Kensington Tours Review (My HONEST Experience)

I recently came across Kensington Tours, a company that specializes in creating customized, private-guided trips. I was impressed by their website, and decided to take a trip through them.

Kensington Tours offers a wide range of trips, including group and small group tours. They cater to various interests and preferences which makes them an attractive option for diverse groups of travelers. In particular, I was impressed to find out that first-time customers were pleased with their experiences, praising the logistics, planning, and knowledgeable local guides provided by Kensington Tours.

In this article, I will be telling you my opinion of this tour-booking company, based on my experiences of travelling with them.

Overview of Kensington Tours

Kensington Tours Reviews

Kensington Tours can be worth your money if you select the correct packages. However, some people have faced problems, so be careful when booking.

This company also provides experienced guides who will take you through all the sightseeing places and accompany you on tour. They are mainly used for traveling to foreign countries where people need to learn more about the local scene. The guides will know the local language and can interact with the locals on your behalf.

You won’t have to worry about anything other than your flights to reach your destination.

Services Offered

During my research about Kensington Tours, I discovered that they provide customized itineraries and personalized travel experiences. A wonderful woman by the name of Amanda Jex was my destination lead, and she was very accommodating to the last-minute changes we made to the itineraries.

Kensington Tours made our multi-country trips stress-free with efficient logistical services, such as on-time drivers, clear signage, and convenient train tickets.

Kensington Tours delivered a great bespoke European vacation for my visit to Italy and Switzerland. The company listened carefully to my family’s desires and tailored the itinerary accordingly.

Destinations Covered

Kensington Tours offers a variety of trips to different parts of the world. Some of the popular destinations I found include:

  • Ultimate Ireland (Small Groups):  This 13-day group tour costs $7,775 and covers iconic Irish attractions.
  • Northern Lights Escape:  A 6-day small group tour priced at $2,340, with a focus on chasing the mesmerizing aurora borealis.
  • Iceland Discovery:  This 8-day small group tour, costing $3,950, takes travelers to the stunning landscapes of Iceland.
  • Everest Base Camp Trek:  An adventurous small group tour that brings participants on a trek to the base camp of Mount Everest.

Pros and Cons of Kensington Tours

Kensington Tours gives exceptional service, tailored itineraries, and knowledgeable local travel guides. The company offers a wide range of  interesting trips  catering to diverse interests and preferences, such as small group tours in Ireland, Northern Lights escapes, and Everest Base Camp treks. Their flexibility and customization options make them appealing to travelers looking for unique or personalized experiences.

In addition to the impressive variety of tours, I was also happy with the accommodations, transportation, and overall logistics provided by Kensington Tours. Their level of organization and attention to detail contributed to a smooth and stress-free travel experience.

However, there have been instances where some travelers had  less than satisfactory experiences  with Kensington Tours. It’s important to note that discrepancies in service quality or tour expectations can happen with any tour operator and do not necessarily reflect the overall offerings of the company.

My main gripe with them is that they charge a very high cancellation fee ($350 per person). This makes it difficult to book a trip with them if you are not sure about when exactly you will be departing.

Nonetheless, potential issues to be aware of include inadequate accommodations or miscommunication in terms of expectations and itineraries . To avoid disappointment, I recommend doing thorough research on the specific tour you are interested in and reading multiple reviews to gather a well-rounded understanding of what to expect.

Can You Cancel Tours On Kensington Tours?

All cancellations of confirmed reservations on Kensington Tours will face a penalty of $350 per person. You will receive a full refund only if you cancel the tour 90 days before departure.

If you cancel a booked tour 60-89 days before departure, the penalty paid will be 30% of the booking price. Any canceled trip 30-59 days before the tour will face a loss of 50% of the program price.

Any tour cancellation about 29 days before departure won’t qualify for a refund. The cancellation fees will be 100% of the program price.

How To Get Refunds From Kensington Tours?

You need to contact customer support to get a refund from Kensington Tours. You have the option to call them or send them an email on their registered email ID.

They levy heavy cancellation charges even if you cancel a month in advance. They won’t be responsible for the cancellation fees imposed by the airlines and other associated services.

Is It Better To Trave With A Tour Company Or On Your Own?

It is better to go with a tour company if you are traveling to a different country. However, arranging the trip yourself is better when traveling within your own country.

When visiting foreign countries, you will face many cultural and language barriers. These issues can cause trouble in planning your perfect trip.

Additionally, you may miss out on good tourist spots in foreign countries. This will not happen on guided tours since they know them all.

However, if you are familiar with the country and its language, you can travel alone. It will be a fun experience if you have the time to research properly.

All in all, just adopt this rule of thumb 👉 Domestic Travel – Travel on your own; International Travel – Travel with a tour company.

Final Remarks

In this article, I tried to give you an honest depiction of what traveling with Kensington Tours might look like.

I would suggest you try Kensington Tours if you have the budget. Just be sure to be clear in your communications and what you expect from the trip, especially the itineraries.

We've done 3 extensive trips with Kensington Tours. Each one was expertly planned incorporating our input on the destinations and detailed itineraries. We have opted to travel "hosted," with KT, meaning they set up and book all itineraries and travel arrangements. Their hosts meet us at the airport when we arrive, and transport us to our hotel. Each time we change locations (new city, new hotel) they provide transport to the train station and make sure we're on the right train and car. When we arrive they transport us to the new hotel. We were driven from Tokyo to Hakone, as part of an 8-hour guided tour, just us with a driver and a guide. They make all travel reservations, book hotels, set up local guides, and purchase all tickets. With KT handling all travel logistics, for us, this relieves the most stressful elements of travel. I'm recounting our recent 18-day excursion to Japan. We traveled to 6 cities, 2 or 3 nights each. Tokyo, Hakone, Takayama, Kanazawa, Kyoto, Hiroshima, Osaka. According to our plan, KT provided guided tours on about half of the days overall. Either a 4- or 8-hour excursion. The tours were guided by local experts and each guide was enjoyable and knowledgeable. The remainder of the time in each destination we were on our own. Our KT travel expert provided valuable suggestions for things to do on our own time. He also provided super advice on restaurants. Over 18 days, KT's execution of our complex travel itinerary was FLAWLESS. Perfect. Never a missed connection. Always prompt. They were equally perfect in our previous trips. The itinerary planned for us was beyond expectations. We even had a terrific cooking class in the apartment kitchen of our instructor In Kyoto. We give Kensington Tours the highest marks!!! We'll be traveling with them in the future.

