What’s Under The Hood Of The Nissan Patrol That Spanked A Porsche 918 In ‘The Grand Tour’?

Here’s what it takes to build a giant brick on four wheels to beat Porsche’s 900 hp supercar.

Nissan News photo

You've seen The Grand Tour's season finale and you've probably been wondering about the batshit Nissan Patrol that schooled the Porsche 918 ever since. Sure, it's obviously not a stock Patrol, but even if this giant brick on four wheels had the GT-R's monstrous VR38DETT, it shouldn't be able to embarrass a state-of-the-art 900 horsepower hypercar like that, right?

Richard Hammond never gave us a closer look at the insane Nissan Patrol, but earlier this week, YouTube channel 1320Video did:

Video thumbnail

As it turns out, the Patrol is running a complete R35 Nissan GT-R drivetrain after all. However, it's anything but stock – performance outfit FPerformance took on the project by first performing a complete GT-R transplant for the Patrol, including the VR38DETT, a Stage 5 Shep gearbox , axles, rear subframe, suspension, GT-R carbon brakes, hub, and more. A GT-R fascia was even grafted to the Patrol's front bumper and a custom GT-R style hood, completely with functional NACA ducts, was made for the truck as well. Inside, the GT-R steering wheel, dash cluster, R switches, and gear shifter were all brought over to this Patrol. Yes, you can even toggle the switches for launch control just like a real GT-R. Last and certainly not least, the VR38DETT was then stroked to 4.1 liters and built to be good for 1900 horsepower, maybe more.

According to Boyan of FPerformance, this Porsche 918 killer Nissan Patrol will accelerate from a standstill to 330 km/h, or 205 mph, in just 800 meters. At 340 km/h, the Patrol may experience some lift due to the lack of aero.

The last time we heard of a crazy GT-R Frankenstein like this was when British motorsports house RML Group built a wide body Nissan Juke with GT-R running gear, dubbed the Nissan Juke-R . But the FPerformance's 1900 horsepower Nissan Patrol dials the level of crazy to a whole new level.

Watch The Grand Tour's  Porsche 918 Spyder vs Nissan Patrol drag race again. If you had the choice, would you take home the Monster Nissan over the Porsche hybrid supercar? Let us know in the comments below.

Episode Guide

Clarkson, Hammond and May launch their new programme with a film showing Clarkson leaving London to fly to Los Angeles where he meets Hammond and May. As the Hothouse Flowers play “I Can See Clearly Now” the trio drive Ford Mustangs through the California desert to Rabbit Dry Lake, accompanied by a range of cars and a fly-over by the Breitling Jet Team.

Following a sequence where they greet the audience and viewers, and introduce the tent, the first feature shows Clarkson, Hammond and May testing three hybrid hypercars; the McLaren P1, Porsche 918 and Ferrari LaFerrari at the Algarve International Circuit in Portugal.

Later, Clarkson introduces the show’s new test track, the “Eboladrome” with laps by a Ferrari 488 and a BMW M2. Renner, Hammer and Vorderman are all humorously “killed” before being able to take part in the show.

Returning to Portugal, Jérôme d’Ambrosio performs timed laps in the hypercars. The episode ends with Hammond and May declaring that they will demolish Clarkson’s house as forfeit for losing a bet: that the McLaren P1 would beat the Porsche 918 and LaFerrari in a timed lap.

The Grand Tour Nissan Patrol: The Porsche 918 Killer Based on a Nissan Supercar

During episode 13 we saw the Porsche 918 Spyder take down the mighty Bugatti Veyron. Afterwards a man in a Nissan Patrol lined up against the Porsche for a shot at a drag race as well. Well as we saw, the Nissan took down the Porsche hard. So what was up with the Patrol? Clearly it wasn’t a stock everyday SUV.

After a bit of research I found out a bit more about it. Here’s what I found.

