15 Best Travel Shows on Netflix Australia

Netflix Australia is the streaming service that just keeps on giving. While you can easily find a plethora of binge-worthy shows to watch with a press of a button, there are some that stand out more than others.

Surprisingly enough, Netflix still hasn’t created a travel section to help viewers narrow down their show search when they’re in the mood for something that will motivate them to explore the world.

This list of 15 best travel shows on Netflix Australia will make it easy for you to binge-watch travel content to your heart’s content, whether it be via food inspiration, fantasy style, or anything in between.

The choice is yours! Scroll down for more.

Table of Contents

1. Jack Whitehall

Since the series premiered in 2017, Jack Whitehall: Travels with My Father has been a nonstop hit that provides its viewers with beautiful views, family drama, and good old-fashioned humor.

The British comedy follows stand-up comedian Jack and his rather serious father, Michael, on a long-lasting trip across various countries where the two get to experience new things together.

What gives this show life, aside from the amazing places you get to see, is the complicated relationship between father and son who were never close when Jack was growing up. Part of this was because his father was already nearing the age of fifty by the time Jack was born – and this drastic age difference adds to the amusement throughout the series.

As the two travel across the continents, it becomes a constant battle about where they’ll be staying, what they’ll be doing, and especially what types of food they’ll be eating. Michael, being much older, is very set in his ways and has no interest in trying new things whereas Jack wants to try as many new things as possible.

These contrasting viewpoints make for some pretty hysterical scenes, but you will find that other scenes will pull on your heartstrings as the two build a better relationship in the process.

You’ll get to travel with them as they explore breathtaking places throughout Australia, the United States, Europe, and Asia while also fully immersing themselves in the areas’ cultures.

2. Street Food

Based on this series’ not-so-subtle name, you can already guess the premise of Street Food – but the show actually has so much more to offer along its journeys. The series takes you to all parts of the world, many of which struggle from some type of poverty, and lets you explore some of the amazing food opportunities that await you there.

This show is bound to get your stomach rumbling and your mouth watering as you watch street food vendors from around the globe do what they do best.

After you get to watch the cooking process, the series spends time focusing on the finished product, which is almost always displayed in a breathtaking fashion.

What makes this series stand out in comparison to the many other traveling food shows is the time it dedicates to teach the audience about the local people and their traditions. You’ll not only admire the work of the chef but you’ll learn about the chef him/herself and the story of how they got to where they are today and the dedication it took to master their craft.

Many of the stories you’ll hear are saddening, but being able to see how the chefs turned their life around is an amazing experience and adds to the beauty of the meals they create.

3. Breakfast, Lun ch, & Dinner

Another food-based Netflix favorite is Breakfast, Lunch, & Dinner . This show gained its popularity through its blend of celebrity guest appearances, exciting travel destinations, and delicious food.

Known primarily for the iconic Ugly Deliciousness series, David Chang takes a different approach with this series as he covers a large variety of bases in every episode.

You’ll spend time admiring the food of the local people, exploring beautiful places around the world, and learning more about popular celebrities through the use of small talk.

Chang wanted to win over his audience right away – and what better way to do it than to invite famous comedian, Seth Rogan, as his first guest appearance while exploring Canada.

Every place tv host Chang visits is a new adventure – and he makes sure to try a local dish for breakfast, lunch, and dinner just like the title of the series suggests.

Just keep in mind that although the series’ name gives you the idea that its main premise is on food, casual conversation with celebrities definitely takes up most of the screen time.

You’ll still get to see beautiful places from around the world and some tasty meals along the way, but at the end of the day, this is more of a hangout show than anything else.

4. Conan Without Borders

Speaking of celebrities traveling the world, it doesn’t get much better than Conan Without Borders where this famous comedian takes you on an adventure filled with laughs, local culture, unique destinations, and so much more.

For those of you who are familiar with Conan, you know that he has a way of making fun of things without coming off as rude – and that talent is relevant to the series.

He visits parts of the world like Korea, Haiti, Italy, and Mexico while making jokes that are more focused on his lack of understanding than an attempt to insult the culture of a foreign place.

This clever technique makes his show unlike any other travel show on Netflix – and guarantees that you’ll always have a good time when watching.

Plus, what makes the show even better, is that Conan dedicates screentime to more serious matters – like the struggles people are facing in third world countries – to teach the audience about major issues. You’ll meet a plethora of new people with every episode as Conan speaks with the locals to learn more about the area, culture, food, and more.

Be prepared to laugh your head off and possibly shed a few tears as you travel the world with Conan and see places through his eyes.

5. Dark Tourist

Although controversial, there’s no denying that the Dark Tourist series will take you to places you’ve never been before and introduce you to a world you may not have known existed.

Tv host David Farrier deserves some credit for the bravery it took to travel to such dangerous parts of the world, but many viewers felt like he was attempting to copy the works of Louis Theroux. If you’re familiar with Louis Theroux and enjoy his work, you’ll definitely get a kick out of Farrier’s similar style – but may feel that Theroux was slighted in some way.

Regardless, the series will keep you on the edge of your seat as Farrier winds up in some pretty dangerous situations in rough areas all around the globe.

As you explore places never shown on television before, you’ll learn some harsh truths about the major struggles that other countries are facing and just how extreme they can get.

For example, one episode takes you deep into India where a known sex trafficking operation is taking place. Here, Farrier speaks with both the traffickers and the civilians to get a sense of what is going on.

This is definitely not a show for the lighthearted and can be pretty devastating to watch at times as you learn about some of the unfortunate events that are taking place in the world – but it’s also a good way to stay informed about the world around you.

6. Somebody Feed Phil

Known for his contributions to the creation of Everybody Loves Raymond , Phil Rosenthal is a simple man trying to widen his horizons by trying cuisine from around the world – and he’s taking you along for the ride.

Phil is a pretty funny guy, and it shows in the series as he travels to new countries and tries dishes he never would have thought existed.

Phil grew up as a Jewish New Yorker and emphasizes how, because of this, he didn’t get to try many styles of food growing up – which is why he’s so eager to try as many new things as possible now that he’s older.

This is what adds to his appeal as he is a more relatable food series host than most because he isn’t a master chef or food expert. He is simply an average guy trying new things in new places and telling you how he feels about them.

So be prepared to find yourself loving every second of his series as you get to experience the world through his eyes and his tastebuds on an endless adventure that only keeps getting better.

7. Restaurants on the Edge

Keeping with the theme of travel shows that’s main focus revolves around food, Restaurants on the Edge lands a spot as one of the best because of its interesting style and light-hearted approach.

Unlike other restaurant renovation shows, there aren’t any aggressive interactions or stress-filled encounters but it is instead filled with understanding conversations and uplifting moments.

Although you won’t be watching a drama that keeps you on the edge of your seat, you will get to be a part of something wonderful as you travel to beautiful new destinations.

Three hosts take on different roles based on their expertise to help transform restaurants into thriving businesses, with Dennis Prescott as the chef, Nick Liberato as the restaurant guru, and Karin Bohn as the interior designer.

