The PGA Tour is merging its developmental circuits. Here’s what you need to know

You thought the Designated events and all the other scheduling changes at the top were all the PGA Tour was working on for 2024? Think again.
The Tour announced Tuesday that it will merge the PGA Tour Latinoamerica and PGA Tour Canada , creating the PGA Tour Americas, which will begin play next season.
For the last decade or so, the Latinoamerica and Canada tours have operated separate 12- and 10-event schedules, respectively, with distinct memberships, both rewarding the top-5 finishers for the season Korn Ferry Tour cards for the following season.
But starting in 2024, those two circuits will be rolled into a unified PGA Tour Americas with a 16-event schedule consisting of a Latin American swing and North American swing, with events in both the United States and Canada. The top 10 finishers will gain full status on the Korn Ferry Tour.
Here’s what you need to know:
16-event schedule
Instead of two separate tours, the PGA Tour Americas will consist of two swings; one in Latin and South America from February to May and another in the United States and Canada from June to September. There will be a total of 16 events.
Currently, the Latin American tour begins in December while the Canadian tour doesn’t start until June.
The new system will avoid the overlap between the two tours that currently exists from June to early-July.
Only the top-60 players on the PGA Tour Americas points list will be guaranteed to move on from the Latin America swing to the North America swing. In between the two legs will be a midseason Q School.
The full schedule for the 2024 season will be announced in September. Purse sizes and point distribution will come close to the start of the new tour in February 2024.
Who will play?
With LIV threatening, PGA Tour offers college stars new membership fast track
Complete eligibility criteria for the new tour are not yet outlined, but the PGA Tour announced the top-60 finishers on both this year’s Latinoamerica Tour and Canada Tour points lists will be exempt for the Latin America swing.
From there, eligibility criteria would be similar to that of the current tours and include finishers from beyond the 40th spot in PGA Tour Q School. There’s also an exemption for the top finisher on the APGA Tour who is a member of the APGA Development program. The Latinoamérica Dev Series will also offer access to the first swing.
When the Tour shifts to North America, the mid-season Q school will offer access both to players without status and those who did not finish in the top 60 of the first swing. This is also when finishers 6-20 in the PGA Tour University ranking will be added to the membership after graduating college.
Korn Ferry cards and Q-School exemptions
At the end of the North American swing, the top-10 finishers on the PGA Tour Americas points list will be granted Korn Ferry Tour cards for the following season and exempt through the third reshuffle.
But there are also five additional conditional Korn Ferry Tour cards available to the top-two finishers from the Latin America swing and the top-three finishers on the North America swing, if they were not in the season-long top 10.
All of those players will then be exempt to the final stage of PGA Tour Q School where, starting again this year, the top-5 finishers and ties will be awarded PGA Tour cards. The next 15 finishers on the season-long list, along with the remainder of the top-10 performers in each swing will be exempt into the second stage of Q-School. All PGA Tour Americas members will be exempt into the first stage.

When the PGA Tour held a meeting with players on the Latinoamerica Tour Tuesday evening from this week’s event in Peru to discuss the changes, feelings were somewhat mixed, said Josh Goldenberg, who has played on both tours since turning pro in 2019.
“It’s nice that now there are going to be 15, more or less, cards for Korn Ferry, whereas for Latin and Canada this year there’s only five,” Goldenberg told GOLF Tuesday evening. “But at the same time, the competition is probably going to be better because they’re taking the best — top of both [tours] — and you have to play well on that first series of events to then get to the second part of the season.”
Ryan Davis, who holds conditional status on the PGA Tour Canada for the upcoming season, told GOLF he also felt “indifferent” toward the changes. He said a lot of the downside could be from increased travel. Many aspiring pros previously picked one tour or the other, while those with means could attempt to play both.
“It’s pretty much the same because now there are 10 spots for Korn Ferry Tour up for grabs and it was five for each tour before,” Davis said. “It’s nice to have something to play in all year long now, though. Hopefully, the purses are increased because, with that much travel, it’s going to be hard to make any money.”

Purses for this season’s Latinoamerica tour were $175,000 with the Tour Championship offering $200,000. The Canada tour’s purses are slightly larger, between $200,000 and $225,000, depending on the event. Winner’s shares range from $31,500 for most Latinoamerica events while the winner of the Canada tour’s final event will take home $40,500.
Goldenberg, who’s 17th on the PGA Tour Latinoamerica points list, said those purses have been the same since before he turned pro. Higher purses could make the difference for players who were only expecting to play on one tour.
Overall, Goldberg said, the path to the Korn Ferry Tour becomes just a little bit more efficient and easier to understand with the new Tour.
“You have the ability to plan your schedule better,” he said. “Whereas before you had one season or one tour you played on and then you had to either go to Q school for the other tour if you didn’t have status from the year prior. So your season wasn’t as clear as to what events you would play in.
“I think this allows you the ability to do that if you play well. And I think at the end of the day playing well takes care of everything.”

