“not going to be the best car i owned”.

written by Deerum on 12/06/2013

1998 Voyager 3.3. V6. Good bits V6 moves this around without problem. A lot of room. Looks liek something the president would arrive in. But. Always felt like a big lumbering chunk of metal to me. Spongy bouncy thing, controls an after thought. Seats weigh and absolute ton to move. Previously had a 1.8 Zafira - smaller but knocked blocks of this. Could not wait to say good bye..

£4750 bought me my 51 plate 3.3 V6 GV some 3 years ago..120K miles and what a great car..V comfy, bit greedy but solid and smooth.. Classy looks are hard to beat, it just looks like a car as opposed to a van. Very versatile and with a large top box there not much it cant do. Mine is the Chrysler/Daimler build which no doubt makes a difference..Yes a bit greedy, 25mpg with lightish foot, but it does a certain thing a certain way, isnt that why we bought it...

I got a 2000 chrysler grand voyager and all i can say is a reliable car, comfortable and beautiful. I heard loads of hundreds subs stories about their car. The thing is, they dont maintained and check their car regularly. And for the mechanic that they call themselves mechanic, i think they are not. They just know where the problem is but they dont know how to fix it. Especially here in the UK. They will charge you even they did not resolved the problem.

Bought this car second hand on ebay.I hire one when im on holiday and like the drive so decided to take the plunge as a second car as two grand urchins have arrived on the scene.First impression of the one i bought wasnt great although having a well equiped garage and am quite handy with a spanner i know no fear when it comes to taking on a lost cause. initial repairs on getting it home(300 mile drive) were....... replace ,noisy steering pump, change brake discs, pads and rear shoes(car has done 82000miles.New exhaust and cat.torsion bar bushes .fuel pump(failed day after I bought it)replace blue ???headlight bulbs, regass air con(works fine now),fit new air box (fitted one was like a glued jigsaw puzzle after lpg backfires by previous owner).new alternator.new wheels as two came loose and broke the wheel studs(probably caused by gorilla like tendency by fittes with air guns. The list goes on and on.I recently put it in for an mot and the only real problem I had was that I was unable to get the brakes up to standard. The garage eventually got them up to mot standard and passed it but after searching for info on the net it appears vosa know of the problem and have issued a memo to instuct testers to pass it even if the pedal travel is long as long as they work ok and there is still some reserve travel. Anyone thinking of buying one can make it a feasable buy as long as they either a.have money to burn(ie rich) b.have a knack with a spanner or have a pal who is good with a spanner and has a masochistic tendency.Changing the thee rear spark plugs is also impossible unles you are also quite bendy. The other saving grace with these cars are that part for them (new) are available for much less than you would expect or are led to believe buy some owners.....new exhaust 60 pounds, new cat 102 pounds.New alternator 40 pounds(also fits my xj8....bonus)All common part available on ebay brand new from businees sellers.Would I recomend one to a friend ,not if I want to keep them.Would I part with mine,no.Not the greatest buy for a 1998 lpg converted for £1800 but I like it and appart from my xj8 I cant find a comfotable people mover with air con ,cruise ,heated seats et on a truck drivers budget so i will persevere. written by on 21/10/2009

I bought a new Grand Caravan in the US (LHD) and shipped it over. After 16 years the only new bits are: 3 batteries, 2 sets of tyres, 2 fuses, 1 valve in the heating system and things like spark plugs and windscreen wipers. It still has the original exhaust. I just bought another 1 in the USA and it will arrive in the UK next month. It has only been used for long-distance runs (we have a Mini for around town) and the furthest it has been drive in a day was 1,000 miles (Paris to Bratislava) The family will be sad to see her go.

