India's regional trains may not seem to provide much comfort, yet for many they are essential elements of survival, given that they are the quickest and least expensive form of transportation.

The most typical thing in the modern world is a train trip. We all require transportation since we need to travel long distances for various reasons, be it leisure or work. Among all of the available transit options, trains turn out to be the most practical and cost-effective choice. We like and experience exhilaration while travelling by train.

One of the most convenient and affordable forms of long-distance transportation is by train. It's amazing how learning about different cultures, geographies, languages, and cuisines can be enhanced by taking a train. The trip is similar to reading a book that includes everything you need to keep you occupied until you get there. The possibility to engage with people from diverse language and ethnic backgrounds is another benefit of travelling by train.

While travelling by train, one can pass time by reading a book, listening to music, viewing movies, or relaxing pleasantly. In conclusion, travelling by train is absolutely unique. An additional significant advantage of train travel is the stunning scenery one gets to see enroute to their destination. One may take in the scenery while the train goes, including views of the countryside, farms, woods, factories, etc. This makes train trips more thorough than those by air. There are several ways to spend time on trains. One could read a book, chat with fellow passengers, watch movies, or even play games. Trains usually provide a friendly atmosphere as people often gel with their fellow passengers and form new friendships.

My Train Journey To Shillong

One of my uncles manages a tea plantation in Shillong. He invited my family to visit during the harvesting season. We decided to go for a vacation. We arrived at the Kolkata train station at 9 am on the scheduled day and bought 3 tickets for the 11 am train. The station has improved significantly since it first started. Coming from Kolkata, it was a lengthy journey.

During my journey on the train, many hawkers entered while I was inside the train. They were selling a variety of goods. Some were selling candies and snacks, others were selling copies of documents, perfumes, and so on. These local railway hawkers were known for their ability to outsell any copywriter with their own sales pitch. They did not use boring or lifeless sales pitches.

While selling goods, some people performed songs while others impersonated politicians. They had a really unique appreciation for books. This journey was one of my core memories as it was my first train journey ever. Me and my family had a lot of fun on the train journey from Kolkata to Shillong.

A Journey by Train Essay | Short & Long Essays for Students

A Journey by Train Essay in English: In this article, you are going to learn how to write an essay on a journey by train in English. We’ve provided both long and short essays here. So, let’s begin.

A Journey by Train Essay/Paragraph

During last summer vacation, I went on a family trip to Puri with my family. This was my first long journey by train. We reached the Howrah railway station with all our luggage quite early. The train departed from Howrah at around 9 o’clock in the morning. When I looked outside everything was running behind, I loved that scene. The train was moving quite fast. The whole train was crowded.

After boarding, we had our breakfast. I always prefer a window seat, because I can enjoy beautiful nature from there. I was impressed by the beauty of the landscape. Watching the beautiful natural scenes outside gave me extreme happiness. The train finally reached the Puri station at 6 o’clock in the evening. It was an exciting train journey.

Short Essay on A Journey by Train

Train journeys are always very exciting. We get to meet a lot of new people. Two weeks back had a train journey. The name of the train was Howrah-Dhanbad Black Diamond Express. My destination was Asansol. The train departed from Howrah around 6.40 in the morning. The weather was pleasant and I took a window seat.

Most of the passengers inside the train compartment were either reading a newspaper or sleeping. I started reading one of my favourite novels. The constant yelling of the hawkers forced me to close the book and look out of the window. Around 8.30 in the morning I bought a cup of coffee and a packet of biscuits from a hawker. Having small sips in the coffee concentrated on the visuals and images that changed rapidly outside the train compartment.

I noticed that concrete jungle have paved its way to lush green fields and ponds with trees surrounding them. Farmers were tilling children were going to school through the mud track. The ambiance outside was serene and in complete contrast with the atmosphere inside the train.

Introduction:

Once I read a poem. I still remember some of  its lines as follows:

“All of the sights of the hill and the plain Fly as thick as driving rain; And ever again, in the wink of an eye Painted stations whistle by.” (From A Railway Carriage-RL Stevenson)

A journey by a speeding train is an exciting experience. The modern age seems to be obsessed with speed. So people prefer to travel by the railways than by road.

Description of the Journey:

One day, my father announced that we were going to visit Shantiniketan during the winter holidays. I was simply thrilled. On the scheduled day, we reached Howrah station in the morning. The Shantiniketan Express stood majestically at the platform. The station was humming with the din and bustle. There were rings of people before the ticket counters. We entered a compartment and settled down for the journey. I managed a seat beside a window. Soon the signal was green at the far end of the platform. Within a minute, the train began to move. We glided out of the station. Then it picked up speed.

As the train thundered on, I surrendered my ears to the rattle of the train wheels. They were making rickety-rackety sounds when they rolled over the tracks. I looked outside through the window to get a view of the Nature outside. The train was passing by harvested fields, meadows, brooklets, and small ponds. Through the window, the world outside looked like a motion picture. Everything looked very bright and pleasant in the morning sunshine.

I looked about my compartment. Father was flipping through a magazine. Mother was chatting with an elderly couple. The hawkers and vendors were selling various foodstuffs. A beggar was singing a song while begging. In the meantime, the train reached at Guskara station. After half an hour it reached Bolpur.

My Feelings:

I got spellbound to see the fantastic wild beauty of nature through the window. The greatness of God manifested in nature’s creations. I remembered some lines of a poem-

“The true pleasing spirits sight’s That may breed true love’s delights” (Nicholas Breton)

The breeze was gentle, fresh, glorious, and a pleasure to breathe. It was pouring into our compartment from outside. I sometimes lost my sense of individuality and seemed to expand through the window. Thus, I wanted to establish a magical link with nature.

Conclusion:

Thus ended my first train journey. This journey was so pleasant that l experienced an intense high.

Beginning of the journey.

My train journey started early in the morning. I was excited as it was my first long-distance journey. My parents and I boarded the train from our city station.

Scenic Beauty

As the journey commenced, I enjoyed the scenic beauty outside. The lush green fields, towering mountains, and flowing rivers were breathtaking. It was like watching a live painting.

Co-Passengers

I met different people during the journey. Some shared their experiences and stories, making the journey more enjoyable. It was a great way to learn about diverse cultures and traditions.

My train journey was an unforgettable experience. It taught me to appreciate nature and respect different cultures.

250 Words Essay on My Train Journey

The prelude.

My train journey began on a chilly winter morning. Wrapped in the warmth of anticipation, I made my way to the bustling station, the heart of countless stories waiting to unfold.

The Commencement

As the locomotive pulled into the station, a wave of excitement washed over me. The rhythmic chugging of the train resonated with the beating of my heart, echoing the promise of a memorable journey ahead.

Windows to the World

Once aboard, I was greeted by a panorama of diverse landscapes unfurling outside the window. The train, like a moving canvas, painted vivid pictures of rural idylls, urban sprawls, and the changing hues of the sky, offering glimpses into the vast tapestry of life.

The Human Spectrum

The train journey was not just about the physical landscapes, but also the human landscapes. The diversity of co-passengers, each with their unique stories, added color and depth to the journey. Conversations flowed like the landscapes outside, bridging the gap between strangers and turning them into momentary companions.

The Journey Within

A train journey is as much about the inward journey as it is about the outward. The rhythmic motion of the train, the changing sceneries, and the transient nature of co-passenger relationships, all serve as a metaphor for life’s journey, prompting introspection and self-discovery.

The Destination

As the train pulled into the destination, I was left with a sense of fulfillment. The journey was not just about reaching a physical location but about the experiences gathered, the connections made, and the insights gained. The train journey, in essence, was a microcosm of life’s journey, filled with its share of ups, downs, twists, and turns.

