Best day trips from Torremolinos

My Little World of Travelling Favourite Day Trips from Torremolinos

♥ Best day trips for sightseeing and cultural activities: Malaga and Granada.

♥ Best day trip for adventure: Caminito del Rey.

♥ Best day trips for visiting the Andalusian whitewashed towns: Mijas Pueblo, Ronda and Jerez.

♥ Best day trips for shopping: Gibraltar and Marbella

Narrow street view with the bell tower of Malaga Cathedral rising in the background against a clear blue sky. Foreground shows the charming facades of buildings with wrought-iron balconies, some with hanging laundry.

🚗 Distance by car: 24 minutes (15.6 km | 9.7 mi)

Malaga is one of the easiest day trips from Torremolinos. You can drive, take the RENFE Cercanías Train or bus.

I’ve travelled between Malaga and Torremolinos often because they’re so close.

Being a Malagueña, I can assure you that one day in Malaga is perfect because there are many fantastic things to do, but it’s also possible to visit the main attractions.

What shouldn’t you miss on a day trip to Malaga?

My favourite place is the Alcazaba Palace . Visiting it feels like going back to the Moorish time in Malaga.

If you’re interested in history, take a guided tour, but if you aren’t, it’s still worth seeing its gorgeous architecture, gardens and panoramic views.

Other places worth seeing are Picasso Museum Malaga , Malaga Cathedral (and don’t forget to visit its gardens) and Muelle Uno.

However, you can also do other fun activities such as going on a tapas and wine tour , riding a bike along the city and taking a sunset cruise .

2. Marbella

A woman in a light blue dress a walks down a quaint cobblestone street lined with white-walled shops and pink bougainvillea cascading from an upper balcony in Marbella Old Town

🚗 Distance by car: 40 minutes (47.1 km | 29.3 mi)

Marbella is home to me, so, of course, I’m going to recommend going on a day trip there. After all, it’s my favourite destination in Costa del Sol. Plus, it’s another easy day trip from Torremolinos by car.

You’ve probably heard of its luxury boutique shops and port, but it has so much more to discover.

Start your day by heading to Casco histórico de Marbella (Marbella Old Town). No matter how much time I spend there, I never get bored of walking its charming cobblestone streets, and I’m sure you won’t either.

See the pretty tiled benches at La Alameda Park after exploring the old town and enjoying a drink at Plaza de los Naranjos.

Then, stroll along the beach promenade or take the bus to Puerto Banus to experience the lavish lifestyle.

End your day by taking a cruise or simply watching the sunset at Embarcadero.

📌 If you don’t drive, check out this day trip from Torremolinos to Marbella in which you’ll also stop at the picturesque village of Mijas

A multi-tiered stone fountain with water cascading down its levels, with a pigeon perched on the edge, set against a backdrop of a charming square in Ronda, Spain.

🚗 Distance by car: 1 hour and 20 minutes (105 km | 65.2 mi)

Ronda is the perfect day trip for history and food.

You can drive to Ronda, which is the quickest way to get there but be aware of the windy roads, or book a guided tour ( I recommend this one ).

Wondering what to do in Ronda ? Well, there are plenty of activities to keep you entertained.

One of the main highlights of Ronda is Puente Nuevo, Ronda’s bridge that divides the new town from the old town. It’s quite impressive to see.

I recommend spending most of your day in the old town, where you’ll find most museums, historic houses and monuments.

Palacio de Mondragón and Casa Museo Don Bosco are my favourites among all the museums. In these two museums, you can learn about the town, enjoy stunning mountainside views and see antiques or archaeological remains.

In addition to sightseeing, you can’t leave Ronda without eating tapas. It’s challenging to pick a tapa bar because there are so many! But El Lechuguita is my go-to. I highly recommend it if you’re looking for a traditional and authentic tapa bar.

4. Gibraltar

A panoramic view from Gibraltar cable car.