“I own a 2006 Chrysler Grand Voyager SE Vision Series....”

written by Mitch1432 on 21/02/2009

I own a 2006 Chrysler Grand Voyager SE Vision Series. its the most amazing car ive ever driven, i was reluctant about getting a chrysler becasue i to have heard about little things going wrong. But for a people mover, people look at my car and gasp, it has an awesome grill and exterior finish, not to mention the inside, my goodness, the vision series is packed out with dvd players, rear sensing parkers, and overhear entertainment console. I love it. It does take alot of fuel on small trips down town or to school, but long trips the fuel economy is decent! I bought it brand new in 2006 for $58,990, im in Australia so i dont know what that is anywhere else, all i can say is, it beats other people movers in speed, being a 3.3 litre engine, also inlooks, and its massive, the stow and go option is a godsend.

Chrysler Grand voyager 3.3v6 auto petrol. Lovely car to own and drive and also nice looking with a touch of class. However, has many faults which when you get one thing solved another just occurs. First my aircon compressor packed up as the compressor clutch seized resulting in a new compressor being fitted. (360gbp) The clock spring went in the steering wheel which luckily was a warrenty job and total cost covered by the dealer. Now I have the alarm problem since we have had terrential rain for a couple of days now and i'm dreading going near the car also night time. A lovely car but make sure if you're buying one it really is FAULTLESS!

written by car wont start on 28/02/2008

I've owned this p reg for 7yrs and have generally been happy but for a few problems that seem common to this vehicle (I run a garage, so I've driven/worked on a few). Spongy brakes and soppy suspension detract from what would otherwise be a great car to drive, why are USA built cars not modified for UK roads? best point is that you can fill the seating space and still have room for the shopping and prams etc, this is just as well because removing the seats is very heavy work. by far the biggest gripe is the price of parts. these are REALLY expensive and the dealers are more than unhelpful. would recommend to anyone, but they are not cheap to run. I need another MPV soon (child 5 on way) and after looking at the competition I think I'll still get another voyager

written by chryslerchick on 20/09/2007

What a car! Before I got this Chrysler Grand Voyager 3.3 V6 LE, I've had all makes & models & this is the only car I would 100% recommend. Engine purrs & the drive is excellent. Powerful 3.3 engine copes with any terrain thrown at it easily. If you like a decent sound system this car has it you can really pump it up on this system. Great size when all seats are taken out, it's like a good looking van. Petrol consumption not as bad as I was told & my insurance was same as having a Serrena. Definitely a car with full class, full leathers, blacked out windows, air con, sounds, comfort. 110% recommend to anyone!

written by mrburns on 09/04/2007

Here is something to consider. You can pick one of these cars up with a luxury and performance you might only find in a car £4000 - £6000 more in price. £4000 - £6000 can buy you a heck of a lot of fuel and it can compensate for the poor economy. £1000 is £20 per week for 12 months, so this can offset the MPG big time. If something big goes wrong on these cars, it can be a disaster. If you have no warranty or comeback of any kind, you may find a garage bill running into the thousands of pounds.

I bought the second hand Chrysler Grand Voyager 3.3 V6 LE a year ago. It is one of the best MPV. I like its performance and internal design. The security system is great. The only drawback is the fuel consumption but when I had my car converted to LPG system, it just works perfectly.

I bought this Chrysler Grand Voyager 3.3 V6 LE brand new for business purposes as I did not want to inherit someone elses problems. Big mistake Chrysler are a shocking company to deal with. Never again shall I buy brand new. I had an old P reg Voyager before I bought this shed I am driving and wish to God I had kept it. The P reg cost me £6,500 the thing I have just now £35,500 plus all the lost earnings whilst it was off the road for repairs

It is hard to appreciate another car after owning a Chrysler Grand Voyager. I love the power of the 3.3 litre engine and the sliding doors are a godsend with kids. Has every mod con you could ever want. Very comfortable and still has a big boot space even when seating to full capacity. I am selling mine as we no longer need a car so large. the new Honda CRV doesn't even come close, and isn't that much cheaper to run

“My people carrier is a 1998 Chrysler Grand Voyager 3.3...”

