Six Reasons Why Going To Gigs Alone Is The Best
So you want to go see that metalcore band you love but none of your friends like that “shouty” music? Or you REALLY want to go check out that new artist on TikTok you discovered but all your mates won’t go to a gig where they only know one song? Or worse, your group of friends cannot get themselves organized and work out which show and when to go on a tour, so you’re worried you’ll miss out on tickets. Let them be miserable and start living your best life by going to concerts by yourself. Trust us, it’ll be the best thing you’ll ever do!
Going to gigs alone can be daunting. What am I going to do with myself in between sets? Are people going to think I’m weird? Why would I not want to share the experience?
Listen, we are all for sharing the experience, but sometimes it’s either missing out or going alone, and in those cases we definitely recommend going alone. Here’s a few reasons why you’ll never regret it once you build up the courage to go through with it.
1 . See artists you really REALLY want to see
Imagine the FOMO of missing your favourite band on their new tour, hearing all those new songs live, seeing everyone post about it. Don’t let that happen, and get that ticket. Plus you then get to tell the pals who didn’t want to come how you saw that band or artist before they blew up or how they played that one B-side track that everyone loves – now who has FOMO?
2. Meet new friends
It’s no secret that music brings people together. That moment when everyone’s favourite ballad hits and there’s not a dry eye in the building, you turn to your left or right and suddenly you bond with a stranger over your favourite song. For the metalheads, we also recommend mosh pits, follow the rules of the pit but what a way to make new friends!
3. The freedom
Now hear us out – but going to a gig alone means you can get to the venue when you want, you can go to the loos when you want, you can stand in line at the merch for hours and no one will ask if you’re sure you want to wait. And no one will drag you home when you want to wait after the show has finished and find every piece of confetti or ask for the setlist.
4 . It’s a cult
You are not alone in going to gigs by yourself, you’d probably be surprised by how many people do the same thing. Some fan groups even have entire sub cultures of going to gigs alone (shoutout to Frank Turner’s solo armada, we see you!) – bringing us back to reason #2, new friends.
5. Confidence boost
Going to a gig by yourself will do wonders for your confidence. Sure the first time might feel a bit awkward and weird, but isn’t it always? Remember your first day of school? And then it was kind of okay after a while (let’s ignore our teenage years…) Once you’ve done it and experience all of the divinity of a solo gig you’ll feel free as a bird.
6. Experience the music your way
Whether you love hanging out by the bar, need to be front row, prefer seats or want to leave a bit earlier to catch the last train – the world is your oyster! The experience is yours, you don’t need to coordinate with someone else, rely on them to enjoy the show as much as you are and have as much of a good time as you are. And frankly, if you took a chance on a new genre or new artist and it isn’t your vibe, you can just go home. Glorious.
So there you have it – doesn’t sound too bad now does it?! At the end of the day it all comes down to you and your artist, a concert will always be a shared experience whether with strangers or friends. The most important thing to do is have fun.
Your next gig awaits

- Here, There and Everywhere 2023
Here, There and Everywhere outlines the impact of the eagerly anticipated resurgence of live music in 2022 – the first full year of post-pandemic festivals, gigs and concerts in the UK, and shows the international reputation of the UK’s live music events.
Page actions
Share this page, you are here.
Music tourists were attracted by the return of major events such as Glastonbury, where headliners included Sir Paul McCartney, and UK tours by top British artists, including Dua Lipa, Stormzy, Harry Styles, Ed Sheeran and Elton John.
The key findings for 2022 of Here, There and Everywhere include:
- Total number of music tourists attending live music events across the UK in 2022 was 14.4 million.
- Total number of foreign music tourists in 2022 was 1.1 million.
- Total number of domestic music tourists in 2022 was 13.3 million.
- Total music tourism spending in 2022 was £6.6 billion.
- Total employment sustained by music tourism in 2022 was 56,000.
The data also revealed that:
- Total attendance at UK festivals and concerts in 2022 was 37.1 million.
- A total of 6.5 million music fans attended festivals in the UK in 2022.
- A total of 30.6 million people attended concerts (which includes everything from arena shows to grassroots gigs).
UK Music estimates that the £6.6 billion that music tourism supported last year could increase significantly by 2030 – with the right support from Government, local councils and others to spread growth and job across the UK.
A key part of the report focuses on the action that towns and cities across the UK can take to use music to help turbo-charge their local economies and support jobs.
A special toolkit (Music Powerhouses Toolkit: A Guide For Towns, Cities and Regions) outlines how local authorities and others can utilise existing funding and spaces to help music thrive across the UK.
The toolkit includes four recommendations for local councils on how to build their own music communities:
- Use data to ensure music is at the heart of planning and licensing policy.
- Create a register of available spaces and places to support music activities.
- Enshrine music and the local community in regeneration and development.
- Set up or support city-wide music advisory boards.
Here, There and Everywhere also features a breakdown of music tourism data for Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland – as well as in the eight English regions.

