Tours to the Holy Land: Trips & Israel Tour Packages 2024, 2025

"Every place we visited was breathtakingly beautiful, with stunning landscapes and rich historical and cultural heritage. We highly recommend visiting Israel to anyone who wants to experience an unforgettable journey. We had a life-changing time there and are already planning to return." Simon L. and Beatriz G. – Tour to Israel/Egypt/Jordan February 2024 "I had a wonderful time in Israel. I felt while I was there the precautions that were taken for our safety were well in hand. I still got to experience many holy sites and be blessed by walking the path that Jesus walked. Every day was started in prayer, singing, or scripture reading which also extended the blessing of the trip." Quincie L. – Tour to Israel/Egypt/Jordan February 2024

Our Israel tours & Holy Land tours of 9-24 days for the Evangelical Protestant Bible believer are what Pilgrim Tours does best. Prepare yourself for a life-changing journey to walk where Jesus walked and visit Jerusalem, Galilee, & Samaria. Each of our Israel tours is led by a local guide who is an experienced expert on the historical, cultural, scenic, and spiritual history of the Holy Land. If you travel with 10 or more people, a private group tour can easily be arranged. Pilgrim Tours can customize an itinerary to fit your group needs with many options to choose from.

Concerned about safety? As a Christian tour operator, the staff at Pilgrim Tours takes a Biblical perspective regarding the current situation in the Middle East. We do not believe that peace in Israel is something that will occur until the Prince of Peace comes to restore His kingdom. Please do not make a reservation with us based on the hopes of a calm future. If you long for the special blessings only available in Israel, we will take you there. An expert driver and guide will carefully keep you from any areas that could present a problem and treat you to the riches of Israel as our special guest.

Featured Sites in Israel

Explore a vast selection of beautiful historical and Biblical locations throughout Israel with our Israel Holy Land tour. You can visit Jerusalem, Galilee, and parts of Samaria, getting the life-changing opportunity to see where Jesus and many other Biblical figures lived and walked. We even offer Holy Land tours that allow you to see the Dead Sea, the Garden Tomb, and the Jordan River Baptism Site. Like all of our Europe tours , our Israel Holy Land tours are led by local guides who have extensive knowledge of the area and its history. If you want to experience the history of Israel and see the Bible come to life, our Holy Land tours give you that opportunity.

The city of Jerusalem offers a unique convergence of Judaism, Christianity, and the Muslim faith. For Christians who visit Jerusalem, you will learn about many stories of the Bible while walking her streets. Many actors in the Bible such as Abraham, King David, King Solomon, the twelve disciples and Jesus all lived, visited, or spent time there. The Passion week of Christ will be highlighted during our stay as we visit the Mount of Olives, the Garden of Gethsemane, the Western Wall, the Way of Suffering, and the Garden Tomb.

Sea of Galilee

Nowhere in Israel does the Bible come to life more than along the shores of the Sea of Galilee. Pilgrims who visit the Galilee region have the opportunity to imagine what life was like 2,000 years ago and what Jesus and the twelve disciples experienced while fishing on the Sea of Galilee. The peaceful setting and the natural wonders of the Golan Heights to the east and Mt. Arbel to the west make for a great way to start your morning in quiet reflection. During our tour, we explore the Biblical towns of Capernaum, Magdala, and Nazareth and take a meaningful cruise on the Sea of Galilee.

The Dead Sea is not only the lowest and most lifeless lake in the world, but also nearly 10 times saltier than the ocean. Travelers will enjoy the beautiful colors of the blue water and the red mountains of Jordan to the east. Take time to enjoy a once-in-a-lifetime Dead Sea “float” either in the sea itself or at one of the warm salt water pools at our hotel. The Dead Sea experience is truly a bucket list visit you won’t want to miss!

Garden Tomb

Our visit to the Garden Tomb and its surrounding gardens is normally one of the highlights of our tour to Israel. The Garden Tomb is a rock-cut tomb in Jerusalem that was unearthed in 1867 and is considered by some Protestants to be the site of the burial and resurrection of Jesus. Our visit offers a unique time of prayer, reflection, communion, and praise, which will be a special life-long memory for many travelers.

