1. When do I need to submit my visa application? Answer: You are advised to apply for an entry visa within 30 days prior to arrival in Singapore. It is recommended to submit an application at least one week before a trip during the non-peak season and two to four weeks before a trip during the peak season (i.e. March to May).

2. Does the validity period of visa includes the date of expiry? Answer: The visa validity period is inclusive of the date of expiry.

3. Can the validity period of visa be amended? Answer: The visa validity period cannot be amended once the visa has been issued. You may wish to approach an Authorised Visa Agent to submit a new application.

4. Do I need to apply for a new visa if the visa validity period ends before my return date? Answer: There is no need to apply for a new visa as long as your travel date to Singapore is within the visa validity period.

5. How can I extend my Visa? Answer: There is strictly no extension of visa validity or change of visa type. You can submit a fresh application upon the expiry or upon utilisation of your current visa. However, please note that each visa application is assessed on its own merits.

6. How to check visa validity? Answer: The visa validity is printed on the visa.

7. Where can I download my e-Visa? Answer: You can retrieve your e-visa via the status enquiry with the visa application reference number and travel document number.

8. What if I do not have the visa application reference number? Answer: Visa application reference number is generated on the acknowledge page when a visa is successfully submitted. You may wish to contact the Authorised Visa Agent in which you had submitted the application to for the retrieval of visa application reference number.

9. What is the validity period of a Singapore Visa? Answer: Every application for a visa, including the duration of the visa granted, will be considered on its own merits and subject to approval. Applicants who are applying for the visa online are advised to submit the application about 30 days prior to the intended arrival into Singapore so that the visa validity will be sufficient for the visit.

10. Do I need a visa if I just want to transit in Singapore? Answer: Passengers who have arrived at Singapore Changi Airport and have been issued with their onward boarding passes for connecting flights out of Changi Airport may remain within the Changi Airport transit area until time for flight departure. Passengers who are able to obtain their onward boarding passes from any of the Transfer Lounges within the transit area can also remain in the transit area. All other passengers should exit the transit area as soon as possible. We wish to further highlight that most passengers who are arriving on a Low Cost Carrier (LCC) or connecting to a LCC are required to seek immigration clearance and obtain their onward boarding passes in the respective Departure Check-in Hall. Foreigners who seek immigration clearance will have to satisfy the prevailing entry requirements, which include possessing an entry visa, where applicable. All passengers are strongly advised to liaise with the relevant airlines before embarking on their journeys. For more information on flights connection and transit facilities/services, please visit the Changi Airport Group's website.

11. How do I transfer my valid visa issued on my old travel document to the new one? Answer: You can transfer your valid visa on your old travel document to the new one which you are intending to travel to Singapore with. You may approach one of the Authorised Visa Agents for assistance. Basic supporting documents required from you are:

  • Your old and new travel document (original and copy)
  • Printout of the valid visa
  • Form 14A duly completed and signed
  • Your recent passport-sized colour photograph taken within the last three months. Please see Photo Guidelines for information on photo requirements.

12. What is the difference between Multiple and Single Journey Visa? Answer: If you have been issued with a single journey visa, it only allows you to use the visa once. If you possess a Multiple Journey Visa, there is no limit on the number of times that you can use the visa so long it is within the validity period. Please note that possessing a valid visa does not guarantee entry into Singapore. Visitors have to satisfy the basic entry requirements before they can be considered for entry into Singapore.

13. What is the difference between visa and visit pass? Answer: Visitors must note that Singapore visa is not an immigration pass. It is a pre-entry permission for the holder of a valid Singapore visa to travel to, and seek entry, into Singapore. Possessing a valid visa does not guarantee entry into Singapore. Visitors who are eligible for entry will be issued with visit passes upon arrival. These visit passes determine the number of days that visitors are allowed to stay in Singapore and it is not tied to the validity of your visa.

14. How do I appeal against my visa rejection? Answer: You are able to submit the appeal within one month from the date of the visa rejection. Applicant can submit an appeal through the Authorised Visa Agent in which the application was submitted to. Please note that the processing time for appeal is generally 14 working days depending on its complexity. Each appeal is assessed and considered on its own merits.

