Love And Death: “Our new music feels like a step up – it’s been a six- or seven-year process of collecting riffs”

Brian 'Head' Welch and JR Bareis talk pedals, dreadlocks, Love And Death's forthcoming album Perfectly Preserved, and the future of Korn post-pandemic

[L-R] Brian 'Head' Welch and JR Bareis of Love and Death

“We’re excited and pumped up… just trying to make the best of this crazy little era we’re living in,” says Love And Death frontman Brian ‘Head’ Welch – also of Korn – when Guitar World congratulates him and co-guitarist JR Bareis on their latest release.

The pair are currently promoting second album Perfectly Preserved which, come to think of it, would also be a fitting description for the long dreadlocks sported by both musicians…

“I don’t know if mine are perfectly preserved,” laughs Welch. “I just wash them once a week and cut them every four months. They are different lengths, some are long and some are short. J.R.’s are huge . He’s like the frickin’ Gandalf of dreads.”

“I have a friend who fixes them up for me once in a while,” adds Bareis. “They can get a little crazy with all the loose hair. I don’t think there is a secret though, you just have to go for it.

“Once it all starts locking, it just goes from there and stays like that. There’s not too much work involved, which is nice. I never know when to cut them! I don’t want to lose the length [laughs].”

“As soon as you find feces on them after going to the bathroom, it’s time to cut,” deadpans Welch. “I’m just joking. That never happens. It’s an old wives tale…”

The pair had first become acquainted in 2011 when Welch had left Korn and was looking to relaunch his musical career.

He needed another guitarist for the project and thanks to a mutual contact on Facebook along with some impressive content on YouTube, Bareis was contacted about them working together. There was only one slight problem, they didn’t know he was just 15 years old at the time…

“Well, he was my only option,” laughs Welch. “I didn’t have many other choices, either cancel a tour or have this teenage kid play with us. I actually thought he was in his early 20s when I saw his videos online. He sounded tight and like he was enjoying what he does. Then we called him and found out he was 15. That was a shocker .

“The next shock was his parents saying, ‘Sure, take him on the road!’ They had found out about my story and how I’d cleaned up my life, so I think they trusted me to be a positive influence.

“Our tour manager was like the tour father that would take care of all of us. He signed a piece of paper that made him a legal guardian of JR, which I signed too, so we were both responsible for him when he was with us. That was a trip… it was meant to be! We’ve been working together ever since.”

It must have been pretty mind-blowing for you, JR – especially being in your mid-teens at the time?

JR: “I had that YouTube channel and would do guitar covers for fun. I had a friend on Facebook that was also friends with Brian’s tour manager at the time, back when he was looking for a guitarist in his solo project.

It’s crazy, but that’s how it happened, through social media. It’s also crazy because I didn’t listen to Korn growing up… JR Bareis

“They saw the video and hit me up, so we got connected and talked. It’s crazy, but that’s how it happened, through social media. It’s also crazy because I didn’t listen to Korn growing up…”

Brian: “Hey, what do you mean?! You better lie to them and tell you were a big fan… just joking [laughs]!”

JR: “I guess people think that I was, but I grew up in a Christian home so I didn’t listen to secular music that much. So really the first time I heard Korn was when I started talking to Brian and had to learn parts for this Korn medley thing we would do! Now I love their music.”

What felt different about the creative process for this new album?

Brian: “For this record, I wanted JR to step up and do more singing and writing. So me and him would be texting back and forth with lyrics and melodies, just going for it.

“We also got together with Jasen Rauch, who is a producer and also in Breaking Benjamin. He produced the first Love And Death record and EP, we started working together in 2011. This new music feels like a step up, the songs are written better with bigger hooks and the whole mix of everything is an improvement.”

JR: “We started writing back in 2014, so it’s been a six or seven year process of collecting riffs. There’s so much we didn’t end up using. Then we wrote a lot of stuff last year too, right before we started tracking.

“I would stay with Jasen a couple of times through the years, we would hammer things out and work on stuff. Then around July last year, all the songs felt cohesive and ready for tracking.

“A lot of it was done on FaceTime, so I’d fly out to track the guitars and would call Brian and Jasen to see what they thought. It was all over the phone or email. We didn’t sit in the same room.”