Although the series is focused on restaurants, there’s an abundance of beautiful clips taken by drones as they circle around towering mountains, flowing rivers, and breathtaking vistas all around the globe.

The problems with the restaurants, big and small, are looked at for only a moment with a clear focus on the ways things can be improved to create a successful business.

This kindhearted approach is part of the reason fans have fallen in love with the show as well as that satisfying feeling of watching a local restaurant owner’s dream come true right before their eyes.

8. Larry Charles’s Dangerous World of Comedy

You can thank Lary Charles’ creative brain for the unique creation of Larry Charles’ Dangerous World of Comedy where you get to explore the world with a focus on something other than food.

Larry Charles dedicates this show completely to the comedic world and travels around the globe to learn how comedy differs in different areas and the impact it has on the community.

He doesn’t stop there. While learning about the comedic aspects of the world, he also dives deep into some of the many major issues that countries face to inform his audience of the bigger picture.

Watch as he travels into some pretty dangerous locations, like active warzones, where he speaks with the soldiers and civilians alike to understand their troubles and how comedy plays a role in their life.

He also attends a variety of authentic stand-up comedy shows in different countries, which gives the audience some insight into its many differences compared to the typical work you see in the United States.

It is amazing to be able to hear some of the jokes being told, as they’re relevant to the area and provide the audience a break every once in a while from the rather serious segments of the show.

9. Instant Hotel

Combining two of the world’s favorite things, Airbnbs and reality tv shows, Instant Hotel was an immediate success on Netflix Australia – and the competition is real.

The basis of the show is to create a nail-biting competition between Airbnb hosts throughout Australia, which will ultimately end with one competitor claiming the title as the best in the country and winning a grand prize of $100,000.

The creators of the show do a wonderful job picking competitive contestants that are willing to do anything to win and are happy to criticize others without a second thought.

The interactions between these interesting people are what really makes the show – but there’s no denying that seeing some of their beautiful rentals will have you searching on Airbnb for your next vacation.

Bask in the drama as contestants visit each other’s Airbnbs and provide ratings for location, nearby attractions, comfort, interior design, quality, and more, which will ultimately provide an impact on the judges’ overall scores.

If you love I nstant Hotel ’s action-filled first season, you’ll love the second even more – as the show tackles a smaller set of contestants to really put the pressure on their eye-catching vacation rentals.

10. Stateless

Prepare for a whirlwind of emotions as Stateless takes you along for a journey through Australia’s detention camps. The fact that it is based on true events is shockingly disturbing.

Created as an informative series, Stateless jumps between the viewpoints of four very different characters but the message remains the same. What’s happening here is not okay.

The first person you meet is a woman named Sofie whose story follows that of Cornelia Rau, a person who was held captive in an Australian detention center for 10 months in 2004 – and you’ll learn about her life after imprisonment.

Next up is Ameer who is used as a symbol for the thousands of men who suffered a similar fate in such camps. You get to travel with him from his home in Afghanistan on a trip to Pakistan that ultimately leads him here.

The other two characters, Claire and Cam, are on the other side of the spectrum and give insight into what it was like to work in such camps and keep things under wraps.

Overall, it is a moving series that emphasizes the severity of the detention camps in Australia in hopes to stop their heinous acts and gives an audience an idea of what is really going on behind closed doors.

11. Sweet Tooth

To be fair, the storyline behind this quickly growing series is nothing more than fiction – but that doesn’t make the desire to travel to unknown places any less potent as you travel around a post-apocalyptic world.

This a fantasy series that you won’t be able to take your eyes off of, and it’s not just because of the new era of children who are born with antlers or scaled skin.

To put it plainly, something in the air has caused all new babies to be born as hybrids with a variety of different animal species – and because of this, havoc breaks loose.

War breaks out, and the hybrid children that remain are forced into hiding where they must spend the rest of their days. That is until Sweet Tooth’s father passes away and he can’t help but hit the road to see the world.

Sweet Tooth is a nice boy who just so happened to be born with some deer-like characteristics – and this makes exploring the world a very dangerous task.

Luckily, he runs into a villain turned soft (by Sweet Tooth’s boy-like charm) who serves as his protector as they head out to explore unknown lands and travel around the country in this strange new world.

You will be on the edge of your seat as they encounter dangerous situations and locals willing to help throughout their journey through deep forests and abandoned cities.

12. The Worlds Most Amazing Vacation Rentals

As the name suggests, The Worlds Most Amazing Vacation Rentals takes you around the globe as three very different hosts show you some of the coolest places to stay with a combination of luxury, affordability, and unique style.

They travel all around the world, and each episode is located in a completely different country. You’ll get to experience three different kinds of vacation rentals picked specifically by the hosts themselves.

Ortiz is the host that will take you to some of the most luxurious accommodations, whereas Batoon will take you to an affordable place without lacking quality. Franco will find the most unique place the area has to offer.

All of the members involved in the production of the show do a wonderful job portraying both the vacation rentals and the surrounding area through the use of natural lighting, interesting angles, and the help of a drone.

Although you won’t learn much about the local culture or the attractions in the area, it will definitely have you interested in checking out these beautiful locations for the scenery and accommodations alone.

What makes this show stand out is its ability to reach a large variety of audiences as you get to experience a luxurious side and an affordable side of every place they visit.

13. Paul Hollywood’s Big Continental Road Trip

Another unique travel show gem is undoubtedly Paul Hollywood’s Big Continental Road Trip , as it shifts gears from the typical style and focuses almost entirely on antique cars.

There is no lack of passion as Paul Hollywood shares his irrefutable love for cars of all makes, models, and years as he opens the show with a background on how this obsession came to pass and the impact it had on his childhood.

Seeing the sense of pure happiness that Paul has with every antique beauty he finds along the way makes the show all that much more enjoyable.

It only makes sense that the first season takes place in Europe, where love for cars has always been apparent and celebrated unlike any other place in the world.

You’ll get to explore many beautiful cities and countrysides throughout Germany, Italy, and France as Paul meets up with some proud antique car owners to get up close and personal with some one of a kind automobiles.

Of course, stops are made long the way while in Italy to some of the original car dealerships of iconic companies, like Ferrari, where you get to experience the fast-paced thrill of driving 120 MPH on an open road.

Even though the series is focused on stunning vehicles, you get to see many of the countries’ popular attractions along the way as Paul drives by them in a new kind of vehicle every time.

14. Magical Land of Oz

There’s so much to learn about Australia’s diverse wildlife population, and the Magical Land of Oz is here to teach you just that. The 3-part documentary series dives deep into the varying ecosystems that make up Australia while also teaching its audience about the impact humans have on the environment.

The first episode explores some of the many animals and plants that live on Australia’s mainland, whereas the second episode focuses entirely on life by the water. The third episode is all about the way we affect it all.

What the series lacks in the narration it makes up for in the unique way it portrays the country’s rare species, and viewers are left amazed by the interesting creatures they never even knew existed.

