Safari Drive-Through

The four-mile self-drive safari is home to some of the world’s most beautiful and critically endangered animals. Split into African and Asian areas, almost all of the animals are free-roaming and can literally walk straight past your car.

In the African Plains, you will experience some of Africa’s largest animals; from gentle giraffe to huge-horned Ankole cattle and curious Congo buffalo, to mesmerising zebra. There is also the chance to glimpse our newest arrivals - two boisterous white rhino calves.

Wild Asia and Asian Lowlands allows you to come face-to-face with an array of endangered deer and antelope, as well as Bactrian camels. You may also get a glimpse of the world’s rarest deer; the Philippine spotted deer. Not forgetting of course, the endearing Indian rhinos and gentle banteng.

The Carnivores section is home to some of the world’s greatest hunters. See the fastest land mammal as you drive through Cheetah Plains and marvel at the magnificent Sumatran tigers and rare painted dogs. Watch the beautiful dhole playing in Wild Woods and go off-road to get closer to the king of beasts in Realm of the Lions.

Towards the end of your safari, you will find our two African elephants, Five and Sutton. Female Five came from an elephant orphanage in Kruger National Park. Sutton (Five’s son), was born in 2014 following artificial insemination, using semen from a wild bull in South Africa. He is the first elephant calf to be born at the Park and one of the first in the world to be born from a procedure using a wild bull.

Discovery Trail

The walk-through Discovery Trail is a fantastic all-weather attraction, hosting several animal exhibits, a variety of encounters, talks and shows and a virtual reality river ride.

Observe the Humboldt penguins in Penguin Cove, as they ‘fly’ effortlessly through the water, or see how many bats and douroucouli (night monkeys) you can spot in our Twilight Cave. Face your phobias in Creepy Crawlies or find the colourful fish in the Aquarium.

At Red Panda Retreat, you will be able to spot Mei Lin and Sanka, as the pair explore their habitat. Reptile World is home to some of the largest and most deadly reptiles on the planet. See the giant green anacondas, shy pancake tortoises and brightly coloured dart frogs.

In Lorikeet Landing, you can get up close to our amazing flock of rainbow lorikeets in their specially designed, heated enclosure. For a small charge, you can purchase a pot of nectar and marvel at these beautiful birds up close, as they perch and eat from your hand.

In addition to all of the exhibits, there are daily feeds, talks and encounters, including the fantastic Sea Lion Show, where our fabulous California sea lions show off their amazing behaviours, both in and out of the water. There is also the chance to feed our penguins, meet one of the Park’s small, friendly animals, or learn more about life in cold blood at the reptile talks.

Land of the Living Dinosaurs

Step back in time as you come face to face with some of the largest, most unusual and fearsome animals to ever roam the planet. Land of the Living Dinosaurs features over 40 life-size, animatronic dinosaurs, making it the largest animatronic dinosaur attraction in the UK. All dinosaurs have moving arms, tails and heads and you can even see them ‘breathing’. Life-like grunts, squawks and mighty roars emit from the prehistoric beasts and along with themed planting, geyser and swamps, the immersive experience makes you feel as if the story of the dinosaurs is unfolding in front of you.

See friendly stegosaurus, ginormous Argentinosaurus and the terrifying t-rex as you journey through the four different time periods, starting with the Permian and ending with the Cretaceous. There is even a chance to dig for fossils in our Dino Dig.

Continue the prehistoric adventure and venture into the UK’s largest Ice Age exhibit. Ice Age is an immersive, multi-sensory experience, allowing guests to step back in time and walk amongst the magnificent creatures that roamed the Earth millions of years ago. It has three distinct and interactive time zones and also features an enormous rumbling volcano and huge atmospheric ice cave, both of which can be walked through by explorers. These moving, breathing and roaring creatures include a giant ground sloth, menacing hell pig and a herd of ginormous mammoth.

African Village

The African Village, located just past the Adventure Theme Park, houses our lemurs and meerkats, plus a walk-through area where you can feed our friendly sheep and goats.

On the way to the Village, make sure you look out for our pod of wallowing hippos. We have the largest pod in the UK and there is a chance to feed them and learn all about their different personalities at the daily Hippo Encounters.