JR Bareis

So it was more collaborative than the first Love And Death record?

Brian: “At other points, I wrote stuff with Jasen and Keith Wallen, who also plays in Breaking Benjamin doing guitars and some vocal stuff.

“Jasen was actually living with me, he’d gone through a break up, so Keith would come over for a weekend or even a week and we came up with about three songs that way. Like JR said, there was so much we threw away… and I have to say, most of that was stuff I wrote!

“In music, you have to have humility. When you work with people you have to stay humble. There was a song called Carousel that I loved, my daughter wrote a little part of it.

“We got Joe Rickard involved – who played in Red and In Flames and now produces – and he came in saying we would have to get rid of it. He felt it didn’t stand up to the rest and I trusted him. Keith Wallen came in and wrote some more with Joe, and Jasen threw his portion on there and then I added my flavor before JR added his…

“You have to stay grounded writing music like this. Collaborating is the best! Other people hear things and come up with ideas that I don’t myself. The same goes for Korn, with Fieldy coming up with amazing rhythmic ideas and riffs and Munky coming up with all that unique Korn-sounding stuff.

I love playing guitar in Korn, that’s my number one and where I feel most at home, obviously, but this is just another form of art. Singing and rocking out like that is fun… and it works Brian 'Head' Welch

“I was really good at the choruses where Jonathan [Davis, singer] can soar, songs like Falling Away From Me . I also wrote that higher guitar hook, that’s what I was good at. But the other guys in Korn were able to make it even better and the same thing goes for Love And Death.”

It was interesting to see you fronting a band with no guitar at all in the video for [lead single] Down . Did that feel different for you?

Brian: “Great question… it was way different and nerve-wracking. I’ve always loved vocals and enjoy working with amazing singers. I wanted to try it myself but never could. When I left Korn, I really gave it my all and had a lot of fun. I prefer screaming to singing.

“We actually tried to film with me singing and playing guitar for that video but I’m not talented like JR who can do both at the same time. I put the guitar down and grabbed the mic! It’s definitely a different vibe.

“I love playing guitar in Korn, that’s my number one and where I feel most at home, obviously, but this is just another form of art. Singing and rocking out like that is fun… and it works. I thought it looked really good on the video.

“It was easy to get back into because we’d toured so much back in the day. It took a little while but I was feeling comfortable again. There’s our livestream show coming soon that I’m really looking forward to...”

The second single, White Flag , has a really interesting descending part against the chug in the main riff. Who came up with that?

JR: “I actually wrote that part back when I played in my old band Islander. We never used it because it sounded like Love And Death [laughs]. I’m stoked we got to use it, because it’s just fun, bouncy and chaotic-sounding.”

Brian: “Joe wanted to throw that song away! Me, Jasen and JR worked on the chorus about five or six years ago and when Joe wanted to lose it, I had to fight for that song. I was actually singing over JR’s riff but it didn’t work.

“So when we changed the vocals to screaming and suddenly everyone was like, ‘Yes, this is it!’ Right at the bottom of the ninth, I saved the song… because it was going to get canned.”

What are your tips to getting a good tone when using lower tunings with high gain?

Brian: “I have to give props where they are due, James ‘Munky’ Shaffer was the Steve Vai fan in Korn. He’s the one who went to Guitar Center and put down 50 bucks for the first seven-string back in 1990 or 1991. I had no idea what a seven-string was!

“So it was Munky who really grabbed hold of that. When I joined Korn and we put the band together, I got one too and Fieldy got a five-string bass. Steve Vai invented the guitar, but we invented this lower metal tuning.

We’re not trying to rip off anything – that’s just Brian's sound. But we took it and made it something different. These songs aren’t just Korn songs. They have their own sound JR Bareis

“It was lower than Helmet, lower than Biohazard. And that became our thing. So many bands play in the lower spectrum now… the same goes for Love And Death, which is an extension of what I’ve been involved with and ultimately what I love. I’m all about the crushing riffs!”

So what kind of amps did you use to make them sound even bigger?

JR: “For this record we used a bunch of different ones. There was a Bogner, a Mesa/Boogie and a 5150, those were the three main heads. We also experimented with the Kemper profiler too, especially for overdubs and fun lead guitars. It was also used for a lot of Brian’s signature sounds, those weird vibe guitar noises.