You won’t finish this series and become an expert on Australian wildlife, but you will get pretty darn close, as it manages to provide a plethora of information in such a short span of time.

At the end of the day, the series should be used as a model for other countries as it describes how Australia is one of the few places where extensive pieces of land are dedicated solely to its wildlife and restrict human interaction almost entirely.

15. Flavorful Origins

The beauty of Flavorful Origins is the way it represents the unfamiliar cuisine of China and leaves you questioning the Americanized version of Chinese food many people know and love.

Originally filmed in Mandarin, the translated voiceover is not the clearest – but with the insanely detailed shots of decadent foods, it doesn’t have to be.

All of your attention is focused on the natural ingredients as the camera zooms in to give you a close up of how fresh and tasty every part of a meal can be.

The show is focused entirely on the Chaoshan region of China, which many people have never even heard of, and this adds to the curiosity to learn more about the cuisine here.

You’ll find your mouth watering as you admire the carefully created dishes made up of seafood and vegetables and the process it takes to make them.

Another interesting aspect is that each episode is no more than fifteen minutes long – so it’s incredibly easy to binge-watch or squeeze into a busy schedule. Just make sure to eat something before you start watching or your stomach will be screaming at you for food within seconds of its opening scene. Talk about a foodie’s dream!

5 travel shows to get inspiration for your next big holiday

This time last year I was sipping fishbowl gin and tonics in Ibiza (well… maybe not sipping). Unfortunately, much has changed since then, and our world and way of life is unlike anything our generation has experienced.

Among many other things, international travel looks like it will be out of the picture for the foreseeable future.

RELATED: How Race Across The World works

Since that trip, I've been on the lookout for the next big overseas holiday I want to put on my bucket list. And during lockdown these travel shows have been the pick of the bunch for inspiration for when we are able to travel again. Some are simply great armchair entertainment.

Race Across the World (Season 1)

Race Across the World is unlike any reality travel show you ever seen before. It has similarities to The Amazing Race , where couples travel around and need to make their way through checkpoints fastest, or run the risk of being eliminated. Checkpoints in Season 1 include places you may not have heard of, including: Delphi (Greece), Baku (Azerbaijan), Tashkent (Uzbekistan), Huangyao (China), Koh Rong (Cambodia) and Marina Bay (Singapore).

The big twist with Race Across the World is the teams of two need to find a way to get from London to Singapore without catching a single flight. They are only given a purse with money the equivalent amount to a one-way airfare to Singapore, and that's it. They don't even get mobile phones to help them navigate.

funny travel show australia

Along the way teams need to be conscious of their budget, resulting in the occasional detour to complete jobs in order to boost their funds. This detour also gives the teams time to focus on the experiences between checkpoints and appreciate different cultures.

Race Across the World is raw, different and extremely addictive. Watch the trailer in the above video.

Stream Season 1 of Race Across the World for free on 9Now.

Top Gear: India Special

You're probably thinking, ' Top Gear ? Isn't that a car review show?' Jeremy Clarkson, James May and Richard Hammond have taken the program abroad many times, travelling through countries on modes of transport that may not be designed for that adventure, such as their Patagonian Special in super-powered cars whilst travelling through South America.

In Top Gear: India Special (currently streaming on Stan) the team embarks on a "trade mission" (purely satirical) to help boost the British economy and trade relations with India — all while driving second hand British cars.

In one example they put themselves in the shoes of Dabbawalas, a group of people who deliver food tins between homes and offices.

The trio used their cars to deliver the lunchboxes/tins whilst trying to navigate through the busy streets on Mumbai, a task that is normally performed via train in India.

The tone of these travel specials is always comical while also showcasing different cultures and the amazing countries they are exploring.

Top Gear: India Special is streaming now on Stan.

Travel Guides

Narrated by Australian comedian Denise Scott, Travel Guides series consists of five very different families and friends, all with different ideas of what a holiday should look like, as they partake in the same activities from selected tourist spots from around the world.

In Season 3 the guides headed off to Israel, a country filled with amazing ancient ruins and spectacular beaches.

One key location the guides visited was The Dead Sea, known for its "healing mud" and for being "ten times saltier than the ocean, meaning it's impossible to sink".

Travel Guides is all about trying something new, with a laugh.

Hamish & Andy's Perfect Holiday

If you're after some more laughs with a bit of culture, why not armchair travel with Hamish Blake and Andy Lee. The pair is very well known for their different take on travelling with their hit series Hamish & Andy's Gap Year (streaming on Stan), but their latest travel series Hamish & Andy's "Perfect" Holiday takes trying out new things to another level.

In "Perfect" Holiday the pair plan each other's "perfect" holiday activities without the other knowing. In Episode 1 Andy surprises Hamish by enrolling him in a boxing match. However the opponent was not your average boxer, rather the world's hottest chilli .

Dark Tourist

Finally, if your taste in travel is a bit more unusual, check out Dark Tourist on Netflix. The program follows David Farrier, who explores dark tourism, which he says is "a global phenomenon where people choose to vacation in places associated with death and destruction".

In March 2011 the world was in shock after one of the worst nuclear disasters to ever occur happened in Japan. An earthquake-turned-tsunami hit the region, which caused destruction and a nuclear leak at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant.

funny travel show australia

As David Farrier outlines in one of the episodes, the area is now a dark tourism hotspot, for those few brave adventurers wanting to get a glimpse of the highly radioactive location. During his radiation vacation, David's tour group noticed that the radiation levels were even higher than that of Pripyat (Chernobyl).

Dark Tourist airs on Netflix.

9 Travel Shows That Will Take You On An Exciting Adventure From Your Couch

Best travel Shows to stream

Where to Stream:

Whether you’ve got no travel plans for the summer, or just need a little inspiration on where to visit, we’ve got quite the guide for you. Throw out that Frommer’s Travel Guide, and trust these shows for tips on where to go, what to see, and of course, what to eat.

We’ve combed through a wide variety of streaming platforms to give you a fun handful of shows that will make you laugh, cry, and broaden your horizons with every episode. From foodies to funny men, let these guys travel to every crevasse of the Earth while you sit back and relax at home.

Of course we’ve got Anthony Bourdain in the mix, he’s kind of the travel master at this point. But we’ve also found the guys that use magic and kindness and comedy to meet strangers and immerse themselves in new cultures. Sorry comfort zone, you’re getting left at home this time!

While the travel show genre is in MAJOR need of a female host (call me, my passport is up to date and I’ll eat weird snacks!), we’re happy to live vicariously through these dudes as they climb, rickshaw, and fly from country to country, tasting animals, plants and other mysterious foods with their new international friends. Fasten your seat belts and get ready for your next binge-watching adventure.

