It’s impossible not to marvel at his stamina.

Tom Cruise showed off his incredible athleticism in new photos from the set of “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Two” in London on Sunday.

In photos obtained by The Post, Cruise, 61, can be seen sporting shaggy hair and a white shirt drenched in fake blood as he sprints across Westminster Bridge. Big Ben and the Palace of Westminster appear in the background in the action-packed shot.

While little is known about the film, which has been reported to serve as Cruise’s final appearance as Ethan Hunt, it can be assumed that Hunt will be forced to flee some sort of fancy gathering.

In addition to Cruise , several photos were captured of Parliament Square being barricaded off and filled with background actors dressed in army uniforms and helmets.

Many of the extras were spotted carrying prop guns as they milled around several army jeeps waiting for their next take.

Several fences that had been put up around the area had various warnings such as "Restricted Area," "Police security operation" and "Security checkpoint ahead."

Despite the seriousness of the scene, the “Jerry Maguire” actor — who is well known for doing his own stunts — was spotted laughing and chatting with the crew.

The eighth installment of the “Mission: Impossible” series , which stars Simon Pegg , Vanessa Kirby, Hayley Atwell and Pom Klementieff, is set to be released nearly two years after the first part , which was nominated for Best Sound and Visual Effects at the 2024 Oscars .

Cruise is well known for doing his own stunts.

Despite the rumors that both parts of the film were designed to serve as a send-off to Cruise’s character, director Christopher McQuarrie told the  “Light the Fuse” podcast that fans can’t believe everything they hear.

“Let me tell you, I’ve been working with Tom Cruise for 15 years and I cannot tell you the number of times I’ve been standing next to the man, witnessed an event and then read about it in the trades the next day and none of what they describe is actually true,” McQuarrie, 55, told the podcast.

“Mission: Impossible” is not the only franchise Cruise is reportedly working on at the moment.

According to  Puck News , the action star is also working on a third “Top Gun” film.

The new project would see the return of Cruise’s Lieutenant Pete “Maverick” Mitchell and  “Top Gun: Maverick”  co-stars Miles Teller and Glen Powell.

“Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Two” will hit theaters on May 23, 2025.

Mission impossible 8 set photos & video show tom cruise bloodied & running.

New photos and videos of the Mission: Impossible 8 set show Tom Cruise back in action as Ethan Hunt, with the star shown bloody and running.

  • New footage from the set of Mission: Impossible 8 shows Tom Cruise sprinting with blood on his clothes.
  • The scenes are being filmed in London, with one image showing a heavy military presence around Big Ben.
  • Mission: Impossible 8 has now filmed in locations including South Africa, the Arctic, and the Aegean Sea.

Mission: Impossible 8 star Tom Cruise is back as Ethan Hunt in new photos and videos from the movie's set. The end of Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning sets up an even bigger mission for Hunt, with the super spy and his team continuing their quest to take down the rogue AI known as the Entity. Franchise veteran Christopher McQuarrie is directing the upcoming sequel, which is expected to hit theaters next spring.

As the wait for the Mission: Impossible 8 release date continues, Navy shares new photos and videos from the set, showing Cruise sprinting and with blood on his clothes. The footage, which is available at the link above, shows the production underway in London by Big Ben, with the city having now appeared in several installments in the franchise. The context of the scene being filmed is not yet clear, but one photo shows a heavy military presence by the iconic London landmark.

What To Expect From Mission: Impossible 8

Where the dead reckoning sequel has filmed so far.

While the upcoming installment in the action franchise was originally going to be called Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part 2 , the underperformance of Part 1 at the box office reportedly led to a bit of a re-think for the sequel . So far, it's not clear whether the changes to the sequel go beyond its title (no replacement title has yet been revealed), but filming on the project has now been ongoing, on and off, for at least two years. Production was also hampered last year with the onset of the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes.

So far, filming reports have revealed that, like previous installments, Mission: Impossible 8 's story will be a globe-trotting one. The movie has so far filmed in various spots across the U.K., South Africa, the Arctic, and on an aircraft carrier in the Aegean Sea . The filming in South Africa involved Cruise clutching onto a small biplane as it flies upside down, while the filming in the Arctic suggests the movie will feature a trip to the Sevastopol submarine, which was sunk under the ice caps of the Bering Sea.

McQuarrie teased last year in an interview with Collider that Mission: Impossible 8 will feature underwater stunts that beat those in Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation .

Many Mission: Impossible 7 cast members are expected to return for the new movie, including Simon Pegg as Benji, Ving Rhames as Luther, and Haley Atwell as Grace. Rebecca Ferguson, however, is not expected to return as Isla after the character's death in the most recent sequel, but newcomers include Nick Offerman and Hannah Waddingham. While many questions remain about Mission: Impossible 8 , the latest photos and videos confirm it will feature the return of Cruise's iconic run.

Tom Cruise debuted a suave new look at the Oscars luncheon Monday.

The “Top Gun: Maverick” actor rubbed shoulders with Hollywood’s elite at the star-studded event at The Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, but despite the myriad of big names packed into one lavish room, Cruise’s striking coif and skin tone were the first thing celebrities noticed.

Cruise sported a much deeper tan than he’s known for, and paired it with a longer hairstyle that fans aren’t used to seeing on him.

Marking his first red carpet appearance in eight months, 60-year-old Cruise turned heads with his floppy locks.

He opted for a midnight blue bespoke three-piece suit by Brioni, which he paired with a lilac patterned tie.

In fact, his new appearance was even pointed out by eagle-eyed fans, some of whom even poked fun at his tan.

“Jamie Lee Curtis seeing Tom Cruise’s Trump-level spray tan up close,” tweeted one person alongside a snap of a shocked Jamie Lee Curtis embracing Cruise.

“Tom Cruise Spray Tan Dot Tumblr Dot Com,” another wrote .

The actor was seen mingling with nominees Curtis, Michelle Yeoh, Austin Butler, Angela Bassett, Steven Spielberg, Michelle Williams and Brendan Fraser at the event.

Cruise was invited to support his latest installment of the “Top Gun” franchise released last summer — which scooped up a Best Picture nomination.

The actor was all smiles as he shook hands with the film’s producer, Jerry Bruckheimer, before posing for pictures with “Everything, Everywhere All at Once” star Ke Huy Quan.

After the pair snapped a pic together, Cruise was asked to partake in a group selfie, for which he insisted on moving over to a spot with better lighting, according to the New York Times .

Elsewhere at the lunch, Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences president Janet Yang spoke about last year’s disastrous event as a result of the infamous Will Smith “slapgate.”

The organization, which votes on nominees, winners and hosts of the annual ceremony, said it will be “fully transparent” in the future .

“I’m sure you all remember we experienced an unprecedented event at the Oscars,” she said, according to Variety.

“What happened onstage was fully unacceptable and the response from our organization was inadequate.”

Tom Cruise’s life in pictures as he turns 60 – from teen actor to one of Hollywood’s biggest heavyweights

Tom Cruise Top Gun

It is a big weekend if your name is Tom Cruise and you’re a massive Hollywood heavyweight, as the action hero is celebrating his 60th birthday today.

He has a lot to celebrate at the moment, as Top Gun sequel Maverick is currently flying high at the box office, easily smashing through the $1billion mark worldwide.

