🏝️15 Top Things To Do In Camotes Island Philippines

Going on a Camotes trip and want to know all the best tourist spots in Camotes Island? We have you covered! Below you will find our guide to exactly what to do in Camotes Island, Cebu to plan your ultimate trip.

The Camotes Islands, part of Cebu Province, are perhaps one of the Philippines most underrated holiday destinations – often overlooked for more well-known spots in the north of Cebu such as Bantayan Island or Malapascua. However, as you’ll see below, there’s much to do and see in Camotes, plus the lack of tourists and over-commercialism only adds to the serenity.

Locals greet you with beaming smiles, activities and entrance fees are some of the cheapest we’ve experienced, and you’ll find everything is carried out at a slow, relaxing vacation-style pace!

Named after the Spanish word for sweet potato, the Camotes Islands are made up of 3 islands and 1 small islet. Located about 65km northeast of Cebu City, they were once lovingly known as the “Lost Horizon of the South”.

Close to Cebu mainland yet magically isolated, the islands of Camotes are scarcely populated, have little public transport and are free of shopping malls, fast-food restaurants, and large hotels. Instead you’ll find natural surroundings – not unlike the lush interior of Palawan – with banana trees and coconut groves and locally grown fruits such as sweet mango, pineapple and watermelon.  Farmers till their fields with lumbering mud-covered carabao, and there are acres of rice paddies, plus a surprising amount of cows, pigs and chickens!

And all this alongside secluded beaches and stunning coastal drives, with the constant backdrop of the ocean shimmering in the sun.  Water so clean and clear, it’s easy to spot the marine life that thrives in this remote part of the country.  …and if you’re looking for fresh barracuda or snapper to dine on, it doesn’t come fresher (or cheaper!) than this, with local fishermen still dripping wet from the ocean selling their day’s catch on the beaches.  Ideal for grilling at dusk as you enjoy the calm end of the day when the sky turns all shades of reds and pinks before the sun disappears behind Cebu mainland.

Pacijan Island is the largest of the four islands and is home to many of the great beaches – including the stunning coastline at Santiago Bay, Camotes – plus the beautiful setting of the freshwater Lake Danao. Connected by a long causeway through a dense mangrove forest to nearby Poro Island Camotes (your location for Bukilat Cave, Busay Waterfalls and Buho Rock), these two islands are by far the most popular for cheap accommodation.

Camotes Island Cebu

The small stunning islet of Tulang Diot is 500 meters north of Pacijan – just a quick 5 minute boat ride. And lastly is Ponson Island, greatly undiscovered as almost 2-hours from Pacijan, where locals largely survive by fishing.

Walk, swim, zipline, cliff-dive, go boating on the lake, island-hopping around the islands or diving… all the while soaking up the peaceful vibe, meeting the friendly locals, and appreciating the beauty of the Camotes Islands.

With the recent addition of a fast ferry direct from Cebu City, Camotes won’t stay unknown for long. Go beyond the usual Cebu and make Camotes, Philippines your next Asia adventure!

Below, you will find our Camotes tour blog with everything you need to know about the top Camotes tourist spots, where to go in Camotes Island surrounds as well as exactly where to stay in Camotes Island for your ultimate holiday!!

Top 15 Things To Do In Camotes Island Philippines

Here are the best Camotes Island tourist attraction options. Read through and select the ones that fit your interests and timeframe.

See Underwater Creatures While Scuba Diving

scuba diving

When you think of diving in the Philippines, Camotes is not top of your list – in fact it’s probably not even considered! The amazing Tubbataha Reefs Natural Park, Puerto Galera, Moalboal, even Anda in Bohol perhaps spring to mind … but Camotes might surprise you!

You’ll find a handful of basic dive shops across the islands and what awaits is an underwater paradise. Beautiful walls covered in sponges, colourful soft and hard corals, billowing sea fans, crinoids and numerous tropical marine species altogether put on a glorious show!

A “virgin” dive area – as Camotes is too far for most Cebu-staying tourists to hop to for a day’s diving – the dive sites are yours to discover alone. Except that is for the fish, with lionfish, anemonefish, angels, groupers and many other tropical fish swarming around you.

You’ll find technical wreck diving spots – such as the Boholana Princess – plus cave diving, alongside the more recreational dive spots. You can hope to see smaller sharks and, season dependent, pods of dolphins. And if you’re more interested in the smaller creatures, there’s wonderful nudibranch, anemona, sponges, leaf fish, gobbies, shrimp, crabs and… Well, there’s just so much to see!

Don’t forget your underwater camera, the colours are astounding, and consider adding in a night dive for some top adventure!

Try Snorkeling

snorkeling

Grab your fins and snorkel as the underwater world around the Camotes is equally as beautiful as the stunning islands are above land!

This group of four islands is still well off the usual tourist path and thus you’ll find some of the best snorkelling in all of Cebu province. We suggest that you take along your own equipment as there is little in the way of rental or tourist shops across the islands.  But the snorkeling spots are easy to reach – mostly just by swimming out from the shore – and we found very little current so it’s great for all the family to enjoy.

There’s lots to see, with shoals of colourful fish and some of the smaller reef life such as crabs and shrimps, alongside stunning corals, blue starfish and many sea fans. Just watch out for the crown of thorns starfish which, unfortunately, are attacking the reefs in some parts.

Tulang Diot has probably the best snorkeling, with its coral walls just offshore from the sweeping sandbank. Another great spot is in front of Camotes Flying Fish Resort, at Poro Island. But marine life is so rich here that you can almost take a snorkel anywhere you fancy, enjoying the crystal clear water and playful fish!

Go Island Hopping

Camotes Island Cebu

Enjoy a day of what is most definitely the best fun to be had in the Philippines… island-hopping on a local banca/pump boat, stopping off at stunning beaches, snorkeling in sapphire-blue waters, and dining on freshly caught fish! This is surely living the dream life, Philippines-style!

Start your trip by discovering amazing Santiago White Beach on Pacijan Island – possibly the most gorgeous beach we’ve seen in Cebu and definitely the most famous beach in Camotes. On par with the beaches of Boracay, saying it’s “wide” doesn’t do it justice!

Three small hotels share this public beach, and it’s sheltered on both sides by lush hills that have some interesting rock formations. Unfortunately, we visited post-typhoon when the beach was still covered in debris, but you could see how beautiful it would usually look!  There are a couple of cottages for rent and the water here is fabulous for swimming or snorkeling (look out for the many bright blue starfish).  And there’s a hotel to one side with a swimming pool available for day use that overlooks the whole bay.

The tidal range is dramatic at Santiago, creating an enormous sand bar at low tide, meaning the beach is ideal for a game of beach volleyball and there’s also a basketball court just to one side. Back in the water, you can try your hand at skimboarding or hire kayaks. But we found that most people just enjoy the pristine beach or hang at the open air seafood restaurants enjoying the relaxed vibe of this spectacular beach.

Back on your boat, and it’s a short hop of 15 minutes to the next beach – Mangodlong Rock Resort. There’s a minimal entrance fee – 30PHP per person – and you can enjoy taking photos at a small rock formation that has a giant octopus slide. There are 2-person kayaks to rent (150php for one hour) and a small swimming pool to cool off at.  We found everything being refurbished during our COVID-time visit (the pool and hotel rooms), thus expect all to be looking great once things reopen again!

