Coors Brewery Tour – Tour Information and Tips for Visiting

Coors brewery tour bus

As a Minnesotan, and one from the land of sky blue waters, it’s sacrilegious for me to claim my love of the beer which is born in the Rocky Mountains — Coors Light. But, I unabashedly continue to order my silver bullets and after a visit to the Coors Brewery in Golden, Colorado, I am even more of a patron today.

Coors brewery from outside

Coors Brewery Tours – Golden, Colorado

Tours are about $20 per person. Check the website for hours. You can make reservations online or over the phone. It’s really better than I had anticipated and I think you’ll have fun, too!

Booking Reservations for a Coors Brewery Tour

The first and most commendable thing I noticed when I booked my brewery tour (over the phone) was the tour booker told us we’d need to present ID and vaccination card upon check in. After traveling extensively in LA this summer and fall, I had been waiting for the time I’d have to pull out my vax card, but it never came. Here, we did get carded for both age and vaccination. The information upfront was extremely helpful for planning.

Brews from the Coors Brewery

If you have a larger group, book NOW. Do not wait! Luckily, there were only two of us, and we were super flexible, so we were able to find a two-person slot. Otherwise, it was booked out for a few weeks. That was in April. It will only get worse with tourist season underway.

New Tour, Different Flow

There are only about a dozen patrons on each Coors Brewery tour. A tour guide is with you at all times and tours last about an hour. You get three 8 oz. beers throughout the tour (if you are legal to drink, children are allowed on tour, but are given a different bracelet to designate them as underage.) The beers are perfectly paced with the information and duration of the tour.

Banquet Coors tour bus

Bonus: You get to keep the recycled Coors cups from your experience as fun souvenirs.

This is a different model than previous tours, so if you’ve done it before and didn’t’ love the experience, try it again. This was really a GREAT date for an afternoon of fun. Everything is streamlined and clean and the pace is perfect.

Coors Brewery Tours are Perfect for an Afternoon Date

We weren’t sure that we wanted to do a Coors brewery tour. After a weekend in Denver and the surrounding cities, trekking all over the front country and into the Rockies, we agreed this was one of the most carefree and simple fun memories we made. If you’re a beer enthusiast, this is a great time. Lots of bite-size history tidbits and sips of the cold, fresh beer made a great date! The beer is made with Colorado Rocky Mountain water. They keep it local, proudly. (Don’t worry: I asked–it’s NOT made from the stream on location.)

Coors brands

If you ARE coming from Denver, before you enjoy the tour, enjoy this amazing street taco joint we found which sets up the afternoon for success! Golden is a short drive from Denver (about 40 minutes from the Denver International Airport), but it’s worth the trip to experience the Coors brewery tour.

Coors Brewery can be seen from ...

The Coors brewery in Golden is restarting tours of the iconic beer-making facility this weekend after a two-year hiatus caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to an announcement Monday, the tour has undergone a revamp to “enrich visitors’ overall experience.” Changes include a new onsite lounge, free samples throughout the tour and complimentary aluminum cups for guests to take home.

Starting March 18, tours will take place every Friday, Saturday and Sunday with start times every 30 minutes from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The experience takes 90 minutes and costs $20 (plus tax). Attendees under 18 years old must be accompanied by an adult, and proof of vaccination is required for everyone.

Adolph Coors opened the original Coors brewery at the same site in 1873.  Reserve your Coors Brewery tour spot here.

Coors Brewery Tour

Coors Brewery Tour – Golden

The largest single brewery in the world, Coors Brewing Company, is located in downtown Golden. Tours and tastings are offered year-round and are open to guests of all ages as long as they are accompanied by an adult.

Explore a live working factory where every phase of the beer-making process is observed. The tours cost a fee and are self-guided with headsets available. There are learning stations around with pre-recorded descriptions. Reservations are required for all guests.

Hailing from Prussia, Adolph Coors, and Jacob Schueler established the brewery in Golden in 1873. The mountain on the Coors can is based on a Rocky Mountain peak in southwest Colorado.

Touring the Coors Brewery in Golden

There are two types of tours: self-guided (year-long) and guided tours (seasonally). The traditional 30-minute self-guided tour has educational stations and individual headsets. You get to enjoy a complimentary sample and three 10 oz beers afterward. During slower months, a live tour is given and they run for about 30 minutes.

