Disneyland VIP Tour Offerings

Before we dive into the details of VIP Tours at Disneyland, we will cover an overview of what is included when you book a VIP tour.

  • Personalized planning
  • Expedited access to attractions
  • Expert VIP Tour Guide who will accompany you through the parks
  • Reserved viewing for entertainment

Note that the price of the VIP Tour does not include park admission, so you will need to purchase this separately. We will discuss the pricing more for Disneyland VIP Tours below. Guests may decide to splurge on a VIP Tour due to the significant perks it offers and not having to worry about the hassle of long wait times and having to plan out their day. You can truly maximize your time in the parks and soak up the magic, enjoying your personalized itinerary with your expert VIP Tour guide taking great care of your group's every need.

Below, we will share more details about each aspect of the Disneyland VIP Tours we listed above.

VIP Tour Guide

One of the most defining aspects of your VIP Tour experience is your VIP Tour Guide. Before your tour, VIP Services or Guest Relations will reach out to you to get a sense of what you'd like in your tour and match you with an expert guide who will be the best fit for your interests. Depending on what your priorities are (like riding all of the top attractions or learning about behind-the-scenes secrets), they will find a tour guide who will be best suited to that to make sure you have the best day possible.

During the VIP Tour, the Tour Guides will share interesting facts, tips, and behind-the-scenes stories about the parks that really elevate your experience. The VIP Tour Guides are also experts at navigating the parks and always have a good sense of what is going on during the day. Beyond the basic knowledge of what is currently offered and not offered at the parks, they know the precise nuances of all of the park happenings so that they can help you navigate the parks effectively and make the most of your experience.

VIP Tour Guides can also pick up mobile orders for you to help you make the most of your time. You'll still pay for the food, but this can be a great time-saver.

Disneyland VIP Tour Personalized Scheduling

One of the biggest advantages of Disneyland VIP tours is the personalized scheduling that is included with the experience. Once you have booked your VIP Tour experience, a VIP Tour Coordinator will help with details like dining reservations, start times, any celebrations to note for the day, and your party's priorities. The VIP guides will also make Park Pass reservations for your party as well.

You will have a customized itinerary planned for the day that is tailored specifically to your group's preferences and interests. See our Disneyland & Disney California Adventure 1 Day Itinerary for an idea of what you'd like to prioritize. This itinerary can be flexible if there are any spontaneous changes your group may decide on.

VIP Tour guests can express interest in certain experiences, and as long as these don't interrupt the normal flow of guests at the park, Disney will try to make it happen for you on your tour. For example, guests could request to see a certain character and enjoy expedited access to permanent character meet-and-greet locations that have backstage access.

With so much of the current Disneyland experience revolving around planning, it is a huge benefit to have all of this taken care of for you so you can focus on having fun and enjoying the experience!

VIP Expedited Access to Attractions

Another benefit included in Disneyland's VIP Tours is expedited access to attractions so you can enjoy as many offerings as possible during your park day. For attractions that offer Genie+ Lightning Lane, this will be through the Lightning Lane entrance. This includes some of the most popular rides of the park with Individual Lightning Lanes like Radiator Springs Racers and Rise of the Resistance. Guests will get the benefit of not needing to make Genie+ reservations or figure out the best time to ride during the day.

For attractions that don't have a Lightning Lane entrance, you will likely enter with your party from the exit, so the wait is shorter than what a Lightning Lane wait would typically be for these experiences. The ability to access rides with significantly shorter wait times, without needing to juggle Genie+ , stand in long lines, and strategize when to get on certain rides, is one of the biggest perks of the Disneyland VIP Tour.

Disneyland VIP Tour Reserved Viewing for Entertainment

During a Disneyland VIP Tour, you'll also be able to enjoy special reserved viewing for entertainment like fireworks, parades, and shows. You don't need to enjoy this reserved viewing during the time of your tour, and we do suggest seeing them outside of that time frame so you can fully enjoy the tour offerings.

This prime viewing is a fantastic perk that VIP guests get to enjoy without needing to stake out a spot hours in advance. Especially for evening shows, it's the perfect way to end a great day after your tour experience. You can see our guides to parades at Disneyland and fireworks at Disneyland for everything you need to know about the current entertainment offered!

Disneyland VIP Tour Pricing and Details—How to Get the Best Prices!

Disneyland VIP Tours start at $500 per hour for up to 10 guests with a minimum of 7 hours and a maximum of 10 hours (gratuities are not included), so the cost of this experience starts at $3,500. Once you book the VIP Tours, these are non-refundable when canceled 48 hours or less before arrival. Strollers and wheelchairs are complimentary with your VIP Tour. VIP Tour schedules are flexible within normal park operating hours.

The price of the VIP Tour does not include park admission, and you need to have Park Hoppers if you are planning on visiting both Disneyland and Disney California Adventure. You can book the VIP Tour experience about a year in advance, although the exact hourly rates may not be available until closer to the date of your tour.

Disneyland Resort is undeniably magical—and that’s part of its charm. But understanding how the magic is made can be entertaining too. You can get sneak peeks and hear some amusing anecdotes on the resort’s cool tours .

Perfect for first timers, or for veteran Disneyland-ers who want to bone up on cool trivia, the Welcome to Disneyland Tour provides a thorough introduction to both Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure Park—plus there are plenty of anecdotes to make you feel in the know.

In Disneyland Park, the Walk In Walt’s Disneyland Footsteps tour offers an intimate perspective and opportunity to experience attractions significant to Walt’s past, in addition to those that connect with Walt’s very personal vision .  Personal VIP tours are also available, and the specialised Star Wars at Disneyland tour offers a Jedi’s-view perspective of the resort’s many attractions related to the saga. The subject-specific Cultivating the Magic tour sheds light on Disneyland’s extensive gardens.

Special Tours at Disneyland disneyland-00-full

The undisputed granddaddy of theme parks, Disneyland Resort has been leading the way since 1955, inviting visitors to spend the day in the ultimate land of make-believe. This beloved Anaheim institution serves up vintage rides like the Matterhorn Bobsleds and the Alice in Wonderland Mad Tea Party teacup ride, as well as experiences featuring new innovations, like the incredible special effects, freefall thrills and multiple storylines of the Guardians of the Galaxy Mission: BREAKOUT! adventure, or mystical mouse antics in Mickey and the Magical Map . The sprawling resort, which consists of the original Disneyland Park and the adjacent Disney California Adventure Park , is divided up into themed 'lands' with related rides, shows and attractions.

Keep your map, whether in your pocket or on your phone, handy to make sure you’re heading where you want to go (with all the different 'lands' and activities it’s easy to get a bit disorientated). Once you get in, reduce the time you spend queuing at attractions by using the resort’s Fast Pass system, which allows you to use your ticket at a dedicated time later in the day. Download the free Disneyland Mobile app to know where to head next for the shortest queues, buy your tickets, browse maps and even locate Disney characters.

To make the most of your time here, stay at one of the resort’s three on-site hotels, which extend the Disney ambience through themed decor and character breakfasts—and which also offer guests Extra Magic Hours , a one-hour head-start admission to the theme park rides on selected mornings.

Don’t-Miss Snacks at Disneyland Resort

Plenty of people come to Disneyland Resort just for the classic rides, the Main Street parades and to snap selfies in front of Sleeping Beauty’s Castle. Serious fans though, know to centre their activities around one vital feature: snack time. Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure Park have both launched a variety of only-in-Disneyland culinary experiences, many of which have developed their own cult followings. While some legendary Disneyland snacks are seasonal, such as the hand-pulled candy canes, available in limited quantities during the Christmas season , here are 10 snacks that you can enjoy year-round.

Mickey Doughnuts

The New Orleans Square area of Disneyland offers two options for the Crescent City-inspired, mouse-shaped pastries. If you want to sit down for your snack, go to Cafe Orleans , where your order will include vanilla crème anglaise and fruit-coulis dipping sauces. Fans also rave about the non-mouse-shaped doughnuts in Downtown Disney at Ralph Brennan’s Jazz Kitchen .

For more portable versions, go to the Mint Julep Bar in New Orleans Square, where an order of three comes in a paper bag and is dusted with plenty of icing sugar. (Note: The lime-and-mint beverages in question are non-alcoholic.) With the return of the Fantasmic evening pyrotechnics show in Frontierland, the Mint Julep Bar now also serves purple-sprinkles-covered Blackberry Doughnuts.

This non-dairy frozen treat debuted at Disneyland in 1976, created exclusively for Adventureland by the folks at Dole Pineapple. It has developed a passionate cult following and has been called ' a work of art ' and even has a podcast named after it, and is now offered at other Disney parks, as well as at a few other selected locations. The original though, is available at the Tiki Juice Bar stand outside the Enchanted Tiki Room. Order yours as a soft-serve, a float with pineapple juice, or be a rebel and ask for the lone pineapple spear. A pleasant surprise: the classic Dole Whip soft serve only contains about 100 calories.

Matterhorn Macaroons

These mountain-shaped coconut treats covered with white-chocolate icing and sugary 'snow' are a rarity among Disney-themed goodies in that they’re based not on a character, but a ride. The classic Matterhorn rollercoaster is even within view of the macaroons’ Main Street home, the Mary Poppins-themed Jolly Holiday Bakery Café (look for the tell-tale weather vane on top).

For anyone who gets confused about the difference between chewy macaroons and the airy sandwich-biscuit macaron, try one of the bakery’s Raspberry Rose Mickey Macarons to settle the matter for good. A bonus: The Jolly Holiday has been applauded for having the best coffee in the parks.

Premium Mickey Ice-Cream Bars

The much-beloved Mickey choc ices found at kiosks around the two parks are like the little black dresses of frozen treats: Mickey-shaped vanilla ice cream dipped in Nestlé chocolate. To broaden your horizons try the Premium Ice Cream Sandwich version, whose wafers get rave reviews for having a little more crispiness than typical ice-cream sandwiches, and whose ice-cream centre is cookies ‘n’ cream flavoured.

Little Red Wagon Corn Dogs

While corn dogs (deep-fried maize-coated sausages on sticks) may seem like basic fare for a theme park, Disney superfans and foodies alike swear by the Disneyland version, found at an old-school-style food truck, the Little Red Wagon, near the   Plaza Inn on Main Street. The secret: these chicken-and-beef dogs are hand-dipped in a house batter, helping them achieve that crunchy-on-the-outside, soft-on-the-inside perfection. You can also get the same dogs at the Stagedoor Café in Frontierland and Award Wieners in California Adventure's Hollywood Land.

Turkey Legs

The jumbo drumsticks offered at hot-food stands around the two parks such as Edelweiss Snacks in Fantasyland and the hot-foods cart in Hollywood Land—have inspired so much awe that an urban legend once circulated that they actually came from ostriches (they don’t). Granted, the hickory-smoked legs look large, even for a turkey (they come from males) and the salt curing gives them an almost ham-like flavour. They are certainly a commitment: each one weighs 750 g.