The band’s new album is set for release on August 30 and will comprise of 10 songs. It will see the band move between themes of convention and experimentation – introducing left-turns that heighten the rich imagery and emotive narratives created by the frontman.
“I hope the album has the effect on listeners that it’s had on me. It bursts out of the speaker, and I get swept up with it. It’s a complicated record, but it’s also deeply and joyously infectious,” Cave said of the upcoming release.
He continued: “There is never a masterplan when we make a record. The records rather reflect back the emotional state of the writers and musicians who played them. Listening to this, I don’t know, it seems we’re happy. There’s no fucking around with this record. When it hits, it hits. It lifts you. It moves you. I love that about it.”
Cave also recently said that the album was “full of secrets”. “I don’t want to say much about the album itself until it is released in August and you get to hear all the songs, but I can tell you that it is a record full of secrets,” he said on his blog, The Red Hand Files .
“It is made up of a series of complex and interlinking narratives, the title song ‘Wild God’ being the primary point of propulsion, with the songs all feeding off each other – not so much to tell a story, but to rally round an acutely vulnerable and mysterious ‘event’ that resides at the heart of the album’s central song, ‘Conversion’.”
To mark the announcement of the album, the band also shared the title track as the lead single , earlier this month capturing the same balance between newness and their signature sound as expected in the full album.
The writing process for ‘Wild God’ began on New Year’s Day 2023, and the tracks were laid down with sessions at Miraval in Provence and Soundtree in London. From there, the Bad Seeds introduced their unique spin, and additional performances were added from Radiohead’s Colin Greenwood (bass) and Luis Almau (nylon string guitar, acoustic guitar).
Alongside Cave himself, Warren Ellis co-produced the album, and it was mixed by David Fridmann. You can pre-order ‘Wild God’ here , and check out the album artwork and tracklisting below.
Last year, following the release of his book Faith, Hope & Carnage , Nick Cave spoke to NME and revealed what fans can expect from his upcoming music.
When asked if he was pouring more love into his music, he responded: “I don’t know about the music, but these days I feel a more urgent need to connect with people.
“There’s a kind of duty in that, that maybe I didn’t feel before. That I have at my disposal something that’s very valuable – to make music and I don’t want to squander that opportunity in phoning in gigs or doing half-hearted attempts. Everyone is as important as each other.”
News of the new album comes after Cave launched a mysterious countdown clock earlier this month (March 5), but did not reveal to fans what would happen when it struck zero.
The first word of a new Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds album came back in October 2022 when he confirmed in a Q&A that he was about to start the writing process . He later said that the eventual writing processed commenced at 9am on New Year’s Day 2023 .
In July last year, he wrote on his site that they were “finishing” work on recording the new album, and then in November, Cave said he was about to start mixing on the record in Buffalo .
The most recent Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds album was 2019’s ‘Ghosteen’. In a glowing five-star review , NME wrote: “‘Ghosteen’ is one of the most devastatingly accurate accounts of grief that you’ll ever listen to. Yet it’s also, astoundingly, one of the most comforting. Few mediations on grief manage to navigate despair and catharsis as well as this.”
As well as ‘Wild God’ being on the way, there is also a television adaptation of Cave’s 2009 novel The Death Of Bunny Monro in the works , with former Doctor Who star Matt Smith recently having been confirmed to take the title role .

When STONE TEMPLE PILOTS returned to the studio in 1994 to record their second album, the band was facing high expectations set by its debut album, "Core" , which sold more than eight million copies and won a Grammy Award . The release of "Purple" would cement their place as one of the most definitive bands of their generation, debuting No. 1 on the Billboard album chart, releasing the smash singles "Interstate Love Song" , "Vasoline" and "Big Empty" on its way to selling more than six million copies.
"Throwing Copper" , the third studio album from LIVE produced by Jerry Harrison of THE TALKING HEADS , set alternative radio on fire with consecutive hit singles, including "Selling The Drama" , "I Alone" , "All Over You" and the unforgettable radio mainstay "Lightning Crashes" , which was No. 1 at Modern Rock Radio for 10 consecutive weeks. "Throwing Copper" reached No. 1 on the Billboard Top 200 and went on to sell over 10 million copies.