That’s definitely a huge gift within itself.

There is no denying that he’s still at the top of his game, but how does he do it?

In honor of Tom’s milestone big day, we’ve taken a stroll down memory lane to relieve some of his best moments and see what makes the Cruiser the last of the Hollywood icons.

1962: Cruise was born in Syracuse, New York. His full name was Thomas Cruise Mapother IV, but he was shrewd enough to shorten it.

Rebecca De Mornay And Tom Cruise In 'Risky Business'

Suddenly, he stopped sounding like an absent-minded uncle in a Dickens novel and started sounding like a super-cool movie star.

1983: Risky Business. You may not remember much about this teen comedy drama, but everyone remembers Cruise being simultaneously silly and sexy as he dances around in his shirt, pants and socks. A star was born!

1989: Born On The Fourth of July. Cruise proved that he was more than a set of shiny teeth by playing Ron Kovic, Vietnam veteran turned anti-war activist.

Tom Cruise BORN ON THE FOURTH OF JULY

He earned the first of his three Oscar nominations, the last of which was for Magnolia in 2000. The last for now, that is …

1999: Eyes Wide Shut. Cruise and Nicole Kidman signed up for six months’ work on Stanley Kubrick’s erotic psychodrama, but they stuck it out for 15 months, hence Eyes Wide Shut holds the Guinness World Record for the longest ever unbroken film shoot.

Nicole Kidman Tom Cruise

Cruise is no quitter – although his marriage to Kidman broke down soon afterwards.

2000: Mission: Impossible 2. Cruise dangled by one hand from a cliff, 2000 feet above the Utah desert.

And that’s really him doing the dangling, even if he had a safety rope which was digitally erased.

Of course, the scene was hardly essential to the story, but it gave the Mission: Impossible series its raison d’etre: to show audiences a Hollywood legend doing his own insanely demanding stunts. A risky business, indeed.

Tom Cruise Katie Holmes

2005: The Sofa Incident. Here’s where things went a bit wrong. Cruise was on The Oprah Winfrey Show to promote War Of The Worlds, but he raved about Katie Holmes and jumped on Oprah’s sofa instead.

Between this loved-up gymnastics display and his attacks on psychiatry, Cruise acquired an unfortunate reputation for being a weirdo Scientologist.

Lesson learnt; he’s been a lot quieter about his private life ever since.

2007: Lions For Lambs. This smug political drama isn’t great, but it IS directed by Robert Redford, and it remains the most recent example of Cruise working with a really big-name director.

Young Cruise makes a point of ticking them off: Kubrick, Steven Spielberg, Oliver Stone, Michael Mann, etc. But now he prefers to be the boss himself.

Tom CruiseRobert Redford Lions for Lambs

Whoever the director may be, it’s Cruise’s vision of what constitutes an efficiently entertaining film that counts. Fair enough. If it weren’t for such control freakery, he probably wouldn’t have maintained his megastar status.

But wouldn’t it be exciting if he collaborated with a challenging auteur once again?

Tom Cruise Jack Reacher Never Go Back - 2016

2012: Jack Reacher. Cruise hasn’t made many iffy career choices, but deciding that he was the man to play Lee Child’s 6 ft 5 inch blonde vigilante was one of them.

2017: The Mummy. Okay, so this is another iffy choice. Let’s move swiftly on.

Still, the film was written and directed by Christopher McQuarrie, who has since made every instalment of Mission: Impossible, so at least Cruise got a trusty new creative partner out of the deal.

2022: Top Gun: Maverick. A sequel to the most 1980s-ish of all 1980s movies, released 36 years after the original?

Tom CruiseTop Gun

It should have been a disaster, but Cruise’s obsessive quality control paid off – and the fact that he hadn’t aged a day since the first film probably helped.

2022: Cannes Film Festival. During an on-stage Q&A, a French journalist asks Cruise why he does his own stunts.

Cruise’s reply: ‘No one asks Gene Kelly, why do you dance? Why do you do your own dancing?’

Yep, he’s passionate about what he does, all right.

TG:M has taken over $1billion at the box office, making it the year’s biggest cinema hit – and Cruise’s own highest grossing film.

Don’t bet against him winning that long-awaited Best Actor Oscar next year.

A Bloody Tom Cruise Is on the Run in New 'Mission: Impossible 8' Set Images

New set images and videos show Ethan Hunt in another dire scenario.

The Big Picture

  • New Mission: Impossible 8 set images show Tom Cruise running desperately in front of London's Houses of Parliament.
  • The movie was previously known as Dead Reckoning: Part Two and involves a significant time jump from the last film.
  • Christopher McQuarrie confirmed that Mission: Impossible 8 will conclude the story that began in Dead Reckoning .

Is it a Mission: Impossible movie if Tom Cruise isn't running? Hell, is it a Tom Cruise movie if Tom Cruise isn't running? Well, good news folks, if the latest set images from Mission: Impossible 8 (definitely not the final title) are anything to go by—we're getting some running done and, from the looks of it, Ethan Hunt isn't doing so good. Images posted on Twitter have shown off Cruise in full pelt in front of London's Houses of Parliament, with Big Ben looming large in the background, and looking a little worse for wear, with his shirt bloodied. What has the Entity done this time?

The movie, once known as Dead Reckoning - Part Two , has been back in production for a while in the UK, after the previous installment— Dead Reckoning —shot a large portion of the film in and around the Peak District and Derbyshire area, including an incredible steam train crash which saw the locomotive plummet into a quarry. Given the length of Cruise's hair, too, the film will obviously carry a significant time jump from the last film which will add an air of intrigue to the plot.

What Can We Expect from 'Mission: Impossible 8'?

While the film is no longer titled Part Two , its writer and director Christopher McQuarrie fully believes this is the concluding part of a story that began in Dead Reckoning , as he explained during an interview with Collider's Steve Weintraub at the film's premiere back in July.

"I knew I wanted to expand the cast, and I knew I wanted to give each one of those characters more to do, so I knew the movie was going to be bigger and longer than Fallout [ the previous movie]. And at which point I said, 'Why are we fighting this? Why are we going to try to jam this into two hours? Let's just break it in half and make it two movies.' That really was the rationale behind it being a two-part movie. It just it wasn't just that the story was bigger but that we wanted more emotion in the movie. At that time, the studio were actually very genuinely excited about it. And, you know, I think we were excited about it too. And then there were times when we were on set, and Tom would look at me, and he'd say, 'This was your idea. Just remember that.'”

The eighth film in the Mission: Impossible series is set to release in May 2025. Stay tuned to Collider for updates and check out Cruise's speedy retreat in video form below:

Pierce brosnan on possible aaron taylor-johnson casting as james bond: “i think the man has the chops”, tom cruise: deadline’s how they reached the top.

By Matt Grobar , Mike Fleming Jr

Tom Cruise

After soaring to the highest heights of his career with Top Gun: Maverick , Tom Cruise looks to surpass that with the Mission: Impossible franchise’s seventh outing, Dead Reckoning Part One . From the time he launched his now over 40-year career with an appearance in Endless Love , Cruise was “laser-focused” on achieving greatness, Val Kilmer recalls in his memoir, looking to become not only one of the most iconic and commercially successful actors of all time, but also perhaps the most athletic, regularly pulling off stunts that no one else would dare attempt. There will never be another one like him.

