Day 01: Arrive Istanbul

Welcome to Istanbul (Constantinople). Truly, one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Istanbul has 3 airports with most flights arriving at the newly relocated, Istanbul Airport (IST). Previously, arrivals were at Ataturk International Airport. This new airport is the 11th busiest one in the world handling over 100 million passengers a year. After immigration and customs, kindly exit from Gate 8 where we are cordially welcomed by our representative and transferred to our hotel. For those arriving at any of the other two airports there is a surcharge of $50 per person for the transfer. Hotel check in time starts at 1500hrs.  According to legend, the Delphic Oracle first instructed the Megarions to establish a city here. During the Byzantine Empire, Constantine chose this very spot as his capital, and it was here that the keys to the city were given to Mehmed the Conqueror. Every emperor and king, president and prime minster, cherished the desire of ruling this city. Welcome then, to one of the most important witnesses of world history and to where it all happened. Balance of the day is at leisure.

Overnight: Hilton Double Tree Piyalepasa, Istanbul (2 nights)

Day 02: Istanbul

Sultan Ahmed Mosque (Blue Mosque), Istanbul, Türkiye (Turkey)

After breakfast at our hotel our exploration of this beautiful World capital starts with a guided tour of the Topkapi Palace , St. Sophia, Blue Mosque.  We are certain that you will be amazed when you discover the variety of historical monuments, including palaces, museums, cisterns, fountains and pillars which surround you on all sides. Hagia Sophia and the Blue Mosque – all part of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Here we experience the magnificence of both the Byzantine Empire and the Ottoman Empires. The architectural secrets of these two buildings, have yet to be fully unraveled.  A trip to Istanbul is not complete without a visit to the Spice Market. The Egyptian Bazaar ( Mısır Çarşısı ), otherwise known as the Spice Bazaar, is the place to be to lay in a fresh supply of spices, nuts, honeycomb, Turkish delight, dried figs, caviar and mature hard Turkish cheese. You will encounter Istanbul firsthand, which you may have previously only seen in films and postcards or read in history books. Evening is free. (B)

Day 03: Istanbul/Canakkale (Drive)

Take a drive into the more so contemporary history as we drive to Gallipoli. We tvisit Anzac Cove, Nek, Conk Bair, Lone Pine and 57.th Regiment Memorial as well as the War Museum.  The reason for the campaign was to break the stalemate on the Western and Eastern Front and to collaborate with the Russians to end the Ottoman Empire. It is perceived as a defining moment in the nation's history—a final surge in the defense of the motherland as the Ottoman Empire crumbled. The struggle formed the basis for the Turkish war of independence and the founding of the Republic Of Türkiye eight years later under Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, a commander at Gallipoli. The campaign is often considered to mark the birth of national consciousness in as far as Australia and New Zealand and the date of the landing 25 April, is known as "Anzac Day". It remains the most significant commemoration of military casualties and veterans.

Overnight: Kolin Hotel , Canakkale (1 night) (B, D)

Day 04: Canakkale/Troy/Pergamum/Kusadasi (Drive)

Amphitheatre, Ephesus, Izmir, Türkiye (Turkey)

A day drive into the ancient history as we drive to the legendary Troy - Turkish:  Truva  or  Troya, an ancient city in northwestern Türkiye, made famous in Homer’s epic poem, the  Iliad . According to  Iliad , this is where the legendary Trojan War took place.  Today, it is an archaeological site popular with travelers from all over the world. Troy is  one of the 18 UNESCO World Heritage sites in Türkiye. Crossing the legendary mountain Ida, we arrive at Pergamum and visit Acropolis.  The Acropolis of Pergamum (Pergamon) is certainly dramatic, perched atop a high, steep-sided hill to the northeast of the modern city center.  The great temples and dramatic theater are visible from anywhere in the city, as they were meant to be.  Byzantine rule has also left its mark on Pergamum. Excavations however point to a much earlier settlement in Pergamum dating back to the Early Bronze Age.  Pergamum played a significant role in the Ancient Mediterranean stage.  We explore Pergamum with its well preserved remains before continuing to  the resort city of Kusadasi where we will stay for 2-nights.

Overnight: Charisma Hotel, Kusadasi (2 nights) (B, D)

Day 05: Kusadasi/Ephesus/Sirince/Kusadasi

Whether we call it ancient or not so ancient history our next drive is to Ephesus - once, the trade centre of the ancient world, a religious centre of the early Christianity . There is nothing like standing on the stage of the amphitheater where St. John spoke to the Ephesians, walking through the ruins of the ancient library where scholars studied, and seeing 2000 years old plumbing more sophisticated than in parts of the world today. The ruins that are now visible give you some idea of the city's original composition, and the names associated with the ruins are a reminder of its former status as a major port of the ancient world. The Library of Celsus, which was reconstructed from the original pieces, was originally built in 125 BC by Julius Aquila, and held over 12,000 scrolls, making it the largest library in the Mediterranean. Then we will have the opportunity to discover and understand the rich history behind local handicrafts like hand-made carpets, leather. Continue to marvelous village of Sirince where we will visit one of the most beautiful villages in Türkiye.  The Orthodox Christian Greeks who lived here during the Ottoman empire were famed for their excellence in winery. The Muslim Turks who moved here from Thessaloniki in 1924 restarted wine making using local fruits.  Taste the delicious wines of the village. (B, D)