Next up is our favourite spot – Tulang Diot. A 30-minute ride from Mangodlong, Tulang Diot is a postcard-perfect paradise island that has a picturesque sandbank at one end.  There’s a handful of small bamboo huts to rent, a grilling area and a small beach shop/restaurant selling noodles and local dishes.  We enjoyed some of the best snorkelling here and you can take a short exploration of the interior of the island before jumping back on your boat.

Time now for the history of Camotes Island at Mactang Beach on Poro Island – supposedly the spot where Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan landed in 1521, introducing Christianity to the country. Urban legend or fact… you can decide! But enjoy the beach, which is usually busy with local children swimming and fishermen working their nets.

And, if you have time, we recommend on a separate day heading out to the most remote of the islands – Ponson. Even quieter than the other islands, your boat captain will take you to secluded beaches and you can discover the interior mangrove forests.  Dependent on the sea it can take 1-2 hours to reach Ponson so you’ll need to plan in a full day but can always stop at Tulang Diot on the way back to enjoy the sunset.  At this time you’ll see the local fishermen heading out for their night fishing, with their bright lights sparkling on the horizon throughout the night.

Seeing Camotes by boat is one of the best things to do and should be top of your list of things to do in Camotes. Remember to barter a good deal (including a seafood bbq lunch) and ensure there are lifejackets on board. It’s also always best to actually view the boat before confirming your booking!

Take A Refreshing Dip At Busay Waterfalls

Busay Waterfalls

To the east of Poro Island you’ll discover Busay Falls. A small waterfall (we’re talking mini-sized!), it opens into a beautiful pool that is super refreshing for a quick swim, especially when you’re discovering the rest of the island on an organised tour or by motorbike.

You can dive from the surrounding rocks into the blue/green waters – around 10 feet deep near the waterfall. There’s also a bamboo bridge (very basic) that you can jump from and a hanging swing when we visited… But just do as the locals do!

And for young children, there are some concrete steps into the lower small pool so they can also play safely or they can chase the large frogs that we found hopping around here!

The walk to Busay Waterfalls

The highlight for us though was the stunning location – with a 5-minute walk from the main road through gorgeously lush forest.  You need to cross the shallow river three times before reaching the pools so it’s best to wear shoes that you don’t mind getting wet, and there are some slippery rocks to climb across.  Then suddenly you’re at the brilliantly blue/green pool surrounded by rich flora on all sides.  A really stunning Camotes spot, so vibrant with colour.  And we appreciated the cooler temperatures thanks to the towering trees with fresh air and the cool waters that made us feel alive!

Explore Lake Danao Park

Lake Danao Park

In the northern part of Pacijan Island, this famed guitar-shaped lake is often referred to as Lover’s Lake and is easily one of the most popular tourist attractions on the island.  However, we visited during COVID time and we had it all to ourselves!

If you love nature this will be a standout place for you, with the tranquil atmosphere only broken by bird song and the wind blowing through the trees. Diverse flora and fauna flourish here, some cultivated but mostly natural, and our kids adored watching the ducks diving down for long periods in search of fish.

Vegetables are grown including yams and sweet potato (which literally translates to “camote”). Indigenous medicinal plants are also grown near to the lake’s banks, and in the lake itself, freshwater fish such as the local tilapia thrive. Purple herons and migratory birds also call the lake home.

Boats at Lake Danao Park

Take a picnic, relax, or get out on the scenic lake. There’s a variety of boats for rent, including small rowing boats decked out to resemble large ducks, kayaks, paddleboats or you can join a sakanaw ride (a local-styled motor-powered catamaran that accommodates up to ten passengers and cruises the entire lake).

This one-hour cruise can be pre-arranged with the management of the park at the entrance or just wait at the jetty for the next boat. Then during your cruise, you can expect to stop at either of the lake’s two islets – Crocodile or Snake – for some nice photos.

Island middle of Lake Danao cruise

There’s a small local-styled bar that serves hot food and drinks, including fresh coconut juice. And if you’re with a large group, you can rent your own hut for a picnic or simply to hang out lakeside.  And for the children, there’s a mini zoo that seemed mainly full of monkeys and there were horses for short rides around the lake.

Zipline at Lake Danao Park

For more thrills, try the zipline that for just 200PHP shoots you over to another islet that sits farther away from the main park. Breathtaking views for sure, but you need to look quick as it’s a fairly short ride!

We found that most of the boats look in need of a little touch-up or repair, but the beauty of the lake makes this an outstanding place to visit. The staff are helpful and friendly, and the lunch we enjoyed on the lake ride was some of the best food we had in Camotes. And the zipline gives a unique twist to your Lake visit!

To reach the lake – the largest in all of Cebu Province – either rent a motorcycle or for large groups consider a van-hire for the day. There’s a checkpoint at the entrance to the lake where you’ll pay a notional entrance fee of around 15PHP per person, making a day at Lake Danao in Camotes one of the best value things to do across all the islands.

Take A Selfie At Buho Rock

Buho Rock Camotes Island Cebu

There are many stunning views around the Camotes, but Buho Rock Camotes on Poro Island is well-deservedly one of the most noted. The rawness of nature is on display here, with jagged  coral rocks rising from the azure waters. Strangely shaped like a ship, Bulho Rock is – when we visited – an abandoned resort that the local government cares for.

Get your cameras ready for gorgeous pictures from this natural viewing deck or watch the colourful reef fish below as they dart in and out of the rocks. And this being the Philippines, there’s native-style cottages to rent for lunchtime picnics or an afternoon tipple!

However, the best is yet to come, as the rocks are a favoured cliff-diving location. Locals, especially, think nothing of hurtling themselves from the high rocks into the calm sea below!

Buho Rock is an ideal afternoon venue for groups or families looking for somewhere to hang out, without the need for a beach or swim (unless you’re diving in!). There are lots of stairs to reach the rocks, so be ready for those, but the view – and especially as the warm late afternoon colours fill the sky and hit the rocks – are spectacular!

Pay Cultural Visits To St. Joseph Parish And Sto. Niño Church of Poro

St. Joseph Parish Camotes Island

The oldest church in Camotes, St Joseph Church can be found on Pacijan Island in the town of San Francisco. Dedicated to the Fatherhood of St Joseph, the church dates back to 1886 when a modest wooden church with a nipa (palm) roof was constructed. These days only the name remains as you’ll find a modern-day church that historically represents the birth of Christianization to the islands.

If possible, time your visit for the third Sunday of March when the Church celebrates the Soli-Soli festival with a parade of colourful dances, discos, live music presentations and beauty pageants!

One of the main landmarks in the area, you’ll easily spot the Church just minutes from the bay walk and the Causeway which links Poro and Pacijan Islands. And after your visit take the Causeway over to Poro to discover Sto. Niño Church – the “old stone Church of Poro”.

Sto. Niño Church of Poro

Poro was once the seat of the Spanish Government in the region and, similar to many of the old Spanish districts, the town revolves around a wonderful plaza where the Church and the Government Hall are located.

First built in 1849 under the supervision of two Spanish friars, the walls are made of thick coral stones. Wonderful engravings of eight-pronged suns, half and full moons and faux columns decorate the facade. Unfortunately, the original bell tower hasn’t survived and the current belfry slightly separate from the Church was added in 1963.   Alas, the interior is rather modern and garish, but the exterior makes it well worth a visit.

And Poro and the surrounding villages are some of the most beautiful we’ve seen in the Philippines. Twisting coastal roads take you through immaculate local villages, full of colourful flowers and plants, set alongside stunning sea views that stretch to Leyte and back to Pacijan and Cebu.  An unforgettable drive – whether by car, scooter or motorbike.

Add in a visit to Busay Caves after your church discoveries.