🚗 Distance by car: 1 hour and 30 minutes (123 km | 76.4 mi)

Gibraltar is one of the most popular day trips from Torremolinos. The easiest ways to get to Gibraltar are by car or guided tour .

Is Gibraltar worth visiting? It’s a yes from me. Plus it’s possible to explore in a day.

Gibraltar’s main attractions are Top of the Rock and Upper Nature Reserve. In the latter, you’ll find caves, glass-floor paths, a suspension bridge and breathtaking views of the African coastline.

And I can’t forget to mention the famous macaques. They are friendly but can be cheeky at the same time, so don’t let your guard down or feed them.

Other activities to do in Gibraltar are shopping on Main Street, exploring Catalan Bay and dolphin watching.

Regardless of how you travel to Gibraltar, take your passport with you as you’ll need to pass the passport control.

📌 Looking for a highly-rated guided tour to Gibraltar from Torremolinos? Have a look at this tour .

The iconic Court of the Lions in the Alhambra, with its famous white marble fountain supported by statues of twelve lions, set within a courtyard framed by ornate Moorish arches and intricate Islamic artistry.

🚗 Distance by car: 1 hour and 30 minutes (139 km | 86.4 mi)

Granada is one of the most enchanting cities in Southern Spain.

Although it deserves more than a day, you can visit its main attractions (The Alhambra Palace and Generalife Gardens) on a day trip from Torremolinos.

Personally, the Alhambra is the best historical building in Spain. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is home to palaces and fortresses with meticulously decorated walls and other elements.

You’ll find anything from Moorish architectural arches to marble fountains and archaeological remains. Schedule 3 to 4 hours to visit all its buildings and gardens.

If you have time, I also suggest exploring the Albaicin neighbourhood. I absolutely love its streets lined up with shops selling rugs, Arab-style lamps and other interesting souvenirs.

Drive to Granada, take a bus from Malaga bus station or simply book an excursion with Get Your Guide if you don’t want the hassle of planning everything ahead.

A courtyard called Patio de los gatos in the famous Palacio de Viana in Cordoba, Spain.

🚗 Distance by car: 1 hour and 50 minutes (170 km | 105.6 mi)

Another city that you might want to consider visiting during your time in Torremolinos is Cordoba.

You have a few options: driving, taking a 50-minute train from Malaga or booking a guided tour .

I’ve done the Malaga to Cordoba day trip by taking the train a few times.

I feel like I could’ve spent longer there, but it was enough to see the Mezquita (Cordoba Mosque-Cathedral) and explore the Jewish Quarter.

If you have time, it’s worth adding Palacio de Viana to see the traditional Andalusian courtyards (patios) decorated with flowers.

📌 Book your full-day Cordoba tour from Torremolinos here

7. Mijas Pueblo

A woman in a mustard-yellow dress and matching headband leans on a white balustrade, gazing out over a scenic vista from a balcony. Vibrant traditional ceramic ware decorates the wall beside her, adding colorful contrast to the rustic terracotta roof tiles and the distant rolling hills fading into the horizon.

🚗 Distance by car: 25 minutes (18.7 km | 11.6 mi)

If you’re up for experiencing the authentic Andalusian villages, you can do so by going on a day trip to Mijas Pueblo from Torremolinos.

The easiest way to get to Mijas is by car, but you can also take the Cercanías train from Torremolinos to Fuengirola and then the bus from Fuengirola to Mijas Pueblo.

Every corner of this whitewashed village is picturesque. You’ll find streets lined up with shops selling Andalusian ceramics and tiles, flower pots hanging from the walls and windows, and bars.

I love Mijas Pueblo, but it has become popular and can get crowded, especially during the peak season.

If you go to Mijas with kids, I highly recommend visiting the Mayan Monkey Mijas chocolate factory. It’s a lot of fun! You can read about my experience here .

8. Caminito del Rey

A photo of Caminito del Rey hike in Alora, Malaga, Spain.

