6 Best Wineries of Central Coast California (Location, Reviews)
Have you ever thought about taking a trip down to the Golden State? Well, if you have, one of the most fun things you could do is go wine-tasting .
If you’re already a wine connoisseur or enthusiast, this might be just that new experience you need. Wines are one of the fine things of life, and everyone (lover of wine or not) needs to try them out.
If you’ve been longing for this trip without knowing the exact location, there we are right here for your rescue. This article will be reviewing one of the most historical winemaking regions in the history of the USA: The Central Coast American region.
All the way from Monterrey to Santa Barbara , we’ll be taking you through the best wineries in all of Central Coast American Viticultural Areas (AVAs). Here’s our guide to the crème de la crème of Central Coast Wineries (in no particular order).
Top Wineries of Central Coast California
Bianchi winery.
Sitting on a spacious 40-acre expanse of land in Paso Robles, Bianchi Winery and Tasting Room offer exclusive wines, an outdoor BBQ, and a full kitchen. If you’re a visitor who needs a place to stay, Bianchi also offers accommodation in the vineyard house.
Apart from the wine-tasting itself, they also offer tours of their facility, explaining the various aspects of the winemaking process.
Let’s dive into a little bit of history. The Bianchi Winery started with Joseph Bianchi in 1974. He invested in a vineyard located on the banks of the San Joaquin River. Bianchi’s wines won many awards for using advanced farming and production technologies for his winemaking processes.
His own son, Glenn, built on his father’s legacy, acquiring the 40-acre property where the winery is currently located.
Now, three decades later from the time of Joseph, Beau has picked up the torch laid on by his father and grandfather. He has stepped up the hospitality and winemaking experience a notch, making the Bianchi winery a world-class spot for wine tasting.
The winery is popular for making from the more popular wines (Pinot, Cabernet, Chardonnay, Merlot, etc.) to some more exclusive wines (Primitivo and Cabernet Franc). The cavernous yet modern-looking tasting rooms serve these wines. I
f you cannot make it to their facility physically, you can always find their varietals all across the country.

Sanford and Benedict Winery
Sandford and Benedict Winery was one of the first founding vineyards in the Santa Barbara region. They’ve always maintained their premier status ever since.
With over 40 years of winemaking experience, this vineyard is home to some of the oldest Pinot Noir vines in the world. They are also a popular specialist in hand-crafted, estate-bottled Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.
Apart from these popular wines, they also offer a variation of world-class wines squeezed from the finest of grapes grown in their historic estate.
They also offer a facility tour, educating visitors on the various vines in Santa Barbara county. If you need a picnic spot overlooking scenic vineyard views, then Sanford and Benedict Winery is also a great choice.

Ancient Peaks Winery
Located just 14 miles away from the Pacific Ocean at the foot of the Santa Lucia Mountains, the vineyard soil of this winery consists of a fossilized seabed.
The soil was lifted to the ground surface some 10 million years ago. This soil is the secret to their array of grape flavors. This is because the soil has different varieties, hence, providing different grape flavors.
On Saturdays, the Ancient Peaks winery staff show visitors around the facility, educating them on the different soils and the noteworthy practices used to sustain the soil.
Apart from these, the visitors also get to taste their limited-edition Pearl Collection reserve wines. After tasting their delicious wines, you also get to try your hand at artisan cheeses and select fine meats.
If you’re the one who loves that surge of adrenaline, you can also try their zip line canopy tours. You’ll get a quite expansive view of the scenic vineyards at the height of 125 feet.
Located just one mile from Highway 101 in San Luis Obispo County, the winery is quite accessible to visitors.