Go Spelunking At Bukilat Cave

Bukilat Cave, Camotes Island

A cave system in Tudela on Poro Island, Bukilat Cave has seven openings with the middle one large enough to allow light to enter the cave in atmospheric fashion. And the most prominent features are the various pools of water. Shallow, at only knee-deep level, the water is cool and refreshing but not freshwater as per other caves on the islands. This is brackish water, supposedly connected to the Camotes Sea.

Relatively underdeveloped, there’s a set of steps that take you to the pools  Stalactites and stalagmites are everywhere, and we found this a rather dramatic cave – almost resembling the interior of a large cathedral.

It came as no surprise to learn that back in the 70s Christian mass was often held here. And history tells that the cave was used by locals to shelter from the Japanese army during the Second World War, plus there’s even a fable about buried treasure!

Sit And Relax At Tulang Diot Island

Tulang Diot Island

Nicknamed “Little Boracay”, Tulang Diot Island is an absolute must-do during your Camotes stay. Literally translated as “Little Island”, Tulang is the reason many people visit Camotes. Soft fine white sand forms a large sandbank on one side of the island, giving it an almost Maldives appearance as you arrive by boat from Pacijan (a 5-minute crossing for 30php per person entrance fee).

You’ll find zero hotels on this gorgeous island, and you’ll most likely want to bring your own food and make arrangements with locals if you want things cooked… but that’s all part of the fun! Though you will find a couple of shacks selling snacks, drinks, kerosene for grilling and one small shop that sells noodles and cooked local dishes.

Tulang Diot Island Sandbar

What to do? Swim, snorkel, take lots of photos and relax – a perfect day at the beach. Rent a small bamboo hut for only 300php and grill fish at the communal area. Later, you can explore this 1.5km island by taking an easy hike to the small lighthouse which has a good view from the top. And if you’re there late in the afternoon get ready for an epic sunset, when you can also watch the daily flotilla of small fishing boats that depart from Pacijan out towards Leyte for overnight fishing.

Planning on camping overnight, then don’t worry as tents are provided.  But note that the island currently has electricity powered by a generator that’s switched off at 10pm – which means you’re in for some awesome star gazing!

The downside to being so beautiful is the island gets rather crowded during the middle of the day. Time your visit well – early morning or late afternoon to avoid the larger crowds. But staying overnight is probably the best way to experience the quiet and beauty of Tulang.

Tulang Diot Beach Hut Rental

If you’re dropping by as part of a longer island-hopping tour you’ll pay your environmental fee of 30PHP directly to the island’s shop.  Tents and cottages are the only options for overnight stays, all of which are offered at very reasonable rates. And finally, if you fancy a boat tour around Tulang Diot be sure to arrange it with a boatman from the smaller island once you arrive – it’s more than half the price of what’s promoted at Tulang Daku jetty!

Have A Swim At Santiago White Beach

Santiago White Beach

Located on Pacijan Island, Santiago Camotes is home to White Beach – the most famous beach across all the islands. Wide, clean, safe for swimming and with fine-white sand… It sure ticks all the boxes!

This tropical escape is popular with both locals and visitors, and is ideal for all age groups. Young children adore the wide sandbank that’s displayed at low tide. Older teens and adults enjoy the many water sports on offer (kayaks and diving), plus beach volleyball and basketball.

Groups of Filipino friends rent cottages and tents, grilling bbqs of fresh fish or chicken, usually singing karaoke tunes. The summer vibe is strong here, with music and laughter filling the air.  Yet the beach is rugged, and this is still a greatly undiscovered part of the Philippines thus don’t expect top facilities, plus part of the charm of the Camotes is everything happens at a slow pace.

A couple of rustic seafood restaurants open onto the beach for snacks and cold drinks. And there are three resort hotels (one with a great swimming pool that overlooks the bay) that share the beach, yet it rarely feels overcrowded. In fact, there was hardly anyone around when we visited over lunchtime.  Simply relax, unwind, eat, drink and swim in shallow shores that seem to never get deep, making this a perfect spot for children to paddle.

No trip to Camotes is complete without a visit to Santiago White Beach.

Visit Sleepy Pilar on Ponson Island

Ponson Island is without doubt the least visited of the islands that make up Camotes. There’s only one town to discover, Pilar, which is home to around 8,500 people.

10 kilometres long, the island remains uncommercialised and is remarkable for its many white-sand beaches. There’s cliff diving at Coraza’s Cliffyard Resort which, though not as high as that at Buho Rock, is still a fairly adrenaline-inducing thrill!

For divers, explore underwater at the Pilar Municipal Marine Park – previously awarded the prestigious “Most outstanding Marine Protected Area of the Philippines”. Or stay above the water and paddle a kayak around the stunning coastline.

This quiet island is a snippet of local life, with fishermen happy to say hello on the beach and local kids always smiling and greeting you. A slow-paced life, that is exaggerated by the calm seas, the hot days and the lack of other tourists. We found this to be a wonderful place and would definitely visit here again. Do note though, there’s almost no mobile signal or internet connection… so you actually have to talk to each other!

You’ll find a couple of low-budget hotels if you’re planning on making Ponson Island your base and, if so, check out the direct ferry from Danao City to Cawit Pilar.

Disconnect from our fast paced world and check out Pilar!

See The Cavern At Timubo Cave

On the northern end of Pacijan, Timubo Cave in Camotes is a great add-on to your Danao Lake Park trip. Slap bang in the middle of a farm growing corn and fruits, the cave surprisingly supplies freshwater to much of the nearby residents and is fabulous for a quick dip!

For sure the exterior doesn’t look like much – just a small hole in the ground, with a cement barrier leading down into blackness, but the interior is splendid with a good number of stalactites and stalagmites. The large cavern covers a pool of water that is supposedly 6ft deep and we enjoyed a swim here, but as expected it’s rather chilly!

If you don’t fancy a dip, discover the cavern but be careful as the pathway can be rather slippery. There’s natural light poking through the cave in many places and some electric lights, yet some parts are still rather dark.

We couldn’t recommend this for anyone travelling with small children, also anyone who might feel claustrophobic by the small entrance to reach the cavern, and note there’s a knee-deep pool of water to cross before you reach the larger main pool.

A little difficult to locate, you might need to make this part of an organised tour or don’t be shy to ask locals once you reach Barangay Sonog Town, and expect to pay a small entrance fee of around 15PHP.

Go In Search of Dolphins

dolphin camote

Not specifically advertised anywhere on the islands as an excursion, we happened to find more dolphins around the Camotes Islands than anywhere we’ve yet been to in the Philippines!

Rent a pump boat early morning – around 5.30-7am – and ask your captain to head out between Cebu and Pacijan.  You’re in for a treat as we saw at least 8 different pods during the course of 2 hours, with many spinning and flipping in the air.

Our hotel owner also mentioned that they are common to see around the reefs once the heat of the day has gone, so keep a beady eye out for these playful creatures!

Admire The Sunset At Mangodlong Beach

Mangodlong Paradise Beach Resort

A Philippines vacation is incomplete without an epic sunset picture and there’s nowhere better for that in the Camotes than at Mangodlong Paradise Beach Resort, in Mangodlong, Camotes Island.

This 4-star resort has an infinity pool that faces the sea and a small beach with brilliant white sand. Surrounded by Maldives-like villas with thatched roofs and lush-green gardens, the hotel is an absolute delight.  Play pool in the main Bamboo Restaurant and Bar area, or grab a drink and settle down for the coming sunset at the Pool Bar.

Available for day-entry at 300php per person, you won’t be disappointed!