🚗 Distance by car: 1 hour (64.8 km | 40.3 mi)

Caminito del Rey is the best day trip for nature lovers. This hiking trail is one of a kind, and if you aren’t scared of heights, you will love it.

It’s an easy hike, which I recommend doing with a guide to learn more about this place, why it’s called the Little Kings Pathway and its natural surroundings.

Tickets to Caminito del Rey quickly sell out, so it’s important you book your tickets as soon as possible. Alternatively, you can also check out this guided tour to Caminito del Rey and see if there’s availability.

9. Nerja and Frigiliana

A woman in a blue light dress walking up the stairs in Calle Gabriel, one of the most picturesque streets in Frigiliana, Spain.

🚗 Distance by car: 55 minutes (75.1 km | 46.7 mi)

Do you want to explore two towns in a day? Visit Nerja and Frigiliana on a day trip from Torremolinos.

Start your day in Frigiliana . The town has two areas, but only the historic town is worth visiting. Wander the hilly streets home to small independent shops, take photos and have food on an outdoor terrace.

Then, head to Nerja. Explore its old town and end the day watching the sunset from one of the most special viewpoints in Costa del Sol, Balcón de Europa.

10. Seville

Cristina wearing a summer red dress and looking at the beautiful Plaza de España, Seville.

🚗 Distance by car: 2 hours and 20 minutes (218 km | 135.4 mi)

Can you go on a day trip from Torremolinos to Seville? Yes.

Would I recommend doing it? Only if you don’t have much time to explore Southern Spain and don’t plan to come back sometime soon. Otherwise, I’d say to skip it.

Seville is the capital of Andalusia and one of the largest cities, so one day isn’t enough to explore everything the city offers.

But if you have less than 24 hours in Seville, you shouldn’t miss Plaza de España (the most beautiful square in Spain), Seville Cathedral and the Alcazar Palace .

Since you’ll be visiting for such a short period, booking a private or group tour with transport is a good idea.

11. Tangier

A historic lighthouse with a distinctive red and white striped dome stands sentinel among palm trees, overlooking the sea.

🚗 Distance by car: 3 hours and 30 minutes

Is a day trip from Torremolinos to Tangier worth doing?  Well, it’s going to be a long day out, but Tangier is a great introduction to Morocco, especially if this is your first time on the African continent.

It’s possible to see Tangier’s main attractions in a day. One of the main attractions you shouldn’t miss is Tangier Medina. Wander the narrow streets, take photos and experience the vibrant atmosphere.

Also, don’t forget to try the local cuisine. Order a delicious tagine and finish your meal with a Moroccan mint tea.

You can do this trip on your own, but I advise doing this excursion with a group as travelling on your own can be a bit overwhelming.

You won’t also need to worry about the transport logistics, how to get around Tangier, where to eat, etc. Plus, if you like learning about the history and culture, you’ll do it by listening to the local guide.

📌 Check out this Tangier full-day tour from Torremolinos by ferry

A white painted street in Jerez de la Frontera, Cadiz, Southern Spain.

🚗 Distance by car: 2 hours and 20 minutes (215 km | 133.6 mi)

Do you love wine and flamenco? Jerez de la Frontera is your best choice.

This town in the province of Cadiz has many interesting things to see. You can definitely explore it at your own pace, but taking a free tour will give you more insights into this charming destination.

Regardless of how you choose to discover Jerez, don’t miss the Alcazar. It’s one of the most emblematic buildings.

And no visit to Jerez is complete without going to a winery like Tio Pepe , the most famous in Southern Spain. You can try the delicious fino (a dry white wine) and other local wines there.

13. Antequera

A panoramic town view of Antequera on a sunny day in Southern Spain.

🚗 Distance by car: 50 minutes (63.4 km | 39.4 mi)

If you fancy visiting more of an off-the-beaten-track town, consider a day trip to Antequera from Torremolinos.

This town, nestled in the mountains, has emblematic sites showcasing the history and archaeology of the area.