Day 06: Kusadasi/Hierapolis/Pamukkale (Drive)

Celsus Library, Ephesus, Izmir, Türkiye (Turkey)

After breakfast, we visit the ancient and magnificent Hierapolis - means "sacred city," and was believed to have been founded by the god, Apollo. It was famed for its sacred hot springs, whose vapors were associated with Pluto, god of the underworld. The city also had a significant Jewish community and was mentioned by Paul in his Letter to Colossians. Today Hierapolis is a World Heritage Site. In addition to interesting Classical ruins, the site offers a thermal sacred pool in which you can swim with ancient artifacts, a view of the spectacular white terraces of Pamukkale and the lime cascade. You can see the gleaming white travertine terraces of Pamukkale, located next to the ruins of Hierapolis. The extraordinary effect is created when water from the hot springs loses carbon dioxide as it flows down the slopes, leaving deposits of limestone. The layers of white calcium carbonate, built up in steps on the plateau, gave the site the name Pamukkale ("cotton castle").

Overnight: Adem Pira Hotel, Pamukkale (1 night) (B, D)

Day 07: Pamukkale/Koycegiz/Fethiye (Drive)

A scenic drive to the lakeside town of Koycegiz.  Here we take a boat cruise and spend the day relaxing, sunbathing, swimming in deep turquoise waters. Turtle Beach, surrounded by salt water on one side and fresh water on the other, is one of the last breeding grounds of the Sea Turtles and therefore delightfully undeveloped. On our way to the Mud Baths, we also visit the magnificent Rock Tombs. The rejuvenating Mud Baths and Thermal springs of Dalyan have drawn in a legion of famous people over the years like Dustin Hoffman, Sting and David Bowie to name a few. We have a 2night stay in the echanting Fethiye.

Overnight: Marina Boutique Hotel, Fethiye (2 nights) (B, D)

Day 08: Fethiye - Day excursion to Kyakov and Oludeniz

Resplendently attired juice vendor, Türkiye (Turkey)

After breakfast we explore the quaint Greek village of Kayakoy, which literally translates as "rock town" and was at one time a thriving populated village mot known as Levissi. Afternoon, we drive to Oludeniz, where we have an opportunity to swim.   Ölüdeniz, which means "dead sea" because of the stillness of the water, the lagoon is a nature preserve. With its sheltered (and protected) lagoon beside a lush national park, a long spit of sandy beach and Baba Dağ (Mt. Baba) casting its shadow across the sea. (B)

Day 09: Fethiye/Saklikent Gorge/Antalya (Drive)

Today we have an optional boat cruise to visit sunken city of Kekova. Kekova is the name of a region of fascinating islands, bays and ancient cities. Along the shores of the Island a sunken city is observed. The geological movements of the Island caused the city on the Island to be submerged, creating a strange scene with half of the city under water and half above. If the weather conditions donot permit us to do this visit we will visit St. Nicholas Church instead. After boat trip we continue for Antalya. Dinner and overnight in Antalya.

Overnight: B. W. Khan Hotel , Antalya (1 night) (B, D)

Day 10: Antalya/Aspendos/Konya/Cappadocia (Drive)

An early departure for Konya, stopping enroute by the ancient theatre of Aspendos, which is one of the best preserved theatres of the Roman world. The theater has a capacity of 15,000 people and is still used today for performances and festivals. Its galleries, stage decorations and acoustics all testify to its architect Xeno's success. Next to the stage there is a small room, which is used as a small museum where you can see some of the masks and clay tickets from the ancient times. Just above the theater there is the acropolis with a great view of the river from the top, where you can see a basilica, an agora, a nymphaeum and a bouleuterion (council), all of them in ruins. Upon arrival at Konya, we visit the monastery of Mervlana Jalauddin Rumi – the founder of Sufism and Whirling Dervishes. Rumi (1207-1273) is one of the world's most read poet and his mausoleum is Türkiye's second most-visited tourist attraction after the Topkapi Palace in Istanbul. Rumi was a mystic, a Sufi saint who loved all religions, and whose own religion was also based on love. His followers would (and still do) lose themselves in trance and dance, sometimes spinning like tops for hours on end.  After visiting the Mausoleum of Mevlana, we continue  to Cappadocia via Seljuk - a fine example of surfacing over the ancient Silk Road . We have a 2night stay in Cappadocia.

