Construction of Western Sydney International (Nancy-Bird Walton) Airport (WSI) is underway and on track to begin operations in 2026. The airport is a transformational infrastructure project that will generate economic activity, provide employment opportunities closer to home for people in the Western Sydney region, and meet Sydney's growing aviation needs.

The Australian Government is investing in WSI and has established a Commonwealth company, the Western Sydney Airport Corporation (WSA Co), to deliver the airport by 2026. Further details can be found on the WSA Co website ( www.westernsydney.com.au ).

The airport will be a full-service airport operating curfew free to deliver international, domestic and freight services.

Thorough environmental assessment in 2015-16 has informed measures that will mitigate and manage the effects of the airport's construction and operation on surrounding communities.

The Australian Government is responsible for developing the flight paths for single runway operations at WSI by the end of 2026.

The preliminary design and environmental assessment phase for single runway operations is underway. A draft Environmental Impact Statement (EIS), including details of the preliminary flight paths, has been released. The draft EIS is on public exhibition between 24 October 2023 and 31 January 2024. People can have their say on the draft EIS by making a submission during this period.

The draft EIS examines the noise, social and environmental impacts of the proposed flight paths. The digital draft EIS can be found on the WSI airspace and flight path design Online Community Portal This website also includes information on how to make a submission, supporting material on the draft EIS and details about community information events where you can speak to members of the Flight Paths Team.

We are committed to consulting the community on WSI flight paths. We encourage you to sign up to our mailing list to receive updates on the planning process for flight paths.

Taylor Swift’s private jet departs for Singapore marking end of her Australian era

The pop superstar’s jet has taken off from Sydney Airport, officially marking the end of her Australian era.

Taylor Swift’s jet has taken off from Sydney Airport, marking the end of her whirlwind two-week Eras Tour visit.

More than 600,000 tickets were sold to her seven shows in Melbourne and Sydney, including three sold-out shows at the MCG with record audiences of 96,000 fans a night.

The chartered VistaJet flight will make the eight-hour journey to Singapore for the next leg of her world tour.

In her usual fashion, Swift was boarded onto the plane in secrecy with the plane taking off ahead of its midday departure time.

The Cruel Summer singer arrived at Sydney Airport last Monday, after finishing a three-day run of shows in Melbourne.

She was spotted getting on the plane wearing her boyfriend Travis Kelce’s Chiefs Super Bowl Champions hat, as well as a red top and shorts.

The star was briefly delayed by thunderstorms and lighting strikes in the area, with multiple domestic flights forced to make adjustments to their flight plan.

Swift’s jet pulled into a hangar in the airport, so that she could leave the plane to privately go to her hotel in the city. After landing, she joined a convoy of cars where she is believed to have been taken to a penthouse at Crown in Barangaroo.

Three days later, Kelce created quite a stir when he arrived at the airport along with fellow NFL star Ross Travis.

Fans had speculated the Superbowl champion would make a surprise visit to Australia after he hinted at making a trip to an “venture to an island real soon” on the podcast New Heights which he co-hosts with brother Jason Kelce.

Swifts jet takes off from Sydney Airport for Singapore. Picture: FlightRadar24

More than 6000 people were glued to their screens when Swift first touched down at Melbourne’s Tullamarine airport two weeks ago.

Swift travelled on a Bombardier Global 6000, a luxurious private jet that boasts a maximum range of 6000 nautical miles with a capacity of up to 17 passengers.

She left herself just a couple of days to get over the jetlag before taking the stage for her first Australian show since her Reputation Tour in 2018.

However, this should have proved no trouble for Swift, as she was quoted a few days earlier at the Superbowl saying to Kelce that “jetlag was a choice”.

Jet controversy

Swift recently sold her private jet, a Dassault Falcon 900, in January ahead of the Australian leg of her Eras Tour.

The pop superstar has been criticised for her frequent private jet use over the past few years.

In November last year, her jet was sent to Kansas City where it picked up Kelce, before taking the NFL star Buenos Aires where she was performing.

A Taylor Swift fan has revealed on TikTok how he managed to sneak into her Sydney concert but he has paid a huge price for his bold move.

