(Also includes the San Jose Civic Auditorium, Montgomery Theater, Children’s Discovery Museum, the Tech Museum, the Fairmont Hotel and the Center For the Performing Arts)

These downtown destinations are located on West San Carlos Street, between Highway 87 and South Market Street.  VTA’s 23 local and 523 Rapid buses stop bus lines directly serve these destinations.  In fact, there is a dedicated VTA bus stop right at the front entrance to the San Jose Convention Center, and in front of Civic Auditorium.

The Convention Center light rail station is directly in front of San Jose Civic Auditorium and is a short walk from the San Jose Convention Center . It’s served by VTA’s Green Line and Blue Line light rail service.

The San Jose Center For the Performing Arts, on W. San Carlos St. and S. Almaden Boulevard, is exactly 1 short block from the Children’s Discovery Museum light rail station and the Convention Center light rail station .

Montgomery Theater is located at 271 South Market Street. The theater’s entrance is just north of San Carlos Street.

The Tech Museum of Innovation is at 201 S. Market Street (between Park Ave. and West San Carlos Street).  From W. San Carlos and Market, walk a short distance north to the park in the middle of Market (Plaza de Cesar Chavez) bearing to your left.  The entrance to the Tech Museum of Innovation is just after the curve ends, at the left (west) side of Plaza de Cesar Chavez, on your left.

The Fairmont Hotel is at 170 S. Market Street, between Park Ave. and West San Carlos Street. The Hotel’s entrance is on the east side of Caesar Chavez Park. Travel to the Hotel is in opposite direction you would go for the Tech Museum of Innovation.

Children’s Discovery Museum & Guadalupe River Park

The Children’s Discovery Museum , at W. San Carlos Street off Highway 87, is directly served by the Children’s Discovery Museum light rail station and VTA’s 23 local and 523 Rapid bus lines. These are detailed on the map below.

  • Taking light rail to a show at the Center For the Performing Arts?  If you are taking light rail from South San Jose, get off at the Children’s Discovery Museum station and walk one block east to the Center.  If you are taking light rail from northern or eastern San Jose, Milpitas, Santa Clara, Sunnyvale, or Mountain View, get off at the Convention Center light rail station and walk one block west to the Center.
  • Visiting the Convention Center, Civic Auditorium, Children’s Discovery Museum, the Tech Museum of Innovation, or the Center for Performing Arts from San Jose’s Diridon train station?  Go to the far (west) end of the station to the VTA light rail platform at the end of the station tunnel.  There, take any northbound (Old Ironsides) light rail train to the Convention Center station.  Make sure to buy your light rail ticket at the VTA ticket vending machine at the light rail platform first before you board, or you risk being cited by a fare inspector!  If you know you will be returing to Diridon Station for your return bus or rail trip, and your bus or rail ticket does not already include fare credit aboard VTA light rail, buy an 8-hour light rail excursion pass at the VTA ticket machine at the light rail platform.

San Pedro Square is located on N. San Pedro Street between W. San Carlos Street and W. St. John Streets in downtown San Jose.  This is detailed in the map below:

San Pedro Square is considered downtown San Jose’s “Restaurant Row” featuring bars and restaurants like Britannia Arms and the Old Spaghetti Factory to name some of the many businesses in San Pedro Square.  San Pedro Square is home to the  Theater On San Pedro Square and the Hotel De Anza .

San Pedro Square is two short blocks west of VTA’s Santa Clara Street light rail station.  In addition, the 22 , 68 , 500 Rapid , 522 Rapid , and Highway 17 Express bus lines stop nearby on Santa Clara & Almaden Ave. and Santa Clara & Market Street.

NOTE: the Highway 17 Express bus does not serve the San Pedro Square area on weekends or holidays. At San Jose Diridon Station, transfer to an Eastridge-bound 22 bus , a Berryessa-bound 500 Rapid bus , or a Gilroy-bound 68 bus and get off at Santa Clara and Almaden Ave.  Walk across the street from where you got off the bus and you are at San Pedro Square.

