Comprehensive Visakhapatnam (Vizag) Tour Guide

Comprehensive Visakhapatnam Tour Guide Feature Image

Visakhapatnam also know as Vizag always fascinates me by its dynamic offering, this place got almost everything, hills, caves, temples, sea beaches, and some finger-licking foods. Very few places in India could make someone experience sea and mountains on a single trip and Vizag is one of those rare places.

I have been to different places around Vizag at different times. First I heard about this place in my school life, we had an excursion there. Second during my Kolkata – Kanyakumari Ride, after that while returning back Kolkata from Bangalore last year (2017) and finally in 2019 during Durga Puja.

Although, I admit that I missed a couple of remarkable things there like Simhachalam Temple & Vizag – Araku train ride, but I am writing this to encourage everyone out there to have a visit at least once in a life.

Accommodation in Vizag

I would prefer to stay near/at RK Beach which ensures local sightseeing by walk and you can relax even on sea beaches. Balaji beach guest house and Beach lane holiday home will be my choice to stay in Vizag, first one is a budget accommodation @Rs. 1200/- approx and the second is more towards coziness & homely feeling @Rs. 2000/- (we had very good Bengali food here in 2016).

There are many budget hotels available near the railway station area but the beach will be a little far. Also, there are numerous holiday homes available from different banks or government offices.

Sightseeing

Visakhapatnam has numerous sightseeing spots and almost every place is either very scenic or informative. If you are planning to visit all the places minimum of three days will be needed to cover most of the places.

Kailashagiri

Probably, this one is the most famous point people consider visiting in Vizag. This park located at an elevated height of 173 meters, it also serves a magnificent view of Rishikonda Beach and part of Vizag city. The Shiva & Durga sculpture will definitely wonder everyone. For a 360 degree view, you can ride the toy train and ropeway at a very nominal cost. Even a few food stalls are available to have snacks or lunch.

  • Entry Fees: INR 5, Ropeway INR 90, and Toy train INR 150.
  • Timing: 6 AM to 7:30 PM.

Shiva & Durga, Kailashagiri, Vizag

Varaha Lakshmi Narasimha (Simhachalam) temple

Generally known as Simhachalam temple, is located 500 meters above the sea and approx. 20 Kilometers away from the main city. Don’t miss the bird’s eye view of the city from the top while visiting. Truly, despite my multiple visits to Vizag, I always missed this place due to some unavoidable reasons, but it will on top priority during my next visit.

As per local cab drivers, everyone needs to take a bus from downhill to reach the temple although not sure about reality.

  • Special Darshan INR 100.

Ramakrishna Beach

Also popular as RK Beach, is one of the happening, clean and beautiful beaches in India. This place becomes the main attraction of the city in the evening. All the tourists enjoy seating here & soaking good vibes. Whatever a tourist need, this place gets everything food joints, souvenir shops, attraction points, etc. Few major attractions of Vizag like INS Kurusura, Matsyadarshini, Vishaka Aircraft museum, and memorials are located here, within a kilometer or so.

Please keep in mind sea-bathing in RK Beach is prohibited by local authorities so please abide by the rules.

Beautifully decorated RK Beach

VUDA is something you will see at every corner of the city, it abbreviates as Visakhapatnam Urban Development Authority. This park, on the seashore, is a gift for all tourists and localities. Children can have their fun and others can see the sea waves, within 5-10 minutes’ walk, you can reach a lighthouse. Just climb it and amaze yourself, beware of local drinkers.

  • Entry Fees: INR 20 (9 AM to 2 PM) & INR 60 (2 PM to 8:30PM).
  • Timing: 9 AM to 8:30 PM.

Rishikonda Beach

This beach is for someone who loves sea bathing. There are stalls to have food, beverages, or even ornaments. Selfie lovers can click some cool pictures too. Within 10 Kilometers from RK. Beach, this beach feels good too in the evening, much less crowded, will make happy those who love to spend quality time. Even you can take shower for INR 5 after sea-bath.