Mangodlong Paradise Beach Resort infinity pool

Get A Tan At Bakhaw Beach

After your fun at Lake Danao, why not relax the rest of the day at nearby Bakhaw Beach. A little off track, this is a less visited rustic beach that is ideal for anyone hoping for a peaceful sunbathe or swim.

You’ll drive through coconut plantations and banana groves to reach here, along unmade but well-traveled dirt roads. Suddenly, you’re faced with a long stretch of white sand bordered by clear blue water on one side and a long line of coconut trees on the other. Yet another picture-perfect Camotes beach!

Undeveloped, unspoiled, there’s little here to spend your money on. Bring along your own snacks and water, set up your beach towel in the shade of a palm tree or rent a small nipa-hut cottage, enjoying this slice of Philippines paradise!

If you feel a little restless, there are small paddle boats for some fun. There are also some rubber tubes – possibly tires from old vehicles – to rent, for floating in. Definitely nothing too energetic happens at Bakhaw Beach!

Located about 35 minutes from Consuelo Port, you might find this best by taking a habal-habal (riding on the back of a motorbike). Alternatively, rent a tricycle (motorbike with sidecar) or your own motorbike/scooter and self-discover this hidden gem of a beach.

Best Place To Stay In Camotes Island

So, where to stay in Camotes Cebu? When it comes to places to stay in Camotes you might well feel slightly confused. With four islands to choose from which island is best to make your base? We recommend focusing on Pacijan or Poro as these two islands hold the majority of the attractions.

Accommodation is mainly budget-friendly yet there’s still a couple of standout options and to help you out we’ve listed below a select few – a budget, mid-range and more expensive option.

BEST – Camotes Island Ocean Heaven Resort Review

camotes island map with tourist spots

Room types include Family Room with Balcony for up to 4 people, a Family Room for 6 people, Deluxe Double or Twin Room with Pool Access for up to 2 people, plus Superior or Standard for 2 people.

MID-RANGE –  Mangodlong Paradise Resort Review

This 28-room resort is often pictured on Camotes promotions due to its splendid private beach. Jutting out slightly from the shoreline, the stretch of sand is surrounded by the pool on one side and the azure sea on the other. Gorgeous!

This Mangodlong Camotes Cebu, Pacijan Island accommodation comes with Asian and modern inspired room styles. Built alongside the private beach or around the large infinity pool, room types fit all budgets and group-sizes. You’ll find Standard, Deluxe and Beachfront, to Cabana with one or two bedrooms, plus a Two-Bedroom and highly luxurious Paradise Suite.

The Bamboo Cafe is available for afternoon coffee, or enjoy a sundowner at the Sunset Bar or Pool Bar. Relax on white lounge chairs under the shade of umbrellas, savouring the peace of this quiet resort.

For meals, the onsite restaurant offers a buffet breakfast and all-day dining menu which has perhaps the widest selection of food across the entire island – including salmon and steak.  And there’s a gaming area where guests can enjoy billiards, plus WiFi is free but limited due to a generally poor reception across the island.

BUDGET – Villa Marquez Review

camotes island map with tourist spots

At the northern tip of Pacijan Island, close to Lake Danao, Bakhaw Beach and opposite Tulang Diot, you’ll find a little slice of paradise. Villa Marquez is a 4-star guest house that is a home-away-from-home Camotes budget option.

Air-conditioned rooms come with garden views and free WiFi. Mainly favoured by couples – for the large Double or budget-double rooms – Villa Marquez also has one Family Room with bathroom that’s good for 6 people in 3 double beds. Accommodation is clean, spacious and features spacious balconies and patio areas.

There’s a seaview restaurant onsite – with wonderful paella and home-made thirst-quenching drinks, plus a continental or a-la-carte breakfast with fruits and hot pastries. You’ll also find a BBQ if you wish to grill some fresh seafood.

Other services include free parking, room service and dry cleaning services.

Camotes Island With Kids

Zipline at Lake Danao Park

Hey kids, we’re going to be spending a few days on vacation in the Philippines, hanging out at various paradise beaches with fun water sport options, volleyball and basketball. Oh yes, also we’ll be visiting one of the largest freshwater lakes in the country where we’ll rent kayaks and maybe have lunch onboard a catamaran in the middle of the lake.

And we’re planning on going island-hopping to some spectacular beaches, snorkelling with lots of reef fish, perhaps even cliff-diving in a few locations, and there’s a small island with a massive sandbank to discover.

If that’s not enough, there’s a mini-zoo, a short zipline, fishing, caves with pools and massive caverns, a small waterfall and – strangely – a massive orange Octopus slide into the ocean!

So, if your kids are anything like mine, they’ll find Camotes a blast! Young or teenaged, there’s something for everyone to enjoy across the islands, with the gentle slope of Santiago White Beach especially perfect for toddlers and younger children.

Put the iPads away, cell phones down and immerse in nature, healthy fresh air and enjoy the warm sun!

9 BEST CAMOTES ISLAND TOURIST SPOTS (2023)

Jun 16, 2022 | Philippines

Santiago white beach, santiago bay camotes, camotes island, camotes island resort, santiago bay, camotes tourist spots, santiago bay beach

Camotes Island is a picturesque – and in our opinion, wholly underrated – island off the east coast of Cebu. Whilst a popular weekend destination for Cebu City residents, Camotes Island has stayed off the radar of foreign and even most domestic tourists. We personally think it has a lot to offer, which is why we’ve rounded up the 9 best Camotes Island tourist spots to check off your list if you’re planning a visit to this beautiful island.

Camotes Island is actually comprised of four separate islands – the main three which are Pacijan, Poro and Ponson, as well as Tulang Diot, a tiny island off the northern tip of Pacijan. Pacijan and Poro islands are connected by a causeway, so it’s easy to travel between the two on land. Ponson is separated from the others, and for this reason we didn’t get to explore it as we stuck to the two that were easy to go between.

Best time to go

Tourist spots, how to get there, where to stay, what to bring, best time to visit camotes island cebu.

Camotes Islands is a popular weekend destination for mainland Cebu, so we recommend avoiding weekends and public holidays for a much quieter island. You’ll also want to aim for the dry season from November – April.

How to get to Camotes Island Cebu

The most common and convenient way to get to Camotes Island is by fast craft from Mactan, Cebu. There are ferries twice daily, and it only takes 1.5 hours to reach Consuelo port on Pacijan Island. If you would like to bring your own vehicle to Camotes Island, then you can catch the roro ferry from Danao, which is only about an hour north of Cebu City.

9 Best Camotes Island Tourist Spots

1. camotes island caves.

One of the best things about Camotes Island Cebu is its density of caves. There are at least eight caves that are known about, and likely many more yet to be discovered. These caves are major Camotes Island tourist spots, and we’ve been lucky enough to visit five out of eight.

The most popular – and biggest – of these caves is Bukilat Cave, an enormous subterranean cavern with a natural body of water at its base. Bukilat Cave gets all the limelight because of how large it is, but the other caves are also very interesting with some even better to swim in.

Our personal favourite is Amazing Island Cave, a deep hole of insanely blue water and the perfect spot to practice your freediving. To check out all the caves on Camotes, read our ultimate guide to the 5 best Camotes Island caves here.

2. Santiago White Beach

The Camotes Island coastline is ringed with stunning beaches, the most famous of which is Santiago White Beach, also known as Santiago Bay. This beautiful cove stretches out for hundreds of metres, and when the tide is high it makes for the perfect spot to wade in crystal clear, shallow water.