Here, we chart the methodical growth of a star who  has shown courage and pluck and mostly making strong choices along the way. That will include his greatest ever stunt, which will be to head up to space with frequent collaborator Doug Liman and shoot the first narrative feature that way.

Taps (1981)

tom cruise images today

In a cast that included Tim Hutton, George C. Scott and Sean Penn, Cruise got his ‘who’s that guy?’ moment as a gung-ho military student who goes out in a blaze of gunfire. “When I made Taps , really my first film experience, I remember laying there at night in the hotel room thinking, I love this so much. I wanted it since I was four, and there I was, thinking if I did my best on Taps , maybe I could do this for the rest of my life.” Said Penn about his mate: “Tom was so, what’s the word, sincere a guy, that I overlooked his talent. I will tell you that I loved him and thought he had no chance in this business. Because he was just so nice, and seemingly naive at the time. Of course, he’s become this force as a professional. As good as he was in Taps , I totally underestimated his talent, the things that came later which are really extraordinary, and he’s really a machine.”

The Outsiders (1983)

tom cruise images today

Cruise was a supporting player in the Francis Ford Coppola-directed adaptation of the S.E. Hinton novel, but the actor was envied by every member of this killer cast. This was a coterie of young stars in the making — Patrick Swayze, C. Thomas Howell, Ralph Macchio, Emilio Estevez and Matt Dillon — and Coppola told Deadline that they were being offered roles in ensemble films. But it was Cruise who’d landed a true lead in Risky Business , the role every one of them wanted. Cruise removed a cap from his front tooth to convincingly play a greaser kid from the wrong side of the Tulsa tracks, and he endured “sugar shock” from three days of cake eating for one memorable scene. Cruise said the film taught him comedic timing, which would come in handy.

Risky Business (1983)

tom cruise images today

Joel Goodsen was Cruise’s ticket to the A list. Approached for “every killer-murderer part” after Taps , Cruise fought hard to convince Paul Brickman he was right for the precocious affluent high schooler with Ivy League dreams. From sinking his father’s Porsche 928 – “Which one of you is the U-boat captain?” said the mechanic who fished out and fixed the car – to making love on a train (Rebecca De Mornay), to the youthful spirit lip-synching of Old Time Rock N’ Roll in his skivvies, to outwitting Guido, the killer pimp and showing entrepreneurial chops as a brothel owner that gets him into Princeton, Risky Business was a tour de force that put Cruise atop the young actor lists.

All the Right Moves (1983)

tom cruise images today

Cruise tapped his experience as a high school football player for the sports drama about a youth whose hopes for a college scholarship and a trip out of the steel mill is jeopardized by a clash with his head coach. Drawn to the project by Michael Chapman’s work as the cinematographer of Raging Bull , Cruise began a tradition of doing his own stunts and wound up at the hospital with a concussion. He also used his growing clout to appeal to producers on co-star Lea Thompson’s behalf to have nude scenes cut or altered to the point where she’d be comfortable. Just one of the instances in which he would prove himself a natural leader on set.

Top Gun (1986)

tom cruise images today

Top Gun turned Cruise into one of Hollywood’s biggest stars. Everything clicked. “Tony Scott was firing on all cylinders. Simpson-Bruckheimer had just produced Beverly Hills Cop ,” Cruise remembers. “It was an exciting time.” Cruise helped the film broaden beyond a domestic hit by throwing himself into the overseas marketing. When he grew up, his mom struggled to make ends meet, and Cruise dreamed of visiting the exotic locations he watched in movies. He pressed studios to let him travel to promote films at a time when overseas revenues weren’t deemed that important. It became the playbook for big stars, but Cruise really just wanted to see the world. Producer Jerry Bruckheimer told Deadline that it became impossible to shoot the actors flying in those jets, because they would vomit every time. Only Cruise was able to spit out lines instead of his breakfast.

The Color of Money (1986)

tom cruise images today

Another important step for Cruise, who got to work with two legends, Paul Newman and director Martin Scorsese. He played Vincent Lauria, the cocky young pool hustler mentored by Fast Eddie Felson (Paul Newman) and rekindles something in the pool player role that helped launch Newman’s star in The Hustler . Cruise bonded with Newman over their love of fast cars. “He was a helluve driver,” Cruise once told me. “I remember one day we were out at Willow Springs, and we brought out some stock cars, some big stuff from NASCAR. Every time we were around each other, we’d race cars against eath other…I remember this one day where I was driving well and thinking, finally, I got the old man. I came off this corner, thinking, I’m going to get him at the finish line, and he ripped past me. And as he went past me, he gave me the finger. And I don’t think I ever laughed so hard.”

Rain Main (1988)

tom cruise images today

Dustin Hoffman won the Oscar playing autistic savant Raymond, and was able to immerse in the affectations and eccentricities of his character. Playing his conniving brother Charlie who kidnaps his sibling to drive to LA to claim an inherence and bonds with his bro on the road trip, Cruise wasn’t nominated. To director Barry Levinson, “Tom had the harder job,” he says. “It was a difficult role because he basically had to drive the movie. Otherwise, Raymond would just be content to sit in a motel. His obligation is to continually drive it and push him, and at the same time not exhaust the audience with a one-beat, ‘C’mon, we’re going.’ It was a very hard role, and he never got the credit he deserved for that film. The two worked really well with each other. I know it sounds like it can’t be true, but it was as good a relationship between the two guys and in terms of what we were trying to accomplish. They were both contributing, and Tom was the one who had to push this movie all the time and I think Dustin would acknowledge that. You keep slowly seeing the changes, as he becomes more emotionally attached to his brother.” Many of the best scenes were ad-libbed, and the Best Picture winner was important in establishing that Cruise had chops to go with starpower.

Born on the Fourth of July (1989)

tom cruise images today

Oliver Stone had volunteered to serve in Vietnam, and came back injured and disillusioned, but a filmmaker with a purpose. He found his voice in addressing his war experience in Ron Kovic, the Long Islander who bought into the war, came back paralyzed, went through a fresh hell in a system that neglected wounded vets, and galvanized into an anti-war activist. Stone told me that the film kept falling apart and it crushed him to tell Kovic each time, until Cruise enlisted. “When I met Ron Kovic to write Born on the Fourth of July in ’77, I found somebody … now, I hadn’t done Platoon yet, so I had written Born back in ’77. But when I met him, I said, ‘This guy is more what I think I’m looking for. This is the return home. This is as stark as it can get.’ I went with his return, and that kind of vitiated the need to do my return.” Cruise gave one of his most transformative and emotionally vivid performances, which drew his first Oscar nomination. Cruise would say he was looking for “a real test” to determine if he was truly “any good” as an actor. And he committed to this “defining” moment fully, remaining in his wheelchair as much as possible during post-war scenes and delving deep into the psychology of a hero who felt his country had let him down. “My head was shaved, I’d lost weight, I was exhausted. And I got into that mind-set, and I saw it in Ron’s eyes,” Cruise once said. “You couldn’t fake it. You had to go there. When Ron got angry…he wanted to just explode. And I found it hard to disassociate those moments. It just became the world.”