Themed Churros

There are more than a dozen churro carts dotting the parks, from outside The Haunted Mansion in Disneyland to A Bug’s Land in California Adventure and the fried-dough treats have even inspired their own souvenir shirts over the years. Keep an eye out for limited-edition variations, such as golden sugar-dusted churros in honour of Pirates of the Caribbean, or the Jedi-worthy, red and blue-sugared 'light-sabre' churros in Tomorrowland.

Toffee Apples

They’re almost too pretty to eat. Disneyland Resort’s toffee apples offer a canvas for edible artistry, like the Mickey and Minnie apples at Trolley Treats in California Adventure, Winnie the Pooh apples in Disneyland’s Pooh Corner or the Gourmet Apple of the Month (like a dark chocolate raspberry apple) at the Candy Palace & Candy Kitchen on Main Street (watch staff making the apples through the confectioner's window).

Ghirardelli Sundaes

In its cultural and culinary rendering of the Golden State, Disney California Adventure Park has embraced one key representative of San Francisco: Ghirardelli Chocolate. The Disney branch of the Ghirardelli Soda Fountain & Chocolate Shop , located in the Pacific Wharf section, offers up scoops and chocolate-doused sundaes, as well as the clearly meant-for-sharing Earthquake, with eight scoops of ice cream, eight toppings, bananas, whipped cream and more. Don’t miss the mural of San Francisco in the shop, which reacts to your order: buildings shake when you order an Earthquake, and a prospector pans for gold if you get the hot-fudge-and-peanut-butter Gold Rush.

In the Cars Land area of California Adventure, 'refuelling' takes on new meaning at the Cozy Cone Motel , a snack stand with five different cone-based treat options, from the chilli-filled Chili Cone Queso to the flavoured-popcorn Pop Cones. Reviewers especially love the stand’s Chicken Verde Cone and Red’s Apple Freeze, a slushy made with apple juice, passion fruit, toasted marshmallow syrup and mango foam.

Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge

Main Street, USA & Sleeping Beauty Castle

Main Street, USA & Sleeping Beauty Castle

Walking along the vintage American streetscape of Main Street, USA, with the towers of Sleeping Beauty Castle rising in the distance—well, you know you’re in for something amazing. Take a stroll along Main Street, USA, the welcome mat of Disneyland Park , to see Walt Disney’s whimsical brilliance and use of fantasy rooted in reality.

Shop names and building designs allude to his own past, or to those of other Disneyland 'imagineers'. For example, Hotel Marceline is named after the small town in Missouri where Disney spent part of his youth. Period photos of Fort Collins, provided by Disney imagineer Harper Goff who grew up in the Colorado town, helped inspire the design of some buildings.

Sleeping Beauty Castle has a more direct inspiration. It’s based on a 19th-century Bavarian castle in Neuschwanstein, Germany. (To see the original, take Soarin’ Around the World , the virtual plane ride in neighbouring California Adventure that lets you zoom over a variety of iconic landmarks around the globe.) Although the drawbridge to the Disneyland castle actually works, it has only been lowered twice: when the park opened in 1955 and for the 1983 re-dedication of Fantasyland, which is entered by passing through the castle's archway.

Halloween Time

Disneyland Resort turns into a Halloween wonderland throughout October.  Halloween events —some scary, some not—include seasonal decorations at both theme parks, a ghoulish version of Disneyland Park’s Space Mountain and a nightmarish makeover at the Haunted Mansion. In Tomorrowland, freaky ghouls amp up the scream factor at Space Mountain Ghost Galaxy. And of course, there’s the iconic Haunted Mansion, which is decked out as Halloween Town, hosted by Jack Skellington from Tim Burton’s classic film, A Nightmare Before Christmas .

Disney California Adventure Park gets its own Halloween makeover, too: Guardians of the Galaxy takes on a Monsters After Dark theme, while Cars Land’s 'Haul-O-Ween' zone features costumed characters and the morphing of Radiator Springs into Radiator Screams. For some seasonal music, visit Mater’s Junkyard, which is turned into Mater’s Graveyard JamBOOree .

Disneyland Resort offers spook-free options too, including a massive hand-carved Pumpkin Festival on Main Street, USA. Check out the strolling characters in their Halloween garb (including a fair share of Disney villains), and see a traditional skeleton display honouring Dia de los Muertos in Frontierland.

Insider tip: consider splurging on tickets to Mickey’s Halloween Party . Or join a Happiest Haunts Tour, where a 'ghost host' scares you with special pranks and adventures as you tour the parks throughout the Halloween season.

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY – MISSION: BREAKOUT halloween-time-02

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY – MISSION: BREAKOUT

The tallest building in Disney California Adventure Park houses a classic free-fall ride, but Guardians of the Galaxy–Mission: Breakout is also the home base for a distinct group of characters within Disneyland Resort : superheroes. The Marvel Comics -themed ride deftly combines a shriek-inducing drop with a pop music soundtrack and the cheeky characters of the Guardians of the Galaxy comic-book and film series.

The 56-metre-high structure in the Hollywood Land section of the park used to be known as the Tower of Terror, which took riders into a haunted, Twilight Zone -themed adventure. But unlike its spooky predecessor, Mission: Breakout has an upbeat, even free-wheeling vibe. (Even so, the ride is intense enough that it’s only recommended for teenagers and older.)

The ride’s storyline follows Rocket (the mechanically minded raccoon Guardian) as he hatches a plan to liberate his fellow Guardians who have become trapped inside The Fortress, a museum of space creatures and oddities overseen by long-standing comic-book villain The Collector.

As the ride begins, look out for the various treasures in the glass display cases that The Collector has already amassed in his bottom-floor museum, a rotating exhibition of Marvel-themed props and gizmos, including Chitauri blasters from the Guardians of the Galaxy series, and Asgardian weaponry of Thor or Avengers fame. Then, a lift takes you up the tower, but as Rocket’s plan goes awry—in various ways—you end up in free-fall.

Fully experiencing Mission: Breakout, however, means going on it at least six times, since there are that many unique variations on Rocket’s escape scenarios and each scenario gets its own catchy soundtrack (the Guardians’ leader, Star-Lord, has a passion for mix-tapes). One experience might feature Pat Benatar’s 'Hit Me With Your Best Shot', and another, The Jackson 5’s 'I Want You Back'.

To keep the groove going, check out the 'Awesome Dance Off' parties staged near the ride, where you can flaunt your moves and meet and greet characters including Groot, the loveable talking-tree Guardian.

Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: Breakout

Themed lands

From glimpses of the future in Tomorrowland to the rustic world of Frontierland, the scenery changes quickly at the Disneyland Resort theme parks . Take a swashbuckling cruise (and look for Johnny Depp as the devilish Captain Jack Sparrow) on the raucous Pirates of the Caribbean ride, then step outside into the smell of fresh doughnuts in New Orleans Square. It is a quick walk to Fantasyland, where young children can catch a ride on an elephant on the classic Dumbo ride, and pint-sized princesses wait with wild-eyed anticipation to meet Elsa, Ariel, Belle and other classic Disney heroines. Disney fans of all ages will find plenty of timeless cultural references: the classic rides here include nods to Mary Poppins, Peter Pan , Alice in Wonderland, Snow White and even The Wind in the Willows (Mr Toad’s Wild Ride, one of the park’s original rides, was loosely based on the children’s classic).

Make sure your youngsters are light-sabre ready for any adventures by signing them up for Jedi Training Academy. Travel into the deep and see Dory and the gang on the Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage, or zap your opponents with lasers in Toy Story inspired Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters. For more galactic explorations, blast off on Space Mountain.

Rev up for retro fun in Cars Land , one of the star attractions in Disney California Adventure Park. This colourful high-octane ‘land’ recreates the world of Radiator Springs from the Cars animated film series. The tongue-in-cheek nod to Route 66 icons include comfort foods at Flo’s V8 Café and the colourful rocky outcroppings and Southwest landscapes of the Cadillac Range. At the Cozy Cone Motel—the main character meet-and-greet spot—stop for a churro, soft-serve ice cream or a Chili Cone Queso (chili, cheese and tortilla chips served in a bread cone).

Of course, what would a trip to Cars Land be without a road trip? So buckle up for the ride of your life on the Radiator Springs Racers, where you’ll come grille-to-grille with Lightning McQueen, Doc Hudson and other popular characters from the film. Your six-person car will race side-by-side with your competition, zooming over hills and through turns at high speeds en route to the finish line. Although the ride picks up some speed and features a few dips, the rollercoaster is incredibly smooth. Take advantage of Disneyland’s FASTPASS service for this ride to avoid the queues, available in the park or on the Disney MaxPass app.

If you’re entertaining younger children, take them to Mater’s Junkyard Jamboree for a barn-dance-style spin on dancing tractors. Or hop aboard the free-wheelin’ Italian micro-car replicas at Luigi’s Rollickin’ Roadsters and let your car dance across the courtyard on a trackless system.

MORE DISNEY CALIFORNIA ADVENTURE ATTRACTIONS

While Cars Land grabs much of the spotlight in Disney California Adventure Park , there are plenty of other amazing attractions in this part of the resort. A ride that ranks as one of the resort’s biggest crowd pleasers is Soarin’ Round the World in Grizzly Peak Airfield. Strap yourself into simulated hang gliders to swoop through the air and get bird’s-eye views of iconic locations around the globe, such as the Great Pyramids of Egypt, Sydney Harbour and two places that inspired features in the Magic Kingdom: the Matterhorn in the Swiss Alps and the 'Sleeping Beauty' castle in Bavaria .

Next up (and preferably when it’s hot), experience the thrill of a white-water rafting trip in the Sierra Nevada with a splashy ride down the Grizzly River Run . Take a clanging streetcar along Buena Vista Street, a carefully recreated homage to a Los Angeles neighbourhood circa 1923, when young Walt Disney first arrived from Missouri. Have freshly made chocolates or hand-dipped toffee apples at Trolley Treats, or—if you’re a grown-up—a retro Manhattan in the stylish bar at Carthay Circle, also serving classy fare by Chef Andrew Sutton in a swanky setting that feels like a vintage Hollywood supper club.

For classic rides, head to Pixar Pier , which opened in summer 2018 (formerly known as Paradise Pier) and features the Incredicoaster, Midway Games and a Ferris wheel—all featuring characters from Pixar movies such as The Incredibles , Inside Out and the Toy Story series. The film-character theme extends to food, too, from the Señor Buzz Churros and Hangry Dogs to the sit-down Lamplight Lounge , filled with Pixar sketches and memorabilia. Throughout the summer of 2018, all of Disneyland Resort is getting into the spirit with Pixar Fest , which features an array of Pixar-inspired entertainment—such as the Pixar-character-fuelled Paint the Night parade in California Adventure, the Pixar Play Parade in Disneyland Park, and the new nightly fireworks show, Together Forever—A Pixar Nighttime Spectacular , over Disneyland. Also don’t miss, at California Adventure’s Hollywood Land, the Pixar Shorts Film Festival , showcasing the acclaimed short films that precede Pixar’s films.

Holidays at the Disneyland Resort

Southern California is known for its sunshine and beaches, even in December. But you can still experience a winter wonderland when 'the happiest place on Earth' transforms into 'the merriest place on Earth' for the season.