500 Words Essay on My Train Journey

The prelude: the excitement of anticipation.

The concept of a train journey often evokes a sense of nostalgia, a throwback to an era where the journey was as significant as the destination. My first train journey was an expedition that stirred a concoction of emotions within me.

The Onset: Embracing the Chaos

The journey began at the bustling railway station, a microcosm of life itself. The cacophony of vendors, the impatient honking of trains, and the anticipation of travelers created an orchestration of chaos and excitement. As I boarded the train, the rhythmic clatter of wheels against the tracks signaled the commencement of an adventure.

The Journey: A Kaleidoscope of Experiences

The train journey was a kaleidoscope of experiences. The compartment was a social melting pot, bringing together a diverse array of individuals. Conversations flowed as freely as the landscapes outside the window, ranging from politics to shared food, creating a sense of community within the confines of the train.

The Window: A Moving Canvas

The window of a train transforms into a moving canvas, painting pictures of the changing landscapes. Verdant fields, quaint villages, bustling cities, and serene rivers; the scenery was a testament to the country’s diversity. The changing hues of the sky reflected in the window, from the golden sunrise to the tranquil night, added an ethereal quality to the journey.

The Night: A Symphony of Silence

As night descended, the train journey took on a different character. The compartment’s humdrum subsided into a symphony of silence, punctuated by the train’s rhythmic lullaby. The flickering lights of distant settlements, like stars on the ground, added a touch of magic to the journey.

The Culmination: The Arrival

The arrival at the destination signaled the end of the journey, but the emotions and experiences lingered. The train journey was not merely a mode of transport but a voyage of discovery, an exploration of diverse landscapes and cultures.

Reflection: The Transformation

In retrospect, the train journey was a transformative experience. It was a reminder of the simple pleasures of life, a testament to the joy of slow travel, and an exploration of the diverse tapestry of human experiences. The journey was an embodiment of the adage, “It’s not the destination, but the journey that matters.”

Conclusion: The Enduring Charm of Train Journeys

In an era of fast-paced travel, the charm of a train journey endures. It allows for a slower, more immersive exploration of the world, fostering connections with fellow travelers and offering a window into the soul of the landscapes it traverses. The train journey, in its essence, is a celebration of the journey itself, a testament to the joy of travel, and a reminder of the diverse tapestry of human experiences.

Essay on Journey By Train 200+ Words

Picture this: You’re sitting by the window, watching the world go by, as the rhythmic clatter of wheels on tracks fills the air. A journey by train is not just a means of transportation; it’s an adventure filled with scenic beauty, historic significance, and a touch of nostalgia. In this essay, I will argue that a journey by train is a unique and captivating experience that offers a window into the heart and soul of a region.

The Scenic Beauty

One of the most captivating aspects of a train journey is the stunning scenery that unfolds outside your window. Whether you’re crossing vast landscapes, traversing rolling hills, or gliding alongside rivers, the views are often breathtaking. For example, a train ride through the Swiss Alps offers panoramic vistas of snow-capped peaks and lush valleys.

Experts in travel and tourism highlight the scenic beauty of train journeys as a major attraction. Many travelers choose train travel specifically to immerse themselves in the natural beauty of the regions they pass through.

The Historical Significance

Trains are more than just a mode of transportation; they are a symbol of progress and history. The construction of railroads played a pivotal role in shaping countries and connecting distant regions. For instance, the Trans-Siberian Railway in Russia is a marvel of engineering that spans thousands of miles, linking Moscow to Vladivostok.

Historians emphasize the historical significance of train travel. Trains have been central to the development of nations and the movement of goods and people.

The Nostalgia Factor

There’s something nostalgic about a journey by train. It harks back to a time when travel was more leisurely, and the journey was as important as the destination. The sound of the train’s whistle, the clickety-clack of the wheels, and the cozy compartments evoke a sense of nostalgia for days gone by.

Literature and art often romanticize train travel, capturing its nostalgic charm. Films, books, and songs have celebrated the allure of trains and the emotions they evoke.

The Sense of Connection

A train journey provides a unique sense of connection to the places you pass through. Unlike air travel, where you often land in large airports far from the heart of a city, trains take you right into the heart of towns and cities. You can witness daily life unfolding outside your window, from bustling markets to serene countryside.

Travel enthusiasts praise train travel for its ability to create a deeper connection to the regions and people you encounter. It allows you to engage with local culture and experience the authentic essence of a place.

Environmental Benefits

Trains are also an environmentally friendly mode of transportation. They produce fewer greenhouse gas emissions per passenger mile compared to cars and airplanes. Trains are energy-efficient and contribute to reducing air pollution and congestion on the roads.

Environmental experts emphasize the sustainability of train travel as a way to reduce the carbon footprint of transportation. Choosing trains over other modes of travel can have a positive impact on the environment.

Conclusion of Essay on Journey By Train

In conclusion, a journey by train is more than just a way to get from one place to another; it’s a captivating experience that offers a window into the world’s beauty, history, and nostalgia. The scenic beauty, historical significance, and sense of connection make train travel a unique adventure. Moreover, the environmental benefits of train travel make it a responsible choice for those who care about our planet. So, next time you have the opportunity, consider embarking on a journey by train, and let the rails take you on a magical ride through both space and time.

Essay on Train Journey

A train is not just a vehicle. It carries emotion; it carries the joy of moving forward, it carries the thrill of speed. Many times, when we read about any train journey in a book or on the internet, we are told the story of traveling in inter-state trains. However, a local train-journey is not devoid of thrill, adventure and happiness either. There is a thrill of being on time, the adventure of exploring local sites and the happiness of being able to travel comfortably and safely.

Details of My Memorable Train Journey

Last week I traveled to ____________ from _____________ on a local train. It was my maiden train journey. I had always dreamt of visiting ___________ and too by a Train. I was very excited and had made all the arrangements on the previous night. I woke up earlier that day, had my bath and  breakfast. I prepared myself for the journey I was very excited about, I wore my favorite clothes and took some light snacks with me.  I reached the station at 10 am. Just from the first look at the station I knew this was going to be a very thrilling and adventurous journey. The station itself had many stories to tell. There were so many people- families, office-goers, masons, laborers, vendors, the fruit hawkers and food sellers and so on. All looked so busy, so full of life.  I checked into the station and located the platform where my Train was going to arrive. I reached the particular platform no. and sat on one of the many available benches. There were many people waiting for their respective trains. One train arrived just 5 mins after I reached the platform but that was to a separate destination and my train was coming after that. People boarded that train, it waited for a few minutes and after that it departed. As I was sitting in the station for my train to arrive, I saw many trains come and go at different platforms. A deep realization engulfed me- the trains come and go, the station remains the same.