Overnight: Crown Plaza Nevsehir Hotel , Cappadocia (2 nights) (B, D)

Day 11: Cappadocia

Aerial view of a hot air balloon flying over the Dovecote Valley, as seen from a hot air balloon, Cappadocia, Nevsehir, Türkiye (Turkey)

The day starts with lots of exciting activities. An early morning optional hot-air balloon ride (extra charge).  This is followed by exploring the Kaymaklı Underground City. It's known that there are more than a hundred of underground settlements in the region and many of them are not open for visits. The underground cities used to be a settlement mostly in the Byzantine period and with increasing invasions it forced local residents to build underground cities for protection and religious practices which were only limited to followers living in the underground city.  The Open Air Museum in the Göreme Valley holds the region's best collection of painted cave-churches. Medieval orthodox Christian monks (1000-1200 AD) carved the caves from the soft volcanic stone and decorated them with elaborate Byzantine frescoes. Natural fortress in Uchisar.  In the 15th and 16th centuries, the Byzantine army took advantage of the natural elevation of three of the area's rock formations and used them as natural fortresses. Evening, we have an optional Turkish Folklore diner show performance. (B)

Day 12: Cappadocia/Ankara/Safranbolu (Drive)

We are now coming close to the end of Marvelous Türkiye but not yet so. Morning, we visit Ankara, the capital of Türkiye. Here we visit Ataturk Mausoleum – a huge hall, lined in red marble, has simple mosaic decoration recalling the many ages and civilizations, this is the burial place of the national hero who founded the modern Republic of Türkiye. A number of Ataturk's personal belongings are exhibited, including his clothes and gifts presented to him by visiting foreign dignitaries.  Ataturk, “Father of the Turks” played a massive role in modernizing Türkiye after the end of Word War 1 and the collapse of the Ottoman Empire. We head for the UNESCO World Heritage Town of Safranbolu.

Overnight: Imren Lokum Konagi Hotel, Safranbolu (1 night) (B, D)

Day 13: Safranbolu/Istanbul (Drive)

Street car on Yeni Carssi Street, Istanbul, Türkiye (Turkey)

After breakfast we visit the old town of Safranbolu, which was an important caravan station on the main East–West trade route. The Old Mosque, Old Bath and Süleyman Pasha Medrese were built in 1322. During its apogee in the 17th century, Safranbolu's architecture influenced urban development throughout much of the Ottoman Empire. Free time to wander the narrow lanes of the old town, scramble up to the castle and clock tower for a panoramic view and  taste fine samples of Turkish Delights before continuing our drive to Istanbul. Magical Istanbul welcomes us and we visit the Grand Bazaar - the largest covered market in the world. It has over 60 lanes and 5000 shops attracting between 250,000 and 400,000 visitors daily. It is well known for its jewelry, hand-painted ceramics, carpets, embroideries, spices and antique shops. Evening is free to enjoy the night life of Istanbul.

10 Most Beautiful Turkish Islands to Visit

Photo of author

Your #1 Resource For All Things Related To Travel In Turkey

This website uses affiliate links. For more information, click here .

When looking for a tropical vacation not far from Eastern Europe, you might be thinking about the charming islands of Turkey.

There are many beautiful islands in Turkey that have pristine sand covered beaches, Ottoman Greek Heritage, and gorgeous protected natural reserves.

Whether you’re looking to soak up some sun or you’re looking for a peaceful getaway, there are many islands off Turkey’s coast that offer all this and more.

But if you’re not sure which islands to visit or how to get to them, then this guide will tell you everything you need to know about the best Turkish islands.

The Best Turkish Islands to Visit in 2023

Whether you seek a peaceful, tranquil Turkish island to retreat to with some of the Mediterranean Coast’s best beaches, or somewhere with historical attractions, or even just a hidden gem to discover, you’ll find all this and more down below.

1. Bozcaada Island

Bozcaada Island

Our first island on the list finds us landing on the country’s third largest island, Bozcaada Island. Located in the incredible blue of the Aegean Sea on the country’s west side, this island is certainly one of Turkey’s most picturesque.

With gorgeous cobblestoned streets, old Greek buildings, historic ruins, and a relaxed ‘island life’ atmosphere, those that make the short 30-minute ferry from Geyikli Port to Bozcaada Island are almost guaranteed not to want to leave.

Bozcaada Castle, built by the Ottomans in the 15th century, is the island’s most popular attraction but another top activity is roaming through the vineyards on a wine-tasting tour, and who can forget the stunning beaches on the island?

Ayazma Beach and Habbele Beach are both perfect for catching a tan and then cooling off in crystal-clear waters.

How to get there: To get to Bozcaada Island, one must first travel to Geyikli, a coastal town in the Çanakkale province of Turkey. From there, you can take a ferry to the island, which departs regularly throughout the day. The ferry ride takes approximately 35 minutes and offers stunning views of the surrounding sea and coastline. There are more frequent ferry crossings in the summer.

2. Princes’ Islands

Princes-Islands-Adalar-Istanbul

Moving on to the next island, it’s not just one singular island but a collection of 9, all separate from each other. The Princes’ Islands are just a quick (and cheap!) ferry over from Istanbul and offer a calming escape from the city’s vibrant energy.

Although there are nine island in total, only four of the Princes Islands are open to the public (though arguably they are the most beautiful islands), with those being Buyukada Island, the biggest and the most popular, followed by Burgazada, Heybeliada, and Kiniliada.

Intriguingly, all four of the public-open Princes Islands have banned vehicles meaning the only mode of transport is either a bicycle or a traditional horse and cart or by exploring on foot.

This makes it easy for something to do, though, because you can be pedaling down the quiet streets, take in the scenes of the wooden villas, and gallop along the coastline.

Burgazadasi

For something very unique to do, why not visit the Prinkipo Greek Orthodox Orphanage, which is the second-largest wooden building in the world?

Princes’ Islands are some of the most beautiful places in Istanbul and should not be skipped off anyone’s Istanbul itinerary .