Justin Vineyards and Winery
The Justin Vineyards and Winery are self-named after its owner, Justin Baldwin, who purchased 160 acres of land in the Paso Robles region. His goal was to make world-class Bordeaux-style wine varietals.
Sixteen years after the establishment of this winery, Winespectator ranked one of Red Blends from the stables of Justin’s winery as the 6 th best in the world. This was a great achievement, considering the list compiled 100 different wines.
They can make such world-class red blends thanks to the petrified limestone soil obtained from generations of sea deposits on their lands. The end result is a mix of big and bold-tasting red wines.
Justin winery is widely acclaimed for putting the Paso Robles region on the global map of wine-producing regions. The reasons for these claims are not hard to find.
The Justin Winery was the first winery to offer luxury overnight rooms, a tasting room, and an award-winning restaurant.
At Justin wineries, you get that five-star hotel feel mixed with a more rural landscape view. If you’re a wine lover planning a weekend getaway, Justin Vineyards and Winery might just be the perfect spot for you.

Qupé Wineries
The name Qupé is the Chumash word for poppy. The founder of the Qupé wineries, Bob Lindquist, started the winery back in 1982 with the vision of planting Rhone varieties in the Californian region.
He was one of the first winemakers to plant the Syrah grapes. His first vineyard was the Sawyer Lindquist vineyard which is biodynamically enhanced. Located in the Enda Valley AVA, this vineyard has received both the Stellar Organic and Demeter Biodynamic certifications.
Now, they have two other vineyards: the and Ibarra-Young vineyard in the Santa Ynez Valley AVA and the Bien Nacido Vineyards in the Santa Maria Valley AVA.
They now use a wide variety of grapes, including the Grenache, Pinot Noir, Marsanne, and a few others. The interesting thing about the Qupé wines is that they have three labels each for their head winemakers: one for Bob, one for his wife, Louisa, and the last for his son, Ethan. The labels are named Qupé, Verdad, and Ethan, respectively.
In terms of their tasting room, they moved into another about six years ago, which has quite a better ambiance than the former.
Also, the winery is now under new management with Vintage Wine Estates (who are owners of quite a few Central Coast wineries). If you want a tasting from one of the best to ever get into the wine business, then the Qupé winery is a good choice.

Demetria Estate
If you plan to visit a winery that gives that home-away-from-home feel, then Demetria Estate is a great pick. Demetria Estate is a family-owned winery that makes quite artistically crafted wines.
The winery is located on a biodynamically enhanced expanse of 40 acres. They collect different Rhone grape varieties for their wines. These include Syrah, Viognier, and Grenache Blanc, and a couple of others.
At Demetria, their wines are not just for wine enthusiasts but casual wine lovers as well. For those who are inseparable from their pets, they also allow pets at Demetria (provided your pet is well behaved and leashed).
The hills surrounding the tasting room also give extra ambiance, giving off a very relaxed vibe to visitors.
While their facility is quite nice, finding your way there seems to be quite a daunting task though. The road is quite winding, and the asphalt is poorly maintained.
However, if you do find your way down there, it’s an adventure that promises to be worth the while.

Last weekend I had the pleasure of experiencing a Silk Road wine tour for my birthday with 4 of my friends. Every aspect of the day exceeded our expectations.
From the time of booking, Ozzy was incredibly friendly, helpful and informative. Anne, our guide on the day of the tour, was so lovely in every way. She really did everything she could to make sure we were all comfortable and having a great time. I will absolutely recommend this to anyone I know traveling to the area. And I will definitely be back myself - when I do, they will be the first call I make. Thank you so much Silk Road! You all really made my birthday a very, very special day!

Our vineyards are comprised of around 50 acres planted to Zinfandel, Petite Sirah, Merlot, Carignane, Grignolino, Sagrantino, and Cabernet Sauvignon.
Our Tasting Room
Visiting Guglielmo Winery’s Tasting Room and Retail Gift Shop is like taking a step back into Old Italy. Large wooden beams, stone walls, and terracotta tile provide a relaxing backdrop to enjoy tastings of the Guglielmo family’s award-winning wines. We are open Wednesday through Monday from 11 AM to 5 PM. We are closed on all major holidays, thank you.
Award Winning Wines
Guglielmo Winery produces around 40,000 plus cases annually. Our estate vineyards produce our Private Reserve wines, which have repetitively produced the majority of our award winning wines.
Here are a few of our current award winning wines:
Established by family patriarch, Emilio Guglielmo, the Guglielmo (gool-yell-mo) family has been producing award-winning wines in the Santa Clara Valley since 1925. Today, the winemaking and daily operations remain in the hands of the third and fourth generation family members! Your visit is welcomed and you will fall in love with the winery, the award-winning wines and the warmth of the Guglielmo family.