My Experience of Train Journey

Almost 15 minutes later, our train arrived. The train was pretty new and had a very attractive color combination of maroon and blue painted on it. It had “Made In India” written on it in  big letters and our national flag was painted next to it. I felt very proud about it and got more excited about this journey. Since this was my first time travelling by train, I wanted to experience the moment at its fullest and thus before boarding the train I waited to see how the passengers boarded the train and how people wanted to get in first so that they could sit on a seat. After I was done with my experience, I boarded the train before its departure time. I got into the train and was eagerly looking for a seat so that I could sit.  There was so much rush as it was office hour. At first, there was no seat for us to sit. All those who were standing were trying to get themselves a seat but once we moved for a few minutes, everyone settled with their position in the Train, some got a seat and some didn’t. The train started moving and the station moved backwards. The sound it created as the Train moved was something new to me, I had heard it in the movies and dramas but experiencing it first hand was something very enthralling. I was imagining how this sound was being created as the train rolled on the tracks, the giant size and huge weight of the train could be realized as the train accelerated and the sound got louder. It felt so amazing to imagine that the train was still but the trees and the houses were moving. However, it was hard for me to look out from the window because of the crowd. I still managed to stand near the window and get myself a look outside. There were green meadows somewhere and at some places we could see the concrete jungles, buildings and houses constructed alongside the train track. The beauty of green meadows is what I liked the most and wished we could have more of them, the beauty of nature I experienced in the moving train seemed to be more lively and soothing than the commercial areas. There were different kinds of people in the train involved in distinct activities of their own, some in the groups and some alone. The office goers were the regular commuters, so they remained in their group and talked about politics and the sports. The women in the train were sitting and wiping the sweat off their faces. I saw two senior citizens. They were standing. It felt good to see that some of the passengers offered their seats to those two people. However, there were some rowdies too in the train who were standing near the door and were blocking the entrance. People were finding it hard to enter the train because of them.

As two or three stations passed, the crowd in the train became thin. Now, I can enjoy the journey. I got a seat. The typical sound of the train moving had a rhythm to it. It felt musical. While seated, I could feel the rhythm of the moving train in a better way. I grabbed the snacks I had with me and started to enjoy the journey. Outside the window, I could see the meadows, the houses, the cows and goats. The train was moving at a decent speed and the air from the window brushed my face. It felt good in the sweltering heat. There was a couple sitting on the opposite seat. They had a 5-year old daughter traveling with them. Somehow, the family and I started a conversation and it felt good to meet new people.

I talked to other people in the train as well and they told me about the conveniences the train travel gives them over taking a cab or driving a car themselves. They also explained the difficulties they face in the Train travel like rushin the train, delays in the train timing, cancellation of trains at times and inadequate  seating capacity of the trains. But most of them were very happy with the new trains, people explained that these trains were more comfortable and affordable to them and also the cancellation and delay problems were very less with the new trains.

While I was on the train, many hawkers boarded the compartment. They were selling different kinds of things. Some were selling toffees and snack items, some were selling files and copies, some were selling perfumes and so on. The speciality of these local train hawkers was, they can outshine any advertisement-writer with their own sales-pitch. Their sales pitches were not bland and dry. Some sang songs, some imitated the politicians while selling things. They had a very distinct sense of literature.

At this point I realized how different forms of employment were generated by introduction of railways and I couldn't even imagine the number of families that were dependent on the trains for their livelihood. I also got to know the fact that Indian railways is the largest employer in India and employs about 1500000 people. The hawkers were changing frequently, they boarded at one station and unboarded after a few stations. Then new hawkers came in at that station and the cycle continued.

There was one thing that I wish I had not experienced. Apart from the green meadows and huge constructions that I saw from the windows, I also saw countless huts and tin-shade houses. There were many slums that were present beside the rail line. The poverty all around was disheartening to see. I could see the children living in these huts and tin houses, somewhere playing and some were helping their parents in doing their work. I wished that they could go to the school and get education so that they could be earning good and could then help their parents and build themselves decent houses. I promised myself to help these poor people when I start earning money.

The train was about to reach my destination station, the rush had again built up and I thought of going near the exit so that it would be easier for me to unboard. I prepared my bag and offered my seat to another person who was standing near my seat. As the train stopped at my destination station, I got down. After leaving the station, I felt like I was living on another planet for the past 40 minutes. It was not a train journey. It was an epiphany.

Though born in London, poet, suffragette, critic and essayist Alice Meynell (1847-1922) spent most of her childhood in Italy, the setting for this short travel essay , "By the Railway Side."

Originally published in "The Rhythm of Life and Other Essays" (1893), "By the Railway Side" contains a powerful vignette . In an article titled "The Railway Passenger; or, The Training of the Eye", Ana Parejo Vadillo and John Plunkett interpret Meynell's brief descriptive narrative as "an attempt to get rid of what one may call the "passenger's guilt" -- or "the transformation of someone else's drama into a spectacle, and the guilt of the passenger as he or she takes the position of the audience, not oblivious to the fact that what is happening is real but both unable and unwilling to act on it" ("The Railway and Modernity: Time, Space, and the Machine Ensemble," 2007).

By the Railway Side

by Alice Meynell

My train drew near to the Via Reggio platform on a day between two of the harvests of a hot September; the sea was burning blue, and there were a sombreness and a gravity in the very excesses of the sun as his fires brooded deeply over the serried, hardy, shabby, seaside ilex-woods. I had come out of Tuscany and was on my way to the Genovesato: the steep country with its profiles, bay by bay, of successive mountains grey with olive-trees, between the flashes of the Mediterranean and the sky; the country through the which there sounds the twanging Genoese language, a thin Italian mingled with a little Arabic, more Portuguese, and much French. I was regretful at leaving the elastic Tuscan speech, canorous in its vowels set in emphatic L 's and m 's and the vigorous soft spring of the double consonants. But as the train arrived its noises were drowned by a voice declaiming in the tongue I was not to hear again for months--good Italian. The voice was so loud that one looked for the audience: Whose ears was it seeking to reach by the violence done to every syllable, and whose feelings would it touch by its insincerity? The tones were insincere, but there was passion behind them; and most often passion acts its own true character poorly, and consciously enough to make good judges think it a mere counterfeit. Hamlet, being a little mad, feigned madness. It is when I am angry that I pretend to be angry, so as to present the truth in an obvious and intelligible form. Thus even before the words were distinguishable it was manifest that they were spoken by a man in serious trouble who had false ideas as to what is convincing in elocution .

When the voice became audibly articulate, it proved to be shouting blasphemies from the broad chest of a middle-aged man--an Italian of the type that grows stout and wears whiskers. The man was in bourgeois dress, and he stood with his hat off in front of the small station building, shaking his thick fist at the sky. No one was on the platform with him except the railway officials, who seemed in doubt as to their duties in the matter, and two women. Of one of these there was nothing to remark except her distress. She wept as she stood at the door of the waiting-room. Like the second woman, she wore the dress of the shopkeeping class throughout Europe, with the local black lace veil in place of a bonnet over her hair. It is of the second woman--O unfortunate creature!--that this record is made--a record without sequel, without consequence; but there is nothing to be done in her regard except so to remember her. And thus much I think I owe after having looked, from the midst of the negative happiness that is given to so many for a space of years, at some minutes of her despair. She was hanging on the man's arm in her entreaties that he would stop the drama he was enacting. She had wept so hard that her face was disfigured. Across her nose was the dark purple that comes with overpowering fear. Haydon saw it on the face of a woman whose child had just been run over in a London street. I remembered the note in his journal as the woman at Via Reggio, in her intolerable hour, turned her head my way, her sobs lifting it. She was afraid that the man would throw himself under the train. She was afraid that he would be damned for his blasphemies; and as to this her fear was mortal fear. It was horrible, too, that she was humpbacked and a dwarf.

Not until the train drew away from the station did we lose the clamour. No one had tried to silence the man or to soothe the woman's horror. But has any one who saw it forgotten her face? To me for the rest of the day it was a sensible rather than a merely mental image. Constantly a red blur rose before my eyes for a background, and against it appeared the dwarf's head, lifted with sobs, under the provincial black lace veil. And at night what emphasis it gained on the boundaries of sleep! Close to my hotel there was a roofless theatre crammed with people, where they were giving Offenbach. The operas of Offenbach still exist in Italy, and the little town was placarded with announcements of La Bella Elena . The peculiar vulgar rhythm of the music jigged audibly through half the hot night, and the clapping of the town's-folk filled all its pauses. But the persistent noise did but accompany, for me, the persistent vision of those three figures at the Via Reggio station in the profound sunshine of the day.