Rishikonda Beach

INS Kurusura

If you want to watch real submarine and that too served nation for 31 years, also participated in India – Pakistan war (1971), visit this place. I believe our visit pays our gratitude towards Marine, especially this submarine. Separate tickets are available for entry, videography, etc. You will definitely leave this place with more knowledge.

  • Entry Fees: Adult INR 40 & Child INR 20.
  • Timing: Tuesday to Saturday 2 PM to 8:30 PM, Sunday 10 AM to 12:30 PM & 2 PM to 8:30 PM and Monday closed.
  • Still camera INR 50 & Video camera INR 200.

INS Kurusura, RK Beach, Visakhapatnam

Visakha Aircraft (TU 142) Museum

This museum is for Aircraft, the same as above, this is a must-visit point. An audio guide is available at the entrance and the whole museum is well marked to give knowledge of how aircraft ecosystem works. In addition to the knowledge, you can witness real TU 142 aircraft here.

Fish Harbour

I never visited this place, although some people said, it is a place for fish lovers. Fact is the majority of fish we see in any market, ships from Visakhapatnam, probably from this harbour.

Visakha Museum

This place showcases many Naval types of equipment for general knowledge, some kids may get inspired to join the Navy in the future.

  • Entry Fees: Adult INR 10 & Child INR 5.
  • Timing: Monday to Thursday 11 AM to 7 PM, Weekend 12 PM to 8 PM and Friday closed.

Visakha Naval Museum, Vizag

Yarada Beach

Yarada Beach is also a famous beach in Visakhapatnam, rather I should say this is the most beautiful beach there. Almost at a distance of 23 kilometers from the Vizag this place is one of the must-visit spot.

Yarada Beach View from far, Vizag

Dolphin Nose Light House

I personally missed this place numerous times but last year (2019) when I visited the place I understood the significance of this place in the Vizag tour. One the place where you can see the entire Vizag sea and the Bay of Bengal from an elevated platform. The seawater looks bluer and a lot beautiful.

  • Entry Fees: Adult INR 10 & Child INR 3, Still Camera INR 20 & Video Camera INR 25.
  • Timing: 3 pM to 5 PM.

Dolphin Nose Light House, Vizag

Tribe Museum, Araku Valley

Araku is approx. 120 kilometers from Vizag at an average elevation of 1000 meters and on the way you can see a lot of places like Galikonda View Point, Katiki falls, Borra caves. I visited Araku more than a decade ago, still, I can rejoice those memories. This place is not for visiting tourist attractions although we got a tribal museum there which demonstrates tribal life, rather relaxing.

  • Timing: 9 AM to 7 PM.

Tribe Museum Araku

I did not get a chance to visit Galikonda View Point & Katiki falls due to road construction but definitely will go on the next visit.

While Araku valley offers you relaxing weather, the other side Borra cave will feel you wonder.

One of the largest caves in India and deepest too. It is made of Karstic Limestone and located at an average elevation of 700 meters. You have to pay for entry tickets as well as photography devices. You can check biological and geological environment details here . Peoples say there are approx 440 steps, you need to climb down to explore the cave. The inside temperature of the cave is always less than outside. The formations look more attractive with the RGB lighting, fitted by APTDC.

Try to explore the cave completely and witness one of the millions of wonders of nature. For heart patients, think before you move down because you have to climb while returning and the last piece of advice would be to watch before the rush, most of the surface may feel slippery.

  • Entry Fees: Adult INR 60 & Child INR 45.
  • Timing: 10 AM to 5 PM.
  • Mobile camera INR 25, Still camera INR 100 & Video camera INR 100.

Borra Cave

Also, don’t forget to visit Ramanaidu Studio, Bheemli Beach. There are few more places I never been to but others recommend visiting like Simhachalam, Ketaki Falls, and Indira Gandhi National Zoological Park, etc.

  • Zoological Park Entry Fees: Adult INR 20 & Child INR 10. Tuesday to Sunday 9 AM to 5 PM and Monday closed.
  • Ramanaidu Studio Entry Fees: Adult INR 50 and Child INR 25. Camera INR 60.