Details have been finalized for the PGA Tour’s new developmental tour, as the Tour announced Tuesday the competition schedule for the PGA Tour Americas’ inaugural season.
The Americas tour combines what were formerly known as PGA Tour Canada and PGA Tour Latinoamerica, and the circuit will debut in March 2024 with a 16-event slate contested through September that is divided into two swings – Latin American Swing (six events) and North American Swing (10 events, including nine in Canada).
The season begins March 21-24 with the Bupa Championship at PGA Riviera Maya in Tulum, Mexico, and will be capped by the 120-player, no-cut Fortinet Cup Championship on Sept. 5-8 at TPC Toronto in Caledon, Ontario.
There is $3.6 million in prize money up for grabs, $225,000 per event and $40,500 to each winner, while a $100,000 bonus pool has been introduced for the top 10 finishers in the Fortinet Cup points standings ($25,000 to No. 1).

• Nos. 11-25 on the final Americas points list will be exempt into the second stage of PGA Tour Q-School, as will Nos. 3-10 of the Latin American Swing and Nos. 4-10 of the North American Swing
• Initial eligibility for the Latin American Swing (144-player fields) will include full membership for the top 60 on this year’s PGA Tour Canada and PGA Tour Latinoamerica points lists, plus first-stage medalists from this year’s PGA Tour Q-School, additional finishers from this year’s PGA Tour Q-School final stage, the top 3 finishers from this year’s Latinoamerica Dev Series and this year’s APGA points champion
• The top 60 players after the Latin American Swing will retain full status for the North American Swing (156-player fields) while a six-site Q-School will also be held between swings with the top nine finishers from each site earning full status for the North American Swing

PGA TOUR Announces 2024 PGA TOUR Americas Schedule
PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Florida – The PGA TOUR announced the 2024 PGA TOUR Americas schedule, which features 16 tournaments spanning eight countries, beginning in March and concluding in September with the Fortinet Cup Championship. PGA TOUR Americas, which was introduced in April 2023, is the merger of PGA TOUR Latinoamérica and PGA TOUR Canada into a singular Tour.
“We are thrilled to announce the schedule for the inaugural PGA TOUR Americas season in 2024,” said Korn Ferry Tour President Alex Baldwin, who also oversees PGA TOUR Americas. “We are extremely grateful for our partners in their support of our members, our tournaments and our communities, and I’m confident our 16-event schedule will prepare our members for the next step in their professional golf journey.”
Fortinet is expanding its relationship with the PGA TOUR and sponsoring the season-long points race for PGA TOUR Americas, which will be referred to as the Fortinet Cup Standings. The top 10 players from the final 2024 Fortinet Cup Standings will earn Korn Ferry Tour membership for the 2025 season, as well as a share of a $100,000 USD bonus pool, with the No. 1 player earning $25,000 USD. In addition to the $100,000 USD bonus, players will compete for $3.6 Million USD in prize money across the 16 events ($225,000 USD purse for all 16 events).
The 2024 PGA TOUR Americas season opens with the Bupa Championship in Tulum, Mexico, at PGA Riviera Maya from March 21-24, which moves from its previous position at the end of the PGA TOUR Latinoamérica season to become the season-opening event.
Following a two-week break, the Tour will resume with the 69th Brazil Open at Rio Olympic Golf Course, which will mark the first time since 2017 a PGA TOUR-sanctioned event will be held at the course which famously hosted the 2016 Olympics. Over the subsequent three weeks, PGA TOUR Americas will travel to Santiago del Estero, Argentina, for the Termas de Rio Hondo Invitational presentado por Zurich (April 18-21), followed by the Diners Club Peru Open at Lima’s Los Inkas Golf Club (April 25-28), and the KIA Open at Quito Tenis y Golf Club in Quito, Ecuador (May 2-5).
The Inter Rapidisimo Golf Championship in Bogota, Colombia (May 16-19) will mark the conclusion of the six-event Latin America Swing, at which time the top 60 players from the Fortinet Cup Standings will earn access into the 10-event North America Swing. Additionally, the No. 1 and No. 2 finishers from the Fortinet Cup Standings at the conclusion of the Latin America Swing will earn conditional membership for the 2025 Korn Ferry Tour season, though those players can improve their status through the season-long standings.
During the four-week break between the Latin America and North America swings, PGA TOUR Americas will host six Qualifying Tournaments throughout North America, allowing players opportunities to earn access into the final 10 events of the PGA TOUR Americas season. Also taking place during the midseason break, players who finish Nos. 6-25 in the final 2024 PGA TOUR University Ranking will earn access to the North America Swing, which will see fields increase from 144 to 156 until the Fortinet Cup Championship.
The North America Swing, which features nine events in Canada and one in the United States, opens June 20-23 with The Beachlands Victoria Open presented by Times Colonist, at the Uplands Golf Course in Victoria, British Columbia, immediately followed by a trip east to Strathcona County, near Edmonton, Alberta, for the ATB Classic at Northern Bear Golf Course .
Following a one-week break in play, PGA TOUR Americas resumes with the inaugural playing of the Explore NB Open, which will be played at Mactaquac Golf Course in New Brunswick from July 11-14. This marks the first time PGA TOUR-sanctioned golf will be contested in the province of New Brunswick. The Tour then heads to the province of Quebec, for the Quebec Open at Golf Chateau-Bromont (July 18-21), followed by back-to-back weeks in Ontario with the Commissionaires Ottawa Open at Eagle Creek Golf Club and the Windsor Championship at Ambassador Golf Club.
The season resumes after an off week with the Elk Ridge Saskatchewan Open presented by Brandt (Aug. 15-18) in Waskesiu Lake, Saskatchewan, immediately followed by the CentrePort Canada Rail Park Manitoba Open at the Southwood Golf & Country Club in Winnipeg (Aug. 22-25).
The season’s penultimate event – the CRMC Championship presented by Gertens – will be contested in Brainerd, Minnesota from Aug. 29-Sept. 1. At the conclusion of the CRMC Championship, the top 120 players from the Fortinet Cup Standings will earn access to the season-ending Fortinet Cup Championship at TPC Toronto’s newly renovated North course, where the top 10 players on the final Fortinet Cup Standings will earn 2025 Korn Ferry Tour membership.