Located at 200 E. Santa Clara Street, San Jose City Hall is where decisions affecting the quality of life in San Jose are made.  It is also the main headquarters for city services like building code enforcement and family services. This is detailed in the map below:

Several VTA bus lines stop directly in front of City Hall, at the E. Santa Clara/6th Street bus stops:

  • Highway 17 Express (weekdays only)

On Third and E. Santa Clara Streets (Southwest corner) is the San Jose Downtown Food Hall . The Food Hall currently has more than 20 restaurants of many varieties for takeout or delivery only. Both San Jose City Hall and the Downtown Food Hall are a short, 5-10 minute walk east of the Santa Clara Street light rail station, served by the Green Line and Blue Line trains.

San Jose State University’s main campus boundaries are E. San Fernando Street, S. 4th Street, E. San Salvador Street, and S. 10th Street. This is detailed in the map below:

The Associated Students program at San Jose State University maintains its own guide of public transit service to and from the downtown campus.  Check out their  transit guide for getting to San Jose State University main campus from anywhere in San Jose or Silicon Valley.

Located at 110 S. Market Street (at the Circle of Palms Plaza), the San Jose Museum of Art features modern, contemporary works of art.  The San Jose Museum of Art is on the northeastern end of Cesar Chavez Plaza, 1/2 block north and across the street from the Tech Museum.

Use the San Jose Convention Center transit tips to reach Cesar Chavez Plaza. At Cesar Chavez Plaza, stay on the eastern side of the plaza until you reach the Circle of Palms Plaza – the Museum of Art’s entrance is within the plaza.

Little Italy

The Little Italy neighborhood of San Jose is just off Highway 87, and encompasses North Almaden Boulevard, West Julian Street, and West St. John Street .  Little Italy is one (1) block north of the SAP Center and two (2) blocks north of the San Jose Diridon Station and Transit Center .  This is detailed in the map below:

Little Italy is within one block of VTA buses like the 22, 64A/64B, 68, and 522 Rapid at SAP Center .  It is also a short walk from VTA light rail, the Highway 17 Express Bus, Caltrain, ACE, the Capitol Corridor, and Amtrak’s Coast Starlight trains at San Jose Diridon Station.

From San Jose Diridon Station or SAP Center, walk one (1) block north on Cahill Street to Santa Clara Street.  From there, walk one (1) block east on Santa Clara Street to North Autumn Street.  Make a left on N. Autumn Street – you should be between the arena building and Guadalupe River Park at this point – and walk one block to the start of the Little Italy neighborhood.

Public transit serving San Jose Diridon Station is covered in a separate transit guide .

According to the San Jose Downtown Association, the South First Area (SoFA) serves as downtown San Jose’s arts and entertainment district.  The SoFA district is bounded by E. San Carlos St., E. 3rd Street, E. Reed Street, and S. Market Street.

Amongst the restaurants, clubs, theaters, and art galleries that are part of SoFA are South First Billiards , and the California Theatre .

The SoFA district is home to the biennial ZER01 Art & Technology Festival .  Some clubs in SoFA also serve as venues for the San Jose Jazz Festival held every August.

VTA’s 66 and 68 local bus lines primarily serve the SoFA district on S. 1st Street (northbound) and S. 2nd Street (southbound).  The northern boundary of SoFA is served by the 23 local bus line and 523 Rapid bus line along E. San Carlos Street.  VTA Light Rail’s stop for SoFA is the Convention Center station on San Carlos and Market – only one block west of SoFA. On weekdays until about 7pm, the 568 Rapid bus line from South County also stops nearby.

VTA’s Paseo de San Antonio light rail station serves two major theaters in downtown San Jose – the Camera 12 Cinemas and the San Jose Repertory Theater – also known as the “San Jose Rep.”

Here are additional, specific walking/biking directions for the Camera 12 Cinemas from Paseo de San Antonio station.

In addition to light rail on both sides of the Camera 12 Cinemas, VTA’s 23 , 66 , 68 , and 523 Rapid bus lines stop within a short walk of the Cinemas and the San Jose Rep. On weekdays until about 7pm, the 568 Rapid bus line from South County also stops nearby.

The San Jose Museum of Quilts and Textiles is located at 520 South First Street in San Jose. The San Jose Institute of Contemporary Art is located at 560 South First Street in San Jose.