Shortly after touching down at Sydney airport, the Jonas Brothers stunned onlookers as they casually rocked up at a popular Bondi Beach venue.

Footage from Taylor Swift’s sold-out concert in Sydney has sparked a fiery response from diehard fans who missed out on a ticket.

Taylor Swift Concert Evacuated Over Lightning Strike

Taylor Swift's record-breaking world tour is not immune to the effects of Australia's wild summer weather.

The Context

Part of the stadium at her Sydney show was evacuated on Friday after lightning strikes nearby, with some on social media saying they were as close as 10 km (6 miles).

She is Down Under for her Eras world tour and has just finished a series of shows in the southern city of Melbourne, where she played to 96,000 people at each of the three concerts.

What We Know

Located in Western Sydney, the Accor Stadium is playing host to Swift's shows in the city on her current tour, the first of which is on Friday.

It was due to start at 6.20 p.m. local time but was partially evacuated according to posts on X, formerly Twitter , and local media.

"The floor and lower bowl are currently being evacuated due to lightning strikes nearby the stadium at today's show of Taylor Swift 's 'The Eras Tour' in Sydney, Australia. Please stay safe and seek shelter for now," a post on X read.

The stadium was the site for the 2000 Olympic Games but does not have a retractable roof to protect spectators, athletes and performers from the elements.

"Stay undercover until further notice and follow venue screens and staff instructions," a post on the stadium's official X account read. "Stay safe and remember to be kind to those around you."

A meteorologist at the national Bureau of Meteorology (BoM) explained a weather system was likely to bring heavy rain, lightning, thunder and damaging winds.

"It will be brief but they will be pretty damaging when they do hit," senior meteorologist Dean Narramore told 9News.

A number of flights into Sydney carrying fans headed to the concert were delayed because of the inclement weather.

National carrier Qantas, had even put put on a special Airbus A380 from Melbourne to Sydney to allow for the volume of Swifties traveling north for the concerts.

The decision to delay flights was made by the government agency, Airservices Australia, which said it would do its best to get "Swifties," the name of singer's fan base, to the concert.

A spokesperson for Airservices Australia said it was "delighted to be assisting our key customer Qantas in ensuring Swifties can get to Sydney before the inclement weather impacts the airport."

"Airborne and ground delays are expected. It is recommended that passengers reach out to their airlines," the spokesperson told The Guardian.

Some people shared their experiences at the concert including how supporting act, Sabrina Carpenter, would no longer be performing.

"Sad for Sabrina Carpenter and her fans - apparently she won't be performing tonight in Sydney due to the rain delay," wrote one person on X.

Another person added that about an hour after the evacuation the weather was clearing and shared a photo of a rainbow appearing over the stadium.

A second documented the rainbow: "Looks like the there is a calm approaching after the rain - a rainbow appearing over the stadium!"

What's Next?

Swift is likely to perform no matter how much rain falls on her. She has done it plenty of times before, including during an Eras show in Massachusetts in May 2023.

"Last night we all danced together in the rain for THE ENTIRE 3.5 HOUR SHOW,' Swift wrote on X at the time. "This was a full on deluge that never let up, I just want to thank that iconic crowd!! Love you so much you have no idea."

It also rained heavily during some of her shows the last time she played in Australia in 2018, a fact that was not lost on fans.

"This rain and thunderstorm feels all too familiar for us.... did someone say it's Rep Tour Sydney November 2nd 2018......" one person wrote on X.

For her remaining three shows in Sydney, fans can expect a mixed bag of weather.

While showers are predicted, they should only be in the morning on Saturday and even less likely to happen at all for Sunday's show, according to the BoM.

However, temperatures will remain hot and humid for the entire Sydney run at about 27 degrees Celsius (80 degrees Fahrenheit).

Swifties attending the show and arriving early to get the best spots are advised to pack extra sunscreen because there are anticipated UV levels of 10.

The World Health Organization says any level of UV above 8 requires attention.

"Shirt, sunscreen and hat are a must," according to the WHO website.