Kensington Tours may rip you off. Kensington Tours is a vendor with nasty, pushy old school sales tactics and sketchy opaque pricing to get you fleeced in my opinion, read on ! Kensington Tours pre-charged my Amex Centurian card a staggering $85,985.00. for 6 nights without international airfares in one cost-opaque invoice. This consisted of a simple assembly of 9 hotel room nights in 3 locations, 6 in-country economy flights, 3 airport pickup/drop offs, a 2 day 'tour' and a 1-day expedition on a small boat. It was so bad we declined the 2nd tour day and boat trip. The full retail cost of the trip, which would include profits to Kensington Tours, is estimated at $30,140.47 versus their invoice of $ 85,985.00. That is a staggering overcharge of $54,859.43. see details below. The experience should have been amazing for this amount of money, but the cost was so egregious for the average to low quality of the tours, flights, boat, and cheap or kerb-side restaurants and food establishments I decided to assemble the full retail price for these activities by speaking directly with all the major vendors. These are mostly time-specific cost comparisons on the days we were there. Both hotel general managers informed me the costs were about the same as on the previous days for the day extensions they quoted. i.e. peak season pricing. The full retail costs I've assembled would include any tour outfits profits on the hotel, airfare and lunch as they buy wholesale. It should be a close season-specific estimate. This was verified by a call from Kensington Tours Director of Asia sales who confirmed she couldn't reveal room prices because they have contracts with the hotels for discounts over retail. Kensington Tours provided near zero value, I also didn't get the typical additional hotel $ benefits, comped amenities and prestige of direct Centurion bookings, instead the reservations showed as a lowly Kensington Tours operator booking. Kensington Tours unilaterally declares their sales brochure is a de facto contract agreement without either attaching the contract doc to my knowledge or getting a counter signature, i.e. it's not a contract and would never hold up. They attempt to hide behind 'private discount contracts' with hotels and insinuated to me costs were 3x reality The comped me back $30,000.00 because I have some leverage, it should have been $55,000.00. I'm still considering whether to file a quick suit, they'll eat at least the balance defending against me in attorney fees. I'll see if I can be bothered to do that. I probably will, to let others know to be careful and not use an outfit like this. Hopefully save folks their hard earned money. My bottom line, Kensington Tours is a disgrace run the other way. Do not use - way overpriced. I have used Kensington for trips to Greece, Portugal, and Zimbabwe in the past. I started to use them for a 15 day trip to Japan and they quoted me a price that was over ten thousand dollars then what I managed to get for myself. Incidentally, I booked higher class hotels than Kensington offered and still came in a lot cheaper. I realize that tour companies need to make a profit but I am not interested in being gouged. With internet services available (I.E. Hotels.com/tours by locals) - with a little work, individuals can put together an itinerary themselves and come out WAY cheaper.

We have used Kensington tours for three trips over the past 10 years: the Amalfi coast, southern Spain, and in October the Scotland Ireland Explorer tour. All three trips were excellent, and everything went as planned--airport pickups, tour guides, transportation between cities. We had two exceptional drivers in Scotland and Ireland. All accommodations were good to excellent. The only reason I gave 4 stars is that they're very expensive. I was able to duplicate their Portugal tour by booking it all myself for half the price, but this is not always easy or feasible. We've always been very satisfied with our Kensington tours.

My wife and I took a two week Egypt package starting 18 Sep - just before the current troubles. Moe Sami was the sales guy and he was excellent. I did not find the pricing out of line with other estimates. Sorry for the long review. - MEDI Travel appears to be the in-country agent for Egypt. The Kensington/MEDI crew were awesome. We were met EVERYWHERE and at every stop by multiple reps - At every airport arrival/departure we were escorted through as much of the immigration/security apparatus as was possible by a MEDI "fixer". - MEDI uses local, free lance tour guides. Ours were awesome with EXCELLENT English. Not surprisingly all were licensed in Egypt and 20+ years experience. We had Sally in Cairo, Ayman in Alexandria, Ali from Luxor to Aswan, and Hamad (I think) at Abu Simbel. All drivers were SUPERB. - Hotels were great. During the trip planning phase I felt like there might be better hotels available but I deferred to Moe. When you are in Giza, I just can't think of a better location than the Marriott Mena. Our room and every hotel meal faced the pyramids. The pyramids are not off in the distance, They are right in front of you. Great pool. Luxor Hilton was nice but we arrived late in the evening and departed early so did not get to enjoy it. Ritz in Cairo was also very, very nice - a four day river cruise on Sonesta St George was part of the package. SUPERB ship staff. We've never been on a river cruise. Wait until you see the Nile River cruise activity. I think it is unique. There are a huge number of cruise boats on the river and the whole scene is controlled chaos. Now that we've completed the trip, I think the river cruise was the best way for us to see the sights from Luxor to Aswan - Avoiding travel sickness. We decided that our priority was to see the sights of Egypt so we were super strict on avoiding raw foods of any type. No issues. I did buy a GRAYL water filter and it worked awesome for times when we needed water. BTW - because most of the bathrooms at tourist sites are attended, they are very clean!! - Tipping. I see comments from travelers that feel the "tipping culture" is a scam. I do not see it that way. Tipping is a big part of the Egyptian travel industry and I'm comfortable with it. The Tipping Guide in the Kensington Country Guide was OUTSTANDING. We applied a lesson learned from a previous trip. Although you can buy local currency, it is always hard to find the small bills you need for porters, bathroom attendants. USD and Euros are accepted as tips everywhere. We took a couple thousand USD (with one hundred $1 bills) for all our tipping (guides, drivers, porters, etc). Maybe we were over tippers but I don't care. Kensington/MEDI people were always with us and I gave everyone of them a tip. The service was great and we felt welcome - This tour is medium to high exertion - the summer heat had still not dissipated. Hot as anything at Abu Simbel. Climbing in the pyramids is not for the faint of heart. The recurring thing I observed at all stops was the uneven footing because the floors you'll walk on are a combination of "new' stone, and the "original" stuff from 3000 years ago and its all mixed up!! - Don't wait to go if Egypt interests you. The longer you wait, the less you'll be able to do and explore.

When they are good, they are good, but when things go poorly they do not offer assistance. First if they tell you your drivers all speak English saying hello must qualify because many of our drivers had little English skills. We had taken Italian so we were able to navigate the issues, but without it we would have been lost. Second, if they tell you that things can be changed while your on your tour be skeptical. We ask for a couple of changes and neither were actually worked on. Our drivers were normally late or canceled at the last minute making us responsible for our own transportation. The drivers had little clue where we were to meet the tour guides. We were just dropped off and had to rely on our abilities to talk to locals for directions. Lastly, if they tell you they will reimburse you for getting your own transportation when they fail just don't expect that to happen. The owe me 100€ that I doubt I'll ever see. I'd be hard pressed to use this service again. On the good side most of our guides were fantastic.