A Few Good Men (1992)

tom cruise images today

Cruise didn’t shrink when his JAG lawyer character went head-to-head with Jack Nicholson’s grizzled colonel character in the iconic courtroom scene from this adaptation of Aaron Sorkin’s play directed by Rob Reiner. Said Reiner: “I’d never met a young actor with as much dedication as he had to the process. He worked his ass off in rehearsals. He was not only on time, but early every day, and always had his lines nailed. Never had I seen a young actor with a work ethic like this guy. He may tell you behind the scenes that he was intimidated by Jack, but I never saw it. When Jack came and we had the first reading of the script, he came fully loaded to work, with a performance at the table. In a table read, you’re usually just kind of marking it. And when Jack got into his performance, it just sent a message to every other young actor. Kiefer Sutherland, Tom, Demi [Moore] and Kevin Bacon and Kevin Pollak, everybody involved knew, you better step up here. We’re not messing around. Tom was always right there with it…people don’t realize how great an actor this guy is.”

The Firm (1993)

tom cruise images today

A huge hit for Cruise, but also intriguing is how his kinship with The Firm director Sydney Pollack was so integral to why Cruise was so gung ho to make Top Gun: Maverick, the film Spielberg said saved the movie business after Covid. “I always wanted to fly and that was one of the reasons I did Top Gun,” Cruise told me for the Playboy Interview. “I just never had the time to learn. Then I met Sydney Pollack. I was 19 or 20, and he was editing Tootsie at the time and I’d just finished Risky Business. I got a meeting with Sydney, it was supposed to be 20 minutes and it ended up being over two hours. Outside of my admiration of him as a filmmaker, we talked about a big mutual interest that we had in aviation because I knew he flew. Sydney became a lifelong friend, and when we finished The Firm together in ’93 or ‘94, he gave me flying lessons as the wrap gift. He said, I know how much you love flying. Take the time, right now, and do it, because otherwise you’ll never get to it. I had two kids by then, and I worked all the time. In a few months I had my instrument rating, and a little while after that I had my commercial rating. I trained mostly in aerobatics, because I wanted to fly the P-51. I was doing rolls, loops, all kinds of aerobatic maneuvers. My first airplane was called a Pitts, and then I flew a Marchetti. That’s a Third World air force trainer they use in the Top Gun schools for air to air combat. This was all in preparation to fly the Warburg, the P-51. I searched all over the world for my P-51 and found it in 2000.”

Interview with the Vampire (1994)

tom cruise images today

Author Anne Rice was publicly critical when director Neil Jordan set Cruise to play her most famous character creation. The bisexual vampire Lestat was as charming as he could be cruel, as he turns both Brad Pitt and a young Kirsten Dunst into creatures of the night to form a family. Director Neil Jordan thought of Cruise for the part given parallels between the lives of the character and the actor, who likewise has to “retreat to the shadows” and “live in a spectral kind of world” given his immense fame. Rice changed her mind when she saw the result, and publicly became a big fan of Cruise’s performance, for which he learned to play piano and hung upside down before scenes to help along the creation of their undead looks. “I learned from the Anne Rice scenario,” Cruise told me later in a Playboy interview. “I should have called and sat down with her first, like I did on Born on the Fourth of July . I sat with Ron Kovic and said, I’ve been offered this; how do you feel about it? It was really a job interview.”

Mission: Impossible (1996)

tom cruise images today

The film adaptation of the old CBS spy series might have seemed like just another job, but at closer inspection, Cruise had been an action hero in training since boyhood. He sold greeting cards door to door, cut grass and raked leaves in Canada and Kentucky to buy his first motorcycle at 12, which he crashed doing stunts. A double gymnastic flip left him with a broken ankle (he’d break another on M:I6 leaping between buildings). Cruise became meticulous in stunt planning, but always made his directors and studio execs nervous. “When I was climbing at Mojave for Mission: Impossible 2 , Sherry Lansing was running Paramount and I held back sending them until we’d finished the sequence because I love her and didn’t want to give her a heart attack. Then we sent the rushes and normally Sherry would call right away to discuss them. I never heard from her on those. Finally, when I got back it was like, Tom, we’re not even going to talk about this.” Luckily for her, Lansing retired by the time Cruise hung off an ascending Airbus A400 airplane, or scaling the outside of a Dubai skyscraper, 124 floors up.

Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol (2011)

tom cruise images today

It is still hard to even look at photos of Cruise scaling the perimiter of the Burj Khalifa, 124 floors high in Dubai. Cruise shugged when I asked him about it, saying that if he’d done the stunt 20 floors up and fell, he’d die. Why not an extra 100 floors? But the truth is that it was a nail biter of a day for Cruise, director Brad Bird, and the stunt team. But their meticulous attention to detail won the day. “I want it to be better than my director Brad Bird designed it, but I don’t have the level of blood flow through my body and I’m getting lightheaded because my body’s not getting enough oxygen,” Cruise told me in the Playboy interview. “And I’m hitting the side of the building. I rehearsed it in knee and elbow pads and a helmet the night before, but I couldn’t wear pads for the shot.  So I’m going off, and I’ll never forget; the sun is going down and we’re we’ve convinced the building now to knock out not just two windows but I think 27 windows. Originally they were worried about what it would do to the structure of the building, the pressure differentials through the building. But we’re like, C’mon, man, we’re making a movie! It’s Hollywood. And by the end of that day they were just ripping windows out. I was worried the whole time. The height is what it is, but is the cable gonna hold me if it gets kinked? Holding onto the building gave me a level of false security, but now I’m pushing away from the building, and I immediately realize, shit, I’ve got crosswinds. We’re so high that even a light crosswind would change my trajectory as I’m jumping across. I’m arching back trying to make it look good, but I’m facing out and I have no reference to the building. I have to know when to swing my legs around or it ruins the shot. I want to hold position as long as I can, and then at the last second catch the building. But I’m swinging in a pendulum arc, couldn’t sense the building and man, I slammed right into it at high speed and almost knocked myself out. Luckily I caught it right at the last second with my foot and came in with my elbow and knees. I try finding visual references, but it’s the highest building around and if my head’s looking down, it changes the trajectory of the arc. So I just had to start feeling when am I at the apex, when to adjust right at the last second and have enough energy to snap my body around to catch myself into the side of the building. It was one of those things where you just have to will it to go right.”

Cameron Crowe’s film about a sports agent who finds his conscience in an existential crisis journey has many classic lines that could have become groaners. But it was the last scene that gave Crowe the biggest fear he might cross the line, until Cruise begged for a shot at pulling it off. “Oh, Tom couldn’t wait for that scene,” Crowe says. “I was a little nervous about some of the lines, like, ‘You complete me.’ It’s a slippery slope; if you lean wrong into a line like that, it’d probably be the first thing you cut. But he said, ‘I want to say I love you in this movie, and I want to say it with that line.’ And by the time he got to it, it was two in the morning, at the end of a long week. Tom surprised the women because we didn’t tell them that he would be there to do the scene with them that day. In he comes, and in the most loving way, this heavyweight was ready for the knockout. He gently crushed it. The ladies were crying. The crew members were crying. And Renée [Zellweger] was a mess. He just took great pleasure in being able to deliver a line that he knew I was on the fence about. He’d said, ‘Just give me a shot, man. You’ll see if I got it, or if I didn’t.’ And, you know, I’m still just so proud of it.” Crowe also recalled the courtesy Cruise showed to the youth who first had the role made famous by Jonathan Lipnicki, but who’d felt too much pressure and bowed out. Cruise stayed in touch with the boy and when Crowe later asked why, he said, “I just don’t want that guy growing up, looking at movies and feeling disappointed about what happened. I want him to love movies.” Wow.