written by Gerry Turner on 04/03/2005

My people carrier is a 1998 Chrysler Grand Voyager 3.3 V6 LE (159k on clock). I have had it 5 years, and still love to drive it. It has all you will ever need whilst you have a family to move, the BEST MPV on the market in my opinion, and I did try a lot before the Voyager. I have kept up with and surprised a few boy racers when needed, (when the child in me kicked in!) However I am looking to replace it as the kids have grown up now. I paid a little over 10k for it second hand, and cannot honestly find a vehicle that will give me all I have in my Voayager. I do find it hard to keep it looking good, it takes a lot of time and hard work to keep clean, not so easy to put through a car wash. I know of a few Voyager owners who have had problems, but you can get that in any vehicle. Come on Chrysler make me a vehicle to compete with BMW, Merc, Jaguar please, as long as it has all the toys and response that my Voyager has.

hi all hope someone can help !!!!! just recently my 3.3le auto voyager started acting strange it would pull away normally go from 1st gear to 2nd fine, then when going from 2nd to 3rd it would rev higher than normall then the car would jerk slightly and fail to engage gear now it wont go higher than second also it has started overheating it is not losing oil (the oil is clean and perfect) just lots of water and coolent i have checked the fuse for the fans but it seems as though they are not working any advice would be gratefuly appreciated thanks everyone tim the mileage is just under 130,000 the transmission fluid was changed recently and the car was manufactured in 1997 the car service history is not present with the car but was running perfectly before the gear problems and as for the coolant the steam from the radiator is coming out of the filler cap and also losing some from underneath the car it takes aprox 20mins before getting too hot hope this helps the engine still runs as good as when i brought it thanks tim :help_wsig

"Limp mode" purposly holds the van in second gear because the Transmission Control Module (TCM) has detected a fault in the system. This helps prevent any further damage to the transmission. Are you seeing a Service Engine Soon light? I would head to the nearest Autozone and have them read the fault codes with a scanner. It's free. Codes or no codes it may be time for a fluid and filter change. Use only ATF-4 fluid. For your cooling issue, first you need to verify the fans themselves are working. They should come on when you turn on the A/C. You can also remove the fan relay connector and jumper the gray wire to the dark green wire. Another way is to jumper the fan motor connector directly to the battery. If you can get the fans to spin the likely culprit is the cooling fan relay located on the frame to the drivers side of the radiator down below the air intake resonator box. Shouldn't see steam from the rad cap. The steam should vent into the overflow bottle and vent out it's overflow port. Change the rad cap. Stop letting the van overheat. You may be looking at a cracked head or block and big big bucks to fix it. There was a recall for the cooling fan relay on 96 and 97 vans. Call your dealership with your VIN # and they can let you know if it's been accomplished. I think you can do the same on the Chrysler website.

so simply change the radiator cap i also noticed a leak from under the car the fans dont run with the ac on so ill check the relay. As for the gears i was told it was an input sensor ? thanks tim

The rad cap will fix the bad seal on the current cap. I'm not saying that will fix the overheat issue. Yes, could be the input turbine speed sensor. Could be many other things. Did the person telling you this troubleshoot it or did he couple your symptoms with his experience? You may see a P0715 through P0718 code for that sensor. If you're not seeing any codes I would go with a fluid/filter change, especially if the fluid hasn't been changed recently. That will give you an opportunity to see if there is metal debrie in the pan. In that case, you have major internal repairs. If there's no debrie and you still have the problem with the new fluid, I'd change both the input and output speed sensors. I'd inspect wiring and connections at the sensors and TCM before you fork over the bucks for parts. I always ask. Is the fluid level good?

When the fluid was changed recently was ATF 3 or 4 fluid used? Anything else can create problems.

I had the same problem like you do,it would not shift from 2nd to 3rd gear.Check the sensor that is installed on the transmission close to the coolant hose from the radiator to the transmission,it's about $15 for that sensor and easy to change.good luck:thumb:

I would imagine it is the 4 speed tranny, so, might also be problems in the solenoid pack.

Sounds like you need a new radiator cap. The cooling system is pressurized, which raises the boiling point of the coolant. It also limits the amount of expansion in the coolant so that it doesn't blow out of the overflow on the expansion tank. If the cap is not replaced, the trans fault will be the least of your worries.