One of the attractions you can’t miss is the Alcazaba, one of the best fortresses in the Malaga province.

Next to the Alcazaba, there is a stunning viewpoint that overlooks El Peñón de Los Enamorados mountain.

Another great activity I recommend in Antequera is visiting Los Dólmenes de Antequera (Antequera Dolmens Site), consisting of three cultural monuments.

Every time I visit Antequera, I can’t resist having a mollete, a bun typical of the town. You can have it with Serrano ham and tomato, different types of cold meat or butter and jam.

Five star

Excellent service, prompt and informative. Thank you.

Although we had some trouble finding the right bus stop in Málaga, as the landmark bank had moved across the street, the bus itself was on time and our ride to Gibraltar comfortable. At the destination, we stopped in an easy location offering maps of the city and had plenty of time to discover the city by foot. Overall a pleasant experience.

The trip was good. Had great time.

This was a very good informative trip. My friend and I actually missed the trip , however the company let us go on a different day with no extra charge. Very good customer service . Juan the driver was exceptionally safe. Endreka our guide spoke very good English and was very knowledgeable with humour too. Yes this was excellent trip

Seville Day Trip Itinerary

At the indicated time, we'll in front of Hotel Natali in Torremolinos, where set off in the direction of the Andalusian capital, located approximately two and a half hours away from Torremolinos . Throughout the journey, you'll learn all about the Islamic, Jewish and Christian heritage that has made Seville one of the most visited cities in Spain .

Your tour of  Seville  will begin visiting  Paseo de Colón , one of the city's main avenues, the  Plaza de América and the urban green space of  María Luisa Park . Here you'll find the iconic Plaza de España , one of the symbols of the city and the filming location of a number of Hollywood films... do you recognise it? As you explore these landmarks, you'll see elegant horse-drawn carriages and experience the warmth of the locals.

After admiring the famous mosaics representing the different Spanish provinces, your guided tour will continue to the Jardines de Murillo  park, entering the  historic district of Santa Cruz , the former Jewish quarter of the Medieval city, an area alive with the charming atmosphere of Andalusia.

Strolling through Santa Cruz, you'll reach  Seville Cathedral , one of the largest cathedrals in the world. You'll have free time around the church to explore more at your own pace and indulge in the local cuisine before meeting back up at the  Torre del Oro , a historic watchtower on the banks of the Guadalquivir River.

Day Trip From Torremolinos To Ronda: Tickets & Tips [2024]

Table of Contents

Are you planning to book a day trip from Torremolinos to Ronda?

In that case, you’re at the right place!

I live close to Torremolinos myself and have also visited Ronda , so in this article, I will share lots of practical local insights and tips that will save you a lot of hassle and research time.

If you prefer to book right away, I have included a link to a recommended local tour company that runs this very affordable trip option below.

BOOK ONLINE: Day Trip from Torremolinos to Ronda (+ Visit of Setenil de las Bodegas)

Your Options For a Day Trip From Torremolinos To Ronda

There are four options you can explore for this day trip – in the paragraphs below I will offer detailed insights for each of them.

Option 1: Day Trip From Torremolinos To Ronda with Local Travel Company

This is a very affordable way to see Ronda on a day trip, without having to drive a car and navigate through the local traffic.

The company offers two convenient pick-up locations in the centre of Torremolinos, and you can upgrade the trip by adding a walking tour guide through Ronda.

As a bonus point, you get to see two beautiful places in just one trip – Ronda, and then Setenil de las Bodegas, which is a unique Andalusian white town where homes have been carved into a massive rock formation. It’s certainly a place you won’t forget – you can check my photos from there below and more here .

Best of all – there is no obligation or risk involved, you can book now and pay later, and you have the option to cancel up to 24 hours before the trip. Check the available dates from the calendar in the link below.

ronda, andalusia

Option 2: Day Trip From Torremolinos To Ronda with Rental Car

If you already have a car that you rented for your trip to Torremolinos, driving to Ronda might be the most convenient option for you.