You can also go on the Sampling-only tour where you go straight to the tasting room and try three complimentary beers. This is often what the locals do and you are free to partake in this tour daily. Enjoy some of Coors’s classic, seasonal, and even test-market beers. The whole operation lasts 1 – 1.5 hours including the shuttle, tour, and beer tastings. Drinking time may vary.

Getting There

Parking for the tour is located at 13th and Ford Streets, one block from the brewery. A free shuttle takes you downtown to the Coors factory and the driver usually tells you about the city of Golden on the way.

Tours and imbibing at the bar get busy during peak season, so plan weekdays and off-peak times when possible.

Haven't done the tour, but I have heard good things. You're looking at about a 30-40 minute drive from the Adams Mark.

http://www.colorado-for-free.com/FrontRangeNorth.htm

By "Coors Light Tour", I assume you mean a tour of the Coors Brewery ? This will give you more information on that tour:

I hate to admit it, but the Coors tour is fairly mediocre. Still though, I guess it's not a bad way to kill some time. If I were you, I'd drive a few more miles up I-70, past Golden, to Lookout Mountain. It's a nice little drive and from there you'll get a really cool view of the entire metro area. Should you decide to do the Coors tour, it shouldn't take you more than 30 minutes to get there from the Adams Mark.

Thanks for your honesty--I am defintiely thinking about passing on it--was just trying to entertain my husband!

On second thought, head just one more exit west past the exit for Coors and go check out Red Rocks. Underneath it there are two cool exhibits. One details the geologic history of the park, and the other has all sorts of displays and memorabilia from bands that have played there. Entrance to the exhibits is free.

There's always the coors "short tour". Basically you avoid doing the tour and go right to the tasting room. Years ago you could hang out in the tasting for for hours, but I think they have limited the number of samples one can get!!

Colorado's first brewpub opened in 1988 and was founded by a group of young urban pioneers that included John Hickenlooper, who went on to serve as Mayor of Denver for seven years and as the Governor of Colorado for two terms (the first former brewer to be elected as a state governor since Sam Adams in 1794). Today, the  Wynkoop Brewing Company  is the center of LoDo — Denver's hip historic district where century-old warehouses have been turned into more than 90 bars, brewpubs, restaurants and cafes.

Guided Private Tours

Denver microbrew tour.

Find out why Denver has been dubbed the "Napa Valley of Beer." The  Denver Microbrew Tour  is a 1.5-mile guided walking tour in downtown Denver's historic  LoDo  (lower downtown) neighborhood. The tour includes 10 samples at four of downtown's best breweries and tap rooms, including  Wynkoop Brewing Company   and  Rock Bottom Restaurant & Brewery . The guides are bona fide Denver brew aficionados, so you'll come out of this tour knowing more about beer than you ever thought possible. If street art is more your scene, join their RiNo Beer and Graffiti Tour, which winds past colorful murals in the River North Art District (RiNo)  on its path to four breweries (and possibly a cidery!).

Aspire Tours' Brews n' Views Tour

Get out into the mountains and sample the best of the Colorado brewing scene with Aspire Tours . On this small-group tour, you'll learn the history of brewing in the area and enjoy stunning views while you visit three breweries in mountain towns (including historic  Golden ) on this half-day tour.

Denver Brew Tours

Take a private tour of Denver's best breweries with up to 14 of your closest friends with Denver Brew Tours . What makes this tour different? YOU pick the breweries! Choose from any of the more than 100 local breweries in and around Denver and Boulder, or pick from Denver Brew Tours' list of nearly 50 partner breweries, grouped by region so your can maximize your time. With Denver Brew Tours, you're in control of everything except the driving. Prefer to keep your feet on the ground? The company also offers a walking tour of Denver’s Tennyson Street Cultural District, including tasting flights at three local breweries.

Mile High Bike Tours' Bike & Brew Tour

See some of the city’s best attractions by bicycle, including diverse public art, government buildings, beautiful parks, distinct architecture and all three professional sports arenas. Then, head to RiNo to sample some of Denver’s finest craft beer at a local hotspot on this approximately nine-mile, three-hour, fun-filled excursion.

Wynkoop's architecture is typical of the neighborhood, with hardwood floors, exposed brick walls covered with artwork and big open windows. The second floor of the huge pub has 22 pool tables, multiple dart boards and other bar games. There are always more than a dozen craft beers on tap. The flagship beer (available in cans) is Rail Yard Amber Ale, a smooth amber with the malty flavor of an Oktoberfest lager. For a true Colorado experience, try Patty's Chile Beer, a German-style lager made with chiles and smoked Ancho peppers.