Fooding Option

Although you will get all types of cuisine here. I would recommend trying South Indian food, those are cheap and tastes good too. Try filter coffee, Dosa, and Idli. If you don’t like these, move out a little bit you will find Puri-Sabji, Momos or bread toasts, etc. Those who love Bengali food may taste at Sonar Bangla and other restaurants. If you love Mughlai or tandoori dish, try Hotel Kamat.

If you are non-vegetarian and love chicken, don’t forget to order Bamboo Chicken before entering Borra cave, they will take 50% as advance and serve you once back. I am damn sure, everyone will love it.

Best time to visit Visakhapatnam

Vizag remains pleasant to moderate throughout the year. But I would always recommend visiting after the monsoon, these time greenery will be more and the waterfall will have plenty of flow too. Generally, you will feel the heat in the daytime and a pleasant cold at night. December-January will be very cold at Araku and inside borra cave especially but overall feel better.

Transportation for sightseeing

If you are in the budget, reserve an auto for day sightseeing else hotel guys can help to book a cab for you. For Araku sightseeing, you can take a train which routes many tunnels and jungle. Visit Borra Cave and board into the reserved car to Araku and return the next day by car (few people find it more convenient due to the onwards journey schedule from Vizag). Always research before you book transport and justify the rates.

Suggested Itineraries

  • Day 1: Reach Vizag, explore RK Beach, and visit Matsyadarshini, INS Kurusura, TU 142 Aircraft museum near the beach in the evening.
  • Day 2: Reserve your cab/auto for the day, places to cover Simhachalam Temple,  Indira Gandhi National Zoological Park, Kailasagiri, Rishikonda Beach, Visakha museum.
  • Day 3: Take train/cab to Araku, on the way Borra cave.
  • Day 4: Visit Tribal museum, Araku. Start towards Vizag on the way visit Kataki falls, Galikonda View Point. If you reach early you may plan for Dolphin nose, Harbour, Yarada beach, few more places.
  • Day 5: Leisure day.

You can modify according to your taste and requirement.

Known for its serene landscapes, and picturesque beaches, there are amazing places to visit in Vizag that add a great amount of significance to the city’s cultural heritage.

     Arrival at Vizag

Start off your journey to Vizag and arrive by afternoon. Check in to your hotel and have a delicious meal.

Hotel to stay

  • The Gateway Hotel Vizag – Situated in close proximity to the commercial district and tourist attractions, this hotel is the perfect choice for visiting all the places.

With a stunning view of RK Beach, this hotel in Visakhapatnam is a perfect seaside retreat to relax and unwind. We had a great stay at this hotel. The rooms are large and spacious with modern amenities. The bathroom is large and clean. The staff is courteous and very helpful. We booked a sea-facing room, which had a large window, facing the garden/swimming pool area and the sea. All the nearby attractions are at a walkable distance from this hotel. So it was a perfect place to stay if you are a tourist. There are 2/3 restaurants inside the hotel but I visited only one among them – Ming Garden. This restaurant offers Chinese cuisine and I have to say that I had the best Chinese food after a very long time. It was indeed a treat to my taste buds. If you are planning a visit to Vizag don’t forget to visit this place and enjoy your trip.

One could have seen a variety of reservoirs all their life, but this one located amidst the dewy mountains and misty meadows provides such a glorious view. The water flows around this region and it is like a bluish blanket on a green backdrop. The photographers hunt this place for some marvelous photographs and nature lovers visit this place to soak in the beauty of Mother Nature.

Third location – Kothapalli Water Falls

Kothapalli Waterfalls is located on the southeastern coast of India. Despite not getting the right infrastructure, this place has drawn the attention of visitors from all over Andhra Pradesh. If you are looking for a place where you can chill in the waters after enjoying the hyper-cool weather in Lambasingi, then you must be visiting Kothapalli Waterfalls.

With this the trip comes to an end!!