My wife and I spent a substantial amount of money with Kensington on a Japan trip. We experienced a multitude of issues on the trip. Tour guides with no structured itinerary, no vehicles when we had scheduled cars, wrong/too small cars for pick ups that couldn't fit our luggage. Extremely disappointed given that we paid a small fortune for this service. Look elsewhere.

Photo of Dave K.

While Kensington was great about holding our COVID dollars for two years, I was very disappointed when the chose to take even more aggressive profits on our revised plans. We paid too much for everything we did with them in Scotland. I'm ok with a premium for managing things but Kensington was completely inflexible when we tried to get a fair value out of our tour. They basically found decent tour guides and hotels then marked them up so aggressively, we challenged them and they refused to accommodate us. We have been to 97 countries and seven continents and this is the only tour company that I would never use again.

Photo of John B.

I have read the reviews but have still chosen to go with Kensington Tours primarily due to our assigned agent, Alistair Kiwana. We did get bids from other companies, and Kensington was very competitive. And Alistair, by far was the best we spoke to in terms of being personable and understanding travel and Africa extremely well----and so we decided to go with him and as a result Kensington. Alistair has been prompt, has thorough knowledge of Africa and has taken the time to listen to what our goals are for this trip and worked very hard to accommodate them from a planning perspective. I can't say enough about his attention to detail and his willingness to listen and his ability to plan from there. When we return, we will make sure and leave another review on the actual trip, which I am confident will be extraordinary.

Just returned from 21 day baltic state and Scandinavia. No one has contacted us to ask of our experience.Tour way to expensive for services provided.Absolutely zero personal service.Tried contacting emergency numbers given out for certain countries, phone and or text not returned. Two countries private guides could hardly speak English.Seemed we never got great hotel rooms that qualified as deluxe or superior. Our family of six spent way to much money with this untrustworthy company,Wish I had read peoples previous reviews before booking with them.We travel extensively but will never consider using Kensington tours

Meet your private driver and guide at the port and embark on an shore excursion to explore the magnificent San Telmo and La Boca, two of Buenos Aires' most beloved neighborhoods. San Telmo is without question one of the trendiest quarters of the city thanks to its cool, bohemian atmosphere and famed antique shops. Plaza Dorrego is the place to be on Sundays to find anything from antiques, memorabilia, second-hand clothes to dusty magazines during its traditional Antiques Fair. What will strike you immediately is the peculiar architecture, especially along Caminito Street, which in 1959 was declared an outdoor museum. It is the work of one of Argentina’s most famous painters and neighborhood philanthropists, Quinquela Martín. He gathered neighbors to paint the houses, made out of tin and scrap metal, in bright colors, emulating the early immigrants. The most recognizable icon, though, is La Bombonera (the Chocolate Box), right in the heart of the area and home of the Boca Juniors, the country’s largest soccer club. Amazing Egypt and Jordan trip

Dear Moe- On behalf of my entire family, I would like to thank you for the outstanding trip you arranged for us to Egypt and Jordan. Every country representative, city guide, driver and local guide was there at every destination at the right time and place - to meet us and do what was required to make our trip worry free. Most of them knew you by name and respected you based on their past experiences with you. We definitely benefited from that. The guides you set up for us were excellent. They had so much information to share, provided wonderful experiences for us to enjoy and were flexible to our needs. Thank you again Moe for your excellent arrangements. Wonderful experience with Kensington and our travel agent

Excellent preparation and choice’s recommended during our visit to New Zealand. Our travel agent was very responsive to our need, questions and made many accommodations and changes to our plans as needed. All of the recommended tours and sites were fantastic and we really enjoyed working with our travel agent. We will use Kensington tours for future trips and recommend them to our friends!

We had an amazing experience with Kensington Tours

We had an amazing experience with Kensington Tours. We gave Kensington and our advisor Cem Yalcinkaya all the places we wanted to see in Egypt and Jordan. Cem mapped everything out for us and it was so much more than we expected. Our guides, airport liaisons, tour managers and drivers were all excellent. When we wanted to add an extra trip while there, Cem took care of it. We loved Egypt and Jordan and hope to return soon with Kensington.

Awesome custom trip to Iceland

Awesome custom trip to Iceland. Courtney at Kensington was responsive to our requests for an active and packed itinerary and did not disappoint. Local guide Hannah was awesome. Snowmobiling, glacier hikes, blue lagoon, geysers, atvs, black sand beaches, city tour, etc…pack it all in…

Dear Memdown, Thank you for taking the time to write your review. We are so happy you received prompt service and a wonderful itinerary from Courtney, as well as a top notch local guide. We hope to connect with you again in the future! Sincerely, -The Team at Kensington Tours

Wonderful time in Morocco

We had a great time in Morocco. Thanks to Moe who’d been so patient with such difficult customers like us. Perfect hotel selection.

Dear Supachitra, Thank you so much for your review of your Morocco trip organized by Moe Sami. There is no customer too difficult! We hope the trip exceeded your expectations. Sincerely, -The Team at Kensington Tours

Costa Rica visit

Camila Rosa worked with me to create my Costa Rica itinerary. She was lovely to work with and incorporated my interests and preferences into the itinerary. She paid attention to the details, provided great advice and was very responsive, making an adjustment to my itinerary after the trip began that made it an even better experience for me. I had private guides and drivers throughout the visit and I can't say enough about how knowledgeable guides Guillermo in Monteverde and Royner Alvarez in Arenal are and what a pleasure it was to spend time with them. They worked very hard to ensure I saw every bird, monkey, sloth and insect possible and also took wonderful photos for me through the magnifying scope. My driver in Arenal Jonathan Segura was terrific and lovely and also drove me to my post tour destination. The tour was an excellent experience and I plan to use Kensington Tours again.

