VOTED BEST PRIVATE ISLAND

20 YEARS IN A ROW *

beautiful blue skies and water in nassau bahamas

  • Ports of Call

You know the name, the laid-back attitude and where to find them, but you’ll just have to visit The Bahamas to truly appreciate this classic cruise destination. On this 700-strong string of sun-splashed islands dotting the blue Atlantic, the living’s easy. (And it’s not bad on a Bahamas cruise either!) The central port of Nassau is the bustling capital of the country — “bustling” is a relative term, of course — while Freeport is all chill, all the time. And then there’s Half Moon Cay and Princess Cays: pure private-destination paradise, the likes of which could put a smile on the face of someone who really loves frowning. Enjoy sailing, snorkeling, strolling pearly pink-sand beaches, and swimming through crystalline turquoise seas on a Bahamas cruise.

  • Swim and splash in sparkling waters.
  • Taste the private destination life on Half Moon Cay and Princess Cays.
  • Explore the expansive Atlantis resort.

Find the best cruise to Bahamas

How much does a cruise to bahamas cost.

Bahamasn cruise prices vary depending on the departure port, cruise travel length, cruise line, and time of year. Expedia offers a variety of last-minute discount cruises and excellent Bahamas cruise 2025 deals if you want to plan your cruise vacation early.

Why should I go on a cruise to Bahamas?

A Bahamasn cruise vacation is a fantastic way to explore new countries and immerse yourself in local cultures. The continent has diverse climates and landscapes, as well as rich cultural and food scenes in each country. Visitors can roam beautiful beaches, trek through jungles, hike the Andes Mountains, or immerse themselves in the vibrant nightlife and learn local dances.

How can I find a cheap Bahamasn cruise?

To find cheap cruises to Bahamas, just sort your results by price from lowest to highest. The search results will automatically be organized to show you the best discount cruises first. Cheap cruises may be shorter in length, but you will still get to experience the richness of Bahamasn culture and have an incredible cruise vacation.

Where can I find the best Bahamasn cruise deals?

The price of cruise tickets to Bahamas varies, but you can find fantastic Bahamasn cruise deals on Expedia that are tailored to your travel wants and needs. Cruise season in Bahamas typically runs from November to early May, so the cruise to Bahamas price may be higher during this time. The destination points and lengths of cruises may also vary during this time. To get the best cheap cruise deals, consider booking your cruise trip between mid-May and the end of October as it's off-season.

What to look out for when you book your Bahamasn cruise?

It’s important to know where you’d like to go on your cruise trip as itineraries vary. Bahamasn cruise destinations include – but are not limited to – Argentina , Brazil , Chile , Peru , and Uruguay . The location of the cruise terminal will also be important as travel to and from the terminal is not included in the total price of your cruise booking. Since Bahamas is such a large continent, some cruise itineraries will have you start and end your cruise trip in different countries. This means you may need to fly from an airport that’s different from the one you flew into.

How to book a cruise to Bahamas on Expedia?

Expedia makes the entire booking process as seamless as possible. That way you can focus on the important stuff, like getting excited about your upcoming cruise trip. Once you are on the ‘Cruises’ page, you can select the ‘Bahamas’ option in the search bar and browse by date, duration, price, cruise terminal, cabin experience, and cruise line. While there are many excellent cruise line options, the best cruise lines in Bahamas include Norwegian Star , Costa Favolosa , and MSC Cruises . Once you’ve selected your desired cruise, you can book your dream cruise vacation and get ready for the experience of a lifetime.

How can I find last-minute cruise deals to Bahamas?

You can book a last-minute cruise to Bahamas on Expedia by inputting your travel dates and sorting the results by price. All valid deals will automatically be applied to the visible cost so you can be confident you are getting the best cruise deals. Last-minute cruise deals may vary by season but can offer an exciting opportunity to explore new destinations at a discount.

Do you need a passport to cruise to Bahamas?

Yes, passports are required for cruises that go to Bahamas. While departure ports and cruise destinations vary, US citizens are required to have a valid passport when entering each country in Bahamas. US passport holders don’t need a tourist visa if their stay in each country is less than 90 days. While it is possible to embark on a closed-loop cruise to Bahamas, US citizens will still need a valid passport to enter countries throughout Bahamas.

Can I cancel my Bahamas cruise booking?

You can cancel your Bahamasn cruise via the ‘Trips’ tab on Expedia. Alternatively, you can contact customer service and they can help cancel your cruise trip for you. Cancellation and refund policies will vary based on your cruise booking, as well as when you cancel your cruise trip. If you cancel your trip further in advance, you're more likely to receive a better refund.