Some information to note :

  • You can change this itinerary to only 3 days too by visiting on the first day, araku on the second day and visiting either Vanjangi or Lambasingi on the last day as both of them are somewhat similar based on the view you get to witness.
  • If you want to witness both Lambasingi and Vanjangi only then plan a weekend getaway to these two places.
  • The itinerary I have written is a laid back peaceful one without hurrying and enjoying the view slowly covering all the main touristy places.
  • You can modify this plan according to the time you have and the preference of places you would like to visit.
  • Day 1:  Arrive at Vizag, Visit Kailasagiri, Rushikonda Beach, Tenneti Park, VMRDA INS Kursura Submarine Museum,  TU 142 Aircraft Museum, Victory At Sea War Memorial, RK Beach
  • Day 2:  Arrive to Araku, Visit Borra Caves, Galikonda, Tribal Museum
  • Day 3 : Visit Coffee Museum, Coffee Plantations, Chaparai Water Stream Arrive to Vanjangi
  • Day 4 : Vanjangi Trek Arrive to Lambasingi and Visit Strawberry Fields
  • Day 5 : Lambasingi Trek Visit Thajangi Reservoir, Kothapalli Water Falls

Overall, I loved visiting this place. I’d highly recommend this trip to everyone out there. Hope you found this guide helpful. Let me know about your experiences in the comment section below!

"A gem of South India"

Visakhapatnam tourism.

Visakhapatnam, also commonly known as Vizag, is one of the oldest port cities in the country. Situated in the heart of Andhra Pradesh, Vizag was announced as the state capital of Andhra Pradesh on January 31, 2023. The city is known for its picturesque beaches and serene landscape, as well as a rich cultural past. The port of Visakhapatnam is renowned for being home to the oldest shipyard in all of India.

Located a short distance away from Visakhapatnam is Araku Valley, one of the prime attractions of Vizag. Situated at a lofty 910 metres above sea level, Araku Valley is a hill station replete with gushing waterfalls, crystal clear streams, lush green gardens and some challenging trekking trails. Vizag is dotted with many beaches along its coastline, with the most famous one being the Yarada Beach. One of the most stunning places to see in all of Visakhapatnam, Yarada beach is surrounded by majestic hills on three sides, and by the Bay of Bengal on the other side. One of the best things about Vizag’s beaches is that they are a lot cleaner and a lot less crowded than other famous beaches along the Indian coastline, and Yarada beach is no exception. It is the perfect place to sit back on the golden sands and witness a marvellous sunrise or sunset.  If you’re a history lover, the Borra Caves are one of the best tourist attractions that Vizag has to offer for you. Nestled amidst the Ananthagiri Hills in Araku Valley, the Borra Caves are over thousands of years old and are the biggest among all the caves found in India. Made entirely of natural karstic limestone, the caves are kaleidoscopic in nature, and the light falling on the rocks coupled with the waterfalls creates an extremely colourful effect, lending an aura of magic and mysticism to the entire ambience. The Katiki Waterfalls, situated a short distance away from the Borra Caves, is a gushing waterfall that measures around 50 feet in height and is completely surrounded by the lush greenery of the valley. The crystal-clear water cascading down the rocks, bordered by the gleaming green foliage is a sight for sore eyes. Being a coastal area, the primary cuisine of Visakhapatnam includes seafood, as well as traditional Andhra South Indian cuisine.  While Visakhapatnam is not exactly renowned for being a shopping destination, you will still find a lot of things that you can take back home. You can purchase a wide variety of stuff starting from handicrafts to Kalamkari paintings to wooden toys to even gorgeous Pochampalli and Ikat sarees.

All you need to know to plan the perfect tour of Vizag

All you need to know to plan the perfect tour of Vizag

Most tourists come to Vizag only for a limited amount of time. Maybe 2 to 4 days or an entire week. But even that might not be enough to cover the beauty of this magnificent city completely. When you plan your trip to Vizag, you have some places in mind which you want to visit. Most of these places are popular tourist attractions. But when you arrive in the city, it can get difficult to check all the places. That’s why it is important to plan out your ideal Vizag tour.

