Dua for travel

The Blessings of Dua for Journeys

Dua, or supplication, is an integral aspect of the Islamic faith. It is a means of communicating with Allah, seeking His guidance, and asking for His blessings. When it comes to traveling, making dua is highly recommended as it is a way to seek Allah’s protection and guidance during the journey. In this article, we will explore the importance of dua for travel from a Sunnah perspective, and provide a dua for travel along with its Arabic text, transliteration, and translation.

In Islam, dua is considered to be the essence of worship. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) emphasized the significance of making dua in various aspects of life, including travel. He is reported to have said, “There are three whose supplication is not rejected: the fasting person when he breaks his fast, the just ruler, and the one who is oppressed” (Tirmidhi). This indicates the special status of dua, and its potency in seeking Allah’s favor.

Traveling, whether for leisure or for a specific purpose, can be fraught with uncertainties and challenges. Making dua before embarking on a journey is a way to seek Allah’s protection and guidance, and to ensure a safe and smooth travel experience. It is a way of acknowledging our reliance on Allah and humbly seeking His assistance. Moreover, the act of making dua fosters a sense of mindfulness and connection with Allah, thereby enhancing our spiritual journey.

A powerful dua for travel is as follows:

Arabic: سُبْحَانَ الَّذِي سَخَّرَ لَنَا هَذَا وَمَا كُنَّا لَهُ مُقْرِنِينَ وَإِنَّا إِلَى رَبِّنَا لَمُنْقَلِبُونَ Transliteration: Subhana-alladhi sakh-khara la-na hadha wa ma kunna la-hu muqrinin. Wa inna ila Rabbi-na la munqalibun. Translation: “Glory unto Him Who created this transportation, for us, though we were unable to create it on our own. And unto our Lord we shall return.”

This dua is to be recited during the journey, whether it be by air, land, sea, or any other means of transport. It is a way of acknowledging Allah’s control over the means of transportation and seeking His protection and guidance throughout the travel.

The act of reciting this dua not only serves as a way to seek Allah’s protection and guidance but also as a means of expressing gratitude for the means of travel and acknowledging Allah’s control over all aspects of our lives.

Giving Charity with Sincere Intentions

In Islam, charity holds immense significance, and it is regarded as a means of seeking Allah’s favor and blessings. The act of giving charity with sincere intentions can serve as a way to seek Allah’s favors, and it can potentially help in the fulfillment of one’s dua. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said, “Give charity without delay, for it stands in the way of calamity” (Tirmidhi). By giving in charity with a sincere heart, one not only fulfills their obligation towards those in need but also seeks Allah’s mercy and blessings. This act of kindness and generosity can contribute to the fulfillment of one’s supplications, including those made for safe traveling and a smooth journey.

The dua for travel provided above serves as a means to acknowledge Allah’s control over our journeys and seek His blessings for a safe and smooth travel experience. Additionally, giving in charity with a sincere heart can further aid in the fulfillment of one’s supplications.

As Muslims, it is important to incorporate these practices into our lives and recognize the power of dua and charity in seeking Allah’s favor and blessings. May Allah grant us safe travels and accept our supplications. Ameen.

Prophet Muhammad (saw) used to say Bismillah when he would mount on an animal for travelling. He then recited the following verse of the Quran:

Transliteration: Subhana-alladhi sakh-khara la-na hadha wa ma kunna la-hu muqrinin. Wa inna ila Rabbi-na la munqalibun.

Meaning: Glory unto Him Who created this transportation, for us, though we were unable to create it on our own. And unto our Lord we shall return. Surah Az-Zukhruf 43:13-14

Thereafter, he recited Alhamdulillah (all praises be to Allah) 3 times and Allahu Akbar (Allah is the Greatest) 3 times. He then recited the following dua:

After reciting the above dua, he used to look at the sky and smile. When his companion asked him why he smiles after reciting this dua, he informed them that Allah becomes happy with the person who recites this dua so the prophet smiled to express his happiness as well. (Mishkaat)

It is advisable to say takbeer (Allahu Akbar) when going upward during a journey and saying SubhanAllah when descending. Al-Bukhari narrated in his Saheeh that Jabir ibn ‘Abd-Allah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: When we went up we would say takbeer (Allahu Akbar) and when we went down we would say tasbeeh (Subhan Allah).

Prophet Mohammad (S.A.W.)’s blessed habit was to return from a journey during chasth time (before noon) within the city. He would first go to the Masjid, perform two rakaats Salaats. Thereafter he would stay in the Masjid for a little while and then go home. (Bukhari, Muslim)

Prophet Mohammad (S.A.W.) loved to journey on Thursdays. (Bukhari)

When the prophet would return back from a journey, he recited the following dua:

Transliteration: Ayiboona taiboona ‘abidoona li rabbina hamidoon.

Meaning: “Returning, repenting, worshipping and praising our Lord).” (Sahih Muslim)

Islam is a comprehensive religion that covers all spheres of life. In addition to the five obligatory prayers, Allah has commanded us to seek His blessings and guidance before undertaking any action. For instance, we must seek Allah’s protection from any harm during travelling by reciting Dua for Travelling .

Whether we travel by car, train, or airplane, we must recite certain Duas before starting our journey . Of course, we plan ahead of time, but no one is certain how our plan progresses or ends. Therefore, Muslims must seek Allah’s direction and assistance to reach their destinations safely and return home to their family. While you do so, opt for Dua Travels to maximize your experience.

Islam allows all Muslims to travel when the intentions are for the right purpose. While reciting  Dua for travelling , Muslims must firmly believe in Allah (SWT) and His blessings. He is the only one who has the power to protect us from unfortunate events like accidents and the harm of travelling. Let us explore some of the most beneficial as we must recite before and during the journey.

What Does the Holy Quran Say about Travelling?

Holy Quran, the sacred scripture, is the book of wisdom that teaches man the purpose of life and guides Muslims on the right way to lead their lives. The Islamic Holy Book covers all aspects of life and directs Muslims to success in this world and hereafter. According to the Quran, this world is temporary, and human beings are in a constant state of Travel. However, Allah (SWT) also mentions physical travelling several times.

In the Quran, ‘sayyir’ refers to the one who travels. The word sayir literally means to move or travel. Allah (SWT) used this word 27 times in the Quran in several expressions, including “Do Travel,” “Do they not Travel,” and “Tell them to Travel.”

Do they then not travel through the Earth, so that their minds gain wisdom and their ears thus learn to hear? 22:46

The Holy Prophet (PBUH) also emphasized travelling. He told the believers that travelling is a great way to expand their horizons and seek knowledge. In one instance, he said

“Keep  to  travelling by night  because the earth is folded (traversed more easily) during the  night .” [Abu Dawud].