Holidays at the Disneyland Resort is a special time, with magic around every corner. In Disneyland Park , there’s an 18-metre-tall Christmas tree in Town Square, complete with 70,000 lights and 2,000 custom-made ornaments. Wander down Main Street, USA with the smell of candy canes and gingerbread hanging in the air and decorations adorning the buildings.

Classic attractions take on a completely different feeling. Sleeping Beauty Castle sparkles with snow-capped towers, countless lights and a giant wreath. It’s a Small World Holiday dazzles with a spectacular light show and a seasonal version of the classic song. The Haunted Mansion gets a seasonal makeover too, courtesy of Jack Skellington and friends, for the Haunted Mansion Holiday. Fan favourites including A Christmas Fantasy Parade and Believe...in Holiday Magic make this time of year extra special.

Over in Disney California Adventure Park , a 15-metre tree sits on Buena Vista Street, and the spirit of the season is in full swing with the Festival of Holidays , featuring delicious foods and entertainment from many diverse cultures. And of course, Santa and his elves turn up at the Redwood Creek Challenge Trail for some seasonal fun and games.

There are seasonal treats throughout the resort as well, from themed doughnuts and gingerbread men to decorated toffee apples and the ever-popular candy canes. Only a limited number of candy canes are made, so make sure you queue up at park opening time at the Candy Palace in Disneyland or Trolley Treats in California Adventure for a chance to try this tasty treat. You can find out more by calling the Disneyland Candy Hotline on +1 (714) 781 0112.

Insider tip: while the parks’ Christmas trees are first lit for the year in early-to-mid-November, both Disneyland and California Adventure have tree-lighting ceremonies every day during the season at 5 pm. Carollers roam the parks singing Christmas favourites while the giant trees come to life.

Downtown Disney District

Open-air cafés, street musicians, sparkling shops and soaring temples to everything Disney—this tempting pedestrian zone in Anaheim is as must-see as the resort's two theme parks. If you’re hungry when you get here, you won’t be for long: find creative and delicious dishes at born-in-California favourites such as La Brea Bakery Café (the outdoor seating under leafy trees is particularly nice). Feel like you’re relaxing on an Italian piazza at Naples Ristorante e Pizzeria . Or take it up a notch with contemporary Mediterranean cuisine at Catal , created by Los Angeles-area chef-restaurateur Joachim Splichal.

For those with a sweet tooth, there’s a branch of upmarket cupcake purveyors Sprinkles —the creative cupcake bakery credited with launching the cupcake craze—that’s not to be missed. And save room for a few scoops of artisanal goodness from Salt & Straw , an innovative family-run ice cream shop that offers hand-made, small-batch seasonal flavours such as Mummy’s Pumpkin Spiked Potion and Sightglass Coffee Cashew Praline.

There’s also plenty of live entertainment, activities and shopping: New Orleans–inspired music is the main course at Ralph Brennan’s Jazz Kitchen® . Take the family bowling at the rock 'n roll-themed Splitsville Luxury Lanes after dining indoors or al fresco at the on-site restaurant Splitsville Dining Room . LIVE SHOWS & PARADES

Everyone loves a parade , and Mickey Mouse seems pretty fond of them too. Consider the daily Mickey’s Soundsational Parade , which begins along Disneyland Park’s Main Street, and includes a line-up of Disney characters and marching bands playing Disney melodies. Other parades light up the calendar, especially during the winter holidays. Visitors often line up for prime viewing in advance; keep your park guide handy to make sure you’re at the right spot when parades begin.

If it’s time for a break from the inevitable walking around the resort, relax with a live show . Favourites include Frozen: Live at the Hyperion , a surprisingly good Broadway-style production staged at the Hyperion Theatre, in California Adventure Park. Outside on Buena Vista Street, see a hyper-athletic song-and-dance routine by the Red Car Trolley News Boys, or get your bee-bop on with the Five and Dime jazz ensemble.

After sunset, keep an eye out for the fireworks that illuminate the sky above Sleeping Beauty Castle. Starring some of your favourite Disney characters and set to classic Disney tunes, it’s definitely a show you don’t want to miss. And with different shows throughout the year—from the patriotic Fourth of July show to the hauntingly fun Halloween Screams—you’re in for a spectacular treat year-round. (Fireworks are seasonal and subject to change without notice.)

Evenings also bring two different pyrotechnic shows: Disney California Adventure Park has World of Color (closed until late 2018), while Disneyland Park has Fantasmic , a 'battle between good and evil' featuring classic Disney characters, which plays out in Mickey Mouse’s mind and across the 18-metre-wide mists over Frontierland’s Rivers of America.

WORLD OF COLOUR

With fire, water and lasers, the nightly extravaganza of World of Color , at Pixar Pier in Disney California Adventure, is a definite dazzler. Disney characters materialise on an immense 'screen', created by projecting film clips onto the misty spray generated by 1,200 fountains shooting 60 metres into the night sky. To commemorate the 60th Anniversary of the Disneyland Resort, an all-new, special edition of 'World of Color' illuminates the night in a glittering, contemporary celebration of the colourful world of Walt Disney, whose pioneering vision brought Disneyland, Mickey Mouse, and a treasury of films and characters to life. Note: if you sit close to the harbour you might get soaked; ask Disney cast members where to sit if you want to be out of the spray zone.

To really feel like you’re part of the production, splurge on Glow with the Show Ear Hats. These high-tech Mickey Mouse ears have computer chips that make the ears change colour and flash in unison with the show and all the other ears throughout the show.

Getting Around Disneyland Resort

For a break from walking, board the iconic Disneyland Monorail. Futuristic when it made its début in 1959, the ride still feels surprisingly modern. Offering great views from an elevated rail, the Monorail covers a 2½-mile loop in 13 minutes. But it’s not the only way to get around Disneyland Resort .

For a very different train experience, the steam-powered Disneyland Railroad circles the park in 18 minutes, with stops at destinations such as Tomorrowland and Mickey’s Toontown. One of the five vintage narrow-gauge trains is named after Ward Kimball, a legendary studio animator and, like Walt Disney, a train enthusiast.

In the Magic Kingdom, you can also travel along Main Street, USA between Sleeping Beauty Castle and Town Square on old-fashioned streetcars, buses and fire engines, pulled by handsome heavy horses. At Disney California Adventure Park, all-electric Red Car Trolleys, like the ones that used to operate in Southern California, travel to four stops along Buena Vista Street.

Lodging at Disneyland Resort

Stretch the fantasies even further by staying at one of the resort’s on-site hotels. Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa aims to replicate the soaring wood-and-stone styling of The Majestic Yosemite Hotel in Yosemite Valley. The central great room, with cushy, oversized Arts-and-Crafts-style chairs, a soaring stone fireplace and live piano music, is a fantastic place to relax after a long day in the park. (Non-residents are welcome to dine and enjoy the lounges, too.) The guests-only pool feels like an exclusive party, with poolside drinks and plenty of lounge chairs and fluffy towels, and enough room for children and grown-ups to enjoy themselves. The full-service spa is open to all (appointments required).

For a sleek, retro-modern getaway, book a stay at the nearby Disneyland Hotel, which also offers whimsically themed accommodations, such as the Mickey Mouse Penthouse or the sumptuous Fairy Tale Suites. The Monorail Pool, with two towering watersides, is wildly popular; for a quieter retreat, relax in a plush lounger at the adjacent E-Ticket or D-Ticket pools.

Paradise Pier Hotel captures the spirit of an old-fashioned beach boardwalk, with rooms done up to look like you’re holidaying on the coast. Most popular spot? Check out the complex of rooftop pools and waterslides and we’ll let you guess.

Disneyland Resort for Younger Kids

Disneyland Resort for Younger Kids

Flying elephants, giant teacups, costumed characters making the rounds—for more than 60 years, this magical world of make-believe has been the happiest place on earth. Fantasyland, with all its low-thrill classics—including Peter Pan’s Flight and It’s a Small World—is the go-to spot for children aged 5 or younger, but queues are the longest here, too, so tackle it first thing. Staying at a Disneyland hotel means you can beat the queues by entering the park an hour before it opens to the public.

When you've had your fill of ride-hopping, skip over to Toontown to blow off some steam. Children will have a blast touring Mickey and Minnie’s homes, where anything goes—from climbing on Mickey’s furniture to snooping in Minnie’s fridge. (Spoiler: it’s stocked with cheese.)

You can always count on this Anaheim park to make it easy on parents. With the Disneyland App , you’ll have access to waiting times and the locations of their favourite characters, FastPass machines and, most importantly, toilets. There’s also a well-stocked baby care centre with private areas for breast-feeding, microwaves for warming food and potties for those who are toilet training.

New Year’s Eve & New Year’s Day

Disneyland stays open late on New Year’s Eve and offers extra entertainment, usually including live performances, an extra parade and fireworks. These festivities are included in regular park admission.

If you plan to visit one of the theme parks on New Year’s Eve (December 31) or New Year’s Day (January 1), be aware that these are two of the busiest days of the year. The parks (especially Disneyland) usually reach full capacity at some point during the day, and you may not be admitted (or re-admitted) to the parks after that point. (This is true even if you have a ticket, even if you’re staying at a Disney resort and even if you have dining reservations in the park. If the park is full, it’s full — Disney has to follow fire codes!) For that reason it’s best to arrive first thing in the morning and stay in the same park all day. Bring any sweaters or jackets you may need later and stow them in a locker when you arrive (the lockers will also sell out). Get Genie+ and buy paid Lightning Lane reservations right away, because the lines will be very long by noon and reservations will be gone quickly.

Disney hotels may offer a special dinner or party for New Year’s Eve, to find out go to the  Disneyland dining page .

In 2024, Three Kings Day was celebrated January 6.

January 6, Día de los Reyes Magos (Three Kings Day, also known as Epiphany or the Twelfth Day of Christmas), is a popular holiday in Mexico. The holiday celebrates the arrival of the Magi bearing gifts for baby Jesus, and Día de los Reyes Magos is the traditional day for Mexican children to receive Christmas gifts

The celebration in Paradise Garden at Disney California Adventure includes entertainment, Disney characters in festive attire, kids’ activities and specialty food items. It is the grand finale of Disney ¡Viva Navidad!

In 2025, the Disneyland Half Marathon Weekend will be held January 30 – February 2. Registration will open June 18, 2024.

The Disneyland Half Marathon Weekend includes a 5K, 10K, Half Marathon and more. The Half Marathon route will go through Disneyland Resort and Anaheim, with Disney characters cheering you along the way. The weekend begins with an early morning yoga class in front of Sleeping Beauty Castle. There will be a virtual race option for some race events.

Disneyland Magic Key holders, Walt Disney World annual passholders, DVC members and Club runDisney members are able to register ahead of the general public for some runDisney events. Check the annual passholder or DVC member website for details closer to the public registration date.

  • For more information or to register, go to the Disneyland Half Marathon page . Don’t wait too long to register; the races reach full capacity very quickly!

In 2024, Lunar New Year was celebrated January 23 – February 18.