Jordan River Baptism Site

The Jordan River Baptist Site or “Yardenit” is a baptism site located along the Jordan River just south of the Sea of Galilee in northern Israel. This site is frequented by Christian Pilgrims who enjoy imagining the setting of the baptism of Jesus. For anyone who would like to be baptized in the Jordan River, Yardenit has been developed to be a peaceful setting with beautiful gardens, clean colored water, changing facilities, showers, and a nice souvenir shop.

Caesarea Philippi

To many Pilgrim travelers, Caesarea Philippi is a special surprise while on their tour. Located along the rushing springs of Mt. Hermon, the beautiful and natural setting is where Jesus asked his disciples “Who do men say that I am?” He asked this question while observing the pagan worship of the god Pan as worshipers offered their sacrifice at the “Gates of Hell.” Our time at Caesarea Philippi is one of many opportunities throughout our tour to see the lessons and message of the Bible come to light in a special way.

Israel Tours: Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best month for the Holy Land tour?

Taking a trip to Israel during the spring or fall offers the most enjoyable weather of the year but normally has the largest crowds. If you want to enjoy a peaceful tour with fewer crowds, consider visiting between December and February or June and August. We offer Israel and Jordan tours throughout the year, so you can select a trip that works for your schedule.

How many days do you need for a Holy Land tour?

We offer several types of tours of the Holy Land, so the duration of your tour depends on the tour package you choose. The Best of Israel Tour is our most basic offering and includes a Sea of Galilee boat ride, a trip to the Jordan River Baptism Site, the Dead Sea, and many opportunities to walk on the same land Jesus walked on. This is our shortest trip at just 9 or 10 days. Our most involved trips allow you to experience a wide range of historical locations over the course of a few weeks. Egypt tours are included in some of these packages, as well as tours in Greece and other countries. These tours can take up to 24 days, giving you the chance to spend an extended period of time learning about and visiting different parts of the world. From our Turkey tours to all of our Israel Christian tours, all of our tours feature a first-class hotel rating for the country you visit. We do offer some upgraded tours that offer better lodging options. You can review our hotel categories at https://www.pilgrimtours.com/company/hotelcomparison.htm . Check out any of our tours to view a day-by-day itinerary and see what amenities are included with each tour.

What is the dress code in Israel?

The dress code in Israel is different from other parts of the world. There are a few dress code basics you should understand before booking Israel tours: When you’re in Israel, there is no strict dress code. You can wear what you feel comfortable wearing. However, both men and women should try to dress conservatively and cover their shoulders and knees when visiting any of the religious sites throughout Israel. Generally speaking, it’s best to avoid tank tops and shorts. Men need to cover their heads when visiting the Western Wall. Pilgrim Tours provides a Pilgrim Tours ball cap upon arrival in Israel, but you might consider purchasing an affordable kippa that you can bring when you visit Jewish sites. Some places may offer a free kippa, but these are generally low quality. (Women are not required to cover their heads at any sight.) You can figure out what you need to pack and how to dress each day by looking at the itinerary for our Holy Land tours. Guides normally offer guidance on how to dress for the next day while on tour. We also suggest looking at the extended weather forecast as you prepare and pack for your trip.

Is there a lot of walking involved on an Israel Tour?

Our Israel tours do require a significant amount of walking each day and you should be able to walk unassisted 3-4 miles per day on average. Make sure you have a comfortable pair of shoes that provide adequate support. While there are bus and boat rides during these tours, you have to walk quite a bit to explore some of the Biblical sites. Our tour guides normally give the group a few options at sites for those that have physical limitations. One thing to keep in mind is that there are many hills and valleys in Israel which can make walking even more taxing. The amount of walking you have to do may vary based on the tour you take, so look at the itinerary before choosing your tour. The good news is that Israel is a beautiful country to see on foot, and you’ll have several opportunities to sit down and give your feet a rest. As long as you have a good pair of shoes and comfortable clothes, it’s easy to forget about all the walking you’re doing and enjoy the tour.

What passport & visa information do I need for your Israel tours?

U.S. citizens need a valid U.S. passport with at least six months validity beyond their intended stay to enter Israel. Make two photocopies of your passport. Leave one copy at home and carry the other separately from your original. Israel: U.S. and Canadian Citizens do not need a Visa when entering Israel. Non U. S. /Canadian Citizens are responsible to fulfill appropriate entry requirements of destination. Contact your Consulate office for requirements.