Best Wineries In The Central Coast, California

Welcome to the beautiful Central Coast of California, a region home to some of the best wineries in the world. This area is known for its stunning scenery, with rolling hills and ocean views, as well as a Mediterranean climate that is perfect for growing grapes. It\’s no wonder that the Central Coast has become a top destination for wine lovers. In this article, we will explore the best wineries in the Central Coast, from Santa Barbara to San Luis Obispo County.
One of the top wineries in the region is the Dierberg & Star Lane Vineyards, which are located in the Santa Ynez Valley. This winery is known for producing premium, high-quality wines, with a focus on Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. The vineyards are situated just 14 miles from the coast, offering the perfect coastal influence on the grapes.
The Bien Nacido Vineyards, also in the Santa Ynez Valley, is another must-visit destination. These vineyards have been producing wine since the early 1970s and are known for their exceptional Pinot Noirs, Syrahs, and Chardonnays. The vineyard is located on a hillside, giving stunning views of the valley below.
If you\’re a fan of Rhône-style wines, then don\’t miss out on the Tablas Creek Vineyard in Paso Robles. This winery is run by the son of the renowned Perrin family of Château de Beaucastel in the Rhône Valley of France. Here, you can taste some of the best Syrahs, Grenaches, and Mourvèdres outside of Europe.
Another top winery in Paso Robles is the Justin Vineyards and Winery. Justin is known for producing Bordeaux-style blends, such as their flagship wine, Isosceles. The winery has a beautiful tasting room overlooking the vineyards, as well as an on-site restaurant that offers gourmet farm-to-table cuisine.
A bit further south is the Chamisal Vineyards in San Luis Obispo County. This winery was one of the first in the region to produce Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, and they are still known for these varieties today. The vineyard is located in the Edna Valley, which has a unique climate that makes it perfect for growing these grapes.
If you\’re looking for a unique experience, head to the Hearst Ranch Winery in San Simeon. Here, you can taste wine and visit the Hearst Castle, a historical monument built by newspaper magnate William Randolph Hearst. The winery produces Cabernet Sauvignon, Tempranillo, and Malbec, among other varieties.
Last but not least, we have the Foxen Vineyard, also located in the Santa Maria Valley. This winery has a reputation for producing some of the best Pinot Noirs and Chardonnays in the region. The winery\’s tasting room is housed in a 19th-century schoolhouse, adding to the unique charm of the experience.
The Top Varietals in the Central Coast
The Central Coast is known for producing exceptional Pinot Noirs, Chardonnays, and Rhône-style blends. Pinot Noir is particularly popular in the cooler Santa Barbara and Santa Maria Valleys, where the grapes benefit from the ocean influence. Chardonnay also thrives in these cooler areas, while Rhône-style blends do well in the warmer Paso Robles region.
Sustainability in the Wineries
Many of the wineries in the Central Coast are committed to sustainability, both in the vineyards and in their production processes. For example, the Dierberg & Star Lane Vineyards have implemented organic and biodynamic farming practices, while the Justin Vineyards and Winery is SIP certified (Sustainability in Practice).
The Future of the Central Coast Wine Industry
The Central Coast wine industry is booming, with new wineries popping up every year. However, the changing climate poses a significant challenge for the industry, as droughts and heatwaves become more frequent. Many wineries are taking action by implementing sustainable practices and experimenting with new grape varieties that can better withstand these conditions.
The Best Wine Pairings for Central Coast Cuisine
The Central Coast is a foodie\’s paradise, with fresh seafood, artisan cheeses, and farm-to-table cuisine. For a true Central Coast experience, pair your wine with local favorites like grilled swordfish, seared scallops, or creamy goat cheese. Pinot Noir is an excellent match for seafood, while Chardonnay goes well with creamy dishes like risotto. For heartier dishes like grilled steak, try a Cabernet Sauvignon.
The Benefits of Wine Tasting in the Central Coast
Wine tasting in the Central Coast is a unique experience that offers not just great wine, but also stunning scenery, gourmet cuisine, and a chance to learn about the wine-making process. Many wineries offer guided tours and tastings, giving visitors a chance to learn about the region\’s history and the winemaker\’s craft. Whether you\’re a wine aficionado or just looking for a fun day out, the Central Coast is the perfect destination.