VTA’s 66 and 68 local bus lines stop within a short walk of both of these museums. On weekdays until about 7pm, the 568 Rapid bus line from South County also stops nearby.

We hope this transit guide helps you beat traffic gridlock and parking headaches as you visit downtown San Jose. Please comment below on any issues you see with this guide, or email our group .

Station Overview

The Stockton ACE station is the first stop on the ACE route heading west. Rich in railroad history, the City of Stockton is host to three historic train depots, and this iconic Southern Pacific Station is the home to ACE and the San Joaquin Regional Rail Commission.

The Robert J. Cabral Station is named after a pioneer who was part of the group who founded the Commission and the ACE service. A tribute to Cabral is placed at the station next to a traditional clock tower – both a beacon and vision for revitalization that is taking place in the downtown neighborhood.

The station is five blocks from the San Joaquin Regional Transit District Downtown Transit Center and ten blocks from the beautiful waterfront area.

This station is one of two in Stockton where travelers board and deboard some of Amtrak’s trains including Amtrak San Joaquins. Amtrak passengers should be careful to review their tickets to ensure they are boarding at the correct station.

2 dead, including child, in crash involving Texas school bus that lacked seatbelts

Two people, including a child, were killed and at least 10 others were injured when a school bus without seatbelts and filled with pre-K students crashed in rural Texas on Friday, authorities said.

They were killed when the bus and a concrete truck collided along State Highway 21 about 50 miles east of Austin, said Texas Department of Public Safety Sgt. Deon Cockrell.

A boy on the bus was killed, and the other victim was in a Dodge Charger that had been following the bus when it was hit by the oncoming concrete truck, he said.

Alejandro Anaya said he was working nearby when the crash happened and he rushed to the bus to help.

"What I saw was all the kids covered in blood, crying, trying to get out," he said.

Four of those injured were taken to hospitals by helicopter and in critical condition, said Kevin Parker, a commander at Austin-Travis County EMS. Six others taken to hospitals by ground ambulance had potentially serious injuries, he said.

Officials said there were additional patients with minor injuries taken to hospitals, but they didn't have an exact count. St. David's South Austin Medical Center said it treated 11 patients, including two in fair condition who remained in the hospital Saturday, and one who was transferred to another facility.

The bus was carrying Tom Green Elementary pre-K students returning from a field trip to the Capital of Texas Zoo in Cedar Creek, about 22 miles southeast of Austin, the Hays Consolidated Independent School District has said.

It said 44 students and 11 adults were on the bus.

The school's principal, Jennifer Hanna, said in a letter Saturday that three staff members and two students remained hospitalized.

Two staff members face "extensive" recovery, and one was expected to be released soon, Hanna said. The hospitalized students "appear to be doing well and remain primarily for observation prior to their anticipated releases in the near future," she said.

Angelica Campos and her 5-year-old daughter, Caliana, walked away from the crash Friday. They appeared physically uninjured.

"We, like, rolled on the bus," Caliana said, her father Hector adding that his daughter closed her eyes to avoid airborne shards of glass.

Angelica Campos said, "I spent the day with all those kids. It’s just heartbreaking."

The school, which is in the Austin suburb of Buda, will be closed on Monday, she said, but counseling would be available on campus through early evening as needed.

District Superintendent Eric Wright addressed the student's death in a letter to family, students and staff Friday: “There are no words that can express my sorrow for the student’s family, the Tom Green Elementary School family, and our greater Hays CISD community.”

The district said in a statement that 2011 model bus involved in the crash was one of 40 in the district's fleet of roughly 200 buses that lacked seatbelts, which is not uncommon for such vehicles.

School buses from model years 2018 and later must have seatbelts under state law. The statement said seatbelts were a likely topic for its purchasing oversight committee, which could weigh accelerating the acquisition of new buses.

"The district hopes that the DPS accident reconstruction investigation will be able to provide more information about whether a seatbelt may have made a difference for the student who died in the accident, but at this time we just don’t know that answer," it said.