If you like to keep active at the beach, you can join a game of beach volleyball or rent a kayak from the beach vendors. And, if you stay until sunset you can watch the sky turn golden as you enjoy some fresh grilled seafood and maybe even a bit of karaoke if your heart desires.

To make the most of your visit to Santiago White Beach, we recommend spending a night or two at Santiago Bay Garden & Resort. Not only is it the premier resort on Camotes Island, but it has a killer view overlooking Santiago White Beach.

3. Bakhaw Beach

If you fancy a more secluded and quieter beach, then Bakhaw Beach is probably more your style. It’s one of the most underrated Camotes Island tourist spots, but definitely our favourite beach on the island. A mostly undeveloped coastline of coconut trees runs along the length of powder-soft white sand and turquoise waters.

There are no facilities at Bakhaw Beach, so you might want to pack a picnic lunch and some water. The road also isn’t very well developed so if you’re driving a car you’ll have to park it at a nearby house and walk the rest of the way through what we presume is private property. As it’s so quiet, you likely won’t run into any other tourists, but be prepared to share this paradise with the locals.

4. Tulang Diot Island

The tiny island of Tulang Diot Island is one of the best Camotes Island tourist spots thanks to its amazing white sandy beach and azure blue water. Separated from Pacijan Island by a narrow channel of water, you’ll need to hire a boat to take you across to Tulang Diot Island. It’s only a 5 – 10 minute trip from Tulang Dako Beach on the mainland to Tulang Diot Beach on the islet.

The facilities on the island are very minimal, but that’s all part of its charm. There’s a small community that call Tulang Diot Island home, but aside from that there is very little on the island. Once there, you can find a spot on the beach and enjoy the pristine conditions for snorkelling and beach bumming. If you plan on spending the day there, there’s not much in the way of food so be sure to pack a lunch or stock up on snacks at a sari-sari store on the island.

Entrance Fee: 40 PHP boat fare – roundtrip 10 PHP environmental fee

5. Buho Rock Resort

Buho Rock Resort is more than just accommodation, it’s one of the most popular Camotes Island tourist spots for thrill seekers. The resort itself isn’t the attraction, it’s the adjacent rock connected by bridge which draws in the crowd.

Buho Rock Resort has been developed as a cliff diving destination, with multiple platforms of varying heights for adrenaline junkies. You can try your hand at diving into the vibrant blue sea, or find a seat at a picnic table and watch the action unfold. Keep in mind it’s best to visit Buho Rock Resort during high tide if you’re planning to jump.

Fortunately, if you’re wanting to explore the rockpools below but don’t have the desire to send it off a cliff, you can take a staircase down to the bottom and check out the surrounding rock pools.

Entrance Fee: When we visited it was under construction so there was no entrance fee but be prepared to pay around 20 PHP if it has reopened.

6. Lake Danao

Lake Danao is another must-visit Camotes Island tourist spot to add to your itinerary. This serene lake is in the northern part of Pacijan Island, about 15 minutes from San Francisco Port. Affectionately known by locals as Lovers Lake, Lake Danao has a reputation for being a popular date destination for young couples.

The best way to enjoy Lake Danao is by boat, kayak, or other types of interesting floatation devices available for hire at several rentals along the shore. If you’re looking for more of a thrill, there’s also a zipline from one side of the lake to the other. 7. Busay Falls

What’s a travel guide without a waterfall! Busay Falls is a small but beautiful cascade on Poro Island in Camotes. One of only two waterfalls in Camotes – Panganuron Falls being the other – Busay Falls is a popular destination for both locals and tourists.

You’ll only be able to take your motorbike or car so far, and then you’ll be required to hike around 10 minutes to Busay Falls. The hike isn’t terribly challenging, but it does require two river crossings so be sure to wear shoes that you don’t mind getting wet.

Whilst not a very big waterfall, the water at Busay Falls is a beautiful Gatorade blue like many of the other waterfalls in Cebu, making it an awesome spot to have a refreshing dip. At the top of the first waterfall is a cave with another tier and swimming hole inside, which you can potentially climb beyond, but we never made it that far.

8. AGORA Market & San Francisco Bay Walk

Your trip to Camotes Island in Cebu wouldn’t be complete without a visit to the AGORA Market along the San Francisco Baywalk, one of the top Camotes Island tourist spots. Located immediately before the causeway from Pacijan to Poro Island, here you’ll find an array of delicious street food, fresh produce, dried fish and even toys.

It’s best to visit AGORA Market in the early evening once the weather has cooled down. You can take a stroll along the baywalk before grabbing a bite to eat at a multitude of vendors, selling everything from burgers and barbecue to pungko-pungko and lechon.

9. Century Old Tree

Last up on our list of Camotes Island tourist spots is the Century Old Tree in Tudela on Poro Island. As its name suggests, this 100+ year old Acacia tree is a sight to behold, with sprawling branches and widespread roots.

At some point, the local government constructed a basketball court beside the tree, but after years of neglect, the court looks almost as old as the tree itself! The whole scene gives off very post-apocalyptic vibes and is an awesome spot to snap a photo whilst this majestic tree still stands.

Camotes Island Itinerary + Tourist spots

Posted on November 3, 2019 | Julie J. |

Last Updated on November 5, 2022

Quiet and beautiful Camotes islands are made of three main islands: Pacijan, Poro, and Ponson. They are named after the camotes or sweet potatoes, which thrive abundantly on the islands there. Ponson is pretty remote with its inhabitants living a really basic life, it’s also hard to get there as there is no regular boat going there. The majority of the Camote Islands tourist spots are on Poro and Pacijan. Both islands are more developed but it’s still mostly villages, there’s no ATM there and frequent power outages. These two islands are rich in springs, waterfalls, and caves, Pacijan also offers some nice beaches. The islands are still really far from being a big tourist destination. Most people coming to visit are people from Cebu. The people are really nice and super welcoming. Read on to for your Camotes Island Itinerary and to learn all about Camotes Island tourist spots.

Camotes Islands Tourist Spots

Poro island tourist spots, bukilat cave.

Bukilat cave, Poro, Camotes Island Itinerary and tourist spots, Philippines

Bukilat is a really nice cave, not really deep underground but really large, and with a big lake you can swim in and openings to the sky, creating a mystical atmosphere. In the 70s mass used to be held there. The water is coming from the sea, so if you go during low tide (in the morning) who won’t see much water, it’s better to go in the afternoon.

The water of the cave is believed by locals to have healing effects.

Busay falls in Tudela

Busay Fall, Tudela, Poro, Camotes Island Itinerary and tourist spots, Philippines

These falls are amazing, the color of the water is just beautiful, you must add it to your Camotes Island itinerary. Try to go in the morning during the week so you’ll have more chances to be alone. It’s really refreshing, pools had been carved out of the rocks, but it still has a ”wild” touch. You can also jump off the cliff, but be careful it’s not really deep. It’s an easy trek, about 10 minutes through banana plantations from the parking lot.

Mactan beach

Mactan Beach, Poro, Camotes Island Itinerary and tourist spots, Philippines

The beach here is far from being amazing but its historical importance makes it worth a visit…

In Filipino colonization History, Mactan recalls an important battle that took place on April 27th, 1521, so prior to colonization. It marks the first victory of Filipino people over the Spaniards.

In March 1521, Magellan landed in Cebu, looking for a new way to get to Moluccas Islands. He “discovered” the Philippines. He befriended Cebu’s king who converted to Christianity and ordered the other chiefs to convert and help Magellan. One of the chiefs of Mactan island , close to Cebu, refused, so Magellan set toward the island with a troop of Spaniards to fight them. They were outnumbered and lost, Magellan was killed during this battle.