Eyes Wide Shut (1999)

Cruise set a Guinness World Record for longest continual film shoot 15 months shooting the Stanley Kubrick film. He did it to work with then-wife Nicole Kidman, but also to immerse himself in Kubrick. He played William Harford, a Manhattan doctor drawn into a sexual underworld following his wife’s admission of dissatisfaction in the bedroom, finding that Kubrick played mind games with him and Kidman in order to draw the most out of their performances. The filmmaker made them confront real personal issues in joint therapy sessions and prevented them from communicating during production, blurring the line between reality and fiction. The stresses of the process reportedly led Cruise to develop an ulcer, though he wouldn’t let it distract him from this opportunity to work with a filmmaking icon. “I didn’t like playing Dr. Bill. I didn’t like him. This guy’s holding everything in for such a long time. And he never broke out,” said Cruise. “It was unpleasant. But I would have absolutely kicked myself if I hadn’t done this.” Many believed this was an apprenticeship toward Cruise moving to the director’s chair, but that hasn’t happened yet.

Magnolia (1999)

Cruise found a character like none other on his resume in Frank T.J. Mackey, a vulgar motivational speaker teaching men to “Seduce and Destroy,” In Paul Thomas Anderson’s surreal mosaic of Southern California stories. He came to inhabit the ponytail-wearing purveyor of phrases like “Respect the cock, tame the c**t” as a fan of Anderson’s Boogie Nights who responded to the script’s strange comedic bent. “I like humor. I thought it was dark and funny,” he said. “And that’s what I focused on, working on…the bitter humor of that.” But if Mackey was an outlandish type, he was made human by a pain regarding his relationship with his father, which led up to a staggering deathbed scene. Cruise landed another Golden Globe and Oscar nom for his work.

Minority Report (2002)

While Steven Spielberg initially looked to direct Cruise in Rain Man , he found his long coveted first opportunity to work with the actor on this noirish sci-fi actioner based on a Philip K. Dick novella. It was Cruise who brought the story to the filmmaker, viewing it as a vehicle to meditate on the emergence of Big Tech and its reach into society in “very cinematic” fashion. He stars as John Anderton, a police chief living in the year 2054, who oversees a department known as Precrime, which is able to identify and arrest future criminals before they’ve done a single thing. All is well, of course, until Anderton, himself, is accused.

The Last Samurai (2003)

Cruise delivered a performance of potent emotional depth in the Ed Zwick-directed drama. Nathan Algren was a veteran haunted by his participation in both the Civil War and the American Indian Wars who comes to a deep reverence for the Japanese after being sent overseas to help westernize the army of the Meiji Restoration government. Cruise looked at the project as his epic adventure film in the vein of Lawrence of Arabia , not only studying American and Japanese history for the role, but also learning the Japanese language and how to wield a sword and packing on over 20 pounds of muscle for scenes in heavy armor. “I spent a year training six hours a day, seven days a week to be able to handle the sword, and do it on uneven terrain because I didn’t want to blow my knees out. You’ve got to build the body up for impact. I remember trying to put my shirt on at one point and couldn’t, my forearms had gotten so big.” Cruise’s dedication had much to do with the samurai’s codes of honor. “This movie has a lot of adventure and battle scenes, but I wouldn’t have made it if it didn’t explore the samurai’s code. The purity of that is stronger than any battle scene we could have dreamt up.”

Collateral (2004)

“Millions of galaxies of hundreds of millions of stars and a speck on one in a blink — that’s us,” says an existentially-minded Cruise in this Michael Mann-directed action thriller. In one of his most memorable villain roles, he here plays Vincent, the gray-haired hitman who brings Jamie Foxx’s unsuspecting Los Angeles taxi driver Max along for a ride he’ll never forget. Max something in the sociopath that leads to the assassin’s spiral, but not before some memorable action scenes including a tour de force in a nightclub, where Cruise’s character adapts to a chaotic crowd situation to take out his mark. “What Tom did, those are real techniques and there was a lot of training with my friend Mick Gould, who was the head of close-quarter combat training for the British SAS,” Mann said. “The scene in the alley, there’s no cut in that scene… It came down to doing the work. There was nothing he was doing that wasn’t established close-quarter combat moves that came from months of training. That included blending in. Obviously, people know Tom, but I wanted him to feel what it would be like to blend in, to mix with people and have conversations. He went to Central Market and trained to be a FedEx delivery guy. He said to me, ‘They’re gonna know it’s me.’ I said, ‘No, they’ll see the sign that says FedEx, and you’ll wear sunglasses and a cap and carry that portable computer that drivers used to have when they made deliveries.’ Tom went in and delivered something to a liquor stand and sat down and struck up a conversation with a couple people and insinuated himself into the lives of others. There was a lot of psychological training he did. Tom is a dream. He sees the adventure in what we do, just the way I do, and I imagine other directors do. He just goes for it.”

War of the Worlds (2005)

Reteaming with Spielberg on this sci-fi action thriller based on the novel by H.G. Wells, Cruise here returned to hero mode as Ray Ferrier, a Brooklyn longshoreman who does whatever it takes to protect his children in the midst of an alien invasion. Commonly discussed as a response to the terrors of 9/11, this film sparked the enthusiasm of the filmmaker-actor duo, to the extent that they pushed work on other projects — Munich for Spielberg and Mission: Impossible III for Cruise — to make War their priority. The Paramount title scripted by by Josh Friedman and David Koepp brought the latter his biggest opening weekend up until Top: Gun Maverick came around.

Edge of Tomorrow (2014)

The actor brought the basic premise of Groundhog’s Day into a sci-fi action world as Major William Cage, a military PR officer caught in a time loop until he can fend off the advances of an alien race, starring opposite Emily Blunt in Warner Bros’ adaptation of the Hiroshi Sakurazaka novel All You Need Is Kill . Director Doug Liman had the actor wearing tactical outfits so heavy, he’d have to be suspended by chains in between takes to protect his joints. Cruise responded to the dark humor of the material, joking with regard to his character, caught between life and death, “It’s fun coming up with new ways to kill yourself.” Said McQuarrie: “They were extremely heavy, cumbersome, took 10 minutes to get on and off and was too heavy for him to sit in between takes. He would get out of the armor and go, we’re wasting all this time, me getting in and out of this suit. So, Tom gets this idea that, between setups, it would save time if, instead of getting in and out of his suit, we converted a child’’ swing set into something with hooks that he could hang from, in between setups.”

Top Gun: Maverick (2022)

Top Gun: Maverick

On the first Top Gun, Cruise was the only cast member who didn’t lose his lunch while filming dialogue scenes inside those roaring jets. Mindful of that unpleasant experience, he made it his mission to make sure the new crop of actors playing Top Gun pilots in the sequel fared better.