15. I want to know the reason for my visa rejection. Answer: ICA do not disclose the reason of rejection due to confidentiality of information. We seek your understanding on this matter.

What is a Single Entry Visa?

What is a multiple entry visa, difference between single entry visa and multiple entry visas, which countries offer both single entry visa and multiple entry visa options to travelers, tips to help choose the right visa for your travel needs.

  • Single Entry Visa
  • Multiple Entry Visas

Understanding the differences between them - single entry vs multiple entry visa can help you make an informed decision that aligns with your travel needs.

A single entry visa permits you to enter a country only once during the visa's validity period. Once you exit the country, the visa is no longer valid for re-entry. This type of visa is suitable for travelers with a fixed travel itinerary or those visiting a specific destination for a single trip.

Highlights of Single Entry Visas:

  • Cost-effective for one-time trips.
  • Simpler application process with less documentation.
  • Suited for fixed itineraries and specific travel purposes.
  • Less scrutiny at borders for a smoother entry.
  • No need to plan for re-entry, simplifying travel arrangements.
  • Easier visa extensions for longer stays if needed.

A multiple entry visa allows you to enter and exit the country multiple times within the visa's validity period. This type of visa is beneficial for travelers who intend to visit multiple destinations or need to make frequent trips for business or leisure.

Highlights of Multiple Entry Visas:

  • Flexibility for frequent travel within the visa's validity period.
  • Economical for business travelers and those visiting the same country multiple times.
  • Time-saving with a single visa covering all entries.
  • Ideal for multi-country itineraries and extended stays.
  • Simplified travel planning without re-entry considerations.

Now that you are equipped with the single and multiple entry visa meaning and their difference it is now time to learn which countries offer both single and multiple entry visas to travelers.

Many countries offer both single and multiple entry visas. However, visa policies and requirements for these undergo consistent iterations over time. Here is a list of some countries that commonly offer both types of visas:

  • United States
  • United Kingdom
  • Schengen Area countries (A group of 26 European countries that have abolished passports and other types of border control at their mutual borders)

To select the appropriate visa type, consider your travel plans carefully. Evaluate factors such as the number of countries you'll visit, the duration of your trip, and your travel frequency. If you're planning a single, one-time trip, a single entry visa may suffice.

However, if you foresee multiple entries or visits to various countries, a multiple entry visa would be more practical. Below mentioned are a few tips that could ease your decision for choosing the right visa

  • Research visa requirements for your destination countries.
  • Plan your travel itinerary and determine the number of entries required.
  • Consider the cost-effectiveness of each visa type.

Moving To Singapore

Types Of Visas In Singapore 8

Living in Singapore is something that many people dream of because life here is considered by many to be life at its best.

Singapore is an efficient and clean Asian city that retains much of the charm of its British colonial days while offering a cutting-edge, well-developed environment.

Singapore’s position on the southern tip of Malaysia has allowed it to develop into one of the most important trade and finance centers in Asia, and today, it is the fifth wealthiest country in the world according to GDP.

It also has the fourth-largest foreign exchange trading center in the world.

Singapore’s population of 5.08 million people (June 2010) primarily consists of people of Chinese (70%), Malay, and Indian backgrounds.

Singapore is a city of robust laws , which are adhered to strictly. While this has given it a reputation as an authoritarian state, the reality is that it keeps the city safe, clean, and well-ordered.

The main religions followed in Singapore are Buddhism, Islam, Hinduism, Christianity and Tao.

However, the reliable and inexpensive broadband services entail that expatriates can easily overcome this obstacle.

The official language of Singapore is Mandarin Chinese , which is the Singaporean Government’s language. However, English is the most common language and is the language of business and trade.

Children will generally be taught in English in schools but will also be expected to learn Mandarin . Other common languages in Singapore include Tamil, Malay, and Cantonese.

Many Singaporeans speak a language that has come to be known as Singlish . Singlish is a mixture of English and other languages and can be difficult for English speakers to understand.

Single Entry and Multiple Entry Visas

U.S. visas in the passports of non-U.S. citizens will give them permission to travel to a U.S. port of entry but do not guarantee entry into the country. Visas will be issued to foreigners by consular officers abroad after they review their applications for U.S. visas and after making sure that they are admissible into America.