With over 70 million albums sold, STONE TEMPLE PILOTS roared on to the scene in 1992 with their raucous debut, "Core" . A breakout success, the album peaked No. 3 on the Billboard 200 chart, and dominated radio waves with hits like "Sex Type Thing" , "Wicked Garden" and the Grammy Award -winning smash single "Plush" . STP quickly distinguished themselves as a band beholden to no trend. Boasting the inimitable riffs of guitarist Dean DeLeo , the propulsive rhythm section of bassist Robert DeLeo and drummer Eric Kretz , and the charismatic baritone of frontman Scott Weiland , STP ruled airways, video playlists and charts alike over their legendary career. In 2020, the band released their eighth studio album, "Perdida" — their second album with new lead singer Jeff Gutt . Paste magazine described "Perdida" as the most sonically rich experience that STONE TEMPLE PILOTS have offered fans to date.
LIVE has sold over 22 million albums worldwide and earned two number one albums: "Throwing Copper" and "Secret Samadhi" . Their catalog is filled with such gems as "Lightning Crashes" , "I Alone" , "All Over You" and "Lakini's Juice" , which live on today as classics on rock radio. "Throwing Copper" — which the band celebrated in 2019 with a new deluxe 25th-anniversary edition via Radioactive / Geffen / Ume along with a global tour across major festivals, amphitheaters and arenas — produced the band's biggest single, "Lightning Crashes" , which was No. 1 at Modern Rock radio for ten consecutive weeks. "Throwing Copper" reached No. 1 on the Billboard Top 200 and eventually surpassed sales of 10 million albums sold, with Rolling Stone honoring the album with placement on their list, "1994: The 40 Best Records From Mainstream Alternative's Greatest Year". "Secret Samadhi" (1997) immediately shot to No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and eventually went double platinum. The release of the platinum-selling "The Distance To Here" (1999) turned LIVE into an international powerhouse and moved the band from arenas into stadiums. LIVE has been and remains today a global concert juggernaut.

Hans Zimmer will tour US for first time in 7 years, hit 17 cities
German film composer Hans Zimmer is going on tour.
The Oscar-winning film scorer behind "The Lion King," " Dune " and " The Dark Knight " trilogy will take his talents on the road following a successful tour of Europe.
Hans Zimmer Live will make its way to North America, hitting 17 cities in the U.S. and Canada. The last time Zimmer, 66, performed in the U.S. was in 2017.
That year, Zimmer told the "Fan Theory" podcast, from the USA TODAY Network's Asbury Park Press , that he was "bullied into" touring.
"It wasn't my fault," he said at the time. "I got bullied into it, bullied into it by my friends, by other musicians going, 'There comes a point where you have to come out of your dark, windowless room. You have to stop hiding behind a screen and you have to actually look your audience in the eye and do things in real time.'"
Zimmer's 2024 North American tour kicks off Sept. 6 in Duluth, Georgia, and ends in Vancouver, British Columbia, on Oct. 6.
The composer has won two Oscars and four Grammys for his film scores, which also include "Gladiator" and "Crimson Tide." The music producer is a frequent collaborator with director Christophe r Nolan , scoring several more of his films including "Interstellar" and "Inception."

Rainbow Kitten Surprise Announces Tiny Music Box Tour 2024
2023 was a pretty tough year for Rainbow Kitten Surprise. The band had to cancel over 40 tour dates last year in the wake of a band member’s mental health crisis. Things were uncertain for a while, and fans of the band wondered if Rainbow Kitten Surprise was no more. However, it seems like the band has experienced a creative revival with the upcoming release of their new album Love Hate Music Box . And it looks like the band is easing their way back into touring!
The upcoming Rainbow Kitten Surprise 2024 Tour will start on May 6 in Nashville, Tennessee at Brooklyn Bowl. The eight-date tour will end on June 1 in Denver, Colorado at The Mission Ballroom.
A presale event for this tour will start on March 19 at 10:00 am local, and fans can learn more about how to sign up through the band’s website . General on-sale starts on March 22 at 10:00 am local through Ticketmaster and Stubhub . Also, the band has partnered with nonprofit PLUS1 so that every dollar in sales for this tour will be donated towards “supporting organizations delivering mental health treatment and access to care.”
Don’t miss out on your chance to see Rainbow Kitten Surprise live! Keep an eye on Stubhub when tickets go on sale.

Madonna’s ‘celebration tour’ a perfect recap of her iconic career.