This is the official version but recent findings point to another site for the battle: Poro Island in Camotes, and most precisely in Mactan Beach. History students found documents stating that it took 2 hours for Magellan to get to Mactan Island, where it should have taken him only 30 minutes. Moreover a lot of Spanish artifacts have been found on Mactan Beach in Poro, unfortunately, they are now privately owned and you can only see them during special celebrations on Camotes.

Your Camotes Island itinerary wouldn’t be complete without a visit to Mactan Beach.

Poro church

Poro Church, Camotes, Philippines

Poro church is about 150 years old, the facade is made of stones but the rest is made of wood. Worth a stop if you’re passing by.

Pacijan Island tourist spots:

Santiago bay.

Santiago's Bay, Pacijan, Camotes, Philippines

Santiago is a nice and quiet beach, good for swimming, you’ll just have to walk a while to get deep into the water. There are two resorts bordering it and a couple of beach restaurants with affordable prices.

Lake Danao, Pacijan, Camotes, Philippines

Lake Danao is a really nice place to relax, you can rent for 50 pesos per head a kayak or a paddle boat or take a boat ride for 700 pesos (good for 10 people). There’s not a lot of ways to access the lake, the easiest is to go to Green Lake park activity center. From there you can walk for some time along the lake. There’s also a nice tower deck where you can get a nice view of the lake.

Timubo Cave

Timubo Cave, Pacijan, Camotes Island Tourist Spots, Philippines

Timubo cave was a really nice surprise for me, I wasn’t planning on visiting it, but passing by, I thought, why not? I’m so happy I stopped, this cave definitively has a magical touch. You have to go down for about 75 meters deep underground, there are steps all the way so it’s easy. Brass yourself because, as you go down, it gets more and more humid and hot. You’ll have to go through two small pools of water, and then you get to the bigger pool. It’s super nice, you can swim there and go farther into the cave, try to bring a headlamp because the light doesn’t go all the way to the end of the cave. It’s a bit deep in some parts but you can mostly walk everywhere.

Tulang Island

Tulang Island, Camotes island itinerary, Philippines

Tulang Island is super nice, it’s a really small island with only a couple of people living on it, it’s mostly jungle and at the tip some white sand beaches. It is also a good spot for snorkeling. You can take a bangka for 20 pesos. Unfortunately, I couldn’t go there because a typhoon was coming but you can easily see it from Pacijan, it’s really close.

Borromeo or Bakhaw Beach

Bakhaw Beach, Pacijan, Camotes island tourist spot, Philippines

This beach is one of my favorite Camotes Island tourist spots, it’s secluded and coming as close as it gets to a picture-perfect beach. The sand is white and thin and the water is crystal clear. Only down point is that it would need some cleaning, but it’s mostly seaweed and not trash, so it makes it ok.

The holy crystal cave is no longer operating, it’s under “new management” and was closed at the time of writing.

Rocky beach in Poro, Camotes island itinerary, Philippines

Camotes Islands Itinerary

Two full days are sufficient to explore both Poro and Pacijan and all the Camotes Island tourist spots, you can add a day if you want to relax at the beach. On the first day, you can explore Poro Island. In the morning visit the church then head to Mactan Beach. After lunch, go to Busay Fall and finish your day visiting Bukilat cave. The next day, explore Pacijan. Start at Santiago Bay, then head for Danao Lake, you can have lunch there. In the afternoon, visit Timubo Cave, next go to Tulang Island if the weather allows it, and finish the day watching the sunset at Bakkaw Beach.

Camotes Islands Itinerary: How to get around

The best way to explore the island is by motorbike, there’s almost no public transportation and it’s really hard to get information about it. When you get off the boat there are sometimes buses that are on it and that cross the island to drop passengers off. You can hitch a ride with them. Otherwise, you should be able to hire a motorbike, you should pay 100 pesos maximum to San Francisco. Bargain hard because they’ll charge more for tourists.

To rent a motorbike you can call Jims (09265015537) he’s a really nice and honest guy, or go in front of Isobella’s Inn in San Francisco. The price is 500 pesos for 24hours, they also usually can do half days. You’ll only find semi-automatic bikes for rent and helmets are hard to find. The roads are really good, some part may get muddy if it has been raining for a while though.

Camotes Islands Itinerary: Where to stay

There’s plenty of resorts there for about 1000 pesos, most of them are on Agoda, be careful with the “beachfront” especially on Poro Island, where it’s mostly cliffs and rocky beaches.

If you are on a budget you can stay in Alyanarah (300 pesos a night), in San Francisco, the main town. It’s a central location and from there it’s easy to rent a bike and explore the islands. The hotel is really basic and a bit noisy but the WiFi is super good.

How to get to Camotes Islands

From Cebu, you can take an express boat from the port for about 600 pesos or you can take a ferry in Danao for 200 pesos. To get to Danao from Cebu, take a jeepney (30 pesos) or an air-con van in front of SM mall.

There are also boats coming from Ormoc in Leyte .

Camotes Islands, Cebu

The name itself is intriguing. It sounds like Kamote , which means sweet potato. Does this island have many sweet potatoes? I’m not sure. But this island has much to offer than a root vegetable. I will share those with you.

But before that, I would like to show you that this is not just an Island, but a group of islands . Camotes is composed of four islands: Pacijan , Poro , Ponson and Tulang . The first two are connected with a bridge. That being said, you can explore the two main islands easily.

Where to Stay in Camotes

Mangodlong Paradise Resort :

Last April 2021, we stayed at Mangodlong Paradise Resort .

We only stayed in the resort for our whole stay. We didn’t go out and explore the island since it was not our first-time visit. And also because we want to have less contact with people just to be safe since it is still pandemic.

I enjoyed the resort a lot and here are the things I like in the resort aside from their wonderful accommodation:

  • They have a restaurant inside and the food is delicious. No need to go outside.
  • The pool is massive.
  • The beach is beautiful and exclusive.
  • You can use their kayak for free.
  • You can book a ticket for Jomalia Shipping at their reception.
  • They accept Credit Card! I prefer using my card so this is big plus for me.

Please note that the internet connection in this area is not great so if you want to work, that might be a problem. But if you want to disconnect and enjoy this paradise, then it will be perfect!

You can book the resort below:

Accommodations in Mangodlong, Himensola (near Consuelo Port):

  • Mangodlong Rock Resort
  • Coco Grove Nature Resort and Spa
  • Camotes Ocean Heaven Resort

Accommodations near Santiago Beach:

  • Santiago Bay Garden and Resort
  • Camotes Backpackers Hostel
  • Masamayor’s Beach House and Resort
  • Pito’s Sutokil & Bamboo Rock Resort

Places to visit in Camotes Islands

1. santiago bay beach.

Santiago Bay

Santiago Beach offers a vast shoreline. Not to mention the fine sand! You can walk the beach strip from end to end.

On the right side, facing the ocean, there’s a beautiful rock formation where you can swim. Most of the time it is low tide, but there’s a right time to swim; around 10 AM. I must warn you that, it will be scorching hot.

On the other side, you can get a delicious meal in Pito’s Sotokil at a reasonable price. During my first visit (few years ago), there are a lot of people, but believe me, the long wait will be worth it once the food is served. Also, this side of the island offers a beautiful sunset.

At night, it is good to stay outside and watch the stars. Sounds cheesy and romantic. Haha. But I would like to share with you that I am very happy I did that. I had. change to see shooting star during one of my first visit here.