Why should I book a cruise to Bahamas with Expedia?

Booking a cruise vacation with Expedia provides you with an abundance of cruise destinations in Bahamas, top cruise lines, and cheap cruise deals to ensure you have the best Bahamasn cruise.

When booking an eligible cruise as a One Key TM member, you will earn OneKeyCash TM .

This is our rewards currency which you can use to save on  eligible bookings  across Expedia, Hotels.com and Vrbo. The more you book on our three brands, the more perks you'll unlock.

What are the best things to do on a Bahamasn cruise?

Embarking on a boat cruise to Bahamas is a unique experience that you’ll want to make the most of—both onboard and offboard. Exploring the cruise ship, tasting meals from various dining options, utilizing available amenities, and engaging in organized activities are several of the many ways you can enjoy your time onboard to the fullest. Offboard, you’ll be able to immerse yourself in the local culture by trying the best foods, learning their traditions, and visiting cultural and historical sites.

What should I pack for my Bahamas cruise?

The weather in Bahamas varies by country and the time of year. Countries below the equator experience warmer weather starting in December while countries above the equator experience warmer weather in the mid- to late-spring months. So, your packing list will depend on when and where you go on your cruise trip to Bahamas. Regardless of the season or temperature, it’s generally advised to pack comfortable clothes, durable walking shoes, sunscreen, bug spray, and a portable charger.

Lounging at the beach in Great Stirrup Cay

Experience Great Stirrup Cay

All Norwegian cruises to the Bahamas feature a stop at our private island, Great Stirrup Cay. Whether you want to relax on the pristine white sand beaches or engage in various adventures and activities, there's something for everyone at Great Stirrup Cay.

For added privacy, guests can reserve private cabanas or villas. Silver Cove villas have air conditioning, TVs, on-demand movies, a private restroom, and access to the exclusive Silver Cove buffet. Villa guests also enjoy direct beach access and unobstructed sea views.

Great Stirrup Cay has you covered with multiple dining options when hunger strikes. Sample tropical delights at Jumbey Beach Grill, create your own tacos at Abaco Taco, or grab a quick bite from the Tropic Like It's Hot food truck. For refreshing adult beverages to cool down, visit the Bacardi Bar for a mojito, Patron Bar for a margarita, or Bertram's Bar for a wide range of cocktails.

Great Stirrup Cay, Bahamas

2024 Bahamas Cruise Ports of Call

Besides Great Stirrup Cay, a Norwegian 2024 Bahamas cruise might include stops at other destinations like Nassau and Grand Bahama Island . Nassau offers a chance to learn about infamous Caribbean pirates like Sir Henry Morgan, Blackbeard, and Calico Jack. Discover beautiful beaches and fantastic dive sites around Nassau. Grand Bahama Island, the closest major island to the United States, is famous for underwater caves, duty-free shopping, and markets.

Snorkeling

Shore Excursions To Try in the Bahamas

Norwegian offers a wide range of shore excursions on cruises to the Bahamas, including underwater and land-based adventures, historical tours, and more. Diving and snorkeling are among some of the most popular activities. You can still partake in a Discover Scuba Diving resort course if you're not yet certified. There's something for all ages and interests, whether you're visiting Great Stirrup Cay or another Bahamian paradise.

In Nassau, consider day trips to Blue Lagoon Island or Pearl Island , where you'll find stunning beaches and crystal-clear waters. Cruise to Rose Island to meet the famous swimming pigs . For a land-based adventure, book a Jeep tour of downtown Nassau and other fascinating island sights. If traveling with kids, consider spending the day at Atlantis Aquaventure , the resort's signature water park. Another exciting option is Baha Bay at Baha Mar , a lush 15-acre beachfront water park experience.

When stopping at Grand Bahama Island , opt for a snorkel sea safari or a Pirates Cove Beach getaway . Perfect for families, Pirates Cove features zip lines and a water park. Other exciting options include a 12.5-mile biking tour and an off-road ATV and beach tour. You can also check out the swimming pigs along the island's western tip.

Great Stirrup Cay boasts numerous island adventures and shore excursions. Enjoy a peaceful kayak ride along the coastline, snorkel with turtles, ride a Wave Runner , or experience zip lining. Take advantage of the swimming pigs on Treasure Island , just a 10-minute boat ride away.

National Art Gallery of the Bahamas

Landmarks and Attractions on a 2024 Bahamas Cruise

Nassau, one of the Bahamas' most popular cruise ports, is home to the Pirates of Nassau Museum, where you can find a replica of the pirate ship Revenge. Art enthusiasts will appreciate the National Art Gallery of the Bahamas, located in the beautifully restored Villa Doyle. History buffs should visit the Queen's Staircase, an 18th-century limestone staircase providing protected access to Fort Fincastle.