Direction to next stop:  Walk west on Wynkoop two blocks to the 16th Street Mall, then turn left and walk seven blocks to Curtis.

Rock Bottom Brewery

Today,  Rock Bottom Brewery  is a major chain with more than 30 breweries that produce 700 different craft beers that have won over 125 medals. But their brewery in Denver is the "mother ship," the first brewery of the chain when it opened in 1990. Rock Bottom has one of the best locations on the 16th Street Mall, Denver's mile-long pedestrian promenade. There are 41 outdoor patios along the Mall, but the one at Rock Bottom is the largest and one of the most popular. On summer weekends, bands play and hundreds of people gather to sip craft beer on the patio under twinkling lights, as horse-drawn carriages clatter by. The interior of the massive bar is built around towering glass windows displaying the brewing equipment. It can be noisy, crowded and fun, as the bar brings in an attractive crowd of young downtown office workers. For a quieter experience, head to the back bar, which has pool tables and a staff that's both knowledgeable and passionate about craft beer. Rock Bottom features the standard IPAs, Red Ale, White Ale, Dark Ale and a Winter Tartan Ale, as well as the always popular Molly's Titanic Brown Ale. The brewmaster at each pub creates specials, so check what's on the current beer list, and especially look for the hand-pulled cask-conditioned ales in the back room.

Direction to next stop:  Catch the free MallRide bus at the corner of 16th and Curtis and take it north to the final stop at the Union Station Light Rail. Walk back to 16th Street and over the Millennium Bridge (easily identifiable by the tall white mast). Continue straight through the Riverfront development and across Commons Park to a second pedestrian bridge over the South Platte River. On the other side of the bridge, walk one block to Platte Street and turn right. Denver Beer Company is on the far side of the street.

denver-beer-company-patio-hops

Take a seat outside and enjoy the sunshine at Denver Beer Co.

Denver Beer Company

Denver Beer Company  is one of the city's favorite tap rooms — a place that really captures the laid-back feeling of The Mile High City. Located in a former auto garage, on warm days the "walls" of the pub literally roll up, making the whole building open air. There's an outdoor patio with picnic tables next to a space where different food trucks park every day.

Denver Beer serves only delicious homemade pretzels and beer, but you're welcome to bring your own food or purchase food at the rotating food trucks. Dogs are welcome too, and it's a rare day when there aren't at least a few pups at the bar or on the patio. Owners Charlie and Patrick began as home brewers and are dedicated to making the finest and most inventive beers in the city. There are usually a dozen small-batch beers on tap that rotate regularly. Check the chalkboard to see what's available. If Graham Cracker Porter is on tap, make that your choice. It's been described as "a campfire in a glass with notes of vanilla, smoked cedar and mulling spices." This is a neighborhood bar where people stop in after a bike ride or a run. Even Denver Mayor Michael Hancock is a fan — he helped Patrick and Charlie make a pumpkin ale here to kick off Denver Beer Fest in 2012.

Direction to next stop:  Turn right from the brewery and in a half block, head west over a third pedestrian bridge, which crosses I-25. Continue up 16th Street as it changes into Tejon Street, then turn right onto Erie Street just past Hirshorn Park. Turn left on 17th Street and walk up one block to your next destination, on your right.

Recess Beer Garden

After crossing the bridge, you've entered LoHi, one of Denver's hippest and fastest-growing neighborhoods. Before you reach your next destination, stop on 16th Street when you see a 30-foot-high milk can. This is the legendary  Little Man Ice Cream , where they produce hand-made, small-batch ice cream, created with some of the finest local ingredients. Relax with a triple scoop (we're partial to the Salted Oreo) in their outdoor ice cream garden. For those poor souls who have trouble with milk? They sell a Lactaid pill for 50 cents!

Now, on to the next sip. Recess Beer Garden  is a great introduction to this section of town. Although no beer is brewed here, Recess offers 24 beers on tap, including plenty of local and Colorado drafts, along with out-of-state brews, ciders, seltzers, wine, cocktails and kombucha. The staff is beer savvy and will work with you to find the perfect selection, whether it's light, hoppy, malty or complex. Post up in the beer garden with some friends as you play yard games and enjoy everything Denver and Colorado have to offer.

