Coach pick-up from hotel and then you go on an amazing drive up in the hills until you reach the cable car base station, stopping for a coffee/snack on the way. The views are awesome and you really can’t believe how high up you go until you are above the clouds! You are packed in on the cable car - only 2 seats available - but it only takes 8 minutes to top. There is a viewing platform and you can take a couple of different walkways to other viewing points, but beware this is across volcanic rock so is not flat and some rocks move so good sturdy walking shoes are essential. The air is thinner up there so you may not have the energy to walk far if you have breathing problems but can still view from the cable car station. There is a loo at the top but nothing else, the cafe is at the bottom after you get off cable car. If you want to climb to the crater edge you have to apply for a permit at least 3 months in advance, but it is a steep climb. A thoroughly enjoyable experience. Read more Written March 25, 2024

The tour was interesting, informative & the guide had a great sense of humour. It was too windy & icy for the cable car, but still absolutely loved our day. • 692daver 0 contributions 4.0 of 5 bubbles Great Views but pickups a nightmare Fantastic views from top of Teide. Cable Car booked via tour and all good but as others have stated the pickups are crazy. Over an hour and a half winding thru southern Tenerife doing pickups. I would advise going for a small group private tour. It only takes 1 hour to get to Teide but via this tour 3 hours almost!! Too many little breaks that last 30 mins half way there and back. • Faith T 0 contributions 3.0 of 5 bubbles Disappointed and angry Advised on booking tour not to purchase a cable car ticket, even though the cable car element was important to us. The reason - if the cable car wasn't running there is no refund of ticket cost. Told to check on line on the day and buy the ticket if the cable car was running. This sounded reasonable however, on the day we found that most people HAD purchased the cable car tickets in advance and there were NO tickets available to go up in the cable car at the times when tour coaches and mini bus tours arrived to use the cable car - this was between 12.00 and 13.50 when the tour companies appear to have block booked the tickets. The tours appear to have staggered drop off and pick up slots during this time, they allow an hour to ascend and return, then pick up and leave, so it isn't possible to book either earlier (as you won't arrive on time) or later (as the coach will leave without you). We were extremely disappointed and angry at the erroneous advice given. If going up in the cable car to the highest point possible is important to you, we strongly suggest booking the tickets when you book the tour to avoid disappointment, of course you do risk losing your money if the weather is bad, you can minimise this risk by booking directly with the tour company who may refund, or with the national park on their official website, with the plus bus service. Best of luck everyone! Read more Written February 29, 2024

This trip was booked through get your guide who also refused refund. Ripped off for 150.00. This company claims get your guide sent them wrong contact details. Get ur guide claims they are lying. Who knows but 150.00 is a lot to loose through incompetence. My advice would be AVOID. Read more Written January 12, 2024
  • garythomasp 0 contributions 2.0 of 5 bubbles Check the transfer time!!!! Good trip, fantastic views but totally spoiled by the length of transfer, pick up at 7.00am , missing breakfast, return 3.15pm missed lunch. Much easier to do on public transport probably as service bus goes to the cable car. Would not use this company again without checking the time they drag you around picking up others. • Z3026OWandrewn 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Fabulous experience+views! We went on the cable car to see the views from mount Teide. It was an absolutely unforgettable experience. The cable car traveled us up to mount Teide smoothly and quickly,a little bumpy at times. The views were breathtaking from the mountain and you have various pathways to explore. You are only allowed a maximum of 1 hour up there as the conditions are so harsh and the air is full of sulphur. There are toilet facilities up there. You can take loads of fabulous pictures with the views. • Vijay_from_Surrey 0 contributions 3.0 of 5 bubbles Had better observatory tours, looking through a telescope was limited The guide was fine and knowledgeable. There was a lot of talking and not much showing. We saw the sun through a couple of small telescopes. Was hoping to see through one of the large permanent ones so that was a let down compared to other observatory tours we have done such as Herstmonceux but this may be a function of the telescopes being owned by various organisations/counties. • simonjctucker 0 contributions 2.0 of 5 bubbles Don’t book the tour, make your own way there and take your time. We we told to allow 8 hours for the trip. In the end it was 6 hours and 45 minutes from pick-up to drop-off. The bus was full and hot. The air conditioning did not work properly. The driver and our guide were excellent. The coffee stop on the way out to Teide was both welcome and a nice place. However, when we got to Teide it was 10:45 and we were told to be back on the bus at 12:00. This was not enough time to enjoy the visit. Our bus was full and there were many other tours and tourists already at the site. Cable cars were busy. By the time we got off the cable car at the top it was 11:10 so we had approximately 35 minutes to explore. It is such a beautiful place and we missed much of it. No time for looking at the shop. No time for lunch and a drink. It is a long journey to and from Puerto del la Cruz to Teide. I would recommend to others that they go by car and take as much time as they want at the site. Do book cable car tickets online before you go to the mountain. It gets sold out quickly! Read more Written October 26, 2023