Essay on A Railway Journey

( Short Essay/paragraph/article on a railway journey for class 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, with headings, 150-200-300 words, Short and easy essay, in English )

The railway is a cheap and best way of transportation. Traveling by Railway is very interesting also. Last month I decided to go to Shimla to meet my friend by train . I consulted the Railway Time Table . I found that the next train was to leave for Shimla at 10 p.m. I got ready and went to the railway station. I reached the station one hour earlier.

There was a long queue in front of the booking window . But a lady helps me to get a ticket . She purchased the ticket for me. I went to the platform with my bag. The platform was overcrowded.

After some time the signal was lowered. I saw the train approaching the platform. The train arrived and stopped. Everyone rushed towards the compartments and tried to get in. I made my way into a compartment. I was lucky to get a good seat by the window. After fifteen minutes, the guard blew the whistle and then waved the green flag . The train started and soon it was steaming off at a great speed.

The night was cool and it began to rain. I closed the windowpane and covered myself with a blanket. I looked out through the glass window. The trees , houses , and huts seemed to wheel back. The passengers were doing something or the other. Some were gossiping and chatting . Some were discussing the burning questions of the day.

The train reached Kalka. I changed my train to Shimla. After some hours I reached Shimla and meet my friend.

A Journey by Train Essay

Experience of a Journey by Train

As a young kid, I usually jumped with enthusiasm whenever my parents planned a trip, as I loved travelling, especially by train. My journeys by train were always comfortable and unforgettable. I always looked forward to my vacations because that was the time when I got to visit my father’s ancestral home located in a remote village. Due to my father’s job, we were stationed in a town, and it was during my 10-day vacation that I was able to journey by train to meet my grandparents.

Normally, we start early in the morning as our train will leave at 7.30 am from Hasanpura station. Inside the train station, many porters circled my parents, demanding to carry our luggage. But we used to get past them to reach our platform and wait for a few minutes before the train arrived. Nonetheless, the wait is not dull as I get to observe many people around and listen to their chitter-chatter.

We kept our bags ready as we heard the announcement of the train arriving. After boarding the train and sitting near the window, I heard the station master blow the whistle and wave the green flag. Slowly, the train started moving, and once it left the platform, it sped up. From here begins my joyous ride on the train. The most exciting part of my train journey was the number of vendors that passed our berths, where I could eat some delicious snacks and buy some colouring books. The seat was spacious, and yet I jumped to the top berth to enjoy colouring or get a good sleep.

After some time, I sat by the window and took in the beautiful sights of the village. With blooming trees and working people on the fields, it was truly an attractive sight outside. If I were to travel by car or bus, I wouldn’t have been able to see these wonderful places as I easily became travel sick. But a journey by train enables me to enjoy each moment and experience.

Moral of the Essay

Even though we like all sorts of travel, it is the journey by train that makes it special. We would be able to feel nature at its best and interact with people from different backgrounds while travelling on a train. A journey by train essay for kids would undoubtedly enable them to think about their unique train journey experiences and help them to identify which aspect of the journey interests them more.

Short Essay on A Journey by Train – Essay 1 (200 words)

A journey by train is among the most enjoyable journeys. I travel long distance quite often and have travelled via buses, trains as well as aeroplanes. While each of these journeys has its set of benefits, I personally love train journeys.

A journey by train is the best if you have enough time and have to travel long distance. This is the only means of transport that allows you to sleep comfortably during the journey. I prefer travelling at night. I can comfortably sleep in the train during my journey and wake up fresh and head to work during my official trips. One of my most memorable journeys by train was when I travelled from Delhi to Lucknow last year. I went to visit my relatives in Lucknow. During this train journey, I met a group of college students. The group was lively, cheerful and extremely friendly.

As I was sitting right besides them, they offered me some snacks and cold drink. They soon began conversing with me. They narrated some of their experiences and I shared mine. I also gave them career advice. The six hours journey passed very swiftly and we reached Lucknow. As we parted, we exchanged our phone numbers and promised to keep in touch.

Essay on Train Journey – Essay 2 (300 words)

Introduction

Train journeys are always fun. They have always excited me. I have been travelling via trains ever since my childhood. My maternal grandparents lived in Kanpur and we stayed in Delhi. We always travelled via night train to reach Kanpur. We visited them twice a year and I really looked forward to this trip not only because I loved meeting my grandparents but also because I really loved the train journey. My sister loved it as much and together we had a lot of fun.

My Most Memorable Train Journey

We mostly went there with our mother during our summer and winter vacations. However, once my aunt and cousins also accompanied us. This was one of the best train journeys of my life. We took to the top berth after having the delicious biryani our mother had cooked for us.

We had already planned that we will stay awake until late at night to enjoy the journey in each other’s company. We began the fun by playing cards. As we finished a game or two, two boys sitting in the middle berth asked us if they could join us. Playing cards is always fun when there are greater number of players involved. So, we agreed. Our game became all the more exciting and we kept playing for about two- three hours. Since our compartment was occupied only by us and those two brothers and their parents, there was no fuss about turning off the lights.

After playing cards, we began a game of dumb charades. It was all the more fun. Since, we had been playing for almost four hours now, we felt hungry and it was snack time. We stealthily took out chips and biscuits from our bags. We chatted, cracked jokes and laughed heartily as we ate snacks. It was almost 2 at night when we decided to sleep.

This was indeed a great experience. I will remember this train journey all my life. I made memories to cherish forever.

Essay on My Train Journey: Best Experience – Essay 3 (400 words)

It was the month of September and the autumn break was about to begin in a few weeks’ time. Our first term exams had just been over and we were free from the burden of studies at least for a few days. Our school plans excursion trips to various places during the autumn break. I always wanted to go on such a trip and have fun with my friends.

My First Train Journey with Friends

While my parents allowed me to go on local school excursions, they had always been sceptic about sending me on out stationed trips. They thought I was too young and careless and thus feared sending me. I tried to convince them each year I saw the notice about these school trips pasted on the notice board but they refused. However, after a lot of persuading in class VII, my mother promised that she will send me when I reach class IX as I will grow older and become more mature by then.

So, last year I reminded her of her promise. Though reluctant, she agreed to send me on my school trip to Jaipur. She also convinced my father and he gave the written consent along with the amount that had to be deposited for the trip. My joy knew no bounds. Few of my close friends had also got consent from their parents and we were super thrilled about our trip. I was not only excited about visiting Jaipur but also about the train journey.

My Train Journey Experience

I was lucky to get the window seat. It was a day journey of around 5 hours and there was a lot to see outside the window. The sight of small sand hills, green fields and long roads fascinated me and I glued to the window for most part of the journey. For the rest of the journey, we played dumb charades and antakshari which was super fun. I just wished the journey never came to end. However, before we even realized, we reached the Jaipur station. As I roamed around from fort to fort in the Pink city, I dreamt of the train journey back to my home town as I thoroughly enjoyed train journeys. Our train journey back home was as much fun.

Train journeys have always fascinated me. I have gone on quite a few of them but this one was all the more special as I was accompanied by my friends. I am looking forward to more such train journeys.