“We learned on the first one,” said producer Jerry Bruckheimer. “He was the only one we got good footage on; we couldn’t use the footage on the other actors because he was the only one who didn’t throw up. So, Tom designed a flying program for all the actors this time. It took months to do this. First, they went up in a single engine prop plane, just to get a feel for flying. Then, an aerobatic prop plane, and then a jet, and once they were comfortable in that jet, he put them in the F-18. Tom designed [the process] himself to acclimate the actors to the G forces they would experience.” He also was a mentor to the hotshot young actors who probably reminded him of himself during the original Top Gun.

“I remember one day on the carrier, when Tom was sitting with these young actors, most of them just starting their careers,” director Joseph Kosinski said. “Miles Teller has a lot under his belt, but the rest were new. For them, every day was like a master class, and he would make time for them every day. He would sit down and have these impromptu sessions with the actors, either to talk about the scenes we were shooting that day, the technical aspects of shooting an aerial sequence, or broader advice, like how to build a career. I remember Tom asked Glen (Powell), what kind of career do you want? Glen said, ‘I want your career, Tom.’ So, Tom said, ‘How do you think I got that?’ Glen said, ‘By choosing great roles.’ And Tom said, ‘No. That’s not how I did it. I did it by choosing great films. Then, I took the roles and made them the best I could.’ That advice blew Glen’s mind. If you look at Tom’s career, that’s exactly what he did. He chose great films and directors he admired. Regardless of the size of the role, especially on a movie like Taps. And then he created something with it, made the role his own. That’s something these younger actors hadn’t thought about and can only get from someone who spent 30 years as a movie star.”

Val Kilmer on the Tom Cruise 'Top Gun: Maverick' reunion, that final hug: 'Straight from the heart'

tom cruise images today

"Top Gun: Maverick" has thrilled record-breaking theater audiences with jet action and throwbacks to the original  "Top Gun."

But the beating heart of Tom Cruise's screen return as Pete "Maverick" Mitchell after 36 years is the emotional meeting with one-time "Top Gun" pilot rival Tom  "Iceman" Kazansky, played by Val Kilmer.

On screen, Iceman is now Admiral Kazansky , who has spent his Navy career looking after the rebellious Maverick and is near the end of his life due to an unspecified illness. The real performance comes from the two superstars who shot to worldwide fame with 1986's  "Top Gun" and are reunited in the long-awaited sequel.

Cruise, 59, has remained one of the world's last movie superstars, while the once famously mercurial leading man Kilmer, 62, battled throat cancer in the 2010s that required a tracheotomy which still greatly impacts his speaking voice.

There have been many teary eyes watching the "Maverick" reunion, including from Kilmer.

"I was very moved the first time I saw it. Almost 40 years is a long time for a reunion," Kilmer tells USA TODAY over email of the scene. "We laughed all day. Tom is great and surprisingly funny!!"

Val Kilmer begged: To be in ‘Top Gun’ sequel and other revelations from his new memoir

Secrets to 'Top Gun: Maverick':  Epic dogfight football scene needed spray tans, protein bars and panic workouts

"Maverick" director Joseph Kosinski says the scene's depth was boosted by real emotions.

"It's a long friendship. They were both there at their career beginnings with the original 'Top Gun.' I'm sure there was a little bit of a rivalry back then, just like the characters," says Kosinski. "But for both to be back in this movie, it was a really special moment. There was so much joy."

Kilmer says he was gunning for a reunion as soon as the sequel was announced three decades after the original "Top Gun."

"I called the agent immediately," Kilmer says. "Yes, 'Top Gun' has all the perfect elements for a sequel."

Kilmer, who was indifferent to earning his "Top Gun" role in his original audition, wrote In his 2020 memoir  "I’m Your Huckleberry"  that he pleaded for the "Maverick" part: "As the Temptations sang in the heyday of Motown soul, ‘ain’t too proud to beg.’ The producers went for it and Cruise went for it.' "

Kosinski says it was Kilmer who suggested the idea of Iceman serving as the high-ranking mentor, discussing the part with himself, Cruise, and producer Jerry Bruckheimer.

"It is nice to see Iceman reach such success in the career he loved," Kilmer says of his new admiral status. "It's a good story arc. And it was very exciting to be back at it with Tom."

In the scene, instructor Maverick is called to Iceman's house to discuss his pilot recruits, including Bradley "Rooster" Bradshaw (Miles Teller), the troubled pilot son of Maverick's late BFF Nick "Goose" Bradshaw (Anthony Edwards).

Kilmer, wearing a sweater and a scarf, types most of his "Maverick" dialogue to Cruise on a computer keyboard, including asking, "How's my wingman?" - a follow-up to Iceman's final line to his rival in the original, "You can be my wingman, anytime."

But as the "Maverick" scene deepens, Iceman eventually speaks, saying, "The Navy needs you Maverick, they (the pilots) need you."

The scene evolved to the speaking finale, says Kosinski. "It ends up being more powerful when (Kilmer) speaks at the end of the scene. Those words carry more weight," says Kosinski.

"It changed every day in rehearsals," says Kilmer. "They made the right choice in the end."

The final hug between the two onscreen was "straight from the heart," says Kilmer. "I love Tom. We’ve always gotten along great."

There is a moment of levity as the two argue over who was a better pilot since Iceman won the Top Gun Trophy in the original.

"One can always use a laugh," says Kilmer who makes it clear he's the ace. "There can only be one Top Gun..."

Kilmer, who starred with his daughter Mercedes in the 2020 crime drama "Pay Dirt," says he's well healthwise and looking forward to more work.

"I’m feeling strong and excited to play any chance I get," Kilmer says.

At the Oscar Nominees Luncheon, a Crowd in Cruise Control

The “Top Gun: Maverick” star and producer is mobbed as Austin Butler, Angela Bassett, Ke Huy Quan and others angle to chat with him.

Seen in profile, Austin Butler, in an open-necked shirt and jacket, is face-to-face with a very tan Tom Cruise, in a purple tie and blue suit jacket.

For the privileged few embarking on an Oscar campaign, the path to a nomination asks you to hobnob with so many of the same people that over the course of many months, your competitors can begin to feel like classmates.

But on Monday afternoon, at a luncheon held in Beverly Hills for this year’s Oscar nominees, the arrival of a new student caused quite a stir.

That would be Tom Cruise, nominated this year as a producer of the megahit best-picture contender “ Top Gun: Maverick .” He was among the first notable names to walk into the ballroom of the Beverly Hilton. The 60-year-old star had sat out both the Golden Globes and the Critics Choice Awards this season, so many of his fellow nominees were encountering him for the first time. Before long, the ballroom had turned into a massive meet-and-greet.

“I love you, I love you, oh my God!” said the “Everything Everywhere All at Once” star Ke Huy Quan , who hopped in place, exclaiming, “I want a picture with this man!” before seizing a selfie with Cruise. Director Guillermo del Toro went over for an embrace, as did the nominated actors Brendan Fraser, Angela Bassett and Michelle Williams . Cruise even posed for pictures with Steven Spielberg , a once-frequent collaborator whom the star has not been publicly photographed with in over a decade.