  • alexsQ6258UN 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles INCREDIBLE We had such a wonderful trip! The coach picked us up punctually before proceeding up the mountain. Our tour guide, Benjamin, was brilliant, giving us information all the way up and down- it was obvious he was knowledgeable and passionate about what he was doing. Unfortunately the cable car was closed due to high winds, so our tour took us round the national park and to the observatory instead. There were plenty of stops to admire the landscape and take photos- it was completely surreal and beautiful. Seeing the flora change the higher you climbed was so exciting- we even saw a lizard! Despite the windy roads, the driver Rafa was careful and gentle, and I felt safe the whole way. Benjamin even serenaded us on the way down! My only gripe was that we were told to wear warm clothes, but we were greeted with very warm weather, although I can only assume it's cooler at the top of the mountain. I've seen plenty of excursions labelled as 'must do', but this absolutely is a MUST DO experience. Utterly breathtaking. Read more Written August 12, 2023
  • KirstyB71 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Breathtaking views and a Great tour guide Our day started at 0700, we were the first to be picked up for our tour of Teide Volcano and cable car. Our tour guide Benjamin was absolutely brilliant, he spoke, Spanish, English & German, and moved through the three languages with ease. We took the longer way up the and saw the remains of the larger Mount Teide that collapse hundreds of years ago. The group were all punctual so allowed the tour to stop at different places and for us to stop at one of the best viewpoints before the crowds arrived. The queue for the cable car was quick, we chose to do the Pico Viejo route, it did not disappoint, the views from the top were breathtaking. The route down and back to our hotels was a lot quicker, but we were taken a more picturesque route. It was a brilliant day from start to finish, I would definitely recommend this tour. About 30 minutes into the trip we were told by our tour guide that the cable car wasn't working due to high winds. We felt this was already known before we got on the bus, so it would've been nice to have been told this before leaving. We proceeded to have a tour of the national park instead of the cable car because of this. We were promised a refund for the cable car part of the ticket. Which we eventually got after a lot of chasing. Nevertheless, our tour guide Antonio made the best of a bad situation. He was charismatic and spoke with great knowledge about the volcano in both Spanish and English. He was a shining star on what couldve been a long day. Read more Written July 12, 2023

Sunset-at-the-Teide-observatory

Description of the experience

You will start the tour at the Teide Observatory, where you will have a guided tour in the afternoon. You will see the sunset from the Observatory itself, a unique spectacle in which the sun sets behind El Teide. An array of colors will adorn the views of the volcano and the ocean.

Once at night we will go to the base of the Teide Cable Car and, away from the light pollution of urban areas, you will discover the secrets of the sky in the astronomical observation with the naked eye and a long-range telescope. From El Teide you can see 83 of the 88 officially recognized constellations.

You will discover stars, planets, galaxies and clusters as you had never imagined, while your Starlight guide shows you the constellations, the celestial map and provides you with interesting information about the objects you observe. Marvel at the immensity of the universe and live an unparalleled experience in one of the most visited national parks in the world.

STARGAZING TEIDE

Did you know that tenerife is one of the best places in the world to observe the sky at night so if you want to take advantage of it, the “stargazing teide” experience is what you are looking for..

⇓ See further description below ⇓

stargazing teide

DESCRIPTION

Trip explanation.

So first of all we pick you up from your accommodation if you are staying in Tenerife south, west or in Puerto de la Cruz (only on Wednesday and Friday). Pickup time depends on the season. We also offer you the option to join us with your car if you prefer. The stargazing Teide trip includes a stop in a panoramic viewpoint in the mountains to let you admire a fantastic sunset. While you are enjoying this spectacular view we offer you a glass of sparkling wine and take some pictures of the group. During the excursion we also have dinner in a local restaurant where you get tasty food and drinks.