Date of experience : March 04, 2024

Dear Jane, We are so glad to read you had an excellent trip to Costa Rica, and that Camila was able to customize your experience just as we love to do at Kensington Tours. We believe iterating fast is a value to behold - and great to hear some last minute adjustments made your trip even better. Amazing to hear about your local experiences and how your guides also really added to your trip. We look forward to working with you again in the future. Thank you so much for taking the time to write your review! Sincerely, -The Team at Kensington Tours

Thank you for a memorable trip

Russel, My wife and I just returned home from our Kensington trip to SE Asia and Dubai. I wanted to let you know everything was fantastic, and we’re very happy with how everything went so smoothly. We loved the hotels/ resorts Kensington booked us into, and the guides and drivers were top notch. In addition we were overwhelmed with how smoothly Kensington representatives welcomed us at each airport we flew into and assisted us with sailing through customs and immigration of the various countries we visited. Without Kensington assistance some of the airport logistics would have been challenging, but it was a breeze with Kensington. I can’t tell you how many times our escorts got us through the airport with ease while other passengers were stuck in immigration and customs. The combination of the rooms, guides, drivers, tours, and airport assistance was more than we could have imagined, and it truly made us feel like VIP’s. This was our first tour using Kensington, and based on the results we are looking forward to using Kensington for future travel. We would heartily recommend Kensington to friends of ours for their future travel plans, and we are so glad to have found such a wonderful partner like Kensington for our future trips. Kensington was A+ for us, and the itinerary you put together for us and the experiences we encountered were truly memorable. It was a trip of a lifetime to a part of the world we had never visited before. Thank you Russel for making our travel dreams come true. If our Kensington booked Alaska trip this September matches this trip we will be ecstatic. You’ve raised the bar to a high level for all future trips. Bob

Trip of a Lifetime!

We had a wonderful tour of India this February, planned carefully and so ably by Rahul Dixit, hitting India's Golden Triangle and more: Delhi, Ranthambore, Agra, Jaipur, Varanasi, flying out of Mumbai. Getting off the airplane in Delhi after 2-days of plane trips, a smiling rep from Kensington with our name sign led us to a tram to take us to customs. The royal treatment continued. We had fantastic guides and drivers each day: Hemesh Chaturvedi in Delhi, Brijesh Joshi in Agra, Mahendra Sharma in Jaipur, Akhilesh Kumar in Varanasi, and Tombi Premlatdevi Singh in Mumbai. Excellent knowledge, and skills getting us through the cities to see the best sights. Our very nice driver "Gaggi" from the Himalayas drove us the most days: in Delhi, Ranthambore, Agra and Jaipur. The hotels were very nice: Taj Palace New Delhi, Khem Villas in the Ranthambore tiger preserve (saw 3 tigers!), Taj Hotel and Convention Center Agra where we were upgraded to a large suite (!) thanks to Nikita the lovely guest manager, Samode Haveli Jaipur, Taj Ganges Varanasi, Trident Nariman Point Mumbai. The trip of a lifetime!

Date of experience : February 01, 2024

Dear E Jones, Thank you for your wonderful review! It is so great to read you had the trip of a lifetime. Your kind words about Rahul, local staff we work with such as your drivers like Gaggi, and third party members such as Nikita, are much appreciated. We take pride in all the people we work with locally around the world. Also very cool that you saw three tigers! We can't wait to host you again in the future. Sincerely, - The Team at Kensington Tours

If I could give a zero I would

If I could give a zero I would. Very over priced, ( $500 more for airline tickets) no communication,( takes days to get an answer) no confirmation of tours. Nothing is ever their fault. We have answers back from the hotel immediately. They claim no one answers The calls. I finally had to forget Kensington and book it all myself.

Dear Claudia, Thank you for expressing your concerns in your review. Our sincere apologies go out to you for the mistakes you have found during your experience. Our sales directors are in touch with you and your Travel Agent to hopefully assist however we can. We look forward to being in touch with you when you return home, to hear more about your experience and hopefully come to a fair resolution for you. We take your feedback very seriously. Trip of a lifetime

Our trip to Vietnam, Cambodia and Thailand with Kensington was amazing. Thanks to all the planning by Dev Jai every detail was attended to. From getting through immigration at the airport, to cooling wet clothes on the vans. We never had a worry. The hotels were top notch with incredible breakfast every morning. Our guides were knowledgeable and made the history and culture come to life. We especially enjoyed Phi. We look forward to our next trip with Kensington. We were so surprised to receive a personalized gift to celebrate our anniversary. Everyone one involved in our trip were so thoughtful. Thank you Dev.

Dear Audrey, Thank you for your review of your itinerary by Dev and Kensington Tours, to Vietnam Cambodia and Thailand. We are so happy to read you never had to worry. That is one of the biggest luxuries when traveling. We hope you had a wonderful anniversary. Looking forward to being in touch for your next travel plans! All the best, -The Team at Kensington Tours

Kensington Tours 👍👍👍👍

Kensington Tours is top notch! As a travel agent, I interact with different suppliers. Few come close to the quality of Kensington. I want to make mention of Jason Peura, a Central Europe Destination Specialist. Jason created a custom itenirary of Germany from scratch.. He was very knowledgeable of local train routes and hotel’s proximity to notable landmarks. His experience and knowledge of the area was quite impressive.. I look forward to working with Jason and the entire Kensington staff again in the near future.

Date of experience : February 05, 2024

Dear Heather, Thank you for taking the time to write your kind review. We are so happy to read your accounts of Jason's expertise. We highly value our agent partners and thank you for working with us. Looking forward to working with you again soon, -The Team at Kensington Tours

I am a travel advisor and I have had…

I am a travel advisor and I have had the best experience with KT! Boy, did they have my back when 14 of my clients' flights were canceled traveling together in the summer of 2022. Does anyone remember that summer? We tag-teamed and saved the trip. I am so happy I packaged it all together. KT is a darling in the travel industry and we all speak highly of our experiences. They communicate brilliantly and if something doesn't go quite right they are there to find a solution. I'm working with someone at KT right now for a multi-gen trip and Vanja is my buddy. She's on it.. a true gem to work with.

Dear Jayne, Thank you so much for your review. We cherish our relationships with Travel Agents such as yourself. Great to hear you are working with us again. We remember the big mishap that happened in 2022, Alan Greaney who is now a sales director was your contact. We wish you all the best and thank you so much for your returning business. Sincerely, -The Team at Kensington Tours

A great trip to So. Spain & Morocco

Thank you Moe Sami for a great trip to Southern Spain and Morocco. We both enjoyed it immensely, it met or exceeded our expectations in almost every way. Our guide and drivers were professional, knowledgeable and available to us as we needed them. We especially got to know our Moroccan team (Zouhair and Issan) and developed a good rapport with them. We would recommend you and Kensington tours to anyone. The only suggestion we have is to ensure the ferry crossing from Algeciras is booked for foot passengers. Our itinerary showed the crossing to be 35 minutes, in reality it was 90 minutes and it was a cargo ferry. It was an awkward transition with luggage, stairs and no assistance in guiding us off the ferry. A small glitch, not upsetting, we would just like to assist any future travelers that you may book for the same route. We really enjoyed everything about this tour including the history (thanks to our knowledgable guides), architecture and food! Thanks again, Ron and Jill Gilmore