The Lunar New Year celebration takes place at Paradise Gardens in Disney California Adventure and includes traditions from Chinese, Korean and Vietnamese cultures. In addition to the  Mulan’s Lunar New Year Procession parade, there are performers, musicians, local artisans, kids’ activities and specialty food items. Disney characters are there as well, including Mulan, Mushu, Raya, Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse.

Each night, before World of Color , the Lunar New Year Celebration culminates in a six-minute pre-show called Hurry Home , presented in water, animation and special effects on Paradise Bay. This story of a Little Lantern on its journey home to join its Lantern family to celebrate Lunar New Year features animated appearances by Mulan and Mushu in “dream sequences” inspired by traditional Chinese paper cut-out style animation.

  • More information can be found on the Disneyland Resort Lunar New Year page .

Celebrate Soulfully takes place during the month of February and highlights Black culture, stories and music. There will be special menu items available at restaurants in the theme parks and in Downtown Disney. Oogie Boogie Bash – A Disney Halloween Party is a separately ticketed night time event which gives kids and their families the opportunity to dress in their Halloween costumes and trick-or-treat throughout Disney California Adventure after it has closed to day guests.

Special Halloween activities at Disney California Adventure include:

  • Each night Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! turns into Guardians of the Galaxy – Monsters After Dark. As night falls, The Collector’s Fortress goes dark, alarms sound and all-new lighting on the exterior of the Fortress alerts guests that something inside has gone awry. Rocket discovers that in the hurry to free his friends (during the day), they have inadvertently left Groot behind. Now Rocket needs to distract all the monsters he has unleashed inside the Fortress, and he enlists the guests to help.
  • Buena Vista Street is decorated with Halloween décor inspired by Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas and Mickey Mouse and his friends will be decked out in their costumes. Oogie Boogie’s oversized silhouette beckons guests through the main entrance as a swarm of bats encircle Carthay Circle Theatre. A 10-foot-tall statue of the Headless Horseman of Sleepy Hollow, holding his jack-o’-lantern head up to the sky, will be in Carthay Circle.
  • In Cars Land, the citizens of Radiator Springs don their Halloween costumes and decorate their homes to celebrate Haul-O-Ween. From Fillmore’s Jack-Oil Lanterns and Flo’s Spider-Car to Witchy Miss Lizzie’s shop, everybody’s doing all they can to turn Radiator Springs into Radiator Screams! Mater’s Junkyard Jamboree becomes Mater’s Graveyard JamBOOree and Luigi’s Rollickin’ Roadsters transforms into Luigi’s Honkin’ Haul-O-Ween.

In 2023, Haunted Mansion Holiday started on September 1. It usually runs through early January.

The holiday-enhanced version of the attraction is a Disney California Adventure celebration where the traditions of Halloween and Christmas collide. The ghoulish but well-meaning Jack Skellington from the film Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas comes to the Haunted Mansion to transform it with his skewed vision of the holidays. The Hatbox Ghost, who recently rejoined the Mansion’s happy haunts, is staying to celebrate Halloween and Christmas with Jack Skellington and his friends. Inside the Mansion, you will find a Haunted Mansion Holiday gingerbread house.

In 2023, Oogie Boogie Bash was held September 5, 7, 10, 12, 14, 17, 19, 21, 24, 26, 28; October 1, 3, 5, 8, 10, 12, 15, 17, 19, 22, 24, 26, 29 and 31.

Oogie Boogie Bash – A Disney Halloween Party is held on select nights at Disney California Adventure after the regular closing and requires separate admission to attend. Attendees can enter Disney California Adventure for up 3 hours before the event starts. A theme park reservation is NOT required for the park mix-in and event.

This 5-hour event includes:

  • Villains Grove – The Redwood Creek Challenge Trail will be transformed into a world of Disney villains. This family-friendly experience will have a series of Halloween scenes, each creating a not-so-scary symphony of sound, light and shadows to explore.

It’s A Small World Holiday by Loren Javier ( CC )

In 2023, Holidays at Disneyland were held November 10, 2023 – January 7, 2024.

The park decorations start going up gradually right after Halloween and are complete by the beginning of the official holiday period. The ABC-TV Disney Christmas Parade special (which is broadcast on Christmas Day) is filmed in part at Disneyland, usually on the first or second weekend of November, so the decorations on Main Street, U.S.A. have to be in place by then.

Once the holiday period officially begins, Disneyland Park guests can enjoy a nightly holiday fireworks spectacular – Believe…in Holiday Magic . During the holidays, the fireworks show concludes with a magical snowfall down Main Street, U.S.A., Small World Mall and New Orleans Square.  A Christmas Fantasy,  Disneyland’s annual holiday parade, begins around the same time. Sleeping Beauty’s Castle becomes Sleeping Beauty’s Winter Castle – covered with shimmering icicles and twinkling lights. Several rides undergo a special holiday transformation:  Haunted Mansion Holiday and “it’s a small world” Holiday. Santa Claus greets guests in Critter Country through Christmas Eve (December 24).

Disney California Adventure celebrates the season with special decorations and entertainment offerings and the  Festival of Holidays . This event features diverse cultural holiday celebrations, including  Disney ¡Viva Navidad! , along with the global sounds of special guest musical groups. There is holiday décor in Cars Land and Buena Vista Street. World of Color – Season of Light, a special holiday version of World of Color, takes place on select nights throughout the season at Disney California Adventure. Holiday music and decorations transform Luigi’s Rollickin’ Roadsters into Luigi’s Joy to the Whirl and Mater’s Junkyard Jamboree into Mater’s Jingle Jamboree. Santa Claus greets guests at the Redwood Creek Challenge Trail through Christmas Eve (December 24).

In Downtown Disney, there are carolers and holiday décor. At the Downtown Disney Live! Stage there is live entertainment Friday through Sunday evenings through December 25th.

Decorations in the resort hotels and Downtown Disney usually go up right after Thanksgiving (substantially later than the park decorations). Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa is decorated with Craftsman-inspired décor, including natural garlands, a Christmas tree lit with “arts and crafts” lanterns and a giant gingerbread replica of the hotel in the lobby. Holiday sweets can be purchased from the lobby’s holiday cart. The midcentury Disneyland Hotel receives a retro-holiday look with silver trees and bright colors.

Santa visits all three Disney hotels starting in late November/early December through Christmas Eve (December 24). Local performers and holiday carolers perform throughout the holiday season at each resort hotel.

  • For more information, visit the Disneyland Resort’s Holidays at Disneyland Resort page .

In 2024, the Festival of Holidays at Disney California Adventure will begin on November 15, 2024. And end date has not been announced.

In 2023, the Festival of Holidays at Disney California Adventure was held November 10, 2023 – January 7, 2024.

The Festival of Holidays at Disney California Adventure features holiday festivities inspired by cultural traditions from around the world. Entertainment experiences throughout the park draw on the diverse celebrations that bring joy during this festive time of year, including Diwali, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Christmas/Navidad and Three Kings Day . This celebration also includes  Disney ¡Viva Navidad! , a celebration of Latino cultures. There is also  Mickey’s Happy Holidays, a dance party featuring Disney and Pixar characters and the Holiday Toy Drummers.

The Festive Foods Marketplace features holiday favorites from different cuisines and traditions. As part of the Festive Foods Marketplace, you can purchase a Sip and Savor Pass. The Sip and Savor pass has 8 tabs, each tab can be exchanged for one food item or one non-alcoholic beverage at participating Festive Food Marketplace locations.

World of Color – Season of Light , a special holiday version of World of Color, takes place on select nights throughout the season at Disney California Adventure. This nighttime spectacular combines classic holiday songs with memorable moments from Disney animated films to create an experience filled with magic.

Head into Redwood Creek Challenge Trail for Santa’s Holiday Visit, where you can meet Santa through Christmas Eve (December 24) and see how his joyful elves have transformed the area into a playground of holiday fun and games.

  • For more information, visit the Disneyland Resort’s Festival of Holidays page .

In 2023, Disney ¡Viva Navidad!  at Disney California Adventure took place November 10, 2023 – January 7, 2024.

Disney ¡Viva Navidad! is inspired by the warmth and joyous spirit of Latino cultures, filled with holiday traditions, jubilant dancing and exciting music. Based in and around the Paradise Garden area of Disney California Adventure, the special activities include crafts and face-painting for children, live music, dance lessons, holiday foods, a Disney ¡Viva Navidad! Street Party and, of course, appearances by some popular Disney characters.

Paradise Garden is decorated with holly, banners and Latino cultural icons, including traditional “papel picado” hand-cut paper art decorations. At the bandstand, guests can enjoy performances by traditional mariachi, Norteño, and other regional music groups. Community music and folklorico troupes will perform throughout the day. Disney ¡Viva Navidad! guests will find opportunities to enjoy fun arts and crafts, storytelling and face-painting, and they may also discover a selection of unique merchandise in the area. Dining locations in Paradise Garden feature Mexican dishes that are often served for the holidays.

The Disney ¡Viva Navidad! Street Party takes over Paradise Garden several times daily, featuring the Three Caballeros on a festive holiday float, Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse transported on colorfully decorated street tricycles, flag-bearers carrying papel picado banners, Mexican folklorico dancers, samba dancers and drummers, plus giant “Mojiganga” puppets, including representations of Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus.

The grand finale of Disney ¡Viva Navidad! is the special celebration of Three Kings Day (Día de los Reyes Magos) in Paradise Garden.

  • For more information, visit the Disneyland Resort’s ¡Viva Navidad!  page .

The Candlelight Processional at Disneyland Park is usually held the first weekend in December, with two performances each night, at 5:30 and 7:45 pm. Exact dates and narrators are not always announced in advance.

The annual event includes a celebrity narrator presenting the Biblical Christmas story as well as an orchestra and hundreds of choir members from local communities performing traditional carols. The members of the choir walk down Main Street, U.S.A. with lighted candles and gather in front of the train station in Town Square for the performance. Seating for this event is invitation-only. However, the general public can watch from any place not reserved for performers or invited guests.

Tips and tricks based on previous years:

  • MouseSavers reader Laura C writes: “There is limited seating in the town square in front of the train station. Those seats are reserved for VIP’s… However, there is plenty of room to stand and watch behind the seating. Still very enjoyable and didn’t cost us an extra dime. Hint: If you get there early enough you can stand on the porch of guest services and see right over the heads of everyone – awesome spot.”
  • Another reader reports in 2011 that she watched the second performance from the seats, without paying a dime. There were VIPs who paid $2,500 for a package including reserved seats. Once the VIPs were seated up front, the Cast Members allowed guests from the waiting crowd to take any unfilled seats. So it’s possible to get lucky!

In addition to the special parade, “snow” experience and fireworks at Disneyland, there are usually special buffet meals available on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Information and reservations usually become available about 60 days in advance, you can check . Check the Disneyland dining site  for information and reservations.

If you plan to visit one of the theme parks on Christmas Day , be aware that it is one of the busiest days of the year.

The Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique is next to Sleeping Beauty Castle in Fantasyland in Disneyland Park. Disneyland Park admission and a theme park reservation are required.

  • There are occasionally limited-time discounts or deals for Disney Vacation Club members , be sure to ask when booking and at check-in.
  • Note that you can bring your own princess costume from home and save a fortune vs. buying a costume at the Boutique!  Thanks to Carla C for info.