The Nissan Patrol is an SUV that was only built for the middle east and Australia and is a very common vehicle there. It usually comes standard with a 285 horsepower straight-six but it’s also very common to modify them. The Patrol in the film (pictured above) is owned by a member of one of the ruling families of Dubai. It has the engine and drive train from a Nissan GTR which was all put together by Nissan themselves in Japan and then shipped over to Dubai. Upon arrival it was then modified even further by a local garage, F Performance Garage, to produce a mind blowing 1900 horsepower. Along with the power boost the Patrol also was fitted with some sticky tires and some really big brakes. It was featured a few days ago on F Performance Garage’s Facebook page , showing a bit more of what’s underneath the hood of this monster.

So really the poor little Porsche didn’t stand a chance and was destroyed by what’s known as the ultimate sleeper. Good thing it wasn’t for pink slips. If you haven’t seen the race yet, watch the video below and prepare yourself for laughter and possibly a tear or two.

The 22 Best Grand Touring Cars

GT cars combine comfort, style, and performance to create a swift, opulent driving experience.

Land vehicle, Vehicle, Car, Sports car, Lexus lfa, Automotive design, Supercar, Coupé, Rim, Wheel,

Grand tourers aim to provide the best of what the car world has to offer—the greatest luxury, the highest performance, and the most beautiful styling. Here are some of the greatest GT cars out there.

Ferrari 456

First sold in America in 1995, the 456 is a traditionalist's grand touring car, a front-engine V-12 Ferrari with seating for four. We tested this $225,000 executive transport by racing it across Texas against a similarly priced Mooney airplane. It lost, but not by much. Rated at 436 horsepower, the 5.2-liter V-12 sings delightfully up to the car's top speed of 186 mph. We'd go for the six-speed manual, but there's a four-speed automatic (GTA) for the comfort-oriented, who will find the leather-lined interior and cockpit-adjustable suspension alluring. The 456M (modificata) had only six more horsepower, an updated interior, and mild styling tweaks when it arrived for 1998; it was replaced by the 612 Scaglietti in 2004. For this exercise in spendthrift Ferrari ownership, we looked at a '97. When Hagerty said the average value was only $41,000 and a superb example would still be under $60,000, we hopped over to the NADA price guide, which reported that last year the low retail price observed was $43,900, the high price was $73,800, and the average was $53,000. Nice.

Chevrolet Corvette

2020 mid engine corvette

On the surface, you might not think the Corvette would make for a good GT car. It has just two seats, and sports-car focus. But really, thanks to comfortable magnetic ride suspension, a massive trunk, and torquey V-8, it's great on long trips. This one's up for bidding on eBay.

The M6 is basically a two-door version of the wonderful M5, meaning it gets the same powerful engine and fantastic driving dynamics. The last-gen model shown here even has a V-10 engine. Here's one with a rare manual transmission you can own now.

Bentley Continental GT

The Continental GT is all-new for 2019, with a restyled body and a 626-horsepower W-12 engine, or a 550-hp V-8. It looks great, and drives as well as you'd expect. This used example is barely broken-in, and you can own it today.

Ford Mustang GT

The Mustang has come a long way from its crude muscle car beginnings. It's a truly fun car to drive in all environments, whether it be the track, the drag strip, or the street. And because it has four seats, you don't have to compromise much. Here's a brand-new one you can own right now.

Ferrari 812 Superfast

Ferrari's front-engined V-12 family of cars is a lineage of fantastic daily-drivable machines, all with massive power and the great sounds you expect from something with a Ferrari badge. The 812 Superfast is the latest from Maranello. This one's painted in a lovely shade of black, and you can own it.

The McLaren GT is named appropriately, as it's one of the most comfort-minded cars to come out of Woking. There's ample luggage space, a more compliant suspension, and a new infotainment system to make sure occupants are as satisfied as possible. Here's one with just 44 miles on the clock for sale now.

Ferrari GTC4Lusso

The GTC4Lusso is currently Ferrari's most practical car, with all-wheel drive and four usable seats. It also has enough luggage space for long journeys thanks to that sweet shooting brake design. This one's painted in a lovely shade of white, and you can own it.

The XJS can be found for relatively low prices on the used market thanks to their reputation for unreliability. But if you're willing to put up with that, you'll get a wonderful V-12-powered GT experience. Here's one up for bidding on eBay now.