How to get there: Take a ferry from Istanbul’s Kabatas or Kadikoy docks. Ferry services run regularly throughout the day and the journey takes approximately one hour to the largest island, Buyukada. You can use your contactless payment card directly, or buy tickets from the pier.

3. Cunda Island (Alibey)

Cunda Island Turkey

Connected to the Turkish mainland by a causeway, Cunda Island (or, Alibey Island as it’s also known) is a beautiful little island steeped in Greek Orthodox history that’s vibe just screams the best of the Mediterranean Coast.

Previously a Greek Island, narrow cobbled streets with stunning stone houses and colorful shutters make for a very charming island indeed. Couple this with a range of boutique shops and quaint little restaurants to eat al-fresco and sip on cold drinks gazing out to sea, and you’ve got yourself one of the region’s ultimate hidden gems.

Built in 1873 by the island’s Greek Orthodox occupants, Taxiarches Church is a gorgeous building to visit on a magnificent island that had been left in ruin for many years. Following an extensive restoration project by the Rahmi M. Koc Museum of Istanbul, Taxiarches is now Cunda Island’s most popular attraction.

How to get there: To get to Cunda Island, visitors first need to travel to the town of Ayvalik on the mainland. From there, you can take a ferry or a motorboat to the island. Ferries depart frequently from the Ayvalik harbor and the journey takes approximately 15-20 minutes. Alternatively, visitors can also take a motorboat, which offers a faster and more direct route to the island but may be slightly more expensive.

4. Gemiler Island

Gemiler Island

Gemiler Island, or St. Nicholas (aka Santa Claus) Island as it is also known, is a small uninhabited island just off the coast of mainland Turkey nearby to the popular coastal beach town of Fethiye, which is famous for its beaches .

Whilst there’s not a great deal to do on this little island, it’s steeped in history with plenty of historical ruins for you to see from the Roman and Byzantine periods. You’ll be able to see several churches in various states of decay, as well as a graveyard and cistern for storing water.

Gemiler, or St. Nicholas Island gets its rather unusual name because archaeologists believe this is where the Christian Bishop and inspiration for Santa Clause, Saint Nicholas of Myra were originally entombed.

Gemiler can be accessed pretty much all year round, with several options via boat to get there.

If you head to Gemiler Beach you’ll be able to get a local fisherman or boat owner to shuttle you across the short distance for a handful of Lira, or you can join a more organized boat trip that visits different stunning islands in the area that can be booked in Fethiye or Oludeniz.

How to get there: To get to Gemiler Island, you must first travel to either the towns of Oludeniz or Fethiye on the mainland. From there, you can take a boat tour or a water taxi to the island. Boat tours typically depart from Oludeniz and Fethiye harbors and offer a scenic journey along the Turquoise Coast, with stops at various coves and beaches along the way. Water taxis are also available, which offer a faster and more direct route to the island but may be slightly more expensive.

5. Sedir Island (Cleopatra Island)

Sedir Island

Another one of the most beautiful Turkish islands to visit is Sedir Island, also known as Cleopatra Island, which is located within the Gulf of Gokova and just a short 30-minute drive from the buzzing seaside resort town of Marmaris.

The island’s coast is said to be shrouded in mystery and urban legend, with Queen Cleopatra and her consort Mark Antony said to have swum in the crystal-clear waters of the island. Another legend, the little island’s golden-sand covered beach, is one of the highlights and particularly unusual in this area of the Mediterranean Sea.

Turkish folklore believes that Cleopatra brought the golden sands of Egypt with her, creating the soft golden stretch of beach you see today. Because of these supposed famous visitors, Sedir Island is also known as Cleopatra Island and is a major tourist attraction in the region.

Today you can see ancient ruins surrounded by olive trees and lush vegetation. It’s a stunning escape from the party crowds of Marmaris.

Tours can be booked from plenty of agents in Marmaris and even online. Or if you’re feeling adventurous, why not venture over to Sedir Island on your own? It’s an easy enough drive, and once you reach the pier, you’ll be able to get a boat over to the island.

How to get there: To get to Sedir Island, you must first travel to the town of Marmaris on the mainland. From there, you can take a boat tour or a water taxi to the island. Boat tours typically depart from Marmaris Harbor and have various stops at coves and beaches along the way. Water taxis are also available, which offer a faster and more direct route to the island but may be slightly more expensive.

6. Gökçeada (Imbros) Island

Gökçeada Island

Six islands into our list, and we’ve finally reached the largest of them all – Gökçeada. Peaking out of the blue Aegean Sea right at the entrance of Saros Bay, Gokceada Island is the westernmost point of the entire country, extending right out underneath Greece.

Unsurprisingly, Gökçeada was inhabited by the Greeks first, since the Iron Age, but many were forced to flee back to mainland Greece due to political unrest and supposed ethnic cleansing by the Turkish Democrat Party in the 1960s.

One of the best things to do on the calming island is to visit the multitude of tiny Greek hamlets and villages that are still standing. The stone houses, together with the natural beauty of the rugged island itself, make for a photographer’s paradise.

The island is also famous for several idyllic camping spots, perfect for pitching up a tent and relaxing with arguably one of the best camping views anywhere in the world.