'Travel Man'

If you like your travel shows witty, cynical, and utterly amusing, say hello to your new travel companion , Richard Ayoade. The IT Crowd star is joined by a famous pal for each episode where they take in all the weird and wonderful sights a city has to offer. Ayoade remains unimpressed yet hilarious both on-screen and in his voiceovers as he tastes local cuisines, questions popular activities and shrugs off magnificent views. A snow globe incident in the Vienna episode with pal Chris O’Dowd, crowding into a bathroom with Paul Rudd in Helsinki with Paul Rudd, and his epic reaction to tasting a cronut with comedian Katherine Ryan in New York City serve as highlights of the series, which is available on Sundance Now.

'The Road Trick'

In The Road Trick , magician Adam Trent sets out across the globe with the mission of bringing strangers together through magic. Ta-da: it works! From cab drivers to pretty girls, no one is safe from his tricks. He dazzles, he gets himself in trouble, and then it makes it all better again with his special skills. The series, available on Red Bull TV, isn’t afraid to interact with the true locals and the real residents of the locales he visits. Trent isn’t interested in seeing the sights, he wants to see the secrets and the places camera crews rarely venture to. The show is interesting as it is, but come on, watching people react to magic is always super fun.

Where to watch The Road Trick

'An Idiot Abroad'

A classic! Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant had the idea to send their pal Karl Pilkington, a man who loves nothing more than staying home in his comfort zone, out into the world. It’s one of the funniest travel shows you’ll ever watch, and you can try your hardest not to, but you’ll still learn something. And honestly? You’ll find yourself relating to Karl more than you ever imagined.

Where to watch An Idiot Abroad

'The Moaning of Life'

Can’t get enough Karl? Who can! He’s back at it again, taking a voyage around the globe to find the meaning to life’s biggest questions. Quite the task for anyone, but especially a man as set in his ways as Karl. Ricky and Stephen aren’t around to pull his strings this time, but you’ll still have fun diving into unique cultures, but be prepared to leave with more questions than you entered with, is all.

Where to watch The Moaning of Life

'Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown'

You can’t have a list of travel shows and forget the most famous international foodie there is. Anthony Bourdain does an excellent job of eating as many unappetizing, totally weird dishes, as he does munching on food that looks so delicious it will make you drool on your keyboard as you book your flight to that destination. He’s the master of making friends through food on every inch of this planet, as he’s done for 8 whole seasons. Get ready for an insightful binge, but just know popcorn won’t cut it as your snack of choice when it comes to this adventure show.

Where to watch Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown

'Tales By Light'

If you want one of those immersive travel shows that will make you feel like you’re swimming amongst the sea life from the comfort of your couch, this is the one for you. Tales By Light will take you to the top of volcanoes, the bottom of the ocean, and some of the most magnificent places on the planet in between — places that many of us will never be lucky enough to visit in our lifetimes. The show looks gorgeous and has a soothing yet wondrous feel to it, as it follows the photographers who capture these locales, only for us to hit the like button as we browse through Instagram. Your eyeballs will 100% witness something they’ve never seen before in this show, and it’s a great watch for the whole family.

Where to watch Tales By Light

'The Kindness Diaries'

Do you prefer your travel show makes you cry? Then you will be thrilled with The Kindness Diaries . Host Leon Logothetis travels around the world, basically using kindness in place of money. He gains access to his adventures based simply on nice, thoughtful, polite strangers all over the globe. This is one of those shows you’ll binge over and over when you need a reminder that there is good in the world, and all over the world.

Where to watch The Kindness Diaries

'Rock The Park'

Looking for inspiration for a road trip this summer? Check out Rock The Park , a look at the national parks of the US. That means these gorgeous escapes are right in your own backyard! You don’t have to be quite as adventurous as the bros on this show, but it does give you an idea of what you can explore all within a tank (or two) of gas.

Where to watch Rock The Park

'Hidden America with Jonah Ray'

Are you just now realizing you actually don’t really like travel shows and find them a bit annoying? Then you might like Hidden America with Jonah Ray .  It’s a silly spoof travel show (ok, so yes, still a travel show) that turns your average episode of this genre right on it’s head and adds and extra dose of bizarre to it all. Ray is on a mission to take a much less glamorous look at towns across the country, which also serves as a setup for many ridiculous jokes. Season two of the comedy just landed on Seeso and is available to watch on your next plane ride.

20 best australian tv shows on us netflix.

Discover some of the best Australian shows on Netflix, from comedies to dramas, even to children's programming and documentary series.

  • Australia's TV programs on Netflix are high-quality and gaining international success despite not being intended for a global audience.
  • The Australian shows on Netflix range from comedic mockumentaries to family-friendly fantasies and animated adventures.
  • Netflix offers a diverse selection of Australian shows, including dramas, mysteries, teen series, and documentaries, catering to a wide range of tastes and interests.

Australia might be on the other side of the world, but thanks to Netflix , their top-notch TV programs are finding their way into homes everywhere and dazzling audiences from across the globe. Oz might not be known for cranking out worldwide entertainment, but what they lack in quantity, they more than make up for in quality. Many of the modest-budget productions listed below were never intended for a worldwide audience, but their unique storylines, refreshingly honest humor, and nail-biting dramas have made them all an international success.

Because of the way Netflix works, TV shows do come and go from the platform on a regular basis. While Netflix used to host a lot of Australian dramas and mysteries, the bulk of the Australian shows on the platform these days are family-friendly favorites. Here are the best Australian TV shows on Netflix.

Lunatics (2019)

Chris Lilley in a blonde wig and surrounded by stuffed animals in Lunatics

Fronted by Australian comedian Chris Lilley, Lunatics isn’t for everyone, but it’s one of the most intriguing and underrated comedies on Netflix . Lilley is known for stirring up controversy and using a mockumentary style to allow himself to play multiple characters.

In Lunatics , Lilley takes on six roles that all have their own eccentricities and are very different from one another, allowing him to show off his performance skills. The downside to Lilley’s gifted performances here is that the characterizations of many of those roles are easily labeled as problematic. Lunatics is certainly a show to watch with a critical eye.

The New Legends Of Monkey (2018-)

Jayden Daniels, Emilie Cocquerel, Chai Hansen, Josh Thomson, Luciane Buchanan in The New Legends Of Monkey

The legend of the Monkey King has been adapted for a lot of different media, but The New Legends of Monkey is actually a remake of a Japanese series from the 1970s. The series sees a monk go on a journey to find sacred scrolls with Monkey and a pair of other ancient gods that the population has largely forgotten about.

While the series is billed as a family-friendly fantasy (and has been nominated for children’s programming awards in New Zealand and Australia), it’s got darker moments and violence that young audience members might not be ready for. The fantasy series is a creative take on a classic hero’s journey, and will definitely call to mind fantasy shows like Xena Warrior Princess , Hercules , or Beastmaster , all also filmed in New Zealand and based on myths that were given fresh takes.

The Deep (2015-)

Four people looking at a container with a rare fish in the animated series The Deep

This animated series is a joint venture between a Canadian and Australian broadcasting company with streaming access given to Netflix. It follows a family who are descendants of an ocean-dwelling people who set out to solve the mysteries of the deepest parts of the ocean. The Deep draws on some real-life oceanic creatures and events to create a compelling adventure for all ages to enjoy.