How to watch the The Players Championship 2024 online from anywhere using a VPN
If you find yourself unable to view the tournament locally, you may need a different way to watch -- that's where using a VPN can come in handy. A VPN is also the best way to stop your ISP from throttling your speeds by encrypting your traffic, and it's also a great idea if you're traveling and find yourself connected to a Wi-Fi network, and you want to add an extra layer of privacy for your devices and logins.
With a VPN, you're able to virtually change your location on your phone, tablet or laptop to get access to the tournament. So if your internet provider or mobile carrier has stuck you with an IP address that incorrectly shows your location in a blackout zone, a VPN can correct that problem by giving you an IP address in your correct, nonblackout area. Most VPNs, like our Editors' Choice, ExpressVPN , make it really easy to do this.
Using a VPN to watch or stream sports is legal in any country where VPNs are legal, including the US, UK and Canada, as long as you have a legitimate subscription to the service you're streaming. You should be sure your VPN is set up correctly to prevent leaks: Even where VPNs are legal, the streaming service may terminate the account of anyone it deems to be circumventing correctly applied blackout restrictions.

First, log into your streaming service subscription account and make sure the address registered for the account is an address in the correct viewing area. If not, you may need to change the physical address on file with your account. Second, some smart TVs -- like Roku -- don't have VPN apps you can install directly on the device itself. Instead, you'll have to install the VPN on your router or the mobile hotspot you're using (like your phone) so that any device on its Wi-Fi network now appears in the correct viewing location.
- All of the VPN providers we recommend have helpful instructions on their main site for quickly installing the VPN on your router. In some cases with smart TV services, after you install a cable network's sports app, you'll be asked to verify a numeric code or click a link sent to your email address on file for your smart TV. This is where having a VPN on your router will also help, since both devices will appear to be in the correct location.
- And remember, browsers can often give away a location despite using a VPN, so be sure you're using a privacy-first browser to log into your services. We normally recommend Brave .

Notes: The Players Championship has the biggest purse in golf at $25 million. ... The tournament has been referred to casually as the fifth major as the biggest event on the strongest tour. But it has lost the claim for having the strongest field because of all the defections to Saudi-funded LIV Golf. ... Tiger Woods has decided not to play. He would have been exempt from his 2019 Masters victory. ... This is the 50th edition of The Players. ... No one has ever won back to back at The Players, although Padraig Harrington was a runner-up in consecutive years. ... Victory comes with a three-year exemption into the four majors. ... Steve Stricker is in the field as the Senior Players Championship winner. ... This is the 30-year anniversary of Greg Norman setting the tournament record of 264. ... The Players has been held at the TPC Sawgrass since 1982. No one has won more than twice on the Stadium Course. ... Woods is the only player to have won The Players and the Masters in the same year.