Aston Martin Vanquish

Aston's first Vanquish remains one of the prettiest cars the company has ever put out, complimented by that wonderful V-12 soundtrack. And if you're not a fan of the automatic transmission, you can send it back to the UK to have the factory put a manual transmission in. This one's for sale on eBay right now for just $70,000.

Aston Martin DBS Superleggera

If you'd rather have something a bit more modern from Aston Martin, consider the DBS Superleggera. It's the most capable front-engine production car on offer from the brand right now, with 715 horsepower from a twin-turbo V-12 under the hood. This one only has 1500 miles on the odometer, and it's for sale.

Rolls-Royce Wraith

While the Wraith is undoubtedly more full-on luxury machine than performance-oriented grand-tourer, it still deserves a spot on this list. It's the sportiest car in Rolls-Royce's lineup, packing a twin-turbo V-12 making an impressive 624 horsepower. Here's one painted in purple for sale now.

The RS 7 isn't exactly a two-door coupe, but its grand touring intentions are just as pure as any other car on this list. It provides massive power paired with loads of tech and comfort features, plus an all-wheel drive system than can get you through pretty much anything. And it looks cool as hell.

Porsche 928

The 928 was originally meant to replace the 911, coming as a strong departure from Porsche's original formula. The 928 used a front-mounted, water-cooled V-8 sending power to a rear transaxle. Thankfully, the 911 persevered , but we love the 928's decidedly 1980s style. This early manual-equipped model is in great condition, and it can be yours.

Porsche 911

Of course, the 911 has always been a great all-rounder worthy of being on this list. It's comfortable enough to drive everyday, supremely luxurious, and plenty capable around your favorite back road. Here's a used 2020 model up for grabs on eBay now.

Maserati GranTurismo

The GranTurismo has been around for more than a decade, nearly unchanged from when it first hit showrooms in 2007. With a Ferrari-designed V-8 and stellar looks, it remains one of the most stylish new cars you can own. Over 10 years later, it's still being built, and the refreshed models look great . If you're willing to brave the maintenance costs, older models can now be had for under $30,000 .

Jaguar E-Type

You can't mention Grand Touring cars without bringing up the Jaguar E-Type. It's become an icon in the classic car world, sought after by collectors for its fantastic design and wonderful driving elements. You can own this British racing green Series I model today.

Mercedes-Benz SL

For decades, the Mercedes SL has occupied a corner in the company's lineup as a two-seater GT perfect for long drives and top-down fun. Nowadays, cars like the S-Class convertible and AMG GT convertible offer similar top-down joy, but we still love the SL. This AMG SL63 has just 8100 miles on the clock, and it can be yours.

Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe

If you need a bit more space in your Mercedes-badged GT car, the bigger S-Class is a perfect SL alternative. Available in coupe or convertible form, it's perfectly suited to cruise without a fuss for hours in endless comfort. This S63 model is for sale right now online.

Lexus LC500

Though the LC500 uses Lexus's 5.0-liter naturally aspirated V-8, it's designed to be an all-around daily driver with a goal of comfort and satisfaction behind the wheel. The result is one of Lexus's best cars ever. Here's a beautiful blue model you can own now.

Where to watch Porsche Tennis Grand Prix 2024: Schedule, channel, prize money, tickets for WTA Stuttgart Open

T he latest big event on the 2024 WTA Tour is up and running in Germany, with the first round of the 46th edition of the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix from Stuttgart. Following two days of qualifying matches and finals, the stage is set for some of the leading lights in women's tennis, none more so than world number one and defending champion Iga Swiatek.

Atop the pile of 24 seeded players coming into the tournament's first round, 22-year-old Polish star Swiatek will be looking to make it three victories in a row, having defeated second seed Aryna Sabalenka in each of the past two finals.

Sabalenka is on a run of three final appearances and three losses, having also been pipped 3-6 6-0 6-3 by Australia's Ash Barty in the 2021 tournament, and with players like Coco Gauff, Ons Jabeur and Emma Raducanu all looking to make an impact in Stuttgart, there's an enthralling week of tennis ahead.