“We’re not trying to rip off anything – that’s just his sound. But we took it and made it something different. These songs aren’t just Korn songs. They have their own sound.

“A lot of people try to compare the bands, but if it ever sounds similar, you’ve got one of the guys from the band… that’s just his style! But there are other people involved here that make this its own thing.”

Brian: “I told the guys this music had to have its own vibe. They are all massive talents, from JR to Jasen to Keith and Joe. I wanted all of our talents to shine through.

“Sure, you hear a bit of those weird ‘brrrrp’ noises and chords I do, but there’s also a lot of beauty in the melodies, plus electronic vibes, even poppy sounds thanks to JR’s voice.

“My screams and guitars are the taste of my own flavor, which partly relates to what me and Munky do. I think it’s a good balance. People that compare us to Korn should listen to the record and they will understand how it’s different.”

Brian 'Head' Welch

Pedal-wise, is there any new gear that’s been blowing your mind?

Brian: “I got hooked up with this thing called the [Chase Bliss Audio] Tonal Recall. It’s weird and amazing. It was actually the ex-drummer from Avenged Sevenfold, Arin Ilejay, who hooked me up with that.

“He’s started playing guitar and getting obsessed with it, then sent me this video of him playing Falling Away From Me . And I was like, ‘Dude, what is that pedal?!’ It’s become my new secret weapon. What’s your secret weapon, JR?”

JR: “I use Kemper mainly. I used to have a lot of different pedals, then switched to the Axe-Fx 2 and last year I made the move over to Kemper. It’s awesome and always sounds great, plus it makes so much sense for fly gigs.

“There’s no worry about backline gear not being good enough or them not having what you need. Brian gave me an MXR Uni-Vibe, the mini version, and I ended up using it a lot on this record.

“We used a Klon as well for an overdrive on all the guitars. We actually rented a real legit one that sounded great. It adds this extra ‘ thing ’ to the guitar that makes your tone awesome.”

And finally Brian, what’s next for Korn – do you think you will finish off The Nothing cycle when normality returns or perhaps start afresh?

Of course we all care about the record, but we can’t just pick up where we left off. We have to do something new and exciting… Brian 'Head' Welch

Brian: “We’re talking and sending things back and forth, waiting to see what unfolds and working with management. When you aren’t touring with crew members and bus companies, you end up with a lot of time to come up with ideas. It could involve new music, we’re just going with the flow.

“A lot of bands are stuck at home working on music because there’s nothing else to do. Hopefully we can break through the noise with all the new music coming out, whenever that happens.

“I think M Shadows said it best, I read an article just last week when he said that if you put out a record over the pandemic, in a year from now or whatever, no one is going to care about that record.

“And I kinda think about The Nothing like that – it came out, we wanted to work it for two years and we couldn’t . Of course we all care about the record, but we can’t just pick up where we left off. We have to do something new and exciting… it’s just a case of figuring out what that is!”

“He Walks By Night” – Listen to a Brand New John Carpenter Song NOW!

' src=

It’s a new day, and you’ve got new John Carpenter to listen to. John Carpenter, Daniel Davies and Cody Carpenter have released the new track He Walks By Night this morning, the second single off their upcoming album Lost Themes IV: Noir , out May 3 on Sacred Bones Records.

Lost Themes IV: Noir  is the latest installment in a series that sees Carpenter releasing new music for John Carpenter movies that don’t actually exist. The first  Lost Themes  was released in 2015, followed by  Lost Themes II  in 2016 and  Lost Themes III: Alive After Death  in 2021.

Sacred Bones previews, “It’s been a decade since John Carpenter recorded the material that would become Lost Themes , his debut album of non-film music and the opening salvo in one of Hollywood’s great second acts. Those vibrant, synth-driven songs, made in collaboration with his son Cody Carpenter and godson Daniel Davies, kickstarted a musical renaissance for the pioneering composer and director. With Lost Themes IV: Noir , they’ve struck gold again, this time mining the rich history of the film noir genre for inspiration.

“Since the first Lost Themes , John has referred to these compositions as “soundtracks for the movies in your mind.” On the fourth installment in the series, those movies are noirs. Like the film genre they were influenced by, what makes these songs “noirish” is sometimes slippery and hard to define, and not merely reducible to a collection of tropes. The scores for the great American noir pictures were largely orchestral, while the Carpenters and Davies work off a sturdy synth-and-guitar backbone.