The best thing about Vizag is that the city has relatively less traffic, which makes it easy for tourists to go from one place to another. If you’re lucky, and you arrive in Vizag when the weather is cloudy, your tour of Vizag becomes easier. If not, you can always escape to Araku Valley or visit some other places.

Floating Bridge Faces Technical Issues Again As Maintenance Continues

Here are some questions you can ask yourself and figure out the places you should visit on your Vizag tour:

#1 Beach person or Mountain person?

All you need to know to plan the perfect tour of Vizag

Most people have a clear preference in this regard and they accordingly choose the city they want to visit. But Vizag uniquely offers both avenues. If you’re a mountain person, there’s Araku Valley for you to explore. For beach lovers, there are plenty of beaches in Vizag, the popular ones being RK Beach and Rushikonda Beach.

And for the few outliers who like both beaches and mountains, there’s always Kailasagiri, from where tourists get an excellent view of the Vizag coast.

#2 Nature lover or History geek?

All you need to know to plan the perfect tour of Vizag

For nature lovers, Vizag can be a very delightful place. The city has a perfect blend of mountains and sea. Apart from that, there is also the Indira Gandhi Zoological Park where a wide range of animal and bird species are housed. Right beside it lies the Kambalakonda wildlife sanctuary which houses a beautiful lake, enveloped with thick forests. With a bit of travel, bird enthusiasts can visit Kondakarla Ava Bird Sanctuary.

But Vizag is richly dipped in history too. With the Eastern Naval Command (ENC), headquartered in the city, naturally, the city has a strong navy presence. This is showcased in the INS Kursura Submarine Museum – one of the highlight tourist attractions of Vizag – and the many lighthouses scattered over the city. Not so long ago, the TU-142 Aircraft Museum was also opened to the public. If you venture a little further, there are remnants of Dutch architecture at Bheemili and ancient Buddhist sites at Bojjannakonda and Thotlakonda.

#3 Shopping or food

vizag tour map

Vizag has its own flavour and yet, it has all the flavours too. From North-Indian to Continental to Chinese, you can find all cuisines of food here. Obviously, with Vizag being a coastal city, a lot of people here indulge in seafood. Biryani is loved more than anything else in this city. Though, the BBQ trend has captured the city’s restaurants of late.

But there are a few dishes that separate Vizag from everywhere else – Muri Mixture, Madugula Halwa, Punugulu, Tomato Bajji, Bamboo Chicken, etc.

Surely, if you’re coming to Vizag, you’d surely buy something as well. From Etikoppaka toys to Ponduru Khadi, you can take a piece of Vizag with you. You can also buy some souvenirs from one of the shops at RK Beach. If you happen to visit Araku Valley, you can buy some strawberries or chocolates. The tribal markets at Araku, or shandies as they are called, are also not to be missed. But you know what Araku is famous for? Coffee!

Either way, plan it right and your tour of Vizag can be the most memorable trip of your life.

Budget Hotels > Travel Blog > Destinations > Visakhapatnam > 20 Best Places to Visit in Visakhapatnam (Vizag) in 2024

Having spent almost two years in Visakhapatnam (also known as Vizag) gives me enough liberty to say that it is a beautiful coastal town yet to be fully explored. Making progress in both educational and tourism domains, the city has its own hidden gems and attractions that tourists are unaware of. Whether you are a travel photographer, looking for your next destination to click stunning pictures or just a fan of beaches and sunsets, Visakhapatnam should be next on your list, if you haven’t been there already. In this article, we will share a list of the best places to visit in Visakhapatnam in 2023 with location, images, entry fee & timing

Trust me on this one because I have had school picnics at most of the places listed in the article. They are worth everyone’s time and attention. Moreover, all the beauty and tranquillity tourist places in Visakhapatnam are complemented by less touristy hassle and crowd, so that’s a win-win, right?

Ready to know about the best Vizag tourist places? Let’s begin!

Best Places to Visit in Visakhapatnam in 2024:

1. yarada beach.

Yarada Beach, Visakhapatnam

Yarada Beach | #1 of 20 Best Places to visit in Visakhapatnam.