Immigration authorities at the ports of entry will allow them to enter the U.S. after verifying their eligibility. Immigration officers will also stamp their passports and indicate the date on which they will need to leave the country.

The visa expiration date and the length of time they are permitted to stay in the U.S. are both different. The expiration date of the visa and the date on which it was issued can be found on the visa. Visa validity is the time period between the date on which the visa was issued and the expiration date of the visa. During that period, visa holders can travel to U.S. ports of entry.

There are two types of nonimmigrant visas being issued, single entry and multiple entry visas. Based on the nationalities of the applicants, single or multiple entry visas will be issued to them.

A single entry visa can be used by the visa holders to travel to a U.S. port of entry just one time. They can travel to the U.S. any time before the visa expiry date. Once they leave the U.S. they will not be able to travel again to the U.S. with the same visa even if it is still valid.

Multiple entry visas can be used to travel to U.S. ports of entry as many times as the visa status. The number of times the visa holders can travel to the U.S. with those particular visas will be denoted under “entries” on the visas. These visas will be valid for a certain period of time which is known as the visa validity period. During this period, the holders of these visas can travel to the U.S. multiple times for the purpose the visas were issued. However, they must not exceed the number of entries allowed on their visas.

What Is a Single Entry Visa?

Visas can be divided into 2 main categories : single-entry visas and multiple-entry visas .

A single-entry visa permits the bearer to cross the border and enter the country of issue just once . Many countries issue visas that allow a single entry.

Single-entry permits are often issued as online visas , via a quick application form. Using the internet to obtain visas is a growing trend due to its convenience and is quickly becoming the modern way to get most types of travel authorization.

Depending on the destination and the nationality of the traveler, they may need to take the longer route of applying for a single-entry visa from a diplomatic mission , such as an embassy .

Single-Entry Visa Meaning

A single-entry visa is a travel permit that allows the holder to enter the destination country on one single occasion .

Once the travelers has arrived in the country and cleared immigration, the visa cannot be used again .

If issued as a separate document to the individual’s passport, it is still important to keep the visa for the duration of the stay in the foreign country. This is because it proves that the visitor is authorized to be in the country.

After departing from the country , a single-entry visa ceases to be valid. If the traveler wishes to return, they must apply for a new visa.

In some cases, it might only be possible to obtain a single-entry visa to visit a country. Other destinations allow travelers to select either a single-entry or multiple-entry visa. Single-entry visas typically come at a lower price .

What Is the Difference Between a Single and a Multiple Entry Visa?

A single-entry visa allows the holder to enter the country once.

A multiple-entry visa permits the holder to enter more than once.

The exact terms of multiple-entry visas vary depending on the country of issue. In many cases, the number of entries is unlimited while the visa is still valid . This means that the holder can travel to the destination country as many times as they like until the visa expires.

In other cases, multiple-entry visas permit a specified number of visits . They may be referred to as “dual-entry visas” or “triple-entry visas”, depending on the number of trips allowed.

Some destinations issue only single-entry visas, while others only have multiple-entry visas. Others allow visitors to choose. In these cases, single-entry visas are usually more affordable .

The number of entries permitted may also vary depending on the type and purpose of the visa.

Schengen visa for the Netherlands

Schengenvisa.info

Single entry visa.

Schengen visa insurance for a visa application

What is a single entry visa C for the Netherlands?

Who a Schengen visa for short stay is going to apply has the choice between a single-entry visa or a multiple entry visa . In this article you can read what a single-entry visa is.

A 'single entry' visa allows you to enter the Schengen area once. You may then be in the Schengen area for a maximum of 90 days out of 180. During these 90 days you can go to all 26 Schengen countries travel and stay there.

You usually get a single-entry Schengen visa for a certain period, which is longer than your stay in the Schengen area. You should therefore be careful not to confuse the number of days specified with the validity date indicated on the visa.

For example, a visa can be issued for 30 days but be valid from February 1 to March 15. Then you can stay in the Schengen area for a maximum of 30 days within a period of one and a half months. The embassy gives a 15 day longer validity period as standard, which gives you more options when planning your trip. For example, if you travel a week later because a plane ticket is cheaper then you can also leave a week later without losing vacation days.