“The trio’s free-flowing chemistry means Lost Themes IV: Noir runs like a well-oiled machine—the 1951 Jaguar XK120 Roadster from Kiss Me Deadly , perhaps, or the 1958 Plymouth Fury from John’s own Christine . It’s a chemistry that’s helped power one of the most productive stretches of John’s creative life, and Noir proves that it’s nowhere near done yielding brilliant results.”

You can pre-save  Lost Themes IV: Noir right now! And listen to the new track below…

Love And Death Announce Album Launch Livestream Event

Love And Death's will celebrate comeback album Perfectly Preserved with a very special livestream

Love And Death Announce Album Launch Livestream Event

Last month, Love And Death announced their return after an eight-year hiatus.

The project, led by Korn 's Brian 'Head' Welch and featuring Breaking Benjamin ’s Jasen Rauch, will release their long-awaited second studio album Perfectly Preserved on February 12, 2021. But it's not just enough to drop a record these days, so the release is will also be marked by a global livestream event, featuring an array of special guests for a mix of new and old hits.

"When I reached out to the Love And Death band members, crew and special guests about the arduous task of aligning everyone's schedules, everyone was like, 'Let me check my schedule…, yep, totally free that day!’ I guess that's the popular answer for all musicians this year!" says Head, adding that the livestream will be the band's first show in seven years.

"This concert is going to be something totally new for us. We've all had the privilege of playing concerts for decades and have travelled the world many times over, but putting together a global streaming event with so many talented musicians and sharing vocals with these amazing singers is a first for me.

This is without a doubt a once in a lifetime experience for Love And Death and we are calling all Love And Death fans around the globe to join us for this very special one time event."

To get a taste of what's in store on the new album, the band have also released an official video for comeback single Down.

“I feel like what our world needs most in this very unique moment in time are real stories about overcoming struggle. These are honest songs co-written by our group of friends targeting depression/mental health, challenging relationships, trauma, loneliness, and related issues," said Head previously, addressing Love And Death's upcoming album.

“There are certain things we can do melodically in Love and Death that might not work in Korn,” continued Jasen, who also produced the band’s 2013 Between Here & Lost debut. “For me, there are certain creative risks I can take with the arrangements and production that wouldn’t fit with Breaking Benjamin. In this band, we don’t worry about how long a song might be, for example.”

Love And Death's Perfectly Preserved livestream takes place on February 12, 2021 at 1am UK time/8pm EST/5pm PST.

Love and Death Announce Livestream Album Release Show, Reveal ‘Down’ Video

Love and Death , the recently revived alt-metal supergroup containing Korn 's Brian "Head" Welch and Breaking Benjamin 's Jasen Rauch, have just unleashed a music video for their new single "Down." The song itself, first released last month , is the outfit's first fresh material in seven years.

In addition to the clip, Love and Death have announced a livestream album release concert for the same day the band's upcoming studio effort  Perfectly Preserved  arrives. The global event occurs Friday, Feb. 12, 2021, and tickets for the livestream show plus album merch bundles are on sale now .

As for the "Down" music video, it's primarily a colorful performance piece with jarring camera shots and hypnotic visuals. Watch the "Down" music video toward the bottom of this post.

Love and Death's return sure has been a long time coming. The band — which also features JR Bareis (formerly of Islander ) and Isaiah Perez (drummer for Phinehas) — first took its current name in 2012 as a rebranding for Welch's material outside the scope of Korn. An introductory EP called Chemicals emerged that same year, followed in 2013 by the group's debut album, Between Here and Lost .

But apart from a single tune issued in 2016 ("Lo Lamento," which also finds a place on Perfectly Preserved ), Love and Death evinced little public activity in the preceding span. That all changed this year when it was officially revealed that Rauch had joined the group as a writer and performer as part of the band's new lineup.

"There are certain things we can do melodically in Love and Death that might not work in Korn," Rauch explained in a press release. "For me, there are certain creative risks I can take with the arrangements and production that wouldn't fit with Breaking Benjamin."