What common languages will be spoken during your Israel tours?

Hebrew, Arabic and English.

What currency can I use on your Israel tours?

The U.S. dollar is widely accepted across Israel, and we suggest bringing about $30 for each day you’ll be on tour. U.S. dollars are recommended for use for small purchases and lunches. Lunches typically cost $15-20. It is important to bring about 20 $1 bills as some bathrooms charge a small fee for use. Credit cards may also be used for larger purchases. ATMs in Israel are all connected to European and American banking systems. Please be advised that the ATM machines dispense money in SHEKELS – NOT U.S. DOLLARS. Please notify your bank before traveling overseas.

Do I need to bring a converter for the Israel tour?

Israel uses the European plug with two round pins. You will need to bring along the necessary converters and adapters to operate any 120 volt appliances such as hair dryers and electric razors as well as camera and cell phone chargers. Electricity in Israel is 220 volts 50 Hz.

What is the time zone for your Israel tours?

The time zone for Israel is seven hours ahead of EST and two hours ahead of GMT.

What climate should I expect during your Israel tours?

In Israel the climate is temperate, and temperatures all year-round are reasonable. Israel has two main seasons: winter (from November to March) is cold and rainy in most parts of the country; summer (from April to October) is hot and dry with little or no rainfall. The desert areas can be extremely hot in summer time.

"Pilgrim tours is who I'll be recommending people to travel with. We've been trying to get to Israel for two years and finally made it!! Great company from booking to on the ground with great guides. All details taken care of with great hotels, bus, and the best guides!! Wonderful experience!"

"We had a great experience in Israel with Pilgrim Tours. Everything went very well and there were no glitches or problems of any kind. The bus and driver were top notch as were the hotels and daily breakfast buffets. Our tour guide was great as his depth of knowledge of the people, history and languages Israel was quite amazing. We will very likely use Pilgrim again in the future."

"We have toured with Pilgrim Tours three times and what a blessing. Accommodations, excursions, information and food were all high quality. Post pandemic, we were so thankful to return to Israel."

"I couldn't have asked for more for a trip to the Holy Land than what Pilgrim Tours provided me. It was the perfect balance of spiritual reverence, history, geography, and social issues. I am so grateful for the experience that I had on this trip."

Highlights of the Holy Land Best Experience - 8 Days

It was such an excellent tour specially for first timer to visit Israel . I think I will come back to get more focus and time on the holy places that is important in my religion. I understand why we were not able to spend more time in some places like church of sepulcher because of long line. For people who expect more time in this places should book a tour faith based. This tour gave me a lot of information, overview of the holy land and important historical places , UNESCO sites for such short amount time . Claude our tour guide and elan bus driver were excellent. I’ll give them 5 stars . Thank you .

Heritage of the Holyland Tour - 8 days

All was good Alice was a great guide The last couple of days in Bethlehem and the old City I felt was rushed and we were pushed into eating and souvenir shops I didn’t want to go Please allow tourists to negotiate with guides about eating and buying places Suggestion: allow for a coffee break mid morning, it was a long time between breakfast and lunch which was sometimes 2.30pm Meals at the Tiberias hotel we’re disorganised: they didn’t seem to know we were come Shalom hotel was excellent Alix was a great guide Edmond in Bethlehem was pushy and repetitive: he was knowledgeable and helpful but again felt he pushed us into buying and eating places which were over priced Over all I had a great time and only mention the above because I am Australian and the Filipino and 3 South African with me don’t need large meals in the middle of the day. A couple of coffee/drink breaks with a small sandwich/roll would have been enough Tim Moloney

Totally Jordan - 8 Days Tour

Totally Jordan - 8 Days

This was our first tour. We are both fit aged 71 and 64. We can’t say enough about this tour. Fantastic, incredible, awesome. The itinerary was tight but doable. The information given to us by “On The Go” was clear and precise. The hotels were better than we had expected but the icing on the cake was our guide Hameed or AJ as he preferred. He brought us all together as a family and conveyed to us his love of Jordon through it’s history and culture, bringing everything to life. A wonderful genuine guy. I could go through the sights we visited but they were all well above our expectations. We found that the last day of the tour basically left us a free day to enjoy the hotel and dead sea. Some of our group found this a waste of a day, personally we found it rewarding as it gave us time to relax after a hard week of sightseeing. Thank you “On The Go” for making a great holiday totally awesome.