When it gets dark we head to the center of the National Park to begin the stargazing Teide experience. The sky here is particularly dark and clear all year round, that makes it one of the best astronomy locations in the world. This is because Tenerife is far from the light pollution caused by big cities and urban areas.

At this point we set up our professional telescopes and get ready to observe the sky. our experienced guide of the stargazing Teide will start to explain and provide interesting information about stars, planets, constellations, galaxies and astronomical phenomena. moreover he will use a powerful laser beam to point out the celestial objects he is talking about.

If during the stargazing Teide the moon is visible that night take a look with the telescope and be ready for astonishment. You can not imagine how well you can see the craters on our satellite planet. We also allow you to take pictures with your mobile phone or camera through the lenses of our observation device.

One of the most interesting things you can see during the stargazing Teide is the Milky Way . This is the galaxy that contains our solar system and it appears like a band of light to our naked eye. Its visibility can be highly reduced by light pollution. For this reason Tenerife is a perfect place to admire it.

When the explanation is finished and everyone has fully enjoyed the tour we leave the park. Of course we drop you off at the same place where we picked you up.

The price of the stargazing Teide excursion depends on several factors. These include the age of the participants, the language spoken (we offer the tour in English, Spanish, German, Dutch, French and Polish) and whether the tour is with dinner or not. Please contact our customer service via live chat for detailed information.

SCHEDULE & PICKUP SERVICE

Pickup service is available from the south, west and Puerto de la Cruz (only on Wednesday and Friday). We recommend you to get in touch with our customer service via live chat and check the availability of transport from your area in any case before booking.

tour astronomico tenerife

For the second year, the Teide Observatory has hosted the "MIT Astronomy Field Camp", a prestigious camp offered by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), considered one of the best and most

The Observatorios de Canarias (OCAN), which consists of the Observatorio del Roque de los Muchachos (ORM) on La Palma and the Observatorio del Teide (OT) on Tenerife, contain jointly the telescopes and instruments of about 60 institutions from more than 20 countries. These are the most important collection of observational facilities for optical and infrared astrophysics inside the EU. Other experiments for high-energy astrophysics and the study of the cosmic microwave background complete the battery of facilities available. The excellent astronomical quality of the sky over the Canary Islands – comprehensively characterized and protected by Law – makes these observatories an ‘astronomy reserve’ that has been opened by Spain to the international scientific community since the establishment of the International Treaty on Cooperation in Astrophysics in 1979.

Different time allocation committees (TACs) award the telescope time available at each installation. Seventy-five per cent of this time is generally allocated by the national community or consortia of the countries that own or operate the telescope. Five per cent is allocated by the International Scientific Committee (CCI) to large international teams carrying out major observational projects, and the remaining twenty percent is allocated to Spanish researchers by a TAC managed by the IAC. This time is the principal scientific return that the host country receives under the Agreements on Cooperation in Astrophysics and are therefore the most productive and lowest cost terrestrial scientific resources available to Spanish astrophysicists. The telescope time is the main service provided by the OT and ORM, as well as providing a first-class platform for installing, testing and operating state-of-the-art infrastructures for astrophysical research.

In representation of the Spanish State, the Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias (IAC) is responsible for the administration of this Singular Scientific and Technical Infrastructure (ICTS). The IAC provides both basic and advanced infrastructures to the international organizations, as well as managing the aforementioned 20% Spanish time. As a research centre of international prestige, the IAC contributes greatly to the scientific exploitation of these facilities.

Astrophysics in the Canaries began on the island of Tenerife, at 2,390 metres above sea level, above the “sea of clouds”. The first telescope was devoted to the study of the zodiacal light.

Teide Observatory

At the edge of the Caldera de Taburiente National Park, at 2,400 metres above sea level, on the island of La Palma, there are some of the best telescopes in the world, among them the Gran Telescopio Canarias (GTC).

Roque de los Muchachos Observatory

The mission of the Observatorios de Canarias, is to provide and maintain state-of-the-art observational facilities for pioneering research in astrophysics and cosmology, as well as ensuring the provision of natural conditions, and technological and logistical support within a framework of international collaboration. The Spanish Government has awarded the Observatorios de Canarias the distnguished status of Special Scientific and Technical Infrastructure (ICTS, according to its Spanish acronym)

The goal of the Observatorios de Canarias is to become one of the best astronomical reserves in the world, promoting the installation and operation of top level research infrastructures, permitting the Spanish scientific community to strengthen its leadership in astrophysics and favouring synergies with other major research infrastructures