Dear Ron and Jill, Thank you very much for your kind review! We are happy to read about your experience with Moe and your guides in destination adding so much to your time there! We thank you so much for your feedback regarding the ferry crossing from Algeciras. It definitely sounds like an area needing improvement and we apologize for the awkward experience. Thank you again, and we look forward to working with you in the future! Sincerely, -The Team at Kensington Tours

The Egypt staff ,tour director Mohamed and guides Ramadan and Mahmoud as well as the drivers were professional knowledgeable helpful and fun. Can’t wait for the next trip with Kensington

The trip was amazing and everyone was…

The trip was amazing and everyone was incredibly kind. We felt safe at all times and had amazing drivers that were incredible at navigating that insane traffic. The boat was a wonderful way to travel down the Nile and was a unique experience. We got to see so much and more than we expected and felt incredibly fulfilled. I think everyone at Kensington was professional, kind and very good at their job. I can absolutely say that I’ll be looking to go through Kensington for future travels. I’d like to specifically thank Moe at Kensington for organizing everything and taking care of every little detail. He was truly amazing!

Dear Rachael, Thank you for taking the time to write your kind review. We are so happy to read about your amazing experiences and great drivers. Traffic in different parts of the world can require a great local driver! We also love to hear your compliments to Moe. We look forward to connecting with you again for another fulfilling travel experience. Sincerely, -The Team at Kensington Tours

Kensington for Laos and Cambodia!

Kensington put together a great tour for us, and then when we had a couple of hiccups they were there to provide attractive alternatives. They have local insights that make a trip special, and Dev was always there to create a truly memorable experience!

Dear Molly & Len, We are so glad to hear our team assisted you during the hiccups, and that Dev was always there for you. Thank you for your kind review, and we look forward to working with you in the future in creating more memories! Sincerely, - The Team at Kensington Tours

kensington tours hours

Hello forum,

I am an experienced traveler who has visited over 104 countries and dealt with many tour operators, good and bad, and Kensington Tours was by far my worst experience with any of them. I’m sharing my recent experience below in the sole hope that others considering this company will have some indication of what they are getting into.

-From the outset Kensington refused to provide names or contact information for any drivers or guides meeting us at during any phase of our trip.

-During one leg a driver almost failed to show up entirely, arriving over half an hour late as we were prepared to give up waiting and board a taxi.

-Kensington’s agents in Santiago had no knowledge of two meals confirmed on our itinerary.

-Kensington insisted we would be flying to Lima, Peru when our itinerary had us confirmed for Punta Arenas, Chile.

-Kensington scheduled a 5:20am car for a 6:00am flight , knowing that the airport was 35 minutes away.

-During a six hour drive from Torres Del Paine to El Calafate for which we had confirmed a box lunch, the lunch was forgotten by the guide, and no water was available for the entire journey.

-When inquiring about adding Machu Picchu to our schedule Kensington made no attempt to warn us that on February 13th the U.S. Embassy in Lima issued a security message for US citizens indicating a specific threat to kidnap U.S. citizens in the Cusco and Machu Picchu area.

-Kensington went ahead and charged $11,000 for the Machu Picchu trip to my credit card without my consent and with full knowledge that we were no longer interested. They reversed the charge only after being warned by the President of American Express Platinum that this was unacceptable behavior from a merchant affiliate.

I am not seeking any form of compensation from Kensington, but I hope that others will heed the above and spare themselves a similar experience.

Hello AndyFromAmagansett

Welcome to Tripadvisor and sorry to have of your experience.

Interestingly there are already quite a few threads on Kensington Tours so it might have been better to just have posted your experience to an existing thread instead of create a new one. Anyway, you might want to post your experience to a thread for them in Peru. Here is a link to the search I just did for 'kensington tours' on the main Tripadvisor homepage.

http://www.tripadvisor.com/Search?q=Kensington+Tours&sub-search=SEARCH&geo=&pid=3826&returnTo=__2F__#ssrc=f,o=0,c=global

Hope this is helpful and trust your future travel experiences will be better. Importantly, keep traveling. We have to take the good with the bad!!!

Having said all that, I must also comment that our accommodations were outstanding, and they weren't all five star either. Our agent did a fantastic job in suggesting places that were in great locations, unique, or historic and atmospheric. We were thrilled with each place we stayed for one reason or two others. In several of the places we were upgraded, which I felt was most probably due to Kensington. All in all ours was a great trip, and as a result, I have recommended Kensington to friends. However, I have to say that after reading what Andy went through and the bit of discomfort we experienced due to a lack of preparation and information by Kensington, I would have to attach a disclaimer to any future recommendations that I would give the company.

I wish I had seen this, post before I spent a fortune paying Kensington for a family trip to Budapest, Vienna and Prague. They utterly failed to provide the required services and left us abandoned rather than guided. Their hotel recommendation was poor and they have responded to my inquiries with rudeness and insult. I would never use them again or recommend them.

My Kensington Tours experience could not have been more different. I’ve done two trips (Kenya & Tanzania 2010 and Peru 2013). Their staff were extremely knowledgeable and always quick to answer my frequent emails and questoins. Our guides were always on time, super friendly and really knowledgeable. In Peru and especially Africa they went out of their way to keep us happy and exceed our expectations. Our guide Godfrey knew the craziest details about every animal and bird. On our last day in Maasai Mara my friend who is a photographer was disappointed to not yet have gotten the perfect elephant photo. So Godfrey changed our entire day and we focused on tracking the herds until he got the perfect shot. I’m planning Myanmar next – won’t hesitate to call Kensington.

I agree with this review wholeheartedly. I am also an experienced traveler - more like 45 countries. I agree that I have had good and bad experiences but thought that I knew what to ask for in order to get close to what I wanted. My "expert" at Kensington tours, however, rejected every good idea I had for our trip. This wasn't just incompetence; it was an arrogance.

I decided to take my wife to Iceland for her 55th birthday as she always wanted to see the Northern Lights. This year was the best year in 60 years. There were Northern Lights 27 out of 28 days in February and 4 out of the 5 days we were in Iceland. Although we saw them faintly from the city, we never really saw them. I suggested booking 2 nights to see the Northern Lights, since that was our main reason for going to Iceland, but I was told that it would not be necessary because Kensington Tours would take care of picking the right night. Just before I got to Iceland, the forecast for our first couple of days looked clearer than the rest. I then sent several emails requesting that our Northern Lights tour be moved up from the last night to one of the first nights. Instead of doing as requested, Kensington Tours managed to move our trip to the week after we left Iceland but failed to tell us of this change. As a result, after hearing people talking day after day about the amazing Northern Lights, on the day we expected our tour no one showed up. As a result, we booked a much more expensive tour to chase the Northern lights. Unfortunately, we took this tour on the only day we were in Iceland that the Northern Lights did not appear. The tour companies in Iceland have a policy if you do not see the Northern Lights, they will let you go for free until you do see them. Unfortunately, as Kensington Tours booked us for our last night in Iceland instead of the beginning of the week as I had repeatedly requested, we could not take advantage of this guarantee.