BEST STATES FOR PUBLIC GOLF
COURSE RANKINGS
America's 100 Greatest Public Courses
We’re not shy about expressing enthusiasm for publishing the biennial list of Golf Digest's America’s 100 Greatest Public Golf Courses. Our marquee franchise, the America's 100 Greatest Courses ranking, is our authoritative survey of great golf course architecture, but it's also a little like ranking the world's greatest three-starred restaurants—where most of us will never be able to get a reservation.
Our public course ranking, on the other hand, is relative to all of us. It’s meant to be both a marker of exemplary golf design and a guide to where you might want to play, either soon or on a special occasion trip. The price tags on many of these courses may be forbidding but they’re nevertheless open to the public, and many of those on the second half of the list are quite reasonably priced for the level of golf they deliver.
Twelve courses fell off this year’s ranking, including longtime stalwarts Bay Harbor in Michigan (the Links/Quarry course), Pete Dye’s Bulle Rock in Maryland and the Mike Strantz-designed Caledonia Golf & Fish Club in Myrtle Beach. Also off is the former America’s 100 Greatest Courses member Pine Barrens at World Woods in Florida, not because it didn't score high enough, but because it doesn’t exist anymore—it’s being transformed into a new course at the rejuvenated Cabot Citrus Farms, expected to open January 2024. Will the new design be as worthy of this ranking as the old?
The dozen courses coming onto the ranking in 2023 represent several debut appearances in addition to a few that return after temporary hiatus. Wynn Golf Club in Las Vegas enters new at No. 66, the highest debut or return. Southern Pines in North Carolina, the beloved but scruffy old Ross course outside Pinehurst, makes its first appearance following a major remodel by Kyle Franz that brings it on par with sister courses Pine Needles (No. 63) and Mid Pines (No. 86). Buffalo Ridge in Missouri is back in the ranking for the first time since 2009, giving Big Cedar Lodge three courses in the top 100 along with Payne’s Valley (new at No. 78) and Ozarks National (33rd).
As always there are a number of big jumps in the rankings, as well as a few free falls. That’s part of the fun, as you’ll see here.
Below you'll find our latest ranking of America's 100 Greatest Public courses, based on thousands of evaluations from our course panelists.
We urge you to click through to each individual course page for bonus photography, drone footage and reviews from our course panelists. Plus, you can now leave your own ratings on the courses you’ve played … to make your case why your favorite should be ranked higher.

Most golf fans are familiar with Kapalua Golf Club’s Plantation Course, home of the PGA Tour's opening event each year. Located on the north shore of the Hawaiian island of Maui, the Plantation was built from open, windswept pineapple fields on the pronounced slope of a volcano and is irrigated by sprinklers pressured solely by gravity. As the first design collaboration by Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw, it unveiled their joint admiration for old-style courses. The blind drive on the fourth, the cut-the-corner drives on the fifth and sixth are all based on tee shots found at National Golf Links. So, too, are its punchbowl green and strings of diagonal bunkers. It's also a massive course, built on a huge scale, Coore says, to accommodate the wind and the slope and the fact that it gets mostly resort play.

The Tom Weiskopf-designed Forest Dunes in Michigan is a terrific layout on a terrific piece of property, with sand dunes deposited by the nearby Au Sable River and covered with mature pines. But it's not a unique piece of property. When I first played it, I was struck by how much Forest Dunes resembles a Texas course designed by Weiskopf's former partner, Jay Morrish. That course, Pine Dunes in Frankston, Texas, is built on much the same terrain, sand dunes covered in pines. Though they were working at the same time on their respective projects (Forest Dunes was completed in 2000 but didn't open until 2002; Pine Dunes opened in 2001), I don't think Weiskopf or Morrish had any idea that they were working on such similar courses, and I don't think they stole each other's ideas. But it's uncanny how they created kissing-cousin courses. Or maybe not. The two worked together for over a decade before splitting up in 1996, and they shared a common philosophy of course design.

I like a lot of things about Mossy Oak, particularly the par-3 15th, a mirror image of the fifth at Hanse's Streamsong Black, which itself is a version of the Calamity hole at Royal Portrush, and I really liked the par-4 eighth, which plays over a creek and uphill between huge oaks to a green that slopes gently front to back. The par-4 13th is another fine hole, with a fairway that kicks left toward a stream, much in the manner of Merion East's fifth hole. I'm also a fan of the aforementioned 17th, which plays uphill to a plateau fairway into which that huge bunker is embedded. But it's 75 yards short of the green, which is well beyond the crest of the plateau and needs an extra tall flagstick just to pose a target. This is a very unusual hole. I'm also a fan of Hanse's bunkering at Mossy Oak. It's big sweeping stuff like seen as some Tillinghast designs such as Ridgewood. And the sand is earthen-toned, not bright white. Bryan told me they trucked it in from a river six miles away.A couple of things I didn't care for: The green on the par-4 second has two bunkers on its left flank that also serve as fairway bunkers on the par-5 fifth hole going in the opposite direction. Granted, the fifth fairway is probably 50 yards wide and those bunkers are midway between the tee shot landing area and the second shot landing area, but the lawyer in me still feels it's a lawsuit waiting to happen.