Unfortunately, Netflix only has access to one batch of episodes of The Deep at a time. Right now, the streamer only has season 3 available to stream, which is right in the middle of the larger narrative arc. Despite only having part of the story available, The Deep is still one of the best Australian animated series on Netflix.

The Unlisted (2019-)

Teenagers on the run in the Australian series The Unlisted

Like many of the best Australian series on Netflix, The Unlisted is aimed at a young audience, specifically teens. The series follows a group of teenagers who uncover a conspiracy in which a government organization seeks to control teenagers.

It’s not unlike the American movie Disturbing Behavior , though a bit lighter in tone. Teens who haven’t found themselves implanted with a tracker that allows their movements to be controlled call themselves “the unlisted” and work to expose what’s really happening to the world. The series focuses on twin Indian-Australian boys (played by Ved and Vrund Rao) and slowly expands to their circle of allies which even includes a gamer who is a well-known streamer, putting the anonymity of the group in danger.

The Bureau Of Magical Things (2018-2021)

Kyra Glen and Imogen Blackwell in The Bureau of Magical Things

Producer and writer Jonathan M. Shiff has a knack for Australian children’s television in that the shows he creates often don’t just appeal to kids. While they contain fantasy elements like mermaids or, in this case, fairies, the shows are always grounded in very real problems for the teens and their families at the center of the story. Shiff is the mind behind such Australian gems as Ocean Girl , H2O: Just Add Water , and Lightning Point , among others.

The latest venture from Shiff is The Bureau of Magical Things , taking the stories slightly away from the beach and leaning more toward urban fantasy. The human and magical worlds coexist, but magical creatures are an endangered species that work to keep themselves secret. When a human young woman stumbles on a magical book, she gets a crash course in all things magic.

The Letdown (2016-2019)

Audrey sits in a pile of toys while her toddler colors on the wall in The Letdown

A comedy about being a new mom, The Letdown is definitely one of the best Australian shows on Netflix. It stars Alison Bell as Audrey, a new mom who joins a support group when she finds herself struggling to adjust to a new baby more than she thought she would. While the series is firmly a comedy, it also has frank discussions about motherhood, pregnancy, and abortion.

In addition to starring in the series, Bell also co-created the show and co-wrote the show with Sarah Sheller. The duo also directed an episode in season 2. The series won Best Comedy at the Australian Academy of Television Arts Awards for its first season, and the pilot episode even won Best Screenplay.

Izzy’s Koala World (2020-)

A woman and young girl check the heartbeat of a Koala in Izzy's Koala World

Children’s scripted series and comedies aren’t the only Australian shows Netflix has to offer. There are also reality TV programs and docuseries. For reality TV fans who don’t want the soapy aspects of a dating show, or maybe want something they can watch with the entire family, there is this docuseries.

The series follows young Izzy Bee and her family who live on an island just off the coast of Queensland, Australia, and run a clinic out of their home. The clinic specializes in caring for injured or ill koalas. Several of the same koalas are spotlighted throughout the series, so the audience gets the full picture of just how much work goes into helping to get the wild animals back on track. With Australia having such unique wildlife compared to the rest of the world, koalas are a fun animal to watch.

Heartbreak High (1994-1999), (2022)

A blended image features Amerie and Harper in Heartbreak High

Heartbreak High was originally a dramatic series centered on the goings-on at one high school that ran in the 1990s. It’s a lot like Australia’s version of the Canadian series Degrassi which began as one series, then spun out into a sequel series later. Heartbreak High actually spun out of the movie The Heartbreak Kid.

In 2022, Netflix began a modern reboot of the series. The series, again, follows the students and teachers at Hartley High, just with more modern takes on the dramedy that ensues in the high school setting. Both series are available on Netflix and both are certainly worth the watch.

The InBESTigators (2019)

Four kids behind an office desk, one of whom holds a magnifying glass, in The Inbestigators

This recent Australian television show follows a group of grade five children as they investigate mysteries in their neighborhood. This comedy mockumentary comprises two seasons, both of which can be found on Netflix now.

The group is led by the observant Maudie and works well together as a team to try to solve various mysteries during each new episode. It's a fun family-friendly series that is similar to a detective series but isn't as gritty as other crime shows on Netflix .

Stateless (2020)

Yvonne Strahovski in Stateless on Netflix

Stateless is a miniseries added to U.S. Netflix a few months after its initial release in Australia. The series follows characters stuck in an immigration detention center. Starring Yvonne Strahovski, Cate Blanchett, and Jai Courtney, the compelling drama is available to stream exclusively on Netflix.

The main characters that are the center of the series include a cult escapee, a refugee, an office worker, and a bureaucrat who all have different experiences in the detention center but all of their lives intertwine throughout the 6 episodes.

H2O: Just Add Water (2006-2010)

Claire Holt, Phoebe Tonkin, and Cariba Heine as mermaids with their hands raised in H2O: Just Add Water

H2O: Just Add Water is a fun and family-friendly series that follows three teenage Australian girls trying to go to high school and try to keep their secret that they're all mermaids from their classmates. The three friends have a difficult time keeping their secret, especially from bullies at their school, but they try their best to live normal lives at school and use their powers to help sea creatures whenever they're in need.

This Australian series saw international success on Nickelodeon before moving to the Netflix lineup, and it's got two spinoffs on the streamer: the live-action Mako Mermaids as well as an animated series set in the same world.

Glitch (2015-2019)

James and Charloe helping Kirstie, who has blood dripping from her eyes, in Glitch.

Glitch is an Australian TV show set in the small (fictional) town of Yoorana, where seven individuals literally rise from their graves after having been dead for years. When a local policeman realizes that their formerly dead wife is one of the "risen," he is determined to discover how and why they have returned, even at the risk of his own life.

The storyline is very similar to The Returned, but the truth behind Glitch lies more in science and less in the supernatural. Either way, it's sufficiently creepy enough to keep viewers hooked.

Tidelands (2018)

Two women on a path among trees in Tidelands

Tidelands was originally an eight-part Australian web television series that was released by Netflix at the end of 2018. The story follows Calliope "Cal" McTeer, a former criminal who returns home to the small fishing village of Orphelin Bay.

After a body of a local fisherman turns up on the beach, Cal starts investigating the town's strange inhabitants, a group of dangerous half-sirens, half-humans called "Tidelanders." What kind of secrets is this little town harboring? Watch and find out. Those who enjoy different takes on siren and mermaid mythology will find this series interesting.

Wentworth (2013-2021)

Cast of guards and prisoners on Netflix Australian show Wentworth

Wentworth is a contemporary reimagining of Prisoner, an Australian soap opera (from 1979-1986) that was set in Wentworth Detention Center, a fictional women's prison. The series is a modern-day take on inmate Bea Smith's early days in prison and her unexpected rise to the top of the prison's hierarchy ( similar to Orange Is the New Black ).

The show was an instant success, with the first episode becoming the most-watched Australian drama series premiere in Foxtel history. Before the Australian series was acquired by Netflix, the series was picked up by several countries and was retitled Wentworth Prison.