A coastal town without a beach is almost like breathing without air, it is impossible. Yarada Beach is one of the most scenic beaches in Visakhapatnam. Surrounded by hills on three sides, it is lined by the Bay of Bengal n the fourth, completing this picturesque scene you see here. Unlike other beaches of Vizag, this one is comparatively calmer and peaceful.

If you can visit the beach at the time of sunset and sunrise, you might be lucky to find it without people. Now that would give you the perfect frame, setting and view for those Instagram-worthy clicks, won’t it? You are sure to have a memorable time at this beach with its golden sands and crystal-clear water.

Photographer or not, you can always visit the beach with friends and family. We recommend you trek to the beach because that itself is another experience altogether.

2. Dolphin Hill or Nose a good Place to Visit in Visakhapatnam

Dolphin Hill or Nose, Visakhapatnam

Dolphin Hill or Nose | #2 of 20 Best Places to visit in Vizag.

Located just 4.5 km from Yarada Beach, Dolphin Hill deserves a special mention because of the viewpoints it has. With meandering roads leading to the top of the hill, you should walk to the various viewpoints and get some photos clicked. It will be worth all the exhaustion you may feel after the long walk up the steep roads.

However, the only catch to visit Dolphin Hill is it is inside the premises of Indian Navy and is heavily barricaded. But, thanks to its popularity among tourists, the navy does allow civilians access to this scenic spot. So, if you can plan a trip, this tourist place in Visakhapatnam is totally worth a visit.

Rushikonda Beach is one of the most scenic and popular beaches in Visakhapatnam, contributing in the city getting nicknamed, ‘Jewel of the East Coast’. When it comes to sightseeing in Vizag, you cannot leave out this place.

When you set out to explore this seashore, you will be mesmerised by its emerald green water and clear sandy shore. 4. Rama Krishna Mission Beach

Rama Krishna Mission Beach, Visakhapatnam

Rama Krishna Mission Beach | #4 of 20 Best Places to visit in Vizag.

Located just 4 km from Visakhapatnam Railway Station, Rama Krishna Mission beach or RK beach is renowned for being the longest in Visakhapatnam. This beach should be in the top 5 on your list of places to visit in Visakhapatnam.

While the beach is not optimum for swimming, you can always spend some leisure time sunbathing, playing volleyball with friends or water surfing. The latter is advisable to be done under the extreme supervision of the authorities. The beach is also the place for Visakha Utsav, an annual festival organised by the state’s cultural department. Moreover, Andhra University has been regularly conducting research to save the sea turtles during their breeding season that you can also see.

Besides the beach itself, you can also visit the various museums, temples, aquarium, and of course the Sri Ramakrishna Mission Ashram, located opposite to it. So, on your next visit to the RK beach, do not forget to explore it in a better light and also soak in a stunning sunset in the evening.

One of the best places to visit in Visakhapatnam, the submarine museum is located on Ramakrishna Beach. A must-visit attraction, the museum merits a visit if you are keen to learn more about the Indian Navy.

INS Kursura was a Russian-built submarine, decommissioned in 2001 and converted into a museum in 2002. It takes you on a tour of how the submarines work and what happens during wartime, with special emphasis on the life of submariners, who take on the daunting task of being inside during a war. With the help of photographs, artefacts and written scripts, you can easily gain an insight into the inner workings of a submarine.

All the places till now were either in Visakhapatnam or close to it. Now, we will be walking you through some tourist attractions that are a little further away from the main city yet totally worth it.

If you are looking for places to visit in Visakhapatnam in 2 days, then you should consider Simhachalam Temple, Borra Caves, Katiki Falls and Araku Valley as each of these demands couple of hours. And that won’t happen in one day. Also, one day of Vizag tour will definitely leave you yearning for more amazing locales and vistas, and these places are here to quench your wanderlust.

8. Simhachalam Temple

Simhachalam Temple, Visakhapatnam

Simhachalam Temple | #8 of 20 Best Places to visit in Vizag.