Essay on My Awesome Train Journey – Essay 4 (500 words)

Train journeys have always fascinated me. Be it a day journey or a night journey I, always prefer travelling by train. During my day journey by train, I love sitting by the window to watch the view outside. I just love the sight of the green fields, huge trees, huts and water bodies. I can sit for hours watching this view from the moving train. What I like about the night journeys is that trains offer a lot of space and comfort. We can lie down comfortably and doze off to sleep. Sleeping in a moving train is an experience of its own and I just love it.

My Train Journey from Shimla to Kalka

While all my train journeys have been memorable there is one that I will cherish forever. This was my train journey from Shimla to Kalka. This train journey was like no other.

We had heard a lot about the Shimla – Kalka train journey and really wanted to experience it. It is said that the train comes under the world heritage list of UNESCO. However, since our plan was made all of a sudden, we could not get the tickets for travelling from Kalka to Shimla which was disappointing.

At first, we thought of cancelling or postponing the trip however then we decided to take a bus to Shimla. The tickets from Shimla to Kalka were available so we booked our return journey by the much talked about toy train that runs on this route. While I was all excited about my trip to Shimla and enjoyed every bit of it with my family, I was constantly dreaming about our journey back home as I couldn’t wait for the toy train experience.

My Awesome Train Journey Experience

We reached the station few minutes before the train departure time. I was thrilled looking at the train and couldn’t wait to board it. We soon kept our luggage in the train and sat on our seats. I grabbed the window seat to witness the scenic view outside. As the train started, I saw the mesmerizing view of the hills covered with pine trees. There was greenery all round. It had rained a night before and thus the flora looked even greener and fresh. It was a breathtaking sight.

The toy train covers a distance of 96 km and there was not a single moment when we got bored during this journey. There was so much to view and experience. The train travels at a slow speed and takes around 5-6 hours to reach Kalka so that we can experience the natural surroundings to the fullest. It goes through 102 tunnels and this makes the journey all the more amazing. It also passes over as many as 864 bridges and offers an experience which is one-of-its-kind. While I sat by the window for most part of my journey, I also went and stood by the train door for around an hour or so to have a closer look at the nature.

Every bit of my train journey from Shimla to Kalka was enjoyable. The experience was simply unmatched. Every train journey lover must experience this at least once in their life time. Nature lovers would love it all the more.

Long Essay on Train Journey: Advantages and Disadvantages – Essay 5 (600 words)

Train journeys are preferred by many owing to the various benefits they offer. However, some people much rather prefer travelling by their own vehicle or buses to avoid the downside of the train journeys. At times, it becomes quite difficult to decide the mode of transport as all these have their own set of pros and cons. Here is a look at the various advantages and disadvantages of train journey:

Advantages of Train Journey

Here are the various advantages of train journey:

  • Space and Comfort

Train is one of the best means of transports if we look in terms of space and comfort. There is enough space to sit and even lie down, a privilege we don’t get in the buses, cars or planes. Kids can easily play board games. Group outings become all the more fun as we can enjoy various games and activities sitting face to face.

  • Long Journeys Made Easy

Since trains offer berths to sleep and washrooms to freshen up, travelling long distance via trains becomes quite easy. The washroom facility is especially one of the main benefits train journeys offer over bus and car journeys.

  • No Restriction on the Amount of Luggage

There is a limit to the amount of luggage one can carry in the aeroplane. Buses also do not have enough space to accommodate a lot of luggage. However, there is no such restriction during the train journeys. If you require carrying a good amount of luggage then train journeys are certainly the best.

  • Safe Option

Train is also considered a safer means to travel compared to buses, cars and aeroplanes. Travelling in hills is especially safer via trains compared to buses and cars.

  • Allows Productive Use of Time

You can easily take out your laptop and work on it while you are travelling via train. You can also read your book comfortably or indulge in other tasks such as knitting and sewing while travelling through train.

Disadvantages of Train Journey

Here are some disadvantages of train journey:

  • Planning Ahead

One of the main difficulties of travelling via train is that you have to plan your journey months or weeks before your travel date. It is difficult to get train tickets for trips that are planned instantly.

  • Difficulty in Reservation

Train reservation is a difficult task. You have to visit the railway station and stand in the queue for hours to get the tickets reserved which is extremely tiring. You can also get the ticket reserved online but that is again a tedious task as the train booking site is too slow.

  • Fixed Schedule

Trains run on a fixed schedule. You may be required to catch trains at odd times and this can be difficult at times. Delay in reaching the railway station even by a few minutes means missing the train and it is difficult to spend time on the railway station if you reach early.

  • Slower Option

Travelling a long distance by train means investing a day or two in journey is unlike planes which can cover same distance within few hours. So it is not a good option for students or working professionals who cannot take so many leaves and spend so much time on travelling.

  • Cleanliness Issue

While trains have washrooms which is considered to be a big plus of the train journeys these are mostly not maintained well. Un-kept and unclean washrooms are a big put off. Their use must be avoided as it can cause infection.

Thus, we see train journeys have a number of advantages however they also have certain disadvantages. While space, comfort and the facility to carry enough luggages attracts travellers to option for train journeys, difficulty of reservation and the need to plan the journey way ahead of the travel date makes them look for other options.

Essay on A railway Journey

the railway journey essay

During my last summer vacation, I went to Shimla. I traveled by train with my mother.

We packed our luggage and hired an auto-rickshaw. We reached the railway station. We bought tickets and then returned to the train. Some people were standing and some others were sitting on the benches.

The train arrived. We entered our compartment. We had comfortable seats near the windows. There were people from different States and different areas of the train.

Some passengers were polite and some were rude. Some were talkative and others were quiet.

The train stated. I started looking out of the window. The green fields looked very beautiful. After six hours we reached Kalka station. We had dinner at the platform.

We again got on the train. The small engine ran on the narrow rail tracks.

I enjoyed the scenery of green hills on either side of the railway line. We also passed through the dark tunnels. The journey to Shimla was very pleasant.

A railway journey | A railway journey essay with quotations | A railway journey paragraph

It is said that to go to travel is to go to school. It means that by travelling from one city or country to another, we can learn a lot about life, the world around us, human nature, man's behaviour and his actions and reactions in odd circumstances. Those who are inquisitive by nature travel extensively and gain knowledge about customs, traditions, rites, rituals and ways of living of different people belonging to different creeds and countries. They communicate this knowledge to us through their travelogues which are read with great interest and admiration throughout the world.

Unfortunately, I am one of those who are though not idle and dull, hate moving from place to place reading people's faces, commenting on their behaviour and inferring some bad results. Whenever I have to travel to some other city, I just feel sick. On the train, I occupy a seat near a window, close my eyes and dive deep into the ocean of sleep But last month, during my journey from Multan to Lahore I had to keep my eyes wide open because I was forced to keep standing on my thin and lean legs for hours by a fat, piggish a woman who had occupied my seat.

Eld brings blessings of God who purifies our souls. But it also brings golden opportunities for those who like to collect illegal gratification to fill their children's bellies with the fire of hell One such rogue had resold my seat to the lady. The compartment was jam-packed but still more passengers were trying to enter it. They were pushing and pulling one another. Some were abusing the railway authorities who had not made proper arrangements for the people to travels on the occasion of Eid.

Three educated persons who were discussing moral values, social problems and political chaos of the country refused to give some space to the old man who pleaded that he was sick and would not be able to stand.

An old man bought a newspaper but he could not read it himself. The passengers who were sitting beside him requested him to give them the inner pages. The old man grumbled but handed over the newspaper to them. The newspaper travelled in the whole compartment and after an hour or two when it came back in the hands of the old man it was worn and torn. It could now be used as toilet paper only.