Thoroughly recommend this tour. The itinerary covered everything we wanted to see. All the arrangements worked ike clockwork, our guide was absolutely fantastic! Only criticism would be the choice of hotels, the food was buffet style, never hot and finished by 7.30 to 8 so very early nights. Not really 4 star. But that’s only a minor point, overall it was one of the best holidays I have had. Thank you Tourrader!

There is so much to see and absorb that some days were just too jam-packed. In particular, the Jerusalem day started out on the Mount of Olives and by the end of the day, everyone was completely exhausted and suffering from information overload. It was all relevant and interesting but simply too much for one day.

Timeless Egypt & Jordan Tour

Timeless Egypt & Jordan

This trip was incredible! The details were all taken care of and there were so many times we were so grateful to have a guide because we wouldn't have known how to handle certain cultural situations. King Mina was an amazing guide. He was very knowledgeable and friendly. He really made this trip the experience of a lifetime.

What people love about Holy Land Tours

Mo was an excellent tour leader in that he has such passion and enthusiasm about Jordan. I learnt so much about the history and culture and so enjoyed all of the activities. Mo went over and beyond to ensure my dietary needs were met as I have coeliac disease which was much appreciated. Highly recommend this tour.
We had the most amazing guide Leah Dor and the best driver Hassan they both was so lovely, accomodating and went out their way to be so helpful and gave us some extra nice suprises throughout the tour. Everything was a good pace, never rushed and saw so much place and Leah was an expert with knowledge. Transfer drivers was on time when arrived plus to leave. Reliable company and organised well. Only thing, if you want to visit where Jesus was born inside the church, there is a big que and it is not part of this tour as this is just the highlights, they visit the church but not to que for certain things like that which many was not aware of so read the intinary clearly

What an awesome experience.

This is our second visit to the Holy Land with Elbow Holy Land Tours and all I can say is – “I want to be back there again!!”

Yaron, Uri and the team are brilliant guys and are a real blessing and a wealth of information. We were taken from the Lebanon / Syrian border in the North all the way down to Eilat in the South over two weeks and to say we enjoyed our tour would be an understatement.

I had a fabulous trip to Israel going on the Roots of Your Faith tour. Life changing and so amazing. Yeshay, also known as Jessie, my tour guide, was so knowledgeable, organized, funny, and kind. He was very attentive to everyone on the tour. I learned so much from him about life in Israel, its people, culture, and most importantly all of the significant biblical history at each holy site we visited. Aaron, our driver, was charming, jovial, and professional to make sure he got everyone to each destination with ease. The hotel accommodations were lovely with wonderful food, shout out to all the great chefs, and pleasant hotel staff. Thank you AIT!

Roots of Your Faith Oct 2022

An AMAZING experience from start to finish with AIT! I booked the Roots of our Faith tour to travel with my Father since Israel was on the top of his list to see in life. It turned out to be the most memorable trip of our lives for both of us!! Our tour guide Barak Berkovich was beyond phenomenal!! We are so incredibly fortunate to have had a guide so unbelievably knowledgeable, with a great sense of humor, along with possessing the rare ability to make us feel safe and secure the entire time! I have traveled extensively around the world, taking many tours, and I have never had a better guide than Barak! He was absolutely captivating (even after our 8-10 hour days of sightseeing) he kept us wanting to see and hear more!! If you are considering traveling to Israel, dont wait! Call them to book today! The process was flawless. Skyler in booking took care of every detail for us, including flight suggestions that worked out perfectly. We were picked up as soon as we landed at the airport and received the red carpet treatment the remainder of the trip. The food and hotels provided were wonderful. Our fellow group travelers were some of the most loving and faithful people I've ever had the pleasure of meeting! The itinerary was everything we could have ever hoped to see and more!!! Thank you AIT for the most extraordinary pilgrimage of a lifetime!! The memories will live on for the rest of our lives!

Roots of Your Faith Nov 2022

Our tour guide, Bruce, was wonderful, very knowledgeable and helpful. Hearing about the Biblical events from a Jewish perspective was enlightening for me. This tour was a whirlwind of sights and history for a solid week, but I highly recommend it.