78. (NEW) Payne's Valley at Big Cedar Lodge
It was a long time coming. That’s not a reference to the three-and-a-half-years of construction and grow-in for Payne’s Valley, the newest resort course at Big Cedar Lodge near Branson, Mo. Rather, it had been 14 years since public golfers began waiting to play a course designed by Tiger Woods. Woods founded his design company, TGR Design, in 2006. But because of his schedule, the desire to be selective of the few projects he signs onto and a devastating financial crisis, only two TGR courses were been completed—the El Cardonal course at Diamante Cabo San Lucas in Mexico, and Bluejack National, a private course in Texas. Payne’s Valley, which opened in 2020, presents to the largest audience to date the architectural principles he most values. “My goal when starting TGR Design was to create courses that are fun and playable for golfers of all abilities,” Woods told Golf Digest. “This was particularly important at Payne’s Valley, my first public golf course.”

Dan Proctor and Dave Axland have been quasi-legends in the business of golf course construction for over 30 years now, individually and collectively. They've worked on many of Coore & Crenshaw’s prominent designs, including Sand Hills (Nebraska's premier layout, in the center of the state's vast sand hills) and Cabot Cliffs (Canada's premier layout these days). They even rated cameo appearances in Geoff Shackleford’s 1998 novel, The Good Doctor Returns. And they were also a talented course design team in their spare time, routing and building quality low-budget courses in the Coore & Crenshaw style. Their most prominent collaboration is Wild Horse in central Nebraska, a public “little brother” to Sand Hills, in slightly softer but still authentic sand hills, closer to civilization. Like at Sand Hills, Wild Horse is lay-of-the-land architecture routed without benefit of topographic maps, with natural-looking bunkers, native grass roughs and pitch-and-run shots galore. Total earth moved: 5,000 cubic yards. Total construction costs: a little less than $1 million.

Players Championship 2024: The week is here. Which players are coming in on hot streaks?
Scottie Scheffler is the hottest golfer on the planet — but he's not alone entering this week's 50th Players Championship.
Scheffler's victory on Sunday at the Arnold Palmer Invitational kept him solidly atop the World Golf Rankings and moved him past Matthieu Pavon into first place on the FedEx Cup points list. Since Scheffler qualified for the PGA Tour in 2019-20, no one has won more tournaments or finished among the top three, top five or top 10 than the former University of Texas star from New Jersey.
Scheffler has built plenty of momentum for The Players, which begins Thursday at the Players Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass. But the field of 144 is the deepest in professional golf and he's not the only player riding a wave to Ponte Vedra Beach.
Here are other candidates on the current PGA Tour hot list ... and those who could stand to warm up a bit:
Who's hot: Scottie Scheffler is scorching
Scottie Scheffler: Let's just take this season — Scheffler has finished among the top-10 in five of six starts and the top five in three. In the last two seasons, he's finished among the top-10 in 22 of 29 starts (75.8 percent) and the top five in 17 of 29 (58.6). It was only one tournament, but he led the field in Strokes Gained Putting last week, and the conventional wisdom in the past few years is that if Scheffler ever started putting in more than his share of 6-footers, he'd go on a Tiger Woods-like roll.
Wyndham Clark: His second-place finish at Bay Hills was a sharp bounce-back from a missed cut at the Genesis Invitational. Since winning the Wells Fargo Championship in May, Clark has five top 10s and all three of his Tour victories. It remains to be seen if his high banana cut will hit enough fairways at The Players but it did post two 69s and tie for 27th last year.
Byeong Hun An: His tie for eighth at Bay Hill was An's third top-10 this season and he's quietly made 13 cuts in a row with five top 10s in all. He started the season strong with a four at the Sentry Championship and a playoff loss to Grayson Murray at the Sony Open.
Will Zalatoris: He's making a strong early case for PGA Tour Comeback Player of the Year. Since returning from back surgery that cost him last year, he's made four of five cuts and in his last three starts, has tied for fourth, second and 13th.
Hideki Matsuyama: He's posted scores of par or lower in 13 of his last 14 competitive rounds and took it deep with a 62 in the final round to win the Genesis Invitational. He finished solo fifth in The Players last year, then didn't have another top 10 until he won at Riviera.
Who's not: Rory McIlroy struggling in America
Rory McIlroy: The 2019 Players champion won earlier this year in the DP World Tour's stop in Dubai but he's failed to crack the top 20 in four U.S. starts. He's trying to regain the form he had at the end of the 2022-23 season when he closed with 10 top-10 finishes in a row, including his victory in the Scottish Open. He's driving the ball well and is first on the Tour in Strokes Gained off the tee. But oddly enough, McIlroy is having trouble finding the greens, and is 133rd in Strokes Gained approach to the green.
Viktor Hovland: Since winning the 2023 FedEx Cup Championship (also winning the BMW Championship the week before), Hovland has a peak finish of a tie for 19th at the Genesis Invitational. He was in the mix entering the weekend at Bay Hil and shot 75-75.
Collin Morikawa: Only 11 players missed the cut at the Palmer Invitational. This two-time major champion was one of them after a second-round 80. Morikawa can't quite seem to decide which direction to move. He's missed two cuts, but has a tie for fifth, a tie for 14th and a tie for 19th in his other three starts this season and won his last start of the 2022-23 season at the ZOZO Championship.
Rickie Fowler: Everyone thought the 2015 Players champion was back when he won the Rocket Mortage Classic last year to cap a stretch of four top 10s in a five-tournament span, which also included a tie for fifth in the U.S. Open. But since then he's missed two cuts and his average finish is 29th, with nothing better than a tie for 16th in the 2023 Tour Championship — slightly below middle of the pack in that event. Everything is a bit of a mess right now: he's 127th in driving accuracy, 127th in greens in regulation and 121st in total putting.
Nick Dunlap: Well, no one said it was going to be that easy every week. Since winning The American Express as an amateur and then leaving Alabama to join the Tour four days later, Dunlap has finished 80, missed a cut, tied for 53rd and tied for 48th. Since his third-round 60 at La Quinta, he's had only one round in the 60s in his last 14.