  • Birnbaum’s Disneyland Resort 2024 includes a coupon for 10% off bowling at the Downtown Disney location. Limited to groups of 10 or less and cannot be applied to lane reservations or private events. Expires 12/31/24.

From time to time, Disneyland offers special discounts to   Disney Vacation Club members  and  Disney Visa cardholders on various park tours. Reserve a tour up to 60 days in advance online or using the Disneyland app. Theme park admission and a theme park reservation are required.

Disneyland VIP Tours are private tours just for your group. You’ll be led around by a Host or Hostess who will tailor the tour to your interests. They can usually assist you in experiencing the attractions with minimal waits (you don’t always skip the lines, but they know which rides will have the shortest lines at which times and in many cases they are allowed to use the Lightning Lane entrance). When you set up a VIP Tour, you can also request restaurant reservations, special viewing areas for certain shows and parades, etc. The cost is $425-$700 per hour for up to 10 guests (varies seasonally and higher rate applies if booked less than 48 hours in advance). There is a 7-hour minimum. Park admission is required. If you don’t already have a theme park reservation, the VIP Tour Office will assist you with getting one for the day of the VIP tour.

There are no discounts on the VIP Tours. You can arrange a VIP Tour by calling Disney Special Activities at (714) 300-7710 . Unlike the other tours, VIP Tours can be booked 90 days in advance.

A Disneyland tour is just the thing for anyone who loves Disneyland and Walt Disney. But many of the most ardent Disney-loving fans never heard of them. They aren't well advertised, and it's hard to find information about them even if you know they exist.

If you're a true Disneyland fan, you may find taking a Disneyland tour is just the thing to add your Disney Bucket List. If you're a first time visitor, you may not want to tie up several hours of your day on a tour, but that depends on how much you love Disney.

This guide covers all the ways you can go behind the scenes at Disneyland, to see how they make the magic and get some insider stories,

Some Disneyland tours are seasonal, and others may only be offered during busier times of the year. You can get current prices and find out which tours are available  at the Disneyland Tour web page .

How to Reserve a Disneyland Tour

To take a tour on your own, you must be at least 18 years old. A paying adult must accompany guests under 16 years old, and there may be height restrictions on some of the included attractions.

To take a tour, you'll first need to buy a ticket to get into the park. It must be valid for the day you take the tour. To avoid disappointment, reserve your tour as soon as you can bu no more than 30 days in advance.

The only way to reserve your tour is by calling 714-781-8687. Write down the confirmation number they give you because you won't get a confirmation email. You must pay when you reserve and the fee is not refundable.

When you get to Disneyland, go to the tour kiosk near City Hall. Give them your confirmation number and be prepared to show your ID. Or give them your name and show them the credit card you used to pay for your reservation. You will meet your tour guide in the same area.

These are the Disneyland tours you may be able to take. Except for the Adventures by Disney tour, they don't include much that's really behind the scenes, but you will learn a lot and see things from a different perspective. The souvenir pins are unique fun collectibles, too.

Walk in Walt's Footsteps Tour : Designed for the Disney-lover, this 3.5-hour, fact-and-trivia-filled tour explores how Walt Disney's vision became a reality. The tour also includes a delicious meal and a collectible souvenir.

VIP Tour : Ths experience is just what you might imagine, with priority access to attractions, reserved seating, and a personal coordinator. Before you look at the price, know that it covers up to 10 people.

Behind the Scenes at Disneyland and in Hollywood

This multi-day tour definitely belongs on your Disney Bucket List, if you're a hardcore fan.

Adventures by Disney runs guided tours all over the world, but not are quite like their Backstage Magic tour. It's a six-day, five-night ramble you'll never forget. It goes behind the scenes at Disney Studios, Disney Imagineering, and both California theme parks. And the most fun is that you get into places not open to the public, which may include Disney Imagineering and Disney Studios.

Seasonal Disneyland Tours

Check the Disneyland website for seasonal tours. They include:

Disney's Happiest Haunts is a Halloween-themed tour that features some spooking sightings at Disneyland, spine-tingling tales. And of course - a collectible souvenir pin, which is redesigned every year.

Holiday Time at Disneyland tours are offered from mid-November through early January. They usually include a chance to explore all the holiday traditions and decorations. You also get express boarding for "it's a small world" Holiday and Haunted Mansion Holiday. And reserved seating for the Christmas parade. And to keep it fresh, they change parts of the tour every year.

Disneyland Resort VIP Tours

If the standard guided tours do not interest you, perhaps you can create your own private tour! But you have to have deep pockets for it!

Any Guest can book their own personal Disneyland VIP Tour for a group of up to 10 people, for the cool price tag of $500 to $700 per hour, with a minimum of 7 hours. So doing the math, that’s $3500 to $4900 as a starting price. That may sound high (and it is!) but if you split the cost between 10 people, it makes the cost a bit more manageable.

Personal VIP Tours get you a lot of perks. VIP Guests get expedited access to most attractions, so you don’t have to worry about spending most of your day in lines. You’ll also get reserved viewing for any parades, shows, and nighttime spectaculars (if they are included in your time frame). And before your visit, your VIP concierge will help you with any dining reservations you desire.

Be aware that separate theme park tickets and park reservations are required! Park admission or reservations are not included in the price of a VIP Tour.

To book a VIP Tour you can call (714) 300-7710 or email Disney Special Activities at [email protected] , or visit the Disneyland VIP Tour website for more information.

On the Day of Your Tour

  • All tours start inside Disneyland, so make sure you choose Disneyland as your starting park if you have a park hopper ticket and your tour starts prior to 1pm.
  • At the designated time, go to the Disneyland Tour Gardens which is on the west side of the park, between City Hall and the entrance. You will need to give the host/hostess your name and your tour confirmation number. The person who booked the tour may also need to show their photo ID. You’ll be given further instructions once you check in.
  • Your entire party needs to be present when checking in. Late arrivals may not be accommodated.

Disneyland Tour Additional Information

  • Most tours can be booked 30 days ahead of time. Same-day bookings may be available, but it’s best to book in advance if there’s a tour you really want to do during your visit!

  • Guests under the age of 14 must be accompanied by an adult for the duration of the tour.

VIP Tour At Disneyland Review!

Disneyland VIP Tour

Disneyland VIP Tour

The Benefits of Going VIP

If you’ve ever visited Disneyland, you know that the lines, the crowds, and the hustle can sometimes take some of the magic out of the experience. That’s where going VIP comes in. In this section, we’ll unravel the benefits of opting for a VIP tour at Disneyland.

Skip the Lines: No More Waiting!

One of the most enticing perks of a VIP tour is the power to bid farewell to those long, winding lines that seem to stretch to infinity and beyond! With a VIP pass in hand, you’ll be whisked away to the front of the line for most attractions—no more waiting in the scorching sun or the chilly night air. You’ll have more time for what matters most – experiencing the magic of Disneyland.

Imagine strolling past the “60-minute wait” sign with a confident stride, feeling like a Disney celebrity as you’re escorted directly onto the ride via the lightning lane or a side entrance. Whether it’s the adrenaline rush of Space Mountain or the nostalgia of the Pirates of the Caribbean, you’ll enjoy more rides and attractions in a fraction of the time.

Personalized Itinerary: Tailored to Your Wishes

Disneyland isn’t just a place; it’s an experience, and no two experiences are quite the same. With a VIP tour, your day is as unique as you are. Your expert VIP tour guide will work with you to craft a personalized itinerary based on your preferences.

Whether you’re a thrill-seeker, a foodie, a character enthusiast, or a little bit of everything, your tour will reflect your desires. Want to meet Mickey Mouse? No problem. Are you craving a Dole Whip float? They’ve got you covered. Dream of exploring the secrets of the Haunted Mansion? Your wish is their command. The VIP tour is your ticket to a Disneyland day tailor-made to create memories that matter to you.

Expert Guides: Disney Enthusiasts by Your Side

Navigating the sprawling wonderland of Disneyland can be overwhelming, even for seasoned visitors. That’s where your expert cast member guide comes in. Each VIP tour is led by a seasoned Disney enthusiast who knows the parks inside and out. They’re like your own Disney encyclopedia, providing insider knowledge and fascinating facts at every turn.

These guides aren’t just experts on the parks; they’re also skilled in ensuring your day runs smoothly. They’ll keep track of reservations, handle logistics, and offer valuable tips to maximize your experience. With a VIP guide by your side, you can relax and savor the magic, knowing that every detail is taken care of.

Exclusive Access: The Disneyland Few Get to See

Beyond skipping lines and personalized itineraries, a Disneyland VIP tour opens doors to exclusive areas of Disneyland that are off-limits to the general public. Imagine visiting the Disneyland Dream Suite, a lavish apartment nestled above Pirates of the Caribbean, or stepping backstage to see how the magic is made. These behind-the-scenes glimpses add an extra layer of enchantment to your VIP adventure, giving you a deeper appreciation for the artistry that brings Disneyland to life.

Preparing for Your Disneyland VIP Tour

special tours disneyland

Your VIP tour at Disneyland promises to be a day filled with enchantment and wonder. But before you embark on this magical adventure, there are some essential preparations to ensure you make the most of every moment. In this section, I’ll guide you through the steps to prepare for your VIP tour.

Booking Your Disneyland VIP Tour: What You Need to Know

The journey begins with booking your VIP tour. You’ll need to call Disneyland to book your tour. Here are a few key points to keep in mind:

  • Advance Reservations : VIP tours can be in high demand, especially during peak seasons. It’s advisable to book your tour well in advance to secure your preferred date.
  • Group Size : VIP tours accommodate up to 10 people. If you have a large group, you’ll need to book two tours, so you have two VIP guides on your private tour.
  • Tour Duration : VIP tours come in various durations; there is a 7-hour minimum, though. Prices for private tours are based on an hourly rate, so you can add more time if you like. Choose the length that suits your preferences and schedule.
  • Special Requests : If you have specific attractions or experiences you want to include in your tour, communicate these preferences when booking. The more your guide knows about your desires, the better they can tailor your itinerary.
  • Pricing : VIP tours are an additional expense beyond park admission. Pricing varies based on when you’re booking your Disneyland VIP Tour. Peak season(like holiday times) will cost more than the off-season. Prices range from $500- $900 per hour.

Packing Essentials: Must-Haves for a Day at Disneyland

Packing for your VIP tour requires a blend of practicality and readiness for a day of Disney magic:

  • Tickets and ID : Don’t forget your VIP tour confirmation, park tickets, and identification. Keep them in a secure, easily accessible place.
  • Comfortable Footwear : You’ll be doing a fair amount of walking, so wear comfortable, well-broken-in shoes. Consider cushioned insoles for extra comfort. Check out my  top shoes to wear at Disneyland !
  • Weather-Appropriate Attire : Check the weather forecast for the day and dress accordingly. Layers are often an excellent choice to adapt to temperature changes throughout the day.
  • Backpack or Bag : Bring a small backpack or bag to carry essentials like sunscreen, water bottles, snacks, and personal items.
  • Phone and Charger : Your phone will likely be your camera, communication tool, and entertainment all in one. Don’t forget a portable charger to keep it powered up.
  • Sun Protection : Sunscreen, sunglasses, and a wide-brimmed hat will help protect you from the California sun.
  • Rain Gear : If rain is in the forecast, a compact, lightweight poncho can be a lifesaver.
  • Autograph Book and Pen : An autograph book and pen are essential if you or your little ones are into character meet-and-greets.