Jasmine was amazing. I have never booked a personal tour like this before and I was skeptical but was I glad I went ahead with it. Jasmine made our trip very special and memorable. She is very knowledgeable and also very thorough. I enjoyed all the different things she had planned for us based on the interests we have. I highly recommend her to anyone looking for a fun and informational trip to SLO and the surrounding areas.
Preeti Kaur
Jasmine helped us plan for a fun day including wine tastings and sampling other local food at the farmer's market and shops. We visited 3 wineries with different styles of tastings and vibes. We would not have discovered one of our now favorite wineries without her recommendations or tasted the delicious quality local specialties that we did not expect to find in Paso Robles. A wonderful local guide to go to when you visit Paso Robles, especially if you hope to pack more experience than just the wines on your trip.
Dave & Lori H.
FLEXIBLE: Jasmine is an excellent host, very accommodating and flexible with our family. We would highly recommended her.
EXCELLENT INTRODUCTION TO LA: Jasmine provided a great introduction on our first visit to LA. She's friendly, professional, and a great driver in the crazy LA traffic. The tour was a good mix of well known, iconic LA sites and unknown, unexpected places. She was friendly and informative. We'll use her again the next time we visit.

LOS ANGELES IN TWO DAYS: We took a private two day tour with Jasmine and she was excellent. We had a wonderful time and so enjoyed her company. We would highly recommend her!
BOSCH & LA - AWESOME TOUR WITH JASMINE: We did a 5 hour Oh My Bosch private tour with Jasmine. My husband is a big fan of the books and absolutely loved this tour! Jasmine also combined it with details of the history of LA as we were driving and visiting different sites which I loved also. This is a great way to see the city! Jasmine is a wonderful tour guide and I would recommend her tours to anyone visiting LA. We look forward to seeing her for another tour next time we visit.
LA PRIVATE TOUR: My 2 teens and I had the pleasure of spending the day with jasmine on a private LA tour. We had a wonderful day. Jasmine managed to keep my kids attention for the entire time. She was very knowledgeable and explained everything as we went along. Jasmine has a great personality and was just lovely to spend the day with. We would highly recommend her tour!!
TOUR OF LA: We had a twelve hour layover at LAX on our way back from Tahiti. We were looking for something to do and one of the people in our group found LaLa Tours online. Jasmine was very professional and accommodating getting back to us and scheduling a tour of the city. Our plane was delayed but she was still right here waiting for us. She gave us an amazing tour hitting all the highlights and was full of information. She also took us to a market where the food was amazing! I would highly recommend getting Jasmine to show you around LA! LaLa Tours, courteous, friendly, knowledgeable and fun!

GREAT TOUR: We had a private customised tour around LA. Jasmine kept a good pace and we visited a lot of different sites. She was an excellent guide and I have no hesitation in recommending her for any tours you have in LA.