The trip was worth the wait after Covid. Skylar & Regan from AIT answered all questions & sent pertinent paperwork as needed to get us started on a memorable journey. The first week is the Roots tour with Jordan as an extension. Forty-one started with 18 going on to Jordan. If you get Yair as a tour guide in Israel, you are getting the best guide. Not only is he knowledgeable & very personable, but also funny making each stop memorable. Menahem, the bus driver, uses his driving skills in difficult situations. If women had short sleeve tops, a shawl was not necessary, but definitely needed for sleeveless tops. No need to change dollars which were accepted when credit cards couldn't be used. Have plenty of $1 bills especially for water which was sold everywhere. Crossing the border to Jordan for 2 extra nights was definitely worthwhile. Jerash ruins show a huge ancient city, but Petra is a true wonder of the world. There is a lot of walking, sometimes on uneven surfaces & uphill. An electric cart (for a fee) can be taken between the Visitors Center & the Treasury if you are unable to walk long distances. You can ride a horse part way which is included in the ticket price, but the handler will expect a tip. Once reaching the Treasury, a very short camel ride can be taken (about $5). Our guide Saleh was knowledgeable and answered all our questions. This trip not only enriched my faith as so many others have said, but I got to see different cultures and met a lot of great people.

Roots of Your Faith Sep 2022

Only day three of our Roots of Your Faith tour with Jordon and Egypt extension and AIT has provided service beyond expectations. As we travel the remainder of our nearly three week trip I am confident the experience will continue to be exceptional. Yair, our tour guide, is knowledgeable not only of the historic perspective but also biblically and delivers the information with clarity.

We booked our 10 Day "Roots of Your Faith " with AIT Since 2020. Due to the Covid-19 Pandemic, we could not travel. We finally got cleared and traveled at end of August! AIT staff especially Skyler and Raegan always communicated with us and kept us informed about everything that was happening! Words cannot express our experience because it was that amazing. Well planned and executed in all apsects. Great hotels, sightseeing opportunities and great local spots to visit. Our tour guide Yoram was very knowledgable, passionate and lead us on our journey from day 1. We got to see so many of the Holy Sights and learned so much during our trip. I would definitely recommend this company and travel with them again!

Roots of Your Faith Aug 2022

Recently returned from an AIT “Roots of Your Faith” tour with visits to both sides of the Jordan. WOW! It was amazing! Both the California and Israeli based administrative teams who planned and organized the trip did so with precision and made our way comfortable and easy. We wanted to see “everything” and we did. Yair, our tour guide in Israel, made historical sites and Biblical events come alive with his knowledge, insight and presentation; and he did so in a way that faded the hectic atmosphere of some crowded sites. Our guide in Bethlehem and Emdad in Jordan enhanced our visits as well. The accommodations and hospitality at our hotels and dining rooms was excellent, particularly in Jerusalem and in Aman. Would I go with AIT again? Absolutely, in a heartbeat!

Roots of Your Faith Oct 2019

Early November is a fabulous time to visit Israel with the wonderful AIT crew. They looked after us the whole way through. They don’t talk up the Isrotel Hotel at the Dead Sea enough. That has to be the finest hotel on the water. It’s 5 stars by any standard! The peace and the beauty of the land is surprising... from the news you’d think this place is going to kick off at any moment. Our experience has been fantastic so far. If you’ve not been to Israel... you are missing a unique corner of the world... Come to Israel!!!

Roots of Your Faith Nov 2019

We had a really amazing tour From Old Jaffa to the Old city of Jerusalem Hotel and food accommodations were great , Our tour guide Yoram was really Informative and always willing to answer questions , Our experienced Driver Moshe always made us feel safe on the road . This tour will always be memorable to my heart and I totally recommend it . Zaida Humphrey

