Places to visit in and around Delhi in one day by private car from Gurgaon

Unlock the secrets of Delhi’s splendor in just one day, setting forth from Gurgaon. Our journey takes you on a whirlwind adventure through the capital city, where you’ll be swept away by the grandeur of India Gate, the serenity of Lotus Temple, and the profound history of Qutub Minar.

Let the vibrant tapestry of Delhi’s culture and the stories whispered by the Red Fort’s ancient walls ignite your wanderlust on this unforgettable odyssey from Gurgaon to the heart of India’s heritage. Here is the list of best places to visit in one day in New Delhi when starting your journey from Gurgaon:

1. Qutub Minar

The first sightseeing place in our One Day Gurgaon to Delhi Trip by private car is the Qutub Minar. It is the tallest Minaret in Delhi and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is 73 metres in height and has a conical shape. The radius at the base is 7.16 metres and decreases to 1.37 metres at the peak.

This heritage site is constructed using red sandstone and marble. There are Kufic inscriptions on them, most of which praise Mohammed Ghori. A notable feature is a circular staircase within the minaret which has over 379 steps which leads to the top.

The minaret has five storeys and its architecture seems different and distinct from the other floors. This is because the minaret was constructed by three different rulers of the Delhi Sultanate.

While its base was constructed by Qutub-ud-Din Aibak, it was his successor and son-in-law, Iltutmish who further added three storeys to the minaret. The finishing of the minaret and the last two storeys were added by Firoz Shah Tuglak.

  • Things To Do: If you are somebody who enjoys photography, do take your cameras out. We will visit Qutub Minar early in the morning when the skies are clear which would be a photographer’s delight.
  • Timings: Open on all days of the week from Sunrise to sunset
  • Recommended Duration: 45 Minutes
  • Entry Fee: Rs 10 for Indians and Rs 250 for foreigners

2. Lotus Temple

The Lotus temple is dedicated to the community of Bahá’í Faith. Its principal is governed by the principle of oneness of God and religion. It stresses on how each religion has its worth and it advocates its unification.

As such, it invites all kinds of people from all religions, caste, creed, gender, age, socio-economic background. It is one of the most preferred places to visit on our 1 day trip to Delhi from Gurugram.

As the name suggests, the temple is constructed in the shape of a lotus and it has nine sides, each side is an entry point to the temple. A total of 23 marble petals are constructed to give it the shape of a lotus. The praying hall is huge and can host approximately 2500 people at once. The architectural and religious significance makes it one of the most visited buildings in the world.

3. Humayun’s Tomb

Next attraction on our Delhi city tour from Gurgaon is Humayun’s Tomb. It is the tomb of Mughal Emperor Humayun which houses his mortal remains. This is where he was taking the stairs of his library and fell that led to his demise.

Humayun’s tomb is an architectural marvel that’s constructed using Red Sand Stone and has white and black marble borders. It is 47 m in height and 91 m in width. Even though the primary architectural style is Mughal, it also draws inspiration from the Persian style considering his wife and the architect of the monument were both Persian.

The same complex also houses the tomb of Isa Khan Niyazi, Afsarwala and has the burials of many members and nobles of the Mughal Dynasty. This mausoleum is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is a must-visit during your day trip to Delhi from Gurgaon.

4. Safdarjung Tomb

Popularly known as the look-alike of Humayun’s Tomb is the Safdarjung Tomb that was constructed in 1754. It is also constructed using red sandstone and its dome is white in colour. It is surrounded by large gardens on all sides which makes it a preferred monument to visit and bask under the sun.

Unlike the other monuments in Delhi that have been constructed for Kings, this one had been built for a wazir of the Mughal Empire, named Safdarjung.

There is a central square chamber with eight divisions and the centre has a cenotaph that has the graves of Safdarjung and his wife. Surrounding the main chamber are four marble minarets at the corners.

There is a lengthy water canal which adds to the aesthetics of the complex.

Next in our Delhi itinerary is visiting the Rashtrapati Bhawan which is the official residence of the presiding president of India. Built on the Rasina Hill, it was known as the Viceroy’s House during the British era which housed the viceroys during that time.

It is spread over 320 acres and is spread over 4 storeys and houses 340 rooms. Apart from this, there are reception halls, guest rooms and offices.

The entire Bhawan is divided into three circuits which can be visited by tourists. The Main Building & Central Lawn compromise of Circuit 1, The Rashtrapati Bhavan Museum Complex compromise of Circuit 2 and The Mughal & Other Gardens compromise of Circuit 3.

Do note that the Mughal gardens are only open for public viewing during Udyanotsav which is held during the months of February to March every year.

  • Must See: One must notice the intricate style of architecture which is decorated with heavy motifs.

6. India Gate, Delhi

India Gate is a war memorial dedicated to all the soldiers who gave their lives fighting for our country. It is surrounded by vast areas of gardens and a straight road known as Rajpath from here leads straight to the Rashtrapati Bhawan.

This 138 feet tall structure is made with red sandstone and has a Triumphal Arch like architecture. It also strikes a close resemblance to the Gateway of India located in Mumbai.

On its pillars, the names of various soldiers are inscribed which was done as a tribute to their contribution to the nation. Beneath the arch, there is a glass frame within which a flame is permanently lit.

There is also a black marble stand known as the “Amar Jawan Jyoti” which was constructed post the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971 as a tribute to all the members of the Indian army who died in the war.

  • Things To Do: Enjoy a picnic in the lawns of the garden. One can even indulge in street food, tea, coffee and ice-cream here.
  • Timings: Open all day.

7. Gurudwara Bangla Sahib, Delhi

The last recommended place to visit in our One Day Gurgaon to Delhi Trip by private cab is Gurudwara Bangla Sahib, a popular place of worship for the Sikhs. It was earlier a bungalow owned by Raja Jai Sing known as Jaisinghpura Palace who later converted it into a Gurudwara.

It is dedicated to Guru Harkishan Sahib, the eighth Sikh guru and most Delhites and even tourists prefer visiting it for its large temple complex made using golden domes, white marble floors and the tranquil Sarovar waters.

What is interesting to note is that most devotees volunteer their service which helps manage & maintain this place of worship.

  • Things To Do: There is a free langar service where one can enjoy a simple meal compromising of rice, roti, dal and sabzi.