Talking about Love And Death’s first show in seven years, Head says: “When I reached out to the Love And Death band members, crew and special guests about the arduous task of aligning everyone's schedules, everyone was like 'Let me check my schedule…, yep, totally free that day!’ I guess that's the popular answer for all musicians this year!”

“This concert is going to be something totally new for us. We've all had the privilege of playing concerts for decades and have traveled the world many times over, but putting together a global streaming event with so many talented musicians and sharing vocals with these amazing singers is a first for me! This is without a doubt a once in a lifetime experience for Love And Death and we are calling all Love And Death fans around the globe to join us for this very special one time event.”

INTERVIEW/ALBUM REVIEW: LOVE AND DEATH

Let’s start out with the song “The Abandoning.”  There is but one word to describe this song and that word is brutal.  At first listen I thought “Ok, Korn has decided to ditch the dubstep sound and return to their roots.”  As the song continued and the chorus kicked in frankly I was in disbelief. The chorus to this song may very well be one of the best I have ever heard.  It is quite incredible; very melodic and everything you could ask for in a chorus and so begins an amazing  start to a fantastic album.

Next up, “Watching The Bottom Fall” starts out great, and builds and just gets better all the way to the chorus.  The riffing on this album done by guitarists JR Bareis and Brian “Head” Welch is some of the heaviest and best guitar work I have heard in a long time.  “By The Way” is has a ballad tone, which is a great thing in this case.  It is not as heavy as most of the other songs on the album but it is catchy as hell. If you are like me you will be singing this one before the song is over.

“Meltdown” is up next.  All I can say is, “I think I’m having a meltdown.”  I think Brian “Head” Welch had a meltdown in this song.  It goes back and forth from melodic to shit balls heavy.  Just about the time you are getting into the melody it gets all brutal on ya, Damn.  “My Disaster” has some nice bass work by Michael Valentine on it.

This album is chock full of killer tunes.  If you look on Dictionary.com and enter the term “All killer and no filler” a picture of this album should come up.  This is the most solid CD from top to bottom that I have heard in a long time, if not ever.  Brian’s vocals on this album are second to none.  With songs like “I W8 4 U,” “Fading Away,” “Paralyzed”  and “Chemicals,” this album is a must have in any and all music collections.  The CD closes with the song “Bruises” which is creepy as hell.  When the song reaches the two minute and 25 seconds mark prepare to relive that Maxell moment I had myself.  Wowza!

Interview with  Dan Johnson of LOVE AND DEATH :

I recently had the chance to sit down and chat with drummer  Dan Johnson , who provides the amazing beats on this epic album. He is not only a terrific timekeeper but I also found him to be one hell of a nice guy.  Here is how it all went down…

How did the band arrive at the name  Love and Death ?

When these titles (both the new band/album names) were created was this done intentionally to create a theme or a setting for the band and do you think that the intended meanings are a good representation or description of the band.

Dan/L&D:  I think everyone is really happy with the album title.  I think it’s really pretty significant with songs like ‘ Catastrophe ‘.  I thought that it was a very appropriate name for the album.  As far as the band name Love and Death I was a little skeptical at first.  It took a while for it to grow on me but it finally did.

You played with Brian’s solo band. Since the band has been renamed Love and Death have there been any other changes as far as writing and in actual direction etc?

Dan/L&D: As you know Brian’s first album Save Me From Myself was pretty preachy. Brian just had found God and everything and the songs were like 9 minutes long. We were more inclined this time to produce a more mainstream rock album. With the new album it’s the same kind of messages but you can apply them to anything and you don’t necessarily have to apply them to God. We wanted to make an album that was relatable to everyone. Our guitar player JR is really into the new rock and so am I so that helped a lot in writing style.

What are the dynamics of the band?  Is the band a collective effort or is Brian more the leader per?  How about as far as songwriting, again more Brian or more of a band effort?

Dan/L&D: It really is a collaboration on all accounts. Brian really wanted it to be more of a team effort and more of a group thing and this album is.  I’m very proud of the album and I can’t wait to see what everyone thinks about it.

Let’s get into the album Between Here and Lost . What are your personal favorite songs from the album and why?

How did the idea to do the song “whip it” come about.