Dua Before Travelling

Shariah recommends to off 2 rakaat nawafil before starting travel. It is because the Holy Prophet (PBUH) performed this task before going on any journey. You can get the confirmation of this practice from the following hadith.

Dua Before Travelling

“When you leave your house, perform two raka’at and this will safeguard you against evil. When you enter your home, perform another two raka’at and this will safeguard you against evil.”

(Musnad Al-Bazzar)

O Allah, You are our Companion in travel and the guardian of our family (in our absence). O Allah I seek refuge in You from the hardships of travel, a sight of grief, and from an unfortunate occurrence in wealth and family.

Dua for Travelling in Quran

The Quran clearly stated the Dua for safe Travel regardless of the mode of transport. The following Dua for Travelling is recited to seek Allah’s protection and safety throughout the journey.

There is no Dua.

In the name of Allah, I place my trust in Allah, and there is neither might nor power except with Allah.

O Allah, I seek refuge with You from leading others astray, causing others to slip or being caused to slip by others, doing wrong or being wronged by others, or behaving foolishly or being treated foolishly by others.

Alhamdu lillaahil-lathee bini'matihi tatimmus-saalihaat.

Alhamdu lillaahi 'alaa kulli haal.

Praise is to Allah in all circumstances.

Bismillaahi.

With the Name of Allah.

Laa 'ilaaha 'illallaahu wahdahu laa shareeka lahu, lahul-mulku wa lahul-hamdu, yuhyee wa yumeetu, wa Huwa hayyun laa yamootu, biyadihil-khayru, wa Huwa 'alaa kulli shay'in Qadeer.

None has the right to be worshipped but Allah alone, Who has no partner. His is the dominion and His is the praise. He brings life and He causes death, and He is living and does not die. In His Hand is all good, and He is Able to do all things.

My Lord, forgive me and accept my repentance, You are the Ever-Relenting, the All-Forgiving.

Place in my soul light. Magnify for me light, and amplify for me light. Make for me light and make me a light. O Allah, grant me light, and place light in my nerves, and in my body light and in my blood light and in my hair light and in my skin light.1 [O Allah, make for me a light in my grave... and a light in my bones.](At-Tirmithi 5/483 (Hadith no. 3419).) You know all; I know not. You are the Great Knower of all things.  O Allah! If in Your Knowledge this matter be good for my faith (Deen), for my livelihood, and for the consequences of my affairs, then ordain it for me, and make it easy for me, and bless me therein. But if in Your Knowledge, this matter be bad for my faith (Deen), for my livelihood, and for the consequences of my affairs, then turn it away from me, and turn me away there from, and ordain for me the good wherever it be, and cause me to be pleased therewith.

Understanding the Essence of Dua When Traveling

In Islam, dua is an integral part of our relationship with Allah. It is a way to communicate our hopes, fears, and desires, seeking His guidance and blessings in all aspects of life. Dua is a reflection of our faith, humility, and trust in the Divine. When we make dua, we acknowledge our dependence on Allah and His control over every aspect of our lives. Through dua, we establish a profound connection with our Creator, finding solace and strength in His infinite mercy.

Dua Before the Journey

Embarking on a journey is an exciting yet uncertain time. Before setting foot outside our homes, it is crucial to seek Allah’s protection and blessings. As the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said, “Whoever leaves his home, and says: ‘In the name of Allah, I trust in Allah, there is no might nor power except with Allah,’ it will be said to him: ‘You have been guided, defended, and protected,’ and the devil will go far away from him” (Sunan Abu Dawood).

In preparation for your journey, take a moment to make dua. Seek Allah’s protection from all potential hardships and calamities that may come your way. Offer supplications for a smooth and safe journey, accompanied by His divine mercy. By starting your travels with the remembrance of Allah, you invoke His blessings and pave the way for a secure expedition.

Dua During the Journey

As you embark on your journey, the significance of dua remains steadfast. Each step, whether on land, air, or sea, presents unique challenges and unforeseen circumstances. In these moments, turning to Allah through dua provides us with tranquility and assurance. We implore His protection, guidance, and assistance, understanding that our safety lies solely in His hands.

During the journey, offer prayers specific to each stage, seeking Allah’s safeguarding grace. Whether you’re boarding a plane, driving on a busy highway, or navigating through unfamiliar terrain, take a moment to recite supplications tailored to your circumstances. These prayers become a shield against accidents, discomfort, and any potential harm. By placing your trust in Allah and making dua, you invite His divine intervention, transforming your journey into a blessed and secure experience.

Dua Upon Arrival

Upon reaching your destination, express your gratitude to Allah for His protection and guidance. Offer prayers of thanksgiving, recognizing that your safe arrival is a testament to His mercy and benevolence. At this juncture, take a moment to make dua for a blessed stay and positive experiences throughout your journey. Seek His blessings in exploring new places, meeting new people, and gaining valuable insights from your travels.

Remember, dua is not limited to seeking protection from harm; it is also about seeking blessings, prosperity, and spiritual growth. Embrace the opportunity to connect with Allah, for He is ever-ready to respond to your heartfelt supplications.

Can dua change the course of my journey?

While we ultimately rely on Allah’s divine decree, dua has the power to invoke His intervention and influence the outcome of our journey. It instills within us a sense of tranquility, strengthens our faith, and aligns our actions with His guidance.

Are there specific duas for different modes of travel?

Yes, there are supplications and prayers tailored to various forms of travel. These include prayers for boarding a plane, driving, sailing, or any other mode of transportation. These specific duas ensure that we seek Allah’s protection and blessings throughout the journey.

In the realm of travel, dua serves as a faithful companion, offering solace, protection, and blessings. By understanding the essence of dua, making supplications before, during, and after the journey, and expressing gratitude upon arrival, we infuse our travels with spirituality and divine guidance. Embrace the power of dua, for it is an integral part of our faith and an ever-present source of strength. Let your journey be safe, blessed, and filled with the mercy of Allah, knowing that you are under His watchful care.

As we embark on our travels, may we always remember the profound impact dua can have on our journeys, both in this world and the next.

Five Powerful Duas and Prayers for Traveling

dua of travel in arabic

Last updated on November 17th, 2021 at 08:40 am

Have you ever found yourself on the plane ready to take off, but unable to find your booklet of prayers for traveling? Often we find ourselves without access to these special duas or prayers when we need them the most. In our opinion, memorizing duas is the best solution.

One of the beautiful things about Islam is that there is a prayer for our normal daily activities and even prayers for traveling abroad .  When we embark on a journey, we should recite a prayer to Allah and remember Him. It brings us closer to Allah and also saves us from any untoward incident that may take place on our journey.