The other thing that we really wanted to do while in Iceland was a 3 hour hike on a glacier. When we arrived at the glacier there were two buses from the same tour company one for a 1 hour tour and one for a 3 hour hike, and total pandaemonium. We got off the bus and were called by a guide from the tour company to get our crampons. It was only after we were on the glacier that we learned that we and 2 other couples from our bus were on the 1 hour instead of the 3 hour hike.

When our concerns were raised with Kensington Tours after the fact, pointing out the dozen or more emails making it clear that the Northern Lights were the primary reason we were going to Iceland, requesting to pay for multiple Northern Lights tours, requesting our Northern Lights tour be moved to the beginning of our trip, and the fact that had any of these requests been honored we would have seen fabulous Northern Lights, Kensington tours initially only would not even refund the costs we incurred for these failed events. They had no understanding of the thousands of dollars we had wasted on a bounced tour. Nor did they appreciate that two professionals have difficulty taking time off from work and use them to arrange a vacation so it will be perfect when they do. Eventually, after multiple emails Kensington tours reimbursed us for the failed trips but totally refused to take responsibility for the failed trip or the cost of going again to see the Northern Lights.

If I have the time, I arrange our own vacations, but when pressed by the demands of my jobs, I rely on tour companies. I will forever regret the Google search that came up with Kensington Tours as experts for Iceland travel. I would not use them to book me a walk across the street and hope that you will read this and avoid the same mistake that I made.

If you want any more details on how unprofessional and unknowledgeable Kensington Tours was during out trip to Iceland, please contact me at [email protected].

We too are very experienced world travelers. We chose Kensington to plan our family vacation to Thailand because we wanted a high quality customized tour that would include small children. Custom tour? No! Every excursion was a hotel lobby pamphlet tour that I could have arranged myself. We did not have one guide accompany us throughout our entire trip as we were led to believe. A guide would pick us up at the airport and deliver us to our hotel. The next day a different guide would show up to take us on our "custom" pamphlet tour.

We were booked in hotels very far from the planned excursions. It took more than an hour in Bangkok to go to our Palace tour. Then an hour back to the hotel. Then another hour to go on our evening "foodie" tour, and an hour back. Don't go for the "foodie" street food tour.

Then in Chang Mai we were booked into a substitute four star hotel (I'm not sure how they got four stars!) instead of the five star hotel on the itinerary. One family of four were split into two separate rooms on two different floors, even though we had requested and paid for connecting rooms for them almost a year in advance!

Then in Phuket we were an hours drive from our beautiful (but remote) hotel to the launch site to visit the Phi Phi Islands. Then more hours in the boat. The entire day was spent traveling in a van or in a boat with very little time to enjoy any sights.

We were scheduled to have a jungle safari walk in the morning (remember the rain), have lunch, drive the three hours to Phuket airport and arrive in Bangkok in the evening for a 6:00 am flight the next morning to go back home. Of course, international flights require you to be there two hours ahead of time, so we had to be at the Bangkok airport by 4:00 am. Terrible scheduling for our last two days. I called a local travel company and begged them to rescue us from Kensington's inept planning. So we got to Bangkok in the late afternoon instead of late at night. That helped even though we had to pay extra to Elephant Hills for the change in plans.

I didn't see any schedules for our in-country flights until we got to Thailand. I had vouchers for all the hotels and the little guided tours. So, I actually was the guide in charge of overseeing the trip, not Kensington!

For the price they charge for their off-the-shelf "custom" tours, you can do a lot better than Kensington. We will definitely never use them again.

Never on any previous trip with Kensington have their representatives failed to accommodate our group with suggestions and or requests for changes in our trips during the planning stages and or during the actual trip. In fact, they have gone out of their way to work with us. They are easy to communicate with while in country--I have emailed our representative before we turn in for the night and by the next morning, our answer to any question and or solution to any problems--potential or actual-- is waiting for us. In Nepal, our rep actually called the corporate offices of the airline we were flying with and made it possible for us to check our bags straight through to NYC instead of having to re check everything onto our connecting flight from Katmandu to Delhi.

I find it regretful that any individual feels "OK" about publishing such a negative review. I guess that one person's idea of adventure travel is not another man's idea of adventure travel. And, perhaps if our previous trips with Kensington had cost even a fraction of the amounts of money that you are mentioning....well, perhaps we would have "sweated the small stuff" more. Wow...an $11,000 charge. Glad you have a platinum card...we travel the world quite nicely with our green one.

I would not hesitate to travel with Kensington again and I highly recommend them to anyone thinking of traveling with them.

PS It is every US citizen's responsibility to be aware of travel warnings. That is not the responsibility of your tour company. I strongly suggest that you register with the US State Department prior to your next trip. The app for you smartphone--US State Department Smart Traveler-- is free and you will receive any warnings regarding in country related warnings to US citizens 24/7 directly to your phone.

I was recently asked for some recommendations on an Africa trip so looked up some old emails and itinerary to send a good friend. I took my mother there for her 60th birthday in 2009 through Kensington Tours. A close friend knew the founder of the company and highly recommended it. I did not expect any special treatment, but was surprised by the level of abhorrent service and after service. I had initially tried to sort out things directly with the company rather than post a negative review as I know how damaging that can be for a company that is dependent on online reviews. However, the only compensation we were offered was a credit to travel again through Kensington Tours, which my mother and I will never do again. Since I was looking up my old itinerary, I was curious to see whether others had experienced the same poor service for such an expensive trip such as a Safari and was relieved to see that others had taken the time to post the reviews.

There appears to be some others in this thread who have had good experiences with the company and I'm sure that some of the dealings must be positive or the company would find themselves out of business. However, I was surprised that there was an accusation that people take lightly posting negative replies. I think it is safe to say that when you consider online reviews, many are hesitant to post negative reviews so those who have taken the time must have truly had horrible experiences. We paid the company nearly $20,000 USD for a trip of a lifetime for my mother - it is not because we have platinum cards or travel that way typically, but my mother had wanted to go to Africa all her life. I wanted the experience to be the best it could be.