An 11 th -century Hindu temple, it is dedicated to the Varaha and Narasimha avatars of Lord Vishnu, and Goddess Lakshmi. The architecture of the temple is majorly Dravidian with several influences of the Kalinga style. From the carvings on the inner wall to the shrines of Lord Vishnu, everything at the shrine catches one’s fancy. As is the tradition in South India, you will find that the shrine is always covered in sandal paste. You must spend some time exploring the temple and try reading the inscriptions dating back to AD 1087 (if you can).

9. Borra Caves

Borra Caves, Visakhapatnam

Borra Caves | #9 of 20 Best Places to visit in Visakhapatnam.

Just 90 km from the city, these natural caves are 705 metres above sea level. Once inside the caves, you can hear your voice echo. Moreover, right in the middle of the caves lie a small shivling. Climb on a steep stair and you will find the shrine in the centre. Many devotees come to Borra Caves just to get a glimpse of the shivling. Once you have paid your respects to Lord Shiva, come out of the caves and soak in the stunning rock formation and waterfalls here. Plus, there are lots of natural formations here that are a result of constant erosion and the rocks being carved and shaped by the river. The multi-coloured lights installed here recently make these even better and intriguing to look at.

10. Katiki Falls

Katiki Falls, Visakhapatnam

Katiki Falls | #10 of 20 Best Places to visit in Vizag.

Katiki Waterfalls is another natural marvel near Visakhapatnam that deserves at least one visit. The main source of water to this fall is the Gosthani River. The sight of the water falling from an almost-vertical cliff surrounded by nothing but immense greenery and serenity is something you will never forget. Perched at an elevation of 50 feet, the cascading waters from the falls make for an excellent spot to click some amazing shots. If the lush greenery is not enough for you, trek to the falls to soak in the beauty of this place to the fullest.

11. Araku Valley

Araku Valley, Visakhapatnam

Araku Valley | #11 of 20 Best Places to visit in Vizag.

Its beauty is often compared to that of Ooty and the reasons are justified. Starting from the lush greenery that covers every inch of the valley to the coffee plantations, viewpoints and tribal culture, everything here will enchant you to the core. Believe us!

If all this stirs up the wanderlust in you, we suggest you spend at least a couple of days in the valley itself. Soak in the view of the green patches of grasslands, and you will know what we are talking about. You can stop at places that give you the best view because when it comes to exploring Araku Valley, the journey is more important than the destination.

Take everything at a slow pace and immerse yourself in the beauty of this place because the smell of freshly roasted coffee and the voice of the gurgling streams will linger long after you have left. Having been there myself, I still yearn to return to this magical hill station tucked away from mainstream tourists. Maybe that is where the beauty of Araku Valley lies…in it being hidden and untouched.

12. VUDA Park

VUDA Park, Visakhapatnam

VUDA Park | #12 of 20 Best Places to visit in Visakhapatnam.

Visakhapatnam Urban Development Authority (VUDA) Park, also known as Taraka Rama Park, is one of the top places to visit in Vizag . Spread over an area of 55 acres, this beautiful recreation centre is perfect for spending some leisure time with the family. Lush green trees (around 2500), beautiful lawns and colourful flowers add a distinctive charm to the space and attract nature lovers in huge numbers. The park is only a couple of kilometres away from Ramakrishna Beach, so you can visit both these places on the same day.

Besides spending some peaceful time in the park, you can enjoy swimming, boating, horse and camel rides and other activities here. And that’s not all, VUDA Park also has a roller-skating rink, children’s park, artificial caves and many more amazing spots. However, the main attraction of the park is the musical fountain, which also happens to be the tallest of its kind in the country. From enjoying different activities to relishing a late evening snack, the park has plenty of options for people of all ages.

13. Victory at Sea War Memorial

War Memorial, Visakhapatnam

War Memorial | #13 of 20 Best Places to visit in Vizag.