As per Islamic teachings, reciting a dua not only brings Allah’s protection; it also mobilizes angels to protect us during our journey and bring us safely back home to our loved ones.

Below are the five common duas that Muslims recite before journeys, complete with Arabic verse, dua transliteration, source, and explanation.

1. Prayer for Safety When Embarking on Travel

  • Arabic Verse:
  • Dua Transliteration: Rabbi anzilni munzalan mubarokan wa anta khairul munzilin
  • English Translation: My Lord, let me land at a blessed landing-place, and You are the best to accommodate [us].
  • Source: Surah Al Muminun ayat 29

When embarking on travel, this dua is recited to protect oneself from any mishap and to ensure a safe landing. When you recite this dua, you will feel calmer and less anxious about your upcoming trip.

It is always helpful to start a journey by remembering Allah. This prayer is useful to keep with you whenever you are packing for your trip so that you can easily recite it once you leave your home or on the plane.

This prayer asks Allah to protect us when traveling abroad . It also helps us proclaim our faith and affirm the fact that there is no one that can protect us except Allah.

2. Prayer for Safety During the Trip

  • Arabic Verse:
  • English Translation: Glory unto Him Who created this transportation, for us, though we were unable to create it on our own. And unto our Lord, we shall return.
  • Source: Surah Az-Zukhruf 43:13-14

This excerpt from Surah Az-Zukhruf is a masnoon prayer that thanks Allah for providing us with the means of transportation to make our journey. This dua is short and can be easily memorized so that it becomes a habit to recite it when on a journey.

The Holy Prophet (ﷺ) recited this Surah as dua when he would mount an animal for traveling . He would say Bismillah and then recite this prayer for travel safety . We may be traveling by car, plane, train, or boat; whatever the means of transportation is, it is always important to remember Allah during our journey.

3. Prayer for Traveling to a New Place

  • Arabic Verse:
  • Dua Transliteration: Wa-qul Rabbi Adkhilnee Mudkhala S’idqiw Wa Akhrijnee Mukhraja S’diqiw Waj-a’l Lee Mil Ladunkaa Sult’aanan Nas’eeraa
  • English Translation: O Lord, cause me to enter a goodly entrance and cause me to go out a goodly exit, and grant me from you an authority to assist (me).
  • Source: Sura Al-‘Isra 17:80

The prophet (ﷺ) was in Makkah and had to emigrate to Madinah when Allah revealed this verse. The Holy Prophet (ﷺ) was being attacked by individuals in Makkah and was preparing to enter a new place.

This verse asks for Allah’s protection when taking a big decision and traveling to a new place. This decision could be anything from moving to a new city to even moving to a new home. In this prayer, we are asking Allah to bless our entrance and exit. We are looking for His assistance and blessing while we take this decision.

4. Prayer upon Reaching Destination Safely

  • Arabic Verse:
  • Dua Transliteration: Va kealarkaboo feehea bismilleahi macreahea va murseahea, inna raabbee la gaafoorun raaheem
  • English Translation: Embark there in! In the name of Allah be its course or its mooring. Lo! My Lord is Forgiving and Merciful!
  • Source: Surah Al-Hud – 11:41

This verse is from Sura Hud, which relays the trials and tribulations of Prophet Noah allehisalam. Prophet Noah was commanded by Allah to create a ship and load it with two creatures (male and female) of every living thing that had a soul.

When the command came to leave on the ship, a strong storm came that brought heavy rainfall. This verse was then revealed at that time and means that the moving course and resting (anchorage) of the ship will be all in Allah’s hands.

This is a specific verse in the Surah and is often used when someone reaches their destination safely. It is a small and short prayer that can be memorized easily when traveling abroad and after you have reached your destination.

5. Prayer Upon Returning Home

  • Arabic Verse:
  • Dua Transliteration: Ayibun, ta’ibun, ‘abidun, sajidun, lirabbina hamidun
  • English Translation: We return, repentant, worshipping, prostrating, and praising our Lord.
  • Source: Sahih al-Bukhari 3084

This short prayer for travel safety is part of a longer verse that the Holy Prophet would recite upon returning from his journeys. After he came back from a journey, he would say Allah u Akbar three times and then recite this dua.

It is important not to forget Allah once we have returned safely to our homes. Often we only remember Allah when we are starting our journey or when we are in the process of traveling. But we should be grateful to Allah once we return safe and sound.

This dua only has a few words and can be easily learned by heart so that you can recite it quickly once you return home safely after traveling abroad.

Now You Know the 5 Powerful Duas and Prayers for Traveling

We can see that all of the prayers for traveling safety are not very long and can be remembered very easily. One should understand that when you are traveling, you are putting yourself in the trust of Allah and his powers.

Only Allah can decide what our fate is, but by saying prayers before we start our journey, during the journey, and when we reach home, we are affirming the fact that we believe in Allah’s power to protect us from harm.

Meaning: O Allah, I seek refuge in You from this journey’s hardships, and from the wicked sights in store and from finding our family and property in misfortune upon returning.

Transliteration: Allāhumma Anta-s-Sāhibu fi-s-safar, wa-l-Khalīfatu fi-l-ahl. Allāhumma innī a’ūdhu bika min wa‘thā’i-s-safar, wa ka’ābati-l-munqalab, wa mina-l-hawri ba’da-l-kawn, wa min da’wati-l-mazlūm, wa min sū’i-l-manẓari fī-l-ahli wa-l-māl.

Meaning: O Allah, You are the Companion on the journey and the Deputy among the family. O Allah I seek Your protection from difficulties on the journey, sadness on returning, infidelity after faith, beseeching You as an oppressed person, and from evil befalling my wealth or family.

I seek protection in Allah from lions, black things, snakes, scorpions, and the inhabitants of the land, parents and offspring alike.

[Sunan Abu Dawud, Sunan An Nasai]

Dua When Experiencing Difficulties During Travel

During the journey time, you may face different kinds of difficulties. In those cases, it’s recommended to seek Allah’s forgiveness by saying ‘Istigfar’ (Astaghfirullah). You can also do other Dhikr, even pray Salah, and make sincere Dua to Allah to seek Allah’s mercy.

Abdullah bin Abbas (RA) reported that Prophet ﷺ said: “Whoever increases his prayers for forgiveness (i.e. Astaghfirullah), Allah will grant him relief from every worry, a way out from every hardship, and provide for him in ways he does not expect.” [Musnad Ahmad]

Allah’s Messenger ﷺ mentions the significance of making dua during travelling in the following hadith,

“Three supplications are answered without a doubt: The supplication of the oppressed, the supplication of the traveler, and the supplication of the parent for his child.” [Jami At-Tirmidhi]

Prayer of the Traveler as Dawn Approaches

Dua Upon Reaching Destination

Dua when approaching a town or village.