Be sure to check out the updated, and famous Straw Market. Here, you can immerse yourself in local culture and purchase a variety of handmade crafts and straw goods made by local artisans. To learn about Bahamian rum, visit John Watling's Distillery. Housed in the historic Buena Vista Estate, the distillery offers a production tour where you can learn more about these small-batch handcrafted rums.

Freeport, Grand Bahama

On Grand Bahama Island, explore Freeport's restaurants and duty-free shops. There's also a Straw Market on Grand Bahama Island, offering locally made straw goods. Visit Lucayan National Park to discover over 6 miles of caverns, caves, and charted tunnels, believed to be one of the world's largest underwater cave systems. Another nature option is the Rand Nature Centre. This 100-acre park has tons of native flora, birds, and butterflies. There's also an on-site art gallery showcasing local artists.

While many assume Freeport is the capital of Grand Bahama Island, West End holds that distinction. Rich in history, West End is known for tales of arms smugglers, rumrunners, and wreckers. It also served as a transfer base for liquor en route to the U.S. during Prohibition.

Top Bahamas FAQs

When’s the best time to take a cruise to The Bahamas?

Celebrity Cruises sails to The Bahamas year-round. The peak season is from December to early spring, while May and June tend to be wetter. Rain tends to fall in the late afternoon in short, sharp showers, so this shouldn’t be a deterrent from traveling.

Hurricane season is typically from June to November although, fortunately, The Bahamas is rarely affected by hurricanes. There are many systems in place to detect any hurricane weather along your route, ensuring your ship’s captain and crew will be able to chart a path around any bad weather or make modifications to the itinerary to keep you safe. Celebrity’s state-of-the-art ships are built for stability, keeping movement in rough seas to a minimum.

See our blog post about cruising during hurricane season for more information.

Do I need a passport?

It is the responsibility of each guest to identify and obtain all required travel documents and have them available at the pier when necessary. Before leaving home, take a few minutes to familiarize yourself with the required travel documents you will be asked to provide prior to boarding the ship. You’ll find more information here .

Not all Bahamas cruises require a passport. If you are an American citizen traveling from the U.S. to The Bahamas or Mexico on a closed-loop cruise, starting and ending at the same U.S. port, a state-issued ID and an original U.S. birth certificate are sufficient.

On Bahamas cruises that call at other Caribbean ports, you can enter with your U.S. passport book, passport card, Trusted Traveler card (Nexus, SENTRI, or FAST), or an enhanced driver’s license. See our blog post for more information.

What should I pack for a cruise to The Bahamas?

When packing for a cruise to The Bahamas, you’ll need clothing for a warm, sometimes humid climate. Bring plenty of beachwear, a sun hat, sunglasses, coverups, water shoes if you’re visiting coral beaches, and reef-friendly sunblock.

If you book a snorkeling excursion, all gear will be provided. If there are places where you may want to snorkel independently, consider bringing your own equipment.

Throughout the ship, casual resort wear, sundresses, shorts, polos, or button-downs are appropriate, paired with sandals, low heels, and loafers. In main and specialty dining, we ask guests to refrain from wearing swimsuits, see-through coverups or robes, bare feet, tank tops, T-shirts, and baseball caps.

Smart Casual attire is required for entry to main dining, specialty dining, and the Celebrity Theatre. Smart Casual means you look comfortable yet tasteful in a dress, skirt, long pants, or jeans with a stylish top or button-down. Shorts and flip-flops are not considered Smart Casual.

Each itinerary features one to two more “formal” nights that we call Evening Chic. Evening Chic means you dress to impress, glamorous and sophisticated in your own way, with a cocktail dress, skirt, slacks, or designer jeans, an elegant dress top, or blazer—some guests even pack a tuxedo or gown for onboard photos.

The daily program, delivered to your stateroom and available at the Guest Relations Desk, will be your guide to the correct attire each evening. If you do not wish to participate in Evening Chic, Smart Casual attire is acceptable for dining and attending the theater.

What are some things I can do on my cruise?

The Bahamas offers a range of activities to enjoy during your cruise. In Nassau, you could relax on beautiful beaches on Pearl Island or the Blue Lagoon. Join a watercolor painting class, snorkel over coral reefs, and even swim with friendly pigs. Learn about Nassau’s history, and sample conch fritters, the local specialty. If you’re traveling with kids, you could spend a day exploring Aquaventure waterpark at Atlantis Paradise Island and its waterslides, pools, river rapids, and vast aquarium.