Meeting Your Guide: A Friendly Face in a Magical Place

Your VIP guide will be your key to unlocking the Disneyland magic, so it’s essential to know how to connect:

  • Meeting Point : Your tour confirmation should include details about where and when to meet your guide. Typically, you’ll meet at a designated spot near the park entrance or at the Grand Californian Hotel. Just look for the cast members in plaid vests!
  • Ask Questions : Don’t hesitate to ask your guide any questions you have about the day’s plan, attractions, or anything else Disney-related. They’re there to make your day as enjoyable as possible.
  • Personal Preferences : When you meet your guide, reiterate any personal preferences or must-do experiences you discussed during the booking process. This helps them tailor the tour to your wishes.

A Day in the Disneyland VIP Tour Life

Now that you’ve prepared for your Disneyland VIP tour, it’s time to dive into what your day will look like. Get ready for a magical adventure unlike any other Disneyland visit.

Exploring the Parks: Rides, Attractions, and More

As the day unfolds, your VIP adventure takes you on a journey through the heart of Disneyland. Your guide will lead you to a curated selection of rides and attractions tailored to your preferences. Feel the exhilaration of soaring through the skies on Soarin’ Around the World, take a whimsical trip through the Hundred Acre Wood on the Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh, or embrace your inner pirate on Pirates of the Caribbean.

But your experience isn’t limited to just the attractions like “it’s a small world”. Your guide will ensure you don’t miss out on the smaller, often overlooked gems scattered throughout the parks. Hidden secrets, charming nooks, and photo opportunities galore await you.

Dining Like Royalty: Exclusive Culinary Experiences

As your VIP treatment continues, it’s time to refuel with a touch of Disney dining magic. VIP tours include dining reservations wherever you like! Just tell the cast member when you make your reservation, and your VIP concierge will make them for you.

Of course, your guide will also help you navigate the park’s various quick-service options, ensuring you savor the best snacks and treats Disneyland has to offer. From churros to Dole Whip floats, the options are as delicious as they are diverse.

 Behind-the-Scenes: Secrets and Stories

One of the highlights of a VIP tour is the opportunity to go behind the scenes and learn about the inner workings of Disneyland. Your guide may share captivating stories about the park’s history, point out hidden details, and even take you to exclusive backstage areas.

Ever wonder how animatronics work or how the park’s iconic parades come to life? Your guide is a treasure trove of knowledge, ready to reveal the secrets that make Disneyland the enchanting place it is.

Customized Surprises: Your Tour, Your Way

While your day follows a planned itinerary, there’s always room for surprises. VIP tour guides are known for their ability to add spontaneous moments of magic to your tour. Whether it’s arranging a special character meet-and-greet or securing a prime spot for a parade or fireworks show, your guide is dedicated to making your tour a special experience.

FAQs: Answering Your VIP Tour Questions

You may have questions about your upcoming Disneyland VIP tour. Here are answers to some frequently asked questions:

How far in advance should I book my VIP tour? : It’s advisable to book your VIP tour as early as possible, especially if you have specific dates in mind or a large group. Tours can book up quickly, especially during peak seasons.

Can I choose the attractions I want to visit on the VIP tour? : Yes! Your dedicated tour guide will work with you to create a personalized itinerary that includes your preferred attractions and experiences around Disneyland Park.

Is food included in the VIP tour cost? : While some VIP tours include bottled water, most do not include full meals. Be sure to check the details of your specific tour when booking.

What is the cancellation policy for VIP tours? : Cancellation policies can vary, so reviewing the cancellation terms is crucial when making your reservation. Typically, you must cancel within a specific timeframe to receive a refund.

Can I use my Disney rewards or discounts for VIP tours? : Disney rewards and discounts typically do not apply to VIP tours due to their exclusive nature. Be sure to check with Disney directly for any specific promotions or offers.

Do I need a park hopper ticket for my Disneyland VIP tour?:  That’s up to you, but I think to take full advantage of the VIP service, you’ll want to have a park hopper ticket on your Disneyland VIP tour to give you access to all the attractions at both Disneyland and Disney California Adventure.

Is a Disneyland private VIP tour worth the money?:  The answer to this question depends on you. There’s no doubt that a Disney private VIP tour is the most efficient way to spend your Disneyland day. For many people, the cost of private guides and short lines you can access with a Disneyland VIP Tour is well worth the money. Other guests might disagree.

Your VIP tour at Disneyland is not just a day at the park; it’s an immersive, enchanting adventure filled with magic and wonder. Take a moment to reflect on the incredible memories you’ll create, the attractions you’ll conquer, the delectable Disney cuisine you’ll savor, and the insider stories you’ll uncover.

These VIP tours offer a level of priority access and personalization that few other theme parks can match. They turn a day at Disneyland into an unforgettable, tailor-made journey that caters to your interests, creating cherished moments you’ll carry with you for a lifetime.

Why Every Disney Fan Should Consider VIP Tours

If you’re a Disney fan, you might wonder if a VIP tour is worth the investment. Here are a few compelling reasons why it’s a must-do for enthusiasts:

  • Maximized Magic : VIP tours allow you to make the most of your day at Disneyland by skipping lines, accessing exclusive experiences, and receiving insider insights from your guide. It’s the perfect way to spend a day at Disneyland!
  • Personalization : Your VIP tour is crafted to match your preferences, ensuring you get to enjoy your favorite rides, meet beloved characters, and explore hidden gems. Want to ride Rise of the Resistance 10 times in a row? You can do it!
  • Exclusive Access : VIP tours grant you access to behind-the-scenes areas and experiences that regular park guests rarely see, adding an extra layer of enchantment to your visit.
  • Time and Convenience : With a VIP guide handling logistics, you can relax and enjoy the magic without worrying about reservations, schedules, or navigating the park.
  • Creating Memories : Disneyland VIP tours create many magical moments you’ll cherish forever, from front-row seats for parades to personalized surprises. It’s a wonderful way to spend a family vacation!

As you embark on your Disneyland VIP adventure, remember that the magic is not just in the attractions and experiences but in the joy and wonder you bring to it. Whether this is your first time at Disneyland or you’re a seasoned Disney fan, these tours unlock a world of enchantment that will leave you with a heart full of Disney magic and memories that will last a lifetime. Enjoy your journey, and may it be filled with pixie dust and dreams come true!

Having opened in 1955, Disneyland has expanded and continued to create magic for young and old over it’s 60+ years as the Happiest Place on Earth.

The Disneyland Resort, as a whole (Disneyland, Disney California Adventure, Downtown Disney, The Disneyland Hotel, The Grand Californian Hotel and the Paradise Pier Hotel – soon to be the Pixar Pier Hotel) contains a variety of unique experiences guests can only find at this California wonderland.

Here are some of the best things to do when you visit the resorts, unique to Disneyland.

  • 12 Best Rides at California Adventure
  • 12 Best Rides and Attractions at Disney California Adventure

1. Handmade Candy Canes

Making candy canes at Disneyland

At Christmas, these highly coveted confections are proudly purchased by guests in the know.

Limited in number each day, guests line up during the month of December to purchase this special peppermint treat, only offered at Disneyland parks.

The candy canes are hand-pulled and formed into giant hooks, sold alternately at The Candy Palace on Main Street at Disneyland and at Trolley Treats at Disney California Adventure.

Information on when and where these holiday treats will be available are usually made in early to mid-November.

Only one candy cane may be purchased, per guest, each day.  Plan ahead and taste the magic of these special holiday treats!

2. Trader Sam’s Enchanted Tiki Bar and Tangaroa Terrace

Trader Sam's Menu and Mug

Based on a character from the original Jungle Cruise in Disneyland, enjoying a drink and a “Poo Poo Platter” at Trader Sam’s is a true Disneyland experience.

The inside bar area is a treat for the senses.

Tiki kitsch covers the walls as guests find hints to various stories from Adventureland and the Jungle Cruise.

Order a Uh-Oa sharable cocktail and the bar turns into a furry of entertaining cheers, cracks of thunder, flashes of “lightening”, and a spritz of water from behind the bar.

The bartenders serve up various concoctions in special tiki mugs and glasses which guests get to take home (although less expensive options for the drink alone can be purchased).

You may also ask for a non-alcoholic drink, if you prefer, and still buy the souvenir Tiki mug (at full price).

Young explorers (anyone under 21) may experience the inside of the bar until 8 pm, at which point the bar becomes a hot spot for adults 21 and over.

However!

Everyone is welcome on the outdoor terrace where live music is played almost every evening.

Reservations are highly recommended for this exciting dining location, however, a standby list is available at the entrance and online.

If you don’t get into Trader Sam’s, never fear!

Walk around the side of the building to the entrance of Tangaroa Terrace and seat yourselves.

Tangaroa Terrace

You can purchase the same Tiki drinks and food at the walk-up bar and they will give you a number for your table.

BONUS!

Tangaroa Terrace is open for breakfast, as well!

Several Polynesian inspired dishes are available such as the Loco Moco breakfast burrito and the incredibly delicious Tangaroa Toast – a thick slice of cinnamon toast, stuffed with custard and topped with guava puree and coconut whipped cream (with a side of bacon!)

You’re welcome, in advance!

3. Snacks from the Cozy Cones at DCA

Cozy Cone treat

Carsland is one of the highlights of Disney California Adventure and the Cozy Cones are must-eat experience!

Sally’s motel from the movie, “Cars” has been turned into several choices for snacks at various Cozy Cones.

Most of the snacks come in cone-form and Cast Members (Disney employees) encourage you to enjoy the “Cone-diments” located to the side of these giant orange road-warnings.

A few of the snacks include Chili Cone Queso, Bacon Mac-n-cheese (both served in a spiral bread cone), chimichangas and a wide selection of frozen treats and drinks such as a Route Beer Float.

Grab a treat and watch as the lone stop light really is slower on every third blink!

Also, can you find the hidden Mickey on the power line near Stanley’s fountain?

4. Neon at Carsland

Neon lights at the Flo's V8 Cafe

Another fun experience at Carsland is to arrive at dusk, just as the town lights up in neon.

Catch a Cast Member in the area, earlier in the day, to ask what time you should return for that evening’s lighting.

Just as in the movie, “Cars”, the Neon is turned on, one location at a time, as the song “Life Would be a Dream” is piped in over the speakers and guests saunter down the main drag, just as Lightening McQueen discovered the wonders of this little stop on the old Route 66.

Cozy Cone at night

The neon lights make for wonderful photo opportunities and Photopass Photographers are always available to make sure your family can save this visual memory of your vacation for years to come.

5. Table-side Guacamole

Tortilla Jo's Mexican restaurant

While in California, you might as well try one of the best produce the state has to offer – the avocado!