California's Central Coast: The Complete Guide
California's Central Coast: The Complete Guide
Westend61 / Getty Images
California’s famous central coast stretches from just north of Los Angeles in Ventura County to south of San Francisco in Santa Clara, encompassing the spectacular regions of Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo, Big Sur, and Monterey. Its 350 miles of beautiful coastline incorporates stunning vistas of the Pacific Ocean from 400-foot sea cliffs and acres upon acres of vineyards and California farmland . This special division of the Golden State offers one of the most quintessential and underrated road trip routes in the country, along unparalleled Highway 1.
Spot playful sea otter and massive elephant seals at nature preserves near Hearst Castle or experience authentic California beach towns with unique microclimates in Cambria , Avila Beach, and Cayucos. Across the street from Hearst Castle at William Randolph Hearst Memorial Beach, a moderate trail known for its wildflowers and birdwatching leads you out to the tip of San Simeon Point.
Take a once-in-a-lifetime drive along Oceano Dunes Natural Preserve , one of the only beaches in California that allows driving. Go camping at Pismo Beach State Park or discover the black sand beaches and waterfalls at Ragged Point. Hike to mountainous Morro Rock at Morro Bay or check out the infamous Gum Wall in San Luis Obispo . Sightsee on the Bixby Creek Bridge, which is perhaps the most iconic landmark on California’s Central Coast, or take a ride on the coastal bike path between Ventura and Ojai. Pull over to take a photo at McWay Falls, the 80-foot-tall waterfall on the coast of Big Sur that flows year-round from McWay Creek directly into the Pacific Ocean.
Planning Your Trip
- Best Time to Visit : Depending on what types of activities you’re looking for, it's hard to go wrong in California’s Central Coast (no matter what the season). Fall or winter are the best times for surfing, and springtime offers far less crowds for wine tasting and road-tripping. Summer offers slightly more crowds but much warmer weather .
- Language: English
- Currency: U.S. Dollars
- Getting Around: Hands down the easiest way to get around California’s Central Coast is by car. If you want to save gas money or spend time enjoying the sights rather than driving, opt for a wine tour or the Amtrak Pacific Surfliner.
- Travel Tip: Although this coastal region sits right between bustling San Francisco and crowded Los Angeles, don’t expect to see any big cities here. This area is known for its small coastal surfing towns and quiet beaches, so get ready for a relaxing getaway full of good food, plenty of wineries, and scenic hiking trails.
Things to Do
Famous destinations such as Hearst Castle and the Monterey Bay Aquarium are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to California’s Central Coast. While most visitors come to the area for the food, wine, and beaches, they shouldn’t discount the incredible hiking trails, museums, whale watching , and boutique surf shops either. To get a real feel of the seaside region, book a lighthouse tour, like the ones at Piernas Blancas and Point San Luis.
- Beaches : The best reason to travel to the coast: beaches! California’s Central Coast is no exception, with some of the most peaceful and gorgeous stretches of sand in the state.
- Camping: Camping is one of the greatest ways to experience the California Central Coast, especially for road trippers. You can find a great portion of California’s amazing acreage and campgrounds at Los Padres National Forest.
- Wine Tasting : Two of the most recognized wine regions in the area can be found in Santa Barbara and Paso Robles, though there is certainly no shortage of fantastic wineries.