2. Buho Rock

Camotes Islands, Cebu

For an entrance of Php20.00 . You can see a beautiful view from the top. Going down, you can experience cliff jumping up to 50 feet. I even saw Korean kids jumping from 15 feet jump. That was awesome. If you don’t want to try the cliff jump, you can swim to the other side where there are amazing rock formations.

3. Lake Danao

Camotes Islands, Cebu

Aside from the beach, this is my favorite part of the island.

Lake Danao offers such a beautiful scenery. The best part is you can explore it more with paddling rides, you should take the kayak. It will cost Php50.00 each person. It is one of the best things to do here.

During my first visit, my friends and I had a little competition about who will get first to the islet. It was exhausting!

Also, there are food stalls at the Lake. Take some food and refreshments to bring back those energies you exerted from kayaking.

4. Timubo Cave

Camotes Islands, Cebu

One of the caves in Camotes. You have to walk a little bit to reach the water. Inside, you can see a Grotto. The water is cold. Also, it is better to be here without too much people.

The entrance fee is Php20.00.

5. Paraiso Cave

Camotes Islands, Cebu

This cave is already developed. Quite small than Timubo cave, but if you like caves that much you can’t also miss this.

The entrance fee is Php50.00.

6. Bukilat Cave

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Kalyka Carcel (@kalicarcel)

Bukilat Cave is very secluded but I guess it is worth it to visit. The sunlight from the roof opening makes the whole cave looks amazing inside.

The cave is in the municipality of Tudela.

The Entrance fee is Php20.00

7. Holy Crystal Cave

Another cave on the island. It is located in Brgy. Union, San Francisco, Camotes.

No entrance fee, just donations. So please gave a reasonable amount for the guide since it will take 1.5 hours to tour the 8 levels of the cave.

It is better to tour the place with not more than 5 people. The cave offers great formations of stalagmites, maybe the reason it is named Holy Crystal Cave.

8. Busay Falls

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Deseret Pleños (@abcdesay)

This three-level falls with a little pool has natural clear water. It will take a 10-minute hike to get there.

The entrance fee is Php10.00.

9. Panganuron Falls

Panganuron Falls is located in Poro Island. You will have a 45-minute walk to get there. Do not forget to wear a proper hiking shoes. It will help you be more comfortable on our way to the falls.

Just ask the locals to guide you on your way in order for you not to get lost.

10. Tulang Diot Island

Remember the 4 islands? Well, this is the smallest island in Camotes. It will only take 10-15 minutes to get here for a fair of Php20.00 back and forth.

Tulang Diot island offers fine white sand and crystal water.  Also, you can spend the night and camp here.

Tip: Do not rent the boat, it will cost you much.

Other Beaches in Camotes

  • Mangodlong Beach at Mangodlong, Heminsulan, San Francisco, Camotes
  • Borromeo Beach at Bakhaw, Esperanza
  • Bakhaw Beach at San Francisco (Entrance Fee: Php10.00)

Best Beaches in Camotes Island

View this post on Instagram A post shared by 👸🏻 (@eloisenrqz)

When thinking about Camotes, the first thing that we can think of is the white sand in Santiago Bay. However, not known to many, there are a lot more beaches on Camotes Island.

Santiago Bay Beach

Santiago Bay Beach is the most popular beach on Camotes Island. You can find a lot of resorts which have a good view of this white sand beach. If you want to spend the day here, you can also rent cottages and tables by the beach. Moreover, there are also restaurants nearby. The beach is perfect for families and kids because of its shallow water.

Mangodlong Beach

Mangodlong Beach consists of a white sand beach and turquoise water. It can be accessed through Mangodlong Paradise Beach Resort, a private resort located in Heminsula, San Francisco, Camotes Island. The beachfront in Mangodlong Rock Resort also shares the same beauty with the beach found in Paradise Beach Resort as it is located just a stone’s throw away from each other.

Bakhaw Beach

Bakhaw Beach is a secluded beach located in Esperanza, San Francisco. Just like the rest of the beaches on the island, Bakhaw Beach also has a white sand beach but aside from that, it has a very natural and raw charm. Tourists who visit here enjoy the serenity of the place and the little to no entrance fee.

Esperanza Beach

Esperanze Beach shares the same shoreline with Bakhaw Beach so automatically, this beach is as beautiful as the other. This beach, unfortunately, is not intended for relaxation since it is mainly a docking port for fishing boats.

Tulang Diot Beach

Tulang Diot is an islet located across Tulang Dako. While Tulang Dako serves as a docking port for the fishing community, Tulang Diot serves as a tourist location where anyone can relax and swim in the clear seawater. Both have beautiful white sand beaches though. To get to Tulang Diot, you need to take a boat from Tulang Dako.

What makes Tulang Diot special is the sandbar that appears during low tide and disappears during high tide. Guests can enjoy limited access to cottages in the area.

Mactang Beach

What makes Mactang Beach one of the best beaches to visit in Camotes is the controversy that surrounds it. It is said that the historical Battle of Mactan actually took place in Mactang in Poro, Camotes Island, and not in Opon (now known as Mactan, Cebu). Mactang, Camotes even has artifacts in their municipal museum which are said to have existed during the time of Lapulapu. If you too are curious about this claim, you can check out Mactang in Poro, Camotes Island.

The most popular resort you can find in Buho Beach is Buho Rock Resort. It is very famous for its cliff diving spot. This is why it is one of the best beaches on Camotes Island.

Camotes has beautiful white sand beaches like Santiago White Beach and Tulang Diot. A lot of resorts also have their own private beaches where you can lounge the entire afternoon. Sunsets are also immaculate in Camotes and are best viewed along the beach. Check here to book accommodations with the best sunset and beach view .

Tulang Diot has an entrance fee of PHP 10 per head. Cottage rental is PHP 500 per day and tables cost PHP 150 per day.

Watersports in Lake Danao

Lake Danao is said to be the biggest natural lake in Cebu. And because of its very romantic ambiance, Lake Danao is also hailed as the Lover’s Lake. You can do all sorts of activities in Lake Danao like kayaking, boating, and even horseback riding. Lake Danao opens from 6 AM to 6 PM, daily. The entrance fee costs PHP 15 per head (excluding the rate of each ride). Click here to book a Camotes private tour .

Cliff diving in Buho Rock

The rock formation in Buho Rock is the most popular cliff-diving site in Camotes. In fact, there are two diving boards in Buho Rock where one is higher than the other. To enter the site, you must pay the entrance fee of PHP 20 (adults ) and PHP 10 (kids). You can also have a little picnic in the area since they allow outside foods and drinks.

Aside from the water activities, you can also explore caves in Camotes. Don’t worry though because these caves are easily accessible– usually with concrete stairs. There are 4 popular caves in Camotes but as I was told, locals keep discovering new cave entrances on the island. Here are the caves you can explore in Camotes:

  • Paraiso Cave – PHP 50 per head
  • Holy Crystal Cave – free entrance
  • Bukilat Cave – PHP 20 per head
  • Timobo Cave – PHP 15

Travel tips

Travel guide in Camotes Island

  • I would highly suggest to rent a motorbike or your own ride during your stay in Camotes since tourist attractions in Camotes are located everywhere in the island. Renting your own means of transportation will help you save time and money.
  • Bring enough cash. ATMs (most especially international ATMs ) are rare in the island. And even if you can find one, it usually runs out of cash or undergoing a maintenance. Majority of the establishments in Camotes are operating in a cash only basis so you can’t really rely on your credit/debit cards for paying your bills.
  • Bring a dry bag most especially when going caving. You can also wear an aqua shoes instead of slippers.
  • Travel responsibly. Make sure to follow minimum health protocols and sanitize all the time. Be mindful of your trashes and do not leave anything behind.

