Plenty Of Adventures For Sunrise Tours’ 30th Anniversary

  • Jan 22, 2024

2024 stands as a milestone for Sunrise Tours. This year not only unveils fresh destinations and welcomes new travelers but also commemorates the company’s 30th anniversary. Founded in 1994 by St. Louis locals Jim and Charlene Dalrymple, Sunrise Tours has transitioned into the hands of their son, Brent, a Glendale resident. The company prides itself on its three decades of delivering stellar customer experiences and crafting innovative travel itineraries.

Upholding a legacy of excellence and forward-thinking, Sunrise Tours continues to raise its standards in the group travel industry. In November, the company expanded its Tour Planning team with the addition of Kirkwood resident Dena Anderson. With a background in event planning and hospitality, Dena will play a big role in driving the company’s expansion. “I am genuinely thrilled about the opportunity to work at Sunrise Tours,” says Dena. “The prospect of collaborating with this dynamic team, engaging with our esteemed clientele, and championing the brand’s pursuit of excellence is truly exhilarating.”

Anticipation runs high for 2024, highlighted by the eagerly awaited 30th Anniversary Celebration Cruise, which will navigate the scenic rivers of Holland and Belgium come April. The year unfolds with plenty of adventures, including an exploration of Maine (“Coastal Charms of Maine”), a relaxing visit to Georgia’s beautiful Golden Isles and historic St. Augustine, FL (“Golden Isles & St. Augustine”), a tracing of the New England coastline (“New England Voyage”), two opportunities to cheer for the St. Louis Cardinals on the road in Los Angeles, CA, and Minneapolis, MN, an immersive journey through U.S. history (“Pathways of Liberty”), and much more.

An exciting, new departure taking place this October is “Croatia: Yachting the Adriatic.” This exclusive journey features a 7-night stay on board the Mamma Marija II , a super yacht that traverses the Dalmatian Coast. This tour is the pinnacle of luxury as travelers will explore the enchanting landscapes of Croatia, Montenegro, and Slovenia while sailing the crystal blue waters of the Adriatic Sea.

Travelers have the opportunity to revisit beloved experiences such as taking in the fresh Lake Michigan air during “’Grand’ Vacation to Michigan,” discovering the wonders of six renowned U.S. National Parks in “Grand Canyon and Red Rocks,” embarking on a 12-day exploration of Italy’s iconic landmarks with “Classic Italy,” and reliving the nostalgia of the “Iron Horse” era in the Old West on “Colorado’s Vintage Railways.”

Sunrise Tours is thrilled to launch its 30th year serving the St. Louis community and beyond and takes pride in its Kirkwood roots. Here’s to another great year of travel!

Sunrise Tours

Sunrise Tours is a St. Louis-based, family-owned and operated travel company that arranges and books group tours of popular destinations throughout the United States and around the world. Catered predominately at the 50+ demographic, every trip is all-inclusive and features a professional tour manager/guide. In addition to St. Louis, Sunrise tours has offices in Kansas City and Indianapolis (these three cities are also departure cities for every Sunrise Tours event).

Sunrise Tours relied heavily on repeat business and repeat customers in the past, but word of mouth marketing only goes so far. Sunrise Tours needed a way to reach a broader audience, attract new leads, and convert more sales. They had a Facebook presence and maintained an organic and spirited relationship with their most loyal followers, but that wasn’t cutting it. They needed something bigger.

Word of mouth marketing can be an excellent way to grow your business, but it’s not enough (especially in a market as competitive as that of the travel industry). And while social media is certainly a vital tool in terms of digital marketing, it’s not going to do much without a coherent and goal-oriented strategy behind it. Sunrise Tours offered an excellent product, maintained a lively presence on social media, and had swarms of satisfied (and often repeat) customers. But by using all of this to their advantage, and enhancing their presence by way of targeted advertisements, Sunrise Tours was able to attract new customers, elevate their profile within the crowded market, and boost their bottom line.