My husband & I have been enjoying our first visit to Israel on the America Israel Tour (AIT) company's "Roots of your Faith” tour. It has been a surprise to see so many other tours operating at the same time, and of course, all wanting to visit the same sites. We believe what make our tour special is our guide: Yoram Black. He has been professional, knowledgeable, accommodating, efficient, analytical, thoughtful and courteous. We have been on other tours in other countries and Yoram seems to be the hardest working and most prepared guide we have had the pleasure of touring with. I don’t know if it is Yoram or AIT that coordinates the timing of each day, but our itinerary seems to help us avoid the worst of the crowds. The company’s “Whisper” system of communication helps us all hear every word and feel like we are next to the guide, even if we are wandering the site, and regardless of the other tours. The tour is highly recommended. Karen and Indy from Sanibel Island, FL

tours of israel holy land

This was my first time to Israel, I had wanted to go for some time, but always seemed not able to. I’ve heard it said it’s beyond words, and I totally agree! Being in Israel, standing in the places where Jesus and the Apostles lived and traveled, going to the places that are recorded in the Bible was very emotional and humbling. Favorite places? I’d have to say all, but most memorable was the garden of Gethsemane, knowing the pain, suffering and isolation Jesus went through while all the time praying for us! Second, was the Magdala hotel that we stayed at in the city of Migdal was literally walking distance to the Sea of Galilee, you could stand on the shore and look north and see Capernaum, and to the south, Tiberias, and directly behind us Mt Arbel! I could go on and on. I’ve had many people say “wasn’t it dangerous?” to which I respond that I have never felt safer! Can’t wait to go again and learn more! Just writing this is reliving it! – Jim Eckes

Eyal for the past 6/7 years you have been handling my visits to Israel. I don’t know how you do it but every time your tours surpass the previous ones.

This one was no different! It totally surpassed the previous ones. My family’s first time in Israel was an incredible once in a lifetime experience thanks to your expertise in putting the tour together to accommodate each and everyone’s needs and desires.

There was excitement for my young grandchildren as there were things geared just for their age and desires. My family toured all of Israel for first time and missed out on nothing. Yet my daughter and I who had been there 4 times already found things never seen in our previous trips.

Your choice of guide all these years was the perfect one! Hillel made your efforts in putting everything together a total success. Looking forward to our next trip.

Thank you so much to your staff and guide Hillel for another awesome experience in Israel.

Beth Fisher

I apologize for the delay in my response. Thank you so much for the wonderful trip to Israel. I appreciate all your hard work in getting everything together. Our guides were great, knowledgeable and very accommodating. The hotels were conveniently located, comfortable and nicely furnished. Everything ran smoothly.

Israel

If you plan to travel to Israel soon, chances are you need some ideas of what to do and where to go during that trip. That’s why we have prepared a guide with travel tips for Israel to help you get the best possible experience!

So, if you are planning on traveling there soon, you will get to know where to go when visiting the country, how to keep yourself safe, and much more! Keep reading if you want to take the most out of your trip to the Holy Land.

Things to know before traveling to Israel

When traveling to Israel, there are plenty of things you need to know regarding this country. The main and most important of them all comes with the fact people need to behave according to the local culture. Israel is a religious country , so it’s advisable for people to follow these rules when visiting certain places, especially on religious sites.

Moving on to the tips for traveling to Israel, the next thing to know is about the language. While English is pretty common among locals, you might need to learn some Hebrew or Arabic . But don’t worry, chances are you won’t need this a lot.

As for the weather, Israel is considered a place with mild weather . While the weather is mostly warm all year long, during winter, the temperature drops a bit, and rain is most common in many cities. However, people have to remember that there are different types of ecosystems, which will make the weather vary for travelers.

travel tips isarel

Lastly, safety is a priority in Israel . People will get to see many locals dressed in the military, and that’s due to the fact they have to serve for 3 years once they turn 18. While this is not something to worry about, it’s actually a good sign of safety for travelers, but you have to keep out for pickpocketing!

Tips for traveling to Israel: How to plan?

When traveling to Israel, people need to plan their trip before arriving in the country . This is important as travelers need to have an idea of what to do once they arrive, so preparation is key for a lifetime adventure.

That’s why the first things to know before traveling to Israel are related to what to do before your trip . Let’s talk about the best times to travel, how to manage your currency there, where to stay, and much more!

So, get ready to prepare for your trip with our Israel travel tips!

1. Pick the perfect season for your Israel adventure

When deciding the perfect season for visiting Israel, people might have a hard time choosing the ideal time to travel to the Holy Land. Compared to other countries, it’s fair to say there are only two seasons in Israel , which are summer and winter.