Suhayb (RA) that the Prophet ﷺ did not enter or see any village without saying the following dua

Transliteration: Rabbi anzilnī munzalān mubārakān wa anta khayru-l-munzilīn.

Supplication Before Entering Your Place

Suhaib (RA) narrated that the Prophet ﷺ would say upon looking at the place (town/village) he wishes to enter:

Transliteration: Allahumma rabbas samawatis sab’i wa ma azlalna, wa rabbal ardinas sab’i wa ma aqlalna, wa rabbash-shayatini wa ma adlalna, wa rabbar riyahi wa ma zaraina, as’aluka khaira hadzihil qaryah wa khaira ahliha, wa khaira ma fiha, wa a’udzubika min sharriha wa sharri ahliha, wa sharri ma fiha.

Meaning: O Allah, Lord of the seven heavens and all that they envelope, Lord of the seven earths and all that they carry, Lord of the devils and all whom they misguide, Lord of the winds and all whom they whisk away. I ask You for the goodness of this village, the goodness of its inhabitants, and for all the goodness found within it, and I take refuge with You from the evil of this village, the evil of its inhabitants, and from all the evil found within it.

[Mustadrak Al-Hakim]

Supplication Upon Returning Home

Transliteration: Ayibun, ta’ibun, ‘abidun, liRabbina hamidun

Meaning: We return, in repentant, worshipping, and praising our Lord

Dhikr of Return from Travel

When the Prophet ﷺ returned from a battle or Hajj, he used to say three times:

Then he ﷺ said,

Transliteration: La ila-ha illallah-hu wahdahu la sharika lahu, lahul mulku wa lahul hamdu, wahua ‘ala kulli shai’in qadir, a-ibuna, ta-ibuna, ‘a-biduna, li rabbina ha-midoon. Sadaqballa-hu wa’dahu, wa nasara ‘abdahu wa hazamal ahzaba wahdahu

Meaning: There is no God except Allah alone, He has no partner; His is the kingdom, all the praise; And He has power over all things. We are returners, penitents, worshipers and praisers of our Lord. Allah has fulfilled His promise, He has helped His servants, and He alone has defeated all the opposing factions.

[Sahih Bukhari, Sahih Muslim]

Prayer Upon Returning Home

After returning home, it’s Sunnah to pray two raka’h Salah.

“When you leave your house, perform two raka’h and this will safeguard you against evil. When you enter your home, perform another two raka’h and this will safeguard you against evil.” [Musnad Al-Bazzar]

Travelling is a necessary part of life. As Muslims, we should follow the Sunnah of the Prophet ﷺ during Safar. You may be confused to see lots of dua in the list. Actually, Allah’s Messenger ﷺ used to say different dua during travelling. But you can start with some basic ones. And try to memorize and practice more duas as much as you can. May Allah makes our journeys safer, Ameen.

What Did Prophet Muhammad SAW Say About Travel?

Ibn Umar, may Allaah be pleased with him, reported that when the Messenger of Allaah, sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam, would ride on his camel in order to travel, he would say:

Allaah is the greatest [Allaahu Akbar], three times, then would say:

Transcendent is Allaah who has subjugated this for us, and we were not powerful ourselves enough to use it as a ride and to Allaah is our return. O Allaah, we ask in this travel of ours, for piety, righteousness, and actions that please You. O Allaah, make this travel easy on us, and make its distance shortened. O Allaah, You are the companion in travel, and the caretaker of the family. O Allaah, we seek refuge in You from tiredness of travel, looking sorrowful, and from an evil return in wealth or family.

When he, sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam, would return, he would say:

We have returned; we repent to Allaah, worship Allaah, and thank our Lord.

Reported by Muslim (1342 )

Transcendent is Allaah who has subjugated this for us, and we were not powerful ourselves enough to use it as a ride, the occasion of beginning with this remembrance and starting with:

Transcendent, is to deem Allaah the Exalted, in that subjugating riding beast for us is a great favor that none besides Him and do, so it is appropriate to rule Him as transcendent and having no partners in such an instance.

To Allaah is our return , the occasion of this is that since riding a boat or a riding beast might lead to death at times, that causes them to remember their hereafter, so it was appropriate to mention the hereafter, because the riding beast is one of the means that one is destroyed, which would cause them to fear Allaah on their riding beast and on their travels.

O Allaah, You are the companion in travel, meaning, the One that preserves and helps.

The origin of the word refers to accompanying, and it refers to the accompanying of Allaah by way of care, preservation, and maintaining.

So, through this statement, he, sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam, brought notice to reliance on and sufficing with Him apart from any other companion.

The caretaker of the family, the caretaker or successor is the one that takes the place of someone in caring for their affairs.

At-Tooribishti, may Allaah have mercy on him, said:

The meaning is that You, O Allaah, am the One that I seek and rely on in my travel, in that You be my helper and preserver, as well as in my absence away from my family, to tidy them, cure them, and preserve their religion and trusts for me.

Looking sorrowful, meaning, I seek refuge in You from anything that necessitates sorrow, such as losing out on what I want, and something happening that I was previously cautious of.

From an evil return, meaning, I seek refuge in You from an evil return, where I would be affected with sadness or sickness.

In wealth or family, such as going back while not completing their needs, or to some calamity in oneself, such as sickness, in wealth, such as having one’s wealth stolen, either all or some of it, or in family, such as the wife, servants, or relative, such as one of them getting sick or dying.

Al-Faa’iq states: An sorrowful return refers to a person returning to their country to find something that would make them sorrowful in terms of something that befalls then in this travels, or in what they are approaching.

Islam calls us to remain in a permanent relationship with God Almighty at all times because of the great benefits that accrue to the individual.

From that, the Messenger of Allah SAW taught us to supplicate to Allah in our house and when we travel, just as the traveler needs to feel the presence of Allah in his travels for what is in that is from fatigue and hardship, as it came in the hadith.

The prophet, sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam, gave precedence to preservation of religion over preservation of trust, because he was keen on it, and because traveling is a time when a person would be fearful, in danger, could be hurt, and could face hardships and tiredness, causing them to neglect some aspects regarding religion, such as delaying prayer past its due time, and so forth, as is seen.

Anas, may Allaah be pleased with him, said that a man approached the Prophet, sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam, and said:

O Messenger of Allaah, I am traveling, so give me provisions. He, sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam, said:

May Allaah give you provisions in the form of piety [Taqwa].

The man said: Increase me. He, sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam, said:

May He also forgive your sins. The man said: Increase me. The Prophet, sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam, said: May He also facilitate goodness for you wherever you are.