In Bimini, you could relax on a pristine beach in an exclusive resort and swim in the warm, crystal-clear water. If you prefer a more active day, you could hand-feed wild stingrays, swim among reef sharks, or snorkel over the wreck of the Sapona, now colonized by tropical fish.

Perfect Day at CocoCay, our award-winning private island, is the place where you can be as adventurous or as indulgent as you wish. Fly down the tallest waterslide in North America, or whizz along a zipline. Take in the views from 450 feet above the shore in a helium balloon. Enjoy swimming in the largest freshwater lagoon pool in the Caribbean. Or elevate your experience with a luxurious private cabana, either on the powdery beach at Chill Island or perched directly over the aquamarine water.

How long are Bahamas cruises?

Cruises to The Bahamas are three to six nights long. On the shortest Bahamas cruises, you will have a day to explore Nassau and a full day to enjoy the many amenities of your Celebrity Cruises ship.

Other short cruises include Bimini and CocoCay, or a different combination of Key West and Nassau. Slightly longer voyages of five nights visit Key West, Bimini, and CocoCay. On a six-night voyage from Tampa, meanwhile, you will visit Nassau and Bimini and have three full days to enjoy the luxurious amenities of the ship.

What ports do you visit?

We visit three ports in The Bahamas: Nassau, Bimini, and Perfect Day at CocoCay, Royal Caribbean’s award-winning private island.

What can I do on board the ship?

Celebrity’s luxurious ships offer a wealth of activities. Bask by the shimmering pool, join a yoga or meditation class in the Fitness Center, or indulge in a blissful treatment in the Spa.

You’ll find a wide variety of places to dine, with menus crafted by our Michelin-starred chef. Enjoy BBQ specialties at the al fresco Lawn Club Grill (on Celebrity Silhouette and Celebrity Reflection) and marvel at the antics of the 3D characters who “prepare” your dinner in Le Petit Chef.

Enjoy the ship’s upscale bars and lounges, from the lively Martini Bar, where skilled mixologists entertain as they prepare your cocktail, to the beautiful Sunset Bar, a popular gathering place for pre-dinner drinks with friends, with infinite views of the blue ocean. You’ll find live music all over the ship late into the night, whether you want to dance, listen to jazz, or attend a Broadway-quality show in the Theatre.

Elevate your experience on board by choosing The Retreat , where you’ll luxuriate in a beautiful suite and have access to an exclusive lounge and the exceptional Luminae at the Retreat restaurant.

More than 200,000 U.S. citizens travel to The Bahamas for Spring Break every year.

It’s one of the top Spring Break destinations in the world.  If you’re looking to party, Freeport, Bahamas is where you go.

The most popular spot spring breakers go in Freeport is Port Lucaya Square.  Here, there are more than 30 bars and restaurants that host parties, live musicians, and plenty of drink specials every night.

If you want to avoid the rowdy spring break crowds, avoid towns like Nassau and Freeport and head to the Exumas instead.

With more than 350 cays and islands, you’ll enjoy cleaner water and far fewer people.

Many travelers claim that Great Exuma and Little Exuma are the best options.

Book tours that spring breakers likely wouldn’t be on including museum or cultural tours rather than water activities or bar crawls.

What’s The Wildlife Like?

The tropical islands of the Bahamas are known for their vast collection of unique animals.

In fact, you have probably heard of the swimming pigs. They are one of the most popular tourist attractions many visitors go to the Bahamas to see.

No one knows for sure why or how they got to their current home of Big Major Cay.

However, the swimming pigs are extremely friendly and actually depend on tourists for food including lettuce and apples.

Although rare to see, the Bahamian rock iguana is one of the other unique animals you can witness in the Bahamas.

These pinkish in color reptiles are friendly and love to get up close and personal with humans on the Exuma Islands.

Stingrays, West Indian flamingos, Abaco parrots, Tiger sharks, and great hammerhead sharks are some of the other unique animals you can encounter when in the Bahamas.

What To Wear? Should Visitors Hit The Beach?

While March might be “winter” in some parts of the world, that’s just not the case in the Bahamas.

For the most part, visitors dress pretty casually (think beach-chic).  Since it’s one of the warmest months rather warm all year round, it’s best to dress in light, thin layers to be comfortable in the humidity.

Some options include shorts, skirts, tank tops, bathing suit cover-ups, short sleeve button-ups, and sundresses.

Depending on what time of year you are visiting, it can get cooler once the sun goes down.