Santiago Bay is one of the top tourist attractions in Camotes Island . With its unique blue waters, white sand, and crystal clear water, it will certainly be an unforgettable experience you will never forget. The coast of Camotes Island is lined with beautiful beaches, with Santiago White Beach, also called Santiago Bay. This beautiful cove is hundreds of meters long, and when the tide is high, it is the perfect place to walk in shallow, clear water.

If you like to stay active at the beach, you can rent a kayak or join a game of beach volleyball. And if you stay until sunset, you can watch the sky turn golden while you eat fresh seafood on the grill and, if you want, sing karaoke.

2. Bukilat Cave

Bukilat Cave Camotes Island Philippines. Camotes Island Tourist Spot

Bukilat Cave is one the most popular Camotes Island tourist spot. Tourists can find a variety of sinkholes, pools and limestone formations inside this cave. The Belfry pool is the most popular feature inside Bukilat Cave because of its phenomenal formation.

Bukilat is by far the biggest of all the caves in Camotes, and it’s the one you should take advantage of. It’s one of the most popular places in Camotes Island, and people come from all over to see this underground site. Going down a short set of rocky steps, you can get to Bukilat Cave, full of stalagmites, stalactites, and rock formations.

A shallow tidal pool is at the center of Bukilat Cave, so the best time to visit is when the tide is high enough to walk in. At the back of the cave, there is an open skylight where you can see trees and low-hanging vines.

3. Lake Danao

Lake Danao. Camotes Island Tourist Spot

Lake Danao is one of the most beautiful lakes in the Philippines and one of the most attractive tourist attractions in Camotes Island.

Lake Danao is north of Pacijan Island, one of the smaller islands in the Camotes Islands in the province of Cebu.

By boat, ferry, or other watercraft, it takes about two hours to get to Camotes. If you are coming from Cebu City, you should take a ferry from the port of Danao on the mainland of Cebu.

The lake looks like a guitar, and it’s a park where you can get to the lake. It is a popular in Camotes Island tourist spot.

4. Paraiso Cave

Paraiso Cave. Camotes Island Tourist Spot

Located in the northern tip of Camotes Island, Paraiso Cave is a massive ocean cave that flows from one end to the other. It is a relatively easy hike down to the cave, but it’s fairly strenuous. It is one of the top tourist attractions in Camotes Island.

Paraiso Cave, which has a turquoise swimming hole deep underground, is another amazing cave in Camotes. The most developed cave on Camotes Island tourist spot is Paraiso Cave, a restaurant and resort built around it. There are places to sit carved into the rocks underground, so if you don’t mind being squished, you can spend time in the cave.

The water in Paraiso Cave is so clear that if you didn’t know better, you might think it’s only a foot deep. If you go when the tide is high, you’ll be up to your chest in some of the clearest water you’ve probably ever seen.

5. Amazing Island Cave

The Amazing Island Cave of Camotes is one of the top tourist attraction in Camotes Island. It’s a cave with a large opening that welcomes hundreds of tourists every year. Amazing Island Cave is by far our favorite cave on Camotes Island tourist spot. The name says it all, and it lives up to its promise. Unlike the others, there is much space to swim, and it’s deep enough that we recommend you bring a mask and snorkel.

At the entrance of Amazing Island Cave, a narrow channel is already deep enough for a good swim. Just watch your head because it’s a tight space, and we bumped ours a few times on the rocks. If you swim through the channel, it opens up into a large, deep pool. Here is where you’ll want to have your mask and snorkel! And don’t worry if you’re not the best swimmer; you can use the life jackets there.

6. Timubo Cave

Timubo Cave. Camotes Island Tourist Spot

Timubo Cave is by far the least developed cave on Camotes Island. It’s just a hole in the ground in the middle of nowhere, but that makes us love it even more. A Catholic grotto was the only other thing made by people besides the cement steps and lights, but there was nothing to explain what it was for.

Underground, a dark and sometimes dangerous path leads to an opening with clear water. We needed a mask and snorkel to see the cave floor as we swam through the water.

7. Tulang Diot Island

Tulang Diot Island Camotes. Camotes Island Tourist Spot

Tulang Diot Island is one of the top tourist attractions in Camotes Island. It features a pristine white sand beach and a clean and secure resort. Its natural wonders have become a popular destination among locals and foreign tourists.

The white sand beach and clear blue water of Tulang Diot Island make it one of the best places to visit on Camotes Island tourist spot. Tulang Diot Island is across a narrow channel of water from Pacijan Island. There aren’t many things to do on the island, but that’s part of its charm. A small group of people lives on Tulang Diot Island, but other than that, there isn’t much else there. Once you get there, you can find a spot on the beach, enjoy snorkeling, and just hang out. There isn’t much food on the island, so if you plan to spend the day there, bring your lunch or buy snacks at a sari-sari store.

8. Buho Rock Resort

Buho Rock Resort. Camotes Island Tourist Spot

The Buho Rock Resort is more than just a place to stay it is also considered one of the most tourist attractions in Camotes Island. It is also one of the most popular places for thrill-seekers on Camotes Island. The nearby rock connected by a bridge brings people to the resort, not the resort itself.

The Buho Rock Resort has been made into a place to go cliff diving, with multiple platforms of different heights for thrill-seekers. You can dive into the bright blue water or sit at a picnic table and watch what’s happening. If you want to jump, the best time to go to Buho Rock Resort is when the tide is high.

If you want to check out the rock pools below but don’t want to throw your boat off a cliff, you can take a staircase down to the bottom and look at the rock pools there.

9. Busay Falls

Busay-Falls1. Camotes Island Tourist Spot

Poro Island in Camotes is home to Busay Falls, a small but beautiful waterfall. Busay Falls is one of only two waterfalls in Camotes Island tourist spot. The other is Panganuron Falls.

Even though Busay Falls isn’t very big, the water is a beautiful Gatorade blue, like many other waterfalls in Cebu. This makes it a great place to take a refreshing swim and is considered one of the top tourist attractions in Camotes Island.

10. San Francisco Bay Walk

San Francisco Bay Walk. Camotes Island Tourist Spot

The San Francisco Bay Walk is the best walkway in the Philippines. It is one of the top tourist attraction in Camotes Island. San Francisco Baywalk, which recently changed its name to “Baywalk,” is just a few meters from the Port of San Francisco, the main town of Camotes island tourist spot. From the main road near the Causeway, it goes for about 300 yards until it ends at the foot of a mountain. The Baywalk is a great place for families and friends to hang out in the afternoon and evening because it has a beautiful design made of bermuda grass and a snake-like path.

On the Baywalk trail, some round metal bars can be used to work out, such as the Parallel Bars, Monkey Bars, etc. People are more likely to enjoy the cool breeze of fresh air and the great atmosphere at night because there are a dozen benches and light posts.

11. Mangodlong Rock

Mangodlong Rock Resort.Camotes Island Tourist Spot

A blend of personal and relaxed moments. This rock is located inside the Mangodlong Beach Resort. It is relatively little, yet stunning nevertheless and one of the top Camotes Island tourist spot.

With a sandbar connecting it to the beach, the rock formations that seem to float on the pure green water are a sight to behold along the beach. The surface of these rocks, where the sea wind is at its strongest, is adorned with open-air houses of tropical design.