  • May Allaah give you provisions in the form of piety [Taqwa],” because the best of provisions is piety, and it is the provision of the hereafter.
  • May He also forgive your sins, meaning, all of your sins, and especially the sins that you do when traveling.
  • May He also facilitate goodness for you wherever you are, meaning, may He make religious and worldly goodness, such as Hajj, fighting in battle, knowledge, seeking lawful sustenance, keeping the ties of the womb, and so forth, facilitated for you, regardless of where you are going and headed to.

It is also a possibility that the man was asking for actual provisions, as in, what is known to be provisions, but the Prophet, sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam, responded to him in a wise way, and that is by telling him that your provision occurs when you keep away from the prohibitions of Allaah and keep away from disobeying Him the Exalted.

Dua for traveling

What are the best Dua for traveling?

before we do anything, we ask Allah for his blessing and guidance, an example of this is the dua for traveling, we ask Allah to keep us safe from any harm.

Traveling is an adventure that is full of surprises no matter how hard we plan for it, that is why as Muslims we say supplication to protect us during the journey.

We have Duas concerning all aspects of life like Dua Before Eating and Dua After Eating , dua for children’s success , and so on. And we should learn those supplications, but if you can’t memorize the dua then don’t worry you could easily download it or search for it on the internet.

So, in this article, we will learn how to protect ourselves while traveling by remembering Allah and reciting Dua.

Dua for traveling on plane

  • When leaving your home anytime you should say the following Dua:

“Bismillah, tawakkaltu ‘alallah, wa la hawla wa la quwwata illa billah”

“I begin with the Name of Allah; I trust in Allah; there is no altering of conditions but by the Power of Allah.”

As Anas bin Malik narrated that the prophet peace and blessing be upon him said: “Whoever says upon leaving his house (I begin with the Name of Allah; I trust in Allah; there is no altering of conditions but by the Power of Allah.) it will be said to him: ‘You are guided, defended and protected.’ The devil will go far away from him.”

  • When traveling or on your way to leave the country, the prophet peace and blessing be upon him instructed us to recite the following to have a safe journey:

“Bismillah, Walhamdulillah. Subhanal-ladzi sakh-khara lana hadza wa ma kunna lahu muqrinin. Wa inna ila Rabbina lamun-qalibun.”

The muslim traveler's guide to packing for a trip.

Traveling can be one of the most exhilarating and liberating experiences in life. You get to explore new places, have unique experiences, and make lasting memories with friends and family. But to any Muslim traveler, there is an additional layer of spiritual appreciation around it; something that turns a regular vacation into somewhat of a pilgrimage — the power of prayer! It’s believed by many people across the world that reciting certain supplications (known as Duas) for traveling helps bring protection and peace on your journey. Here we will look at some of these traveling prayers for Muslims, what they mean in Arabic, how you can use them when traveling, and other useful tips to help you stay safe wherever you go.

The importance of Dua for traveling

Duas (or supplications) are a powerful form of spiritual communication, as they allow us to communicate directly with Allah and ask for His protection, guidance, and grace. When it comes to traveling in particular, there are tons of authentic narrations from the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), that teaches the importance of saying certain Duas whenever someone embarks on a journey. The most famous Dua for travel is known as “Dua al-Safar” or “The Traveler’s Prayer”.

This special prayer will not only help bring you safety during your trip but will also provide you an extra shield of mental peace while you travel and explore new places. It can be recited anytime during your journey, before setting out or even when you arrive to your destination.

Travel essentials for Muslim travelers

Apart from the spiritual tools of prayer, there are also some key material items that all Muslim travelers should bring with them on their journeys. These include:

– A Quran and/or an Islamic book ; this is particularly important if traveling abroad and encountering a new culture.

-Headscarves and long clothes such as abayas or hijab(s) can be useful for those observing traditional modesty.

– Islamic books or audio lectures that contain Islamic knowledge relevant to the situation, such as understanding cultural norms in other countries or how to deal with a difficult travel experience.

– An Islamic compass that can help with finding the direction of qibla (the direction to face when praying) no matter where you are.

– Miswak – a natural toothbrush found in some Islamic countries, it is considered Sunnah (recommended practice) to use it while traveling.

– Prayer beads or tasbihs – these are particularly useful for dhikr and reciting Duas throughout your journey.

These items will not only provide spiritual support during your travels but also provide practical guidance on how to observe Islamic etiquette both at home and abroad.

What to say in a dua for traveling

Every year hundreds of thousands of people lose their lives because of vehicular accidents and plane crashes. This is where Islam comes in to protect you. Islam is an amazing religion that teaches us to have faith in Allah (SWT) and live our lives according to the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

One of the best things about Islam is that we have a dua for almost everything, whether it’s sitting, eating, sleeping, or traveling. While reciting the duas for travelling , a Muslim seeks help from Allah (SWT) to stay safe and protected as He is the only one who can protect us from accidents and dangerous hazards. Keep reading to learn more about the duas for traveling .

What Does Allah Say About Travelling?

dua of travel in arabic

The Holy Quran is the religious book of Islam and is considered the ultimate guide for Muslims. In the Holy Quran, Allah (SWT) describes our life as a journey, with ignorance and knowledge being analogous to the dark and light on the way, respectively.  The Quran has numerous references for Muslims to follow in order to go through a better worldly yet spiritual journey. However, in several places, Allah (SWT) has placed special emphasis on the significance of physical travel.

In the Quran, the word “saiyr” is used to refer to a traveller. The literal meaning of saiyr is to travel or move; for example; the planets are called sayyarah. The term saiyr appears in the Holy Quran 27 times. In most places, it’s used in the formulation of “Tell them to travel,” “Do they not travel,” or “Do travel.”