The main issue was our driver. He was horrible. He was lazy, rude, unhelpful, unwilling to accommodate and at times, scoffed at us. When we were travelling through an area where tze tze flies are abundant, he refused to close the windows and turn on the a/c in the vehicle despite our being attacked and bitten. We paid to have a private safari and the level of service was insulting. We tried our best efforts to give the driver a chance, but he was completely ruining our trip. It was so bad that by the 4th day, we contacted the company contact (which was very difficult to do) and requested a new driver to be sent. There was a great deal of resistance to this and I had to insist that either the company sent a driver or we would hire one and seek compensation from them even if that required legal proceedings. They did in fact send another driver who was a huge improvement, but by the time he arrived we were half way through the safari portion of our trip.

When we arrived at the Ngorongoro Crater, there was a confusion in our room booking. Apparently, Kensington had only booked us for one night instead of two. I had intentionally booked us for two nights at the accommodation there in order for my mother to have an opportunity to have a little rest before we continued through the safari (there were many nights we only spent one night at an accommodation in order to cover what we wished). Because of the mistake, the hotel manager was only able to offer us sub-par family accommodations in a much lower category room than we paid for. Not only was this a poor substitute for a great deal of planning on my part, but this meant we had to pack up and move again the second night to get the room we had paid for for at least the second night. When this was brought up with Kensington Tours on our return, they blamed the hotel for overbooking. There was no effort by the company to seek any refund for the rate of room we were offered nor was there any compensation offered to us for the money they took in payment from us.

Overall, the company seems to be ok, but is not a high quality product. If you are paying a substantial amount for a special trip, I would suggest considering another company to plan your details.

  • Princess Diana lived at Kensington Palace. Princes William and Harry also spent some of their early years here. After their mother’s sudden death in 1997, the grounds outside the grand building were carpeted in floral tributes from members of the public.
  • Queen Victoria grew up at Kensington Palace. She also first met Prince Albert there. The V&A (Victoria and Albert) Museum in nearby South Kensington is named after the lovestruck Royal couple. Victoria lived there until she became Queen.
  • The so-called Kensington System was a stringent and detailed set of rules laid out by Victoria, Duchess of Kent and the mother of Queen Victoria. The system was meant to increase the young royal’s dependency on her mother, but in fact made her more strong-willed and independent than ever.
  • The late Princess Margaret, the sister of Queen Elizabeth II and the Countess of Snowdon, was one of the true socialites of Kensington Palace. She held lots of parties there during the 1960s, which were attended by the likes of the Beatles, actor Peter Sellers, ballet dancers Margot Fonteyn and Rudolph Nureyev, actresses Britt Ekland and Elizabeth Taylor and even comedian Spike Milligan.
  • King William III first bought Kensington Palace for health reasons. His fragile disposition reacted badly to the fog, dampness and smoke of central London, so he bought the building, which was then located in a village outside the capital. Ironically he died of pneumonia at the palace. It was formerly known simply as Nottingham House.
  • A book of drawings by Leonardo da Vinci was discovered at the palace in 1770. This was over 180 years after the Mona Lisa artist died. Drawings by Henry VIII’s court painter were also discovered during the 1700s – two centuries later.
  • The palace was used for practical purposes during both World Wars. In World War I, it was used for clerical reasons and the staff concerned had to adhere to rationing. When World War II was going on, Kensington Palace Gardens were used for military defence, but were also hit by a bomb which damaged parts of the palace, including the State Apartments.
  • Did you know that one of the Peter Pan books was set in Kensington Gardens? Author J. M. Barrie penned Peter Pan in Kensington Gardens as he lived locally. Various parts of the gardens feature in the fictional tale about the boy who never wanted to grow up. The Peter Pan statue in the gardens dates from 1912, only a few years after the book’s publication.
  • Despite her unhappy childhood spent at the palace, Queen Victoria saved the iconic palace during the final years of her life. Due to neglect, there was talk of the palace being razed to the ground in around 1897, but the Queen managed to turn its fortunes around. By 1899, the restored State Rooms at the palace were open to the public.
  • You can hire parts of the palace for a Royal (style) wedding or another event. Spaces such as the King’s Drawing Room, the Cupola, the Queen’s Gallery, the Privy Chamber and the King’s Gallery can be rented out.

Kensington Palace Opening Times

Kensington Palace is open between Wednesday and Sunday, apart from planned closures such as exhibition preparation, restoration work or Royal events like the coronation of King Charles III.

The palace opens between 10 am and 6 pm, with the last entry an hour earlier. It’s closed to the public on Mondays and Tuesdays.

The gardens are open to the public from 6 am daily. Closing times vary throughout the year. They range between 4.15 pm during most of December to 9.45 pm between early June and mid-July.

The times reflect the hours of darkness in London. This is why they are seasonal. The UK’s shortest day is in mid to late December, and the longest in mid to late June. Entry to the gardens alone is free.

Check opening times for the dates of your visit here .

  • Kensington Palace is open from Wednesday to Sunday and is closed on Monday and Tuesday.
  • If you can, visit on Wednesday, Thursday or Friday rather than on Saturday or Sunday. This is because weekends are busier.
  • The summer season is also a busy time for the palace. The UK school holidays run from mid-July to the start of September, so you can expect the palace to be busy during this period.
  • For a more peaceful experience, get there before the palace opens for the day. Alternatively, visit in the afternoon, around two hours before closing time.
  • If you want to visit Kensington Palace Gardens only, or separately, you can do this between 6 am and nightfall. Closing times for the gardens vary according to the season and sunset times, though they are always open to pedestrians at 6 am. Entry to the gardens is free.

There is plenty to see at Kensington Palace, plus you also have the gardens to explore. Inside, the King’s State Apartments, the Queen’s State Apartments, the King’s Staircase, the Jewel Room and the King’s Gallery are among the main attractions.

Kensington Palace also hosts a regular programme of events. At the time of writing, for example, events included a Crown to Couture exhibition about historic and contemporary costumes. Victoria: A Royal Childhood also told the tale of the famous Queen’s formative years.

Kensington Gardens is also a major attraction in its own right. Some of the highlights of this outside space include the Sunken Garden, the wildflower meadow in spring and summer, the shady Cradle Walk (aka Nanny Walk) and the Formal Gardens.