Summer takes place from April to late October, and these are hot and humid months with no rain. Temperatures will range from 28° to 35°, especially during June, July, and August, which are the warmer months in the country.

On the other hand, winter is not as cold as it could be in other countries. The temperature varies from 18° to 14° in important cities like Jerusalem or Tel Aviv. The only downside is there’s a lot of rain during these months, but you can always keep an eye on the weather report to see what will happen while you are there.

Overall, March and April are great options for visiting the country , but if you prefer a bit more cold, from October to February, you can visit the country and take a walk in some local destinations that would be extremely hot during summer.

2. Secure your travel documents

One of the things you have to be most careful about is your travel documents . Our main recommendation is that, while you do need your passport to enter the country, you better leave it somewhere safe if you plan to walk around Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, or Haifa.

Bear in mind that before you travel, you need to have your travel documents with you at all times . If you have a visa, you better keep it among the documents you will show once you arrive at the airport.

Other than this, don’t forget other travel documents you might need, like travel insurance, your personal ID, or any other requirement you might find out from the country you are traveling to Israel!

3. Research on local currency and budgets

Israel has its own currency, so don’t think about using your local currency while you travel there. You will need to exchange your money to get New Israeli Shekel to pay for your expenses while traveling there.

On the other hand, if you plan to use your credit card or a similar payment method, it’s better to review the exchange rate to avoid surprises with your expenses .

As for budgets, Israel is an expensive place to travel . Hotels can cost more than $100 for a night, and we are talking about a cheap hotel! Food and alcohol are also expensive, so for most travelers, the idea is to take around $500 to $750 per day to enjoy their trip as much as possible.

4. Learn key Hebrew phrases to connect with locals

While most of the Israeli population are fluent in English and Hebrew, it’s better to have an idea of what to say in case you talk with someone who doesn’t speak English .

The idea is not to become fluent before traveling because that would be extremely hard to do, but having an idea of simple phrases can help a lot! Here are some for you to learn before arriving in Israel:

  • Shalom – Works for saying hello, but the actual meaning is peace
  • Bevakasha – Please
  • Slicha – Sorry/Excuse me
  • Boker Tov – Good morning
  • Erev Tov – Good evening
  • Mazel Tove- Good luck or congratulations
  • Toda/Toda Raba – Thank you, thank you very much, thank you a lot
  • Lehitra’ot – Goodbye or see you later

5. Make reservations in advance

Beware that Israel is quite touristic. Even though there are issues related to the Gaza conflict, people haven’t stopped traveling to the country, so it’s better to prepare where to stay in advance to avoid issues.

There are different ways for people to make a reservation in a hotel in advance, like Booking , and there will be lots of ideas to check before making a decision on where to stay. Once you have prepared your reservation, you will be one step closer to your trip!

woman taking photos in israel

Also, it’s ideal to book flights in advance . The idea of booking your flight months in advance is great as it helps to save money, and people will have to buy a flight-round ticket to avoid issues when entering the country.

Israel safety travel tips

It’s time to talk about the tips for traveling to Israel that people have to keep in mind while in the country. As travelers are now prepared for the before traveling , it’s also a must to be prepared to fully enjoy the now while visiting the country.

There are different tips for people to remember, such as where to go, how to dress, ideal times to do certain activities and much more.

beach in tel aviv israel travel tips

6. Stay informed and avoid sensitive areas

For travelers, it’s a must to stay informed of what’s happening in Israel . As we previously said, the Gaza conflict is still happening, so people have to stay away from that place as much as they can.

But there are also other places to have in mind that people should be careful about when visiting or while passing near them. The orthodox neighborhoods are totally different from what people see in Israel, especially when it comes to dressing, so be ready if you plan to go to one.

In other places like the Western Wall, temples, or the spot where Jesus was crucified, people have to dress properly to avoid issues with locals and authorities, especially if they come across an orthodox Jew.

7. Dress modestly to be mindful of religious customs

While Israel is more tolerant of how people look when traveling to the country, it’s better for travelers to be prepared when visiting certain locations.

While walking through Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, Haifa, or Beersheba, as long as people don’t go near orthodox neighborhoods, there should be no issue for travelers, as they can dress according to the weather in the city.