In the meantime, beggars kept pouring in, Lame, blind, widows, sick and orphan all kinds of beggars were there to expose our social, moral and economic bankruptcy.

I was now dead tired. My legs were also numb. I could not stand it anymore. The big, fat lady was snoring like an elephant. All of a sudden, the train stopped with a jerk and I losing my balance fell into her lap. I felt as if I had fallen on some big balloon. The lady screamed loudly, opened her eyes and with her giant hands threw me to the front seat. Now it was my turn to close the eyes. Perhaps I was unconscious. When I opened my eyes, I was in my Chachu's bedroom. He was standing near me and singing,

"Kinnae kinnae jana ay Billo thay ghar". I cried, "No, no! I'll not go anywhere. Not even to Billo's ghar".

A Paragraph On A Journey By Train For Children

Essays on train journeys are an interesting topic that can be composed by students of all classes. But, students of smaller classes need guidance in smaller sentence concentration. Here is a small paragraph on a journey by train for children:

Different modes of transportation provide unique experiences, but nothing beats the thrill of a train ride. Most people prefer train travel because it is a less expensive mode of transportation. Train rides are my favourite mode of transportation because they are so comfortable. Some people enjoy night train rides because they allow them to arrive at their destination overnight. I enjoy day-train rides because I enjoy looking out the window at the scenery. It’s a completely different experience to read a book or listen to music while sitting near the window. Train rides are always enjoyable for me.

Train journey essays are one of the most common topics given to students as holiday homework. Below is a journey by train paragraph that can give you ideas as to how to write a train journey essay for your school assignments:

Train rides, no matter how short or long they are, are something that we all look forward to. Last week, I had the opportunity to travel by train from Howrah to Bandel to meet one of my friends. I had planned to take the 10:30 a.m. train, but when I woke up on the day of the trip was pouring heavily. I had given up hope, but the rain god showed mercy on us, and it stopped raining.

One of my other friends and I managed to board the 11:00 a.m. train. It was not rush hour, so the train was not crowded. I quickly got myself a window seat to enjoy the greenery of Kolkata’s outskirts. The rain had made the weather pleasant, which was a bonus and made our journey more enjoyable. We arrived at our destination after nearly an hour, though I was sad to see it end soon.

Experiencing new things and being able to write those experiences in words is a very important skill that everyone should learn. Below is a train journey essay for class 3, which gives you a brief idea about the topic:

We’ve all travelled by train at some point in our lives. Since India is a developing country with a large middle-class population, train travel is the most convenient and safest option for them. Almost all routes have trains, making it easier for people to get to their destination in one trip.

Pros and Cons Of Train Journey

Train journeys have certain advantages as well as disadvantages such as:

Pros of Train Journey

  • Relaxing journeys : Trains are known for their spaciousness and comfort. We don’t have to sit in an uncomfortable position for the longer duration of the journey, as we would on a bus. We can book an entire berth to ourselves to comfortably sit or even lie down.
  • Beautiful scenery : Train rides on hilly routes have enchanting beauty. Whether a regular train or a toy train, the view of hills all around is sure to captivate everyone.
  • Unlimited luggage : There is a limit to the amount of luggage that can be carried on a plane. Train travel, on the other hand, is not the same.
  • Long journeys : Train journeys are usually preferred over car and bus journeys because they are more comfortable. Furthermore, train travel is ideal for people suffering from motion sickness, as driving or taking a bus is inconvenient.

Cons Of Train Journey

  • Ticketing : Even though bookings open four months before the date of travel, popular destinations’ tickets are always on a waiting list, causing inconvenience. Furthermore, because the majority of the process is now done online, it becomes difficult for people who do not have access to a system.
  • Excess time : If you have an emergency and need to get somewhere quickly, taking the train is not the best option. Train journeys can take up to two days to reach some destinations, making them unsuitable for working professionals.
  • Inadequate sanitisation : Train washrooms appear perfect when the train leaves the boarding station, but as the journey progresses, the condition of the restrooms and basins are quite questionable!

These train journey essays will assist your child in making their content flow. They will be more aware of what to write and how to structure their thoughts in such essays. They will be more aware of their surroundings and interested in everything around them the next time they go on a journey like this.

1. Why are train journeys the best?

Rail travel is both comfortable and exciting for children. If you are travelling to a hill station, they can get a better look at the mountains and hills, making it a memorable experience. Train journeys come under an inexpensive mode of transport also.

2. What makes train journeys so comfortable?

Train rides are very comfortable because we can sit or even lie down comfortably on our berth. Furthermore, it does not feel like being stuck in a chair with no freedom of movement, as in a plane or bus.

3. What precautions should you take while travelling on a train?

Some people have been seen standing near the train’s gate, which is extremely dangerous and should be avoided. One should not smoke inside the train compartment. Now, taking COVID precautions is mandatory in every kind of journey. Check your luggage before boarding and deboarding a train.

Train journeys are amazing in many ways, and kids enjoy them thoroughly. Making kids write an essay on a train journey is a good way to stir them creatively. It will make them well-versed with the nuances of sentence construction also.

My parents had always been skeptical of sending me on out stations trips even though they allowed me to go on school excursions in the local area. They considered me too young and careless, so they feared sending me. Every year I would try to convince my friends about these school trips but they would refuse.

When I was in class VII, my mother promised me she would send me when I reach class IX because I would be more mature by then. So, last year I reminded her of her promise. Though reluctant, she agreed to send me on my school trip to Jaipur.

She also convinced my father and he gave the written consent along with the deposit for the trip. My joy knew no bounds. I had the consent of my parents, as well as a few of my closest friends, and we were so excited to take this trip. Not only was I excited about visiting Jaipur, I was also excited about the train journey .

My Train Journey Experience

I got the window seat. It was a long day journey of around 5 hours and there was a lot to see out the window. I was fascinated by the sight of green fields, small sand hills and long roads for most of the trip. We played charades and antakshari for the remainder of the trip, which was a lot of fun.

It would have been nice if the journey never ended. Despite that, we arrived at the Jaipur station before we even realized it. I wandered from fort to fort in the Pink city, dreaming of the train journey back to my hometown. The train journey back home was as much fun.

Conclusion:  Train journeys have always fascinated me. It was even more special this time because I went with friends. I anticipate more train journeys like this one.

Essay on Train Journey for class 1 & 2 Students

When traveling with friends, train journeys are the best. The train trip from Delhi to Jaipur is one of my most memorable train trips. We had all been looking forward to this school trip for a long time. Our trip was full of plans, and we were hoping to have a great time while on it.

The train started within a few minutes after we arrived at the railway station at 6 in the morning. For a better view of the outside, I occupied the window seat. As we walked, we enjoyed the green fields, mud roads, and huts that we saw along the way. While looking outside, I chatted with my best friend.

It was time for breakfast soon. On the train, we had cutlets and bread. Our meal also included hot tomato soup and a plate of bread and cutlets. As soon as we finished breakfast, we all gathered to play antakshari. I enjoy playing antakshari with large groups. It was also fun to have our teachers join us. Our play continued until we reached our destination before we had even realized it had been so long. I had a great time. It was a joyous train ride with my friends by my side.

Train Journey Essay for  3rd,4th,5th Class Students

The train journey between Kalka and Shimla, which runs along this route, is even more interesting than the hill station of Shimla itself. It is mesmerizing to watch the route it takes. If one does not travel on this train on their trip to Shimla, their trip will not be complete. While planning our trip to Shimla, we bought tickets in advance to take part in this much-discussed train journey.