Dan/L&D:   Brian had the idea to do “Whip It.”  No one has ever really redone that song and he thought it would be a cool thing to do.  When he first told me about that I thought to myself, “Oh, I don’t know.”  After it was done and now that the whole format has changed it is now one of my favorites.

The titles to the songs on the album seem to be telling.  If you go down the track listing from “The Abandoning” through “Bruises” it almost reads like a story.  Would you say that is a accurate statement and that this album is sort of a form of therapy for Brian or maybe the story of his life?

Dan/L&D:    Absolutely.  It really is like telling a story with this album and bands don’t really do that much anymore.  Brian and producer Jason Rauch were the ones that worked on that.  Jason works with a lot of mainstream rock artists like Red and Breaking Benjamin so that was his doing putting them in order.  I really like how the whole story flows together.  Not many bands tell the story from start to finish anymore.

The band pictures you guys have released are very intense, specifically the one with you guys almost becoming human trees. Who came up with the ideas for the pictures? Are they symbolic for something or are they just interesting pictures?

Dan/L&D:   I’m going to be honest here I was never told any certain meaning or anything.  I think it was a photographer from Tooth & Nail   Records that came up with that.  When we were doing those pictures I didn’t know what they were doing with them. They told us to pose certain ways and I was like, “Ok.”

The Korn website announced back in November that Brian is playing a few full shows with Korn in Germany in 2013.  There was also a video released by James “Munky” Shaffer stating that the dates were sort of a “let’s see how it goes and if it goes well there could be a possible rejoining of the band Korn .”  I know you can’t speak for Brian and I am not asking you to, but I know that fans of Love and Death wonder if this will affect Love and Death in any way if that were to happen.  To put rumors to rest would you like to address that?

How does it feel playing live with the guys of love and death .

Dan/L&D:  Oh man I love it, especially now.  We all like to hang out together.  We are best friends and we know each other really well on stage and off stage.  To connect off stage is just as important as connecting on stage.  There is no negativity with this band and we all have good attitudes.  We have fun every day and every time we play.  All four of us poured our hearts into this so I’m glad that it shows.

What are your plans for the next year as far as touring and with all things Love and Death in general what can fans expect?

Dan/L&D:   There’s going to be a lot of heavy touring.  We’re going out with Thousand Foot Krutch in the middle of February.  We are going to be doing a club tour with them for about six weeks.  There are talks on the table of us opening up some Korn dates as well.  I know they plan on keeping us busy and that’s what I’m always pushing for.  It looks like we will be releasing our brand new video for “The Awakening” pretty soon.  We did a video back in November and it is finally getting done now.  I don’t know what video after that we are planning on releasing yet, likely some live ones.

In closing, is there anything you would like to say to your fans?

Twiztid interview and pics.

With a kickass new album and a positive outlook,  the sky is the limit for Dan and his band mates in Love and Death .  This is the band to keep your eyes peeled for in 2013.  Don’t say we didn’t tell you so.  Pick up the new album “ Between Here And Lost ” when it is released on January 22nd via Tooth & Nail Records. It’s gonna blow your mind.  If you get a chance to catch these guys out on tour do yourself a favor and check em’ out.

Love and Death (band)

Love and Death is an American Christian metal band formed by Korn guitarist Brian "Head" Welch . The group was officially announced in February 2012 as a re-branding of Welch's solo music project.

Formation and early years (2009–2012)

Chemicals ep, between here & lost (2012–2015), perfectly preserved (2016–present), band members, discography.

The group is effectively a re-branding of the touring group that performed under Welch's name to promote his solo album . Formed in 2009, Welch recruited musicians through open auditions via YouTube , and second-round auditions, in person, at his studio in Phoenix, Arizona . [4] The original group was a six-piece group, who featured Michael Valentine on bass, Ralph Patlan on guitar, Brian Ruedy on keyboards, Scott "SVH" Von Heldt on guitars and vocals and Dan Johnson on drums. After two years of touring, Von Heldt departed the band due to financial reasons, [ citation needed ] whereas Ruedy was let go a few months earlier and later joined Whitesnake . [5] Patlan also departed the band, but no reason was given. The search began to find a guitar player. In March 2011, two weeks before a tour, Welch discovered "the perfect fit" for his band through Thousand Foot Krutch 's public audition videos for a new guitarist on YouTube. 15 years old at the time, J.R. Bareis was chosen by Welch to be the new guitar player and became an official permanent member of the band, as they settled on establishing themselves as a four-piece. The group released a single, "Paralyzed" in November 2011, under the Brian "Head" Welch name. In February 2012, the touring band was re-branded into the group Love and Death.

