:

{ "id": 135015411 } “Physical presentation in performing is more important than what you’re saying. If your quality of intellect is high, and your love of the audience is evident, and you have a strong physical presence, you can get away with anything.”

Last night, at the Izod Center in New Jersey, Miley Cyrus got away with everything.

Before even setting foot in the arena, the parking lot was already affirmation of Miley’s enormous influence on youth culture. After reading enough thinkpieces where adults argue about the credibility of her act, one almost forgets that her core fan base is teenage girls—but they were out in droves, most of them emulating their idol to a tee.

bangerz tour merch

The situation was initially alarming, and briefly uncomfortable. You’d see a pack of girls not even old enough for driver’s permits show up in an SUV chauffeured by someone’s mother and hop out with lipstick, cut-off shorts, and bare midriffs. I never lost sight of the fact that I was one of the oldest and blackest people at the concert, but I did change my tune on the appropriateness of the attendees’ attire. Conservative media wants you to believe that Miley’s a bad influence because she’s comfortable with her body and sings about MDMA, but as a teen, I was influenced by male artists who said and did much worse and it was rarely questioned.

If anything, Miley Cyrus is liberating. She’s a young woman encouraging girls to own their sexuality (as opposed to the traditional role of being reactive to male sexual development), and that’s cool. Sometimes it’s contrived when dudes are super feminist, and I’m not trying to be that as much as I’m just a fan of progress. Before a single song was played, I saw progress in the audience last night. While scouring the concessions for beer (this was clearly not the type of show where I’d find someone in my row rolling a blunt like I had at Kid Cudi weeks prior), I asked one mom, Kathy Trela, for her take on the entire spectacle:

“I’m totally okay with it. It’s part of growing. My kids danced since they were two. It’s about performing and controlling the audience at the age that she’s at, and if you don’t appreciate art then you won’t appreciate her. I’m an ‘80s girl, so to me she’s our Madonna of the new era. My daughters know it’s a performance and this is not how you conduct yourself on the street. It’s part of being an artist and it individualizes everybody.”
{ "id": 135015414 } She’s a young woman encouraging girls to own their sexuality (as opposed to the traditional role of being reactive to male sexual development), and that’s cool

I’ve seen a lot of superstars perform, and the crowd always goes crazy when the artist hits the stage, but it’s usually an older, more gender diverse crowd that cheers with a “happy to be here” excitement. There was something uniquely compelling about watching a 21-year-old woman play to a crowd of women who idolize her. There you had a woman who’s been shamed and scapegoated by so many facing a packed stadium of admirers, and she repeatedly expressed gratitude for their support. That’s where the whole Patti Smith “your love of the audience is evident” thing comes in, because then it’s more than a show; it’s a personal connection where boundaries are broken and vulnerabilities are on display, and you can get away with anything.

In Miley’s case, she bounced her ass on a green hooptie. She grabbed her crotch while surrounded by dwarfs and exclusively black dancers. She cried over the death of her dog. She encouraged “two fucking hot girls” to make out with each other during “Adore You.” She ranted about how Bob Dylan and The Flaming Lips inspire her. She spit water on the crowd. Marijuana and promethazine/codeine imagery decorated her stage. None of that would produce a scandal here. This was an environment where Miley could let her guard down and she let us know that, saying, “I’ve been told I’m a little sick and twisted, but somehow this makes me feel better.”

It wasn’t just spectacle, though. Miley Cyrus has hits, and from an objective standpoint, she can really fucking sing. This wasn’t your bubblegum pop, lip-synching extravaganza of yore. Sure, she soared through the air on a huge, aggressively phallic hot dog, but she also belted through those octaves on “Do My Thang” with an impressive degree of professionalism. It was funny, then, to run into this bro who wasn’t sold on Miley’s talents—apparently he’d been subjected to the concert by force—and was being extremely vocal about it in the bathroom.

In a desperate attempt to bond with the boys, this guy at the urinal starts talking, apropos of nothing, to everyone in the vicinity: “I wish it was football season. I wish I was pissing at MetLife stadium. How many of you are here because of your fucking girlfriends?”

And it was like, I get what you’re doing. You feel the need to assert your masculinity in this setting because the performer was on Disney and there are mostly girls and flamboyant gay dudes in attendance and you can’t handle it. But no one cares; grow the fuck up. It was just so lame and basic to me. It’s these dudes in their backwards frat caps and boot-cut jeans who reinforce the paranoia and patriarchy that facilitates the harassment of a woman like Miley Cyrus. If you’re going to do random bathroom interactions, be like the guy at that Cudi concert I was talking about who was in there raving about “Internal Bleeding” to anyone who’d listen. Keep it positive.