Junior yana wilson's caddie dies on eve of epson tour opener, share this article.
Yana Wilson will never forget the 2024 Epson Tour season opener. It started out as a reunion of sorts as Wilson met up again with Rick Evans, the longtime Liberty National caddie who was on her bag for the win at the AJGA Mizuho Americas Open last summer. Wilson, 17, won the junior event right alongside Rose Zhang.
Evans collapsed on Tuesday during a practice round at the Florida’s Natural Charity Classic in Winter Haven, Florida. On Thursday evening, the night before the start of the 54-hole event, Wilson’s family learned that the caddie known as “Goose” had died.
Wilson, who was playing in the event as an amateur, wrote in a touching Instagram post that she would do her best to make him proud. She stayed in the tournament, recording three eagles in Saturday’s round to sit only two strokes back of the leaders.
But Wilson fell ill on Sunday, and as she tried to warm up for the final round, she was too dizzy to compete and withdrew from the tournament.
“I have never met a caddie better than you,” Wilson wrote. “Your ability to guide and encourage was unmatched.”
Last year’s AJGA Player of the Year, Wilson won her first professional title last month on the Cactus Tour , playing alongside 2020 AIG Women’s British Open champion Sophia Popov, who is coming back from maternity leave.
Wilson had set a goal of winning a professional title before she graduated from high school. Such lofty goals are often placed on her annual vision boards. The first year she won the Drive, Chip and Putt National Finals at Augusta National, for example, Wilson had the Masters leaderboard on her board.
Two years ago when she won the U.S. Girls’ Junior, she’d posted a picture of Minjee Lee hoisting the Girls’ Junior trophy.
Like many junior players, Wilson tries to emulate 2023 Augusta National Womens Amateur champ Zhang as much as she can. For example, her mindset coming into this week’s Epson Tour event was quite different compared to her first sponsor exemption on the developmental tour.
“I thought I’d kind of have it in the bag back then,” said Wilson, “which obviously isn’t the best mindset to walk into a tournament with.
“This time I have no expectation. … That’s also kind of what Rose talks about all the time – having no expectations.”
Yana Wilson and Rose Zhang imitate a “selfie” with their trophies after the final round of the 2023 Mizuho Americas Open at Liberty National Golf Club in Jersey City, New Jersey. (Photo: Elsa/Getty Images)
Last summer, Wilson played in her first LPGA major at the U.S. Women’s Open at Pebble Beach. She recently received an invitation to compete in the Amundi Evian Championship this July.
Her favorite pro, Minjee Lee, won that one as well.
Wilson, who was born and raised in Henderson, Nevada, went out to watch her favorite LPGA players as a youngster at the Kia Classic near San Diego. She was 8 years old the first time Lee caught her eye and gave her a golf ball.
View this post on Instagram A post shared by yana wilson (@yana54lv)
While winning the Girls’ Junior is the most obvious comparison between the two, there’s one more similarity that’s nothing short of shocking.
Wilson was out watching the LPGA at Aviara in 2016. She’d stepped back from Lee to watch Lydia Ko when she heard a tremendous roar coming from the 16th. Lee had holed out for an ace on the drivable par 4.
Two years later, Wilson did the same from 290 yards on the downhill dogleg as they chased a setting sun.
“It was such a crazy coincidence,” she said of her first ace.
Wilson, who was taught by her father, Jim, would like nothing more than to add something to her resume this spring that Lee doesn’t boast: a stroke-play victory at Augusta National.
One special caddie will be with her all the way.