Be sure to pack a thin sweater, pashmina, or windbreaker just in case.  And don’t forget your swim gear and sunglasses!

Many travel experts and locals will agree that the best time to visit Miami is between March and May.

Bahamas In March Frequently Asked Questions

Is march a good time to go to the bahamas.

March is definitely the best time to visit the Bahamas!  Vacationing in the Bahamas in March means milder weather conditions, comfortable breezes, and plenty of things to do and see.

It’s also outside of the Atlantic Hurricane Season which is an added bonus for those worried about the weather raining on their parade (literally)!

The only factor to be aware of is the crowds.  As mentioned previously, March marks the beginning of Spring Break.

Hundreds of thousands of young party-goers will flock to popular towns across the islands from mid-March to early April.

They will be in search of sun and fun, so be sure you do your research in advance to avoid the party towns and get the best deals on hotels.

Is March Rainy Season In The Bahamas?

Due to its location in the Caribbean, the Bahamas is prone to rainy days, tropical storms, and hurricanes during certain months.

Most of the time, the islands experience short bursts of rain or steady drizzle that clears and makes way for moments of sun.

March is a warmer season which brings cloud cover for about 25 percent of the month, but not always days of rain.  In fact, March is the driest month of the year.

The wettest month of the year is August with an average rainfall of 6.2 inches.

The clearest day of the month is March 7, so be sure to book your favorite excursions on this day!

Is It Warm Enough To Swim In The Bahamas In March?

Absolutely!  The seawater around the Bahamas remains around 75 degrees, which means swimming for long periods of time will be very comfortable.

Participating in other water activities will be very enjoyable, as the air temperatures are also very warm and mild year-round.

You can choose to lounge by the pool or take to snorkeling a reef without feeling chilly or uncomfortable.

The latter half of March also sees longer days and periods of sun. The sun rises at 7 am and doesn’t set until 7.30 pm, leaving you with plenty of great time to take to the water.

What Is The Best Month To Go To The Bahamas?

There’s really no “bad” time to go to the Bahamas. Deciding when to go depends on your interests and the type of vacation you want to have.

If you’re looking for fewer crowds, you may want to visit in November or late April (after the Spring Break crowds have left).  These months are also still outside of the Atlantic Hurricane season.

Are you a budget traveler? You’ll want to visit during the low season from August to November.

The weather will be less ideal during these months, but flight, hotel, and resort rates will stretch your money further.

To avoid the rain as much as possible, visit between November and June.  The wet season begins in July and ends in December.

Regardless of when you choose to visit the Bahamas, you’re sure to enjoy plenty of sun, a rich and diverse culture, and make endless memories!

Bahamas from Miami March 2024

Bahamas

During your Bahamas trip from Miami in March 2024 , you will have the opportunity to go snorkeling, walk along beaches with pearly pink sand, and swim through crystal-clear blue waters. Here is a summary of the weather in the Bahamas to help you efficiently plan your trip from Miami. The beaches of the two thousand cays and seven hundred islands that make up the Bahamas archipelago are recognized for their beautiful white coloration. This collection of little paradises enjoys the benefits of a tropical marine environment, with a mild and dry winter season lasting from November to April and a hot and rainy summer lasting from May to October each year. The months of June through November are known as hurricane season. The temperatures on the northern and western islands are typically lower than those on the southern islands. It is possible to thank the Gulf Stream and the north-easterly trade winds for the islands' usually mild weather. But both of these things are to blame for the fact that the islands are vulnerable to hurricanes, which often cause a lot of damage. Departing from Miami, Bahamas cruise ports welcome ships and visitors from the world’s most popular cruise lines, including Carnival Cruise Line , Celebrity Cruises , MSC Cruises , Norwegian Cruise Line , Royal Caribbean , Virgin Voyages , offering a large number of Bahamas voyages in March 2024.

U.S. Warns Spring Breakers Headed to Mexico, Jamaica or the Bahamas

In recent weeks, American travelers to some of the busiest international destinations during spring vacation have been urged by the State Department to exercise extra caution.

A sunset over a calm harbor turns the water and the ski into hues of dark blue and black.

By Vjosa Isai

Don’t wander off the resort after dark. Keep the flashy clothing and jewelry to a minimum. Stay aware of your surroundings. Those are some of the travel rules that Ginger Moore, a retired logistics analyst from Panama City, Fla., adheres to on her solo trips throughout the Caribbean.

Ms. Moore, 75, has always felt safe during her stays in Jamaica, where she’s returning for the fourth time on Wednesday. But this year, while she’s still happy to take a trip, a travel advisory for Jamaica, reissued in January by the U.S. State Department, has elevated her concerns.