Journey to Shimla by Toy Train

While we were on break last year, we visited Shimla. After traveling by bus to Kalka, we took the toy train from there to Shimla. It appeared like an ordinary train journey with mountains and valleys along the way, but it was actually a very thrilling and thrilling experience. Our journey was filled with nature. As the train went through the mountains, we felt like we were a part of nature and were able to see mountains, valleys, and greenery.

It was a five- to six-hour journey that I thoroughly enjoyed. As the route went through tunnels and over bridges, there was an added experience. On the route, there were more than 100 tunnels and approximately 800 bridges. For the entire journey, I sat by the window.  Additionally, we hopped off the train when it stopped at a station along the way. The train stopped at the small station only for ten minutes.

As well as my parents, I was accompanied by my brother. The trip was as enjoyable for them as it was for me. On the way back, we took the same train.

In fact, this was the best train ride I have ever taken. Nature is my favorite place to be. Because of this, I enjoyed it even more. This is a route that I would like to take again.

Essay on Train Journey for class 6,7,8th Class Students

When I was in my second grade, I took my first train ride. My maternal aunt was getting married in Dehradun, so we had to travel there to attend. Everyone was filled with joy and excitement when the news broke. Mother started picking out the dresses for the wedding, and my father began to plan our trip. We have decided to travel by train with a few of our relatives. It was my first time riding a train, so I was very excited about the experience.

Planning the Train Journey

It is different to travel by train than by car. In order to travel smoothly, one must plan in advance. After studying all of the trains operating on that route, my parents chose the most convenient and suitable method. It took days to book the tickets. We had packed our bags and made all the necessary arrangements for the trip. The journey took place at night. Within minutes, the train started and we reached the station on time.

Fun on the Way

In preparation for our long journey, we welcomed our relatives. Our first meeting with many of them had been months ago. We talked about a lot of things. The two of us talked about fun things to do along the way as we sat in the car. Some of the games they brought were tabletop games. Our group started playing a fun board game.

When my mother called us for dinner a few rounds into the game, we had just finished the game. On the train, we were served a delicious dinner. In the evening, I sat at the window after having dinner. The quiet of the running train fascinated me as it was night and I couldn’t see much outside. For me, it was a unique experience.

During dinner, we played Antakshari. This was a fun game we played with all our relatives. After playing antakshari for an hour, we went to bed.

All of the middle berths were soon open and people fell asleep. When I woke up the following morning, the view outside was delightful. As I drove along, I noticed the green fields, rising sun, and hills that were at a distance, along with huts along the way. I liked this most about my train trip.

All in all, I found my first train trip to be very exciting and interesting. I enjoyed every minute of it. All the more fun was having my cousins along.

Essay on Journey by Train for Students in English | 500 Words Essay

December 20, 2020 by Sandeep

A Journey by Train Essay: One of the most memorable and exciting travel experiences is through a train journey. It is one of the most utilized public and mass transportation systems in India. Children prefer trains for sheer comfort and pocket-friendly fares. Families can sit in one place and spend quality time together. Train journey by the window gives way to beautiful sceneries of the countryside. Snacks and tea break in between add to the fun and excitement.

Essay on Journey by Train 500 Words in English

Below we have provided a journey by train essay, written in easy and simple words for class 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10.

A person travelling from one place to another is called a journey. When it comes to journey Train as a means of transport seems to serve best as it provides a spectacular view of scenic nature and lovey weather. The long-awaited vacation arrived. It was monsoon season, the best to travel to Konkan. My family and I had already decided to visit my native place Konkan to visit my grandmother , uncle and aunt and spend my holidays in luscious greenery and serene nature.

I have always been enthusiastic about travelling by train as it had left a positive image since childhood. We had booked tickets for the ordinary class compartment in advance a few months earlier as getting reserved seats can be tough. The reason for booking a regular class was that we wanted to witness the unobstructed view of the surroundings. I also carried a notepad to pen down some thoughts while passing by the picturesque view.

As we arrived at the station, the entire platform was crowded with people, and there was a lot of the hustle and bustle going around. Everybody was anxiously waiting for the train to arrive. Finally, it came and flagged on time. My parents and I settled comfortably on our berths. There was a couple with two children who shared the compartment with us. They were quite friendly and courteous.

As the train took off, I took the window seat and opened my notepad and started writing. My parents and the couple engaged in conversations, sharing their ideas and random stuff. As we reached halfway, hawkers were shouting and selling different food items, beverages and snacks in the train. Since it was raining, many people bought tea and biscuit from them. They took intervals and kept moving as and when required.

The rain took a ten-minute halt at the next station. I stepped out for a walk and witnessed the beauty surrounding the station. It was covered with green trees, foggy weather, clouds all white and black and a cold wind running swiftly on the face. The red soil for what it is famous for looked divine, and the scene was mesmerizing. The station master shouted and called all the passengers on board as it was time to leave.

On the way, we witnessed several waterfalls which are one of the remarkable features of Konkan. The glimpse of the waterfalls on the route is rare as they are seasonal and depends upon the rainfall. As the train chugged along, it passed through tunnels that gave a mystic experience. It went over the rivers that provided a sight of backwaters and magical feel. I wished I had remained on the train forever.

Waterfalls were present on both sides, making it hard to choose which one to look at. The vast stretches of green grass with water bodies displayed a view of the dream. I was feeling exotic and blissful while passing through the tunnels and enjoying the rain. The decision to travel by regular class proved futile as I could connect with nature and feel its beauty. My co-passengers were also friendly. I even walked through numerous bogies to interact with the people inside the train and spend time by understanding my culture through their incredible stories.

Others were keen on knowing my profession and the reason to visit the native place. I tried to indulge myself in every possible way so that I can take this wonderful experience in my memory to cherish it forever. I distanced myself from my mobile phone, and iPad and instead tried to pass my time through lovely conversations and sight-seeing. Suddenly, a passenger lost his wallet, and he pulled the chain to stop the train.

All the passengers flooded him with a barrage of questions and officials. He explained the reason that his wallet fell through the toilet outlet and all his money and ticket was in that wallet. Of course, there was no chance of recovering it as it was already dark. The passenger was petrified as he had to produce a ticket in front of the TTE or else he would be thrown out of the train. The co-passengers consoled him, and the train resumed its journey.

Luckily, the TTE was a humble man, and he instructed him to meet the Train Superintendent. I accompanied him and pleaded him to understand his predicament. He allowed him to travel with the condition to buy a new ticket. Since he had lost all his money, I paid for his new card, and the journey resumed. The passenger was in tears and expressed his gratitude towards my helpful nature. Even I felt my worth as a human.

A New Train Is Opening Up the Yucatán, for Better or Worse

When it’s a quick trip from the schlocky pleasures of Cancún to the remote cities of the Maya, is something lost along the way?

El Tren Maya, which links five states in southern Mexico, is one of the country’s most-debated infrastructure projects. Carved through the Yucatán Peninsula at great expense, the 966-mile loop pits the megaproject ambitions of Mexico’s departing president, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, against the will of environmentalists and Indigenous leaders seeking to preserve a pristine environment of jaguars, ancient ruins and sacred underwater caves.

The route, which partly opened in December and is expected to be in full service this year, includes a stop at Cancún International Airport, the second-busiest airport in Mexico and a gateway for international tourism, making it possible for sightseers to journey quickly from the schlocky pleasures of Señor Frogs to remote cities of the late-classic Maya. Along the way, they might stay over in the likes of Mérida, a city of stately limestone palaces once called the Paris of Mexico, or spend the night en route in private sleeping cabins traveling at nearly 100 miles per hour.

the railway journey essay

In the 19th century, the British artist and explorer Frederick Catherwood portrayed Uxmal, a gorgeous ancient city with pinkish stone structures, with only a few human figures gracing the landscape. This year, the photographer Matthew Pillsbury traveled the Tren Maya route to document the changing sites along the way, including Uxmal. An archaeologist there told him that thousands of people visit every year now, and that the train is expected to bring millions in the years to come.