How TG Helped

Sunrise Tours began their social media partnership with Timmermann Group as a B2C marketing partner in late 2019 with aspirations of using their Facebook presence to drive website traffic, connect with potential travelers, and generate and track qualified leads.

Audience Building

Improved creative assets, goal tracking.

We started our social media efforts by building a series of cold audiences based on the makeup and demographics of existing Facebook followers. We ran a series of conversion-focused campaigns at users within a 100-mile radius of St. Louis. In addition to promoting upcoming trips, we used the platform to promote regional travel shows at which Sunrise Tours would be present. Those who clicked through to the site and filled out a general inquiry form were sent the latest Sunrise Tours catalog.

While breathtaking sceneries and skylines made up much of their channel’s visual component, we aimed to embrace opportunities to reinforce the Sunrise Tours brand. Our design team crafted a collection of branded creative assets that gave sponsored and organic posts a more cohesive and polished look.

Prior to our partnership, Sunrise Tours’ social media wins were measured in terms of likes, comments, and shares (and typically by existing and repeat consumers). In order to get a better grasp on exactly how effective our social efforts could become, we leveraged Google and Facebook Analytics to monitor specific user actions (reservation requests, phone number clicks, contact form submissions, booking form downloads, etc.)

Our collaborative efforts in rejuvenating the Sunrise Tours Facebook page sparked an 82 percent increase in Facebook impressions as well as a steady increase in website traffic. Sunrise Tours cited an overall increase in catalog requests, and most importantly, bookings as well.

Best Time to View Sunrises in St. Louis

Watch the sun rise over the gateway to the west.

Best Time to View Sunrises in St. Louis

St. Louis is known for its gooey butter cake and the majestic Gateway Arch, but viewing a sunrise over this city that lies along the Mighty Mississippi can be as memorable as a peek at the river itself. Here are a few tips that will leave you chasing the best sunrises in St. Louis.

Best time to see the sunrise

In the summer, the sun can show its face as early as 5:35 a.m. for the summer solstice. By fall, the sun will rise at 6:45 a.m., or later, and in winter as late as 7:18 a.m. Check the sunrise calendar at the Time and Date website to lock down your sunrise-watching plans.

City considerations

Construction is a nearly constant fixture of St. Louis, so plan a route in advance to the viewing destination. Consider biking as a way to get there. The city provides excellent signage for bike riders. Be sure to follow traffic laws and leave extra time for navigating early morning traffic.

Think about the weather

St. Louis experiences four distinct seasons. Visitors seeking a view of the winter sunrise may encounter snow and temperatures in the 20s and 30s. Wear layers to stay warm. In summer, mornings may be pleasant with temperatures in the 70s and 80s. Summer storms, some with strong winds and tornadoes, are common, so check the forecast beforehand.

Best places to view the sunrise

The city's location along the Mississippi River can create gorgeous views of the sunrise, but there are also other locations where the beauty of the early morning can be seen.

  • Art Hill in Forest Park

Between the Saint Louis Art Museum and the Emerson Grand Basin in iconic Forest Park, Art Hill shows an excellent view of the sunrise with the statue of Saint Louis in the forefront. Go between August and April when the sun rises after 6 a.m., which is when the park opens. Watch out for boot camps, which often use the area in the early mornings, possibly disrupting an otherwise serene experience.

  • Gateway Arch

While the exhibit does not open until after sunrise, visitors can walk along the Gateway Arch Trail to watch the sun come up. Arrive early to avoid morning commuters and tourists. The area is often under construction, so be prepared to check the Gateway Arch website for closings and tips.

  • Cahokia Mounds

The Cahokia Mounds State Historic Site is just 15 minutes east of downtown St. Louis near Collinsville, Ill., and it's the best place to view the summer solstice. Each year, a group gathers just before sunrise to explore the ancient monument that members of the early Mississippian culture used as a calendar. Visitors have a great view of St. Louis as the sun rises. Arrive early to settle in before the sun appears.