Due to its remote location, you can only access the island by taking a short ferry ride from the port of Canakkale Kabatepe. Even though it’s a popular tourist destination and a very busy island, the ferries can be quite random as to when they leave.

If you are making the trip over, you should double-check what times the ferry runs to avoid disappointment.

How to get there: To get to Gökçeada Island, you must first get to the town of Kabatepe on the mainland. From there, take a ferry or a motorboat to the island. Ferries depart from Kabatepe multiple times a day, and the journey takes approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes. Alternatively, there is a motorboat, which offers a faster and more direct route to the island but may be slightly more expensive.

7. Kekova Island

Sunken City of Kekova

Kekova Island is a small island, uninhabited island just off the coast of the southern mainland. It is only accessible by boat and is one of the more popular islands to visit in the area.

It is so popular because of the incredible sunken city that can be found in the clear blue seas just off the shoreline of the beautiful island itself.

kekova

Once a busy village of the Lycians, the buildings were sunken into the water as a result of tectonic movements, which eventually formed the Taurus Mountains that you’ll see on the mainland.

The city was actually partially rebuilt; however, as a result of Arab invasions, it was left to crumble into the ancient ruins you see today. It’s quite remarkable as you can see the historic ruins of buildings, stairways, and even remnants of what were once stone houses.

How to get there: To get to Kekova Island, visitors must first travel to either the town of Kas or the nearby town of Demre on the mainland, or the nearby harbor village of Ucagiz village. From there, take a boat tour or a water taxi to the island. Boat tours depart from the harbors of Kas and Demre and visit other beautiful destinations and beaches on the way. Water taxis are faster and more direct but may be slightly more expensive.

8. Marmara Island

marmara island

Last but certainly not least is Turkey’s second-largest island – Marmara Island.

Previously a Greek Island, if you’re visiting Istanbul and find yourself with a few days to spare and fancying a holiday within a holiday, why not get a ferry over from Istanbul?

It’s only a 3-hour ride, depending on whether you get the fast boat or not, and you’ll have 72 miles of gorgeously rugged and mountainous Mediterranean terrain to explore, with plenty of hiking routes, olive groves, waterfalls, and picture-perfect beaches to use up your time on.

Marble is a famous export from the island, so much so that one of the better sandy beaches on the island is actually called Marble Beach.

Like the majority of intriguing destinations around this part of the world, Marmara Island is steeped in history, with ancient Greek mythology claiming that Jason and the Argonauts visited the island before the atrocities of the Trojan War.

Today, the narrow sun-bleached streets are lined with traditional wooden houses, local shops, and small and large restaurants that befit an island like Marmara.

How to get there: You can take a ferry from Istanbul to Marmara Island. Ferries depart from Istanbul’s Yenikapi and Pendik harbors multiple times a day, and the journey takes approximately 1.5-2 hours.

9. Güvercinada Island (Pigeon Island)

Güvercinada Island

Güvercinada Island, also known as Pigeon Island or Bird Island, is a small but incredibly beautiful island connected to Kusadası in Western Turkey and is connected to the mainland by a narrow, man-made causeway.

The island is famous for being home to a stunning array of bird species, which makes it a popular destination for birdwatchers and nature enthusiasts.

It’s also home to a historic castle named Kusadasi Castle, which was built between 1478-1546 century by the Ottoman Empire. There is a castle was built to prevent an attack from the islands during the Greek Orlov Revolt, and its defensive architecture is best noted from the 3-meter wall that surrounds the entire island.

Because it’s only 1 hour 20 minutes drive from Izmir, taking a day trip here is one of the most popular things to do in Izmir .

How to get there: To get to Güvercinada Island, visitors must first travel to either the town of Cesme or the nearby city of Izmir on the mainland. From there, you can take a bus to Kusadasi, and then you can either walk along the causeway or take a taxi.

10. Akdamar Island

Akdamar Island

Akdamar Island, situated in the turquoise waters of Lake Van in eastern Turkey, is a hidden gem that is well worth a visit.

It’s known for once being home to an Armenian population and has a gorgeous 10th-century cathedral of the Holy Cross, which is decorated with intricate carvings and frescoes that have been painstakingly restored.

The cathedral is one of the most important examples of Armenian architecture in Turkey and has been recognized as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

Surrounding the island are blooming almond trees, craggy mountains which often see snow in the winter, and 0.7 km² of unspoiled natural beauty.

In addition to the cathedral, you can also explore the ruins of a medieval Armenian palace, which offer a glimpse into the island’s rich history.

Akdamar Islands is a unique and fascinating destination that offers a perfect blend of history, culture, and natural beauty.

How to get there: To get to Akdamar Island, first travel to the town of Tatvan in Bitlis province. From there, you can take a ferry to the island. Ferries depart from Tatvan harbor multiple times a day during the summer season, and the journey takes approximately 3 hours.

So helpful, so delightful and well priced

I needed to know everything about a Croatian Cruise and I was delighted when I came across Sun Island Tours. Katie was super helpful, patient and efficient. She made recommendations, explained the differences and happily offered advice and suggestions without pressure. Katie then helped me by sending messages to the cruise operators requesting last minute availability and shared my joy when I was able to make a choice between great options. I would highly recommend Sun Island Tours. They made the whole process easy and efficient. Thanks again

Dream Holiday Success with Sun Island Tours.