Single = 1 entry

With a single-entry visa, you may therefore enter the Netherlands or another Schengen country once within the validity date of the visa. You must always stick to the number of days that are on you visa sticker stands. Also remember that 90 days does not mean 3 months! The maximum of 90 days cannot be changed. You have to Schengen area off again, otherwise there will be an overstay and that can have unpleasant and far-reaching consequences.

More often to the Schengen area

If you want to travel to the Schengen area more than once in a year, it is best to apply for a multiple entry. This means that you can travel to the Schengen area several times without having to apply for a visa each time. The 1-day rule (in a period of 90 days) still applies, so you can no longer stay in the Schengen area. Every time you enter the Schengen area you must also be in possession of a Schengen insurance .

Change a single-entry visa to a multiple-entry

When you traveled to the Netherlands with  you cannot just change it to a single-entry visa a multiple entry visa. This is only possible in situations of force majeure, humanitarian reasons, serious professional reasons or personal circumstances that have changed after you traveled to the Netherlands. Before submitting the request, you must make an appointment with a  IND desk .

The Immigration Authority of Singapore issues an electronic visa in a PDF format which will contain a unique identification number. The visa stays in the system of the Singapore Immigration and will appear automatically on the passport control officer’s screen; it also can be printed out and presented to the immigration officer together with an online Singapore Arrival Card at passport control.

  • Complete an online form for every applicant on the Apply for a visa to Singapore page.
  • Attach the required documents.

Since we can apply 1 month in advance of arrival only, the application will be submitted no sooner than 1 month prior to the trip. However, if you are planning to travel in a few months’ time, we will accept your application but will start the application process 1 month before the specified entry date into Singapore.

The issued visa allows multiple entries into the country during its period of validity (9 weeks, 63 days), which begins from the date of issue of the visa. Please bear in mind that the duration of each stay in Singapore cannot exceed 30 days, i.e. every time you are entering the country your passport will be accordingly stamped allowing to remain for (usually) 30 days.

For each child, a separate visa is issued regardless of whether the child has a separate passport or is included in the passport of the parent, in which case you should attach a copy of the passport page with the child’s details, and specify the passport number of their parent, where the child is included.

PayPal and Smoovpay allow you to make a payment with the majority of debit and credit cards. Since Payments by credit cards, issued in majority of the countries, can be made as a guest without creating an account.

When making a payment though Smoovpay or PayPal, you’ll be able to use practically any credit card. The applicant’s name does not need to match the credit card holder’s name.

The final decision on granting and the validity of the visa is made by the Singapore Immigration Authority. Similar to any visa to any other country, possession of a valid visa does not entitle a foreign national to enter Singapore automatically. Granting of a visit pass to foreign visitors is determined by the officer of the Immigration Authority at the Singapore checkpoints and each case is considered on its own merits.

You might be asked to produce a return ticket . Even those who do not require a visa to enter Singapore are often asked to produce a return ticket when checking in on a flight.

A visa is not required if your stay in Singapore does not exceed 4 days (96 hours) and you are arriving at and leaving Singapore by air. This is considered a transit. For example, if you are flying from Moscow to Bali through Singapore, at Singapore passport control you will be asked to produce an air ticket (and a visa if it’s required) to the third country. If after arriving in Singapore you are planning to take a ferry to one of the Malaysian or Indonesian islands then you are required to apply for a visa to Singapore .

A visa is required if you are flying, for example, from Moscow to Singapore and back to Moscow, i.e. you are not departing to the third country but returning to the country where you have arrived from.

Officially, there is no limit on a number of visa-free transit entries into Singapore. However, bear in mind that an officer from the Immigration Authority may inquire into your frequent short-stay visits. Please, bear in mind that recently there has been an increase in a number of comments from travellers on various tourist forums and blogs speculating that airlines check-in staff are not always aware of this visa-free transit rule and delay passengers, or even prevent them from boarding the flight bound for Singapore without a visa. To be on a safe side and to avoid spoiling your trip, you are advised to apply for a visa to Singapore .

In accordance with the Immigration Authority, visa-free transit is allowed if you are leaving to the third country by air.