What to Eat and Drink
Whether you're tasting local wine in Santa Barbara or slurping clam chowder in Pismo Beach, the Central Coast of California offers truly exceptional and diverse dining experiences. An abundance of rich, fertile soil and entire generations of specialty farmers, fishermen, and ranchers have gifted this region with wonderful farmer’s markets. Another important staple of coastal California, fruit stands, can also be found throughout the area. Casa de Fruta , between Hollister and Gilroy, has been serving the community for more than 100 years (if you see it, pull over!).
Coastal California is a mecca for fresh fruits, produce, and, of course, seafood, so it’s no surprise that much of the state’s most talented chefs and restaurateurs chose the central coast to congregate. There is a great mixture of warm, budget-friendly local hangouts that have gained a following but remained humble, and pricey award-winning restaurants with vibrant cocktails and lengthy wine lists. Splash Cafe in Pismo Beach is one of the area’s oldest and most popular seafood joints. Restaurants, nightlife, and shops along Cannery Row in Monterey Bay are designed for families, couples, and solo travelers alike. Make sure you hit up one of the bakeries (and pay your respect to Hans Christian Andersen) in Solvang , a historic Danish village in the Santa Ynez Valley.
The greatest part about having so many wineries around is that there is something for everyone, whether you’re a casual wine drinker or an expert. Great wineries are easy to come by in California’s Central Coast, but you’ll find the biggest concentration in Santa Barbara and Paso Robles .
Explore more of California’s food and beverage scene with articles on California’s best food travel experiences , the best ocean view restaurants , and the best restaurants near Monterey .
Where to Stay
Score a quaint hotel along the coast, especially near iconic beaches like Moonstone Beach in sleepy Cambria ; Not to mention, you’ll get first dibs on some spectacularly epic sunsets. For a truly unique experience, check in to the world-famous Madonna Inn in San Luis Obispo. Known for its 110 completely distinctly themed and totally whimsical suites, guests can take their pick from rooms such as the Jungle Rock with a stone waterfall shower to the Austrian Suite with an outdoor spiral staircase. (Tip: Madonna Inn is equally famous for its bakery, so don’t leave without getting your hands on a pastry or slice of pie).
Explore the best places to stay in the area with our guide to charming bed-and-breakfasts along the California Coast , the best hotels in Santa Barbara , and campgrounds around Monterey and Carmel .
Getting There
A car is the best way to travel in California’s Central Coast, but if you don’t want to drive the entire way, grab a seat on the Amtrak Pacific Surfliner for the portion of the road between Ventura and San Luis Obispo with Santa Barabara in between. Tickets will cost under $40, and the high-quality trains are equipped with Wi-Fi and onboard power so you can charge your devices while enjoying the scenery. You can also look into wine tours that will not only take you to the most incredible wine tasting spots along the coast, but also provide you with a guide and professional driver. Take scenic Highway 1 to drive nearest to the ocean (highly recommended) or Highway 101 to stay more inland. Some of the airports nearby include Monterey Regional Airport , San Luis Obispo County Regional Airport , and Santa Barbara Municipal Airport , but you can even take the Amtrak Pacific Surfliner train ($23 per person) to the Ventura train station from LAX .
Money Saving Tips
- Try camping or vacation rentals instead of hotels. It gives you a real feel of the natural environment without breaking the bank with fancy hotel rooms. Plus, you’ll likely get access to amenities such as electricity, Wi-Fi, fresh water, restrooms, showers, laundry room, and maybe even a swimming pool.
- If you do choose to stay at a hotel for all or part of the trip, book accommodations in advance so that you can get the lowest price.
- Don’t miss out on the lovely hiking trails along the California Central Coast. The best part of the scenery is that it's free!
- Santa Barbara County’s affordable Santa Maria Wine Trolley runs from late May through mid-October and costs about $10 per person.
- In San Luis Obispo, the SLO Railroad Museum and the SLO Children’s Museum both offer exhibits and activities for kids 10 and under for about $10 per person. There is free admission at the San Luis Obispo Museum of Art, Mission San Luis Obispo de Tolosa, and the History Center of San Luis Obispo County, as well.
- Start your day with a visit to one of the region’s many visitor centers, such as the Santa Cruz County Visitor Center for a map of free walking tours.
- Admission-free museums include the Santa Cruz Surfing Museum and the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary Exploration Center.
- It's no secret that eating out is a costly component of vacation, and California prices can cause serious sticker shock to first-time visitors. Save money by making a portion of your meals in your hotel or rental home rather than going out to restaurants. That way, you’ll save money while spending more quality time cooking with your travel companions.
- Chances are, you’ll be road-tripping most if not all of the way along the coast, so opt for a car with better gas mileage and fuel-efficiency. An electric car is even better, especially since California is very electric car-friendly with charging stations easier to come by than other states. Use a GPS to steer clear of tolls and make sure to inspect the car before hitting the road to avoid breakdowns and tickets.

Which cellar doors do we visit on the Hunter Valley Wine and Beer Adventure Tour?
We mix and match the 3 we pick from this list, so every tour is slightly different. We aim for a mix of boutique and mid-sized cellar doors and try to support locally owned and operated venues rather than the large corporates that you see in bottleshops. It’s time to shake it up and taste something different!
Some of the cellar doors that we usually visit include the following:
Ernest Hill wines Ridgeview wines Hunter Wine Lab Briar Ridge wines Blueberry Hill wines Travertine wines The Garden Cellars Tintilla Estate