BUY NOW:  Cheapest tickets still remaining for 2024 Porsche Tennis Grand Prix

We've got plenty to keep an eye on over the next few days as the 24 seeded players take each other on, as well as the remaining qualifiers, and your best place to keep track of all the action from Stuttgart is with The Sporting News .

2024 Porsche Tennis Grand Prix schedule

Nine days of top-class tennis begin on Saturday, April 13 at 11:00 a.m. local time (CET), with two round of qualifying to reach the first round, which in turn gets underway at 2:00 p.m. local time on Monday, April 15.

The tournament sees both the singles and doubles competitions run in tandem each day, with all matches after the qualifiers and early first round ties taking place on Centre Court at the Porsche-Arena in Stuttgart.

It all culminates on the afternoon of Sunday, April 21, with first serve in the singles tournament final at 1:00 p.m. local time, and the doubles decider is due to begin shortly afterwards depending on when the action from the first final finishes.

2024 Porsche Tennis Grand Prix TV channel, live stream

Here's how to watch live coverage of the 2024 Porsche Tennis Grand Prix across selected regions of the world:

USA:  The home of tennis in the US, the Tennis Channel, are broadcasting full coverage of each match live on American cable TV, as well as their streaming service TC Plus. Fubo  also have access to the Tennis Channel's feed and are streaming the whole tournament live for subscribers, as well as offering a FREE trial for new customers.

Canada:  With no confirmed terrestrial TV coverage of the tournament in Canada,  DAZN  is your best bet to keep tabs on the action. Their broadcast deal with the WTA gives them access to some of the world's best tennis stars.

UK:  Sky Sports' own tennis channel will be showing live and catch-up coverage of this year's Porsche Tennis Grand Prix, either via your TV subscription with Sky or access to either of their broadcast feeds on Sky Go or NOW TV.

Australia:  Like in Canada, there's yet to be any confirmed TV coverage of the tournament down under, but the majority of WTA events are shown on beIN Sports.

2024 Porsche Tennis Grand Prix prize money

The total cache of prize money for this year's Porsche Tennis Grand Prix is a whopping $922,573, which will see the winner of the singles tournament pocket $142,000 alone! Unlike some WTA tournaments though, players will only receive payment if they qualify for the first round, raising the stakes for the first two days of qualification on April 13 and 14.

The $922,573 prize fund in 2024 is a massive increase on last year's $780,637, and with this also being one of the sport's premier events on the WTA Tour, 500 competition points are awarded to the winner as part of the overall table.

2024 Porsche Tennis Grand Prix tennis tickets

  • Tickets: StubHub
  • Cheapest: $99
  • Most expensive: $151

Tickets for this year's Porsche Tennis Grand Prix are selling at a rapid rate of knots on StubHub , with the previously cheapest and most expensive on offer already hoovered up! That includes the final on April 21, which is completely sold out, and there's limited availability left across the board leading up to the decider.

Thankfully,  StubHub  has you covered with a full seating plan of Centre Court at the Porsche-Arena , meaning you'll be able to choose exactly where you want to sit — if there are still seats left.

This event also doesn't have a massively wide range of pricing akin to other tennis tournaments, with the cheapest tickets still on sale beginning at $99 , but the most expensive still on the  StubHub  market being just $151.

What's new for 2024.

A new range-topping S/T model joins the GT3 lineup for 2024. This limited-edition trim combines the 518-hp engine from the GT3 RS, the more subdued looks of the GT3 Touring, and comes only with a manual transmission. Hurry in your order to the Porsche dealer though, as only 1963 models will be made. Elsewhere, the 911 GT3 gains wireless Android Auto connectivity and the infotainment system now features Spotify integration as standard.

Pricing and Which One to Buy

The price of the 2024 Porsche 911 GT3 / GT3 RS starts at $184,550 and goes up to $291,650 depending on the trim and options.