Secret City (2016-2019)

Poppy Montgomery with files and newspaper clippings around her in a promotional image for Secret City

Fans of House of Cards are sure to enjoy Secret City, an Australian political thriller that's chock-full of secrets, lies, murder, and betrayal. For all the bookworms out there, the series is based on the best-selling novels The Marmalade Files and The Mandarin Code by Chris Uhlmann and Steve Lewis.

The Australian series was released on Netflix just a few years ago, and a sequel to the series (and a departure from the books) called Secret City: Under the Eagle was released on Netflix on March 6, 2019, wrapping up the Australian series in epic fashion.

Surviving Summer (2022-)

A split image features the five main Surviving Summer characters Marlon, Poppy, Summer, Bodhi, and Ari

Surviving Summer is one of the best new Australian television shows currently on Netflix. The teen drama, consisting of ten episodes, depicts a young girl named Summer who must grow accustomed to her new environment in Victoria, Australia, where she quickly falls in love with the people she meets along the way.

Throughout the first two seasons of the show, Summer learns to surf and compete alongside her friends, who want to make it to the professional circuit. The show balances teen drama and the high performance of an elite sport in a truly entertaining way. Season 2 of Surviving Summer adds a few new characters to the mix as well, shaking up the dynamic established in the first season.

Travel TV – Some Funny Travel Television Shows

Anthony Bianco - The Travel Tart

Check out my Funny Travel Shows list!

Travel TV seems to be littered with a heap of (lucky) hosts scoring junkets to all ends of the Earth.  Mind you, some of them stay in places that cost the entire Gross Domestic Product of a Pacific Island nation per night, which is totally unrealistic for most backpackers on a tight budget.

But there are a few out  Funny Travel TV shows out there that are worth watching for a good chuckle if you can get your hands on the footage.

Here are a few of my favourites:

Some Funny Travel TV Shows

Gerhard Reinke’s Wanderlust

Gerhard is a piss your pants funny ‘German’ with a great sense of humour and irony.  Wanderlust is a fictional TV show, and Gerhard travels around the world and makes fun of himself, and many of the places he visits.

Travel Tv - Funny Travel Television Shows

This show was produced for Comedy Central and became a cult classic.  Check out some Gerhard’s his travel tips!

Race Around The World

This was a series aired in Australia in the late 1990s.  Contestants were selected to travel around the world to video their journeys, and then they would send their videos home to be edited and aired on the show.  The main reason this show was funny was for one person –  John Safran .  John has done a number of Funny Television TV shows since, such as  John Safran vs God (imagine this: him knocking on the door of Mormons in Utah telling people how good Atheism is..).

He is as mad as a cut snake but made his name in this series.  He’s placed curses on his ex-girlfriend in Africa, been baptized in a river full of bilharzia, and in this video, he goes to Israel and tries to help is football team win by inserting prayers into the wailing wall.  He then tries to retrieve a football he’s kicked into Lebanon, and does a nude run down in Jerusalem.  That’s what made the show!

The Amazing Race

Sorry, I can’t take The Amazing Race seriously (check out a previous post I did about  The Amazing Race – If Everyone Travelled Like Their Contestants ).

Man vs Wild

Man vs Wild seems to be a fusion of an insane person ( Bear Grylls ) taking Adventure Travel to a whole new level.  Some of the things he does for survival include eating raw insects, sleeping inside a camel carcass to escape a sand storm, and ingesting carcass maggots.  Hilarious.

Check out some footage of him eating some larvae.

Francescos Mediterranean Voyage

Many of the shots are of him in this series getting pissed with the locals, followed by the following morning’s hungover footage.  Actually, Francesco is an affable character and he gets stuck into doing anything as a cultural excuse, such as Turkish Wrestling whilst being covered in olive oil.

Anyway, if you like your Wandlerlust with a Laugh, check out some of these  Funny Travel TV Shows !

Oh no Getaway!!! Quality show that is!!! 😛

I’ve gotta say Bear Grylls what a champ i love that guy!!! Even though i know every episode is the same but just eating a bug in a different location i still would religiously watch it!!! Oh if only i could watch it in China so sad 🙁

Avatar Of Anthony

You might be eating the same things Bear Grylls does at some of those markets in China? ;-P

Avatar Of Thomas

Bear Grylls really is as crazy as his name suggests. In one episode he bit into the raw carcass of a Deer like a wild animal. I’m not sure I could sleep inside a dead Camel if my life depended on it! .-= Thomas´s last blog ..What Are the Benefits of Running Barefoot? =-.

That’s what makes him so funny!

Avatar Of Beth

You just boosted my confidence. I had almost dropped the idea of my new project which is very similar. Nice to see that others see it the same way.

Avatar Of Eurobeeno

Gerhard Reinke – where can I see more of those insightful tips – funny blooming hilarious. If it don’t fit in the pack – – put it back – invaluable. .-= EuroBeeno´s last blog ..Bangkok, Thailand =-.

Avatar Of Jonathan White

Race around the world was entertaining for one series. It was won of the first almost reality television shows. Some of the episodes were very funny, though some were just silly. .-= Jonathan White´s last blog ..Explore The Heart Of New Mexico =-.

Avatar Of Alicia True Blood

I envy Justine Shapiro of Globe Trekker. She gets to travel so many places on earth. And the hosts of the luxury lifestyle travel shows live the life and travel the way we can only dream of. sigh…

The Best Travel Shows Of All Time (TV, Netflix, Amazon Prime & More)

If you are like me and always yearning to travel, then one of the best ways to do this from home is to watch amazing travel shows on TV.

Over the years I have spent way too much of my spare time consuming every travel show under the sun. And, I thought it was high time I shared some of them with you.

So, without further ado, here are some of the best travel shows on TV – whether it be DVD, Netflix or Amazon.

1. Long Way Round

I remember watching the Long Way Round years ago (2004), which is still clear in my memory. The world-famous Ewan McGregor and one of his best friends Charlie Boorman, pursue their passion for BMW motorbikes and adventure travel and head east from London, as far as possible.

The journey was nearly 19 thousand miles (33,000 kms) and took them through Europe, overland through Asia (Russia, Kazakhstan and Mongolia) to the USA and New York.

Of course, they do take a crew with them, but this is hardcore overland travel at its best. No script, all the hardships are shown. Boy, they had a difficult time in some parts of Asia!

Update: They have the latest episode in this series, Long Way Up, which features the boys riding from Ushuaia in Argentina to Los Angeles. This is more or less the classic Pan-American Highway route that travelers love!

2. Long Way Down

Following on from the 2004 success, Ewan McGregor and Charlie Boorman set out again in 20017. This time North to South from Scotland to Cape Town in the Long Way Down . This is yet another infamous overland route and also not a simple one.

Many of the roads and countries in Africa are not in the same state as their European counterparts, so they had some challenges with their suspension. They also had quite some adventures and exciting visits, even with presidents!

If you liked the first one of the series, then this is an equally good follow-up.