Last September I went on my dream holiday to Italy with Sun Island tours. Dannielle made sure everything was booked early with 3 days to explore Rome. We stayed right at the Trevi Fountain and walking distance to the Coloseum. The bus tour of Tuscany and Sicily was awesome with amazing guides who went out of their way to accommodate every request. At one point there was a small problem and it was sorted out quickly and fairly with a few phone calls by our guide. Dannielle and Sun Island tours made my dream come true with an experience I will treasure forever.

Date of experience : 16 April 2019

Thank you Jeanette for your feedback. We are so delighted to hear you had a great time in Italy. Dannielle is a very knowledgable consultant, who has great tidbits and service on any issues that may arise. We look forward to organising your future visits to the Mediterranean. Kind regards, John @ Sun Island Tours

Land tour from Dubrovnik to Dubrovnik…

Land tour from Dubrovnik to Dubrovnik through Croatia, Bosnia & Herzegovina and Serbia (with a side trip to Montenegro) organised through Sun Island Tours. Brilliantly organised and executed. Well-paced road trip, excellent driver and fabulous tour guide (Mirjana Vukusic - funny, knowledgable, great personality). Mirjana ensured everything ran smoothly and was a great resource for shopping. She also regularly followed up a lost bag and made sure that when recovered it was forwarded. Local guides in Mostar, Sarajevo, Belgrade and Split gave us insight into the history and recent troubles of the area. So much history. Cannot speak highly enough of Sun Island and their local representative, Atlas Tours. Now have Sun Island on 'speed dial' in anticipation of our next trip.

Date of experience : 18 August 2019

Don’t leave anything out in your cabin

Don’t leave anything out. We had an entire large bag of shopping stolen, including brand new shoes, clothes and gifts from our cabin. On a positive, the food was delicious and the Greek island hopping was an amazing way to see so many places over a few days

Hi Felicity, Thank you for your review. I will pass on your kind words to Katie. She knows Greece very well, and coupled with our online booking system, it makes it super easy to book ferries in the Mediterranean. Please let us know if you need any further support, and thank you for your continued business. Kind regards, John @ Sun Island Tours

We have been informed by our agent that…

We have been informed by our agent that the $5000 we have paid towards the land portion of our Italian tour for May 2020 through Sun Island Tours is regarded as deposit and is NON refundable. This, we are informed, is because Sun Island Tours has already paid suppliers in Italy and they can only work on what the terms are from the Italian suppliers. We are not interested in credit options as our decision is to cancel the trip. We understand there would be a cancellation fee, but to lose $5000 is very upsetting.

Date of experience : 19 November 2020

Dear Shirley Thank you for your reply and further information. As you have pointed out, the fee that is charged is NOT charged by Sun Island Tours , but the overseas supplier for your group booking. We are not charging any fees at all on this group booking, but have only passed on the unrecoverable fees from the overseas suppliers in Italy. We have also offered a credit option whereby you can travel in 2021 or 2022 without any fees charged at all. As we have worked tirelessly on your group, again without charging any fees ourselves, we believe that it is very unreasonable to receive a one star review. Please speak with your travel agent if you require any further information. Thank you John @ Sun Island Tours

I feel I need to share how grateful I am to have been dealing with Sun Island tours, and in particular, Zena in the groups division. The service has been outstanding, knowledge of the destinations brilliant and their pricing is GREAT. During this Covid period Sun Island Tours have gone above and beyond to help with ensuring passengers money is safe and secure with their overseas suppliers. I cannot recommend them highly enough

May 2019- I have just returned to Australia from the 16 day 'The Best of Spain, Portugal & Morocco' Tour and loved it. Tour Guides, Drivers and hotels were good & hotel breakfasts catered to every taste. Optional extra's provided some nice surprises. No complaints from me & happy to recommend this tour to others with previous travel experience, not the first time traveller.

Date of experience : 29 May 2019

Dear Marie, Thank you for your feedback and apologies for the delay. Great to hear all the positive feedback re our drivers, hotels, meals and optional excursions. I agree, this large tour is not for a first time travellers, as it is made up of other tours with different guides and drivers. We do this in order to offer more than 30 tours in Spain, with weekly guaranteed departures. But by doing this the touring is a little more 'flexible'. Glad to hear your recommendation, and looking forward to you travelling with us again. Kind regards, John @ Sun Island Tours

Thank you so much your assistance with this booking. NO question that i had as a drama and neither was sending off any cruise options to confirm availability or clarification on the particular products to ensure were got the right option for this client. Will be in touch again soon!