Love and Death was formally announced in February 2012 through an official statement made by Welch. In the statement, Welch explained that "I have wanted to use a band name for branding my music for a few years. It has been an ongoing discussion with my management, but we were just starting to tour and I was in the middle of supporting my third book and it seemed like a bad time to switch names. Now with the new music coming out, it's time to really separate the things I do. I want the music to be about music. I will still be doing public speaking under Brian Head Welch. I am happy that all the confusion will be over". [4] The name Love and Death was chosen because love and death are the two most significant things you can go through in life. [6]

The band's debut single, " Chemicals ", was released in early April, while their debut EP of the same name released on April 24, 2012. [4] Welch revealed that they would be releasing a cover version of the song " Whip It " by Devo and a remix of "Paralyzed" by Har Meggido. [ citation needed ]

In late September 2012, the band announced that it had signed a deal with record label Tooth and Nail Records / EMI and that the group's debut album, Between Here & Lost would be released on November 20, however this was pushed back and released on January 22, 2013. [7] [8] On the album, Welch stated that "this record was birthed from trials, tribulations, pain, suffering, anxiety, depression, and drama. However, we came out on top and the end result is a very real, raw & honest record." [8]

On March 15, 2016 a new single titled "Lo Lamento" was released. [9] [10] In August 2019, it was announced that Welch was recruiting musicians such as Jasen Rauch , Lacey Sturm and Spencer Chamberlain about appearing on his next work, thought to be the next Love and Death album. [11]

On October 24, 2020, it was announced that the band had signed with extreme metal label Earache Records in order to release their new album in 2021. [12] On Friday, November 13, 2020, the band released "Down", with a new lineup of Welch, Bareis, longtime friend, producer, and Breaking Benjamin guitarist Jasen Rauch on bass, and Phinehas drummer Isaiah Perez on drums. [13] On January 8, 2021, the band released "White Flag" as the second single from Perfectly Preserved . It features sound similarities to both Korn and Breaking Benjamin . [14] Ahead of the album's release Welch explained that the band was able to get together to create the new album, because their main musical projects were on hold due the COVID-19 pandemic . [15] The album has sold 1,400 copies in its first week of release. [ citation needed ]

The Rock Revival

The two groups are running back their Kiss of Death Tour

Ice Nine Kills live

After their wildly successful co-headlining run last year, Ice Nine Kills and In This Moment are running it back. The two acts announced the Kiss of Death Tour Part 2. The two bands will join forces once again to bring their spectacular and highly acclaimed live shows together this summer in 21 cities across the country. Very special guests for the trek will be Avatar and TX2. The run begins on August 6 at the Broadview Stage at SPAC in Saratoga Springs, New York, and Thursday, September 10 at The Factory in Chesterfield, Missouri.

Speaking on the announcement of the tour, Ice Nine Kills frontman, Spencer Charnas, shares, “The Kiss of Death tour with our friends, In This Moment, last year was one for the books… We’re excited to continue the body count this summer when we do it all over again, only bigger, bloodier and without being on parole… See you there Psychos!”

“We are thrilled to announce we are joining forces once again with the one and only Ice Nine Kills and special guests Avatar. We all knew after finalizing the first leg of this tour that there was no other choice than to bring it back for more dates. It’s a visual and audio experience that people will never forget. Get your tickets now!”

Tickets for the Kiss of Death Tour will go on general sale at 10am local on Friday, April 19. Pre-sales start today at 12pm. Check out the full tour itinerary below.

Since the release of ‘ The Silver Scream 2: Welcome To Horrorwood  ‘, Ice Nine Kills have seen phenomenal growth. Throughout 2022 they toured the US extensively on 3 legs of The Trinity of Terror. During 2022 and throughout 2023 they supported Metallica in packed, sold-out stadiums around the world on their M72 World Tour. They toured the US with Slipknot and launched their enormously successful horror convention, The Silver Scream Con, which just celebrated it’s second, sold-out edition in the fall of 2023. Spencer was featured in the music video for the official song from Scream 6 – Demi Lovato’s “Still Alive,” an Ice Nine Kills flyer was used in the movie and featured a Spencer-recommended easter egg.