The nominees luncheon is supposed to be an egalitarian affair where big stars and behind-the-scenes technicians are on equal footing, but there was no mistaking Cruise as the ballroom’s top dog: He had the gravitational pull of the sun and its burnt-orange countenance, too. Any of the nominees who might have pulled focus from Cruise had declined to attend: Original-song contenders Lady Gaga and Rihanna were busy with other obligations (including, for the latter, a just-concluded Super Bowl stint ), and even surprise best-actress nominee Andrea Riseborough was missing in action.

Still, simply making it to Cruise took some time: In the schmoozy hour before lunch was served, he was so mobbed by his fellow nominees that he was hardly able to move more than a few feet. I watched for a while as “Elvis” star Austin Butler drifted with slow, inexorable determination toward Cruise, who finally pulled the younger man toward him by clamping a hand on his shoulder like a stapler. For several minutes, they were locked in such a tight bro-embrace that it was impossible to discern what they were talking about (or, more important, whether Butler was still speaking in his “Elvis” drawl ).

So instead, I made my way to “Top Gun: Maverick” producer Jerry Bruckheimer, who observed the scene serenely just a few feet away. “It’s my first time at the luncheon,” said the newly nominated producer, who’s better known for making explosive action movies than Oscar fare. “After 50 years in the business, I finally get here.”

It was not the first time at the luncheon for songwriter Diane Warren, who has been nominated for an Oscar 13 times before and is back in contention this year for the song “Applause,” from the film “Tell It Like a Woman.”

“It’s my favorite day,” Warren said. “No one’s a loser yet, everybody’s a winner.” I noted that Warren had received an honorary Oscar in November, and asked whether it had dimmed her desire to win a competitive statuette. “No, I still want to win,” she said, grinning. “He wants a friend!”

As the nominees and their guests took their seats to nosh on mushroom risotto, the academy president, Janet Yang, came to the stage and addressed the fallout from the organization’s handling of the Will Smith slap at last year’s ceremony.

“It was inadequate,” Yang said. “We learned from this that the academy must be fully transparent and accountable in our actions, and particularly in times of crisis, we must act swiftly, compassionately and decisively.”

One unrelated tweak has already been made: Unlike last year, when eight below-the-line Oscars were presented just before the telecast began, Yang promised that each category would be aired live during the March 12 telecast. Because of that, Yang pleaded with the nominees to keep their speeches short: “We need to be sensitive to our running time,” she said. “This is live television, after all.”

With that settled, the nominees were called one by one to the front of the stage, where they would pose together for one massive “class photo.” The first name announced was Jamie Lee Curtis , who had earned her first Oscar nomination this year for “Everything Everywhere All at Once.”

“I’ve been acting since I was 19 and I’m 64 — do the math,” Curtis told me. “That’s many years of watching this photograph being taken.” Her late parents, the actors Tony Curtis and Janet Leigh, had both been Oscar nominees. “To be connected through this legacy of their work and my work and now being included here, it’s very powerful,” she said.

Eventually, with all the nominees assembled,   the producer and academy governor DeVon Franklin counted down to a flashbulb — pop! — then counted down again as the academy photographer took another picture. “All right, three more,” Franklin said.

“I’ve got one more expression,” shouted best-actor nominee Colin Farrell (“The Banshees of Inisherin”).

Moments earlier, Farrell had been in an animated conversation with Warren, who was standing on the riser behind him. When the pictures were finished and the attendees started to make their way out of the ballroom, I asked Warren what they had discussed.

“We talked about how we both did very badly at school,” she said, “and now here we are, at the coolest graduation picture ever.”

James Corden and Tom Cruise perform on ‘The Lion King’ stage for their final ‘Late Late Show’ skit

THE LATE LATE SHOW WITH JAMES CORDEN

Tom Cruise has gone from “All the Right Moves” to all the right notes.

Cruise joined James Corden April 27 on the final episode of his “The Late Late Show” by performing alongside him in a production of “The Lion King” at the Pantages Theatre in Hollywood.

The bit opened with Corden recruiting a reluctant Cruise to take part in the show, noting that the two of them had pulled off some amazing stunts together when Cruise has appeared on the program.

“In the eight years that I’ve hosted ‘The Late Late Show,’ we’ve been skydiving, you’ve flown me upside down, and today you’re going to enter my world, alright?” Corden said.

Corden then introduced Cruise to the "Lion King" cast and the pair did some exercises to prepare, including dancing to the “Mission: Impossible” theme song and using some of the character costumes to recreate the famous “You can’t handle the truth” scene from “A Few Good Men.”

THE LATE LATE SHOW WITH JAMES CORDEN

Cruise also gave a spirited pre-show speech to the cast. Then, the curtain went up and Corden and Cruise walked onto the stage from the back of the theater. After they finished their part, Cruise thought they were done, but Corden rallied him to keep it up.

The duo then returned to the stage, with the curtain lifting up to show them, prompting the audience to hoot and holler and in delight.

“Hakuna Matata. What a wonderful phrase,” Corden, as Timon, said.

“Hakuna Matata, ain’t no passing craze,” Cruise, as Pumbaa, half-sang, half-spoke.

They then launched into a song and dance of “Hakuna Matata” while the audience cheered and Cruise later tried to hit a high note belting out the line, “When I was a young warthog!”

They wrapped up their song to a thunderous round of applause and a standing ovation from some people in the audience. The crowd went nuts again when they came out to take their bows after the performance ended.

Later, the two had a funny moment when Corden confronted Cruise about how he’ll “find yourself another late night host” to promote his future projects.

THE LATE LATE SHOW WITH JAMES CORDEN

“When ‘Mission: Impossible 12’ comes out, you’re not going to think of me. You’re going to be off base jumping with Bowen Yang,” he said in mock anger.

“I’m not the one turning my back on everything that we have, everything that we’ve created,” Cruise fired back. “This is your last show. You did this to us.”

Cruise then went off to have drinks with some of “The Lion King” cast, but as he sat at a table, he began to sing “Can You Feel the Love Tonight,” with Corden still sitting in the theater, joining in for an unlikely duet. A montage of their moments on “The Late Late Show” played on the screen while they reunited on top of a building, continuing to sing.

As Corden apologized for their tiff, Cruise told him to "shut up" while referencing “Jerry Maguire.”

“You had me at hello,” he said.

“I love you, Tom,” Corden said.

“I know," Cruise said, as he walked away to a waiting helicopter while the “Mission: Impossible” music played, leaving Corden stranded on the roof.

Tom Cruise flashes muscular abs while hanging out at Hollywood landmark

Tom Cruise knows a thing or two about staying in shape.

Cruise, 61, showed off a glimpse of his toned abs while scaling the famous Hollywood sign on Saturday across a stretch of the Santa Monica Mountains in Los Angeles.

The "Mission Impossible" star hopped on top of the large white letters with a few film crew friends and lifted his black T-shirt for a quick snap.

It is not clear what Cruise was working on to get the shot, but he is known for performing his own death-defying stunts as one of Hollywood's most coveted actors.

Paramount Pictures announced in October that the eighth installment of "Mission: Impossible" would be pushed back by one year.