And what better way to taste this creamy, rich, delicacy, than in GUACAMOLE!

Tortilla Jo’s Mexican restaurant in the Downtown Disney District, makes this special version of guacamole right at your table, adjusting the recipe to your specifications.

More tomatoes?

Maybe none at all!

Want it spicey or mild?

Onions?  More or less cilantro?

You have a say in how your green masterpiece is created.

Then dip a warm chip into your creamy guacamole and ENJOY!

6. The Disneyland Hotel Lobbies

Big Thunder model

Hotel lobbies can be grand and beautiful, but very few contain actual museums of Disneyland history!

The lobbies of the Disneyland Hotel and its Convention Center, hold many treasures that Disney fans will find fascinating.

Start in the main lobby of the Fantasy Tower.

Of course, you can sit in a tea-cup chair and play on the video table games while waiting for your room information, but there is so much more.

All around the lobby are pieces of art by famous Disney artists such as Mary Blair and Herb Ryman.

There’s also a giant, light-up map of the original version of Disneyland.

Near the entrance to the Convention Center is a wall of Disneyland souvenirs throughout the history of the park and a photo history of the Disneyland Hotel.

Next, enter the main entrance to the Convention Center near Goofy’s Kitchen.

You’ll find a replica of the original Autopia Cars that you can sit in for a photo.

Climb the stairs to view more art from the talented artists of the Disney Studios.

In the Frontier Tower, you’ll find a model of Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, complete with a tiny dynamite-toting goat!

7. Corn Dogs from the Little Red Wagon

Little Red Wagon sign

It’s not your average corn dog.

Really.

This is the BEST corn dog you’ll ever eat.

Even guests who don’t enjoy corn dogs will devour one of these “puppies” in a heartbeat.

There’s just something different about these specific corn dogs from the Little Red Wagon, located at the end of Main Street in Disneyland that keep people coming back for more.

The corn dogs located at other locations throughout the parks are good, but there really is something different about this location.

The meal gets you a corn dog, a bag of chips and a soda for what is considered one of Disneyland’s best deals for a meal.

The tasty, quality, hotdog is dipped in a delicious coating of cornbread batter and deep friend to crispy perfection.

Dipped in ketchup or mustard, this delightful food-on-a-stick is sure to please even the most skeptical of foodies.

8. The Blue Bayou and other New Orleans Square delights

Blue Bayou restaurant

The Blue Bayou restaurant at the Pirates of the Caribbean ride is a Disneyland classic!

Talk about ambiance!

This dining location has it in spades!

The Blue Bayou is designed to immerse guests into a fantasy New Orleans dining scene, ripe with Southern charm.

Wrought-iron fences divide the diners from the river that sweeps ride-goers into the Pirates of the Caribbean.

Lightening bugs blink, frogs croak and crickets chirp as the wait staff wind their way around the tables, serving up gumbo, jambalaya, steaks, fish and the famous Monte Cristo Sandwich – a battered and fried turkey, ham and Swiss cheese sandwich with a side of strawberry jam to dip.

Reservations for the Blue Bayou are HIGHLY recommended.

Try to dine at off-peak times for a better chance of getting into this popular location.

But never fear!

If you’d still like to try the famous Monte Cristo without dining in the Blue Bayou, you can also purchase the sandwich at Café Orleans with a side of pommes frites (French fries).

Classic Monte Cristo

Another special treat are the Mickey-shaped beignets at the Mint Julep Bar, located near the New Orleans Square train station.

Buy a bag of these freshly made, warm, powdered sugar covered treats and enjoy a non-alcoholic Mint Julep on the side for a true New Orleans Square experience!

9. Lobster Nachos

Lamplight Lounge entrance

The Lamplight Lounge at Disney California Adventure offers many different culinary delights, but one of the most popular is the Lobster Nachos.

This snack-as-a-meal, first appeared at the Cove Bar, which was located above the restaurant when it was a character dining location.

These nachos are HUGE and definitely can be shared with several people.

A layered pile of tortilla chips and cheese are topped with chunks and flakes of tasty lobster, black beans, pico de gallo and a crema sauce.

The Pixar-themed Lamplight Lounge also serves an array of cocktails.

The restaurant is full of Pixar concept art and movie moments.

10. Walk in Walt’s Footsteps Tour

Walk in Walt's Steps Tour reserved lunch

Although Walt Disney imagined great things for his theme park in Florida, he never actually had the chance to walk in the completed park.

This is not the case at Disneyland!

Disneyland was Walt’s original dream and he not only walked within the theme park, he often spent the night in his special apartment located over the Main Street Fire Station and would roam around amongst the guests, signing autographs and meeting the families for whom he created The Happiest Place on Earth.

Walt’s magical touch can be seen throughout Disneyland and his spirit remains in the place he loved so dearly.

The Walk in Walt’s Footsteps Tour highlights all the areas and attractions Walt loved the most within Disneyland.

Guests get to see behind the scenes and in areas, not open to the general public.

They also receive lunch or dinner at the Jolly Holiday Bakery and a commemorative pin to remember the experience.

Reservations are required.

The cost of the tour is in addition to park admission.

Even if you are unable to go on the tour, make sure to honor Mr. Disney by noticing the lantern that is kept lit in the widow of his apartment.

Thank you, Uncle Walt!

11. Notice the details

Hidden Mickey design

Disneyland is full of interesting history and more details than you can see in one visit.

Hidden Mickeys are, of course, a very popular detail in all Disney parks and hotels.

They can be found from various spots in the pavement, to a swirl on the side of a snack cart.  Hidden Mickeys are EVERYWHERE!

Each Disney Parks Legend is given a commemorative window on Main Street.

Look up to find names of famous Imagineers, animators and park executives.

Unique to Disneyland is the window of Ron Dominguez, who’s family once owned the property on which Disneyland was built!

At the New Orleans Square Railroad Station, you can hear Morse Code ticking away from the telegraph office.

Telegraph Cable Office sign

This is actually the speech Walt Disney gave at the opening of Disneyland in 1955!

12. The Lilly Belle

Lilly Belle ticket

Another special tour at Disneyland involves Walt’s love of trains!

Train enthusiasts can enjoy the Grand Circle Tour, which covers the history of Walt Disney’s love of trains, models and his dream of building a train that would circle Disneyland.

Originally build in 1928, the Lilly Belle, a special train car named after Walt’s wife, Lillian, was created to transport VIP’s around the park and to the exclusive Club 33, located in New Orleans Square.

Lilly Belle train car

Now, guests of the Grand Circle Tour may board this special car as they make their way around Disneyland by rail.

The tour includes the opportunity to purchase souvenirs specific to the tour.

Separate admission to the park is not included, but is required to attend the tour.

13. Explore Sleeping Beauty’s Castle

Sleeping Beauty Castle

The original Disneyland Castle may not be as grand as its counterparts across the world, but it houses a fun walk-through experience.

Enter on the back side of the castle (actually, the FRONT!  Did you know that?) and climb up the winding staircase to tour the story of Sleeping Beauty set in beautifully created dioramas.

Storybook inside Sleeping Beauty's castle

The exhibit takes you back down the other side of the main arch and exits back out, across from where you entered.

It’s a quick attraction, with hardly ever any line.

A lovely way to cool off from the warm California sun.

14. Jingles!

Jingles

The King Arthur Carousel in Fantasyland is a fun ride for all ages – a theme park staple and part of Walt Disney’s inspiration for a family amusement park.

But there is one special horse that many people don’t notice when riding this classic attraction.

Each of the white horses on the carousel have a name (a list is available at City Hall on Main Street).

The lead horse, and Walt’s favorite, is named Jingles.

In 2008, after a refurbishment of the ride, special details were added to Jingles, highlighting the movie “Mary Poppins” and the horse was dedicated to actress Julie Andrews in a special ceremony during Disneyland’s 50 th Anniversary.

Jingles is now a highly coveted horse on the carousel and guests feel special as they reenact Mary’s Jolly Holiday while riding aboard this special, bell-clad, horse.

15. The Little Man of Disneyland

Patrick Begorras House

This special “secret” spot was one created after a story written and illustrated in 1955 for the Little Golden Books, so popular in American literature.

“The Little Man of Disneyland” is about a leprechaun named Patrick Begorra, who is uprooted from his home as Disneyland is being built.

In the story, Mickey and his friends eventually find a special home for Patrick in a tree located in Adventureland.

The park officials decided to incorporate Patrick’s home into an actual tree and guests can search for his little door with a porch roof and stove pipe, near the entrance to Indiana Jones Adventure.

The book is still being published at can be purchased through several booksellers.

16. Jungle Cruise Maps

Jungle Cruise entrance

The Jungle Cruise, one of Disneyland’s original attractions, has taken on many versions over the years, but the general route has remained the same.

And yet, do you know your way around the jungle?

When exiting the ride, ask a Cast Member at the nearby stand, for a map of the Jungle Cruise.

If you are lucky, a special sepia-toned, keepsake map will be presented to you, discreetly.

The free souvenir makes a lovely memory of your visit and looks great framed!

BONUS:  Guest can also ask for a Death Certificate from a Cast Member when exiting the Haunted Mansion, but these aren’t as readily available.

17. The Citizens of Buena Vista Street

A citizen of Buena Vista Street

Buena Vista Street is located as you enter Disney California Adventure and acts as DCA’s “Main Street USA”.

Unique to this street are all the citizens that make Buena Vista Street a thriving community.

Phiphi the Photographer (aka Phiphi Farouk Francis) is a rather flamboyant world traveler, often found shadowing Photopass photographers and guest as they take pictures, and marveling at their modern equipment.

Donna the Dog Lady (aka Donna Linn De Larria) is the self-appointed, unofficial Mayor of Buena Vista Street.

She can be found wandering around with her dog, Lady, in her special blue dress and grand “chapeau” (hat).

She is full of quick-witted jokes and gossip about everything pertaining to that particular part of DCA.

You are welcome to pet Lady with permission.

Officers Clyde and Calvin Blue are brothers in charge of making sure peace is kept on Buena Vista Street.

They are known for writing out tickets to guests for “best smile” and “excessive laughter”.

If you’re lucky enough to be stopped by one of these officers, you may just receive a ticket!

The Officers Blue have their eyes set on the town bike messengers, Millie and Molly.

Make sure to ask them about their crushes.

If you run into Millie or Molly yourself, be sure to ask if they have any messages.

They just might have a telegram in their pocket for you!

Special Events at Disneyland 2024: Complete Guide for Every Season

By: Author Leslie Harvey

Posted on Published: December 4, 2023

Share this!:

While a Disneyland vacation is special any time, the resort is known for multiple special events, festivals, and holiday celebrations that happen at different times every year. These celebrations often feature unique decorations, special foods, and one-time only entertainment. Naturally, many Disneyland guests want to time their vacation for when one of these special offerings are happening.

Disneyland Castle with Balloons

I’ve been to Disneyland in every season many times and can compare and contrast all of these choices. If you are trying to pick just the right time to visit Disneyland, here is an overview of all the events, food festivals, and holiday celebrations that happen each year to plan for your next trip.