Visa-free transit through Singapore is allowed when entering the country not only by air but also by land and water. However, you must leave by air.

The issued visa allows multiple entries into the country during its period of validity* (9 weeks), which begins from the date of issue of the visa. Please bear in mind that the duration of each stay in Singapore cannot exceed 30 days, i.e. every time you are entering the country your passport will be accordingly stamped allowing to remain for (usually) 30 days.

In accordance with the Immigration Authority of Singapore, visa-free transit is only allowed if your stay in the country does not exceed 96 hours. The stay in the country is measured from the time the plane arriving in Singapore lands to the scheduled departure time. We strongly recommend you to apply for a Singapore visa .

If you have already received your electronic visa in a PDF format, you will be able to independently verify the authenticity of the visa on the Singapore Immigration Authority website.

Refusals by the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority are quite rare. Reasons for refusals are never given to us by the Immigration & Checkpoints authority.

  • the applicant has done something wrong during their previous stay in Singapore;
  • the applicant has abused the visa regime or overstayed the permitted time during their previous stay;
  • the applicant has another currently valid visa to Singapore;
  • the applicant has already been refused visa recently;
  • the applicant has already applied for a visa with another agency;
  • the photograph is not sharp or bright enough.

Due to an increase in illegal activity by the female tourists entering Singapore with a tourist visa, the ICA has hardened the visa approval procedure and the number of refusals has increased.

Visa-Free Transit Facility in Singapore For Indians Traveling To & From USA

guide to singapore visa free transit facility for indians

Last Updated on Aug 28th, 2023 by Heena Ganotra, Leave a Comment

Indians traveling to the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Switzerland, Japan, Germany, Australia and New Zealand via Singapore International Airport are all eligible for the 4-day visa-free transit facility.

Along with Indians, Singapore allows Visa-Free Transit Facility (VFTF) to nationals of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), Georgia, the People’s Republic of China (PRC), Turkmenistan, and Ukraine.

Eligibility Requirements for Visa Free Transit Facility

If you are a National of India (carrier of an Indian passport), you will be eligible for the 96-hour VFTF if you meet the following requirements –

  • While your entry into Singapore can be via any mode of transport, you will have to depart only via air or sea .
  • You must have a valid onward air/ferry/cruise ticket departing Singapore within 96 hours.
  • You must have a valid visa or long-term pass (with a validity of at least one month from the date of entry into Singapore under the VFTF).
  • The visa or long term pass must be issued by any of the following countries: Australia, Canada, Germany, Japan, New Zealand, Switzerland, United Kingdom, United States of America.

Important Note

The 96-hour free transit visa to Singapore can be used only once, either onward flight from India or return flight from any of these countries.

Does VFTF Benefit Indian Americans As Well?

Yes. While Indian Americans are not eligible for Singapore’s 4-day visa free transit facility, they can make the most out of it. The mere knowledge regarding VFTF can help them save a lot when they book flights for their parents, friends, and relatives as the visa cost will be 0, making flights cheaper.

Single Journey Visas & Visa Free Transit Facility

If you are an Indian having a single journey visa (SJV) or a multiple entry visa to either of USA, UK, Canada, Australia, Germany, Japan, Switzerland and New Zealand, you may still be eligible for VFTF but only on the return leg of your journey i.e. after the SJV is used and no longer valid). However, you must –

  • Have a visa that is valid for at least one month from the date of entry to Singapore.
  • Travel directly from the country that issued the SJV, en route through Singapore, back to your home country.
  • Not have returned to your home country since you last used the SJV.

Note (For the Nationals of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), Georgia, Turkmenistan and Ukraine): If you are in transit to or from any third country, you may be eligible for the 96-hour VFTF if you have a valid onward air ticket departing within 96 hours and you depart Singapore by air.

Well, that’s pretty much everything about the Singapore Visa-Free Transit Facility!

If you are still a little apprehensive, our travel experts at MyTicketsToIndia will run you through all the details.

What is the difference between a single and a multiple entry visa?

Help Centre what do you need help with?

The main difference between these two visa types is that a single entry visa allows entry to Canada for one-time only and a multiple entry visa allows entry many times .