As with the last generation, Porsche offers two slightly different versions of the “standard” GT3, the basic winged model and a Touring variant that tones down the racy look by nixing the big rear wing . And then there's the hardest-core GT3 of them all, the RS. It's hard to pick just one of the trio to recommend as they're all incredible cars, but our hearts belong to the absurd GT3 RS.

Engine, Transmission, and Performance

In the tail end of the 911 GT3 is a naturally aspirated 4.0-liter flat-six that makes 502 horsepower. The engine is essentially identical to the one that powered the last 911 Speedster we tested , which spun to 9000 rpm and wailed hypnotically. The GT3 offers both a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic (a.k.a. PDK) or a six-speed manual. The PDK-equipped example we drove showcased the automatic's intuitive behavior as well as the engine's spirited responses and intoxicating soundtrack. At our test track, the automatic managed a 2.7-second 60-mph time while the six-speed manual test vehicle snapped off an impressive 3.3-second run to 60 mph . The GT3 RS and S/T models get tuned up to 518 horsepower and come with more aero elements to increase downforce to stick them to the road. The GT3 RS comes with an outrageous rear wing that incorporates a drag-reduction system similar to those on Formula 1 race cars. At our test track, the GT3 RS hit 60 mph in the same 2.7 seconds as the automatic GT3 we tested, but thanks to those downforce-enhancing add-ons, it pulled 1.16 gs on our skidpad versus the GT3's 1.11 g result. The most notable performance upgrade on this latest generation of GT3 models is their control-arm front suspension, which is a first for a production 911. Combine that with standard adaptive dampers and sticky Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2–or stickier Cup R–tires and the coupe's chassis provides tremendous cornering grip and unfiltered feedback. While the GT3's ride is undeniably firm it's never punishing, and the electrically assisted steering is so divinely communicative that it deserves anointment as the best in the business. The RS is stiffened up for the track to the point where some drivers may find it a bit too uncomfortable for the street. But if you're one of those folks, consider the Touring model instead. Stopping the purist's Porsches are massive steel binders; a carbon-ceramic option provides heroic braking power, easy modulation, and resists fade at the track. We also tested a 2023 Porsche 911 GT3 RS as part of a 0-to-150-to-0 speed test where it returned to a stop in just 24.4 seconds.

Fuel Economy and Real-World MPG

The EPA has rated the 911 GT3 at 15 mpg city and 18 mpg highway when equipped with the automatic transmission. Going with the manual transmission drops the city figure to 14 mpg. Once we have the opportunity to run one on our 75-mph highway fuel economy route, which is part of our extensive testing regimen , we can evaluate its real-world mpg.

Interior, Comfort, and Cargo

The GT3's interior is very similar to the rest of the 911 lineup, with a clean design and simple layout that pays homage to past iterations of Porsche's quintessential sports car. However, there are a handful of unique characteristics throughout the cabin. The GT3's gauge cluster still features a prominent analog tachometer flanked by digital displays, but it gets a specific GT mode that puts all important information directly on the displays surrounding the central tach. The RS model gets extra steering wheel controls to adjust the adaptive dampers' rebound and compression levels. Models with the PDK automatic transmission also replace the stubby center-console shifter found on the regular 911s with a traditional-looking lever that mimics a manual shifter. As in the last GT3, there's no cramped backseat for kiddos, but furbabies can snuggle in there if they can stand the noise. Porsche also offers more than one style of front seat, with an optional set of lightweight buckets designed to reduce mass and increase support.

Infotainment and Connectivity

The infotainment system found on the regular 911 finds its way into the GT3 version. That means a 10.9-inch touchscreen inhabits the center of the dashboard and is supplemented by some physical controls on the steering wheel as well as on the center console. The Porsche's connectivity features include wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as a Wi-Fi hotspot. There's also an option to upgrade to a Bose stereo.

Safety and Driver-Assistance Features

Driver-assistance technology is not part of the GT recipe, with backup sensors and traffic-sign recognition being the only options one might consider "assistance" features. For more information about the 911 GT3's crash-test results, visit the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration ( NHTSA ) and Insurance Institute for Highway Safety ( IIHS ) websites.