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. — The same player has occupied golf’s No. 1 world ranking for the past 43 weeks, and 77 overall dating back to 2022. Yet that player could walk down Fifth Avenue while toting golf clubs over his shoulder and go as unnoticed as the local mail carrier.
Scottie Scheffler has won seven times on the PGA Tour since 2022, including a Masters, and yet there’s nothing about him that fits the aura and profile of a star the way it did for the likes of Rory McIlroy or Jon Rahm during their recent reigns at the top of the sport.
And here’s the thing about that: The 27-year-old Scheffler, who spent his early youth growing up in North Jersey before his family moved to Dallas, doesn’t give a damn.
Other than his mind-bendingly consistent golf swing and near-perfect ball striking, that’s perhaps the biggest reason he’s remained at the top of the sport, with no hint in sight of his dominance waning.
Scheffler doesn’t define his life by golf, how many tournaments or major championships he wins, or where he’s ranked.
“I don’t really think about that kind of stuff,’’ Scheffler said in advance of his defense of his title at this week’s Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass.
Asked what has allowed him to remain so grounded and unaffected by all he’s accomplished, Scheffler called that “a nice compliment, so thank you.’’
“I think I attribute it mostly to my faith, but I also have a great upbringing,’’ Scheffler said. “I have great parents. I have a great wife. We have great friends at home. So, I’m surrounded by a lot of people that really don’t care very much whether or not I won last week [in the Arnold Palmer Invitational at Bay Hill, which he did].
“At the end of the day, if I shot 75 on Sunday, I think Monday would have looked pretty similar to how it looked this week, besides maybe a few extra text messages in my phone that I received.’’
For the record: The day after he won at Bay Hill, Scheffler appeared at TPC Sawgrass to work on his game. Most players, the day after winning, wouldn’t be anywhere near the next tournament’s golf course. They’d be sleeping in and chilling out somewhere.
Not Scheffler, who’s become a silent assassin in the game.
“It’s ridiculous how good at golf he is,’’ Justin Thomas, who’s paired with Scheffler for the first two rounds, said Wednesday. “In terms of him being under the radar, I think that’s also kind of speaks to him. He doesn’t care about social media. He doesn’t care about popularity. He just loves golf, and he’s just a grinder, and all he wants to do is just play really, really well and practice a lot, and that’s what he does.’’
Scheffler’s idol, Tiger Woods, held the No. 1 ranking longer than anyone in the sport’s history, and defined aura and star power. But there’s something unique about Scheffler that prevents him from having either of those things.
“I don’t know what more you could ask from a super-mega star,’’ Max Homa said. “I saw somebody on the internet say he’s boring, and I would imagine that’s what you would dream of: To become the best player in the world and someone who is going to set records and win a bunch of majors, you want to play as boring of golf as you can, you want it be as even-keeled as you can. You would think that’s what you would build in a lab.’’
Homa called Scheffler “the most consistent [player] I’ve ever really seen.’
“I’ve never seen anybody hit the ball quite like that every day,’’ Homa said. “He had the week at Memorial last year where he lost by one [shot], and I think he was like 18 strokes gained putting behind the leader. That’s terrifying.’’
In case you hadn’t heard, putting has been the bane of Scheffler’s existence for the better part of the past year. He went 19 tournaments without a win before winning at Bay Hill for the second time in the past three years, having switched to a mallet putter and putting better than he had in memory.
McIlroy, when asked on TV last month at the Genesis about Scheffler’s putting holding him back, suggested him going to a mallet putter.
Asked about that Wednesday, McIlroy joked, “I’m not going to give him any more advice, that’s for sure.’’
Homa said every time he watches Scheffler do an interview after winning, “it just seems like he’s really got it figured out.’’
Everything but the star and fame thing.
“I would recognize him walking down the street,’’ Homa said. “If I was a fan of golf, I would gawk at how impressive he has been.’’