On the significance of travelling in Islam, Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said, “Three supplications will not be rejected (by Allah (SWT)), the supplication of the parent for his child, the supplication of the One who is fasting, and the supplication of the traveler. (al-Bayhaqi, at-Tirmidhi – Sahih)

Duas for Travelling in a Car

To protect yourself and your travel companions it is recommended by Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) to recite the following Surah, with a wish to have a safe and blessed journey:

“With the Name of Allah. Praise is to Allah. Glory is to Him Who has provided this for us though we could never have had it by our efforts. Surely, unto our Lord, we are returning. Praise is to Allah . Praise is to Allah. Praise is to Allah. Allah is the Most Great. Allah is the Most Great. Allah is the Most Great. Glory is to You. O Allah, I have wronged my own soul. Forgive me, for surely none forgives sins but You.” (Abu Dawud 3/34, At-Tirmidhi 5/501)

In general, having been often mentioned in the Quran, travelling  is a way to achieve insight and wisdom by broadening an individual’s horizons and potential

Duas for Travelling on Plane

Travelling is viewed as a good deed in Islam. this is mainly because in Islam, Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and his Ummah succeeded in spreading Islam through exploration and travelling. The act of travelling also strengthens our belief, aboutwhich Allah (SWT) says in the Quran: “Say (O Muhammad): ‘ Travel through the earth and see how Allah did originate creation.'” (Surah Al-Ankabut, Verse 20)

Therefore, following the Sunnah – acts of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) – it is advised that every Muslim should follow the exemplary Adab (etiquette) mentioned below, while travelling out of the city or country:

  • Dua When You Leave the House | Praying 2 Raka’at of Sunnah

Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), on the adab of leaving your house for travelling , stated: “When you leave your house, perform two raka’at, and this will safeguard you against evils. When you return home, perform another two raka’at, and this will safeguard you against evils.” (Hadith reported by Al-Bazzar and al-Bayhaqi)

Furthermore, in “Al-Majmu,” Imam An-Nawawi mentions that while performing the two raka’at , in the first raka’at, one should recite Surah Al-Kafirun after Surah Al-Fatiahah. However, in the second raka’at, one should recite Surah Ikhlas after Surah Al-Fatihah.

  • When You Commence Your Journey

For the following verse, Anas bin Malik (RA) narrates that Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said that: “Whoever says upon leaving his house (recites the below-mentioned verses) it will be said to him: ‘You are guided, defended and protected.’ The devil will go far away from him.”

“Bismillah, tawakkaltu ‘alallah, wa la hawla wa la quwwata illa billah”

When one enters or boards the plane, it is advised by Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) to recite the following verses to have a blessed and safe journey:

“In the name of Allah and all praise is for Allah. How perfect He is, the One Who has placed this (transport) at our service, and we ourselves would not have been capable of that, and to our Lord is our final destiny.”

(Hadith reported by Abu Daud and At-Tirmidhi)

I ask You for the goodness of this village, the goodness of its inhabitants, and for all the goodness found within it, and I take refuge with You from the evil of this village, the evil of its inhabitants, and from all the evil found within it.”

(Hadith reported by An-Nasa’i and Al-Hakim)

  • Dua Upon Entering the Place to Stay (Hotel)

When entering a hotel, people are usually unknown to the history of their place of stay. Therefore, to safeguard themselves from all possible hazards and accidents, it is recommended by Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) to recite the following verses:

“A’udzu bikalimatillahit-tammati min sharri ma khalaq”

“I seek refuge in Allah’s perfect words from every evil (that has been created).”

(Hadith reported by Muslim)

Khawalah binte Hakim As-Sulaimiyyah (RA) narrates for the aforementioned verses that she heard Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) saying, “Whoever, on arrival, says (verse mentioned above) no evil shall befall him until he departs from where he arrived.”

  • Dua When Facing Difficulties

There will be several times when travelling when one might feel lost. In such a case, it is advised to perform zikr (remembrance) of Allah (SWT) and istighfar (for forgiveness) for our sins.

In a narration by Abdullah bin Abbas (RA), it is stated that, “Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said that if a person constantly makes Istighfar (i.e., “Astaghfirullah”), then Allah removes every difficulty, frees him from every sorrow and makes a means for him to receive sustenance from places that he never thought of.” (Hadith reported by Ahmad)

  • Dua Upon Returning Home | Praying 2 Raka’at of Sunnah

As it is advised to pray two raka’at when leaving for a journey, it is also recommended to pray two raka’at when returning home.  Jabir (RA), in a narration, says that: “I was travelling with the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) When we reached Madinah, He Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said to me, “Enter the mosque and pray two raka’at.”

Also, it is recommended to perform the prayer in the same way as the two raka’at prayers before leaving the house.

Duas for Our Parents

muslim man praying during the last 10 nights of ramadan

There is no love more pure and selfless except for the love of your parents. Everyone’s parents love them unconditionally, and regardless of all and worldly reasons. And realistically stating it is nearly impossible for a child to reciprocate that love. Therefore, being Muslims, the best thing that you can do is recite the following duas wishing a happy and blessed life for your parents:

  • Dua for the Happiness of Your Parents:

“RabbiawziAAnee an ashkura niAAmataka allatee anAAamta AAalayya waAAalawalidayya waan aAAmala salihan tardahuwaaslih lee fee thurriyyatee innee tubtuilayka wa-innee mina almuslimeen”

“My Lord, enable me to be grateful for Your favor which You have bestowed upon me and upon my parents and to work the righteousness of which You will approve and make righteous for me my offspring. Indeed, I have repented to You, and indeed, I am of the Muslims.” ( Quran 46:15)

  • Dua for the Long Life of Your Parents:

“Adhhib al-ba’s Rabb an-naas, wa’shfi anta al-Shaafi, laa shifaa’a illa shifaa’uka shifaa’an laa yughaadir saqaman”

Take away the pain, O Lord of mankind, and grant healing, for You are the Healer, and there is no healing but Your healing that leaves no trace of sickness.” (Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 5351, Muslim, 2191)

Nevertheless, this dua transcends time and space. One should recite this prayer when one intends to get settled in a new area, city, or country. In his Tafseer, Abul Ala Modudi states,

“This prayer clearly shows that the time of Hijrah (Migration) had come near. That is why Allah has instructed the Holy Prophet to this effect: You should follow the truth wherever and in whatever condition you be. 3 – Dua When Visiting A Place For First Time:

Many times, it happens that we travel to a place for the first time, and in our hearts lie many apprehensions associated with the journey. Students travel to different lands for their higher studies, people travel for their jobs knowing as less as nothing about their job environment. Fear of new place and anxiety of meeting new people is very natural in these circumstances. Well, putting trust in Allah and showing to Him that we are nothing without His aid and help is what this dua reflects.  For secure and safe traveling this dua certainly is very useful and one of the easier ones. One may also recite this dua when We want to be Successful in our plans. For more days on success, you may follow this link.

Prophet (saww) said:

The Prophet (saww) said: When a man goes out of his house and recites the following will be said to him at that time: “You are guided, defended and protected.” The devils will go far from him and another devil will say: How can you deal with a man who has been guided, defended, and protected?

Reported by Abu Dawood (5095) and Al-Tirmidhi (3462); classified as Saheeh by al-Albaani in Sahih Abi Dawood.