Back in my seat, it was all positive. Watching thousands of people lose their shit to “We Can’t Stop” and “Wrecking Ball” and “Party in the USA” reminds you that those songs are massive, important anthems. They’re cultural touchstones. They’re the songs that we’ll be telling kids about the same way some girl’s dad talked to me about seeing Bruce Springsteen 30 years ago. I appreciated how so many parents at the show seemed to understand this, because the way things are framed, they’re supposed to be Miley’s biggest opponents. But no. On the way out, I caught up with another mom, 42-year-old Nancy Page, and she had this to say:

“I get it. I love it. She’s breaking away from Hannah Montana and being who she was meant to be, not who someone’s making her out to be. She feels like expressing herself. It’s the job we do at home. My daughter knows that when Miley’s rolling around on the bed and touching herself that it’s inappropriate and just for entertainment, but I still love it. Kids know those words are bad and it’s just for fun. You know what’s right.”

I want women to be brazen and audacious because that passive, subservient shit that civilization has been trying to cast on them for centuries is ancient and boring. Build an empire, curse some motherfuckers out, and piss off everyone in the proximity in the process. Miley Cyrus has done it expertly and I enjoyed her show, because I know that after watching her do whatever she wants on the Bangerz tour, at least a few thousand girls will stop letting boys have all the fun and go do the same.

bangerz tour merch

If you’ve read any of the headlines and/or seen the photos (and really, how could you miss them?!), you already know that the ever-controversial, tongue-waggin’ Miss Miley Cyrus is out on the road on her Bangerz Tour . (Our own Mike Wass was live on the scene for opening night — make sure to check out his review!)

Miss Miley’s been stirring up all sorts of trouble on the Bangerz Tour in her usual fashion (check out all the upcoming tour dates ), from riding hot dogs to questionable simulated something-or-others on stage. But most recently, she was caught lip-lockin’ with a member of the crowd — the “I Kissed A Girl” songstress herself, Katy Perry .

Since we can’t stop and we won’t stop loving Miley’s insane Bangerz Tour antics, we decided — we’re giving away two amazing merch prize packs! And to win, all you’ve got to do is pucker up and give Miley a smooch.

2 Bangerz Tour merch packs, which include:

• 1 black Bangerz T-shirt • 1 white Bangerz T-shirt • 1 tote bag • 1 tongue sticker • 1 inflatable banana • 1 metal foam finger key chain

Just smooch Miley!

1.) Follow us on Twitter and Facebook if you aren’t already. 2.) Submit a photo of you giving Miss Cyrus a smooch — a poster, your phone screen, the TV, whatever (OR MAYBE YOU ACTUALLY KISSED HER?!) — by using the hashtag #MileySmooch on Instagram or Twitter . Don’t have ’em? Don’t worry: You can also send the photo to us directly at [email protected] with the subject line “MILEY SMOOCH.”

Two lucky winners will be selected and notified via email on Tuesday, March 4. The best of the bunch will be displayed right here! And if you haven’t yet, check out all the dates to catch Miley out on tour. Good luck!

"The one-time Disney Channel child star is twerking on her TV alter-ego's grave with a completely over-the-top, nearly two-hour show," writes  The Hollywood Reporter 's  Craig Rosen in a review of the Bangerz tour .

The Bangerz tour is an R-rated venture into a world of pot, freaks and orgies — sometimes all together.

‘I’m a Southern belle, crazier than hell.’

Writes THR 's  Craig Rosen : The "hip-hop/country mix was prominent in 'Do My Thang,' which featured one of her band members on banjo and Cyrus proudly displaying her roots, singing, 'I'm a Southern belle, crazier than hell.'"

Bryan Bedder

From a gigantic hot dog to patriotic "Party in the U.S.A." outfits, Miley Cyrus has for weeks been teasing what to expect from her Bangerz Tour. But that was nothing compared to the real thing.

On Valentine's Day, Miley finally hit Vancouver for the kickoff, and we can only say you probably don't want your mom or dad as a plus one. We've got some of the highlights of Cyrus' set pieces, props and, yes, that enormous (and we hope inedible) ballpark frank.

Check out a full list of Miley's Bangerz Tour dates if you haven't bought your tickets yet.

Parental Advisory Ahead

Miley made sure to set the tone right away, gyrating on a car in front of a very explicit "Parental Advisory" CD sticker label.

Props Are Larger Than Life

While Miley already gave a glimpse on her Instagram of the suspended hot dog prop, for the concert, the singer also slid down a tongue slide, which was fittingly attached to a projection of her own face.

Miley Sells Herself

Like any savvy pop star, Miley is never shy about self-promoting. She rocked out in an oversize T-shirt that features her signature tongue pose and later advertised some other tour merch on her Instagram.

Bangerz : Unplugged

Miley carried over the cowboy get-up from her "MTV Unplugged" set, bedazzled hat, grill and all, y'all.

Gettin' That Paper

Hey, everyone's gotta get that paper right? Although upon further inspection, it looks like the money Miley rolled around in were not actually real dolla dolla bills.