But, for religious destinations and orthodox neighborhoods , people have to be prepared to change their clothes. Men can walk around in t-shirts with long sleeves or sweaters if the weather allows them, and women should wear pants and avoid skirts while wearing long t-shirts as well. If necessary, women can get religious clothes near historical places.

8. Be vigilant in popular markets

Overall, Israel is a safe place to visit . People won’t have to worry much about the streets not being safe, but pickpocketing is still a common thing to see around popular markets and other places that travelers will love to visit.

One of the things to know about Israel is the fact travelers have to keep an eye on their stuff while visiting these markets. It’s recommended that you carry your things in front of you, so take a bag during those walks.

Try not to take lots of money with you, and keep your phone and wallet in a safe place! Other than this, no need to worry about popular markets.

9. Enjoy the outdoors responsibly

Israel has lots of things to do when it comes to enjoying activities outdoors. Whether you are walking around the Western Wall or taking a trip to the Negev Desert, you have to act responsibly during those activities.

The idea is to respect both the local culture and religion, but people have to respect the environment as well . There are more places to visit outdoors, such as the Dead Sea, the Galilee Sea, and historical ruins, so keep an eye on the rules and respect them while visiting those places.

travel tips isarel outdoors

10. Plan activities around Friday sunset

For people traveling to Israel, it’s important to keep in mind that the Jewish Religion has a major practice that takes place every week . This one is known as Shabbath and will start at sundown on Friday and will end after sundown on Saturday.

Overall, Shabbat takes around 25 hours before it ends, and practically everything in Israel is closed during that time. Buses, trains, and most stores won’t be available during that time, so you better not make plans during that time.

So, for those being in Israel on a Friday , it’s better to make activities until 4:00 PM. After that time, Shabbat begins. You surely would like to have your cell phone in Israel with you to spend that time watching series or something similar.

Final tips for traveling to Israel

Up to this point, people have an idea of how to prepare for their trip to Israel . Overall, this guide will give travelers a clear idea of how to act and what to expect from the Holy Land, which is great for new visitors.

One thing that’s also important for people to have with them in Israel is a method to stay connected to the internet while there. It can be a Pocket WiFi or a roaming service, or you can look for the best eSIMs for Israel . All of these are valid options for your trip, but we prefer to take the eSIM!

Now that you know how to prepare for your trip to Israel, the final advice we have for you is to get an eSIM Israel to stay connected to the internet ! Other than this, get ready to enjoy the Holy Land!

FAQ about travel tips for Israel

First, consider the dates when you are planning to go to Israel. Based on this, people will have the chance to know whether to take clothes for hot or relatively cold temperatures. What you need to pack, no matter the date, are clothes that respect the culture and religion in Israel, so keep that in mind.

Yes. Except for the Confrontation Area and places near Gaza, Israel remains one of the safest countries to visit in 2024.

Commentary: A prayer for finding balance in the Holy Land

Cease-fire now; release the hostages now.

(Samar Abu Elouf | The New York Times) Displaced Palestinians flee the war between Israel and Hamas in the northern Gaza Strip, walking to its southern section in November 2023.

God bless and protect the people of Israel; God bless and protect the people of Palestine.

God damn antisemitism; God damn Islamophobia.

Israelis are children of God; Palestinians are children of God.

Jews are children of Abraham; Muslims are children of Abraham.

Israelis have a right to a homeland and a state; Palestinians have a right to a homeland and a state.

Israeli civilians should not be targeted; Palestinian civilians should not be targeted.

Israeli children are precious; Palestinian children are precious.

Hamas should not hide in hospitals; Israel should not attack hospitals.

Israelis have a right to live in peace and freedom; Palestinians have a right to live in peace and freedom.

Hamas soldiers who attack Israeli civilians are terrorists; Israeli settlers who attack Palestinian civilians are terrorists.

Palestine cannot be “from the river to the sea”; Israel cannot be “from the river to the sea.”

Israelis need better leadership; Palestinians need better leadership.

Guns and bullets do not foster peace; food and water do not foster war.

Let the aid in; keep the weapons out.

Iran must stop arming Hamas and Hezbollah; the U.S. must stop arming Israel.

No more bombs; lots more bread.

War brings famine; peace brings prosperity.

Israel and Palestine must live together, or they will die together.