Which type of visa to get

You don’t need to choose. A multiple entry visa is what all visa applicants are automatically considered for. We will review your application and issue you a visa depending on your situation.

Multiple entry visa

While valid, a multiple entry visa will let you travel to Canada for six months at a time as many times as you want. It will be valid for up to 10 years or one month before your passport expires, whichever is shorter. You must arrive in Canada on or before the expiry date on your visa.

Single entry visa

A single entry visa lets you travel to Canada only one time. For instance, you may only be eligible for a single entry visa if:

  • you are eligible for a fee-exemption and the purpose of your entry to Canada is limited (such as, for an official visit by a foreign national)
  • you are taking part in a one-time special event in Canada
  • there are approved country-specific procedures or guidelines in place.

In most cases, once you have left Canada, you will need a new visa to enter Canada again.

You won’t need a new visitor visa to return to Canada if you are travelling directly to the United States (including its Territories and Possessions) or St. Pierre and Miquelon.

New entry requirement now in effect

Visa-exempt foreign nationals need an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) to fly to or transit through Canada by air. Exceptions include U.S. citizens and travellers with a valid Canadian visa. Canadian citizens, including dual citizens , and Canadian permanent residents cannot apply for an eTA.

Whether you are visiting Ireland for a short vacation or coming to work in the country, you need to know the categories and how they apply. These apply to those from visa-required countries.

The single entry visa permits foreign nationals to travel to Ireland once during the visa’s validity period.

On the other hand, a multiple entry visa permits a foreign national to travel to Ireland on multiple occasions during the validity period, as long as their stay is within the confines of Irish immigration law. That means, if you have a short stay visa of 90 days, you can’t stay in the country for 90 days, leave and re-enter shortly after for another 90 days even if you have a multi-entry visa.

These visas have varying eligibility criteria. When making a choice, you also have to decide if you want a Short Stay C visa or a Long Stay D visa .

Short Stay Single Entry Visa and Multiple Entry Visas

You can apply for a single-entry or multiple-entry Short Stay ‘C’ visa. When filling out your application, you must indicate that you want a multiple entry visa.

Multiple entry short-stay visas aren’t always issued; the applicant’s travel history must be favourable to obtain one.

A compliant travel history is one where you observed the conditions of previous Irish visas and did not break Ireland’s laws. Even if you meet that requirement, you may not still get a short-stay multiple entry visa.

Your purpose in Ireland is also a factor. Suppose you haven’t travelled to Ireland previously. In that case, a multiple entry visa may be approved if the immigration officer sees a need for it, such as if you need to travel to Ireland regularly for business meetings or to come to Ireland for a business meeting then travel to another country for another meeting and back to Ireland.

Multiple entry visas can come with different validity periods, including one year, two years, three years, and five-year validity.

Applicants who can get the longer durations have proven they have reliable travel history complying with immigration rules, including not overstaying their immigration conditions. One of such conditions is that Short Stay ‘C’ visa holders cannot make Ireland their permanent home with their visa and cannot stay for more than 90 days.

That means if you enter Ireland and stay for 90 days, you can’t leave and come back immediately for another 90 days in the same 12 month period. Also, you cannot stay for more than 90 days just because you have a valid multi-entry visa. If you defy a rule, you may be denied entry at the port of entry or be refused future visa applications.

To obtain a single entry or multiple entry visa, you need to provide adequate evidence to support your application. We can assess your eligibility, advise on the supporting documents, and help fill out a high-standard application to maximise your chances. Call us today on (+353) 061 518 025 .

When filling your visa application form, you can select single entry or multiple entry.

If you are granted a single entry visa, you must apply for re-entry permission in Ireland if you plan to travel in and out of the country within the first four months of your arrival while awaiting your Irish Residence Permit card.

To obtain your IRP card, you must register your permission with your local registration office after you arrive in the country. You should register this regardless of if you have a single entry or multi-entry permission.

If you already hold the IRP card when you need to travel and have a single-entry visa, you don’t need to apply for a multiple entry or re-entry visa.

If you don’t have one of those and you leave the country, you can apply for a multi-entry visa or another visa from outside Ireland.