  • If you can, buy tickets for Kensington Palace in advance. This means you can avoid queueing up to get in. It’s often busy here, especially in summer and at weekends.
  • The palace is closed for two days each week, on Mondays and Tuesdays. Part or all of it can also close for restoration work, the setting up of exhibitions and Royal events.
  • Though you’ll have to pay to tour the palace, entry to the gardens is free. They open daily at 6 am and close at around sunset. You can see the palace from the outside here.
  • Book an afternoon tea at the palace if you have time. It’s a splendid setting for such a quintessential British tradition. You can book this alongside your ticket via the links given at the top of this guide.
  • You can experience afternoon tea at the Kensington Palace Pavilion but if you prefer you can also find plenty of places to pick up food and drinks or eat at on Kensington High Street.
  • Do allow time for the gardens. They’re one of the highlights of the palace experience. They are free to enter, though, so returning on another day may be an option you could consider.
  • If you’re a fan of the late Princess Diana – the first wife of King Charles III – then don’t miss the Sunken Garden. This is said to have been one of her favourite spots of all.
  • It’s worth thinking about which London museums you want to visit before planning your day at the palace. Several prominent museums – including the Natural History Museum, the Science Museum and the V&A are also in the Kensington area. This can save on travel time and costs. Entry is free to all three, though it’s worth checking whether online booking is required.
  • Take the tube to the palace. High Street Kensington is a good one to go for, as it’s on both the Circle and District lines. You can also find lots of shops, cafes and so on right by the station. If you have access to the Central line, though, Queensway could be more convenient.
  • Try to plan your visit for a sunny day, if possible. This is tricky in a country with an often-wet climate, but exploring Kensington Gardens is far more pleasant when the sun is shining!

March 22, 2024 - Catherine, Princess of Wales, says she has cancer

From CNN Digital's Photo Team

Catherine, Princess of Wales, revealed Friday that she has been  diagnosed with cancer  and is in the "early stages" of treatment.

Kate married Prince William, now the heir apparent to the British throne, in 2011. They met while attending the University of St. Andrews in Scotland.

See  more photos from Kate's life.

Prince William and Kate are followed by Prince Harry and Pippa Middleton as they leave Westminster Abbey in London after their wedding ceremony in 2011.

US President Biden wishes Kate "full recovery"

US President Joe Biden makes his way to board Marine One before departing from the South Lawn of the White House in Washington, DC, on Friday, March 22.

US President Joe Biden said he and first lady Jill Biden wished Catherine, the Princess of Wales, a full recovery.

"Jill and I join millions around the world in praying for your full recovery, Princess Kate," he said on X , formerly Twitter.

Kate's whereabouts became a subject of frenzied speculation over the last few months

From CNN's Christian Edwards

Before Catherine, Princess of Wales , revealed she had been diagnosed with cancer on Friday, she had been mostly absent from the public eye since undergoing abdominal surgery in January.

Kate’s health and whereabouts became the subject of frenzied speculation , despite the palace reiterating that it had “made clear in January the timelines of the Princess’ recovery” and that the public should not expect to see her until after Easter.

Kate was first seen in public earlier this month after she was spotted in Windsor wearing dark sunglasses and sitting in the front passenger seat of a car driven by her mother, Carole Middleton.

Speculation about Kate’s health continued, putting pressure on the family to reveal more details.

Trying to put rumors to rest: In what appeared to be an attempt to end the rumors, Kate published an official photograph of her and her three children — George, Charlotte and Louis — on Mother’s Day, which was marked in the UK on March 10.

But instead of ending the speculation, it  fueled it instead . Members of the public swiftly noticed several irregularities in the image. After a day of more amateur sleuthing, Kate admitted that she had edited the photograph, and apologized. Multiple global news agencies recalled the image from circulation hours later, citing manipulation concerns.

Records investigation : Most recently, the UK’s data watchdog said earlier this week that it is “assessing” reports that a staff member at the London Clinic allegedly  tried to access  Kate’s private medical records.

Here's what we know so far about Kate's cancer diagnosis

From CNN staff

Catherine, Princess of Wales in Sutton, England, on September 12, 2023.

Catherine, Princess of Wales, announced Friday she has been diagnosed with cancer and is in the "early stages" of chemotherapy treatment.

The princess, known as Kate, described her diagnosis as a “huge shock” in a video  statement  that was filmed by BBC Studios at Windsor on Wednesday.

“We hope that you will understand that, as a family, we now need some time, space and privacy while I complete my treatment," the princess said. "My work has always brought me a deep sense of joy and I look forward to being back when I am able, but for now I must focus on making a full recovery."

Here's what we know so far:

  • Few details expected: Kate, 42, who is married to the heir to the British throne, Prince William, did not say what type of cancer she had been diagnosed with and Kensington Palace is not expected to reveal any further medical details, such as what stage the cancer is in.
  • Abdominal surgery: The announcement comes two months after Kate had stepped away from public life temporarily following what Kensington Palace said at the time was surgery for a non-cancerous abdominal conditio n. She remained in a London hospital for 13 days following the procedure. Kate was spotted in public last weekend for the first time since January, visiting a farm shop with her husband.
  • Preventative chemotherapy: The princess started preventative chemotherapy in late February, a royal source told CNN. She had been expected to return to official duties after Easter. However, she will now postpone further work until she has been cleared by her medical team, the source said.
  • Reactions: The news prompted a wave of sympathy and support from public figures around the world, including Prime Minister Rishi Sunak , King Charles , Prince Harry and Meghan , the head of England's National Health Service , Kate's brother James Middleton , French President Emmanuel Macron , as well as the White House and US first lady Jill Biden .
  • King Charles also has cancer: Kate's diagnosis is a devastating blow for the British monarchy as  King Charles III is currently undergoing treatment  for an unspecified cancer, which was announced in early February.
  • How to tell children: In the time Kate spent away from the public before revealing her cancer diagnosis, one of her biggest priorities was finding the right way to tell her children, she said. CNN understands the royal couple wanted to wait for their young children to be out of school for the Easter vacation before making an announcement. When talking to young people about a parent's cancer diagnosis, experts advise taking the child's age into account. Read more for tips on how to talk to kids about cancer diagnoses.

French president says Princess of Wales' "strength and resilience inspire us all"

French President Emmanuel Macron stands at the entrance to the Elysee Palace in Paris, France, on March 11.

James Middleton, the brother of the Princess of Wales, wrote a touching message on Instagram to his sister Friday after her shocking cancer announcement .

The 36-year-old entrepreneur shared an old family photo of him with his teenage sister.

Prince Harry and Meghan send best wishes to Kate after cancer diagnosis

From CNN’s Max Foster

The video in which the Princess of Wales revealed her cancer diagnosis was filmed by BBC Studios at Windsor on Wednesday.

Kensington Palace is not expected to reveal any further medical details, such as the type of cancer or what stage it is.

The princess started preventative chemotherapy in late February, a royal source told CNN.

Kate had been expected to return to official duties after Easter. However, she will now postpone further work until she has been cleared by her medical team, the source said.

Prince William has been balancing supporting his wife and children while continuing his public-facing duties and will continue to do so, the source added.