Warranty and Maintenance Coverage

Porsche provides a competitive limited and powertrain warranty that also includes one no-cost maintenance visit. Mercedes-AMG , for example, doesn't include any maintenance with the purchase of its car.

  • Limited warranty covers four years or 50,000 miles
  • Powertrain warranty covers four years or 50,000 miles
  • Included maintenance is covered for one year or 10,000 miles

The Car Guide

The 911 Grand Tour: Putting Prosects in Porsches

2017 Porsche 911 Carrera / Carrera S

CLARINGTON, Ontario – It’s hard to imagine why the German automaker would embark on a nationwide tour to promote the Porsche 911. After all, the iconic sports car is more than 50 years old, and no longer needs an introduction.

As a teenager, pictures of cars neatly covered every square inch of my bedroom walls. Deciding between a poster of the Porsche 911 or a Samantha Fox pinup was relatively easy, despite both being highlighted by two very big, round, attention-grabbing objects. I chose a 1989 911 Carrera 4, the first all-wheel drive variant of the car and it was the biggest poster on the wall.

  • Also: 2017 Porsche 911 Turbo: Still at the Top
  • Also: 2017 Porsche 911 Carrera: Entering The Turbocharged Era

I’m assuming I’m not the only person who spent a lot of time gazing into the 911’s eyes, dreaming one day of driving one. Samantha Fox, who also reached 50 recently, was a passing fad, but my admiration of the legendary Porsche wasn’t.

Still, there are probably some people out there who know the name 911, but have never really warmed up to the car. Maybe because it had a reputation of being a tricky car to drive with its funky weight balance. Its engine is located aft of the rear axle, and if a corner was taken too enthusiastically and the tail broke loose, only the most skilled drivers could bring it back in line.

But that’s old news. The most recent generation of the Porsche 911, code-named 991, is the most user-friendly of the bunch, and the most forgiving to those of us who have no talent behind the wheel (but think we do). Thank modern technology and advanced electronic stability control systems for that.

The 911 Grand Tour’s objective is to bring a truckload of cars to each dealer—they’re called Service Centres now—and invite a select number of customers or potential buyers to try them out and compare them. Some Service Centres spent a few bucks for track time, some preferred keeping their prospective clients on public roads.

The 911, or 991 generation two

The cars in question are a diverse range of Carrera and Carrera S variants, in either Coupe, Targa or Cabriolet configurations, with or without all-wheel drive. We initially thought there would be a 911 GTS or a 911 Turbo in the mix, but the automaker is putting the emphasis on the cars with the new smaller-displacement, turbocharged engines.

Oh, in case you missed the headlines during the past six months, Porsche has integrated more turbocharging to the 911 range. The base Carrera gets a twin-turbo, 3.0-liter flat-six that generates 370 horsepower and 331 lb.-ft. of torque, while the Carrera S boasts the same engine, but massaged to produce 420 hp and 368 lb.-ft.

To give us a taste of what’s in store for the people invited to participate in the 911 Grand Tour, Porsche welcomed a bunch of journalists to the Canadian Tire Motorsport Park outside of Toronto for a perfectly sunny day of testing.

On the morning agenda, we hit the road aboard the slew of 911s and drove through the towns surrounding the motorsports complex. For this portion of the day, we jumped on a 911 Cabriolet and quickly dropped its top. During the drive with the windows down, wind noise was low and a conversation inside the cockpit can be had without resorting to shouting. For such a visceral sports car, it’s amazing how comfortable the suspension can be during normal driving. At least compared to some of its rivals such as the BMW 6 Series, the Aston Martin Vantage and the Mercedes-AMG GT.

The additional 20 horses and improved fuel economy of the turbocharged engines come at a price. The naturally aspirated engines 3.6L and 3.8L Boxers of the 991 Gen One had a more vicious soundtrack, and the new blown sixes’ shriek seems a little muffled. Power also peaks 900 rpm earlier, which also has an impact on the engine’s voice. The optional Sport Exhaust System goes from a nice-to-have feature to a must-have.

