Without the ability to diagnose the problem further, obvious things need to be eliminated. First step, with engine running and foot on brake, shift transmission to neutral. Then slowly turn Four Wheel Drive (4WD) selector knob out of 4WD Low to 4WD High, and then finally to 2 Wheel Drive. "4x4" and "LOW RANGE" indicator lights on the instrument panel should no longer be illuminated. If this does not work, you should visit FixYa for further help or take it to the shop for proper diagnosis. Hopefully, this will help you to FixYa problem!

Drive it a few feet and try again, sometimes it can bind a little bit. Second the above. Also, trying putting it in neutral, then switch to 4x4 high and put it into gear. If it goes into high you should be able to get it into 4x2 while in gear. 4x4 low is sometimes fickle when it comes to switching back and forth.

Try this. On level ground. Start the truck, put in reverse and let it roll back a couple feet on its own, put your foot hard on the brake and shift the xmsn to neutral keeping your foot on the brake, then switch it to 4 Hi. Now put it in drive and let it pull forward at which time it should go to 4 Hi and then you can switch it to 2 Hi.
The GEM has to detect signal from the brake and clutch switch (if manual trans) before it sends a signal to the relay that actuates the motor to shift ranges. In "Auto" position the hubs are engauged by a vacum line to the front wheels.
