The Argosy Christmas Ship Schedule

One of the great holiday traditions is the Christmas Ship. Argosy Cruises’ “Christmas Ship” is accompanied by several “Parade Ships” to spread cheer and song along the Seattle area waterfront.

Argosy

As boaters, we have another choice, bring our own boats and follow along! Crank up the cabin heater because it looks like we’re in for some chilly days, It’s a great excuse to get out on the water! Invite a friend or two with admonitions about dressing warmly.

From Sound to Shore: Where to Watch the Christmas Ship Festival

Santa stands in front of a Seattle Christmas Ship festival boat with a bouy

The holidays may be months away, but the Seattle Christmas Ship Festival will be here before you know it. Get tickets while you can

The Seattle Christmas Ship Festival is back in 2022! One of the city’s most beloved holiday traditions , if you can’t wait to experience this dose of holiday cheer, you’re in luck. Whether you want to catch a ride with St. Nick on the The Spirit of Seattle or want to listen to the choir, gathered ’round a bonfire at a local beach, there are tons of ways families can enjoy this Pacific Northwest tradition. Remember that this super popular event sells out quickly, as do reservations at local restaurants. So if you want to get in on the singing, Santa , lighted boat action, now is the time to do it.

Ride the Christmas Ship Lead Boat

Every year  Argosy Cruises  pulls out all the stops with the spectacularly decorated Spirit of Seattle, the designated Christmas Ship that all the other boats follow. During the 90-minute cruise, a local choir sings at scheduled shore side locations (see schedule below) and Santa mingles with the kids and smiles for holiday pictures. While on board you can expect some holiday sing-alongs and a very special reading of 'Twas the Night Before Christmas with Santa. The boat has two fully enclosed, heated decks, one outside deck, restrooms and a cash bar. While cruisin’ the waters, you and your little elves can enjoy snacks, chowder and beverages available for purchase. Reserve online .

Cost: $54/Adult; $40/Kid (4–12); $50/Senior; Free, kids 3 & under; $72/person for Opening Night (Nov. 25) & Grande Finale (Dec. 23)

Follow the Christmas Ship Boat

Being on the Christmas Ship is quite a treat, but so is riding the Follow Boat that (you guessed it) follows the lead ship. Not only will you get fantastic photos of the Spirit of Seattle, but you’ll get many of the Christmas Ship perks, too. Fully enclosed with outside areas, restrooms and food and drink for purchase, the follow boat cruise is a bit longer and includes a broadcast of the choir aboard The Spirit of Seattle. So far the Follow Boat will run on two nights—

Good to Know:  This year the Follow Boat is 21 and over. Maybe a great date night?

Cost: $57/Person

Dine at a Waterfront Restaurant

Because sitting down to dinner at a restaurant with a view is always in season, here’s a fun idea: check the sailing schedule below and pick a primo viewing location with nearby waterfront restaurants, like Lake Union, Alki, Redondo Beach or Leschi. Places like Duke’s ,  Anthony’s ,  Salty’s  and Ivar’s Salmon House are all great options with covered outdoor seating and viewing decks, so you and the fam can feast your eyes on a panorama of glowing boats while also enjoying a fine meal.

Watch from the Shore at Local Beaches & Parks

Whether it’s your neighborhood beach park or a stunning downtown location like the Olympic Sculpture Park, when the Christmas Ships sail past it’s a truly spectacular sight. Many locations will have a bonfire going, which are noted below. Bundle up the kiddos, grab a thermos of hot cocoa and go! Times listed below detail when the parade will stop and broadcast choir performances over their state-of-the-art sound system. The full schedule includes sailing departure times, private events and bonfire details.

Love it, if on a nice night, you really can enjoy the experience, it was amazing I was ready to propose with the beuty

It's been a while but I remember the cruise being a bit long, slightly boring! I know people probably love it, I liked it but probably wouldn't do it again. It was beautiful because the weather was great and the sky was blue and you can't go wrong on Lake Washington!

Thank you for the review! The Lake Washington Cruise is one of our more "chill" cruises, if you will. But this year we have shortened up the trip and reworked the tour narration, and changed the route! We now dip down into Meydenbauer Bay so passengers can see the Bellevue skyline. So you just might need to cruise it again after all. ;) Thanks again for the feedback -- it really does help us make a better product for our guests.

A delightful night cruise around Lake Washington with lots of decorated boats following us around. Excellent Christmas experience with Santa, carolers, and Christmas music. The grandkids really enjoyed the experience.

If you have not seen the Gold Coast then take an Argosy trip from Kirkland to see how the local innovators have spent their monies. You will see some memorable architecture. Of course you could paddle your canoe and kayak there but it might be more difficult to also enjoy your beverages as you eyeball views.