“I’m sure there are parts, just like the United States, that you can go into that are not recommended,” said Ms. Moore. Nonetheless, she has taken new precautions for her upcoming trip, like packing additional health supplies and purchasing a security bar for the sliding balcony door of her hotel room.

In recent weeks, the State Department and U.S. Embassies have issued new and updated advisories urging travelers to Mexico, Jamaica and the Bahamas — some of the busiest international spring break destinations — to exercise extra caution after recent violent events, some in tourist areas. Security experts suggest that the advice is largely consistent with advisories of previous years.

Caroline Hammer, a global security analyst at the risk intelligence company RANE , said tourists should interpret the advisories as warnings to exercise caution and avoid specific hot spots for crime, but not as a blanket rule to restrict their travel anywhere in the region.

What do the travel warnings say?

Warnings about spring break travel to certain parts of Mexico came in recent days, while the security alerts and updated travel advisories for Jamaica and the Bahamas were issued in late January.

The State Department has classified Jamaica at Level 3 since 2022, recommending visitors “ reconsider travel ” because of episodes of violent crime. The agency reissued the travel advisory in January to also alert tourists about access to medical services, and warned that “sexual assaults occur frequently, including at all-inclusive resorts.”

Kamina Johnson Smith, Jamaica’s foreign affairs and foreign trade minister, said in a statement published two days later that the country made “serious improvements” in responding to crime and in its health care infrastructure and disagreed with the scope of the advisory.

“The government of Jamaica is disappointed that the language used does not reflect our country’s significant progress,” she said.

Data from the Jamaican national police force shows that as of March 1, several crime categories, including murders, break-ins and rapes, had declined compared with the same period in 2023, though shootings and assault had risen.

In the Bahamas, gang violence and a number of murders prompted U.S. officials to urge tourists to “ exercise increased caution ,” especially in the cities of Nassau and Freeport. Recreational boat tours, jet ski rentals and other water activities are unevenly regulated, the advisory additionally notes, and have led to injuries and deaths.

In early February, two female travelers said their drinks had been spiked during a cruise stop in the Bahamas and accused resort staff of sexually assaulting them .

Last week, in a statement specifically discussing spring break travel, the U.S. Embassy in Mexico reiterated precautions outlined in a State Department travel advisory, last updated over the summer, issued because of crime and kidnappings. It reminded tourists to be cautious when visiting the downtown areas of Cancún, Playa del Carmen and Tulum, all in Quintana Roo State.

The advisory also recommends travel by toll road in daytime hours, and to remain near major cities, which have a heightened police presence and other emergency services.

What’s behind the warning in Mexico?

Organized crime groups in Mexico have largely kept violent activity outside resorts to avoid hurting the tourism industry, said Ms. Hammer, of RANE. The cartels, she said, depend on tourists themselves, by selling drugs to visitors and extorting local businesses, and it would generate a heightened response from the Mexican government.

In 2023, tourists spent close to $3.1 billion in Mexico, up 10 percent over 2022, according to data from the tourism ministry, with many travelers Cancún-bound.

A handful of violent episodes last year included the kidnappings of two Americans who had crossed the border near Brownsville, Texas, and were found dead, as well as heated disputes between rival taxi and Uber drivers in Cancún. The violence came on the heels of a number of gunfights and assassinations in late 2021 and early 2022 that rattled tourists along the Riviera Maya .

“The good news is that those incidents that have been reported inside of resorts are extremely, extremely rare,” Ms. Hammer said.

In its latest advisory, the State Department warns that shootings by rival gangs, “while not directed at tourists,” have caught some in the crossfire, even on resorts. Last month, an American woman was killed during a drug-related shooting in a beach club in Tulum. Prosecutors in Quintana Roo said she was a bystander.

Despite these incidents, the security picture in Mexico has generally remained unchanged, said Zachary Rabinor, the founder and president of Journey Mexico , a luxury travel company.

“A lot of this is kind of general, stereotypical fears,” he said, adding that tourists shouldn’t interpret violent episodes as sweeping events, especially in resort destinations most popular with visitors.

“There are definitely still areas that are troublesome, but in general, they are not where tourists are going,” Mr. Rabinor said.

What’s behind the warning for the Bahamas?

In January, the Bahamian prime minister, Philip Davis, shared his government’s plan to tamp down criminal activity after a spate of murders, mostly gang-related.

“If you choose crime, you will face the full weight and might of the law,” Mr. Davis said during a national address on Jan. 24. The admonishing tone was a sharp turn from a celebratory moment just a month earlier, when the Bahamian tourism ministry announced the country had hit a record of eight million travelers in 2023.