LONDON, ENGLAND - OCTOBER 14: (Exclusive Coverage) Madonna performs during opening night of The ... [+] Celebration Tour at The O2 Arena on October 14, 2023 in London, England. (Photo by Kevin Mazur/WireImage for Live Nation)
Sitting down to write about the Madonna “Celebration Tour,” the first name that popped into my mind was Bob Dylan. Why? I have seen both Dylan and Madonna multiple times, some shows being much more, let’s call it, artistically successful than others.
That was why Dylan’s name first popped into my head. Then it hit me that for a generation, Madonna, who sold out five nights at the Forum in L.A., is as influential as Dylan was to his generation. Sure, the styles and impact are wildly different. But just as Dylan’s songwriting shaped a generation, Madonna’s videos and remarkable ability to reinvent herself have shaped the pop music world for the last 40 years.
“The Celebration Tour,” which is a recap of that iconic 40-year career, is the perfect vehicle to really chart and understand that impact. The more than two-hour extravaganza, which is one of the tours that finds Madonna at the peak of her stage game, is broken up into seven acts, each a look at a different period of her career.
The Saturday night show I saw, the fourth of the five-night stand, started around 10 PM with Bob The Drag Queen taking the stage to hype the crowd up for Madonna’s entrance by reminding everyone of some of her biggest moments. A few moments later, she appeared for “Nothing Really Matters.” Fittingly, act one highlighted Madonna’s dance side. Among the highlights, a rousing “Into The Groove,” “Holiday” and the finale of the first act, “Holiday.”
The show featured elaborate and compelling production and visuals throughout, especially in act two’s “Live To Tell” and “Like A Prayer.”
As I say, each act was designed to showcase and highlight a different period of her career. So, each section of the show came with its own greatest hits. Among the standout moments of the show were “Erotica” and “Justify My Love,” in act three; “Vogue” and “Crazy For You,” which retained all of the intimacy and sweetness of the original recording, in act four; the acoustic “Express Yourself,” a definite crowd favorite, “La Isla Bonita” and “Don’t Cry for Me, Argentina” to wrap up act five, and the superb one-two punch of the futuristic dance anthem “Ray Of Light” and the moving “Take A Bow” that not only closed act six, but effectively closed the regular portion of the show, with act seven serving as an encore.

To wrap up the night sometime after midnight she closed the show with “Bitch, I’m Madonna,” and an instrumental rendition of “Celebration.”
Formatting the show almost like a play, Madonna was able to tell much of her story, including paying tribute to friends in her life, including Jean-Michel Basquiat and Prince. It is an incredible tale, from being ignored as a young artist to pop superstar and eventually to one of the most important and successful artists in pop music. It is a journey that indeed deserves to be celebrated. This tour does that magnificently.

LONDON — Strong growth in streaming, vinyl and even CD sales saw music spending in the United Kingdom increase for a ninth consecutive year in 2023, according to annual figures from labels trade body BPI published Thursday (March 14).
Total U.K. recorded music sales — comprising digital and physical revenues, public performance rights and sync — climbed 8.1% to 1.43 billion pounds ($1.8 billion) last year.
Record Streaming Revenue and Vinyl’s Appeal Help Drive UK Music Sales Back to 2001 Levels
Trending on billboard.
Breaking down streaming revenue, paid subscriptions to services like Spotify and Apple Music generated 827 million pounds ($1 billion), up 8.1% on 2022, while ad-funded revenue grew by over 12% to 71 million pounds ($90 million) and video streaming trade income rose 6.9% to 64 million pounds ($82 million).
Download sales fell 5.8% to 26 million pounds ($33 million), while total digital revenue was 989 million pounds ($1.2 billion), up 7.9% on the previous year.
BPI reports that nearly 2,250 artists registered more than 10 million audio streams in the U.K. last year — a rise of 17% over the past two years — with Miley Cyrus’ “Flowers” the most-streamed track, racking up almost 200 million audio and video streams. Behind Cyrus was Dave and Central Cee’s “Sprinter” (160 million streams) and “Escapism” by Raye featuring 070 Shake (142 million streams).

Fueling physical’s recovery was a double-digit (18.6%) rise in vinyl album revenues, which totaled £142 million ($181 million) on the back of popular new releases by Taylor Swift, The Rolling Stones and Lana Del Rey, who had the top three best-selling vinyl titles in the U.K. last year with 1989 (Taylor’s Version) , Hackney Diamonds and Did You Know There’s A Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd , respectively.
More surprisingly, CD revenues also grew in 2023, up 5.4% year-on-year to just under £100 million ($127 million) with Take That’s This Life the year’s biggest-selling CD release.
Despite the compact disc’s resurgence, which BPI partly attributed to high-profile annual marketing events such as Record Store Day and National Album Day, vinyl moved further ahead as the country’s leading physical format in terms of label income, making up just over 58% of all physical music trade revenue, compared to 55% the previous year.
Public performance revenue climbed 7% year-on-year to 155 million pounds ($198 million), while sync sales dropped 7.6% to just under 40 million pounds ($51 million).
BPI’s year-end figures differ from those released by the Digital Entertainment and Retail Association (ERA) in January as the two organizations have different counting methods.

BPI’s financial figures are based on Official Charts Company (OCC) data and a survey of its record label members, which include the U.K. arms of Universal Music Group, Sony Music Entertainment and Warner Music Group, as well as over 500 independent labels. ERA’s year-end results, which also use OCC data, also include retail value, hence the higher numbers.
“Led by streaming, this ninth consecutive annual rise in recorded music revenues highlights how a balanced and prosperous market enabled by significant label investment can help even more artists to succeed,” said BPI CEO Jo Twist in a statement.