Hi Carla, Thank you for your review, and your continued support. Cruising in Croatia is a product in such high demand these days, that it is sometimes difficult to find the right option for the client, or even an available cruise. But as we have the largest range of options in Croatia, we are always happy to assist in finding a perfect fit for your clients. We hope to look after your clients in the future. Kind regards, Zoe @ Sun Island Tours

Croatia tour from Zagreb to Dubrovnik…

Croatia tour from Zagreb to Dubrovnik was exceptional. First class hotels every night, great tour guide and a host of great interesting inclusions. The guide went out of his way to take the scenic route rather than main roads . Stopped every hour and a half for a break for all to enjoy. This tour by Sun Island was one of best we have done out of Australia

Thank you Ralph for your feedback. We are so delighted to hear you had a great time in Croatia and look forward to organising your future visits to the Mediterranean. Kind regards, John @ Sun Island Tours

Overall a good tour

Overall a good tour, knowledgeable tour guide with very good English. Most Hotels a fairly good standard as was the bus facilities. Would not have seen half as much if we had attempted to do by ourselves. Had not heard of a number of locations but these were the most surprising. An enjoyable way to travel.

Date of experience : 21 May 2019

Thanks Christine, Glad you enjoyed your tour of Spain. You can't go wrong with the tour you chose. Madrid, Caceres, Seville, Cordoba, Ronda, Marbella, Granada - all magical destinations! Hopefully you can travel back to the Mediterranean soon :) Regards, Zoe @ Sun Island Tours

Fabulous 6 weeks in Greece

We booked an extensive 6 week holiday with Sun Island Tours to Greece in 2019 that included, hotels, transfers, ferry tickets, share a sail and Grand Tour of Greece. We were extremely happy with the service provided by the staff during the organising and recommendations for accommodation, tours and what we had on our wish list. All staff we had contact with in Greece were professional and we had the best holiday. Locations for accommodation on the islands proved to be perfect.

Travel Agent review

As an Agent, Sun Island Tours is a fantastic option for my clients. I whole-heartedly can book through Sun Island knowing my clients will be taken care of and experience a premium product during their travels.

Hi Barb, Thank you for your review, and your continued support. We hope to look after your clients in the future. Kind regards, Zoe @ Sun Island Tours

Croatia great, weather only fair!

Our Croatian week went without a hitch. Tour guides arrived to collect us promptly each day and then provided accurate and friendly guidance to ensure each destination for the group was easily visited and meeting points at the completion of each day was easily understood by all. All guides spoke clear English and went out of their way to ensure we, as a minority in the small group, were never forgotten. Accommodation in both hotels was very satisfactory to meet our requirements.

Date of experience : 05 June 2019

Dear Ann, Thank you for your review and kind words. Great to hear you had such a lovely time in Croatia and will be passing on the feedback to our team in Australia and Croatia. Looking forward to you travelling with us again. Kind regards, John @ Sun Island Tours

We did 14 days Globus Turkish Delight tour in Sept, I can't fault it, our hotels were excellent, our tour director had wealth of history knowledge, our driver was a great guy too. The whole trip was smooth without any problems. I would highly recommend Globus.

We arrived at Ephesus around 10.00am we had lunch at noon, it was a hot day too.

We loved Turkey and it was a very memorable trip.

Best of Turkey- 10 Days

I really liked the turkey 10 days option tour. We really got the opportunity to do everything without getting exhausted during the same day. I however would've liked having at least 1 organized day on the beach since for 2 days we've had enough time to kill (early return to the hotel) around the city. I had to ask and organize my 4 hours for the beach myself. The transportation was perfectly organized with the airplanes tickets, some of the vans were a bit uncomfortable inside though (not enough space between the chairs). Guides were amazing and knowledgeable. A big thank you. At the end of the tour the agency was super helpful with my hotel transfert as I needed to go to another hotel where i booked instead of going back to Canada. Thank you, was really appreciated. Now here's what I recommendto the agency : Please STOP bringing people to the stupid leather store and fashion show of Ayazel so ppl would stay in a good mood during the trip! Our group had unfortunately to experiment one of the worst customer experience in our lives. It was in fact the leather market excursion of Ayazel (with their fashion show). The staff was extremely pushy and ruuuude. I have never seen such low custom service quality in my life. First, after their stupid fashion show the big boss (big ****) said right away "my staff here is to help if they get pushy come and see me" ... oh lol sorry he meant the total opposit. I started looking at the leather bags and was checking the prices. 2 min later an idiot sales man came suddenly and took me to the jackets department and started putting on me stuff he was trying to sell. I told him no thanks very politely many times but he continued pushing then started asking racist questions about my origines and when I told him my ascendants are half middle eastern he wasn't amazed and rolled his eyes up! *** I payed $6000 for my trip not to get that shit!! I was with an old man sitting waiting for the rest of our ppl inside the store when that sales man came and ESCORTED US TO THE DOOR!! He said you both can wait outside ***!! He was so dramatic. We told him that our bus is not out yet but he continued pushing. We ignored him and went back in. The big boss was there with his son I think a tall musceled idiot guy who literally started talking in turkish with him in front of me showing his frustration because I got back in and wasn't wearing a brand!! OMG it was disgusting on all levels I couldn't talk enough. Just keep your money for other places where the quality is the same and much cheaper. Thanks again to the agency for all the help and the timing accommodations.

Excellent tour and very good value for price. Tamer was a professional, informed, communicative and considerate guide. The tour was well planned and delivered to schedule without being to rushed. I was pleased with the food and accomodation.