I have outlined the journey details on the map below. The distance between the two destinations is just over 100 km, and it should take you about 1.5 hours to drive. Please note that parts of the road may lead through serpentine mountain roads, so if you struggle with travel sickness it would be a good idea to take some medicine with you or take regular breaks where possible.

Some of the roads on your way to Ronda may be toll roads, the google map planner would normally indicate that. Have some spare cash in the car in case you happen to arrive at a toll booth.

There are two ways you can reach Ronda – route 1 is driving down south towards Marbella and then north towards Ronda – this road is very curvy and goes right through the mountains. While the views are pretty, you might struggle with travel sickness. The other option is driving towards Malaga and north from there – I’m not familiar with this route but from the map it looks like a better option than the first one.

Once you’re in Ronda, you can explore on your own, or alternatively, you can book an independent tour guide for the day in advance online here .

Option 3: Day Trip From Torremolinos To Ronda with Public Transport

Torremolinos is well connected to Malaga with buses and regular trains (cercanias – every 20 minutes), unfortunately, the direct connections to Ronda are pretty non-existent. To get to Ronda using a public bus, your best chance is to get to Malaga and take a connection from there.

If you want to get from Malaga to Ronda , there are direct buses from the main station in Malaga, with tickets starting at 13 euros per person and 3 connections per day. The journey takes between 2hrs 40 mins up to 3 hours, depending on the connection.

The other option is the train, which has even more limited connections. There is only one train connection leaving Malaga Maria Zambrano at 9.10 am with tickets starting at 11.90 euros one way. The journey takes nearly 2 hours.

As you can see from the options, it’s pretty much impossible to do this as a day trip using public transport.

Puento Romano in Ronda

Option 4: Day Trip From Torremolinos To Ronda by Taxi

If you prefer convenient transport options and don’t mind the price tag, you can also book a taxi to take you to Ronda and back.

One way journey according to online quotes would cost between 110 eur and 150 eur, depending on a number of people travelling, the type of car and the time of your trip.

Book Online: Day Trip From Torremolinos To Ronda

If you decided to book this day trip using the local travel company, I believe it’s the best value for money and an option with the least hassle. Below are some of the benefits of this particular day trip.

Here are just some of the advantages of using this option:

  • FREE Cancellation up to 24 hours before departure for a full refund
  • Two pick up options for Torremolinos
  • SEE two places in one day trip (Ronda and Setenil )
  • 2 Departures per week – book ahead to avoid missing out on your spot
  • PAY LATER – reserve your spot now and pay later
  • Duration 8 – 10 hours which is perfect for a day trip
  • English-speaking tour guide
  • Travel with an air-conditioned modern bus
  • Check reviews for this trip from other travellers before booking
  • Option to book an extra walking guided tour of Ronda

How to Book Your Day Trip From Torremolinos To Ronda Online

  • Head over to the day trip info page  here , and select your dates from the calendar.
  • Add the number of tickets you want for this day trip
  • Once you have the date selected, you will be shown a number of options with different departure locations, make sure you select the one which says Torremolinos
  • There are two options for a trip from Torremolinos, select the one that’s closest to you
  • In the selected option you will also see the start time for the trip and also exact pick-up location
  • Click book now which will navigate you to a payment page
  • Once you complete the transaction, you will get a confirmation email which lists all the details you need to know for your trip

Good To Know Before Booking Your Day Trip

  • Comfortable shoes are a must when visiting Ronda
  • The road to Ronda may lead through serpentine roads in the mountains, so if you struggle with travel sickness I would recommend taking some travel medicine with you
  • Take water with you, especially if you’re travelling in the summer
  • Ronda is located 740 meters (2500 feet) above sea level, so it is much cooler than the coast, especially in fall and winter. In the summer, on the other hand, it will be very hot!
  • I would not recommend this trip for very young kids, as they might struggle with the bus journey