Maria Brink In This Moment live

Beginning in the spring of 2023, as well as wowing packed-out stadiums around the world with Metallica, Ice Nine Kills headlined numerous sold-out shows on their Wurst Vacation European tour and thrilled tens of thousands of fans at Download Festival to huge acclaim from both critics and fans alike. They then toured the US with Falling In Reverse on their Popular Monstour run and hit the road for ‘ Fear The Premiere ‘ US headline shows in August. Ice Nine Kills closed out 2023 on a high with the release of ‘  Welcome To Horrorwood Under Fire  ‘, an exclusive VIP event in Hollywood for the debut of new single “Meat & Greet” and the premiere of the full “Welcome To Horrorwood Saga” movies (featuring all music videos from the album as one chronological clip) and the phenomenally successful, inaugural run of the Kiss of Death co- headline tour with In This Moment.

In This Moment are returning to the road this spring. The band is embarking on The Godmode Tour in support of their latest album of this same name. The run includes more Dark Horizon co-headlining dates with Motionless In White. Kim Dracula and Mike’s Dead will serve as special guests for all shows, while I See Stars will perform on In This Moment’s headlining dates.

The all-new  GODMODE  arrived back on October 27 thought BMG. Fans can order physical versions and save the album for streaming now  HERE . The album is available on blue swirl vinyl, CD, and digital download. To celebrate the album’s release, the band has unveiled a  GODMODE  merchandise line that includes a zip hoodie, fleece sweatpants, flask, license plate, wall flag, and three different t-shirts.

Avatar band live

The album was produced by Kane Churko (Rob Zombie, Disturbed, Papa Roach) and Tyler Bates. Bates produced, wrote songs for, and played multiple instruments on albums by Marilyn Manson, Bush, and Alice In Chains guitarist Jerry Cantrell. He is best known, however, for scoring the box office smash  300 , the Emmy Award-winning Showtime series  Californication , the  Guardians of the Galaxy  and  John Wick  film franchises. In This Moment’s song “I Would Die For You” appeared on the soundtrack for  John Wick: Chapter 4 , for which Bates wrote the score.

In 2020, In This Moment released their latest album  Mother  (Roadrunner Records) with longtime producer Kevin Churko (Ozzy Osbourne, Disturbed, Five Finger Death Punch). The record featured the GRAMMY® Award-nominated single “The In-Between .”  Last year, In This Moment released  Blood 1983  (BMG), a reimagined EP commemorating the tenth anniversary of their gold-selling album  Blood .

Aerosmith announces rescheduled dates for 'Peace Out' farewell tour; Here's when they are stopping in Louisville

A erosmith has rescheduled their farewell tour date in Louisville after the band was forced to postpone all of their PEACE OUT shows in September 2023 after Steven Tyler fractured his larynx.

This new leg of the tour kicks off September 20 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and finishes up on February 26 in Buffalo, New York. The 40-date tour will include 3 news shows in addition to the rescheduled dates.

The 4X Grammy award-winning and diamond-certified rock legends will once again be joined by The Black Crowes.

The "PEACE OUT" tour will stop at the KFC Yum! Center in downtown Louisville on Thursday, September 26. This will also be the first day of Louder Than Life .

"It's not goodbye it's PEACE OUT!" the band initially said a joint statement. "Get ready to walk this way, you're going to get the best show of our lives."

Officials said founding Aerosmith member Joey Kramer will not be on tour.

"While Joey Kramer remains a beloved founding member of Aerosmith, he has regrettably made the decision to sit out the currently scheduled touring dates to focus his full attention on his family and health," the band said. "Joey's unmistakable and legendary presence behind the drum kit will be sorely missed."

All previously purchased tickets will be honored for the rescheduled shows. Ticketholders will receive more information via email.

For those who haven't purchased tickets yet, but would like to, they will go on sale Friday, April 12 at 10 a.m. at the KFC Yum! Center box office and online .

The tour will also offer a variety of different VIP packages and experiences. Packages vary but include a premium reserved ticket, limited edition merchandise and more.