Upon our return to CTMP, we were invited to try out two 911s on an autocross course set up to demonstrate the car’s agility. One of the cars was equipped with AWD as well as rear-axle steering, newly optional on the 911 Carrera S, while the other car wasn’t.

Through the slalom course, the Miami Blue 911 Carrera 4S snaked through the cones with cat-like finesse, aided by its rear-steer system. The latter barely rotates the rear wheels in the same direction as the front ones at higher speeds, while at a more relaxed pace, the rear wheels twist in the opposite direction as the fronts. Meanwhile, the rear-drive 911’s front end felt lighter, with a touch less understeer.

After lunch, we finally hit the circuit. CTMP’s Driver Development Track is a fine playground for evaluating a car’s dynamics, a tight course with plenty of twists, turns and elevation changes. And as its name implies, it’s also a good place to sharpen one’s driving skills, experienced or not.

After a couple of moderately fast laps around the track, we started getting a hang of the 911’s handling and weight balance. As was the case on the autocross course, the RWD 911s exhibited crisper turn-in, with slightly less mass on the front axle. Otherwise, the tangible differences between the various variations of 911s tested were mainly due to suspension setups.

Although Porsche Active Suspension Management, or PASM, is standard across the board, among the group were a base 911 Carrera Coupe and a Cabriolet that didn’t include the Sport Chrono Package, and they were the toughest to drive in order to keep the pace with the rest. The latter adds the SPORT PLUS mode that stiffens the suspension even more, which helps reduce body roll.

The Carrera S versions obviously benefit from their 50-hp advantage, but they can also be decked out with Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control (active roll stabilization) and PASM Sport Suspension (active variable damping and 20-mm drop), which bring incremental increases in handling prowess on the track. They also ratchet the price of the car up accordingly; the blue 911 Carrera 4S tested, the most rewarding one to drive hard of the bunch, included pretty much all the hardware mentioned above, and rings up more than $170K on the cash register.

Oh, and aside from barely noticeable styling revisions, these 991 Gen Two cars now feature the latest Porsche Communication Management infotainment system that’s a significant improvement from the previous interface.

Now, you’re interested in getting in on the 911 Grand Tour, so what should you do? Nothing. The event isn’t open to the general public, you must be hand-picked by your local dealer. Still, this is the kind of extra value a brand like Porsche can give its loyal customers, and those who’ll have the opportunity to participate in the 911 Grand Tour will definitely enjoy themselves.

Just for fun, if we’re not going to track our 911, we’d chose a base Carrera Coupe, slap on a set of 20-inch Carrera S wheels, select the Black/Bordeaux Red interior combination, add the heated seats and tick the Sport Chrono Package and Sport Exhaust System option boxes. If we’re more into a track beast, the Carrera S with all the suspension and steering upgrades is the way to go.

Samantha Fox, which also recently celebrated her 50th birthday, seems to have aged well, but the Porsche 911 is getting better with age.

Fun facts from our Moscow Metro Tours:

From the very first days of its existence, the Moscow Metro was the object of civil defense, used as a bomb shelter, and designed as a defense for a possible attack on the Soviet Union.

At a depth of 50 to 120 meters lies the second, the coded system of Metro-2 of Moscow subway, which is equipped with everything you need, from food storage to the nuclear button.

According to some sources, the total length of Metro-2 reaches over 150 kilometers.

The Museum was opened on Sportivnaya metro station on November 6, 1967. It features the most interesting models of trains and stations.

Coffee Ring

The first scheme of Moscow Metro looked like a bunch of separate lines. Listen to a myth about Joseph Stalin and the main brown line of Moscow Metro.

Zodiac Metro

According to some astrologers, each of the 12 stops of the Moscow Ring Line corresponds to a particular sign of the zodiac and divides the city into astrological sector.

Astrologers believe that being in a particular zadiac sector of Moscow for a long time, you attract certain energy and events into your life.

Paleontological finds

Red marble walls of some of the Metro stations hide in themselves petrified inhabitants of ancient seas. Try and find some!

  • Moscow subway system is the  5th in the intensity  of use (after the subways of Beijing, Tokyo, Seoul and Shanghai).