Cockrell said state traffic investigators were investigating the cause of the accident, including why the concrete truck appeared to veer into oncoming traffic. The bus rolled over, authorities said.

The Texas Department of Public Safety is leading the investigation.

On Saturday, Hanna said in her letter that the district was still trying to contact the families of nine students in order to update them with the latest news on the crash.

Gov. Greg Abbott said he and his wife, Cecilia Abbott, were saddened to hear about what happened, and he talked with the district’s superintendent “and offered the state’s full support as they help their community through this tragedy.”

U.S. Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, said he’s praying for those who lost loved ones in the crash. “I am shocked and deeply saddened to hear about the school bus accident in Bastrop County today,”  he said on social media platform X .

I usually just browse and buy a couple of knick knacks and have a good time. However, I came in twice in one week and had less-than-pleasant experiences each time. The first time, I was looking around and saw BT21 face masks listed for $2.99 each, which is a steal, because they're usually around $4 or more. When they rang up at checkout, however, they rang up as $4.99 each. I pointed this out to the employee, and she shrugged and said the sign must have been wrong. When I then said I wasn't going to buy the items (since I could buy them for the same price at several other stores and get rewards points, too), the employee gave me a shocked and disdainful look. I came in one week later to return something from my previous order. I was assisted by the same employee. When I said I needed a return, she immediately said she'd need a manager. The manager who came over was incredibly rude right off the bat. She essentially interrogated me, demanding to see my receipt to make sure I was within the 7-day return period and asking me why I was making the return. Her tone of voice and demeanor made me feel like I was committing a crime by even trying to return something that was in my right to return. After she processed my return, the manager took my receipt. I asked for it back for my records, but she said she had to keep it. I have never had a return experience at any other store where the employee has refused to return my original receipt. She told me I could take a picture of the receipt, and I had to ask her to print me an extra copy instead, which she ended up doing. If she could have printed an extra copy the whole time, why give me grief about keeping my original one? Additionally, why give me such grief over a return totaling less than $10? These two experiences completely soured my view of this Miniso location. Definitely beware if you ever have to make a return here.

Good job on having super cute items to attract my kiddo, now we have to come in every time we pass by your store! Well, it attracted me too. Super cute stuff in store. Currently, they have a heavy Sanrio items for sale, displayed in the front. Late last year it was Marvel. They have the usuals Hello Kitty and My Melody characters but kind bummed they only had 1 Keroppi item. Lots of personal, home and kitchen items - all cute of course. It's so hard to resist getting all the adorable items - honestly we don't need anything here but obliged my kid on one tiny item (Maleficent pin) on our recent trip. They also have a solid snack and drink selections.

Miniso is usually a store I look forward to going to since it's so far from me and now it's open in Valleyfair! My thoughts while walking around: - pretty busy right now, brand new store - plays tiktok/radio music - cute things everywhere - pretty affordable A good store to visit for random items to decorate your house!

I went here with my friends on Black Friday to buy some gifts and everything was fine at first, but when I proceeded to checkout, the cashier told me to grab a "free" gift. I grabbed a set of 4 perfumes from that box and proceeded to check out not knowing that the set of perfumes cost money. Since there was a buy 2 get 20% off deal, I had a $13 discount but she made me grab something from that box and that was the perfume which cost $7. My discount ended up being $6 only. Then I found out so I went to return the perfume but she told me that I could not return them. She said that I could return it but she wouldn't give back the money. And she had a super rude tone too. To summarize, she tricked me into getting the free gift so that my discount would be cheaper. Not only that the employee was super rude too. Don't fall for the "free" gifts.

I bought a bunch items as gifts at this store and they threw in gift, after shopping around the mall I found better alternatives and decided to return some of the items. The cashier immediately said he couldn't process the return, and the manager had to do it. The manager arrived huffing and puffing looked at the receipt and said that the sale was final due to one of the items (the gift) making the full transaction final. The manager would not budge about the return saying that the system would allow it, he started threatening me by saying he call mall security to escort me out of the store. I called my husband to assist in the discussion, where HE explained again that the system would not allow a return due to the final sale item being part of the transaction, when my husband mentioned that this practice is slamming and would reach out to headquarters, all of the sudden, the return was possible BUT AGAIN THEY CAN NOT GIVE ME BACK MY ORIGINAL RECEIPT. I finally got the items returned, The staff is naive, the manager was appallingly rude, the staff were laughing at his disrespectful comments to me, I will never shop at this store or any of branch of this company. They literally ruined my day by their behavior. I will report this incident to their headquarters and the BBB.