Traveling symbolizes that we, humans, are a temporary creature, it encloses the men of the world as one community, it enlightens the virtue of humility in a person. It gives you an insight into Allah’s blessings in the form of different creatures. Imam Shafi stated:

For in travel, there are five benefits: Relief of adversity, earning of livelihood, knowledge, etiquette, and noble companionship. ”  (Imam as-Shafi)

1 – The Prophet’s Traveling Dua:

Abdullah bin ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) has reported that when the Prophet Muhammad (Peace and Blessings of Allah be upon him) set out for a journey and mounted on his camel, he would recite the following dua:

Travel Duas - 6 Islamic Duas To Recite When Traveling

Translation :

Glory be to the One Who has placed this (transport) at our service and we ourselves would not have been capable of that, and to our, Lord is our final destiny. O Allah, we ask You for righteousness and piety in this journey of ours, and we ask You for deeds which please You. O Allah, facilitate our journey and let us cover its distance quickly. O Allah, You are the Companion on the journey and the Successor (the One Who guards them in a person’s absence) over the family. O Allah, I seek refuge with You from the difficulties of travel, from having a change of heart and from being in a bad predicament, and I seek refuge with You from an ill-fated outcome with regard to wealth and family. – (Narrated by Muslim, 1342)

Can you see, how beautifully Allah has guided His men in every aspect of life? Can you see why Islam is seen as a code of life? It is because of these minute precisions Allah has given to us! The one who has created us has formulated basic codes so that we are not left alone anywhere, and we remind ourselves that Allah is present nearest to us and takes care of our journey. We just need to work on the ethics of travel. We need to recite the days telling Allah that we only put our trust in Him.

Q. Should You Pray Before Traveling?

A. Yes, it is highly recommended to say 2 raka’at nafal prayers before you start your journey. As the Prophet PBUH said:

“When you leave your house, perform two raka’at and this will safeguard you against evils. When you return home, perform another two raka’at and this will safeguard you against evils.”

Similarly, when you come back home after the journey, you should again say 2 raka’at prayer to thank Allah.

Q. Are Duas Accepted When Traveling?

A. The Prophet PBUH has told us about certain times of the day or certain instances in life when the chances of acceptance of prayer are very high. One of these times is when a Muslim is traveling. So if your trip and your dua are both for a good reason, remember Allah during the journey and He will surely remember you.

As the Prophet PBUH said:

Three supplications will not be rejected (by Allah (SWT)), the supplication of the parent for his child, the supplication of the one who is fasting, and the supplication of the traveler. [al-Bayhaqi, at-Tirmidhi – Sahih]

Dua For travel In English – 2

My Lord! Let my entry (to the city of Al-Madinah) be good, and likewise my exit (from the city of Makkah) be good. And grant me from You an authority to help me (or a firm sign or a proof). Surah Al-Israa 17:80

Why would not you travel more when there are so many advantages to traveling ?!

Everyone keeps saying how important it is to travel. So what is it?

The benefits of traveling are not punctual: traveling changes you physically and psychologically. Having little time or money is not a valid excuse. You can fly for cheap very easily. If you have a full time job and a family, you can always travel on weekends or holidays, even with a baby.

Here are some of the main benefits of traveling. And I’m sure once you’ve started, you’ll find more yourself!

Whether it’s reducing stress or reducing the risk of developing heart disease, the health benefits of traveling are enormous. You can sit in a chair all day at your workplace – you can even feel better while walking. For some people, wandering abroad is even a cure for depression and anxiety. Of course, this is not a foolproof cure, but it could help you feel better, both physically and psychologically.

Traveling more will probably have a considerable impact on your mental well-being, especially if you are not used to getting out of your comfort zone. Trust me: travel more and your doctor will be happy. Make sure you get in touch with your doctor, he may recommend medications to accompany you on your trip, especially if you are traveling to areas of the world where the disease is potentially dangerous.

Traveling disconnects you from your daily life

This is extremely related to my previous point. We tend to be so involved in our daily lives that sometimes, by just staying, we can do more harm than good. Your boss takes back your life? The kids are driving you crazy? Your parents are trying to make you live the life they want? How long do you think you can withstand this pressure before you burst and everything collapses?

Sometimes it’s best to take a step back, take a deep breath and take that selfie from Tower Bridge. Seriously, traveling is not a bad option. It’s the most natural way to make someone miss you or miss you. The trick is to leave with a little preparation to avoid making a mistake during your trip. Plus, if you’re flying, you’d better start thinking about booking your tickets as soon as possible.

Voyager vous rend plus intelligent

Get used to reading new words in a different language every time you travel and you’ll see improvements in your brain capacity, as Dan Roitman wrote in the Huffington Post. If only that, start getting acquainted with the jargon of the trip.

Much more than just languages, traveling helps you to get to know you. You may find yourself in difficult situations where you have to be resourceful and think differently. I am sure you will develop a new set of skills that you do not think you have in you.

Traveling improves your understanding of other cultures

Being more understanding and tolerant to a different culture is more than just a part of being smarter, but I consider it to be a benefit of traveling in itself. There is a quote by St. Augustine, which goes “The world is a book, and those who do not travel read only one page”. You could think of it if you read it in the news or watch it on TV and do not question it, you’re missing on your information. You might think that it makes you smarter and more aware of the world, but it’s the opposite: it’s a unique and biased perspective.

Sure, you probably feel comfortable where you are, but that’s just a fraction of the world! If you are a student, take advantage of programs such as Erasmus to get to know more people, experience and understand their culture. Dare traveling to a region where you have a skeptical opinion about. I bet that you will change your mind and realize that everything is not so bad abroad.

Have you ever had a delayed or canceled flight? You could be entitled to € 600 from the airline!

Traveling makes you more interesting

I do not doubt that you are quite the talker. That being said, including some stories. Mention something that is most important for someone in the same position.

During my trip to Egypt, my host Airbnb and I went out for dinner. He had been there for a while, the conversation had lasted and I was not bored for a minute.

If you’re not yet an Airbnb user, use this link to get some free credits and check out this post to find out how to get started.

Who do you think wants to listen to the guy who spends a lot of time in Cuba, driving an old American car, swimming with dolphins and tasting deliciously spicy food? I know what story I want to hear about …

Traveling allows you to try amazing food

Speaking of food, I bet you are a hellish chef and your meals at home are delicious. But nothing like trying a typical local dish from another country. Do not fool yourself by going to the sushi shop next door: you do not know what sushi tastes like until you’re in Japan.

Eating local foods in a new country is an entirely new experience. All the flavors are different. Here I am outside: I am French and I love our local recipes. You do for. But make no mistake: some changes would be more than welcome in our daily diet. If only because we are naturally curious. Some culinary bloggers travel thousands of miles for a particular dish! The least you can do is go to the next region and try something new.