The studio cited the SAG-AFTRA strike as one of the reasons for halting production and moved the release date from June 28, 2024 to May 23, 2025.

‘MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE’ STAR TOM CRUISE DEFIES AGE WITH DANGEROUS STUNTS: EXPERTS

It is not the first time Cruise has faced production problems on his films, especially with the action-packed "Mission: Impossible" franchise, where he stars and performs his own stunts as agent Ethan Hunt.

Production came to a grinding halt on "Mission: Impossible – Fallout" in 2017 when Cruise broke his ankle while performing a stunt where he jumped between buildings. He got the shot and went back to filming despite not being fully healed.

The following installment, "Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One," was shut down twice due to the pandemic. In addition, Cruise faced scrutiny for leaked audio where he chastised crew members for not adhering to social distancing rules.

Forbes reported that Cruise paid $700,000 for the cast and crew to live on cruise ships, essentially creating a safe environment for the team to work without risking a COVID-19 outbreak.

"Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part One" earned $567.5 million worldwide and received some of the best reviews in the franchise's 27-year history.

"Top Gun: Maverick" also faced multiple setbacks due to the pandemic, but it ultimately landed in the right gear as Cruise's highest-grossing film and the second-highest-grossing movie in 2022, with $1.4 billion worldwide.

The Oscar-nominated film also marked Cruise's personal best when it crossed the $800 million mark in June 2022.

Third Actor Seems to Confirm He's Not the 'Idiot' Who Screamed at Rebecca Ferguson on Set

A story told by Dune ‘s Rebecca Ferguson is going viral, and it involves her work with a past co-star who she called an “absolute idiot.”

She went on Reign with Josh Smith podcast , where she shared about her work with this anonymous co-star, “I remember there was a moment and this human being was being so insecure and angry because this person couldn’t get the scenes out. And I think I was so vulnerable and uncomfortable that I got screamed at. But because this person was number one on a call sheet, there was no safety net for me. So no one had my back. And I would cry walking off set.”

The co-star in question shared what they would say to her, including things like: “You call yourself an actor?” and “This is what I have to work with?” She recalled, “I stood there just breaking.”

She took matters into her own hands the next day, sharing, “The next day I walked on and I said, ‘You get off my set.’ It was the first time I’d ever spoken [back to that person]. I was so scared. And I looked at this person and said ‘You can f-ck off.’”

“I said, ‘The person can turn around and I can act to the back [of their] head.’ And I did. I have no problem using my voice and I’m not scared of the consequences of saying what I think,” she continued.

Rebecca herself clarified two actors who were NOT the actor in question, and another actor has come forward and seems to be confirming it wasn’t him.

Tom Cruise re-emerges: Actor looks his age after viral photos of his changing appearance

Tom Cruise

Tom Cruise went viral last month after photos emerged of the actor at a baseball game with a different appearance.

This weekend, the 59-year-old actor was spotted at the Duxford Airfield in Cambridge, England, looking more like himself.

The upcoming M: 18 is the follow-up to the 2018 movie Mission: Impossible Fallout and is scheduled for release in 2023.

The actor appeared less bloated in the newer images compared to a month ago when he was subject to rumors about potentially undergoing cosmetic surgery.

Tom Cruise emerged in a navy blue sweater and dark blue jeans with a head full of hair. In addition, the Missions Impossible star appeared less bloated but seemed to have gained a little weight .

Mission Impossible 7 has finished filming

Despite currently filming scenes for Mission Impossible 8, the previous installment is yet to be released.

As with many movies in recent times, Mission Impossible 7 has had several COVID-related delays.

Mission Impossible 7 gaffer Martin Smith revealed that the movie had finished wrapping in September on his Instagram account.

UK-based gaffer Martin Smith posted this on Instagram today. Looks like principal photography on #MI7 is complete! Now onto #MI8 ! #ScorpioSeason approaches! ? pic.twitter.com/DRzPwIthcO — Light the Fuse Podcast (@LightTheFusePod) September 10, 2021

The movie is currently in post-production and is scheduled for release on September 30, 2022.

Tom Cruise talks about filming Mission Impossible

Tom Cruise first starred as Ethan Hunt in the 1996 movie Mission Impossible.

The spy movie, which the actor produced, was a commercial and critical success and was the third highest-grossing film that year.

In a recent interview, he spoke about creating the movie in a clip via GamesRadar .

“I looked at Paramount, and I thought what I wanted to produce was something – I looked at it in many different ways… I wanted something that was going to be very commercial, potentially, but I wanted something that was going to be artistically challenging,” Cruise explains.

In an interview about the film, Tom Cruise explained the movie’s challenges in several countries.

“What is the challenge of this thing going to be? I wanted it to be an international film, and an international cast,” Cruise adds. “Which at that time was different. I wanted to shoot it in England… I remember they said, ‘Can’t you shoot it in LA, or New York?’ And I was like, ‘No, I actually, I want to go to London.'”

In addition, the busy actor is also promoting the upcoming movie Top Gun: Maverick, which is scheduled for release next year.

The images feature Cruise running in front of London's Houses of Parliament, with Big Ben in the background.

The movie, earlier referred to as Dead Reckoning Part Two, has been filming in the UK for quite some time now. Its previous installment, Dead Reckoning, was also shot in and around London. MI: 8 will apparently have a significant time jump from its previous chapter, owing to Cruise's long hair. The actor had sported short hair in MI: 7.

TOM Cruise's daughter Suri Cruise has been spotted on the streets of Manhattan looking like a full-blown adult.

The 17-year-old was seen in New York's Soho while walking with some friends.

17-year-old Suri Crews was spotted on the streets of New York City

Suri is the daughter of actors Tom Cruise , 60, and Katie Holmes , 44.

She was wearing a black tank top and a knee-length denim skirt which gave early 2000s vibes.

She paired it with several silver bracelets and a black string choker necklace that had a large silver flower on it.

On her feet were black sneakers and tall white socks that were scrunched down at her ankles.

TWO YEARS AGO

In August 2021, Katie and her lookalike daughter turned heads as they stepped out in New York City .

It was hard to miss that her daughter had a striking similarity to her actress mom in the early days of her career.

With her tall frame and long dark locks, the teen looked just like Katie when she starred in Dawson's Creek over 20 years ago.

Katie starred as Joey Potter in Dawson's Creek from 1998 to 2003, joining the show as a fresh-faced 18-year-old.

On their Friday outing, Katie kept it casual in a cream T-shirt tucked into white pants. Suri wore red shorts and cropped tank top.

Enjoying her evening stroll with her only child, Katie affectionately played with her daughter's brunette tresses while they waited for a crosswalk to turn green.

FATHER-DAUGHTER RELATIONSHIP

Suri has reportedly not seen  Top Gun  star Tom in more than a decade after her mom divorced him when she was five.

Katie gained sole custody of Suri in 2012, along with a generous settlement that has Tom paying a reported £325,000 a year for his daughter’s care.

After the split, Katie took Suri to New York which was 2,400 miles away from LA -based Tom.

The actor has been accused of putting his religion before his daughter, with ex-Scientologists claiming he has been ordered to shun Katie and Suri as non-believers.

High-profile former church member Samantha Domingo, daughter-in-law of opera singer Placido, spoke about the religion in 2019.