Located on Beach Road, Victory at Sea War Memorial was constructed to honour the 1971 Indo-Pak War heroes of the Indian Navy and the Eastern Naval Command. During the war, Pakistan was aiming to destroy an Indian aircraft carrier – INS Vikrant, at Visakhapatnam Port. However, the Indian Navy fought valiantly and succeeded in sinking a Pakistani submarine called PNS Ghazi at the coast of Visakhapatnam and emerged victorious. The memorial was hence built in 1996 in memory of the first battle victory in the 1971 War.

The main monument is surrounded by many missiles, tankers, fighter plane models and other war weapons used by the Navy. When you visit the memorial, you are sure to feel a sense of patriotism and respect for the martyrs who fought bravely for the country. After paying homage to the brave sailors, you can also take a leisure walk on the beach and enjoy mesmerising views of the sea.

14. Kambalakonda Wildlife Sanctuary

Kambalakonda, Visakhapatnam

Kambalakonda Wildlife Sanctuary | #14 of 20 Best Places to visit in Vizag.

Boasting an area of 17000 acres, Kambalakonda Wildlife Sanctuary is a massive forest reserve located 26 km away from Visakhapatnam. The sanctuary, which is named after a local hill – Kambalakonda, is covered in lush green foliage and is a wonderful place if you are looking to spend time in the lap of nature. It is more like the green lungs of the city and a popular getaway from the hustle-bustle.

This wildlife sanctuary is home to many rare birds, animals, reptiles and butterflies, including leopard, pangolin, Indian muntjac, wild boar, sambar deer, Bengal monitor, Russell’s viper, laughing dove, red-whiskered bulbul and Indian sunbeam butterfly. It is also dotted with amazing plants and trees native to the Eastern Ghats, such as Sage, Indian Rosewood, Indigo, Indian Figs and Jungle Berry, to name a few.

Thanks to the rugged mountainous terrain, this wildlife sanctuary is ideal for trekking and hiking. Sky walking, goat walking, tyre walking, ziplining and Burma Bridge are some of the other things to do in Vizag  when you visit this sanctuary. If you visit at the time of sunset, you can enjoy some stunning views of the setting sun from the reservoir area.

15. Bojjannakonda

Bojjannakonda, Visakhapatnam

Bojjannakonda | #15 of 20 Best Places to visit in Visakhapatnam.

Bojjannakonda, originally known as Buddina Konda, is a series of Buddhist rock-cut caves dating to a time between 4 th Century AD and 9 th Century AD. This was a time when Buddhism was a major religion in this part of the country. It is situated in a village called Sankaram, which is 21 km from Visakhapatnam.

This small group of six rock-cut caves, with beautifully carved statues of Lord Gautam Buddha, monasteries, and monolithic stupas, is one of the most famous Buddhist establishments in Andhra Pradesh. Each cave also has engraved pillars depicting the principles of Buddhism. A life-size figure of Lord Gautam Buddha in meditation pose, 2000-year old prayer halls, and the monasteries here are testimony to the fact that these caves were used by Buddhist monks for prayers and meditation. The site also has a Maha Stupa with a dome made of bricks.

Fringed by paddy fields, Bojjannakonda is quite popular among devotees, peace-seekers, and tourists. Besides exploring the caves and learning about the religious history of the region, you can also meditate in the tranquil surroundings here. The area is now maintained by the Archaeological Survey of India.

16. Ross Hill Church

Ross Hill Church, Visakhapatnam

Ross Hill Church | #16 of 20 Best Places to visit in Vizag.

Known for its stunning location and impressive architecture, Ross Hill Church is one of the most religiously significant and beautiful places to visit in Vizag . Vizag is surrounded by three hills and Ross Hill Church stands atop the central one. And once you reach the hilltop, you can enjoy fabulous views of the entire city, including the port, shipyard and beaches in Vizag – something you can’t afford to miss during your trip here.

Ross Hill Church is frequented by worshippers who come here to participate in mass prayers and services that are held regularly. The place is a delight for tourists as well, especially nature lovers, photographers and peace seekers. Visit the church in the early morning or at the time of sunset to soak in the beauty of a vibrant sky and capture the best views on your camera.

17. Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy Central Park