Each and every one of the workers was in splendid holiday spirit making the evening festive, even with the pouring rain. High fives to the Argosy staff for taking a member of our party to and from the ship in a wheelchair in the rain, and all the way to his vehicle when we disembarked. Santa and a choir were on board, there was a gift shop where the prices were not outrageous, and most everyone who attended was dressed in ugly sweaters, flashing lights, red, green, or sophisticated black sequins/winter white. It would have been better if we could go outside on the upper deck, but Argosy is not responsible for Mother Nature's behavior. Boxed sandwiches and chips were available for purchase, but we stopped for dinner before boarding.

The Lake Washington Argosy Cruise trip was my third trip with the cruise line. I was excited to explore this area more and I felt like I had a very satisfying trip! There was a little bit of frustration but much of it did not have to do with Argosy. They have three departure times to tour around the lake. I planned to go to the earliest one but realized that I wouldn't make it so I hoped to make the second departure time. I didn't make it due to heavy construction as a result of weekend construction on I-5. That was really the most infuriating about making these times but again that has nothing to do with Argosy. I encountered a little bit more frustration once I got to Kirkland because the ticket office to buy tickets was closed. In between departure times the ticketing office closes and reopens a half an hour before the next departure time. That is a huge difference compared to the Argosy Cruise location in downtown Seattle where it is open during the day time hours. But I understand why and the reason is that there are a lot more cruise tours that leave from that location while the Kirkland location just has the one tour offered. The tour itself was very enjoyable! The tour guide that narrated during the tour was very good and knowledgeable about the area and the lake! We toured closest to the Bellevue side and looked at many of the lavish homes that were along the lake shore. Very beautiful homes! This area is probably the most primo of homes in the metro area as you can get! We also went by Bill and Melinda Gates' home which was a real highlight even though much of the house was obscured by trees. Lake Washington has a couple floating bridges and we went under the 520 floating bridge which was very cool to see! The views of Seattle, Bellevue and Mount Rainier were in top form as there was minimal haze the day I went. Tickets for this cruise are around the $36 range and the tour itself lasts about an hour and a half. There is a cocktail bar on the ship as well as snacks. It was a fun, relaxing trip after the frustration from the beginning of the outing and is enjoyable for summer tourists as well as locals... in fact the cruise I was on it seemed like that there were more locals than there were people from out of town! The tour guide popped this question early on. This location also does a Christmas cruise and that trip would be pretty since the areas around the lake really go all out on decorations apparently!

Had a great trip around Lake Washington using Argosy Cruises. The boarding process is easy and the staff immediately made us feel welcomed. The boat itself is clean, and has plenty seating. The tour guide was really knowledgeable, and pretty much spoke for the entire 90 minute trip. He was also available to answer any questions. There is a bar available for snacks and drinks, but you are probably better off bringing some snacks, or eating before hand. The cruise is centrally located within Kirkland making it easy to get to. I found this tour great value for money!

I took a tour here with my BFF as we were given free passes from the Heathman Hotel. The cruise was really nice with a simple tour of Lake Washington, starting in Kirkland, going past Medina, Bellevue then over to downtown Seattle and back to Kirkland. The tour guide was friendly and spoke clearly. A couple times she mentioned she couldn't give the name of the house she was talking about due to legal reasons but we all knew who she was referring to by the descriptions she used. The round trip was 90 minutes and really relaxing. The tour was kind of like a Hollywood stars bus tour but geared towards the rich and famous of Seattle. They had snacks and drinks available on the boat. There's seating on deck on both levels and indoors as well. I wouldn't bring kids on this cruise. Teens may find it relaxing but kids 12 and under would probably be bored out of their minds.

Thank you for the review, Sheri! Looks like you enjoyed your time on the boat with us. Mind if we ask what would have brought your experience up to a 5-star level? We are always looking to improve our cruises for our guests and value your feedback!

My husband surprised me with a cruise through Lake Union, the Ballard Locks & Puget sound for my birthday! It was a great experience, and I would recommend this cruise to anyone visiting Seattle. We started our trip by getting on a bus by the Port of Seattle. This was the only negative part of the trip. The bus was fine, but it moved so slowly (which was fine- it was hard for the bus to navigate the traffic). To my understanding there was supposed to be commentary and a mini tour on the bus, but there was nothing. No one said anything as we left, we just kind of started driving away. The slow bus ride would of been much improved with a little history of Seattle added on. After that, everything was great! We were welcomed on the boat by many people. There were lots of great seats. It was a rainy day, so there wasn't a lot of people. We were able to move freely from the inside to the outside for better pictures. They offered drinks and snacks for purchase. We got popcorn, which was a pretty good deal. Our tour guide was great! We loved his commentary and he talked just the right amount. We spent 2.5 hours on the boat, which seemed like a perfect amount of time. I wouldn't of wanted it to be any shorter. I loved the tour, and it was a perfect birthday activity. I would love to do it again!