While the police grapple with crime off resorts, the Bahamian foreign affairs ministry said, in a statement published shortly after the U.S. Embassy alert, that the country does not believe that tourists are under any new “elevated or increased security risk.”

What can you do to stay safe?

Effective safety measures can be as simple as remaining vigilant, and planning ahead by purchasing travel insurance and updating emergency contact lists. Other general steps recommended in the advisories include avoiding walking or driving off the resort areas at night, avoiding public transit and heeding local laws.

High traveler volumes around spring break may make tourism police forces, in places where they have them, slower to respond to emergency calls, Ms. Hammer of RANE Network warned.

Arranging transportation through a travel company or a resort for excursions or trips to the airport is highly recommended, said Scott Stewart, the vice president for intelligence at the security firm TorchStone Global.

“A lot of times, there’s not a lot of a gap between criminals and taxi drivers in many countries, so using a trusted transportation provider is huge,” said Mr. Stewart.

He also recommends “traveling gray,” a term used in security circles for keeping a low profile, such as by not displaying luxury items that might draw the attention of criminals.

The State Department’s reissued warning raised concerns for Ms. Moore, the traveler heading to Jamaica, but it hasn’t deterred her from making the trip.

“In the tourist areas, I just feel very comfortable,” she said. “I’ve just never had any bad experiences, knock on wood, and I love Jamaica. That’s why I keep going back.”

Travel | how onepulse broke orlando’s heart | a special report, things to do, subscriber only, travel | disney cruise line shares construction updates for new bahamas site lookout cay.

With three months out before the first visitors will be welcomed to Disney’s new Bahamas destination, Disney Cruise Line showed off some photos of construction updates.

Opening in June, Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point at the southern end of Eleuthera is the cruise line’s second private port of call in the Bahamas adding to Castaway Cay.

On an update to the Disney Parks Blog, the line showed off three images including an aerial shot of the colorful line of the Mabrika Cove Cabanas that would be one of the first things approaching visitors would see as cruise ships approach the dock.

“Mabrika” the Taino word for “welcome.” Disney said Taino was spoken by native Lucayans.

Also shared were images of the shell-themed architecture that acts as shade covering over pavilions designed to look like seashells scattered along the coastline offering up seating for the free on-shore True-True Too BBQ dining option for visitors.

The pavilions will feature art inspired by coral, seashells, fish and flowers of Eleuthera.

A final images shows a tram stop where Bahamas-themed vendors will be based offering up merchandise and hair braiding among other things, according to the post.

Previous details shared about Lookout Cay detailed other areas of the site that will embrace Bahamian culture. Central to the welcome area is the Goombay Cultural Center tied to the Bahamian carnival-esque festival Junkanoo, with a parade on tap during ships’ visits. Also on site will be Triton’s Trumpet Stage, a gazebo named after a common Bahamian spiraled seashell that doubles as a reference to King Triton from “The Little Mermaid.”

The 700-acre site, of which Disney plans to only develop 16%, will also feature retail shops with Bahamian gifts and crafts called Treasures of Eleuthera, part of the line’s promise to benefit the local economy.

Among the developed space will be an adults-only area called Serenity Bay similar to Castaway Cay, featuring its own beach and dining areas plus private cabanas.

Disney has promised to set aside at least 190 acres to be given back to the Bahamian government including the southernmost point of the land, which is expected to become a national park.

The second Bahamas site for the cruise line has been in the works since it won approval from the government to purchase the land in 2019, but it has faced delays because of the COVID pandemic, hurricanes as well as going through an environmental assessment. It began operating Castaway Cay in 1998 with the debut of its first ship.

It falls in line with the expanding fleet for DCL, which welcomed its fifth ship Disney Wish in 2022 sailing out of Port Canaveral and will bring on its sister ship Disney Treasure this December. The line has plans to grow to eight ships by the end of 2025.

Disney Cruise Line queues up old and new features for new ship Disney Treasure

Previous statements from Disney Cruise Line have said the plan for Lighthouse Point would see similar traffic as Castaway Cay, between three and five weekly visits from cruise ships year-round.

First sailings this summer will come mostly from Port Everglades, but that will expand to regular visits from Port Canaveral-based ships in the fall.

The site also includes a main beach, family beach, gaming pavilion, market-style dining, water play area with two slides, water drums, fountains and dedicated space for toddlers, a club for children age 3-12 that has its own splash pad themed to “The Little Mermaid” and dedicated dining area.