Absolutely Turkey Tour

Absolutely Turkey

An excellent way to see the highlights of Turkey for those short on time. You'll see many cultural and historical sites as well as get all those Instagram shots (if that's your thing). Enquire about upgrading to the cave hotel in Cappadocia - it's an absolutely must-have experience. Breakfast and dinners are included however I would recommend getting out of the hotel in Capadoccia making your way into Urgup and the waterfront in Izmir where there are an abundance of small eateries (Sofra was amazing) to try authentic local cuisine. Our guide Nadir made this trip - there wasn't a single question he couldn't answer (and we tried!). He genuinely cares about his guests and goes out of his way to make the trip perfect - when our hot air balloon ride was cancelled on the first day, he woke up early to accompany us on the second day and would probably have blown the balloon up himself to get us the experience we were there for. Our driver Dursun was lovely and took so much pride in providing a safe and clean journey. The days are long because there is so much ground to cover, but I would highly recommend the trip to anyone looking for a fuss-free way to see the highlights of this beautiful country. Pack a few extra lira for taxis to get out and about during free time if you want to see a bit more of the overnight towns.

Best of Turkey by Land (5 & 4 Star Hotels) Tour

Best of Turkey by Land (5 & 4 Star Hotels)

First time traveller with travel talk exploring Turkey 12 day land tour. Fantastic experience. Our guide Mustafa has made the tour very enjoyable, his laid back calm personality made this trip easy when you have a large group. All your concerns and questions are taken care of. He knowledge was exceptional. The bus is extremely comfortable and the drivers are very professional. Always eager to lend a hand when needed. The hotels did not dissapoint. I only wished I had time to use the facilities a bit more. As Mus said, this is a tour not a holiday lol Do yourself a favour and book a tour with travel talk- tour radar. Can Highly recommend the one I'm doing. I hope to return to Turkey in the near future. I have fell in love with the country. Vibrant Instanbul, different cultures, warm people to the many highlights of Anzac Cove, Troy, Ephesus with all the glory of ancient ruins, stepping back in time. Fethiye that oozes with stunning aqua blue coastline. Saklikent wow factor Canyon, truly breathtaking then swim in the pristine warm sea at Oludeniz. Spoilt for choice after all this take the extra option and paraglide. First time experience for me and I was stll buzzing with excitement days later. The scenery is exquisite. The company travel talk use a very experienced paragliders. I felt safe the whole time, enough to do 360 with him. Pamukkale natural site with its carbonate mineral terraced pools is another wow factor, not to mention Cappadocia riched in history and of course hot air balloon over the stunning lunar like landscape. Too many to mention. I have thoroughly loved everything about this tour and will certainly use travel radar - travel talk again.

Barış led a wonderful trip! I took this tour during November 2023, which is during the rainy season. Would recommend an umbrella and rain resistant warm layers. Even so, had the full tour experience with all locations listed. Enjoyable tour that I would highly recommend to others. Tour guide was knowledgeable and led a perfect pace to enjoy each space on the walking tour. Fun full day tour of the main tourist spots in Turkey!

Everything was great especially the tour director Mustafa. Only downside was a couple of the hotels were pretty average. The buffet dinners at the hotels were nothing special, dinners hosted outside were excellent, except for the restaurant "5 Inches" which everyone on our tour disliked! Would definitely do a small group tour with you again!

9 Days Turkey Super Saver Tour Tour

9 Days Turkey Super Saver Tour

We had a great experience with a 9-day tour of Turkey, visiting Istanbul, Kusadasi, Pamukkale, Konya and Cappadocia, with Turkey Escapades in April 2023. Mehmet was very responsive in answering our questions prior to and during the trip (to confirm pickup times, hot air balloon rides, etc.) and we really appreciated his proactiveness in re-booking our hot air balloon ride in Cappadocia when the first booking was cancelled. One thing to note is that we did not travel with the same group of people throughout the tour; instead, it was just our family in the vehicle transfers to and from airports, and from Pamukkale to Cappadocia. And then at the actual sites (Ephesus, Hierapolis, Konya), we joined small groups of different tourists and were shown around by different tour guides. The tour guides at each site were friendly and efficient; the drivers were punctual and drove well. We appreciated the choice of hotels: the Erboy Hotel in Istanbul was in a great location; the MDC Cave Hotel in Cappadocia was unique and had the friendliest staff and very nice food. Unfortunately the staff -- especially the spa staff -- at the Pam Thermal Hotel in Pamukkale were rude and unhelpful; there were zero smiles and very poor service; however this was just a short part of the tour. Overall we would like to express our thanks to Mehmet and his team for a wonderful trip to Turkey!

We had an amazing guide for the majority of the trip Hatice . Nothing was too much trouble for her. Hatice was very knowledgeable & imparted information very well. Having a small group was a big plus. Hotels were of a high standard.
We had a nice time in Turkey thank you to Fatih our guide for his passionate commentary of the Anatolian civilisations history.

Hey everyone,

There were no children, and ages from early twenties up to middle age

great tour, fab hotels

' class=

We did 14 days Globus Turkish Delight tour in Sept, I can't fault it, our hotels were excellent, our tour director had wealth of history knowledge, our driver was a great guy too. The whole trip was smooth without any problems. I would highly recommend Globus.

We arrived at Ephesus around 10.00am we had lunch at noon, it was a hot day too.

We loved Turkey and it was a very memorable trip.