It’s also available on Amazon.

Below is a quick intro to the show. It’s worth taking a look.

3. Anthony Bourdain (Parts Unknown, No Reservations, A Cook’s Tour & The Layover)

With the sad news of his recent passing, how can I not include one of the food travel show classics from Anthony Bourdain and his team at CNN? This series was still being filmed at the time of this death, and they have since tried to finalise it without being able to use him for voiceovers. However, there is so much material in this series, you won’t be stressed looking for things to watch.

Anthony was actually made famous by his book, Kitchen Confidential , where he revealed how things work in the restaurant business. I actually read this book over 20 years ago, long before I even realised he was on TV.

Parts Unknown is a unique take on travel from Anthony where he visits various countries around the world that interest him and explores all the great food they have on offer. But, he does not go for the classy restaurants and showy food, he looks for the best of what locals enjoy.

And dives right in himself! It’s super-inspiring to see someone so famous get down and dirty and have absolutely zero pretence. He loves food. He loves people. And he loves to travel. What more could you ask for in a TV Show.

Some of the series from Parts Unknown is available on Amazon .

As are some of his older series like No Reservations , A Cook’s Tour , The Layover

And here is a quick preview of season 7 from CNN.

4. Departures – with Scott Wilson and Justin Lukach

Two best friends from Canada decide they need a little excitement in their lives and head off for a year of adventure.  They end up exploring vast areas of the world and looking for as many unique experiences as possible.

The series is quite in-depth, covering 43 episodes , and almost as many countries. And by the time you have finished it, I will be surprised if you don’t just get up and go traveling yourself.

You can grab it on Bluray on Amazon.

Here is a quick intro to the series.

5. Simon Reeve Travels

I absolutely love to watch Louis Theroux on TV. His bumbling, almost nerd-like charm somehow disarms all the crazy nut-jobs that he interviews.

Simon Reeve, at least to me, seems like his equal in the BBC travel world. He is not a gung-ho daring, Tom Cruise look-alike. He is a down-to-earth, easy-to-like, bumbling reporter who takes to the most interesting places on earth. And makes you fall in love with them all as much as he does.

We have started watching some of his earlier shows. We have started with his crazy trip around the Equator. But some of the others are available on the BBC (if you live in the UK) including such trips as: the Mediterranean, Caribbean, Australia, Africa, Colombia and many more.

Here is a quick intro to the Caribbean series.

6. Rick Steves Travel Series

Another prolific traveler and creator of travel-related content both on and offline is Rick Steves. If you type in many European-related travel searches in Google, you will often find his website in the top ten.

He seems to have been everywhere worldwide and made a TV show about most of it. He appeals to an older demographic in my opinion, as his commentary is a little stiffer, but you can certainly learn a lot from this guy.

You can check them out on his website.

And below is an intro to Season 9 of his European series.

7. Michael Palins (Various Adventures around the world)

Michael Palin, a former Monty Python member and Jon Cleese, has been producing top-notch travel series for years and is a little more old-school than Rick Steves. His shows focus on longer adventures, similar to A Long Way Round, although perhaps not as challenging.

They are fun to watch, and you certainly get to see some of the lesser-explored regions of the world. Although some of these series will be a little dated by now – I remember watching some decades ago!

And just as I said that I took a look and saw he has since made some new series on Channel 5 in the UK, including a trip into the forbidden land of North Korea !

Michael Palin’s Around the World in 80 Days

8. An Idiot Abroad

Venturing into a little bit of Travel Comedy, An Idiot Abroad is the brainchild of the creator of the British (original) The Office, along with a few co-creators. The idea is to send someone who has almost never left their town, let alone lifestyle and send them to some very foreign destinations.

Along the way, they experience some extremely challenging destinations and situations all in the name of broadening their horizons. Karl Pilkington will never be the same again, and maybe neither will you.

You can grab Season 1 and Season 2 on Amazon.

Here is a quick Best Of from the China episode to give you a taste of the show.

9. Travel Man with Richard Ayoade

Another long-running comedy travel show from the UK, Travel Man is very short episode focused on 48 hours in various cities, mainly in Europe. Of course, now that he is on about his 10th season, he has started to venture a little further afield. Apart from his sarcasm, one of the best things about the show for me is the wacky things he (or his team) finds in every location. Not your run-of-the-mill tourist attractions.

Each episode is extremely sarcastic and accompanied by another usually British comedian, so people outside the UK may have trouble laughing or even understanding what he is saying. His accent is strong and his vocabulary is broad. You might have seen him as one of the wacky IT experts in t he IT Crowd (which you can see on Netflix ), a little like the British version of Silicon Valley, albeit filmed years before.

There are various seasons up for grabs on Amazon .

If you want to see if it’s up to your alley, here is a quick taste of Richard with some of his fellow comedians on the show.

10. Top Gear

Intended as a bit of a petrolhead’s show about cars, Top Gear has also done a significant amount of travel-related shows over the years too. From the drives down the most dangerous roads in the world to almost killing themselves in places like Switzerland. Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, and James May will show you a great time on the road and while traveling.

You can check out Season 1 here on Amazon and other seasons that follow.

11. Joanna Lumley’s Travel Series

Joanna Lumley became famous back in the 70s, but for me, she became even more famous for her role in Absolutely Fabulous. Since then, she has traveled and filmed it all for us. She has also done a “making of” series that I enjoyed. She may seem very posh and British when you first see her shows, but if you love sarcasm and comedy then just wait a bit and she will deliver!

Here is a list of her extensive travel shows you can catch on BBC or other online streaming services:

  • Joanna Lumley’s Hidden Caribbean
  • Joanna Lumley in the Kingdom of the Thunder Dragon
  • Joanna Lumley in the Land of the Northern Lights

The Best Travel Shows On Netflix

Netflix is a bit of a special category in this post because they don’t have many of the more famous shows above at the moment.

12. Dark Tourist

One of the more recent and perhaps more infamous trends in travel right now is called Dark Tourism. With the recent airing of the series about Chornobyl, it seems to have accelerated even more.

One wacky New Zealand traveler, David Farrier heads to some quirky and sometimes dangerous locations in eight episodes of Dark Tourist , which sees him head to most continents. From the recent Japanese nuclear disaster to perhaps shooting a cow in Cambodia, he tries it all.

13. Street Food: Asia

If you like to combine mouth-watering food and travel, a popular past-time, then this is a recent addition to Netflix that I am currently devouring. It shows you some amazing chefs who are almost always out on the street and serving the locals with something of an obsession. From Thailand to India, you get to see it all – no-frills cooking from some of the best street food vendors in the world.

14. Tales By Light

Another show I have been checking out lately is Tales By Light , a travel and photography-based series up to season 3. It follows a famous Australian photographer all around the world, delving into the lives of the people he meets and how he experiences travel through the lens.

15. Jack Whitehall: Travels with my Father

A show I have not had a chance to see, but it certainly looks like a travel comedy worth checking out. It involves a comedian and his stuffy father taking far-flung adventures to foreign lands and trying to teach each other a thing or two.