Directions to next stop:  Exiting Recess, turn right and then take another immediate right onto 32nd Avenue. Walk two and a half blocks east until you reach a sharp turn in the road — and your next destination.

Avanti F & B

If all this walking has worked up an appetite, end your night with dinner (and another beer) at  Avanti F & B , one of Denver's most popular spots for foodies. Inspired by European markets and food-truck roundups, Avanti bills itself as a modern-day food hall, offering up seven different restaurant concepts under one roof. Grab a Neapolitan-style pizza, some TexMex BBQ or a traditional arepa. There are also two large bars — one upstairs and one downstairs — with 20 draft beers on tap, many from local breweries.

Directions to next stop:  Return to the Light Rail station the same way you came. From here, you can catch the free shuttle to anywhere on the 16th Street Mall.

Brewery Tours Outside of Denver

Farm house at breckenridge brewery.

Take a tour of the bucolic Breckenridge Brewery  facility in  Littleton . You'll walk through the whole brewing process and see from start to finish how Breck Brew gets the beer to your bottle. Everything from the 100-barrel brewhouse, to the fermentation hall, to the bottling line...and all with a complimentary beer in your hand! You'll taste and talk about the company's different beers and how they're made. Tours cost $3 and begin and end in the tasting room. We recommend grabbing a meal at the excellent Farm House Restaurant while you're there.

Avery Brewing Company

One of Boulder's most beloved brewers,  Avery Brewing Company  is rapidly making headway on the national beer scene. Last year the company moved into a new $27 million "dream brewery" in north Boulder, upping both their brewing capacity and tap room seating.

Left Hand Brewing Co.

Located on the banks of Longmont's St. Vrain River, the patio is perfect for relaxation and beer appreciation. Since its founding in 1993,  Left Hand 's brews, including its iconic Milk Stout and Sawtooth Ale, have wowed beer connoisseurs, racking up dozens of medals at events like the Great American Beer Festival, the United States Beer Tasting Championships, the Brussels Beer Challenge, the World Beer Cup, the International Stockholm Beer & Whiskey Festival and more. You can also visit their newest location: Left Hand RiNo . The Denver outpost is a  full-service restaurant and bar, with 48 taps (including, of course, Left Hand's award-winning beers), along with wine, sake and cocktails.

An Insider’s Guide to Denver

Here’s everything to know when planning a trip to Colorado’s capital.

coors light tour in denver

While many travelers descend on Colorado to take advantage of world-class ski resorts like Aspen and Vail, the city of Denver has a lot to offer. The Colorado capital dates back to the origin of the Old West, but has seen a modern revival over the past few decades, including the revitalization of its historic Union Station and the growth of hip neighborhoods like the River North Arts District and Highland. It houses several major sports teams, including the Denver Broncos, but it’s also home to numerous art museums, a top-notch performing arts complex and a thriving culinary scene. Last year, Colorado got its first inclusions in the Michelin Guide , with three restaurants earning a star and eight scoring a Bib Gourmand.

The city welcomes travelers all year long, with benefits to each season. Most Rocky Mountain ski resorts stay open through April , making Denver an easy stop before or after a ski trip. For those who prefer to avoid the winter traffic, the Winter Park Express runs from Union Station to Winter Park through March, while Aspen is a four-hour drive or a one-hour flight. May brings the Denver Arts Festival, while Denver Pride arrives in June, and 2024 also marks the first-ever Outside Festival . Whenever you’re visiting, there is a ton to experience around Denver. Here’s our guide to the best places to stay, dine and drink, and what to do on your next visit to Denver.

Downstairs, guests will find Super Mega Bien, a Latin restaurant led by chef Dana Rodriguez , and DC/AM, a coffee shop and breakfast spot. There’s also a small fitness center. The hotel feels connected to the surrounding River North Art District, a vibrant area filled with restaurants, food halls, yoga studios and more. Where to Eat

The wolf’s tailor.

4058 Tejon St, Denver, CO 80211

The Wolf’s Tailor, helmed by chef Taylor Stark , is one of Colorado’s flagship Michelin-starred restaurants. The innovative spot serves a multi-course tasting menu that focuses on the season, with wine, mixed drink and zero-proof pairings available. It’s a tricky reservation to score these days—guests can sit indoors or in the heated outdoor tent—and requires a pre-paid booking. The fall seasonal menu is available through April, when the chef will switch things up to celebrate spring.