Usually, Disneyland doesn’t announce the exact dates for special events and holiday festivals until maybe 3-6 months before they start. This makes things a bit challenging for guests who want to plan much farther in advance. Luckily, for the first time, Disneyland just released the full 2024 event schedule on December 4, 2023! This will make it much easier for those of you who prefer long-term planning.

Disneyland 2024 Calendar

If it’s been a few years since you’ve been to the Disneyland Resort, remember that not everything at Disneyland is entirely as it was in previous years. Be sure to check out these posts for even more of the most current Disneyland vacation planning details:

Disneyland Special Events Happening Every Season of the Year

Here are all the special events and celebrations that happen each year at the Disneyland Resort, as well as all the offerings that have been announced for 2024.

Lunar New Year at Disneyland (January & February)

Disneyland Lunar New Year Decor in Disney California Adventure

Dates in 2024 : January 23-February 18, 2024.

The first special event of each new year at Disneyland is Lunar New Year. The event is held at Disney California Adventure park and includes lots of special entertainment as well as multiple food marketplaces featuring a wide variety of Asian dishes. My guide to Disneyland’s Lunar New Year has all the details.

This celebration is smaller in scope but has really grown from even a few years ago. The holiday used to be commemorated only on a single weekend with just a couple of special offerings that mostly catered to locals. It’s now a full-fledged festival running for several weeks worthy of planning a vacation around.

The Lunar New Year event usually runs for about 3 weeks in late January and early February. Traditionally, Disneyland usually only announces dates for the festival a few months in advance in either late fall or early winter. (For example, the dates for the 2020 event which was held January 17 through February 9, 2020 were announced on October 29, 2019. The dates for the 2023 event from January 20 through February 15, 2023 were announced on November 21, 2022.)

Since the date of Lunar New Year is variable and the festival is shorter than many other Disneyland festivals, predicting the timing of this event is a bit harder than with most other Disneyland events. The date of actual Lunar New Year can fall anywhere between the third week of January and mid-February.

This means Disneyland adjusts the dates of the festival a bit each year. Sometimes the event falls over the Presidents Day weekend holiday (as it did in 2019 and will again in 2024), but it often does not run that long when Lunar New Year falls in January. So consult the lunar calendar carefully while planning and aim for the 2 weeks or so prior to the actual holiday.

Bonus in February: Valentine’s Day!

Although Valentine’s Day isn’t a major celebration, the holiday isn’t overlooked at the Disneyland Resort either. Blink and you’ll miss it most years. But if you happen to be able to go to the parks in the couple of days leading up to February 14, you’ll see some decorations, special food, and photos opps. (The Happiest Blog on Earth keeps an updated guide to Valentine’s Day at Disneyland to bookmark.)

Food & Wine Festival & Spring Break at Disneyland (March & April)

Disney California Adventure Food and Wine Festival 2020

Dates in 2024 : March 1-April 22, 2024.

Disneyland’s largest annual festival, the Disney California Adventure Food & Wine Festival, happens every spring. Spring at Disneyland is one of my favorite times to visit, and I’ve been lucky enough to attend the festival regularly for many years to really see it evolve.

The festival usually starts right around the beginning of March and runs about 6-7 weeks well into April. It’s timed to encompass almost all the spring breaks for school districts in California and neighboring states, and always includes Easter weekend as well.

The festival features around a dozen food kiosks set up along the walkways of Disney California Adventure park. Home-grown California ingredients like garlic and berries take center stage in every dish. It’s a huge highlight for foodies but definitely has enough to offer families with kids as well. See my complete guide to the Disney California Adventure Food & Wine Festival for all the specifics.

Bonus in March/April: Easter!

Easter Disneyland Eggstravaganza

Easter isn’t overlooked in the spring at Disneyland either, but you have to more closely to find the offerings. The major thing to do is Easter Egg-stravaganza where guests can purchase a map and go hunt for eggs displayed in hidden spots through the parks and in Downtown Disney. There are a few unique Easter foods as well as dining experiences on Easter Sunday itself at some restaurants. My friends Tom and Sarah over at Disney Tourist Blog keep an updated guide to Easter at Disneyland with all the specifics.

Spring & Summer Festivals at Disneyland (April, May, June, July, & August)

Summer of Heroes Disneyland DCA

There is no recurring festival during the summer at Disneyland, but Disneyland usually does something special each and every summer to bring something new to the parks.

On years when Disney is celebrating a major milestone birthday, the celebration usually is themed around that anniversary. Disneyland’s 60th anniversary celebration actually lasted from the beginning of summer 2015 until the end of summer 2016. You may just get two summers out of one anniversary! In fact, I’d mark your calendars now for Summer 2025 and 2026 for a big 70th celebration….

Summer is also traditionally when new attractions and lands launch. Often, Disney gives the summer a theme that is in keeping with the new opening. For example, Disney named 2017 the Summer of Heroes and launched a celebration for all things Marvel after Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! opened earlier that spring.

The bottom line is that if you go in summer, there will be something fun to celebrate, even if you don’t always know the exact theme.

In 2024, there is no anniversary and no new attractions or lands debuting. But there will be a celebration! Two, in fact. These two offerings will span the spring and summer seasons and include:

Season of the Force

Hyperspace Mountain during Disneyland Season of the Force

Dates in 2024 : April 5-June 2, 2024.

Disneyland first held a Season of the Force celebration way back in 2015 and 2016 to promote the movie Star Wars: The Force Awakens . It’s coming back again, nearly a decade later.

Offerings will include the Star Wars themed ride overlay Hyperspace Mountain as well as new adventures on the Star Tours attraction in Tomorrowland. Evening fireworks over Disneyland park (including now above the spires of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge ) will be set to themed Star Wars music. Of course, the event is timed to include Star Wars Day – May the 4th – as well.

Pixar Fest at Disneyland - Disneyland Entrance Sign

Dates in 2024 : April 26-August 4, 2024.

You may remember Pixar Fest from the summer of 2018. The celebration coincided with the first part of the new Pixar Pier expansion with the opening of the Incredicoaster. Disney is bringing back this Pixar-themed celebration in 2024 with lots of changes and additions to reflect new Pixar characters.

The event launches just after the Food & Wine Festival closes and lasts nearly all summer long. It will take place in both parks as well as Downtown Disney. Look for a brand new parade in DCA, “Better Together: A Pixar Pals Celebration!” and the return of “Together Forever – A Pixar Nighttime Spectacular” in Disneyland with new scenes.

Disney has announced that new Pixar characters from movies made the last few years (such as Ember and Wade from “Elemental” and Red Panda Mei from “Turning Red”) will join the special event as well.

Bonus on July 17: Disneyland’s Birthday!

Even if you aren’t visiting Disneyland on a major anniversary year, there is always something special done every July 17 to commemorate Disneyland’s opening day.

Halloween Time (September & October)

New at Disneyland Fall Winter 2018 - Disneyland Halloween Time

Dates in 2024 : August 23-October 31, 2024.

The fall brings one of the most beloved holiday celebrations to Disneyland. In September and October, both parks celebrate Halloween Time . The pumpkin and villains decor is over-the-top all over the resort, making it one of my favorite times to head to Anaheim.

When do the Halloween decorations go up? The official launch used to be right around Labor Day weekend – either before or right after depending on how early the holiday itself fell. (In 2019, Labor Day fell on September 2 and Halloween Time officially launched on September 6, 2019. With Labor Day falling a bit later in 2022 on September 5, the festivities actually started in time for the holiday weekend.)

In 2024, however, Halloween Time is starting earlier than it ever has. Like its Florida counterpart has done for many years, you can now celebrate Halloween in Disneyland starting in August – yikes! While Halloween Time officially ends on the October 31 holiday, there are two additional days in early November when the Dia de los Muertos offerings continue (most notably in DCA at Plaza de la Familia).

You are usually able to count on the seasonal ride overlay Haunted Mansion Holiday to be ready to go on the official Halloween Time opening day.

Disneyland also has a special Halloween party during the fall multiple nights a week. Called Oogie Boogie Bash and held in Disney California Adventure park, the parties historically haven’t started until a bit later into the fall season after the decor appears.

Oogie Boogie Bash Disneyland - Oogie Boogie Close Up

However, the early start to Halloween Time in 2024 may bring changes to the Oogie Boogie Bash schedule as well. Given how popular the party has been the last few years with all tickets selling out in under 24 hours, it would not surprise me if there will be more parties starting earlier than ever in 2024. Whether it will rival Walt Disney World (which starts its own Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party in August every year) is TBD. Be sure to watch for dates when tickets will be released (usually in early summer) because they will go fast.

Holidays at the Disneyland Resort (November, December, & early January)

Disneyland Holidays - Viva Navidad

Dates in 2024 : November 15, 2024 – early January TBD 2025.

Last but certainly not least is the winter holiday celebrations at Disneyland. The holiday decorations and treats have usually been up by the Veterans Day holiday in early November the last few years, but 2024 is bringing another change. The season will not start until several days later (perhaps to better distribute crowds around that busy holiday weekend?) and will stretch into early January. The celebration usually ends right around the time most kids return to school.

The offerings are too many to list, from ride overlays like it’s a small world Holiday to Mater’s Jingle Jamboree to special holiday parades and evening fireworks. The holiday season also features a food festival of its own in Disney California Adventure. See all the details in my guide to the holidays at Disneyland .

One thing to watch out for: the holidays definitely do bring out crowds. The two busiest times to visit the Disneyland Resort are Thanksgiving week and the week between Christmas and New Year’s. If you can go other times in the season, you can experience more of the magic without the crowds. I particularly love going during the early December lull.

Do you have a favorite season to visit Disneyland? What event are you planning to attend on your next trip?

Replica of Disneyland’s Haunted Mansion attraction hits the market

Enter if you dare, foolish mortals.

Disney fans who have fantasized about living inside Disneyland’s Haunted Mansion attraction could turn their dreams into reality if they have $2.2 million.

A property inspired by the famed attraction recently hit the market in Georgia.

Listing agent Gail Laney told news publication Barron’s that the previous owner said his property has similar dimensions to the Disneyland attraction and that iron details found throughout the property were forged in a foundry specifically for Disney.

“He grew up a Disney nut because his dad was an animator for Walt Disney. He got permission to get access to the original plans of the Haunted Mansion in Disneyland,” Laney told the publication.

However, unlike the Disneyland attraction, the Georgia-based home is free of doom buggies and ghostly residents.

Spanning almost 9,500 feet, the “one of a kind” home is an “open living area,” according to the listing.

The home includes six bedrooms and six bathrooms, a two-tier basement that includes a full bar and a chef’s kitchen with a complete butler’s pantry and grilling deck.

The owner’s bedroom has a private upper porch, morning kitchen, luxurious bath, and two oversized walk-in closets. Other rooms in the house also have “generous proportions, ample closet space, and well-organized storage areas throughout,” the listing stated.

Residents also have an unfurnished apartment on top of a three-car garage on the property and have access to the community’s clubhouse, playground, pool, tennis courts, and pickleball court.

“This unique property not only offers a distinctive living experience but also the opportunity to be part of a special community,” the listing said.

More information about the home can be found here.