Traveling feel like an adventurer

Although the world has never been so well connected today, there is still little known time of the average tourist. Establishing a list of places you want to visit is extremely motivating. You have something tangible to pursue. I am currently working on my own list, and I think I will never see it again, with all these incredible destinations.

The advantage of traveling to a new place is that it forces you to face the unknown and think differently. You do not need to spend a month in the jungle! If you live in a big city, just hiking on weekends will make you feel different. The demanding adventures of novelty, then sorted out of your comfort zone. It may be scary, but in hindsight you see it’s the best decision you have a price!

Traveling extends your (real) social network

Believe it or not, a real network. Crazy, I know. Making connections and building a network abroad is one of the smartest things you can do in today’s world. Sometimes it’s hard to build lasting relationships with people, but that does not mean it’s not worth meeting new people!

Take the following example: New Year’s Eve in Tanzania last year. I slept two days in the apartment of an Egyptian expatriate. I put it on Couchsurfing, an ounce of the best ways. Now this guy invites me to his wedding in Egypt! How is this incredible ?! Some connections are surprisingly strong.

Traveling creates memories for life

My grandfather was an incredible narrator and he told me stories about his travels when he was younger. One of my favorites is how to get along with chopsticks in China for the first time. He regretted not traveling young man. Years later, he still remembered everything in the details: And it will probably be on you too.

As insignificant as it may seem, the fact that you have had an experience abroad, something out of the ordinary, creates a memory you will remember for a long time.

Traveling makes you love your home even more”What is magical about us is that it feels good to leave and better to come back”. You will not be able to understand the meaning of Wendy Wunder’s words until you return home. The same day, same context, same people, same problems. Yet you are not the same – you are new, full of new knowledge and ideas!

I know I was bored after living all my life in one place. I need to go out, I need to change scene. I focused only on the negative, how do you meet the same people, how nothing changes. Now, when I get home, I’m happy with that and I see only the positive.

Safar Ki Dua – Dua For Travelling

In the Muslim world, everyone tries to follow the guidance of  Prophet Muhammad (SAW). He (SAW) teaches Muslims in every aspect of life. Even He (SAW) teaches Muslims supplications for eating, sitting, praying, reciting, or traveling. The reason behind these supplications is to get rid of Satan and get Allah’s blessings and guidance in every action of our life.

Safar Ki Dua

Safar comes from the Arabic word “alsafar“. It means travel. It is proved from Hadith that Prophet Muhammad (SAW) always recites safar ki dua / dua for travel before boarding the ride and then starts travel. This dua protects us from dangers and Satan. Man takes refuge in Allah, and he reaches his destination safely.

You should recite this dua whether you are traveling on a car, bus, train, or any other means of transport. In this article, we will teach you safar ki dua or dua for traveling. So let’s get started!

Safar Ki Dua In Arabic

Safar ki dua taught by Prophet Muhammad (SAW) in Arabic is the following;

Transliteration;

Subhan alladhi sakh-khara lana hadha wa ma kunna lahu muqrinin. Wa inna ila rabbina lamunqalibun.

Safar ki Dua in English

Glory to him (Allah), who has brought this (vehicle) under our control, whereas we are unable to control it. Surely, we are to return to our lord.

Safar ki Dua In Urdu

Allah Talla pak hay jis nay is sawari ko hmaray kabzay mein krdia or is ki qudrat ky baghair hum isay kabzay mein krnay walay na thay or bilashuba hum ko apnay rub ki taraf rajou krna hai.

Safar ki Dua in Hindi

Allah kee mahima ho, jisane hamen is savaaree ka adhikaaree banaaya, aur usakee shakti ke bina ham ise praapt nahin kar paate, aur nissandeh hamen apane Allah kee or mudana chaahie.

Hadith About Safar ki Dua

Ali bin Rabi’ah said:

I witnessed Ali ( Allah be pleased with him) having an animal brought to him to ride. When he placed his foot in the strip, he said: بسم اللہ  ( Bismillah) In the name of Allah, three times. So then, once he had ascended upon its back, he said: الحمد لله (Al-humdulillah) All praises due to Allah.

Then he said: سُبْحَانَ الَّذِيْ سَخَّرَ لَنَا هَـٰذَا وَمَا كُنَّا لَهُ مُقْرِنِيْنَ، وَإِنَّا إِلَىٰ رَبِّنَا لَمُنْقَلِبُوْنَ (Subhan alladhi sakh-khara lana hadha wa ma kunna lahu muqrinin. Wa inna ila rabbina lamunqalibun) Glory to Him Who has subjected this to us, and we are not able to do it. And, surely, to our lord are we returning.

Then he said: الحمد لله ( Al- hamdulillah) All praise is due to Allah- three times- and الله اكبر  (Allahu Akbar) Allah is the greatest – three times- سبحانك اني قد ظلمت نفسي فاغفر لي فانا لا يغفر الذنوب الا انت (Subhanaka inni qad zalamtu nafsi faghfirli fa- innahu la yaghfirudh- dhunuba illa ant) Glory is to You. Indeed, I have wronged myself, so forgive me, for indeed, none forgives sins except you.

Then he laughed. So I said: O Commander of the believer! What caused you to laugh? He said: I saw the Messenger of Allah do as I did, then he (SAW) laughed, so I said, What caused you to laugh? He(SAW) said: Indeed your lord is very pleased with His worshipper when he says: “O my lord, forgive me my sins, indeed, no one other than you forgives sins.”

(Book Sunan Tirmizi,   Sahih Hadith #3446 )

We came to know from this hadith that we should;

  • Say بسم اللہ Bismillah -three times while we are sitting on our ride.
  • Say الحمد لله Alhumdulillah when we sit.
  • Then say safar ki dua (Subhan alladhi sakh-khara lana hadha wa ma kunna lahu muqrinin. Wa inna ila rabbina lamunqalibun)
Alhumdullialah- three times.
Allahu akbar- three times.
(Subhanaka inni qad zalamtu nafsi faghfirli fa- innahu la yaghfirudh- dhunuba illa ant) one time.

When on a plane, you should say  الله اكبر ( Allahu-akbar) when the plane is rising upward. When the plane is landing, say سبحان الله (Subhan- Allah) praise to be Allah. If the plane or ride stumbles, start saying Bismillah. Allah will protect you from any harm.

Benefits of Safar ki Dua

There are several benefits of every supplication taught by Prophet Muhammad (SAW). Some benefits of safar ki dua are:

  • It is Prophet Muhammad’s (SAW) sunnah, so if you recite, you are following His (SAW) sunnah.
  • It assures your safety.
  • It protects you from Satan.
  • Allah will make a hard journey easy for you.
  • Allah’s guidance and mercy will be with you throughout the journey.
  • You will get here at your destination without having any trouble.