2843 Larimer St, Denver, CO 80205

Beckon, an 18-seat chef’s counter, changes its eight-course menu quarterly with the seasons. The dishes are discerning and artful, drawing inspiration from chef Duncan Holmes ’ world travels. Guests can augment the experience with a selection from the wine list, a cocktail or zero-proof drink or a craft beer. The creative, globally-inclined restaurant earned another of the initial Colorado Michelin stars last year. Book as early as possible since seating is limited. Nearby, Beckon’s sister restaurant Major Tom serves up more casual dishes alongside a lengthy wine selection.

2550 E Colfax Ave, Denver, CO 80206

Modern Vietnamese eatery Sắp Sửa is one of Denver’s newest additions, having opened in the summer of 2023 after existing as several pop-up spots. The sleek restaurant, led by Ni and Anna Nguyen, serves contemporary and cleverly unusual takes on traditional classics, including phở and bún. Don’t miss the vegetable dishes, especially the charred cabbage, or the indulgent, creative dessert. The restaurant is often fully booked, so plan for early dinner (they open at 4:30 p.m.) or try your luck with the bar seats. It’s one of those places you’ll want to say you knew about from the very beginning. Bonus: It’s next to the Tattered Cover bookstore.

Located in the Thompson Denver, Chez Maggy is chef Ludo Lefebvre ’s homage to Denver. It’s a French brasserie that serves classic dishes with Colorado ingredients, including lamb and trout, as well as a French-heavy wine list. While Lefebvre’s cuisine is typically associated with Los Angeles and his home region of Burgundy, his mother-in-law’s life and work in Colorado inspired his efforts here. It’s open for brunch and dinner, as well as aperitif hour in Bar M. Reservations are a good idea when coming for dinner.

1889 16th St Mall, Denver, CO 80202

Tavernetta, a sister restaurant to Boulder standout Frasca Food and Wine , draws its inspiration from Italy, which is best enjoyed in the form of its handmade pastas. The dishes pair tradition with a contemporary flair and are available for dinner and a more casual lunch. The wine list is extensive, paying homage to Italian producers, and the cocktail menu features popular beverages like spritzes and negronis. Reservations aren’t necessary, but it’s helpful to book ahead, especially since the restaurant’s buzz has been extra high since it earned a Bib Gourmand last year. If you’re short on time, the restaurant’s happy hour is held daily from 4 to 6 p.m.

Alma Fonda Fina

2556 15th St, Denver, CO 80211

Alma Fonda Fina, found in the hip Lower Highlands neighborhood, opened in December 2023 and has since wowed locals with its contemporary fine dining take on Mexican cuisine. It’s helmed by chef Johnny Curiel , who pays homage to his upbringing in Guadalajara in many of the dishes. Standouts include the crudo, served three different ways, and the birria de borrego, a braised lamb shank dish that melts in your mouth. Alma Fonda Fina showcases what’s new and exciting about the Denver restaurant scene, which has completely transformed in recent years. Pop in for happy hour in the afternoons, or enjoy dinner every day until 11 p.m. Reservations are a good idea, particularly if you’d like to sit at the chef’s counter.

Where to Drink

Williams & graham.

3160 Tejon St, Denver, CO 80211

Denver has a strong—and rapidly growing—cocktail scene, but Williams & Graham is the established favorite. The menu features more than 60 classic cocktails, although you can ask for anything and the bartenders will know what to do. The bar also serves food for hungry guests (order the Royale With Cheese) and has beloved Denver brand Little Man Ice Cream on offer for dessert. Reserve a table in advance.

coors light tour in denver

Death & Co

Located in The Ramble Hotel, Death & Co is a New York City import known for its craft cocktails and high-end service. The Denver outpost serves food and drinks, with breakfast on offer every morning and bar food like burgers and fried chicken available later in the day. Try one of the original cocktails, which include zero-proof options, or go for a local beer. It’s open to both hotel guests and visitors, making it a good stop while in the neighborhood.

coors light tour in denver

Room for Milly

1615 Platte St Suite 145, Denver, CO 80202

Room for Milly is one of the newer additions to the Denver bar scene. It’s a chic, contemporary spot that shakes and stirs original cocktails inspired by global flavors. The menu features an array of drinks, including zero-proof options, beer, wine and sake, with a daily happy hour. It’s a great place for a pre-dinner cocktail or a nightcap, with easy access to the restaurants in the Lower Highlands or Union Station. In a city focused on beer and rowdy breweries, bars like this feel like a peaceful, high-end haven.