2024 Players Championship one and done picks, field, top sleepers: PGA Tour predictions, golf betting advice
T he PGA Tour flagship event, also known as golf's fifth major, is on tap this week with the 2024 Players Championship set to get underway at TPC Sawgrass on Thursday, March 14. The 2024 Players Championship field will be star-studded with Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy, and Justin Thomas among the headliners. Scheffler is the defending tournament champion, and enters this week as the 11-2 betting favorite in the latest 2024 Players Championship odds. He is followed on the PGA odds board by McIlroy (12-1), Thomas (22-1), Xander Schauffele (22-1), Viktor Hovland (22-1), Patrick Cantlay (25-1), and Will Zalatoris (25-1). The total 2024 Players Championship purse is $25 million, with the winner scheduled to take home $4.5 million in prize money.
As the No. 1 ranked player in the world, Scheffler will likely be a popular pick in one and done pools this week. Should you back the 2022 Masters champion? Or should you target another big-name golfer like McIlroy, Thomas, or Hovland? Before locking in your 2024 Players Championship one and done picks, you need to see what SportsLine DFS pro and PGA expert Mike McClure has to say .
The One and Done format is growing in popularity. It has several noticeable similarities to NFL Survivor pools, with the main difference being entries are not eliminated with a bad week. Players pick one golfer per week and earn points based on their selected golfer's prize money for that tournament. Golfers can only be used once per season, and the point format makes nailing majors, signature events, and big money tournaments critical.
McClure is a DFS legend with over $2 million in career winnings, and he's been red-hot on his PGA picks dating back to the PGA Tour restart in June of 2020. McClure uses his proprietary simulation model to analyze the field and crush his golf picks .
McClure nailed plenty of One and Done picks in 2023. At the 2023 Farmers Insurance Open, McClure's top One and Done pick, Max Homa, outlasted the entire field to take home his sixth career PGA Tour victory and $1.566 million. At the WM Phoenix Open, McClure nailed Scheffler winning the tournament, taking home $3.6 million.
He correctly called Jon Rahm's wins at The Masters and the Sentry Tournament of Champions. Then at the RBC Canadian Open McClure listed Nick Taylor and Tyrrell Hatton as two of his top one and done picks. Taylor would go on to win the tournament, while Hatton finished in third place. And finally, at the Rocket Mortgage Classic, his top OAD pick was eventual tournament champion Rickie Fowler.
This season, one of his top OAD picks was for The American Express was Justin Thomas, who finished in third place and took home $635,600. At the WM Phoenix Open, McClure recommended OAD players use Scottie Scheffler as their pick. He ended up finishing in third place, taking home $519,200. At the Genesis Invitational, McClure tabbed Patrick Cantlay, who finished in fourth place at the signature event, as his top OAD pick. Finally, at the Cognizant Classic, McClure's top one and done pick, Min Woo Lee, finished in a tie for second place.
At last week's Arnold Palmer Invitation, a signature event, McClure again recommended using Scheffler (if he hadn't already been used) and Will Zalatoris. The Result: Scheffler won the event by five strokes, and Zalatoris finished in fourth place.
Now, McClure has dialed in on the Players Championship golf tournament and just locked in his one and done picks and PGA predictions. They are a must-see for any player looking for an edge in their One and Done pool. You can only see McClure's Players Championship 2024 one and done picks at SportsLine .
Top 2024 Players Championship One and Done picks
One of McClure's favorite one and done plays this week for The Players is PGA Tour veteran Justin Thomas. The 30-year-old has 15 career PGA Tour wins, including two major championships and a victory at The Players in 2021. Thomas struggled with consistency in 2023, but has gotten off to a great start in 2024.
In five starts in 2024, Thomas has a third place finish (The American Express), sixth place finish (AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am), and two 12th place finishes (WM Phoenix Open and Arnold Palmer Invitational). Thomas has long been considered to be one of the best irons players in the world and enters this week ranked eighth on the PGA Tour in strokes gained tee-to-green (1.220), 21st in strokes gained around the green (0.401), and 25th in total strokes gained (0.900). McClure believes Thomas will be in contention until the end at the 2024 Players Championship. You can see who else to back at SportsLine .
How to make Players Championship 2024 One and Done picks
McClure is also targeting another golfer for his 2024 Players Championship one and done picks who has a long track record of success against elite competition. This former major championship winner has the ability to win any tournament he enters, and is one of the most talented golfers in this field. You can find out who it is, and check out all of McClure's Players Championship one and done picks at SportsLine .