I wanted this to be good. I bought tickets for the lead ship of the Christmas Criuse. We dressed up and were so excited to embark. We came up the stairs and there were screaming children and already drunk passengers everywhere. There was not a seat to be had on the first deck and not 2 together on the second. You are literally packed in like sardines. There is less leg room than an economy seat on a 737. We couldn't see out the window or enjoy the view. The snacks were really bad pre-packaged things like you get on an airplane. I really should have politely asked to leave before we sailed, but we tried to make the best of it. It was awful. Like, really oh my God awful. Don't do this. Pack a picnic, take the ferry and bring a Christmas CD. A 10th the price and 100 times more enjoyable

Had Argosy cruise trip over the lake Washington, hoping to experience the same beautiful and relaxing trip as the Argosy @ Seattle, but this choice was my biggest mistake. There were 30 minute delay as soon as we arrived, and the tour guide was extremely unfriendly, and boring. I took my foreign relatives and they were very disappointed.

We are so sorry that you had such a disappointing experience on our Lake Washington Cruise this past summer. Yours is definitely not the kind of experience we expect our guests to have while spending time with us. We are reaching out to you now via direct message for contact information so our Guest Services Team can hear more about your experience. Thank you for the feedback.

Nice cruise along Lake Washington with informative guide. Friendly staff but limited snacks on board. Better to walk with your own! Wonderful views of Lakefront mansions. Maybe boring for kids. Recommend more for adults.

What a terrific cruise! Even being a local, it was nice to learn the history of Kirkland and Bellevue. The day was beautiful and the cruise was smooth. What a perfect day to be out on the lake! The crew took great care of all of us! Becca did a terrific job of narrating the entire way. Way to go Argosy!!!

Thank you for review! We're glad you had a great time out on Lake Washington with us. I'll pass the good word along to Becca's managers. :)

I took a tour of Lake Washington and it was beautiful! The views, the houses, and the nature surrounding us on the boat was incredible! The staff was friendly and accommodating! The boat was clean and well maintained! It is great how there is covered seating, outdoor seating, and inside seating on the boat, giving a great variety of seating. The information that was given was great and very informative! I learned about the lake, the surrounding areas and was even able to see the houses of famous people! It was an overall great experience and I plan on doing another Argosy Cruise of a different lake next time I am in the Seattle area!

Thank you for the review and rating! We can't wait to host you again out on the water!

Moscow Metro

The Moscow Metro Tour is included in most guided tours’ itineraries. Opened in 1935, under Stalin’s regime, the metro was not only meant to solve transport problems, but also was hailed as “a people’s palace”. Every station you will see during your Moscow metro tour looks like a palace room. There are bright paintings, mosaics, stained glass, bronze statues… Our Moscow metro tour includes the most impressive stations best architects and designers worked at - Ploshchad Revolutsii, Mayakovskaya, Komsomolskaya, Kievskaya, Novoslobodskaya and some others.

What is the kremlin in russia?

The guide will not only help you navigate the metro, but will also provide you with fascinating background tales for the images you see and a history of each station.

And there some stories to be told during the Moscow metro tour! The deepest station - Park Pobedy - is 84 metres under the ground with the world longest escalator of 140 meters. Parts of the so-called Metro-2, a secret strategic system of underground tunnels, was used for its construction.

During the Second World War the metro itself became a strategic asset: it was turned into the city's biggest bomb-shelter and one of the stations even became a library. 217 children were born here in 1941-1942! The metro is the most effective means of transport in the capital.

There are almost 200 stations 196 at the moment and trains run every 90 seconds! The guide of your Moscow metro tour can explain to you how to buy tickets and find your way if you plan to get around by yourself.

Christmas gift guide to Moscow surroundings

kirkland christmas cruise

Visitors from America and Western Europe might be surprised to discover that Russia celebrates Christmas on January 7th. That’s because the Russian Orthodox Church follows the Julian calendar. After the end of the Soviet Union, some Russians have begun celebrating Christmas on December 25 in accordance with the Gregorian calendar. But many Russians still observe the tradition of fasting on January 6th, breaking the fast with a large feast on Christmas Eve after the first star has appeared in the sky.