What do guests say about our Hunter Valley Wine Tour s?
Firstly and foremost I want to thank you for your help in organising our wine tour. Your communication has been impeccable and I could not thank you enough for all your information about the wineries, options for us to choose, your recommendations and just the ease of booking everything without an ounce of stress on my part. Our tour went without a hitch. All the girls loved it and it was everything we were all hoping for. I will absolutely be recommending your business to everyone that will listen! Our driver Jeff was fantastic so a massive thank you to him as well. I will definitely be booking again in the future, thank you again!
Christie B :
Just wanted to pass on that we had a fabulous time on our tour over the weekend!
Grant was a blast! He was great value, made everyone feel comfortable, and had a wealth of knowledge. The Hunter Valley wineries we visited were lovely (Ernest Hill was our favourite) and a perfect spot for lunch.
Really appreciate the extra service with the Newcastle drop-off and pick-up. We would absolutely come back again and will highly recommend to friends and family
I’m so happy I booked a wine tour with Tastes of the Hunter for my 30th birthday! Thanks to Suzanne, the whole booking process went smoothly, and it was so easy. Things couldn’t have been better on the day. Our driver, Kevin, was very patient and made sure everyone was always fine.
Everyone on the tour agreed that it was an amazing day. We can’t wait to come back and do another tour with Tastes of the Hunter

Frequently Asked Questions about our Hunter Valley Wine Tours
Shared bus tours such as our Hunter Valley Wine and Beer Adventure Tour ($120pp for Hunter Valley pickup and $135pp for Newcastle pickup) are the most economical option. The Hunter Valley Wine and Beer Adventure Tour includes: – Cellar door and distillery tasting fees. – Pickup and drop-off to your Hunter Valley accommodation (and all transfers between venues). – The tour organisation (you don’t need to book any venues). Private hunter valley wine tours start at $1145 for a 13-seat bus, which is charged per bus rather than per person. So the more people you have, the cheaper a private tour can be.
Yes! Our Hunter Valley Wine and Beer Adventure Tour price includes 3 cellar door tasting fees (at the cellars we have organised for the tour) and 1 spirits tasting.
No! We pride ourselves on our affordable Hunter Valley wine tours being as economical as possible, and there are no sneaky booking fees or transaction fees applied at the checkout. These are already included in the $120pp price for pickup from your Hunter Valley accommodation and the $135pp price for Newcastle pickup.
Lunch is at your own expense on the day. We always visit casual lunch venues where the majority of meals are available for $30-$40 per person. The lunch venues are usually 4 Pines at the Farm Brewhouse, Ironbark Hill Brewhouse, The Valley Brewhouse, Nineteen Bar and Bistro, Huntlee Tavern, or Harrigan’s Irish pub. All offer a range of pub favourites, including gourmet pizzas, gourmet burgers, steaks, chicken schnitzel, salads, etc.
Vegetarian, gluten-free, and vegan options are usually available (however, they cannot be guaranteed). Please let us know when you book if you have any special dietary requirements.
The actual tour component is between 10am and 4.30pm (it can run as late as 5pm if we are delayed at any venues). Pickups occur before 10am, drop-offs occur after 4.30pm/5pm and are based on distance from Pokolbin (i.e., we start with outer areas and work our way towards Pokolbin/Rothbury/Lovedale/Cessnock with these pickups usually occurring between 9.15am and 9.45am). We’ll send you an email by the Wed/Thurs morn before the tour with your exact pickup time, venues and driver details.
Our drivers aim to get as close as possible to your Hunter Valley cottage, as many of the properties in Pokolbin, Rothbury, and Lovedale have long driveways. This is usually possible 99% of the time. However, our drivers always put the safety of other passengers first. Therefore, if it isn’t safe for the bus to reach the exact location of your cottage (e.g., steep/rough terrain, slippery gravel road), we’ll give you a call and negotiate a safe place to pick you up as close as possible to your accommodation. Please note: Pickups from Oaks Cypress Lakes Resort and Crowne Plaza Hunter Valley are usually from the bus zone outside the main reception area, as the roads to the individual villas are quite narrow and unsuitable for minibuses.
Our Hunter Valley tours from Newcastle pickup directly from residential addresses in Newcastle or from outside of your Newcastle hotel (we may require you to walk around the corner if directly outside of your hotel is a “no stopping” zone). You don’t need to arrange additional transport to meet the bus at a designated meeting point. We come to you!
To keep things simple and affordable, we charge one price for pickups from the Hunter Valley ($120pp) from the suburbs we can pick up from (see above). If you request a pickup from an outer Hunter Valley suburb (e.g., Maitland, Rutherford, Singleton, Elderslie, Dalwood, Quorrobolong, Broke, etc.), your pickup time will be earlier (in the range of 8.30am – 9am). Suppose you have a small number of guests (e.g., 2-4 people). In that case, it is advised that you contact us to check if we can fit you into the existing pickup schedule for a particular date. The pickups we are able to do can depend on the other guests already booked in.
The Hunter Valley Wine and Beer Adventure Tour has a set itinerary, so you don’t need to book any venues. Just hop on board, ready for a fun day and a snapshot of the wines, beers, and spirits the Hunter is famous for! If you need a tour where you can choose your own venues (and you have 8 or more guests), then you can check out our private tours of the Hunter Valley .
Craft beer paddles/schooners of craft beer etc., are available for purchase at 4 Pines at the Farm Brewhouse (around $20 for a paddle of 4 beers) and Ironbark Hill brewhouse (around $18 for a paddle of 4 beers/ciders), The Valley Brewhouse, Huntlee Tavern and Harrigan’s Irish pub. These are optional and come with a guide sheet for a self-guided tasting. Please note: The prices above are a guide, and venues can change their prices without notice.
The Hunter Valley Wine and Beer Adventure Tour runs on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays (Saturday only for Newcastle pickups). If you have a group of 8 people or more and would like a private tour (with a similar itinerary or one you can fully customise!) on a weekday (Mon – Thurs), check out our options for private wine tours of the Hunter Valley ).