Please beware that those below 16 years of age aren’t issued an IRP card, so their parent or guardian must apply for a multiple entry visa before they come to Ireland or a re-entry visa before they leave Ireland. The alternative is to apply for another visa outside Ireland after they leave.

We can help you obtain a Long Stay single entry or multi-entry visa. We provide services that cover an assessment of your eligibility, advise, and help with completing a high-standard application. Call us today on (+353) 061 518 025 .

Considerations for a Re-entry visa for those below 16 years

To obtain a re-entry visa for a child below 16, the parent or guardian must be a non-EEA national and include their own valid Irish Residence Permit in the re-entry visa application.

If the parent or guardian is moving to Ireland with their child, they must register their permission at the local visa office in Ireland to obtain their own Irish Residence Permit.

The IRP takes time to process, and the child cannot get a re-entry visa without the parent or guardian having an IRP card. So, if there are plans to travel out of Ireland quickly after entering the country, it’s recommended that you apply for a long stay multi-entry visa for the child in the first place.

A multiple entry visa has several requirements. In addition to the requirements we list below, you still need to qualify for the type of visa you apply for, such as an employment visa . Successful Ireland multi-entry visa applicants usually:

  • Legally lived in Ireland with a valid visa previously
  • Entered Ireland multiple times in the last year
  • Intend to travel to Ireland for short and frequent periods, such as recurring business meetings
  • Intend to travel to and from another country from Ireland

If you want to apply for a multiple entry visa Ireland, ensure you gather evidence to show you need to enter Ireland multiple times rather than a single entry. Such evidence can be a passport or travel document, previous visas, and a letter from the company in Ireland with which you have a meeting.

Applying for a single entry or multi-entry Irish visa is done during the regular visa application process.

You start the application for your Employment or Work visa, Business visa , Family reunification visa or other visa using the AVATS website. While filling out the forms, you will be asked to select a ‘C’ or ‘D’ visa and whether it is for a single stay or multiple trips.

While applying, you also need to state the purpose of your trip and provide your passport details. Your passport should have at least six months of validity left before its expiration date.

You must provide substantial evidence to support your application, whether for a single journey or multiple visits to Ireland. The visa officer will assess your travel history and evidence to decide which visa (if any) to approve. Note that entry into Ireland is at the discretion of immigration officers at the point of entry even if you have valid visas or entry permits.

The visa fee for a multi/double-entry visa & single-entry permission differs. Here are the costs:

  • Single Entry: €60
  • Multiple Entry: €100

Beware that the difference will not be refunded if you pay the multiple entry visa Ireland fees but are granted a single-entry visa.

Some individuals are exempt from paying the visa fees, including the spouse, widow/widower and children of Irish nationals. Some family members of EU/EEA/Swiss citizens are also exempt.

If you are from the following countries, you are exempt from the visa fees: Bosnia, Côte d’Ivoire, Ecuador, Indonesia, Jamaica, Kosovo, Kyrgyzstan, Montenegro, Morocco, North Macedonia, Peru, Serbia, Sri Lanka, Tunisia, Uganda, and Zambia.

Small boat crossing the English Channel

Vietnamese irregular migration to the UK is driven by global economic inequalities. Vietnam’s economy has developed unevenly, and most recent Vietnamese migrants hail from just a few backwater provinces which have been left behind, with high youth unemployment levels.

Meanwhile, the UK faces serious labour shortages since Brexit and subsequent government immigration policies have been inadequate and failed to replace previous EU labour in several sectors. A cash-in-hand job in the UK, even one below minimum wage, can earn more than 10 times what jobs are available to them in Vietnam. The law of supply and demand dictates that people facing poverty and unemployment will inevitably seek opportunities to work abroad in places where there are labour shortages.

Government attempts to restrict or prevent economic migration will only make journeys more dangerous and increase the amount migrants must pay to smugglers to facilitate these journeys. Vietnamese migrants borrow large sums of money from loan sharks back home to finance migration journeys, making them even more desperate to find work. If the UK Government wants to reduce boat crossings, it should focus on providing more accessible and appropriate work visa schemes so that migrants from places like Vietnam can travel safely and contribute to the economy, instead of being forced under the radar.