Recreation options on the site include a covered gaming pavilion, volleyball court, gaga ball pit, watercraft and bike rentals as well as nature trails for hiking and biking. The line is working with local tour operators as well for a lineup to explore beyond the resort.

Details about the site can be found at lighthousepointbahamas.com.

A 27-year-old Florida woman died on a cruise while traveling to the Bahamas earlier this week, and officials discovered cocaine in her cabin.

The passenger was found unresponsive around 5:30 p.m. Monday.

“A team of medical personnel from the ship assisted and performed CPR, but no vital signs of life were detected and she was declared deceased,” the Royal Bahamas Police Force said in a statement.

The passenger was found unresponsive inside her cabin at around 5:30 p.m. on Monday as the boat, not pictured, made its way down to the Caribbean nation.

No official cause of death has been revealed for the woman.

“An autopsy will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death. Investigations are ongoing into this incident.”

A 32-year-old American male, also from Florida, was arrested by the RBPF after its investigation led to the discovery and confiscation of a “quantity of suspected cocaine from the cabin.”

The identities of both Florida residents have not been released.

Monday’s death comes a month after two Kentucky moms were drugged and raped while at a resort enjoying the day at the port from their Carnival Cruise on the Grand Bahama Island.

Friends Amber Shearer and Dongayla Dobson were on their kids-free vacation at the Pirates Cove Resort when a male staffer allegedly offered them a two-for-one tropical drink deal.

The drinks, however, were reportedly stronger than expected, and both women became highly intoxicated 15 minutes after their first sips, Dobson  told NewsNation’s “Cuomo.”

Monday's death comes a month after two Kentucky moms, Amber Shearer and Dongayla Dobson, were drugged and raped while at a resort enjoying the day at the port from their Carnival Cruise on the Grand Bahama Island.

A second resort employee had allegedly lured the women to a secluded area and led them to where they were eventually assaulted while in their impaired state.

Ladonna Batty, a family nurse from Arkansas, was a passenger on the same Carnival cruise the women were on when the ship docked at the Grand Bahama island.

“Out of my 20-odd years of practicing, it was the worst scene that I had ever had to work. It was a horrible situation for both girls,”  Batty told LEX 18.  “Worst thing I’ve ever seen. They were in horrible shambles.”

Florida woman found dead on cruise ship, Bahamas police say

By Alex Sundby

March 13, 2024 / 7:19 PM EDT / CBS News

A 27-year-old Florida woman traveling to the Bahamas on a cruise ship was found dead in her cabin, police said. The Royal Bahamas Police Force said it was investigating the unidentified woman's death and that an autopsy will be conducted to determine how she died.

Police on the island of Grand Bahama were told Monday the woman was found unresponsive in her cabin on an unidentified cruise line en route to the nation in the West Indies, the agency said in a statement Tuesday.

Medical personnel on the ship performed CPR on the woman, police said. They weren't able to revive her, and she was declared dead.

Officers found a substance suspected of being cocaine in the cabin and arrested an unidentified 32-year-old Florida man on an unspecified charge, police said.

Port Lucaya Marina is seen in Freeport, Bahamas, on Feb. 6, 2011.

In the Bahamas, 18 killings in January spurred the U.S. Embassy in the capital of Nassau to urge Americans to exercise caution in parts of the country.

"Murders have occurred at all hours including in broad daylight on the streets," the embassy said on its website .

The U.S. State Department issued a travel advisory because of the violence. In response, the Bahamian government said the killings did not reflect the country's safety and announced new initiatives to reduce crime.

"The safety and security of everyone is of paramount importance to us and we are confident that The Bahamas will remain safe and welcoming for millions of visitors to continue to enjoy the magic and beauty of our beautiful islands," the prime minister's office said in a statement .

According to figures released by the country's tourism ministry , over 9.6 million people visited the country last year, an increase from 2022.

Most of those tourists —over 7.9 million people— arrived in the country by sea, an increase from over 5.5 million in 2022, the tourism ministry said.

A 32-year-old Florida man has been arrested in the Bahamas after a woman was found dead on a cruise ship.

Around 5:30 p.m. local time on Monday, the Royal Bahamas Police Force was contacted with reports of an unresponsive passenger on board a cruise ship on the island of Grand Bahama, according to a police report . Authorities have not disclosed the name of the cruise line.

A female passenger, later identified as a 27-year-old woman, also from Florida, had been found unresponsive in her cabin on the ship, and after a medical team responded to the scene and performed CPR, she was pronounced dead, per police.

Upon investigating, the Royal Bahamas Police Force “confiscated a quantity of suspected cocaine” from the female passenger’s cabin. They also arrested the 32-year-old man.