Pillsbury has long focused on the ways technology changes our lives. He often uses long exposures to show how some people, marked by long, ghostly shadows, move through their environment and how others stay put. “Often the people who stop,” Pillsbury said, “are themselves in the process of photographing or being photographed.”

One picture that inspired him during his journey was a photo of his great-grandfather ascending an Egyptian pyramid with just a few friends, something that is no longer possible because of the crush of tourism. Pillsbury thought of his own recent experience climbing a temple in a remote site called Edzná, also on the route of El Tren Maya. He saw only three other tourists that day. There is going to be a time, he said, when we are going to have memories of some of these places and think back and say, “That’s crazy that I was at Edzná then, and there was no one else that day.”

On the Route of El Tren Maya

Matthew pillsbury visited stops from valladolid to palanque to cancún, a circuit of nearly a thousand miles. this is what he saw., ● valladolid.

Traveling the Tren Maya loop counterclockwise, starting and ending in Cancún in the northeast, Pillsbury first came to Valladolid, a bustling colonial city. Travelers often stay overnight as they visit sites like Cenote Oxman, one of the thousands of natural sinkholes connected by underground rivers across the Yucatán Peninsula.

● Chichén Itzá

One of the “Seven Wonders of the New World,” Chichén Itzá is about 45 minutes by car from Valladolid, the nearest major town. Many tourists take the bus in the early morning from Cancún and back again that same evening — about six hours round-trip. Spectacular ruins like El Castillo, above, have already made it one of Mexico’s most popular tourist destinations.

Izamal has been continuously occupied for more than a thousand years, first by Maya, then by Franciscan monks, who built their monastery on the foundation of an ancient citadel . Visitors to the bustling central marketplace can walk to some of the most important sites in Mayan history within just a few minutes.

One legend has the Pyramid of the Magician, in Uxmal, being built overnight by supernatural means. The ancient city, a short drive from Maxcanú, was abandoned after the 10th century A.D. for reasons unknown. The UNESCO World Heritage Convention notes that many of its impressive architectural features remain well preserved because of “ the region’s remoteness and sparse population. ”

Edzná re-emerged from history slowly, first as a mere mention by the German explorer Teobert Maler in 1887, then in a report by local workers in 1906 and finally by way of a formal investigation by the Mexican archaeologist Nazario Quintana Bello in 1927. On the day Pillsbury visited, he saw only a handful of visitors.

Palenque — in Chiapas, at the southernmost end of a long spur of the Tren Maya loop — is one of the best preserved cities of the Classic Maya era. It first came to the attention of the Spanish in 1567, when a missionary named Pedro Lorenzo de la Nada heard rumors of an abandoned city from the Chol Indians he was attempting to convert.

Rancho Encantado, a low-key hotel on Bacalar Lagoon in Quintana Roo, near Mexico’s border with Belize. The pace of development here has not yet reached the fever pitch of beach towns farther up the Riviera Maya.

Tulum, on the other hand, has quickly developed from a quiet escape from the tourist bustle of Cancún to its own, somewhat higher-dollar major destination. Now the ancient Mayan city is walking distance from a thriving beach scene.

● Playa del Carmen

The display over this shop in Playa del Carmen, once a quiet fishing village and now one of Quintana Roo’s biggest cities, is made up of hundreds of little sombreros.

● Cancún Aeropuerto

In the late 1960s, technicians with the Mexican government began feeding data into a computer program to help determine the best place to build a resort town from scratch . The answer came back: Cancún. From an empty beach in 1972, the planned city has become a wildly popular tourist destination. Now millions of visitors every year can travel back into history on the Tren Maya — or enjoy more modern pastimes at Coco Bongo Beach Party and its partner, Coco Bongo Nightclub.

Main Highlight of a Railway Station

The main highlight has to be when the train is arriving at the railway station. You will see people getting excited and waiting impatiently to board the train. They stand at the platform while waiting for the train to arrive.

On the other hand, the ones who have to deboard the train are eagerly standing at the gates of the train to get down quickly. There is a lot of commotion at this time as the ones who have to board and others who have to deboard, both do it at the same time.

There is no order to let the other one pass first. Thus, chaos and confusion take place at this time. People rush to their seats while the ones exiting want to get down as soon as possible.

There are many pickpockets as well that wait for this time to do their job. Often, people get hurt as well in all this commotion. However, despite all the commotion, it is wholesome to see friends and relatives receive and welcome their loved ones.

Boyfriend of British backpacker, 24, dies after plunging from a moving train while the pair were on overnight journey to Thailand's 'Death Island' Viral Press

A backpacker was killed after falling from a moving train on Thailand’s notorious ‘Death Island’.

Ryan Joseph Ralph, 24, boarded the overnight train with British girlfriend Shona Morgan, 22, in Bangkok to reach the notorious Koh Tao island on Wednesday.

A couple of hours into the journey, the Canadian tourist left Shona sleeping while he went for a cigarette at the end of the carriage.

He is believed to have been injured in a fall from the train before being pulled briefly along the tracks.

Tragically, he was found dead the next day under a newly built platform at the Chet Samian Railway Station in Ratchaburi province.

Police believe Ryan fell and was struck by part of the concrete platform while the train was still moving, before dragging himself underneath to escape the wheels but he later passed out and died from blood loss.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Rathnont Kasemchaisit of the Photharam Police said: ‘The dead man was shirtless, wearing brown shorts and a necklace, and lying on his back with severe injuries on both of his legs.

‘He had in his pocket a wallet containing various documents and Thai banknotes.

‘From the preliminary investigation, there were no traces of assault. We believe he had been dead for at least five hours.

‘The Canadian did not die instantly. He managed to crawl under the platform, but died of blood loss later on.’

Ryan’s girlfriend Shona said she became worried when she woke up around an hour after he left and he was not on the train and could not be contacted.

She disembarked from the train and notified officers at the nearest police station at around 10:30 pm local time.

Authorities used the GPS tracker on Ryan’s phone to launch a search, scouring the 30km stretch of tracks from the Khlong Bang Tan Railway Station to the Ban Kluai Railway Station. However, they failed to locate him.

As the search resumed the following morning, Photharam Police Station officers received a report that the body of a dead foreigner had been found under the platform of the Chet Samian Railway Station.

Police arrived at the scene, where they found dried blood on the side of the platform and on gravel.

In the gap under the platform, Ryan was discovered splayed out on the dirt.

A pair of headphones, a smartphone, and sandals believed to belong to the deceased were also found nearby.

Cambodian rail worker Makala, 23, the man who discovered the body, said he often slept under the platform during his breaks. He added he was shocked and ran to inform his boss when he found the Canadian’s corpse that day.

He said: ‘The person was lying down, so I thought he was sleeping at first. When I took a closer look, he was not breathing. I was scared so I rushed to inform my supervisor about it.’

Authorities said that Ryan may have been struck on the leg by the platform, which had insufficient lighting and was only around 50 cm away from the train tracks.

Shona, 23, said he had been in Thailand since February 17, and she flew into the country shortly after to celebrate his birthday with him.

Ryan’s body was taken to the Forensic Institute for a post-mortem examination.

Police said they had given the details to the Canadian Embassy to inform his relatives of his death.

Thailand’s ageing trains have become notorious for their poor safety standards.