Meerkat Mayhem is home to three mobs of inquisitive, cheeky meerkats. Be immersed in the middle of a true meerkat manor as you watch them socialise, play and forage. You can even feed them in our daily talk.

Walk with lemurs in Lemur Woods - the largest walk-through lemur wood in the UK. Two species of lemurs jump, swing and play around you, as you stroll through the woodland. The Goat Walk allows you to meet and feed our mischievous sheep and goats, and you can see views of our ostriches too.

Adventure Theme Park

If a whole host of animal attractions wasn’t enough, we also have a theme park to make your day even more exciting. The Adventure Theme Park is open daily during the summer season and has a variety of rides, suitable for all of the family.

From traditionalrides showcasing ‘all the fun of the fair’, to water rides and rollercoasters, there is something for the thrill seekers and the younger members of the family. Test your skills on the dodgems, whizz down the slides, plummet 30m towards the earth on Venom Tower Drop, or soar high above the ground on Kong. Some of our rides are definitely not for the faint-hearted!

As well as the rides, the Adventure Theme Park hosts various games stands, and an arcade full of your favourite amusement machines.

PLEASE NOTE: The amusement area and rides are closed during the Winter Season.

Boj’s Giggly Park Play Area

Boj’s Giggly Park opened in 2017 and is an immersive, multi-sensory and themed children’s play area, located next to the Park’s African Village. Here, children will be able to find CBeebies and S4C favourite ‘Boj’ and his friends whilst they explore and play in the five interactive zones, designed specifically for younger visitors.

It features different zones with characters from the show, such as Mia, Mr Cloppity and Denzil and has different activities and objects to explore, such as musical play, an adventure playground and Boj’s Burrow.

Please Note: • All tickets purchased online, witout a Tesco Voucher, will also include a Free-Return Code to visit again within 6 months!*  • Ride Wristbands and Ride Tickets are charged extra to Admission Tickets. They are available to purchase separately on the day of your visit or in advance.

Under 3s can be added onto the booking at no additional cost.
  • The Annual Pass does not permit the passholder for free entry to special events including but not limited to Safari Skating and the Santa Safari grotto experience, however, exclusive Annual Passholder discounts will be communicated closer to each event. The pass will only be valid when using in conjunction with the named pass holder on the access card and the validity will be for the same time as the access card holder's pass. You will be able to book in your visits online and will not need to collect a ticket on the day from Ticket Office.
  • Should an essential companion pass be found violating any conditions of entry (where they are not being used in conjunction with guest requiring support) we reserve the right to cancel the pass at anytime. You would then be required to queue at the Ticket Office on each visit, with your Nimbus card/account details, to pick up a paper ticket.
  • Annual Passes must be paid for in full at the time of purchase.
  • Height restrictions apply on all rides in the Adventure Theme Park.

Essential Companion/Carer Information

An Essential Companion Ticket allows an additional guest to enter the Park accompanying a paying guest (or annual pass holder), to assist with their visit, free of charge. They are available for guests where support is needed that is significant, substantial and in excess of what could be reasonably expected of family/friends already accompanying the guest. The support must be due to disability-related needs.

If you have an annual pass with us and have previously had free carers, you will also now need to apply for Essential Companion through Nimbus. You will be able to apply for free or you can upgrade to a full Access Card, you will need to make sure you apply with at least 10 working days notice of your next visit.

If your application is successful, you will be able to visit main Reception on your next visit and provide your Nimbus account details to our team. Once they have confirmed you have been awarded the essential companion requirement, they will be able to issue you with an essential companion annual pass, on the same tier as the guest who requires the support. Alternatively, if you struggle with walking to Main Reception, please email our team on [email protected], including your annual pass membership number, your Nimbus account details and a photo of the pass holder with the Nimbus account (this will be required for the team to create the companion pass as below).

The pass will need to have the photo and name of the guest requiring support. The pass will only be valid when using in conjunction with the named pass holder on the access card and the validity will be for the same time as the access card holders pass. You will be able to book in your visits online and will not need to collect a ticket on the day from Ticket Office.

Essential Companions must be over 12 years of age. If aged between 12-17 years, they must still be accompanying a guest over 18 years of age.