During the Soviet era, Christmas and religious traditions were banned in Russia. Santa Claus was replaced by Ded Moroz, or, Grandfather Frost, an old man with a long white beard who would bring gifts to children on New Year’s instead of Christmas. According to Russian tradition, Ded Moroz is accompanied by his granddaughter, Snegurochka, the Snowmaiden, who helps him on his journey to give presents to children.

Although the tradition of having a Christmas tree, known as a yolka in Russian, was also banned during Soviet times, Russians got around this by having New Year’s trees from which they hung homemade decorations. Today, the restrictions of the Soviet Union have faded into history, and during the Christmas season visitors to Russia can even purchase Christmas ornaments in the shape of matryoshka dolls, or religious icons that depict nativity scenes.

Heading counterclockwise around the Golden Ring this holiday season, northeast of Moscow, your first stop will most likely be the city of Vladimir, home to some of Russia’s most striking churches and cathedrals. The Vladimir region is known for its fine crystal. Stop by the Crystal, Lacquer Miniatures, and Embroidery Museum ( 2 Bolshaya Moskovskaya ) for an overview of traditional crafts before visiting the gift shop in the museum to browse the crystal selection. Vladimir Chic ( 2 Dvoryanskaya ) also sells local glass and crystal work.

Typical souvenirs are also for sale in Vladimir’s old town, especially by the Golden Gate, a triumphal arch and defensive tower that is one of the last-remaining parts of the wall that once surrounded ancient Vladimir and a sure stop on any tour of the Golden Ring.

Just 63 kilometers from Vladimir lays the nearby city of Gus-Khrustalny , the ‘Crystal Goose,’ also home to a rich glass and crystal making tradition. You can visit the glassmaking factory in Gus-Khrustalny and buy gifts ranging from plates and vases to decanters, or visit the outlet store back in Moscow ( 4 Ilyinka ) just east of the Kremlin.

North of Vladimir, you’ll arrive in Suzdal, one of the Golden Ring route’s more tranquil towns. Suzdal boasts a number of small bazaars and stands outside the main tourist sites where visitors can purchase local honey mead, called medovukha, along with traditional crafts, like a pair valenki, or Russian woolen boots, which make an ideal Christmas gift for friends and family back home. The shopping stands outside Suzdal’s Museum of Wooden Architecture and Peasant Life ( Ul. Pushkarskaya ) are also highly recommended. Market Square ( Torgovaya Pl ) houses a number of shops where visitors can search for arts and crafts.

Following the Golden Ring north of Suzdal, many tours will stop in the city of Kostroma, a former trading outpost on the immense Volga River. One of the city’s highlights is the Museum of Linen and Birchbark ( 38 Tereshkova ), where visitors can view exhibits on traditional Russian crafts woven from flax and bark. A gift shop in the basement sells tablecloths, napkins, baskets, linen dolls, and traditional clothing typical of the region.

South from Kostroma, stop in the city of Rostov-Veliky for enamel jewelry, a craft which allows artists to produce small paintings on metal that are then fired to produce a thin glaze over the image. Rostov became famous for its tradition of enamel work. Today, visitors can purchase rings, earrings, bracelets, brooches, and jewelry boxes in the gift shop of the Rostov Enamel factory ( 3 Borisoglebskoye Highway ).

While you’re in Rostov, visit the House of Crafts ( 16 Vtoraya Tolstovskaya Naberezhnaya ) for local pottery and the Souvenirs shop ( 5 Ul. Kamennyi Most ) for ushanka hats—Russian fur caps with earflaps—paintings, and samovars for tea lovers.

The last two stops on a tour of the Golden Ring are the cities of Pereslavl-Zalesskiy and Sergiev Posad. Pereslavl is most famous for its embroidery work, available at the Art Salon ( 12 Ul. Sovetskaya ) along with souvenirs made of wood and stone. Nearby Sergiev Posad is considered the place where Russia’s matryoshka dolls were first invented, and was the chief production center of the dolls before Soviet times. Visit the city’s Toy Museum ( 123 Pr. Krasny Armii ) to get a better sense of the birthplace of one of Russia’s most recognizable toys, then head over to the market alongside the Trinity Monastery of St. Sergius—one of the city’s most important sites—to load up on matryoshka dolls, painted eggs, and icons before going home.

If you’ll be in the Golden Ring during New Years, the city of Vladimir hosts an impressive Christmas fair, with an iceskating rink and performances by local artists, in the main square ( Sobornaya Pl ). In most other Golden Ring cities you’ll find similar events in the center square as Christmas nears.

Most shops and markets in the Golden Ring are open year round. If you’re coming to Russia for a short period of time, whether in winter or summer, consider a trip to this stunning part of the country, and bring an extra bag if you plan to go shopping for Christmas gifts.