16. Somebody Feed Phil

A more modern version of a travel & food show, Somebody Feed Phil , is about exploring the places and food no one talks about. Phil is quite the quirky and loveable character, so you will either love him or loathe him. I watched half the first season and did not fall in love with it. However, given that Netflix has commissioned 6 seasons of the show, there must be a lot of people who love it.

17. Conan Without Borders

Following famous TV night show host Conan O’Brien to some adventurous destinations around the world, this is yet another travel and comedy combination you won’t want to miss. From Haiti and Cuba to K-Pop in South Korea this is as wacky as it is travel.

18. Restaurants on the Edge

“Restaurants on the Edge” is a Canadian reality TV series premiered in 2020. It showcases chef Dennis Prescott, designer Karin Bohn, and restaurateur Nick Liberato assisting struggling restaurants in scenic, remote locations like seashores, lakes, and mountains. This is a little like Gordon Ramsay’s old show Kitchen Nightmares, but more travel related.

The goal of the visits on this show is to rejuvenate these places by integrating them with the local culture. Additionally, the show offers a travel experience, with episodes featuring the experts exploring local areas, meeting artisans, and tasting authentic local foods.

Whether you’re seeking a good laugh, a sense of wanderlust, or a boost of inspiration, these travel stories have got you covered. So, without further ado, let’s dive into the world of crazy, funny, and inspiring travel tales.

Crazy Travel Stories

Traveling can sometimes lead to the most unexpected and bizarre situations. From encounters with wild animals to navigating through challenging terrain, these crazy travel stories will leave you in awe of the incredible experiences that happen on the road.

One traveler found themselves in a remote village in Africa when they stumbled upon a traditional tribal ceremony. They were invited to participate in the festivities and were amazed by the vibrant dances and cultural rituals. It was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to immerse themselves in a completely different world.

In another crazy story, a group of friends went on a hiking trip in the mountains. Little did they know that they would encounter a rare sighting of a majestic snow leopard. As they cautiously watched the elusive creature from a distance, they couldn’t help but feel an overwhelming sense of awe and wonder.

For those seeking adrenaline-pumping adventures, one traveler decided to go skydiving in New Zealand. As they soared through the clouds and experienced the rush of freefall, they couldn’t help but feel an exhilaration like never before. It was a heart-stopping moment that will forever be etched in their memory.

Another traveler shared their crazy experience of getting lost in a bustling city. While wandering through the maze-like streets, they stumbled upon a hidden gem – a hole-in-the-wall restaurant that served the most delectable local cuisine. It was a serendipitous discovery that turned a moment of confusion into a delicious and unforgettable gastronomic adventure.

These crazy travel stories remind us that sometimes the most extraordinary moments happen when we least expect them. Whether it’s stumbling upon ancient rituals, encountering rare wildlife, or getting lost in a foreign city, embracing the unexpected is part of the magic of travel.

Funny Travel Stories

Traveling often leads to hilarious and lighthearted moments that become the stories we share with friends and family. These funny travel stories will leave you in stitches as you imagine the amusing situations that travelers find themselves in.

One traveler found themselves on a crowded train in Japan during rush hour. As they were standing amidst the sea of passengers, a sudden jolt caused their backpack to accidentally open, sending their belongings tumbling onto the floor. Embarrassed but quick-witted, they started doing a makeshift magic show with their scattered items, turning an awkward moment into a laughter-filled spectacle.

In another funny story, a traveler attempted to order a meal at a local restaurant using a language translation app. However, the app misinterpreted their request, and instead of ordering a traditional dish, they ended up with a plate of fried insects. With a mix of surprise and amusement, they decided to give it a try, discovering that it was surprisingly delicious and became a memorable culinary adventure.

For those who have traveled with pets, there are often comical moments that arise. One traveler shared the story of their adventurous cat who managed to escape their hotel room and was found perched on a rooftop, seemingly enjoying the view. It took some creative problem-solving and a bit of embarrassment to safely retrieve their feline friend.

Another funny travel story involves a traveler mistaking a sheep for their tour guide in the Irish countryside. They followed the sheep, believing it to be leading them to the next point of interest, until they realized their mistake and had a good laugh about it.

These funny travel stories remind us that even in the midst of the unexpected, laughter is often the best response. From language mishaps to animal antics, these humorous moments contribute to the joy and entertainment of our travel experiences.

Inspiring Travel Stories

Traveling has a way of touching our hearts and inspiring us to see the world in a different light. These inspiring travel stories showcase the transformative power of travel, the connections we make with others, and the profound impact it can have on our lives.

One traveler shared their experience of volunteering in a remote village in Nepal. They helped build a school for the local children, witnessing firsthand the resilience and determination of the community. The gratitude and joy they felt in seeing the children receive an education touched their heart and left a lasting impact on their perspective of the world.

In another inspiring story, a traveler embarked on a solo backpacking journey through Southeast Asia. Along the way, they met incredible people from diverse backgrounds and forged deep connections. These encounters taught them the beauty of human connection and the importance of embracing different cultures.

For some, travel becomes a transformative experience that changes the course of their lives. One traveler shared their story of leaving a corporate job to pursue their passion for photography. They traveled to remote corners of the world, capturing breathtaking images and sharing the stories of the people they encountered. Through their experiences, they found purpose, fulfillment, and a new sense of self.

Another inspiring travel story involves a traveler who set out on a journey of self-discovery. They hiked the Camino de Santiago, a pilgrimage trail in Spain, facing physical and mental challenges along the way. This grueling journey led to profound introspection and personal growth, reminding them of their inner strength and resilience.

These inspiring travel stories serve as a reminder that travel has the power to broaden our horizons, ignite a sense of purpose, and foster deep connections. It encourages us to step outside of our comfort zones, embrace new experiences, and discover the transformative beauty that the world has to offer.

Travel is not just about exploring new places or ticking off bucket list destinations. It’s about the moments that take our breath away, the laughter that fills our hearts, and the inspiration that sets our souls on fire. The best short travel stories capture the essence of these extraordinary experiences and remind us of the magic that travel brings into our lives.

From crazy adventures to hilarious mishaps and inspiring journeys, these stories showcase the diverse range of emotions and encounters that await us on our travels. They remind us to embrace the unexpected, find joy in the humorous situations, and let travel change us for the better.

Whether it’s witnessing the vibrant dances of a tribal ceremony, experiencing the adrenaline rush of skydiving, or finding ourselves in a serendipitous gastronomic adventure, these stories highlight the beauty of stepping outside our comfort zones and immersing ourselves in different cultures.

Moreover, travel stories connect us through shared experiences and inspire us to explore the world with an open heart and a curious mind. They remind us of the transformative power of travel, the connections we make with others, and the personal growth that comes from venturing into the unknown.

So, the next time you embark on a journey, keep your eyes and heart open to the possibility of creating your own travel story. Whether it’s crazy, funny, or inspiring, these moments have the power to shape our lives and leave an indelible mark on our souls.