Should an essential companion pass be found violating any conditions of entry (where they are not being used in conjunction with guest requiring support) we reserve the right to cancel the pass at anytime. You would then be required to queue at the Ticket Office on each visit, with your Nimbus Card/account details, to pick up a paper ticket.

You Can Now Stay Overnight In One Of These Luxury Lion Lodges At West Midland Safari Park

We never thought we would want to spend the night with a lion nearby, but these new lodges at West Midland Safari Park are an opportunity we cannot skip.

Charlie Case

We all played sleeping lions at primary school, right? Well, not like this you haven’t. As of today ( July 7 ) West Midland Safari Park has officially opened its Lion Lodges where you can spend the night and watch the safari park’s pride of lions roam the land. This is truly wild!

There have long been several animal-themed lodges at West Midland Safari Park. Placing you up close and personal with some of nature’s wildest animals – from red pandas to cheetahs, tigers and elephants. But everyone knows that the King of the Jungle is the fearsome lion.

One of West Midlands Safari Park Lion Lodges, with a woman at the window and a lion on the otherside

These luxury lodges are designed to give you an “up-close and immersive overnight wildlife experience like no other.” There are four one-storey lodges to book, which can sleep up to six people, situated in the lions’ new habitat. Both the bedrooms and living quarters feature giant windows that provide panoramic views of the enclosure. So you don’t miss a single bit of the action and help you sleep with one eye open.

This unique experience will let eat, sleep and relax while the park’s four male lions play and explore their new home. The four brothers – all born at the attraction in the summer of 2019 – are called Havoc, Hodge, Harabi and Hercules. You’ll get to know them quite well during this unique stay. (Havoc has the darkest fur in the group!)

While you’re staying with this magnificent pride, you’ll have access to all of West Midland Safari Park’s other attractions too. This includes the Adventure Theme Park , which is full of thrilling rides; the African Walking Trail that lets you stroll up to elephants, giraffes and white rhinos; and a visit to one of the rarest big cats in the world, the Sumatran tiger in the Tiger Tropics .

Egg-citement as West Midland Safari Park celebrates its Golden Year...

west midlands safari park birmingham

Running from 1 to 16 April, guests will be invited to the Park to take part in the celebrations, which include an interactive trail, competitions, giveaways and a chance to meet the Park’s resident Easter bunny, Bramble.

Ahead of the event, Bramble has been out and about, checking out the new displays and meeting the residents, such as the rainbow lorikeets.

New for 2023 will be ‘Bramble Bunny’s Birthday Bash’ show, which will involve party games, dancing and a chance to snap a picture with Bramble at the end.

PR & Events Officer, Bethan Davis, said, “ We are so excited for this year’s event, as not only do we have a lot of fun in store for Easter, but we also get to launch the Park’s 50 th birthday celebrations too. Our resident Easter bunny has returned and this year, he has a brand new show where he will be inviting guests to a big birthday party. Guests can expect party tricks, games and even helping Bramble to make a birthday cake!

“We would love to get our guests involved with the celebrations, so we will be offering lots of chances for our guests to win some amazing prizes, such as Safari Lodges stays, annual passes, tickets, cuddly toys and of course, chocolate! We will have a scratchcard trail, competitions and we are launching a golden ticket giveaway, where guests can buy a chocolate bar which may contain a hidden golden ticket. We hope everyone has an egg-straordinary time.”

During the event, the Park will be decorated with bright and colourful Easter theming, including giant eggs, hay bales and floral displays. There is also a new 50 th anniversary living wall photo point.

Guests will have to chance to meet Bramble either at the show, or at intervals during the day, when he will be roaming the Discovery Trail.

Children can take part in an ‘Eggsplorer trail’ to locate the giant animal eggs and will earn a special chocolatey treat from Bramble’s burrow, where they can take part in some more fun, games and giveaways.

Additionally, there will be chances to win a selection of prizes by taking part in a variety of competitions such as by guessing the number of eggs, to win a Rhino Lodge stay, or finding the 50 th birthday egg, hidden somewhere in the Park, to win a family platinum annual pass.

West Midland Safari Park’s Easter activities are included in the admission charge and guests are encouraged to book online in advance for the best prices. Children under the age of three are free.

Adventure Theme Park rides are charged extra. Admission includes a Free Return to visit again within six months, only when booking online in advance.