Had the most incredible experience through this company on Saturday for my birthday. I felt very accommodated for and the day ran so smoothly all thanks to Brendan. I couldn't be more confident in my choice. Our driver made sure we were all having such a great time which was so great to see! Would recommend these guys to absolutely anyone and cannot wait for some of my friends to use these guys for their birthdays next year 🙂
I honestly wish I could give more stars! The team organised my entire hens weekend itinerary for every bar and any issues we had were swiftly dealt with. We didn’t have to worry about a thing. All the girls on the bus have said they won’t ever go through another company for their wine tour.
We hired Wine Party Tours for a 50th birthday. Everyone had a wonderful day. The venues we visited in the hunter valley vineyards were exceptional. Our group was well looked after by our driver Greame. They looked after all the organisation. Lunch was included in the price and was delicious. It was a great day full of lovely wine, food, music and laughter.
Heaps of fun! Corey was a great host, all very professional and great venues. Whole group had a blast!
Best service of its kind in the Hunter . Everyone had a brilliant time, staff were super cool and easy to deal with. But Damien and his crew made sure this birthday was one I won't soon forget!
Went on an office Christmas party tour with these guys. What a bunch of legends! Very well organised, enthusiastic and above all else just heaps of fun. Damien was even good enough to indulge my rockstar fantasies with a bit of karaoke 😉 Highly recommended, will be booking again!
These guys were fantastic the right from the beginning even saving the day helping me organise some things last minute when other bookings fell through. I cannot recommend them enough and suggest you book your next event through them and be guarenteed on incredible time making some great memories.

Wine Tasting tour reviews
Our tour guide was awesome and knowledgeable. The ride was smooth and we appreciated his fun sense of humor. The first two wineries were great—the third felt more like a tasting room. Lunch was at Goldfish Hunter Valley. Enjoyed our winery tour.
BEST COMPANY EVER! My diver was Rocky, he was very communicative with me he called me the day before my service to reassure me. On the day he called me to inform me that he was on his way. Once he arrived at our accommodation in Gosford, he called/texted me letting me know when he had arrived and where was parked, this was the service best experience me and my friends had by all means.