My visit to Miniso was nothing short of a nightmare. The employees were shockingly rude, turning a simple shopping trip into a stressfulexperience. Their lack of basic courtesy and customer service skills left me utterly appalled. A one-star rating is almost too generous for the level of disappointment I endured. .

This store is bigger than the other location I been to. They have a lot of cute Disney items. Some of the items here are pricey. The store was really packed and the aisles are small. They have very cute items here.

Came in on Saturday afternoon today. Setup is similar to the other mini so and selection is similar so two stars for the store selection but zero for the service. The problem was the attitude of the male cashier. When I went to pay with the male cashier he said he didn't have exact change. He took my $20 dollar bill then rang up the total of $13.08. Register rang the change as $6.92 and he asked me if I had any change. After searching through my pockets I found 2 cents. Cashier then proceeded to just give me $6 saying he couldn't be short. I was thinking really? I find it hard to believe this is store policy that they would rather shortchange the customer by 92 cents rather than be short 6 cents. Cashier was unapologetic and said he said exact change only. Very bad attitude kind of wondering if they are running this on everyone who pays in cash. Would not recommend.

It was our first time here, and it was a Saturday. We were looking for little gifts to bring back home for our kids. It seemed they were short staff, we only seen the 2 cashiers at the registers and no one on the floor. Very kawaii things. A lot of plushy. We were able to get a few things. As we approached to wait in line to check out. Their was a small altercation with the cashier and a customer about the prices. I get it their Are a lot of things that get misplaced. But the way the employee handled the situation was not what I would expect it. A bit of a attitude, no intentions to better the situation, just kept saying whatever the price rings up from the barcode scanned. Their was a bunch of the same plushy under a barcode that indicated a different price. I felt bad for that customer because non of the cashiers wouldn't help give a better understanding. When I got checked out, no hello or any type of customer service. Just given the total.

New York City awarded $77M in grants to electrify school buses, build first truck charging depot

New York City is turning up the power in its plan to bring more electric vehicles in the future.

The city is receiving $77 million in grants to expand the number of electric school buses and trucks on its streets, Mayor Eric Adams announced on Monday.

The Environmental Protection Agency's Clean School Bus Grant Program is providing $61 million and will add 180 new electric school buses to the city's fleet and quadruple the number of electric school buses.

An additional $15 million grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation's Charging and Fueling Infrastructure Grant Program will help build a groundbreaking, freight-focused electric truck and vehicle charging depot at the Hunts Point Food Distribution Center,

"I have always said that I am a five-borough mayor, and with this funding, we are building an even brighter future for the Bronx and our entire city," said Adams. "These grants will help us put more electric school buses on our streets, turn one of the world's largest food distribution centers into one of the world's greenest facilities, deliver cleaner air for our children, and help undo a long history of environmental racism in the South Bronx. This is what it looks like when leaders from City Hall to the halls of Congress work together to 'Get Stuff Done' for New York City."

Other efforts to increase electric vehicles in the city began in 2021 when former Mayor Bill de Blasio launched a $75 million program . That investment included 300 electric vehicles to replace fossil fuel-powered models, 275 fast vehicle chargers, 20 portable vehicle chargers, 11 new solar charging carports, three electric buses to replace diesel models and 78 electric ambulances.

"Sustainability touches every part of our school system, from the lessons being taught in our classes, to the waste reduction programs in our cafeterias, to solar energy supporting our schools, and now, to electric buses bringing our kids to and from school each day," added New York City Schools Chancellor David C. Banks. "It is essential that we make every effort to do right by our kids, and these generous awards from the federal government will help our city and nation transition to a more sustainable future for our young people to inherit."

The city also received $1.5 million from the Joint Office of Energy and Transportation's Ride and Drive Electric Program to support planning and coordination efforts.
